The involvement of serine protease(s) in the conidial discharge of Conidiobolus coronatus was investigated using the parent strain and a variant strain with reduced conidial discharge. Time course profiles of protease levels and conidial discharge showed that maximum protease levels coincided with maximum conidial discharge in both the parent and variant strains. Inhibition of serine protease(s) by phenyl methyl sulfonyl fluoride showed that low protease levels resulted in inhibition of the conidial discharge and a minimum activity of 1.0 U/mg protein is essential for triggering the conidial discharge. Using casein to induce proteases, it was further observed that early gain in the protease level (1.0 U/mg protein) leads to early onset of conidial discharge. The above evidence suggests the involvement of protease(s) in the conidial discharge of C. coronatus.  相似文献

Correlative light and electron microscopic observations were used to reconstruct the morphological events involved in the development of the discharge apparatus of Entophlyctis zoosporangia. A discharge plug formed as vesicles containing fibrillar material fused with the plasma membrane and deposited their matrices between the plasma membrane and zoosporangial wall. At the apex of the enlarging plug, the zoosporangial wall lost its microfibrillar appearance, became diffuse, and left an inoperculate discharge pore. The discharge plug exuded through this pore and then expanded into a sphere which rested at the tip of the discharge papilla or tube. After the release of the discharge plug, the number of fibrilla containing vesicles decreased and abundant endoplasmic reticulum appeared in the cytoplasm below the plug. Granular material then accumulated at the interface of the discharge plug and the plasma membrane. This was the endo-operculum. A single layer of endoplasmic reticulum subtended the area of plasma membrane which the endo-operculum covered. Later, dictyosomes appeared in the cytoplasm below the endo-operculum. Fusion of Golgi vesicles with the plasma membrane below the endo-operculum coincided with the initiation of cytoplasmic cleavage. This sequence of events indicates that, unlike the discharge plug, the endo-operculum does not originate by vesicular addition of preformed material.  相似文献

Results are presented from experimental studies of a pulsating discharge produced by a dc power source in subsonic and supersonic cold (T = 150–300 K) air flows at static air pressures in the flow of 40–760 Torr. Two modes of pulsating discharge were implemented experimentally: without and with (from one to five) intermediate breakdowns. The discharge pulsation frequency, the maximum attainable voltage across the discharge gap, the length of the plasma channel, and the electric field in the discharge plasma were studied as functions of the air flow velocity and discharge current.  相似文献

The current distribution in a dielectric barrier discharge in atmospheric-pressure air at a natural humidity of 40–60% was studied experimentally with a time resolution of 200 ps. The experimental results are interpreted by means of numerically simulating the discharge electric circuit. The obtained results indicate that the discharge operating in the volumetric mode develops simultaneously over the entire transverse cross section of the discharge gap.  相似文献

A surface discharge in a system where metal electrodes in the form of a series of parallel strips are positioned on the dielectric surface is studied. Analytical formulas for calculating the spatial distribution of the potential and the electric field in a discharge cell are derived. It is shown that the geometry of the metal electrodes should be taken into account (along with physical and chemical characteristics of the dielectric, the voltage applied to the electrodes, and other parameters of the system) for generation of the electric field with optimal configuration in the discharge cell. The obtained results are also applicable for analysis of discharge cells with a coplanar barrier discharge where metal electrodes are positioned in the dielectric at small depths. The results are of interest since a barrier discharge is one of the efficient methods for generating non-equilibrium plasma at high pressures for a variety of technological applications.  相似文献

The properties of a surface barrier discharge in atmospheric-pressure air at different polarities of applied voltage were studied experimentally. The influence of the voltage polarity on the spatial structure of the discharge and the electric field in the discharge plasma was determined by means of spectroscopic measurements. It is found that the energy deposited in the discharge does not depend on the voltage polarity and that discharges of positive polarity are more homogenous and the electric fields in them are higher.  相似文献

Summary In this paper the effect of the statistical properties of the ganglion cell discharge on the transfer characteristics of the cat's retinal sensory system is studied. On the basis of results reported by the literature, a mathematical model of the system is defined. The model is then studied by digital computer, to obtain the amplitude of its response to sinusoidal stimulation as a function of frequency. The results show that, as the discharge is not Poisson-like, a positive resonance exists between stimulus and discharge at stimulus frequencies whose period is of the same order as, or smaller than the mean interval of the discharge. The amplitude of the resonance is a function of the statistical parameters of the discharge. These results fit well experiments recently carried out.  相似文献

The microbicidal effect of electrical discharges on microorganisms suspended in the discharge liquid was reduced when the liquid contained high concentrations of inorganic salts (conductivity k >/= 5 mmho/cm). A higher discharge voltage and a smaller distance between the submerged electrodes counteracted this reduction. The decrease in the microbicidal effect was accompanied by a change in the electrical current and by a decreased yield of microbicidal photons from the electric discharge.  相似文献

