Juvenile whitefish, Coregonus lavaretus (L.), wet weight 0.04 to 5.2 g, from Lake Constance were kept at 10, 12 and 16° C water temperature, respectively and fed with living zooplankton. The experimental duration lasted 72 to 120 h. Daily rations were defined as the amount of zooplankton remaining subtracted from the amount of zooplankton added after a 24 h interval. The mortality of the zooplankton was determined in parallel experiments without fish. Relative daily ration (zooplankton weight/fish weight) v. fish weight increased up to a fish dry weight of approximately 0.12 g and then decreased steadily. The maximum daily ration was about 270% of fish body wet weight (wet/wet) corresponding to 75% of body dry weight (dry/dry), respectively. In fishes of a dry weight higher than 0.12 g (wet weight 0.65 g) a significant difference in food intake was found between 12 and 16° C. The specific growth rate ranged from nearly 0 up to 33% per day. No correlation was found between daily ration and specific growth rate.  相似文献

2006年6-7月在新疆伊犁地区对伊犁河干流、三大支流(特克斯河、巩乃斯河和喀什河)、恰甫其海水库、吉林台水库、间歇性水体和小水塘中的浮游动物进行了调查.共鉴定浮游动物134属217种,其中原生动物95属153种, 占浮游动物物种数的71%;轮虫27属51种, 占23%;枝角类7属8种,占4%;桡足类5属5种,占2%.伊犁河干流、小水塘和间歇性水体浮游动物种类数较多,分别达132、114和92种,吉林台水库种类数最少,仅7种.浮游动物密度和生物量均以恰甫其海水库最高, 分别为11 391 ind·L-1和2.79 mg·L-1,特克斯河密度最低,为578 ind·L-1,喀什河生物量最低,为0.03 mg·L-1.相关分析和一元线性回归分析表明,浮游动物种类数与水体的流速呈显著负相关.采用种类数、密度和生物量对伊犁河干流、三大支流及两个水库的水质状况进行评价表明,伊犁河、特克斯河、喀什河、巩乃斯河为寡营养水体,恰甫其海水库和吉林台水库为中营养水体.  相似文献

Synopsis In this study we investigate the effect of food availability (zooplankton biomass) on the growth of Odontesthes bonariensis (Atherinidae) larvae. The larvae were stocked in four 45 m2 outdoor tanks at relatively high densities (100 and 200 larvae m–2). Because of the high stocking densities, the zooplankton biomass was depleted in all tanks. However, the patterns of food limitation, and particularly periods of severe food shortage, differed in tanks stocked at different densities. We could therefore, observe the effect of food limitation in larvae that differed in weight and age. The effects of variables suspected to influence O. bonariensis growth rates (age and weight of larvae, available zooplankton biomass, mean individual weight of available preys, total ingested prey weight, and mean weight of ingested preys) were investigated using standard multiple regression methods, and a model assuming: (1) an allometric relationship between maximum growth rates and weight of larvae, and (2) an inverse relationship between growth depression and the available zooplankton biomass. Both methods were consistent in showing that only the weight of larvae, and the availability of zooplankton prey had significant effects on the growth of O. bonariensis. The model's results additionally suggest that, if the observed growth rates are scaled by the maximum growth rate corresponding to the larva weight, the effect of zooplankton biomass is largely independent of age and weight of larvae.  相似文献

The daily ration of vendace larvae (mean TL 10·1–12·8 mm) was assessed after a time-intensive field survey in Lake Lentua. Ten larvae were sampled every 2 h throughout the 10-day sampling period and their alimentary tract contents analysed. The gut was cut into four quarters of equal length and each quarter was analysed separately. This procedure enabled the assessment of the proportions of different zooplankton taxa in the diet based on the least degraded first-quarter contents and to reconstruct the entire gut contents. Secondly, the gut passage time of ingested zooplankton was evaluated by comparing the degradation rate of zooplankton in the guts of experimentally fasted larvae to the degradation of zooplankton in the gradient from pharynx to anus among the larvae sampled from the lake. Finally, food consumption was calculated as zooplankton individuals and carbon biomass based on the two variables, gut passage time of constantly feeding larvae and reconstructed gut contents. The daily ration of vendace larvae varied between 14 and 450 zooplankters in the monitored period.  相似文献

