Decomposition of Phragmites australis (Cav. Trin ex Steudel) rhizome was studied at Lake Fertő/Neusiedler See using the litter bag technique. Samples were analysed for rhizome dry mass, fibre (cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin) and nutrient content (C, N, P and S), litter-associated fungal biomass, potential microbial respiration (electron transport activity: ETS) and cellulolitic bacteria. The mass loss of decomposing rhizome was rapid in the initial period and only 13.6% of the dry mass remained at the end of the experiment during 953 days. Substantial quantities of C, N, S and P were lost during 99 days; only 18% C, 19% N, 14% S and 6.4% of the P remained after 953 days. Hemicellulose degraded more rapidly than the other fibres whilst the lignin had the slowest rate of decomposition. Bacteria were found to be the primary colonizers of plant detritus, which was followed by fungal growth. An antagonistic relationship was observed between bacteria and fungi. Fungal biomass as determined by ergosterol concentrations ranged between 4.1 and 420 μg g−1 and peaked every year in September. The number of cellulolitic bacteria varied from 0 to 22 MPN g−1 with higher values in summer. The ETS-activity ranged between 0.1 and 1.6 mg O2 g−1 h−1. The changes in ETS-activity varied almost in parallel with the in situ temperature of the lake water.  相似文献

Plants of miscanthus were grown in a Cd-free solution up to 1 month before heading and then were exposed to 0, 0.75, 1.5, 2.25 and 3 mg l−1 cadmium for 36 days. All cadmium levels were toxic to miscanthus. Growth response was not dose-dependent and two toxicity thresholds were identified: one between 0 and 0.75 mg l−1 Cd, the other between 2.25 and 3 mg l−1 Cd. The former caused a biomass decrease by about 50%, whereas the latter completely inhibited growth and disrupted the mechanisms that restricted Cd translocation to the shoot. Growth of the aerial part was affected by cadmium more than that of the hypogeal one. Cadmium did not change the N concentration of different plant parts, but markedly reduced the N uptake of the plant, the N net uptake rate (NUR) and the N net translocation rate (NTR) from the rhizome to the aerial part. These two indexes equalled zero when plants ceased to grow. Otherwise, the Cd-NUR increased with Cd supply and the Cd-NTR from rhizome to aerial part showed the highest increment when plants did not grow at all. This suggests different uptake pathways for the two elements, active for nitrogen and passive for cadmium. The Cd concentration and the Cd content markedly increased with all Cd levels, following the order roots  rhizome > culms > leaves. The Cd concentration and the Cd content of aerial organs increased with Cd supply, but increments were highest between 2.25 and 3 mg l−1 Cd. The highest Cd concentrations were recorded in plants grown with 3 mg l−1 Cd and were 41 and 122 mg kg−1, respectively, for the aerial and the hypogeal plant parts. The hypogeal plant part retained most of the cadmium taken up from solution, accounting for approximately 87% of total plant cadmium with the three lower Cd levels, and for 73% with the highest one. The maximum Cd content of the entire plant was achieved with the two higher Cd levels and was approximately 4.7 mg, while the Cd content of the aerial part was highest with 3 mg l−1 Cd (1.2 mg Cd per plant) and that of the hypogeal one with 2.25 mg l−1 Cd (4 mg Cd per plant). The highest aerial content achieved in this experiment was 10-fold that obtained in a previous research when small-sized plants were exposed to the same Cd level.  相似文献

The coastal shrub Limoniastrum monopetalum is capable of growth in soil containing extremely high concentrations of heavy metals. A greenhouse experiment was conducted in order to investigate the effects of a range of Zn concentrations (0–130 mmol l−1) on growth and photosynthetic performance, by measuring relative growth rate, total leaf area, plant height, gas exchange, chlorophyll fluorescence parameters and photosynthetic pigment concentrations. We also determined the total zinc, nitrogen, phosphorus, sulphur, calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, iron and copper concentrations in the plant tissues. The study species demonstrated hypertolerance to Zn stress, since survival was recorded with leaf concentrations of up to 1700 mg Zn kg−1 dry mass when treated with 130 mmol Zn l−1. L. monopetalum exhibited little overall effects on photosynthetic function at Zn levels of up to 90 mmol l−1. At greater external Zn concentration, plant growth was negatively affected, due in all probability to the recorded decline in net photosynthetic rate, which may be linked to the adverse effect of the metal on photosynthetic electron transport. Growth parameters were virtually unaffected by leaf tissue concentrations as high as 1400 mg Zn kg−1 dry mass thus indicating that this species could play an important role in the phytoremediation of Zn-polluted areas.  相似文献

