Seasonal dynamics of all major protozoan groups were investigated in the plankton of the River Danube, upstream of Budapest (Hungary), by bi-weekly sampling over a 1-year long period. Sixty-one heterotrophic flagellate, 14 naked amoeba, 50 testate amoeba, 4 heliozoan and 83 ciliate morphospecies were identified. The estimated abundance ranges of major groups throughout the year were as follows: heterotrophic flagellates, 0.27–7.8×106 ind. l?1; naked amoebae, max. 3300 ind. l?1; testaceans, max. 1600 ind. l?1; heliozoans, max. 8500 ind. l?1; ciliates, 132–34,000 ind. l?1. In terms of biovolume, heterotrophic flagellates dominated throughout the year (max. 0.58 mm3 l?1), and ciliates only exceeded their biovolume in summer (max. 0.76 mm3 l?1). Naked amoeba and heliozoan biovolume was about one, and testacean biovolume 1–3, orders of magnitude lower than that of ciliates. In winter, flagellates, mainly chrysomonads, had the highest biomass, whilst ciliates were dominated by peritrichs. In 2005 from April to July a long spring/summer peak occurred for all protozoan groups. Beside chrysomonads typical flagellates were choanoflagellates, bicosoecids and abundant microflagellates (large chrysomonads and Collodictyon). Most abundant ciliates were oligotrichs, while Phascolodon, Urotricha, Vorticella, haptorids, Suctoria, Climacostomum and Stokesia also contributed significantly to biovolume during rapid succession processes. In October and November a second high protozoan peak occurred, with flagellate dominance, and slightly different taxonomic composition.  相似文献

The seasonal and spatial distribution of abundance and biomass as well as the taxonomic composition of ciliates inhabiting the sandy hyporheic zone of a lowland stream were studied. The mean abundances varied between 0 and 895 cells ml−1 sediment, and the mean ciliate biomass ranged between 0 and 5.3 μg C ml−1 sediment. Ciliate numbers and biomasses were greatest at the sediment surface and declined significantly with increasing sample depth. Abundance and biomass varied seasonally, with maximum values in late autumn and early winter and minimum values in early summer. The community was dominated by small representatives of the Hymenostomatia and Peritrichia. Ciliate community composition changed with depth from a very diverse community at the sediment surface to a less diverse one at greater sediment depths. Ciliate abundance and biomass were two orders of magnitude lower in the channel water than in the hyporheic zone. Although representatives of all sediment taxa could also be found in the channel water, the greatest concentrations of Peritrichia and Suctoria were in the hyporheic zone. The species of the sandy Ladberger Mühlenbach sediment were ubiquitous; there was no single ciliate fauna that proved to be typical for this kind of freshwater biotope.  相似文献

