In wavelength surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensor, the manipulation of SPR dispersion relation by Ag/Au bi-metallic film was first time implemented. Due to the enhanced resonant wavelength shift and the sharper SPR slope of using Ag/Au bi-metallic film, the illuminated color of reflection shows one order of magnitude greater contrast than conventional SPR biosensors. Such an Ag/Au bi-metallic film based color SPR biosensor (CSPRB) allows the detail bio-interactions, for example 100 nM streptavidin, to be distinguished by directly observing the color change of reflection through naked eyes rather than the analysis of spectrometer. In addition to the enhanced sensitivity and color contrast, this CSPRB also possesses a great linear detection range up to 0.0254 RIU, which leading to the application of point-of-care tests.  相似文献

We theoretically propose a surface plasmon resonance (SPR)-based fiber optic refractive index (RI) sensor. A surface plasmon exciting metallic grating formed with the alternation of indium tin oxide (ITO) and silver (Ag) stripes is considered on the core of the fiber. A thin film of silicon is used as an overlay. Silicon film not only protects the metallic grating from oxidation but also enhances the field to improve the device sensitivity. The sensor is characterized in terms of sensitivity, detection accuracy (DA), figure of merit (FoM), and quality factor (QF). The maximum sensitivity in the RI range 1.33 to 1.38 refractive index unit (RIU) is reported to be?~25 µm/RIU in infra-red region of investigation.

A dual-core and dual D-shaped photonic crystal fiber (PCF)-based surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor with silver and aluminum nitride (AlN) films is designed. The distribution characteristics of the electromagnetic fields of core and plasmon modes, as well as the sensing properties, are numerically studied by finite element method (FEM). The structure parameters of the designed sensor are optimized by the optical loss spectrum. The results show the resonance wavelength variation of 489 nm for the refractive index (RI) range of 1.36?~?1.42. In addition, a maximum wavelength sensitivity of 13,400 nm/RIU with the corresponding RI resolution of 7.46?×?10?6 RIU is obtained in the RI range of 1.41?~?1.42. The proposed sensor with the merits of high sensitivity, low cost, and simple structure has a wide application in the fields of RI sensing, such as hazardous gas detection, environmental monitoring, and biochemical analysis.

Gold–silver core–shell triangular nanoprisms (Au/AgTNPs) were grown onto transparent indium tin oxide (ITO) thin film-coated glass substrate through a seed-mediated growth method without using peculiar binder molecules. The resulting Au/AgTNPs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, X-ray diffraction, UV–vis spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammograms. The peak of dipolar plasmonic resonance was located at near infrared region of ~700 nm, which showed the refractive index (RI) sensitivity of 248 nm/RIU. Moreover, thin gold shells were electrodeposited onto the surface of Au/AgTNPs in order to stabilize nanoparticles. Compared with the Au/AgTNPs, this peak of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) was a little red-shift and decreased slightly in intensity. The refractive index sensitivity was estimated to be 287 nm/RIU, which showed high sensitivity as a LSPR sensing platform. Those triangular nanoprisms deposited on the ITO substrate could be further functionalized to fabricate LSPR biosensors. Results of this research show a possibility of improving LSPR sensor by using core–shell nanostructures.  相似文献

In this article, a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensor based on D-typed optical fiber coated by Al2O3/Ag/Al2O3 film is investigated numerically. Resonance in near infrared with an optimized architecture is achieved. Refractive index sensitivity of 6558 nm/RIU (refractive index unit) and detection limit of 1.5 × 10−6 RIU, corresponding to 0.4357 nm/μM and detection limit of 23 nM in BSA (bovine serum albumin) concentration sensing, are obtained. The analysis of the performance of the sensor in gaseous sensing indicates that this proposed SPR sensor is much suitable for label-free biosensing in aqueous media.