The electric organ discharge of the gymnotiform fish Brachyhypopomus pinnicaudatus is a biphasic waveform. The female's electric organ discharge is nearly symmetric but males produce a longer second phase than first phase. In this study, infrared-sensitive video cameras monitored the position of unrestrained fish, facilitating precise measurement of electric organ discharge duration and amplitude every 2 h for 24 h. Males (n=27) increased electric organ discharge duration by 37 ± 12% and amplitude by 24 ± 9% at night and decreased it during the day. In contrast, females (n=8) exhibited only minor electric organ discharge variation over time. Most of a male's increase occurred rapidly within the first 2–3 h of darkness. Electric organ discharge values gradually diminished during the second half of the dark period and into the next morning. Modulation of the second phase of the biphasic electric organ discharge produced most of the duration change in males, but both phases changed amplitude by similar amounts. Turning the lights off at mid-day triggered an immediate increase in electric organ discharge, suggesting modification of existing ion channels in the electric organ, rather than altered genomic expression. Exaggeration of electric organ discharge sex differences implies a social function. Daily reduction of duration and amplitude may reduce predation risk or energy expenditure. A one-dimensional model of an RF discharge in CO-containing gas mixtures is developed. The model takes into account the effect of the degree of vibrational excitation of CO molecules on the structure of the discharge and on its parameters. Experimental data are presented from measurements of the voltage-power characteristics of RF discharges in gas mixtures with different CO contents in the pressure range of 10–100 torr. The model developed is used to calculate the dependence of the root-mean-square discharge voltage on the specific power deposition in an RF discharge under our experimental conditions. The experimental data are compared to the results of numerical simulations. For working gas pressures of about 100 torr, which are typical of the operation of slab CO lasers, the calculated voltage-power characteristics of an RF discharge agree satisfactorily with those obtained experimentally. The theoretical model predicts that the vibrational excitation of CO molecules leads to a redistribution of the RF field in the discharge gap and to an increase in the laser efficiency.  相似文献

The effect of the nonlocal nature of the electron distribution function on the dissociation rate of oxygen molecules in a dc glow discharge is studied. The concentration of oxygen atoms and the probability of their loss at the discharge tube wall are measured as functions of the discharge parameters by means of the timeresolved actinometric method involving argon atoms. An analysis of the measurement data in terms of both a discharge model in which the effect of the nonlocal nature of the electron energy spectrum is taken into account and a model in which this effect is ignored makes it possible to thoroughly investigate the balance of oxygen atoms in the discharge. The production rate of O(3P) atoms and their concentration in the plasma are calculated with allowance for the nonlocal nature of the electron energy distribution function. The calculated values agree well with the experimental data and differ substantially from those obtained using a spatially homogeneous distribution function.  相似文献

Images of ion emission sources in the micropinch discharge plasma are obtained by the pinhole camera technique. A region that is the source of the most intense ion emission has a length of about 3 mm along the discharge axis and a width of ≤1 mm. It seems that the image of the emitting region recorded in the axial direction reflects the action of the discharge current magnetic field on the directional pattern of the ion flow.  相似文献

Results are presented from measurements of the discharge current and the factor of the discharge gap filling with spark channels during pulsed sliding discharges of opposite polarities in Ne, Ar, and Xe on an aluminum oxide ceramic surface. The measurements were performed in the regime of single pulses of submi-crosecond duration at discharge voltages of 0?C12 kV with two discharge chambers with different thicknesses of the ceramic plate (0.4 and 0.17 cm) and different electrode gap lengths (4 and 10.3 cm) at gas pressures of 30 and 100 kPa. The results obtained for discharges of opposite polarities are compared with one another, and common features of discharges in three gases are revealed. It is shown that the filling of the discharge gap with spark channels in the gases under study is more efficient in the case of the positive polarity of the discharge voltage, except Xe at a pressure of 100 kPa in the electrode gap of length 10.3 cm. The quasi-homogeneous regime of discharge in each of the three gases is attained easier at lower gas pressures. Comparison of the data on the filling factors of the discharge gap and the peak currents of opposite-polarity discharges for each gas at a given pressure indicates that the higher the discharge current, the more densely the discharge gap is filled with spark channels.  相似文献

Experimental data on the spatial structure of a single-pulse sliding discharge in neon at voltages below, equal to, and above the threshold for spark breakdown are discussed. The experiments were carried at gas pressures of 30 and 100 kPa and different polarities of the discharge voltage. Photographs of the plasma structure in two discharge chambers with different dimensions of the discharge zone and different thicknesses of an alumina dielectric plate on the surface of which the discharge develops are inspected. Common features of the prebreakdown discharge and its specific features depending on the voltage polarity and gas pressure are analyzed. It is shown that, at voltages below the threshold for spark breakdown, a low-current glow discharge with cathode and anode spots develops in the electrode gap. Above the breakdown threshold, regardless of the voltage polarity, spark channels directed from the cathode to the anode develop against the background of a low-current discharge.  相似文献