Chara hispida forms dense beds (0.78–0.95 kg DW m−2) in Colgada Lake. The ability of Chara meadows to act as a nitrogen source or sink was evaluated by the following methods: (1) investigating Chara growth, (2) nitrogen incorporation and decomposition laboratory experiments and (3) relating experimental results to field conditions. Sediment oospores were germinated in large aquaria and observed growth rates were 0.001 m day−1 (shoot length) and 0.0002 g day−1 (dry weight). Nitrogen uptake rates were determined by addition of K15NO3 during two different periods of Chara growth and the rates were 1.21 and 3.86 μM g DW−1 h−1 when charophytes were 166 days old (not sexually mature) and 323 days old (sexually mature), respectively. After the uptake experiments, the same charophytes were allowed to decompose within two types of litter bags (3 mm-pore litter bags and entire, non-porous plastic litter bags). Decomposition rates of Ch. hispida were 0.016 and 0.009 day−1 in perforated and non-perforated bags, respectively, and fit a negative exponential model. The nitrogen release rate, calculated as the disappearance of N content from Chara tissues, was 0.012 day−1 and there were no statistically significant differences between the values from the two different bag types. The dissolved organic nitrogen concentrations in aquarium and non-perforated litter bags waters increased linearly with time due to the leaching of soluble compounds from Chara. The rate of N loss from Chara tissues, total nitrogen and dissolved organic nitrogen release rates and the decrease in initial dry weight rate were all lower than the daily rate of Chara N uptake. By extrapolating laboratory data to field situations, we determined that approximately 38% of the N taken up by charophytes in Colgada Lake during the growth period is retained. Given the high charophyte biomass in the lake, its ability to incorporate nitrogen, its low decomposition rate and its ability to over-winter, we conclude that Chara beds could be acting as nitrogen sinks in this ecosystem.  相似文献

The hybrid bioreactor landfill was promising in solid waste management. In the work, the nitrogen removal and nitrogen transformation in hybrid bioreactor landfill with sequencing of facultative anaerobic and aerobic conditions was explored. The result showed that the combination of facultative anaerobic and aerobic conditions in the hybrid bioreactor landfill was indeed effective in eliminating ammonia both from the leachate and the refuse thoroughly. About 72% of nitrogen was reduced from the landfilled fresh refuse through the operation of 357 days. At the end of the experiment, the concentrations of COD, ammonia, nitrate and TN in the leachate decreased to 399.2 mg l?1, 20.6 mg N l?1, 3.7 mg N l?1 and 25.3 mg N l?1, respectively.  相似文献

This study examined the mass loss, fungal biomass, and nutrient dynamics of standing Phragmites australis leaf blades during senescence and early decay in littoral reed stands of two hardwater lakes. Green living leaves were tagged at defined canopy heights in early autumn (late August or early September) and periodically collected until all leaf blades had fallen off the parent shoot. Samples were analysed for leaf dry mass remaining, fungal biomass associated with leaves (ergosterol concentrations), and nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations. Considerable mass loss of leaves occurred in the standing position (up to 28%). Nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations of leaves decreased substantially with time (by 39–77%), indicating that a major portion of these nutrients was translocated to the rhizome during senescence. Fungal biomass associated with leaves increased during the study period, reaching an estimated maximum of about 40 mg g−1 of leaf dry mass. Fungal biomass was negatively correlated with leaf N and P concentrations. The observed patterns of leaf mass loss, nutrient dynamics, and fungal biomass were consistent with the successive senescence and death of leaves from the shoot base to its tip. The results of this study point to a notable mass loss of P. australis leaf blades in the standing position, which appears to be mediated by both plant and microbial processes. Nutrient dynamics, in contrast, appear to be largely governed by plant processes.  相似文献