Growth of pike larvae: effects of prey, turbidity and food quality   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We studied experimentally the effects of turbidity and prey composition on pike larval growth and hypothesized that pike larval growth varies with turbidity and food quality. We reared the first-feeding pike larvae (Esox lucius) in laboratory tanks with (1) clear or (2) turbid water provided with zooplankton rations from (3) an inner and (4) an outer archipelago site. The sites differ in physical features, salinity, eutrophication status, zooplankton community structure and density. Pike larvae showed the highest weight increase in clear water with zooplankton from the outer site and the poorest weight increase in turbid water with zooplankton as prey from the inner site. Our fatty acid analysis revealed that unsaturated fatty acid levels were highest in the outer site. The relative percentage of copepods was also higher in the outer site. This study supports the hypothesis that turbidity weakens the ability of pike larvae to capture certain prey. Further, zooplankton community composition matters in turbid water, but is not a primary factor in clear water.  相似文献

Intensive culture of grass carp and hybrid grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella x Aristichthys nobilis ) larvae was conducted under Florida (U.S.A.) conditions. The influence of different rearing facilities (indoor tanks, outdoor tanks and cages) and different methods of fish feeding using live zooplankton and artificial food was tested. High survival (86–100%) and satisfactory grass carp growth (47–56 mg) were obtained in the outdoor tanks and cages during the 10–day experiment. It is believed, that the technique described can be used after some improvements for commercial–scale grass carp larvae rearing. Low survival (1–3%) was obtained in the hybrid culture experiment even though satisfactory growth rates (84–212 mg) were obtained after 13 days. High mortality was attributed to genetic abnormalities caused by hybridization. The hybrid does not appear to be a promising fish for culture.  相似文献

The Faroe shelf water is separated from the offshore water by a persistent tidal front, which surrounds the islands. This shelf water contains a neritic zooplankton community, which, regarding species composition, production, seasonal development and environmental conditions, is quite different from that in the surrounding ocean. While during spring and summer the zooplankton in the oceanic environment are dominated by the copepod Calanus finmarchicus, the zooplankton in the shelf water are largely dominated by neritic copepods, mainly Acartia longiremis and Temora longicornis. Calanus finmarchicus occurs in interannually highly variable abundance in the Faroe shelf ecosystem. Meroplanktonic larvae, mainly Balanus spp, and decapod larvae, are also common in the shelf water during spring and summer. During the period presented (1989-1997), the Faroe shelf ecosystem has undergone very large changes in abundance of different zooplankton species. The midsummer abundance of C.finmarchicus, which originally is advected into the shelf from the open ocean, fluctuated from 400 copepods m-3 in 1989 to 25 copepods m-3 in 1994, and at the same time the neritic zooplankton increased from 120 m-3 in 1989 to 450 m-3 in 1994. Consequently, the midsummer biomass in the shelf fluctuated by a factor of 10 during the same period. It is presumed that this variability between oceanic- and neritic-dominated zooplankton, their sizes and their biomass has greatly affected the entire pelagic ecosystem.   相似文献

Synopsis Food consumption of perch larvae and the impact of this on zooplankton were examined in two adjacent shallow Scottish lochs. Maximum annual abundance of zooplankton occurred in mid-May at L. Kinord with minimum values in mid-June. Copepods were prominent in spring but were followed by a multi-species community of cladocerans and rotifers in summer. At L. Davan zooplankton biomass remained high through summer with cladocerans dominating andDaphnia longispina the most frequent species. Availability of food items was a principal factor governing feeding behaviour of larvae. Copepodite stages were initially the most common item in the diet in L. Kinord in 1976 and 1977 and rotifers the principal food in June 1977, reflecting the dominance of these items in the zooplankton. Cladocerans were dominant in the plankton community in L. Davan and constituted the greater part of food intake. Overlying this general pattern there was an increase in the size of food items taken by larvae with time and also a definite pattern of food selection for copepods, with initially selection for smaller copepodite stages and later for larger stages and adults. On most occasions larvae selected forCyclops strenuus abyssorum andPolphemus pediculus and selected againstDaphnia longispina. The reduction in the total zooplankton biomass attributed to perch larvae was minimal, with the exception of mid-June at L. Kinord in 1976. However, predation on particular species and copepodite stages was occasionally intense and may have impacted the zooplankton populations.  相似文献