We investigated the abundance and biomass of planktonic ciliates in the sea area around Zhangzi Island, Northern Yellow Sea, from July 2009 to June 2010. Ciliates were sampled monthly from surface to bottom with a 10 m depth interval at 13 sample stations along three transects. A 1 L sample of water from each depth was collected with a 2.5 L Niskin water sampler and fixed in 1% acid Lugol’s iodine solution. Water samples were pre-concentrated using the Utermöhl method and observed using an Olympus IX51 inverted microscope at 100× or 200x. The dimensions of the ciliates were measured and the cell volume of each species was estimated using appropriate geometric shapes. The carbon:volume ratio used to calculate biomass was 0.19 pg C/μm3. Abundance and biomass of the ciliate in water column were calculated as the integral of the abundance and biomass from bottom to surface, respectively. The classification of tintinnids was based on taxonomic literature. The average abundance of non-loricate ciliates was 3066 ± 2805 ind/L, ranging from 165 ind/L (50 m depth of St. B6 in July) to 26,595 ind/L (surface of St. C1 in September). The average biomass of non-loricate ciliates was 2.88 ± 2.68 μg C/L, ranging from 0.05 μg C/L (10 m depth of St. A6 in July) to 20.51 μg C/L (surface of St. A5 in August). The average tintinnid abundance was 142 ± 273 ind/L, ranging from 0 ind/L (monthly) to 2756 ind/L (surface of St. A1 in July). The average tintinnid biomass was 0.84 ± 2.19 μg C/L, ranging from 0.00 μg C/L (every month) to 37.64 μg C/L (20 m depth of St. C5 in July). The results showed that the average abundance of total ciliates was 3208 ± 2828 ind/L, ranging from 166 ind/L (10 m depth of St. A6 in July) to 26,625 ind/L (surface of St. C1 in September); the average biomass of total ciliates was 3.73 ± 3.55 μg C/L, ranging from 0.05 μg C/L (10 m depth of St. A6 in July) to 38.29 μg C/L (20 m depth of St. C5 in July). Abundance and biomass were vertically homogeneous in February, November and December, but decreased dramatically from the surface down to the bottom in other months. 23 tintinnid species were identified, 12 of which were in genus Tintinnopsis. Tintinnid species were more abundant in February, July and August. Tintinnids occupied 6.6 ± 10.2% and 19.7 ± 23.3% of the total ciliate abundance and biomass, respectively, which increased during the warm season and at coastal stations, and decreased during the cold season and at offshore stations. Large non-loricate ciliate species were prevalent in spring, while smaller species dominated in summer and autumn. The average abundance of total ciliates in water column was 132 ± 72 × 106 ind/m2, with increases during spring and autumn. The average biomass of total ciliates in water column was 152.57 ± 93.10 mg C/m2, with increases during spring and summer. The average abundance and biomass of total ciliates in water column were greater at offshore stations than at coastal stations during spring and autumn, and were lower during summer and winter. Non-loricate ciliates, tintinnids and total ciliates showed significant positive correlation with temperature and significant negative correlation with salinity (p < 0.01). Non-loricate ciliates and total ciliates showed significant positive correlation with Chl a concentration (p < 0.01); however, relationship between Chl a concentration and tintinnids was not significant.  相似文献

The study proposes methodological developments to optimize sampling strategy of resting cysts of Alexandrium catenella to estimate their abundance with a predefined error. This work also aims to provide information on spatial distribution of resting cysts in sediments. The distribution mode of A. catenella resting cysts related to the abundance variability was studied through sediment cores sampling on four different spatial scales and using Ludox CLX gradient density method. The quantification method underestimates by a factor of 2 the resting cysts abundance in one gram of sediment. Application of Taylor's power law allowed us to define a compromise between sampling effort and abundance estimation error. In the case of A. catenella resting cysts from Thau lagoon, the optimal sampling strategy consists of sampling 10 stations on a surface of 2 km2 for a given coefficient of variability (C) of 15%, sampling 3 sediment cores at each station (C = 30%) and counting only one replicate by core (C = 18%). Results related to the application of Taylor's power law are closely dependent on resting cyst density and aggregation in a given sediment. In our area, A. catenella resting cysts are mainly observed in the upper 3 cm of sediment. Horizontally, their heterogeneity is lower on 10 cm2 surface and tends to stabilize itself beyond a surface of 10 m2. Each author has to carry out this pre-sampling effort for his own resting cysts-forming species, in his own area, in order to increase accuracy of resting cyst mapping.  相似文献

Common reed (Phragmites australis) is a prominent species in the upstream part of the eutrophic Scheldt estuary (Belgium, The Netherlands). From 1996 till 1998, seasonal growth dynamics of the species were studied in two monospecific stands subjected to different salinity regimes (seasonal means 1.6 and 13.3 PSU, respectively). We addressed the following questions: how are these reed vegetations affected by meteorological conditions and by the growth site, what are the important growth processes and what is the fate of the annually fixed carbon. A mathematical model was developed and calibrated using the data from the oligohaline site. Subsequent application of the model to the mesohaline stand required adaptation of parameters relating to the partitioning of resources and timing of growth initiation only. At their peak, the aboveground biomass was 587–1678 g DW m−2 at the 13.3 PSU site and 1116–2179 g DW m−2 (1.6 PSU); more than 60% of the biomass was located underground. In 1996, biomasses were 2–3 times lower than in the other 2 years, caused by a retarded growth initiation. Probably due to a lower temperature in early 1996, rhizome bud burst occurred more than 1 month later compared to the other years. In addition, growth initiation was several weeks later in the mesohaline site. This appeared mainly responsible for the large difference in maximal aboveground biomass between both stations. Architecture of the plants was also affected, with a higher shoot density (about 50% more shoots), better-developed root system (15% of total belowground biomass compared to 5%) and more, but smaller leaves at the higher salinity site. Notwithstanding large differences in aboveground biomass, annual growth was similar at both stations (154 and 132 mol C m−2 per year at the oligo- and mesohaline station, respectively). Primary production accounted for about 80% of all growth processes, rhizome remobilization for almost 20%, translocation of mass before sloughing of leaves accounting about 3%. Within a year, some 44% (oligohaline) and 36% (mesohaline) of new assimilates produced by photosynthesis accumulated as dead litter. The other part was respired by the plant itself, either to provide the energy for growth (23%) or maintenance costs (33–41% at the oligo- and mesohaline station, respectively). Calculated annual turnover rates of aboveground biomass, rhizomes and roots were 100, 62 and 73%, respectively.  相似文献

