Phytochemical study of Fallopia dentatoalata gave seventeen compounds, two sterols (8 and 10), three anthraquinones (5, 16 and 17), one chromone (13), two stilbenes (3 and 4), two amides (11 and 12), six flavonoids (1, 2, 6, 7, 14 and 15) and one fatty acid (9). Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods and in comparison with the reported data. Compound 11 was obtained from genus Fallopia for the first time, and all of the compounds were firstly isolated from F. dentatoalata. The chemotaxonomic significance of these compounds was also discussed, which demonstrated the relationships between F. dentatoalata and some other species of genus Fallopia.  相似文献

The generic nameFallopia Adans. 1763 is analysed from the point of view of its taxonomic identily and typified byPolygonum scandens L. 1753. By this typification it is taxonomically identical withBilderdykia Dum. 1827 and must replace that name. The genusFallopia Adans. is defined by comparison with related genera; it includes 9 species in two sections, and 1 hybrid; new nomenclatural combinations are proposed for these taxa.  相似文献

We estimated the outcrossing rate in a population of 14 individuals of Dolichandra cynanchoides (Bignoniaceae), a species with late-acting self-incompatibility (LSI), at a site in Chaco woodland in Santa Fe province, Argentina. A subsample of five arbitrarily chosen loci from a total of 16 allozyme loci gave mating system parameters of tm=0.881 (SD 0.039) and ts=0.749 (SD 0.048), thus indicating that although predominantly outcrossing, D. cynanchoides has a mixed mating system. We draw attention to the fact that mixed mating in species with LSI is a very likely scenario, given that previous studies with diverse LSI taxa have shown that mixed cross-self pollen loads on the stigma, which is probably a common occurrence with natural pollinators, result in fruits with a proportion of selfed seeds.  相似文献

By means of hand pollination experiments and fluorescence microscopythe breeding systems and pollen tube growth were studied inDolichandra cynanchoides and Tabebuia nodosa, two bignoniaceousspecies of the Chaco woodland of NE Argentina. Both speciesabscised all selfed pistils within 4–8 d although selfpollen tubes grew successfully to the ovary and penetrated manyovules. Both species therefore show ‘late-acting self-incompatibility’(LSI) or ‘ovarian sterility’ (OS) type control ofselfing. LSI-OS has been reported in 17 species of the Bignoniaceae, and is also clustered in families such as the Bombacaceae-Sterculiaceae,Fabaceae and Myrtaceae. The implications of such family clusteringare discussed, with regard to current hypotheses for the actionof LSI-OS phenomena. Recently much attention has been paid to genetic aspects of invasive success in Japanese knotweed s.l. One hypothesis to explain the invasive spread of these species is a multiple introduction, which leads to a higher level of genetic diversity in the invaded range. Fallopia japonica is considered to be genetically uniform in Europe, introduced as a single female clone. However, there is some evidence suggesting that invasion history and dynamics differ between Western and Central-Eastern Europe. We used AFLP markers to characterize genetic diversity of three Fallopia taxa that occur in Poland: F. japonica, F. sachalinensis and their hybrid Fallopia × bohemica, growing in so-called ‘homogeneous’ populations, consisting of one taxon and ‘heterogeneous’ populations, composed of the three taxa cohabiting together. No polymorphism, resp. an insignificantly low variability was observed in the ‘homogeneous’ populations. In the ‘heterogeneous’ stands polymorphism was detected within each taxa, with one exception that concerns individuals of F. sachalinensis from a riparian habitat. The highest level of polymorphism was found among individuals of F. × bohemica. The most striking result of our study is the observation of polymorphism between individuals of F. japonica. The AFLP data also showed that F. × bohemica is most diverse when occurring in a heterogeneous configuration with F. japonica and F. sachalinensis in the same habitat. Our results are the first evidence of genetic diversity in F. japonica populations in Central Europe and can implicate the possibility of its multiple introduction in this region or the existence of sexual reproduction of this species.  相似文献