Sediment may play an important role during the submerged macrophyte decline in the eutrophication progress. In order to investigate the response in root morphology and nutrient contents of submerged macrophytes Myriophyllum spicatum to sediment, five sediment types were treated and used (five types of sediment were used in the experiment: treatment 1 was nature sediment + sand, a 50:50 (v/v) mixture, treatment 2 was the studied sediment only, treatment 3 was sediment + nitrogen (N, NH4Cl 400 mg kg?1), treatment 4 was sediment + phosphorus (P, NaH2PO4 300 mg kg?1); treatment 5 was sediment + phosphorus (P, NaH2PO4 600 mg kg?1)). The results show that the root N content was only significantly affected by adding N in sediments and P was elevated by adding N and P. The root mass and its percentage increased at first, the peak values were reached at 35 d, and then decreased. The root growth was restrained by adding sand and N in sediments, root senescence process was delayed at the later experimental time by adding P in sediments. The increase of root volume showed a similar trend to that of root growth, except for plant with P addition where root volume remained high after 35 d. The root volume decreased while the main root number increased significantly by adding sand in sediments. The mean root length and main root diameter were reduced by adding P in sediments. The compatible sediment nutrient condition is necessary to restore submerged macrophytes in a degraded shallow lake ecosystem, and the effect of sediment on the root morphology and nutrient content is one of the important aspects restricting the restoration of submerged macrophytes.  相似文献

Metal hyperaccumulation is of great interest in recent years because of its potential application for phytoremediation of heavy metal contaminated soils. In this study, a field survey and a hydroponic experiment were conducted to study the accumulation characteristics of lead (Pb), zinc (Zn) and cadmium (Cd) in Arabis paniculata Franch., which was found in Yunnan Province, China. The field survey showed that the wild population of A. paniculata was hyper-tolerant to extremely high concentrations of Pb, Zn and Cd, and could accumulate in shoots an average level of 2300 mg kg?1 dry weight (DW) Pb, 20,800 mg kg?1 Zn and 434 mg kg?1 Cd, with their translocation factors (TFs) all above one. Under the hydroponic culture, stimulatory effects of Pb, Zn and Cd on shoot dry biomass were noted from 24 to 193 μM Pb, 9 to 178 μM Cd and all Zn supply levels in nutrient solution, while the effects were not obvious in the roots. Chlorophyll concentrations in Pb, Zn and Cd treatments showed an inverted U-shaped pattern, consistent with the change of plant biomass. Pb, Zn and Cd concentrations in the shoots and roots increased sharply with increasing Pb, Zn and Cd supply levels. They reached > 1000 mg kg?1 Pb, 10,000 mg kg?1 Zn and 100 mg kg?1 Cd DW in the 24 μM Pb, 1223 μM Zn and 9 μM Cd treatment, respectively, in which the plants grew healthy and did not show any symptoms of phytotoxicity. The TFs of Zn were basically higher than one and the amount of Zn taken by shoots ranged from 78.7 to 90.4% of the total Zn. However, the TFs of Pb and Cd were well below one, and 55.0–67.5% of total Pb and 57.8–83.5% of total Cd was accumulated in the shoots. These results indicate that A. paniculata has a strong ability to tolerate and hyperaccumulate Pb, Zn and Cd. Meanwhile, suitable levels of Pb, Zn and Cd could stimulate the biomass production and chlorophyll concentrations of A. paniculata. Thus, it provides a new plant material for understanding the mechanisms of stimulatory effect and co-hyperaccumulation of multiple heavy metals.  相似文献