The effect of salinity on leaf area and the relative accumulation of Na+ and K+ in leaves of the mangrove associate Hibiscus tiliaceus were investigated. Photosynthetic gas exchange characteristics were also examined under arid and non-arid leaf conditions at 0, 10, 20 and 30‰ substrate salinity. At salinities  40‰, plants showed complete defoliation followed by 100% mortality within 1 week. Salinities  30‰ were negatively correlated with the total leaf area per plant (r2 = 0.94). The reduction in the total plant leaf area is attributed to the reduction in the area of individual leaves (r2 = 0.94). Selective uptake of K+ over Na+ declined sharply with increasing salinity, where K+/Na+ ratio was reduced from 6.37 to 0.69 in plants treated with 0 and 30‰, respectively. Under non-arid leaf condition, increasing salinity from 0 to 30‰ has significantly reduced the values of the intrinsic components of photosynthesis Vc,max (from 50.4 to 18.4 μmol m−2 s-1), Jmax (from 118.0 to 33.8 μmol photons m−2 s−1), and VTPU (from 6.90 to 2.30 μmol m−2 s−1), while stomatal limitation to gas phase conductance (SL) increased from 14.6 to 38.4%. Water use efficiency (WUE) has subsequently doubled from 3.20 for the control plants to 8.93 for 30‰ treatment. Under arid leaf conditions, the stomatal factor (SL) was more limiting to photosynthesis than its biochemical components (73.4 to 26.6%, respectively, at 30‰). It is concluded that salinity causes a drastic decline in photosynthetic gas exchange in H. tiliaceus leaves through its intrinsic and stomatal components, and that the apparent phenotypic plasticity represented by the leaf area modulation is unlikely to be the mechanism by which H. tiliaceus avoids salt stress.  相似文献

Leaf production and population dynamics of Zostera japonica were examined at three elevations of an intertidal transect in Seungbongdo Island on the western coast of Korea. Morphometrics, shoot density, biomass, leaf production, reproductive effort and environmental factors were monitored from October 2001 to October 2002. Z. japonica grew well in the lower intertidal zone from 0.2 to 1.0 m above mean chart datum. The upper station (St. 1) exhibited a finer sediment grain size and richer organic content than the middle (St. 2) and lower stations (St. 3). The size of shoots and leaves was significantly greater at St. 1 than at St. 3, whereas the rhizome internodes were longer at St. 3. Despite differences in morphological characteristics among three stations, seagrass biomass and shoot density were not significantly different among study sites. Shoot density, biomass, morphometrics and leaf productivity exhibited clear seasonal variations, which varied along with seasonal changes of water and air temperature. Leaf productivity measured by the clip and reharvest method was highest in September (4.3 g DW m−2 d−1) and lowest in February (0.2 g DW m−2 d−1). Reproductive shoots rapidly increased to maximum density along with the high water temperature in July to September. In the intertidal zone, Z. japonica exhibited faster vegetative growth on muddy sand than on sand, probably due to the difference in nutrient supply. The seasonal changes of water and air temperature were considered to play an important role in the seasonal leaf growth of Z. japonica.  相似文献

