Klingensmith , M. J. (Colgate U., Hamilton, N.Y.) The effect of benzimidazole on cation uptake by plant roots. Amer. Jour. Bot. 48(8): 711–716. Illus. 1961.—A number of benzazole compounds were examined for their effect on cation uptake. Benzimidazole was found to almost double the uptake of potassium by excised barley roots in a 6-hr period. Chlorobenzimidazole also enhanced the absorption of potassium but not to the same extent. This stimulation of potassium accumulation was found to be insensitive to cyanide but was dependent on the temperature of the ambient solution. There was also an increased accumulation of potassium by roots of intact barley plants with benzimidazole treatment without interference with subsequent transport of the potassium. Benzimidazole also stimulated uptake of sodium and calcium by excised barley roots but not at identical levels. Results are discussed in the light of various theories of ion absorption.  相似文献

The effects of EDTA·Mg or GEDTA·Mg on the uptakeof nutrient ions, the release of Ca++ and nucleotides into themedium and the nucleic acid contents in rice and red bean rootswere investigated.
  1. Both EDTA and EDTA·Mg induced similarly the release ofCa from roots.
  2. EDTA·Mg as well as EDTA brought abouta significant repressionin K uptake, but had an insignificantor no effect on P, NH4and NO3 uptakes. EDTA·Ca did notrepress K, P, NH4 andNO3 uptakes.
  3. EDTA or GEDTA acceleratedthe degradation of nucleic acid andthe release of nucleotides,while EDTA·Mg or GEDTA·Mghad no such effect.
These results indicate that the indispensable role of intracellularCa in K uptake does not appear to be directly associated withRNA metabolism. (Received July 29, 1965; )  相似文献

THE INFECTION OF PLANTS BY VIRUSES THROUGH ROOTS   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Roots of young tomato plants became infected when inoculated with tomato bushy stunt, tobacco mosaic, and potato X viruses. Root infections also occurred when these viruses were added to soil or culture solutions in which plants were growing.
The viruses were sometimes localized around their initial entry points in roots; sometimes they invaded the root system but not the shoots, and sometimes they produced full systemic infection of roots and shoots. In some experiments, but not all, systemic infections were more frequent when the upper tap root or superficial roots were inoculated than when fibrous roots were inoculated.
In both tomato and potato, virus X spread from diseased to healthy plants sharing the same culture solution, if their roots were in contact, but not otherwise. Infection of the roots of potato plants by inoculation, produced only one plant with virus-infected haulms, although several had infected tubers.  相似文献

光抑制许多种植物离体根的延长生长,在 White 培养基中增添肌醇和蔗糖能改善其发育。连续白光可诱导黄瓜等植物离体根变绿、进行缓慢的叶绿素 a 和 b 以及类胡萝卜素的生物合成。叶绿体发生于中柱内的小型薄壁细胞中,在造粉休中逐渐形成:淀粉粒逐渐消失,被充满质体内的层膜系统取代,形成与叶肉细胞不同的、大量类囊体垛叠的基粒。绿色离体根短粗,有光合自养能力,鲜重及干重均大于黑暗对照。离体根的光形态建成受除草剂的不同影响。  相似文献