Owing to its large surface-to-volume ratio and good biocompatibility, graphene has been identified as a highly promising candidate as the sensing layer for fiber optic sensors. In this paper, a graphene/Au-enhanced plastic clad silica (PCS) fiber optic surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor is presented. A sheet of graphene is employed as a sensing layer coated around the Au film on the PCS fiber surface. The PCS fiber is chosen to overcome the shortcomings of the structured microfibers and construct a more stable and reliable device. It is demonstrated that the introduction of graphene can enhance the intensity of the confined electric field surrounding the sensing layer, which results in a stronger light-matter interaction and thereby the improved sensitivity. The sensitivity of graphene-based fiber optic SPR sensor exhibits more than two times larger than that of the conventional gold film SPR fiber optic sensor. Furthermore, the dynamic response analyses reveal that the graphene/Au fiber optic SPR sensor exhibits a fast response (5 s response time) and excellent reusability (3.5% fluctuation) to the protein biomolecules. Such a graphene/Au fiber optic SPR sensor with high sensitivity and fast response shows a great promise for the future biochemical application.  相似文献

In this report, a novel D-shaped long-range surface plasmon resonance (LRSPR) fiber base sensor has been introduced. The demonstration of proposed sensor involves two D-shaped silver-coated models to study the sensitivity responses. The entire study with the constructed models is based on a single-mode fiber. The models are multilayered consisting of metal, dielectric, and analyte as separate layers. Silver (Ag) and magnesium fluoride (MgF2) strips are used as metal and dielectric layers respectively. The constituency of analyte as an interface excellently standardized the models for sensitivity detection. In this report, a large range of analyte refractive indices (RI) which varies from 1.33 to 1.38 is appraised for the proposed models to characterize the sensitivity. The entire context is encompassed by the wavelength region from 450 to 850 nm with an interval of 20 nm. Sensitivities in this report are measured based on the analyte position from the core and metal for both models. For each of the two models, the analyte is placed as the top layer. RIs of the applied metal (Ag) are measured using the Drude-Lorentz formula. The simulated sensitivities for model-1 and model-2 vary from 6.3?×?103 nm/RIU to 8.7?×?103 nm/RIU.

In this study, we prepared metallic corrugated structures for use as highly sensitive plasmonic sensors. Relying on the direct nanoimprint-in-metal method, fabrication of this metallic corrugated structure was readily achieved in a single step. The metallic corrugated structures were capable of sensing both surface plasmon resonance (SPR) wavelengths and index-matching effects. The corrugated Au films exhibited high sensitivity (ca. 800 nm/RIU), comparable with or even higher than those of other reported SPR-based sensors. Because of the unique index-matching effect, refractometric sensing could also be performed by measuring the transmission intensity of the Au/substrate SPR mode-conveniently, without a spectrometer. In the last, we demonstrated the corrugated Au film was capable of sensing biomolecules, revealing the ability of the structure to be a highly sensitive biosensor.  相似文献

We propose a surface plasmon resonance (SPR)-based fiber coupled refractive index sensing probe utilizing single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) as the upper most layer. The sensor is designed by considering indium tin oxide (ITO) film on the bare core of a multi-moded step-index fiber, followed by the deposition of silicon, and then by that of the highly doped bundled SWCNTs layers. The film thicknesses of different constituent layers are optimized with respect to the sensitivity and the detection accuracy of the sensor. The theoretical analysis results in high sensitivity of 9.78 μm per refractive index unit (μm/RIU) for the optimized probe in the infra-red (IR) region of the electromagnetic (EM) spectrum.  相似文献

We present a photonic crystal fiber (PCF)-based surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor, whose operating wavelength range is tunable. Gold nanoshells, consisting of silica cores coated with thin gold shells, are designed to be the functional material of the sensor because of their attractive optical properties. It is demonstrated that the resonant wavelength of the sensor can be precisely tuned in a broad range, 660 nm to 3.1 μm, across the visible and near-infrared regions of the spectrum by varying the diameter of the core and the thickness of the shell. Furthermore, the effects of structural parameters of the sensor on the sensing properties are systematically analyzed and discussed based on the numerical simulations. It is observed that a high spectral sensitivity of 4111.4 nm/RIU with the resolution of 2.45 × 10?5 RIU can be achieved in the sensing range of 1.33–1.38. These features make the sensor of great importance for a wide range of applications, especially in biosensing.  相似文献

We propose a highly sensitive novel diamond ring fiber (DRF)-based surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor for refractive index sensing. Chemically active plasmonic material (gold) layer is coated inside the large cavity of DRF, and the analyte is infiltrated directly through the fiber instead of selective infiltration. The light guiding properties and sensing performances are numerically investigated using the finite element method (FEM). The proposed sensor shows a maximum wavelength and amplitude interrogation sensitivity of 6000 nm/RIU and 508 RIU?1, respectively, over the refractive index range of 1.33–1.39. Additionally, it also shows a sensor resolution of 1.67 × 10?5 and 1.97 × 10?5 RIU by following the wavelength and amplitude interrogation methods, respectively. The proposed diamond ring fiber has been fabricated following the standard stack-and-draw method to show the feasibility of the proposed sensor. Due to fabrication feasibility and promising results, the proposed DRF SPR sensor can be an effective tool in biochemical and biological analyte detection.  相似文献