Nitrogen transformations were studied in flooded and non-flooded vertical flow columns with and without a rice plant. Influent (average concentration: NH4+-N: 40 mg L?1; NO3?-N: 0.15 mg L?1; and NO2?-N: 4.0 mg L?1) was supplied at 1.25 cm d?1 during stage 1 (20 May–5 August) and at 2.50 cm d?1 at stage 2 (6 August–26 October), which resulted in an average nitrogen loading of 156 g m?2 during the entire experimental period. Total nitrogen (T-N) removal efficiencies exceeded 90% in vertical flow systems with rice plants. Nitrogen assimilated by the rice plants in the flooded column accounted for 60% of the total input nitrogen, while that in the non-flooded column accounted for 36% of the total input. The remaining nitrogen appeared to be removed through biogeochemical pathways. Although some nitrogen flowed out, most input nitrogen was also removed even in the flooded and non-flooded unplanted columns.A high-resolution vertical distribution investigation showed the changes of nitrogen forms in soil water. In the flooded condition, there were high ammonium and high nitrite concentrations in the upper layers. The concentrations of ammonium and nitrite simultaneously decreased with depth increasing, suggesting that anaerobic ammonia oxidation (anammox) may occur in these anaerobic conditions. In contrast, the distributions of nitrogen in the non-flooded columns with elevated water level suggested that nitrification–denitrification route was the major removal mechanism, whether or not rice plants were present.  相似文献

Mine tailings are an environmental problem in Southern Spain because wind and water erosion of bare surfaces results in the dispersal of toxic metals over nearby urban or agricultural areas. Revegetation with tolerant native species may reduce this risk. We grew two grasses, Lygeum spartum and Piptatherum miliaceum, and the crop species Cicer arietinum (chickpea) under controlled conditions in pots containing a mine tailings mixed into non-polluted soil to give treatments of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% mine tailings. We tested a neutral (pH 7.4) mine tailings which contained high concentrations of Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn. Water-extractable metal concentrations increased in proportion to the amount of tailings added. The biomass of the two grasses decreased in proportion to the rate of neutral mine-tailing addition, while the biomass of C. arietinum only decreased in relation to the control treatment. Neutron radiography revealed that root development of C. arietinum was perturbed in soil amended with the neutral tailings compared to those of the control treatment, despite a lack of toxicity symptoms in the shoots. In all treatments and for all metals, the plants accumulated higher concentrations in the roots than in shoots. The highest concentrations occurred in the roots of P. miliaceum (2500 mg kg?1 Pb, 146 mg kg?1 Cd, 185 mg kg?1 Cu, 2700 mg kg?1 Zn). C. arietinum seeds had normal concentrations of Zn (70–90 mg kg?1) and Cu (6–9 mg kg?1). However, the Cd concentration in this species was ~1 mg kg?1 in the seeds and 14.5 mg kg?1 in shoots. Consumption of these plant species by cattle and wild fauna may present a risk of toxic metals entering the food chain.  相似文献

This work illustrates the feasibility of vermitechnology to stabilize sludge from an agro-industry. To achieve the goal, industrial sludge (IS) was mixed with three different bulky agents, i.e. cow dung (CD), biogas plant slurry (BGS) and wheat straw (WS), in different ratios to produce nine different feed mixtures for earthworm Eisenia fetida. Vermicomposting bedding material was analyzed for its different physic-chemical parameters after 15 weeks of experimentations. In all waste mixtures, a decrease in pH, organic C and C:N ratio, but increase in total N, available P, exchangeable K, exchangeable Ca and trace elements (Mg, Fe and Zn) was recorded. IS (40%) + CD (60%) and IS (40%) + BGS (60%) vermibeds showed the highest mineralization rate and earthworm growth patterns during vermicomposting process. Vermicompost contains (dry weight basis) a considerable range of plant available forms of P (17.5–28.9 g kg?1), K (13.8–21.4 g kg?1), Ca (41.1–63.4 g kg?1), Mg (262.4–348.3 mg kg?1), Fe (559.8–513.0 mg kg?1) and Zn (363.1–253.6 mg kg?1). Earthworm growth parameters, i.e. biomass gain, total cocoon production, individual growth rate (mg wt. worm?1 day?1), natality rate, total fecundity were optimum in bedding containing 20–40% industrial sludge. C:N ratio of worm-processed material was within the agronomic acceptable or favorable limit (<15–20). The results clearly suggested that vermitechnology can be a potential technology to convert industrial sludges into vermifertilizer for sustainable land restoration practices.  相似文献