We studied the physiological response of Pseudocalanus sp. under four different temperature elevation regimes: +0, +2, +4 and +6 °C above the decadal average temperature in the Western Baltic Sea. We measured fecal pellet (FP) production rates, which was taken as a proxy of ingestion, egg production (EPR) and respiration rates. Experiments lasted from mid‐February to end April, corresponding most of the observations to the postspring bloom phase. We combined small scale incubations with the use of big (ca. 1400 L) mesocosms, which have previously been shown to be appropriate when studying phyto‐ and zooplankton succession, and the water used for the incubations was taken from the mesocosm tanks. Given that the phytoplankton succession varied between the four thermal scenarios, we evaluated (excepting in the case of the respiration rates, where incubations were carried out using 0.2 μm filtered water) both the temperature and the associated food concentration effects. Respiration and ingestion rates were found to increase with temperature. As for EPR, they also increased with temperature during the bloom, but remained at low and constant values during the postbloom in all the four treatments due to the food limitation. Linked to the temperature rise, we also detected an increase in instantaneous mortality rates and a reduction in the net growth efficiency. Finally, we discuss the potential implications of our findings for the spring phyto‐ and zooplankton succession under the forecasted climate warming, as well as for the fisheries in the Baltic Sea, where Pseudocalanus sp. is a key species.  相似文献

分别于2017年10月和2018年6月对渭河流域内12个采样点的浮游动物种类、物种密度、生物量和水温、电导率、溶解氧浓度和pH等水质指标进行调查, 并利用生物多样性指数法对水质进行评价。结果显示, 共鉴定出57种浮游动物(原生动物11种、轮虫33种、枝角类7种、桡足类6种)。优势种为萼花臂尾轮虫Brachionus calyciflorus。枯水期浮游动物密度变化范围在0.72—7.84 ind./L, 平均密度为(2.79±2.11) ind./L; 浮游动物生物量为0.38—6.15 mg/L, 平均生物量为(2.31±2.64) mg/L; CCA分析表明, 水温、溶解氧、海拔和电导率与渭河流域浮游动物群落结构有明显的相关性; Shannon-Wiener多样性指数、Margalef丰富度指数分别为1.07、0.69。丰水期浮游动物密度变化范围在0—179.02 ind./L, 平均密度为(16.66±49.18) ind./L; 浮游动物生物量0—2448.12 mg/L, 平均生物量为(243.96±673.78) mg/L; Shannon-Wiener多样性指数Margalef丰富度指数分别为0.78、1.15。依据浮游动物种类密度和多样性指数对水质进行评价, 结果为渭河水系北道、林家村为中度污染, 魏家堡为重度污染, 咸阳、临潼、华县为轻度污染; 泾河水系杨家坪、雨落坪、张家山为中度污染; 北洛河水系刘家河、交口河、状头为中度污染。  相似文献