The localized surface plasmon resonances of multilayered nanostructures are studied using finite difference time domain simulations and plasmon hybridization method. Concentric metal–dielectric–metal (MDM) structure with metal core and nanoshell separated by a thin dielectric layer exhibits a strong coupling between the core and nanoshell plasmon resonance modes. The coupled resonance mode wavelengths show dependence on the dielectric layer thickness and composition of core and outer layer metal. The aluminum-based MDM structures show lower plasmon wavelength compared with Ag- and Au-based MDM nanostructures. The calculated refractive index sensitivity (RIS) factor is in the order Ag–Air–Ag>Au–Air–Au>Al–Air–Al for monometallic multilayered nanostructures. Bimetallic multilayered nanostructures support strong and tunable plasmon resonance wavelengths as well as high RIS factor of 510 nm/refractive index unit (RIU) and 470 nm/RIU for Al–Air–Au and Ag-Air-Au, respectively. The MDM structures not only exhibit higher index sensitivity but also cover a wide ultraviolet–near-infrared wavelengths, making these structures very promising for index sensing, biomolecule sensing, and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy.  相似文献

A photonic crystal fiber (PCF)-based surface plasmon resonance (SPR) probe with gold nanowires as the plasmonic material is proposed in this work. The coupling characteristics and sensing properties of the probe are numerically investigated by the finite element method. The probe is designed to detect low refractive indices between 1.27 and 1.36. The maximum spectral sensitivity and amplitude sensitivity are 6 × 103 nm/RIU and 600 RIU?1, respectively, corresponding to a resolution of 2.8 × 10?5 RIU for the overall refractive index range. Our analysis shows that the PCF-SPR probe can be used for lower refractive index detection.  相似文献

A surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor based on D-shaped photonic crystal fiber (PCF) coated with indium tin oxide (ITO) film is proposed and numerically investigated. Thanks to the adjustable complex refractive index of ITO, the sensor can be operated in the near-infrared (NIR) region. The wavelength sensitivity, amplitude sensitivity, and phase sensitivity are investigated with different fiber structure parameters. Simulation results show that ~6000 nm/refractive index unit (RIU), ~148/RIU, and ~1.2?×?106 deg/RIU/cm sensitivity can be achieved for wavelength interrogation, amplitude interrogation, and phase interrogation, respectively, when the environment refractive index varies between 1.30 and 1.31. It is noted that the wavelength sensitivity and phase sensitivity are more pronounced with larger refractive index. The proposed SPR sensor can be used in various applications, including medicine, environment, and large-scale targets detection.  相似文献

A temperature sensor based on hollow fiber (HF) filled with graphene-Ag composite nanowire and liquid is presented. The coupling properties and sensing performance are numerically analyzed by finite element method using wavelength and amplitude interrogations. Results show that the sensor exhibiting strong birefringence with x-polarized peak provides much higher sensitivities and better signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) than y-polarized, which is more suitable for temperature detection. The graphene-Ag composite nanowire can not only solve the oxidation problem but also avoid the metal coating. Moreover, it provides better performance than other similar works like Au-Ag nanowire-filled, Au nanowire-filled, and Ag nanowire-filled sensors. Contrary to the blue shift of traditional SPR temperature sensors, the resonance peak shifts to the longer wavelength in our device when temperature increases and the high sensitivity 9.44 nm/ °C is obtained. The influences of nanowire diameter, grapheme-layer thickness on the designed sensor, are also investigated. This work can provide a reference for developing a high sensitivity, real-time, remote sensing, and distributed temperature SPR sensor.  相似文献

We report a simple 1D grating device fabrication on ~50 nm gold (Au) film deposited on glass, which is employed as a high performance refractive index (RI) sensor by exploiting the surface plasmon polaritons (SPP) excited by the grating device along the Au/analyte interface. A finite element analysis (FEA) method is employed to maximize the sensitivity of the sensor for a fixed period and thickness of a gold film and its close correspondence with experiment has given the insight for high sensitivity and enhanced transmission. Significantly, in the context of economic design and performance, it is shown that an optimally designed and fabricated 1D grating can be as sensitive as 524 nm/RIU (linearity RI?=?1.33303 to 1.47399), which is remarkably higher than existing reports operating in a similar wavelength region.  相似文献

