Metabolism of 4-3-H- and 4-14-C-17alpha-ethynylestradiol 3-methyl ether (mestranol) by women.

A mixture of 4-3-H and 4-14-C-mestranol was administered orally to four women. Reactions involving position 4 were no greater than 1.7-3% of the dose as measured by liberation of 3-H into body water. The extent of de-ethynylation in vivo was no greater than 1-2% of the dose as measured by urinary estrone metabolites. Mestranol (0.7 and 0.32% of the dose), 17alpha-ethynylestradiol (6.6 and 11.3%) and 2-hydroxy-17alpha-ethynylestradiol (0.64 and 0.7%) were identified as metabolite aglycons by reverse isotope dilution after Ketodase hydrolysis of the urine from two of the women.     

Transport of Abscisic Acid-2-C-14 in Intact Pea Seedlings

When abscisic acid-2-C-14 (AbA-2-C-14), 1 μg in 5 μl 40% ethanol, is applied to the apical bud of light-grown pea seedlings, C-14 is translocated downwards only in very small amounts and does not enter the root. In contrast to this, C-14 from indoleacetic acid-C-14 (IAA-2-C-14) applied in the same manner is translocated to the root where it accumulates. When AbA-2-C-14 is injected to the stem tissue at the apical bud, more labelled material is transported downwards than after application to the surface. Application of AbA-2-C-14 to an expanded leaf results in considerable accumulation of C-14 in the growing apical parts and in the lateral roots.     

Distribution of C-14 from glucose-1-C-14 in the lipid fractions of Debaryomyces hansenii

Bacteriol. 91:1831-1833. 1966.-Debaryomyces hansenii cells were grown in a medium containing yeast extract, malt extract, glucose, sodium chloride, and nutrient salts, to which glucose-1-C(14) was added. The lipids extracted from the cells were fractionated by use of a single column packed with silicic acid. Of the total C(14) added to the culture medium, the neutral lipid fractions contained 21.06% while the phospholipid portions contained only 0.89%. The highest amount of C(14) among the neutral lipids was found in the fraction containing the hydrocarbons (11.64%). Among the phospholipids, the highest amount (0.66%) was found in phosphatidyl serine and phosphatidyl ethanolamine.