Knowledge about the reproduction strategies of invasive species is fundamental for effective control. The invasive Fallopia taxa (Japanese knotweed s.l.) reproduce mainly clonally in Europe, and preventing spread of vegetative fragments is the most important control measure. However, high levels of genetic variation within the hybrid F. × bohemica indicate that hybridization and seed dispersal could be important. In Norway in northern Europe, it is assumed that these taxa do not reproduce sexually due to low temperatures in the autumn when the plants are flowering. The main objective of this study was to examine the genetic variation of invasive Fallopia taxa in selected areas in Norway in order to evaluate whether the taxa may reproduce by seeds in their most northerly distribution range in Europe. Fallopia stands from different localities in Norway were analyzed with respect to prevalence of taxa, and genetic variation within and between taxa was studied using amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP). Taxonomic identification based on morphology corresponded with identification based on simple sequence repeats (SSR) and DNA ploidy levels (8× Fjaponica, 6× F. × bohemica and 4× F. sachalinensis). No genetic variation within Fjaponica was detected. All F. × bohemica samples belonged to a single AFLP genotype, but one sample had a different SSR genotype. Two SSR genotypes of F. sachalinensis were also detected. Extremely low genetic variation within the invasive Fallopia taxa indicates that these taxa do not reproduce sexually in the region, suggesting that control efforts can be focused on preventing clonal spread. Climate warming may increase sexual reproduction of invasive Fallopia taxa in northern regions. The hermaphrodite F. × bohemica is a potential pollen source for the male‐sterile parental species. Targeted eradication of the hybrid can therefore reduce the risk of increased sexual reproduction under future warmer climate.  相似文献

Hybridization has been proposed as a mechanism by which exotic plants can increase their invasiveness. By generating novel recombinants, hybridization may result in phenotypes that are better adapted to the new environment than their parental species. We experimentally assessed the resistance of five exotic Fallopia taxa, F. japonica var. japonica, F. sachalinensis and F. baldschuanica, the two hybrids F. × bohemica and F. × conollyana, and the common European plants Rumex obtusifolius and Taraxacum officinale to four native European herbivores, the slug Arion lusitanicus, the moth Noctua pronuba, the grasshopper Metrioptera roeselii and the beetle Gastrophysa viridula. Leaf area consumed and relative growth rate of the herbivores differed significantly between the Fallopia taxa and the native species, as well as among the Fallopia taxa, and was partly influenced by interspecific variation in leaf morphology and physiology. Fallopia japonica, the most abundant Fallopia taxon in Europe, showed the highest level of resistance against all herbivores tested. The level of resistance of the hybrids compared to that of their parental species varied depending on hybrid taxon and herbivore species. Genotypes of the hybrid F. × bohemica varied significantly in herbivore resistance, but no evidence was found that hybridization has generated novel recombinants that are inherently better defended against resident herbivores than their parental species, thereby increasing the hybrid’s invasion success. In general, exotic Fallopia taxa showed higher levels of herbivore resistance than the two native plant species, suggesting that both parental and hybrid Fallopia taxa largely escape from herbivory in Europe.  相似文献

Urbanized landscapes are the theater of multiple simultaneous biological invasions likely to affect spread dynamics when co-occurring introduced species interact with each other. Interactions between widespread invaders call for particular attention because they are likely to be common and because non-additive outcomes of such associations might induce negative consequences (e.g., enhanced population growth increasing impacts or resistance to control). We explored the invasions of two widespread invasive taxa: the Japanese knotweed species complex Fallopia spp. and the invasive garden ant Lasius neglectus, in the urban area of Lyon (France). First, we investigated landscape habitat preferences as well as co-occurrence rates of the two species. We showed that Fallopia spp. and L. neglectus had broadly overlapping environmental preferences (measured by seven landscape variables), but their landscape co-occurrence pattern was random, indicating independent spread and non-obligatory association. Second, as Fallopia spp. produce extra-floral nectar, we estimated the amount of nectar L. neglectus used under field conditions without ant competitors. We estimated that L. neglectus collected 150–321 kg of nectar in the month of April (when nectar production is peaking) in a 1162 m2 knotweed patch, an amount likely to boost ant population growth. Finally, at six patches of Fallopia spp. surveyed, herbivory levels were low (1–6% loss of leaf surface area) but no relationship between ant abundance (native and invasive) and loss of leaf surface was found. Co-occurrences of Fallopia spp. and L. neglectus are likely to become more common as both taxa colonize landscapes, which could favor the spread and invasion success of the invasive ant.  相似文献