The impact of flow velocity on initial ciliate colonization dynamics on surfaces were studied in the third order Ilm stream (Thuringia, Germany) at a slow flowing site (0.09 m s?1) and two faster flowing sites (0.31 m s?1) and in flow channels at 0.05, 0.4, and 0.8 m s?1. At the slow flowing stream site, surfaces were rapidly colonized by ciliates with up to 60 cells cm?2 after 24 h. In flow channels, the majority of suspended ciliates and inorganic matter accumulated at the surface within 4.5 h at 0.05 m s?1. At 0.4 m s?1 the increase in ciliate abundance in the biofilm was highest between 72 and 168 h at about 3 cells cm?2 h?1. Faster flow velocities were tolerated by vagile flattened ciliates that live in close contact to the surface. Vagile flattened and round filter feeders preferred biofilms at slow flow velocities. Addition of inorganic particles (0, 0.6, and 7.3 mg cm?2) did not affect ciliate abundance in flow channel biofilms, but small ciliate species dominated and number of species was lowest (16 species cm?2) in biofilms at high sediment content. Although different morphotypes dominated the communities at contrasting flow velocities, all functional groups contributed to initial biofilm communities implementing all trophic links within the microbial loop.  相似文献

A colpodean ciliate was found in the faeces of experimental rabbits. It was initially cultivated in medium mixed with 2% (w/v) rabbit faeces. Subsequently, two chemically defined media, designated CA-1 and CA-2, were found to be suitable for axenical cultivation of the ciliate. The maximum abundance of the ciliate isolate in the CA media was 1–2 × 105 cells/ml. The ciliate isolate was further identified with silver impregnation and molecular analysis. Features of the left oral polykinetid, somatic dikinetids, and sliverline pattern were similar to those of Colpoda aspera as described by Foissner (1993). The 18S small subunit ribosomal RNA gene of the ciliate isolate shared 99% sequence identity with that of C. aspera, with 100% coverage, and formed a sister clade in the phylogenetic tree with the reference C. aspera isolate. In addition, the trophozoite of C. aspera could proliferate over a temperature range from 25–37 °C. When resting cysts were cultivated in CA-1 medium at 30–35 °C, 98.2% of the trophozoites were detached from the cyst wall after 7 h.  相似文献

The effects of salinity on water relations and ion concentrations were investigated in seedlings of the mangroves Avicennia alba, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Heritiera littoralis and Xylocarpus granatum grown at salinities of 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 60‰. All four species survived and grew at salinities ranging from 0 to 40‰, but none survived at a salinity of 60‰. The concentration of sodium and chloride in the xylem sap increased with increasing salinity in both A. alba and B. gymnorrhiza. Sodium and chloride concentrations in the xylem sap of A. alba grown at 40‰ salinity both reached 114 mol m−3, about 15% of the external concentration around the roots. The xylem sap of B. gymnorrhiza grown at 40‰ salinity, by contrast, contained only 7.0 mol m−3 sodium and 4.1 mol m−3 chloride, about 1% of their concentrations in the external solution around the roots. The results indicated that B. gymnorrhiza, which does not have salt-secreting glands, was more effective at excluding salt than A. alba, which has salt-secreting glands.Analysis of pressure–volume curves showed that the bulk modulus of elasticity increased with increasing salinity. This was accompanied by a decrease in shoot water potential, mainly associated with a reduction in shoot osmotic potentials with increasing salinity. The decrease in osmotic potential was attributed to increasing solute concentrations, particularly sodium and chloride, in the leaves of all species except H. littoralis, which had little sodium and chloride in the leaves.  相似文献