Understanding the mechanisms that facilitate establishment of non-indigenous species is imperative for devising techniques to reduce invasion rates. Passively dispersing non-indigenous organisms, including zooplankton, seemingly invade constructed waters (e.g., ornamental ponds, dams and reservoirs) at faster rates than natural lakes. A common attribute of these invaded water bodies is their relatively young age, leading to the assertion that low biotic resistance may lead to their higher vulnerability. Our aim was to determine if seeding of young water bodies with sediments containing diapausing stages of native zooplankton could accelerate community development, leading to greater biotic resistance to the establishment of new species. Twenty outdoor tanks were filled with water (1,400 L) and nutrients added to attain eutrophic conditions. Ten treatment tanks had sediments added, sourced from local water bodies. In the remaining ten, sediments were autoclaved, and received zooplankton via natural dispersal only. In an initial 12 month monitoring period, species richness increased at a greater rate in the treatment tanks (at 12 months average standing richness per tank = 3.8, accumulated richness = 8.2) than control tanks (2.6 and 5.0, P < 0.05). Treatment tanks developed assemblages with greater proportions of species adapted to pelagic conditions, such as planktonic cladocerans and copepods, while control tanks generally comprised of smaller, littoral dwelling, rotifers. Analysis of similarities indicated community composition differed between the control and treatment groups at 12 months (P < 0.01). Two copepod, four rotifer and one cladoceran species were intentionally added to tanks at 12 months. In the 3 month post-introduction period, five of these species established populations in the control tanks, while only two species established in the treatment tanks. The calanoid copepod Skistodiaptomus pallidus, for example, a non-indigenous species confined to constructed waters in New Zealand, established exclusively in tanks where native calanoid copepod species were absent (primarily control tanks). Our study suggests that biotic resistance could play an important role in reducing the establishment rate of non-indigenous zooplankton. It also provides evidence that seeding constructed water bodies with sediments containing diapausing eggs of native species may provide an effective management tool to reduce establishment rates of non-indigenous zooplankton.  相似文献

Burbot Lota lota L. is one of the endangered freshwater fish species in western Europe for which the development of controlled larval rearing procedures could produce enough material for stock enhancement. The suitability of the freshwater rotifer Brachionus calyciflorus as a start food for larviculture of burbot was investigated. After yolk‐absorption, the larvae were stocked in 40‐L tanks under different feeding conditions: clear water rearing conditions with rotifers (Brachionus calyciflorus) for 10 days (R), green water conditions (Chlorella sp.) with rotifers offered for 10 days (MALR), green water conditions (Chlorella sp.) for 3 days followed by clear water in combination with rotifer feeding for 7 days (AL3R), and clear water conditions with Artemia nauplii offered for 10 days (Art). After the 10‐day feeding, all groups received Artemia nauplii up to 35 days post‐hatching. Larval survival was counted at day 10 and at the end of the 35‐day rearing experiment. At day 35, a significant survival difference was noted between the groups where rotifers were supplemented with algae vs only Artemia. At the end of the experiment, the highest survival rate (69.20%) was obtained with larvae receiving only algae in the first 3 days of feeding. Lowest survival rate (24.90%) was obtained with larvae receiving only Artemia for 35 days. This indicates that smaller prey are essential for burbot at first feeding. Larval length and wet weight were measured at the time of mouth opening, at days 7, 10, and 21, and at the end of the experiment (day 35). On day 35, mean length of the larvae varied significantly between the treatments. However, the final wet weight of the larvae did not vary significantly between the treatments.  相似文献

Terrestrial support of aquatic food webs is becoming well established in the science of ecology. However, while terrestrial subsidies of energy have been shown to exert strong effects on aquatic food webs, it is less clear how variations in these subsidies, via natural or anthropogenic factors, will affect recipient ecosystems. To assess the influence of variations in terrestrial subsidies on an aquatic food web, we manipulated leaf-litter inputs in artificial ponds. Decreasing litter inputs did not affect any of the response variables in artificial ponds. This may be because the minimal amount of terrestrial carbon present combined with autochthonous production was enough to sustain the food web and/or the food web was altered in ways not detected by the experimental design. However, increasing leaf-litter inputs increased the percent survival and developmental rate of larval wood frogs (Rana sylvatica). Conversely, increasing litter input appeared to have no influence on zooplankton or salamander larvae. Increasing litter inputs also increased the dissolved organic carbon content and decreased the percent saturation of dissolved oxygen in artificial ponds. As system respiration in aquatic systems is frequently dominated by microbial respiration, we hypothesize that the effects of increasing litter input on wood frogs were the result of an increase food resources (i.e., microbes) for tadpoles. The lack of a response by salamander larvae and zooplankton may be due to the densities of zooplankton in tanks providing enough food for salamanders in all treatments, variation among specific zooplankton species in their ability to exploit these resources and transfer energy to salamanders, or omnivory among zooplankton offsetting the affects of leaf-litter inputs. Additional work is needed to determine the influence of litter inputs on zooplankton and salamanders in this community. These data demonstrate that variations in leaf-litter inputs can influence food web structure; however, the importance of these variations will likely be dependent upon the trophic position of various consumers. The naturally-derived insecticide spinosad (Conserve SC) was evaluated against larval Culex pipiens L. (Diptera: Culicidae) under laboratory and field conditions in Antalya, Turkey. Laboratory bioassays showed that the 24 h LC50 and LC90 against late 3rd and early 4th instars were estimated at 0.027 and 0.111 parts per million, respectively, while adult emergence was eliminated at concentrations above 0.06 ppm. Larval mortality from septic tanks that were treated with spinosad at rates of 25, 50, 100, and 200 g ai/ha ranged between 22 to 78% 1 day after application. At 7 days post-treatment, larval mortality ranged from 2 to 50% and at 14 days mortality was <10% for all treatments. Larval bioassays of the water from those septic tanks treated at 100 and 200 g ai/ha resulted in an elimination of Cx. pipiens larvae 7 days after treatment. After this time, larval reduction declined to 79 and 83%, respectively, 14 days after treatment. Larval reduction in septic tanks treated at the two lowest rates (i.e. 25 and 50 g ai/ha) ranged from 14 to 74% during the 14-day study. These results indicated that spinosad can be considered an effective larvicide for treatment of septic tanks against Cx. pipiens.  相似文献