We propose and investigate a D-shaped photonic fiber refractive index sensor with rectangular lattice based on surface plasmon resonance. In such sensor, the nanoscale gold metal film is deposited on the flat surface where it is side polished. Numerical results show that the average sensitivity of Au-metalized surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor could reach as high as 8,129 nm/refractive index unit (RIU) in the dynamic index range from 1.35 to 1.41 as well as 2,000 nm/RIU from 1.33 to 1.35. Compared to conventional Au-metalized SPR sensors, the performance of our device is obviously better, and the production process is greatly simplified.  相似文献

Surface plasmons (SPs), the coherent charge density oscillations of the electrons bound to the metal-dielectric interface, are dominating the research field of optics. One of the ubiquitous applications of SPs is in sensing. In the present work, we have theoretically studied a couple of surface plasmon resonance (SPR)-based fiber-coupled ultra-sensitive refractive index sensors working in the infrared (IR) region. Either of the copper (Cu) and aluminum (Al) is used as surface plasmon exciting layers in these sensing probes. On the top of the metal layer, field-enhancing graphene and silicon layers are considered. The probes are characterized in terms of sensitivity and detection accuracy (DA). The sensitivities of Cu- and Al-based optimized probes are obtained respectively to be 23.50 and 24 μm/refractive index unit (RIU). To ensure the probes’ compatibility with bio-samples, an extra bio-recognition layer of graphene has been considered over the silicon layer which resulted into the respective sensitivities of 20 and 19.50 μm/RIU for Cu- and Al-based probes with appreciably good DAs.  相似文献

We study an active modulation of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of Au nanoparticles based on highly doped graphene in visible and near-infrared regions. We find that compared to the traditional metal SPR, the SPR of Au nanoparticles based on graphene causes a remarkable blue shift. The field intensity in the gap is redistributed to standing wave. The field intensity of standing wave is about one order of magnitude higher than the traditional model. Moreover, the SPR of Au nanoparticles can be actively modulated by varying the graphene Fermi energy. We find the maximum modulation of field intensity of absorption spectra is more than 21.6 % at λ?=?822?nm and the amount of blue shift is 17.4 nm, which is about 2.14 % of the initial wavelength λ 0?=?813.4?nm, with increasing monolayer graphene Fermi energy from 1.0 to 1.5 ev. We find that the SPR sensitivity to the refractive index n of the environment is about 642 nm per refractive index unit (RIU). The SPR wavelengths have a big blue shift, which is about 33 nm, with increasing number of graphene layers from 1 to 3, and some shoulders on the absorption spectra are observed in the models with multilayer graphene. Finally, we study the Au nanorod array based on monolayer graphene. We find that the blue shift caused by the graphene increases from 14 to 24 nm, with increasing gap g y from 10 to 20 nm. Then, it decreases from 24 to 14 nm, with increasing gap g y from 20 to 50 nm. This study provides a new way for actively modulating the optical and optoelectronic devices.  相似文献

Light control capability of photonic crystal fiber (PCF) is a unique feature which can be applied to improve biosensing and plasmonic performance. Here, we reported alphabetic-core microstructure fiber-based plasmonic biosensor. Three different alphabetic R-, M-, and S-shaped cores of PCF-based plasmonic microstructures show controllable light propagation to enhance biosensor sensitivity and resolution. The light-guiding properties and sensing performance are investigated numerically using the finite element method (FEM). The proposed R-shaped core (RSC), M-shaped core (MSC), and S-shaped core (SSC) PCF-based plasmonic sensors show the maximum wavelength and amplitude sensitivities of 12,000, 11,000, 10,000 nm/RIU and 478, 533, and 933 RIU−1, respectively, in the refractive index (RI) range of 1.33 to 1.40. The sensors also exhibit promising wavelength resolution of 8.33 × 10−6, 9.09 × 10−6, and 1.0 × 10−6 RIU, with figure of merit (FOM) of 108, 143, and 217 RIU−1 for RSC, MSC, and SSC PCFs, respectively. The tunable sensing performance is also observed in design structures due to controllable light traveling path and their interaction with analytes. The proposed alphabetic-core PCF SPR sensors would be a promising candidate for the application of light controlling, trapping in microscale environment, and biosensing.