An unarmored dinoflagellate bloom of Cochlodinium geminatum (Schütt) Schütt has been identified in the Pearl River Estuary, South China Sea during the severe dry season, from late October to early November, 2009, when temperature and salinity ranged between 20.0–27.2 °C and 10.6–33.4, respectively. Light and scanning electron microscopy were used to identify the characteristics of C. geminatum and provided the clear morphological structure for this species. The organism was primarily found in chains of two cells or single cell, and no longer chains were observed. Cells were irregularly spherical or slightly dorso-ventrally, with size ranged between 28 and 36 μm and longer than wide. A large nucleus in the center with numerous golden chloroplasts was present, and the cingulum made 1.5 turns around the cell. The concentration of C. geminatum ranged from 102 to greater than 107 cells l−1 during the bloom period. Nutrient concentration ranges during the bloom were 1.29–81.00 μM NO3, 0.14–12.14 μM NO2, 0.21–6.29 μM NH4, 0.23–6.26 μM PO4 and 3.29–171.43 μM SiO3, respectively. Total biomass expressed in terms of chlorophyll a ranged from 2.44 to 135.45 μg l−1, with an average 19.9 μg l−1 in surface water throughout the PRE. Two main clusters corresponding to the water sectors were defined with multivariate analysis (cluster and nMDS). Based on the composition and abundance of phytoplankton, spatial variations were observed at a significant level (ANOSIM, R = 0.44, P < 0.01). Although the pairwise correlation analysis detected no significant effect of any single environmental variable on the abundance of C. geminatum, the multivariate analysis (BIO-ENV) between biotic and abiotic variables resulted in the best variables combination with all measured factors involved (temperature, salinity, turbidity, NO3, NO2, NH4, PO4 and SiO3) which showed a combined effect during the bloom of C. geminatum in the Pearl River Estuary (ρw = 0.477).  相似文献

A strategy that optimization of medium compositions for maximum biomass followed by feeding of sucrose for maximum polysaccharide synthesis was developed for enhancing polysaccharide production in suspension culture of protocorm-like bodies (PLBs) of Dendrobium huoshanense C.Z. Tang et S.J. Cheng. In growth stage, the original half-strength MS medium was optimized with carbon sources, nitrogen sources and metal ion combinations. The effects of different carbon sources on PLBs growth were remarkable and sucrose at 35 g l−1 was the most suitable. Sole nitrate nitrogen of 30 mmol l−1 was the best for PLBs growth. Metal ions (Ca2+, Fe2+, Mn2+ and Zn2+) showed different influences on PLBs growth. The optimal concentration of Ca2+, Fe2+, Mn2+ and Zn2+ was 4.5 mmol l−1, 0.1 mmol l−1, 0.5 mmol l−1 and 0.06 mmol l−1, respectively. In the optimized medium (sucrose, nitrate, Ca2+, Fe2+, Mn2+ and Zn2+ concentration as described above, the other component concentration seen in half-strength MS), 33.9 g DW l−1 PLBs were harvested after 30 days of culture and biomass increase was improved 245% as compared with that in the original medium. In production stage, polysaccharide synthesis was significantly improved by the feeding sucrose. The maximum polysaccharide production (22 g l−1) was obtained in the case of 50 g l−1 sucrose feeding at day 30 of culture, which was about 109-fold higher than that in the original medium without feeding of sucrose.  相似文献

Live (Rose Bengal stained) benthic foraminifera were investigated in surface sediment samples from the Okhotsk Sea to reveal the relationship between faunal characteristics and environmental parameters. Live benthic foraminifera were quantified in the size fraction > 125 µm in the upper 8 cm of replicate sediment cores, recovered with a multicorer at five stations along the Sakhalin margin, and at three stations on the southwestern Kamchatka slope. The stations are from water depths between 625 to 1752 m, located close or within the present Okhotsk Sea oxygen minimum zone, with oxygen levels between 0.3 and 1.5 ml l- 1. At the high-productivity and ice-free Kamchatka stations, live benthic foraminifera are characterized by maximal standing stocks (about 1700-3700 individuals per 50 cm2), strong dominance of calcareous species (up to 87-91% of total live faunas), and maximal habitat depths (down to 5.2-6.7 cm depth). Vertical distributions of total faunal abundances exhibit a clear subsurface maximum in sediments. At the Sakhalin stations, which are seasonally ice-covered and less productive, live benthic foraminifera show lower standing stocks (about 200-1100 individuals per 50 cm2), lower abundance of calcareous species (10-64% of total live faunas), and shallower habitat depths (down to 2.5-5.4 cm depth). Faunal vertical distributions are characterized by maximum in the uppermost surface sediments. It is suggested that 1) lower and strongly seasonal organic matter flux, caused by the seasonal sea ice cover and seasonal upwelling, 2) lower bottom water oxygenation (0.3-1.1 ml l- 1), and 3) more pronounced influence of carbonate undersaturated bottom water along the Sakhalin margin are the main factors responsible for the observed faunal differences. According to species downcore distributions and average living depths, common calcareous species were identified as preferentially shallow, intermediate and deep infaunal. Foraminiferal microhabitat occupation correlates with the organic matter flux and the depth of the oxygenated layer in sediments.  相似文献

