The features of the relaxation of a quasi-steady glow discharge after extra excitation by a nanosecond high-voltage pulse are studied experimentally. It is shown that the plasma relaxation is characterized by the existence of a time interval with a low emission intensity—a glow pause. A kinetic model of the helium plasma relaxation is developed. It is shown that the nanosecond discharge that creates extra ionization and metastable atoms enables one to keep the electron temperature at a quasi-steady level within the range 0.05–0.5 eV for several hundred microseconds during the glow pause. The effect of the helium temperature on the glow pause features is investigated.  相似文献

Pulsed Regime of the Diffusive Mode of a Barrier Discharge in Helium   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Periodic pulsations of the active current component are revealed experimentally in transversely homogeneous barrier discharges in helium at small values of the parameter Pd (below 500 torr mm) and moderate frequencies of the applied voltage (f < 100 kHz). The frequency of the current pulsations is higher than the frequency of the well-studied pulsations in a transversely inhomogeneous streamer barrier discharge in air by a factor of approximately 100. Numerical calculations show that the physical nature of the observed pulsations can be explained in terms of the negative differential resistance of the cathode fall region, which occupies essentially the entire interelectrode gap in each half-period of the applied voltage.  相似文献

The phenomenon of subnanosecond electrical breakdown in a strong electric field observed in an open discharge in helium at pressures of 6–20 Torr can be used to create ultrafast plasma switches triggering into a conducting state for a time shorter than 1 ns. To evaluate the possible repetition rate of such a subnanosecond switch, it is interesting to study the decay dynamics of the plasma remaining in the discharge gap after ultrafast breakdown. In this paper, a kinetic model based on the particle-in-cell Monte Carlo collision method is used to study the dynamics of the plasma afterglow in the discharge gap of a subnanosecond switch operating with helium at a pressure of 6 Torr. The simulation results show that the radiative, collisional-radiative, and three-body collision recombination mechanisms significantly contribute to the afterglow decay only while the plasma density remains higher than 1012 cm?3; the main mechanism of the further plasma decay is diffusion of plasma particles onto the wall. Therefore, the effect of recombination in the plasma bulk is observed only during the first 10–20 μs of the afterglow. Over nearly the same time, plasma electrons become thermalized. The afterglow time can be substantially reduced by applying a positive voltage Uc to the cathode. Since diffusive losses are limited by the ion mobility, the additional ion drift toward the wall significantly accelerates plasma decay. As Uc increases from 0 to +500 V, the characteristic time of plasma decay is reduced from 35 to 10 μs.  相似文献

We report the results of an interdisciplinary collaboration formed to assess the sterilizing capabilities of the One Atmosphere Uniform Glow Discharge Plasma (OAUGDP). This newly-invented source of glow discharge plasma (the fourth state of matter) is capable of operating at atmospheric pressure in air and other gases, and of providing antimicrobial active species to surfaces and workpieces at room temperature as judged by viable plate counts. OAUGDP exposures have reduced log numbers of bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, and endospores from Bacillus stearothermophilus and Bacillus subtilis on seeded solid surfaces, fabrics, filter paper, and powdered culture media at room temperature. Initial experimental data showed a two-log10 CFU reduction of bacteria when 2 × 102 cells were seeded on filter paper. Results showed ≥3 log10 CFU reduction when polypropylene samples seeded with E. coli (5 × 104) were exposed, while a 30 s exposure time was required for similar killing with S. aureus-seeded polypropylene samples. The exposure times required to effect ≥6 log10 CFU reduction of E. coli and S. aureus on polypropylene samples were no longer than 30 s. Experiments with seeded samples in sealed commercial sterilization bags showed little or no differences in exposure times compared to unwrapped samples. Plasma exposure times of less than 5 min generated ≥5 log10 CFU reduction of commercially prepared Bacillus subtilis spores (1 × 106); 7 min OAUGDP exposures were required to generate a ≥3 log10 CFU reduction for Bacillus stearothermophilus spores. For all microorganisms tested, a biphasic curve was generated when the number of survivors vs time was plotted in dose-response cures. Currently, there is no experimental data on the plasma balance in gas mixtures with a high content of singlet delta oxygen O2(1Δg). These data can be obtained by studying the parameters of an electric discharge in singlet oxygen produced by a chemical generator. The O2(1Δg) molecules significantly change the kinetics of electrons and negative ions in plasma. Hence, the discharge conditions at low and high. O2(1Δg) concentrations are very different. Here, the parameters of the positive column of a glow discharge in a gas flow from a chemical singlet-oxygen generator are studied. It is experimentally shown that, at an O2(1Δg) concentration of 50% and at pressures of 1.5 and 2 torr, the electric field required to sustain the discharge is considerably lower than in the case when all of the oxygen molecules are in the ground state. A theoretical model of the glow discharge is proposed whose predictions are in good agreement with the experimental data.  相似文献

We present a benchmark suite for computational Grids. It is based on the NAS Parallel Benchmarks (NPB) and is called NAS Grid Benchmark (NGB) in this paper. We present NGB as a data flow graph encapsulating an instance of an NPB code in each graph node, which communicates with other nodes by sending/receiving initialization data. These nodes may be mapped to the same or different Grid machines. Like NPB, NGB specifies several different classes (problem sizes). NGB also specifies the generic Grid services sufficient for running the suite. The implementor has the freedom to choose any Grid environment. We describe a reference implementation in Java, and present some scenarios for using NGB.  相似文献

The glow intensity profile in a spherically stratified gas discharge is measured. It is shown that the boundaries of striations are thin spherical glowing shells, whose thickness is proportional to the striation radius. Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs), based on hard carbon anodes and Na+-intercalation compound cathodes, have gained significant attention. Nonetheless, hard carbon anodes involve the storage of Na+ at a low potential, typically below 0.1 V (vs Na/Na+), which increases the risk of dendritic Na growth on the anode surface during overcharging. Herein, a safe organic/inorganic composite anode containing tetrasodium 3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylate (Na4PTC) and Metallic bismuth (Bi) with a weight ratio of 7:2, which exhibits an average potential of 0.7 V (vs Na+/Na) and a capacity of 150 mAh g−1 is proposed. The electrode reaction involves a reversible coordination reaction within the organic host and alloying reactions within the metallic Bi component. Importantly, the organic component efficiently buffers the volume changes in Bi during the alloying reaction, while the metallic Bi enhances the electronic conductivity of the organic material. As a result, this composite anode shows high cycle stability and rate performance, even under high mass loadings ranging from 10 to 50 mg cm−2. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that the Na-ion full cell, consisting of the composite anode and the Na3V2O2(PO4)2F cathode, exhibits minimal capacity degradation over 100 cycles while maintaining a high areal capacity of 1.1 mA cm−2.  相似文献