Within Europe, mountain ecosystems are generally less invaded by exotic plant species than are lowland areas. This pattern is commonly attributed to climatic harshness, which limits invasive species presence, and higher propagule pressure and rates of disturbance in lowlands, which favours dissemination. However, the extent to which anthropogenic and natural disturbances contribute to invasive species presence in mountain and lowland environments remains unclear. We conducted field observations in a lowland and an upland region in France and measured environmental variables, estimated the natural and anthropogenic disturbance of plots invaded by Fallopia spp. and compared them to non-invaded plots. Based on generalised linear mixed models, the predictors of Fallopia spp. presence in the upland area only included anthropogenic elements such as the presence of a road or trail and frequentation by humans, whereas both anthropogenic parameters and natural components (light penetration, slope, presence of a road and of a watercourse) were retained as predictors for the lowland region. We calculated the odds of Fallopia spp. presence for the increase of one unit of each predictor. We conclude that the spread of Fallopia spp. in upland areas was mainly linked to human activity whereas dissemination of the species occurred both through humans and in natural ways in lowland areas, and this may be due to a more recent colonisation in the mountains. We therefore advise stakeholders to undertake actions in mountain areas to specifically limit the dissemination of exotic species by humans and to monitor areas of high invasion risk by exotic species, such as areas neighbouring trails and roads highly frequented by humans.  相似文献

Basal rot is a common onion disease and is mainly caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cepae and Fusarium proliferatum. To study the possibility of using volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as biomarkers for these fungi, pathogenic isolates of F. oxysporum and F. proliferatum from onions were cultivated in onion medium and VOCs were measured by solid phase microextraction (SPME). Forty-two compounds were detected, and thirty of these compounds were highly related to fungal metabolic activity. Allyl mercaptan was specific to F. oxysporum isolate Fox006. Analysis of the VOCs showed significant differences between the two species and among different isolates within the same species. Sixteen of the VOCs showed were highly positively correlated with the fungal biomass estimated by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Ethanol, ethyl formate, ethyl acetate, 2-methyl-1-propanol, methyl thioacetate, n-propyl acetate and 3-methyl-1-butanol are volatile metabolites that were potential indicators of Fusarium growth on onions.  相似文献

Powdery mildew Phyllactinia (Ovulariopsis cf. insolita) is reported on Funastrum clausum and Fcynanchoides in Sinaloa, Mexico. The fungus was reported as Oidium insolitum on Lycium chilense in Argentina, later as Phyllactinia chubutiana (anamorph Ovulariopsis insolita). This fungus was studied by light microscopy and molecular techniques. Fungal mycelium was smooth, effuse, with septate hyphae; appressoria distinct, or ramified; conidiophores pseudoidium type; mature conidium cingulum-like, subcylindric with sub-apical and sub-terminal protuberances. Two rDNA ITS nucleotide sequences were 99% homolog with P. chubutiana's sequence.  相似文献

Studies of plant invasions rarely address impacts on molluscs. By comparing pairs of invaded and corresponding uninvaded plots in 96 sites in floodplain forests, we examined effects of four invasive alien plants (Impatiens glandulifera, Fallopia japonica, F. sachalinensis, and F.×bohemica) in the Czech Republic on communities of land snails. The richness and abundance of living land snail species were recorded separately for all species, rare species listed on the national Red List, and small species with shell size below 5 mm. The significant impacts ranged from 16–48% reduction in snail species numbers, and 29–90% reduction in abundance. Small species were especially prone to reduction in species richness by all four invasive plant taxa. Rare snails were also negatively impacted by all plant invaders, both in terms of species richness or abundance. Overall, the impacts on snails were invader-specific, differing among plant taxa. The strong effect of I. glandulifera could be related to the post-invasion decrease in abundance of tall nitrophilous native plant species that are a nutrient-rich food source for snails in riparian habitats. Fallopia sachalinensis had the strongest negative impact of the three knotweeds, which reflects differences in their canopy structure, microhabitat humidity and litter decomposition. The ranking of Fallopia taxa according to the strength of impacts on snail communities differs from ranking by their invasiveness, known from previous studies. This indicates that invasiveness does not simply translate to impacts of invasion and needs to be borne in mind by conservation and management authorities.  相似文献