Rooted submerged macrophytes can absorb significant amounts of nutrients from both sediment and water. We investigated root morphology of Vallisneria natans in mesocosm plastic bins, in response to three types of sediment (sandy loam, clay, and a 50:50 (v/v) mixture of the two sediments) and two levels of water-column nutrient (well water and nutrient medium). Compared to the plants grown in the clay or mixed sediments, root diameter decreased (0.39–0.41 versus 0.36–0.37 mm) but total root length per plant increased (0.87–1.27 versus 1.14–1.62 m) when grown in sandy loam. Increase of nutrient availability in water column led to decreased specific root length (306–339 versus 258–281 m g−1). However, both sediment type and water-column nutrient had no impacts on root number (ranged from 19 to 24 number of roots per plant). Root weight ratio, root:leaf mass ratio and root:leaf length ratio generally decreased with enhanced nutrient availability in sediment or water. Plant growth was affected by sediment type alone (P < 0.05), rather than water-column nutrient (P > 0.05). However, plant N and P contents were significantly impacted by both sediment type (P  0.001) and water-column nutrient (P < 0.05). Increase of nutrient availability in sediment or water led to increased plant N (ranged from 2.47 to 4.77 mg g−1) and P concentrations (ranged from 42.8 to 62.0 mg g−1). These results indicate that considerable variation in root morphology of V. natans exists in response to the fertility of the sediment it is rooted in.  相似文献

Restoration of the Chesapeake Bay poses significant challenges because of increasing population pressure, conversion of farmland to urban/suburban development, and the expense of infrastructure needed to achieve significant and sustained nutrient reductions from agricultural and urban sources. One radical approach for removing non-point source nutrients before they reach the bay is to deploy large-scale algal turf scrubbers along its tributaries. The objective of this study was to determine rates of nutrient removal and algal fatty acid production using small ATS units located along three Chesapeake Bay rivers. Small-scale ATS units (each containing 1 m2 growing area) were operated for 5–10 months from April 2007 to April 2008 on three western shore tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland: the Bush River, the Patapsco River and the Patuxent River. Total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) removal rates at the Patuxent site fluctuated considerably but averaged 250 mg TN, 45 mg TP m?2 day?1 from May to October 2007, then decreased to 16 mg TN, 3 mg TP m?2 day?1 from December 2007 to February 2008. Nutrient removal rates at the Bush river site also fluctuated but averaged only 85 mg TN, 10 mg TP m?2 day?1 from May to June 2007, before decreasing to <10 mg TN, <1 mg TP m?2 day?1 from July to September 2007. The Patapsco River unit began operation in August 2007, reached its maximum removal values of 150 mg TN, 18 mg TP m?2 day?1 from mid-October to late-November 2007, then decreased to values of 45 mg TN, 4 mg TP m?2 day?1 from November 15, 2007 to mid-April 2008. In the best case (Patuxent site from May to October 2007), daily removal rates of 250 mg N and 45 mg P m?2 are equivalent to removal rates of 380 kg N and 70 kg P ha?1 over a 150-day season in Maryland. Fatty acid (FA) content of the harvested material was consistently low (0.3–0.6% of dry weight) and varied little between sites. Mean algal FA production rates (23–54 mg FA m?2 day?1) are equivalent to rates of 34–81 kg FA ha?1 year?1 based on a 150-day operational season in Maryland.  相似文献