为探究虾稻综合种养(integrated crayfish-rice co-culture,ICRC)系统浮游动物的群落结构特征及其主要影响因素,对潜江市典型ICRC稻田渔沟和田面水体的浮游动物进行了季度研究,并分析了浮游动物和浮游植物、水体理化因子之间的相关性。结果显示:(1)共采集浮游动物60种,分别包含原生动物、轮虫、枝角类和桡足类12、28、10、10种(属),其中,优势类群为剑水蚤目无节幼体、桡足幼体以及蚤状溞(Daphnia pulex);Shannon-Wiener指数、Margalef指数和Pielou指数的年均值分别为1. 48、3. 42和0. 55;(2)浮游动物密度和生物量的变化范围分别为7. 65~1309. 50 ind./L、0. 08~50. 04 mg/L,年均值分别为360. 0 ind./L、17. 45 mg/L,桡足类和枝角类在密度和生物量上均占有绝对优势;(3)浮游动物物种数、多样性指数(田面除外)、密度和生物量均表现出明显的季节差异,其中密度和生物量在春季显著最高,相关性分析表明浮游动物物种数和资源量主要受总磷、浮游植物密度与生物量的影响;(4)浮游动物的物种数、多样性、密度和生物量在渔沟和田面两种生境间无明显差异。本研究表明ICRC系统中有丰富的大型浮游动物资源未得到利用,同时鉴于浮游动物可作为小龙虾早期生活史阶段的食物来源,需进一步研究秋冬季浮游动物变化,以及如何培育和合理利用此阶段的浮游动物以促进幼虾生长、提高存活率。  相似文献

Shrimp hatcheries often face problems of mortality caused by diseases. To understand the bacteriological status of shrimp, Penaeus monodon Fabricius, hatcheries in India, a study of hatchery water at different points was conducted in several hatcheries located along the east and west coast of India. The species composition of the bacterial flora was also determined. The total plate counts of raw sea water on tryptic soya agar ranged from 102 to 104 ml–1, whereas it ranged from 104 to 106 ml–1 in larval tanks. In the larval tanks, the proportion of Vibrio species ranged from 50% to 73%, as compared to 31% in raw sea water. A mixed bacterial flora was observed in hatchery water; however, in the larval tanks, the flora in the larvae was predominantly made up of Vibrio species. A few of the tested Vibrio isolates were non-virulent to shrimp larvae under experimental conditions. Over 90% of the strains were resistant to amoxycillin, ampicillin, cephalexin, cephazolin, cloxacillin and sulphafurazole. Most strains showed sensitivity to tetracycline, chloramphenicol, and quinolones such as norfloxacin and ciprofloxacin.  相似文献