Cheese whey powder (CWP) solution with different CWP or sugar concentrations was fermented to ethanol in a continuous fermenter using pure culture of Kluyveromyces marxianus (DSMZ 7239). Sugar concentration of the feed CWP solution varied between 55 and 200 g l−1 while the hydraulic residence time (HRT) was kept constant at 54 h. Ethanol formation, sugar utilization and biomass formation were investigated as functions of the feed sugar concentration. Percent sugar utilization and biomass concentrations decreased and the effluent sugar concentration increased with increasing feed sugar concentrations especially for the feed sugar contents above 100 g l−1. Ethanol concentration and productivity (DP) increased with increasing feed sugar up to 100 g l−1 and then decreased with further increases in the feed sugar content. The highest ethanol concentration (3.7%, v v−1) and productivity (0.54 gE l−1 h−1) were obtained with the feed sugar content of 100 g l−1 or 125 g l−1. The ethanol yield coefficient (YP/S) was also maximum (0.49 gE gS−1) when the feed sugar was between 100 and 125 g l−1. The growth yield coefficient (YX/S) decreased steadily from 0.123 to 0.063 gX gS−1 when the feed sugar increased from 55 to 200 g l−1 due to adverse effects of high sugar contents on yeast growth. The optimal feed sugar concentration maximizing the ethanol productivity and sugar utilization was between 100 and 125 g l−1 under the specified experimental conditions.  相似文献

The intensification of agricultural land use and urbanisation has increased nutrient loads in aquatic ecosystems. Nitrogen loads can alter ecosystem structure and functioning, resulting in increased algal productivity, algal blooms and eutrophication. The principal aim of the present paper is to extend the use of epilithic δ15N signatures to a lake ecosystem in order to evaluate the potential impact of anthropogenic nitrogen discharges (organic and inorganic) that can also reach coastal waters.Epilithic associations were collected from volcanic rocks in different seasons in shallow water along the entire perimeter of Lake Bracciano and analysed for their nitrogen stable isotope signatures. Furthermore, some stones were moved from an unpolluted site to a polluted one in order to verify the effect on the nitrogen signature of the epilithic association. The epilithon’s δ15N signatures provided strong evidence of the space-time variability of N inputs. The differing quality of nitrogen loads was reflected in high isotopic variation within the lake, especially at the beginning of summer (1.7‰  δ15N  13.3‰), while in winter, when anthropogenic pressure was lowest, the δ15N signature variation was less accentuated (3.1‰  δ15N  7.6‰). At all sampling times, spatial variability was found to be related to the various human activities along the lake shore (especially tourism and agriculture), while seasonal variation at all sampling sites was related to the intensity of anthropogenic pressures (higher in summer and lower in winter). Our results showed that epilithic algal associations and the physicochemical properties of the water did not influence the δ15N signature, which in contrast was strongly related to the site-specific effect of human activities around the lake. Thus, the distribution of δ15N across space and time can be used to direct nutrient reduction strategies in the region and can assist in monitoring the effectiveness of environmental protection measures.  相似文献