The relationship between light intensity, nitrogen availability and pigmentation was investigated in mixotrophic and heterotrophic cultures of the unicellular red alga Galdieria sulphuraria 074G, a potential host for production of the blue pigment, phycocyanin (PC). During the exponential growth phase of batch cultures, G. sulphuraria 074G contained 2–4 mg phycocyanin per g dry weight. In carbon-limited and nitrogen-sufficient batch cultures grown in darkness, this value increased to 8–12 mg g−1 dry weight during the stationary phase, whereas the phycocyanin content in nitrogen-deficient cells decreased to values below 1 mg g−1 dry weight during stationary phase. Light intensities between 0 and 100 μmol photons m−2 s−1 had no influence on phycocyanin accumulation in mixotrophic cultures grown on glucose or fructose, while light stimulated phycocyanin synthesis in cultures grown on glycerol, in which the phycocyanin content in stationary phase was increased from 10 mg g−1 dry weight in darkness to 20 mg g−1 dry weight at a light intensity of 80 μmol photons m−2 s−1. At higher light intensities, less phycocyanin accumulated than at lower intensities, irrespective of the carbon substrate used. In carbon-limited continuous flow cultures grown on glucose or glycerol at a dilution rate of 0.63 day−1, corresponding to 50% of the maximum specific growth rate, the highest steady-state phycocyanin content of 15–28 mg g−1 dry weight was found at 65 μmol photons m−2 s−1. In contrast to the apparent glucose repression of light-induced PC synthesis observed in batch cultures, no glucose repression of the light stimulation was observed in continuous flow cultures because the glucose concentration in the culture supernatant always remained at limiting levels. Despite the fact that G. sulphuraria 074G contains less phycocyanin than some other microalgae and cyanobacteria, the ability of G. sulphuraria 074G to grow and synthesize phycocyanin in heterotrophic or mixotrophic cultures makes it an interesting alternative to the cyanobacterium, Spirulina platensis presently used for synthesis of phycocyanin.  相似文献

The feasibility of the anaerobic ammonium oxidation (Anammox) process to treat wastewaters containing antibiotics was studied in this work. Concentrations ranging from 100 to 1000 mg L?1 for tetracycline hydrochloride and from 250 to 1000 mg L?1 for chloramphenicol were tested in batch assays. A strong inhibitory effect was observed for both antibiotics.A concentration of 20 mg L?1 of chloramphenicol was continuously added to an Anammox Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR) system, causing a decrease of the nitrogen removal efficiency of 25%. The Specific Anammox Activity (SAA) of the biomass also decreased from 0.25 to 0.05 g N (g VSS d)?1. Similar effects were observed when 50 mg L?1 of tetracycline hydrochloride were continuously fed. Both antibiotics did not cause any changes in the physical properties of the biomass. A previous degradation step could be necessary in order to treat wastewaters containing inhibitory concentrations of antibiotics by the Anammox process.  相似文献

In order to prevent the toxic effect caused by high strength ammonium in a swine wastewater treatment system, a patented upflow multi-layer bioreactor (UMBR) as a pre-anoxic tank was applied to a pilot-scale plant with a treatment capacity of 5 m3/d. This plant was operated for 4 months at a high IR ratio in the range of 10–17, in order to alleviate the toxic effects caused by high strength ammonium. A computational fluid dynamic (CFD) analysis was also conducted to design and configure the rotating distributors in the UMBR. At an IR ratio of about 17, the influent NH4+-N (1169 mg N/L) was diluted to less than 80 mg N/L at the head of the UMBR, and then was completely nitrified (about 98.3%) in the aeration tank, without any inhibition caused by high strength ammonium. The nitrate at a concentration of about 58.2 mg N/L recycled from the aeration tank was completely denitrified in UMBR #1, which was operated at an actual hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 3.5 h.  相似文献