Synopsis The relationships between food availability, consumption and growth were analyzed from the onset of feeding to an age of 90 days in three cyprinid species. Fish were held at 20 ± 0.5° C and given two (three) constant rations of approximately 30, (40) or 100% dry body weight (dbw) ind-1 day-1. Food consisted of living zooplankton, the size of which correlated with fish size. At high food densities consumption rates decreased rapidly with fish size in all three species. At reduced rations, fish consumed most of the food offered until they were larger than 10 mg dbw. In all species and at each feeding level daily rations consumed increased allometrically with body size. Respiration rate, expressed as routine metabolic rate differed insignificantly between the three species. At high ration levels, growth rates of small bleak, Alburnus alburnus, were distinctly lower than those of roach, Rutilus rutilus, and blue bream, Abramis ballerus. At low food supply all three species grew at similar rates. Assimilation efficiency at low food conditions was approximately twice that of the well-fed groups. If the caloric equivalents of oxygen consumption as measured in well-fed fish are applied to fish fed at low rations their energy budgets do not balance. This indicates the limitations of fish larvae in the partitioning of energy for growth or activity at such conditions.  相似文献

The objectives of this study were to test whether freeze-dried microalgae are nutritionally adequate for rearing rotifers as food for gilthead seabream larvae. The elemental composition (C, N, H) and fatty acid composition were analysed in larvae of gilthead seabream, Sparus aurata L., rotifers Brachionus plicatilis and Brachionus rotundiformis and freeze-dried microalgae Nannochloropsis oculata. Four larval feeding treatments were tested: (A) larvae fed rotifers cultivated with freeze-dried microalgae and daily addition of freeze-dried microalgae to the larval tanks; (B) larvae fed rotifers cultivated with freeze-dried microalgae and daily addition of live microalgae to the larval tanks; (C) larvae fed rotifers cultivated with freeze-dried microalgae, without addition of microalgae to the larval tank and (D) larvae fed rotifers cultivated with live microalgae and daily addition of live microalgae to the larval tanks. No significant differences were observed between the biochemical composition of larvae with treatment A (with freeze-dried microalgae) and the composition of larvae in treatment D that were obtained with the acceptable methods for culture systems (with live microalgae).  相似文献

Growth patterns and food composition of perch, Perca fluviatilis L., was studied in two small forest lake populations in southern Finland. Size and morphometry of the lakes and physical and chemical properties of water are similar. There is a clear difference in the growth rates of perch between the two lakes. The difference in growth is highly significant in all age groups. In the first lake there is a perch population of 2 000 (1750 ind · ha–1) adult fishes. In the second lake there is a small population of pike, that keeps the perch population down: 200 adult perch (530 ind · ha-1). The main food items of perch are crustacean zooplankton, Asellus aquaticus L. and Trichoptera larvae in the first lake and zooplankton, Odonata larvae, Ephemeroptera larvae and Heteroptera in the second.It is concluded that the main reason for the growth difference of studied perch populations is the different population density. There are also differences in species composition of bottom fauna of the lakes, maybe owing to the floating Sphagnum peat moss vegetation in the second lake. This can also affect the growth difference between the two populations of perch.  相似文献

Cryopreservation of sperm in Brazilian migratory fish conservation   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Simple, effective protocols for cryopreserving milt of five Brazilian migratory characids ( Brycon orbignyanus , Prochilodus lineatus , Piaractus mesopotamicus , Salminus maxillosus and Leporinus elongatus ) and one Brazilian migratory catfish ( Pseudoplatystoma corruscans ) are described. Milt was frozen and stored in dry shippers immediately after collection, making the procedure practical for use in the field. A diluent of 5% glucose, 10% dimethyl sulphoxide and 10% egg yolk was effective for all of the characid species, and a diluent of 10% methanol and 15% powdered milk was effective for P. corruscans . Milt was thawed in an ambient temperature water bath (28–30° C). Activation of thawed milt was effective with either saline (0·9 or 0·45% NaCl) or bicarbonate (1% NaHCO3). Fertilization rates with frozen milt varied between 49 and 300% of the control. Application of the technology for increasing genetic diversity in hatchery programmes for enhancement, mitigation or conservation breeding is discussed, as is its application in aquaculture. Inappropriate use of the technology can threaten wild biodiversity and appropriate legislation and education may be required for its responsible use.  相似文献