Lake Taihu, which is the third largest freshwater lakes in China, is a hypertrophic shallow lake in eastern China that has experienced lake-wide cyanobacterial blooms annually during the last few decades. In this study, quantitative real-time PCR assays targeting on phycocyanin intergenic spacer (PC-IGS) and a microcystin synthetase gene mcyD were established, respectively. Water samples collected from eight sampling sites (including Zhushan Bay (N5), Meiliang Bay (N2), Gonghu Bay (N4), West lake areas (W2 and W4), south-middle lake areas (S2, S4 and S5)) in August of 2009 and 2010 were analyzed using real time PCR for the distribution and abundance of toxic and total Microcystis populations. The results showed that Microcystis exists as a mixed population of potential toxic and non-toxic genotypes, and there was significant spatial changes in the abundance of potential toxic Microcystis on the basis of quantification by quantitative real-time PCR analysis: the abundance of toxic Microcystis population in 2009 and 2010 varied from 4.08 × 104 to 8.28 × 106 copies mL?1, from 4.45 × 105 to 5.22 × 107 copies mL?1, respectively. Meanwhile the ratio of the mcyD subpopulation to the total Microcystis varied considerably, from 5.7% to 41.1% in 2009 and from 10.3% to 65.8% in 2010 in all sampling sites, and the value is high in Zhushan Bay and Meiliang Bay with the high level of eutrophication. Correlation analysis showed the abundance of toxic and total Microcystis being strongly related (P < 0.01). However, there is different effects of environmental factors on the abundance of toxic and non-toxic Microcystis populations. The abundance of toxic and total Microcystis populations were positively correlated with chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) concentration (P < 0.01) suggesting that Microcystis is dominated genera of cyanobacterial bloom in Lake Taihu. It was also found that the abundance of toxic Microcystis and the proportion of toxic subpopulation to the total Microcystis were positively correlated with total phosphorus and orthophosphate concentrations (P < 0.01), whereas there was no significant correlation with total nitrogen and nitrate concentration (P > 0.05). All data suggest that phosphorus concentration is a critical factor for determining the abundance of toxic Microcystis population.  相似文献

Arbutus unedo seedlings were grown in a greenhouse and submitted to three irrigation treatments (salinity period) using solutions with an EC of 0.85 dS m?1 (control treatment), 5.45 dS m?1 (S1) and 9.45 dS m?1 (S2). After 16 weeks, growth and ornamental characters, leaf water potentials, gas exchange and ion concentrations were determined. After the salinity period, plants were exposed to a relief period for 1 month, whereby half of the plants were transplanted to field conditions and the other half into 24 cm diameter plastic pots. Salinity induced a significant decrease in shoot biomass and leaf area but root/shoot ratio was increased. Plant height was significantly inhibited by salinity. The ornamental characters were affected in the treated plants, with symptoms of salt injury, such as burning of leaf margin. Leaf water potentials decreased with increasing salinity, more significantly at predawn than at midday. The relationship between net photosynthesis (Pn) and leaf conductance (gl) was linear for all treatments and the same values of Pn are associated with lower values of gl for the saline treatments than for control treatment. The concentration of Cl? in leaves increased with increasing salinity and was higher than the corresponding concentration of Na+. Na+ and Cl? contents were higher in the leaves than in the roots in both saline treatments. The K+ and Ca2+ levels were lower in the treated plants than in control plants and applied salinity reduced the K+/Na+ ratio in leaves, stems and roots, the decrease being much greater for leaves than for roots. The Ca2+/Na+ ratio fell with salinity in all parts of the plants. At the end of the relief period leaf water potentials were recovered mainly in field conditions. S2 treatment showed lower values of Pn and gl than control and S1 treatments in pot conditions and in field conditions S1 showed the lowest values for Pn and gl.  相似文献

Spent coffee grounds (SCG) represent the main coffee industry residues with a great potential to be reutilized in various biotechnological processes. In this study, several carotenogenic yeasts strains were exploited for the production of vitamin-enriched biomass, cultivating in SCG-based media. The fermentation was firstly carried out in Erlenmeyer flasks in order to select the best biomass and pigment producer. Among four tested strains, Sporobolomyces roseus showed the highest potential for the accumulation of carotenoids. Maximum pigment concentration and yield was obtained when cultivating in SCG-based media, 12.59 mg l−1 and 1.26 mg g−1, respectively. Comparing both, the batch and the fed-batch cultivation modes, the strategy of sequential addition of pre-concentrated SCG media in the bioreactor gave higher biomass yield (maximum 41 g l−1 during 41–48 h after the beginning of fermentation). Thus, SCG can be considered as potentially promising industrial waste stream for economically feasible production of enriched yeasts biomass.  相似文献
