Eighty male college students each listened to monaural music that was intended to cause either positive-valence emotions (e.g., happiness) or negative-valence emotions (e.g., unhappiness). When the music was to the left ear, subjects' finger temperature changes during the music correlated significantly with the subjects' ratings of the valence of the emotions they experienced during the music. When the music was to the right ear, finger temperature changes were not different during positive- versus during negative-valence music, and the subjective reports did not correlate significantly with the finger temperature changes. The results are interpreted as indicating that the extent to which males' autonomic responses, such as finger temperature changes, reflect the emotional state of the subject depends upon which cerebral hemisphere is more involved in the processing of the emotion-generating stimulus. Theoretical and practical aspects of this finding are discussed.  相似文献

The hypothesis that excitation energy distribution between PS I and PS II is controlled by the redox state of the plastoquinone pool between the two photosystems was investigated using the green alga Chlorella vulgaris. Changes in the redox state of the pool were monitored by measurement of the area above the fluorescence induction curve on exposure to high-intensity light. In agreement with the hypothesis, exposure of state I adapted cells to light preferentially absorbed by PS II led to a reduction of the plastoquinone pool whilst exposure of State II adapted cells to light preferentially absorbed by PS I resulted in its oxidation. However, the limits within which these fluctuations occurred were much narrower than anticipated. The reasons for this are discussed in terms of the possible involvement of changes in the redox state of more specialised molecules associated with the main plastoquinone pool and the postulated role of plastoquinone as an electron shuttle between the two photosystems.  相似文献

The intensity of neural-emotional stress was studied in students to be examined. It was determined by the P/T index and considerably varied under the influence of different factors. These comprised final and course examinations, suggested examinational situations, physical fitness, the students' progress, the first and subsequent examinations, the students' educational time record, sexual differences, stages of the examinational period and the nature of students' reply. The neuro-emotional stress and change in its intensity under the influence of the above factors apparently represent the student's adaptation to the examinational situation.  相似文献

A definite and characteristic relationship exists between growth temperature, fatty acid composition and the fluidity and physical state of the membrane lipids in wild type Bacillus stearothermophilus. As the environmental temperature is increased, the proportion of saturated fatty acids found in the membrane lipids is also markedly increased with a concomitant decrease in the proportion of unsaturated and branched chain fatty acids. The temperature range over which the gel to liquid-crystalline membrane lipid phase transition occurs is thereby shifted such that the upper boundary of this transition always lies near (and usually below) the temperature of growth. This organism thus possesses an effective and sensitive homeoviscous adaptation mechanism which maintains a relatively constant degree of membrane lipid fluidity over a wide range of environmental temperatures. A mutant of B. stearothermophilus which has lost the ability to increase the proportion of relatively high melting fatty acids in the membrane lipids, and thereby increase the phase transition temperature in response to increases in environmental temperature, is also unable to grow at higher temperatures. An effective homeoviscous regulatory mechanism thus appears to extend the growth temperature range of the wild type organism and may be an essential feature of adaptation to temperature extremes. Over most of their growth temperature ranges the membrane lipids of wild type and temperature-sensitive B. stearothermophilus cells exist entirely or nearly entirely in the liquid-crystalline state. Also, the temperature-sensitive mutant is capable of growth at temperatures well above those at which the membrane lipid gel to liquid-crystalline phase transition is completed. Therefore, although other evidence suggests the existence of an upper limit on the degree of membrane fluidity compatible with cell growth, the phase transition is completed. Similarly, the lower boundary does not determine the minimum growth temperature, since cell growth ceases at a temperature at which most of the membrane lipid still exists in a fluid state. These observations do not support the suggestion made in an earlier study, which utilized electron spin resonance spectroscopy to monitor membrane lipid lateral phase separations, that the minimum and maximum growth temperatures of this organism might directly be determined by the solid-fluid membrane lipid phase transition boundaries. Evidence is presented here that the electron spin resonance techniques used previously did not in fact detect the gel to liquid-crystalline phase transition of the bulk membrane lipids, which, however, can be reliably measured by differential thermal analysis.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship offungiform papillae density with taste detection thresholds forsucrose of young male adults. One hundred and eighty two subjectsaged 18–23 years (mean age: 21.9 ± 1.2 years) wereincluded. The densities of fungiform papillae were recordedwith the aid of the digital camera, and the taste detectionthresholds for sucrose were detected using a modified forced-choicetriangle test. The mean density of papillae within all 170 statisticparticipants was 92.43 ± 2.64/cm2, for the 6-mm-diameterstained section of the tongue tip. The average detection thresholdwas 10.83 ± 0.24 mmol/l, and the highest and lowest detectionthresholds were 19.88 ± 1.31 and 5.85 ± 0.43 mmol/l,respectively. Also, an inverse correlation between the fungiformpapillae density and the detection threshold was observed.  相似文献