Propolis is a gummy material made by honeybees for protecting their hives from bacteria and fungi. The main objective of this study is to determine the chemical compositions and concentrations of organic compounds in the extractable organic matter (EOM) of propolis samples collected from four different regions in Yemen. The propolis samples were extracted with a mixture of dichloromethane and methanol and analyzed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). The results showed that the total extract yields ranged from 34% to 67% (mean = 55.5 ± 12.4%). The major compounds were triterpenoids (254 ± 188 mg g−1, mainly α-, β-amyryl and dammaradienyl acetates), n-alkenes (145 ± 89 mg g−1), n-alkanes (65 ± 29 mg g−1), n-alkanoic acids (40 ± 26 mg g−1), long chain wax esters (38 ± 25 mg g−1), n-alkanols (8 ± 3 mg g−1) and methyl n-alkanoates (6 ± 4 mg g−1). The variation in the propolis chemical compositions is apparently related to the different plant sources. The compounds of these propolis samples indicate that they are potential sources of natural bio-active compounds for biological and pharmacological applications.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to evaluate and compare broadleaved cattail (Typha latifolia L.) biomass production and the nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) content in phytomass in three treatment wetland systems and to propose suitable areas for treatment wetlands in Estonia for raw material production. The biomass samples (roots/rhizomes, shoots with leaves and spadixes) and litter were collected from 1 m × 1 m plots—15 plots in the Tänassilma semi-natural wetland, 15 plots in the Põltsamaa free water surface (FWS) constructed wetland (CW), and 10 plots in the Häädemeeste FWS CW. The average aboveground biomass of T. latifolia varied from 0.37 to 1.76 kg DW m?2 in autumn and from 0.33 to 1.38 kg DW m?2 in winter. The greatest average nitrogen (22,950 mg N kg?1) concentration was found in spadixes in 2002, and the phosphorus (6500 mg P kg?1) concentration was measured in roots–rhizomes in 2003. Average standing stock of nitrogen and phosphorus was higher in aboveground than belowground phytomass. In FWS CWs with high hydraulic and nutrient loadings, however, the harvesting of aboveground biomass is not an effective means for the removal of nutrients. Cattail biomass is a valuable insulation material, whereas the fibre from spadixes mixed with clay gives elasticity to clay plasters. According to our estimates, about 5412 km2 could be used for Typha cultivation in Estonia.  相似文献

While an aeration tank in an activated sludge process is often operated with high dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration to ensure organic degradation and nitrification, it may be operated at low DO concentration to reduce energy consumption and achieve desired denitrification. The ASM1 (Activated Sludge Model No. 1) can be used to describe the activated sludge process if the nitrification and denitrification occur either during different phases or in different tanks, but it may encounter problems in simulating the denitrification phenomenon caused by low DO concentration in the aeration tank. In the present work, we developed a model integrating the ASM1 kinetics and a biofloc model to account for the actual anoxic and aerobic rates. Oxygen was assumed the only substrate of both bio-kinetically and flux limiting in the flocs and its dispersion coefficient was estimated as 1.2 × 10−4 m2 day−1 by using a set of measured effluent qualities of a full-scale wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) operating at low DO concentration (∼0.80 mg L−1) for 60 days. Simulation studies predicted the optimal DO level of 0.36 mg L−1 which would lead to minimum total nitrogen of 15.7 mg N L−1 and also showed the insignificance of the addition of carbon source for nitrogen removal for the operation under study. The developed model may be helpful for process engineers to predict the plant behaviors under various configurations or operating strategies.  相似文献

Protocorm cultures of Dendrobium candidum were established in balloon type bubble bioreactors using Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium with 0.5 mg l−1 α-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA), 2.5% (w/v) sucrose, 5:25 mM NH4:NO3 and 1% (v/v) banana homogenate for the production of biomass and bioactive compounds. In 3 l bioreactor containing 2 l medium, a maximum protocorm biomass (21.0 g l−1 dry biomass) and also optimum quantities of total polysaccharides (389.3 mg g−1 DW), coumarins (18.0 mg g−1 DW), polyphenolics (11.9 mg g−1 DW), and flavonoids (4.5 mg g−1 DW) were achieved after 7 weeks of culture. Based on these studies, 5 and 10 l bioreactor cultures were established to harvest 80 g and 160 g dry biomass. In 10 l bioreactors, the protocorms grown were accumulated with optimal levels of polysaccharides (424.1 mg g−1 DW), coumarins (15.8 mg g−1 DW), polyphenols (9.03 mg g−1 DW) and flavonoids (4.7 mg g−1 DW). The bioreactor technology developed here will be useful for the production of important bioactive compounds from D. candidum.  相似文献