The modulatory influence of reserpine-induced PGO wave upon the spontaneous activity of visual cortical neurons was examined in acutely prepared cats. Unitary discharge of cortical neurons was recorded extracellularly with glass micropipettes. Of twenty three neurons three showed a vigorous discharge synchronously with a certain phase of PGO wave. One neuron was strongly suppressed by the occurrence of PGO wave. Three neurons showed an increase and one neuron showed a decrease, respectively, in discharge in a loose correlation with PGO wave. This study has demonstrated the presence of a unique group of neurons which show a burst discharge or a complete silence in a precisely phase-lock manner when reserpine-induced PGO wave occurred.  相似文献

Increased precipitation is one projected outcome of climate change that may enhance the discharge of freshwater to the coastal zone. The resulting lower salinity, and associated discharge of both nutrients and dissolved organic carbon, may influence food web functioning. The scope of this study was to determine the net outcome of increased freshwater discharge on the balance between auto‐ and heterotrophic processes in the coastal zone. By using long‐term ecological time series data covering 13 years, we show that increased river discharge suppresses phytoplankton biomass production and shifts the carbon flow towards microbial heterotrophy. A 76% increase in freshwater discharge resulted in a 2.2 times higher ratio of bacterio‐ to phytoplankton production (Pb:Pp). The level of Pb:Pp is a function of riverine total organic carbon supply to the coastal zone. This is mainly due to the negative effect of freshwater and total organic carbon discharge on phytoplankton growth, despite a concomitant increase in discharge of nitrogen and phosphorus. With a time lag of 2 years the bacterial production recovered after an initial decline, further synergistically elevating the microbial heterotrophy. Current climate change projections suggesting increased precipitation may therefore lead to increased microbial heterotrophy, thereby decreasing the transfer efficiency of biomass to higher trophic levels. This prognosis would suggest reduced fish production and lower sedimentation rates of phytoplankton, a factor of detriment to benthic fauna. Our findings show that discharge of freshwater and total organic carbon significantly contributes to the balance of coastal processes at large spatial and temporal scales, and that model's would be greatly augmented by the inclusion of these environmental drivers as regulators of coastal productivity.  相似文献

A model is developed for simulating a low-current moderate-pressure RF discharge with allowance for such characteristic discharge properties as the existence of two sheaths near both electrodes throughout the RF field period; the formation of an electron cloud at the sheath boundary that periodically fills the sheath and leaves it, depending on the phase of the applied RF voltage; the production by the sheath electrons of metastable gas particles that interact with the cloud electrons during subsequent field periods, followed by the excitation of metastable states to the emitting levels; the formation of a sheath in a low-current RF discharge due to the overlap of the secondary electron avalanches triggered by electron photoemission from the electrode surface; and the conditions under which the sheath electrons penetrate into the positive column and accumulate there, which makes, thereby making a low-current RF discharge similar to a non-self-sustained discharge. The parameters of the sheath in a low-current RF discharge are determined by the conditions under which the electron photoemission current from the electrode surface in the sheath is self-sustaining and, like the parameters of the positive discharge column, depend on the sort of gas, the gas pressure, the frequency of the applied RF field, and the interelectrode distance. The results of calculating the parameters of the sheath and column of a low-current RF discharge for nitrogen and helium at different pressures, as well as for different field frequencies and interelectrode distances, are presented and are compared with the experimental data.  相似文献

A spherical glow discharge with a pointlike anode is considered in a self-consistent drift-diffusion approximation. The model includes the time-dependent continuity equations for ions and electrons in the drift-diffusion approximation and Poisson’s equation for the radial electric field. In finding steady-state distributions, Ohm’s law is used to relate the discharge voltage and discharge current. Steady-state distributions of the plasma parameters across the discharge gap, current-voltage characteristics, and cathode characteristics for an abnormal spherical discharge in molecular nitrogen are obtained. In a subnormal glow-discharge regime, oscillations in the conduction current, potential, and other discharge parameters are revealed. Similar regimes are also observed in conventional discharges in tubes.  相似文献

Results of two-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations of a surface glow discharge operating at pressures of 0.2–0.5 Torr in a nitrogen flow propagating with a velocity of 1000 m/s in the presence of external ionization are presented. The effect of the external ionization rate on discharge operation is analyzed. The current-voltage characteristics of the discharge are calculated for different intensities of external ionization in both the presence and absence of secondary electron emission from the cathode. The discharge structure and plasma parameters in the vicinity of the loaded electrode are considered. It is shown that, when the discharge operates at the expense of secondary emission from the cathode, the discharge current and cathode sheath configuration are insensitive to external ionization. It is also demonstrated that, even at a high rate of external ionization, the discharge operates due to secondary emission from the cathode.  相似文献

It has been revealed pronounced differences between neuronal discharge activity of central and basolateral nuclei of amygdala. After midbrain raphe medial nucleus damage discharge activity of amygdalar nuclei markedly changes, mainly by reciprocal manner.