In order to test the hypothesis of a major gene effect on absolute total finger ridge count (ATFRC), the nature of relationship between mean ATFRC and its variability was evaluated in a series of 47 population samples from India. Regression analysis showed that both the standard deviation and the coefficient of variation are significantly related to mean ATFRC, and about 35% of the variation in ATFRC is explained by the dependent variable coefficent of variation. These results support the hypothesis of a major gene effect on the trait ATFRC.  相似文献

The relationship between mean total finger ridge count (TFRC) and its variability is examined using 43 male and 34 female samples from the State of Andhra Pradesh, India, using the approach of Jantz (1977) to verify the major gene effect. The mean TFRC is found to be inversely and significantly related to its variability barring standard deviation (SD). The F ratios are highly significant and the variation of TFRC due to coefficient of variation (CV) is around 39 per cent. The values of correlations, regressions, F ratios etc., of the present study fully support the hypothesis of major gene effect on TFRC.  相似文献

Records were collected in an experimental herd over an 11-year period from purebred Charolais heifers (n = 351), cows (n = 615) and young entire bulls (n = 383). The objective of the study was to estimate the genetic relationship between the components of female ovarian activity (age at puberty and postpartum anoestrus length), their growth rate and body condition score and beef traits measured on related bulls. Two methods were used to estimate age at puberty and postpartum anoestrus length: the detection of oestrous behaviour and a test of cyclicity based on plasmatic progesterone assay. This study shows the existence of significant heritability estimates for the different cyclicity traits (h2 between 0.11 and 0.38). Most of the genetic correlation coefficients between ovarian activity and growth rate of females and males are negative and favourable (rg between -0.43 and 0.06). Cyclicity is also favourably related with body condition score in young or adult females (rg between -0.65 and -0.22). The genetic relationship between female ovarian activity and proportion of adipose tissue in the male carcass is, however, close to zero. These results show that an antagonism between male beef traits measured in this study and female ovarian activity is unlikely to be a cause for concern in the short term.  相似文献

Skin temperature circadian rhythms have been explored relatively recently. It has been suggested that distal and proximal skin temperature changes play a role in the regulation of the core temperature circadian rhythm and sleepiness. The authors investigated the circadian finger and core temperature rhythms in conjunction with the circadian rhythms of subjective and objective sleepiness. Fourteen healthy, young, good sleepers participated in a modified constant-routine procedure in which palmar finger temperature, rectal temperature, subjective sleepiness, and objective sleep latency were measured half-hourly across a 48-h period of enforced wakeful bed rest. Individual curves were adjusted to the group mean temperature minimum time of 0500 h and averaged to create the 4 mean curves. The 5 possible cross-correlation curves between these 4 measures were calculated for half-hourly phase lags from 12 h before to 12 h after the group mean core temperature minimum time. Maximum cross-correlations for each curve suggested that finger temperature preceded core temperature by 3 h (r = -0.22), and subjective sleepiness followed core temperature by 0.5 h (r = -0.33) and objective sleepiness by 2 h (r = 0.29). Although these data are correlational, they are consistent with the notion that finger temperature changes drive core temperature changes, which determine changes of subjective and objective sleepiness.  相似文献

The effects of menstrual cycle (days 1, 14, 21) on sex steroids and psychophysiological measures were studied in 5 normally cycling women not receiving oral contraceptives. Testing consisted of three 1/2-hour sessions. Time of day and order effects were controlled. Nonspecific skin conductance responses, heart rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressure (BP), and mean pressure were recorded in 5-minute blocks. After each test, 10 cc of venous blood was drawn and the serum was analyzed in duplicate via RIA procedures for levels of estrone, estradiol, testosterone, and progesterone. Significant differences were found over days for estone, estradiol, and progesterone but not for testosterone. Systolic BP also showed significant variation with day of cycle. Significantly more nonspecific SCRs occurred furing the luteal phase than during the other 2 phases. Results indicate that there are significant differences in systolic BP, diastolic BP, heart rate, and skin conductance responses which are associated with varying levels of estrogen and progesterone which occur during the menstrual cycle. Since actual measurement of hormones was made, these results can be clearly linked to different hormonal concentrations, raher than being merely inferred as was done in previous studies.  相似文献

Five groups of pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats were irradiated for 10-40 min on gestation day 9 in a 27.12-MHz radiofrequency field at a magnetic field strength of 55 A/m and an electric field strength of 300 V/m. The specific absorption rate was 10.8 +/- 0.3 W/kg. Exposures were terminated after the rat's colonic temperature reached 41.0 degrees C, 41.5 degrees C, 42.0 degrees C, 42.5 degrees C, or 43.0 degrees C. A control group was sham irradiated at 0 A/m and 0 V/m on gestation day 9, whereas a second control group was untreated. The incidence of both birth defects and prenatal death was directly related to maternal body temperature once a temperature threshold was exceeded. The temperature threshold for both types of effects was approximately 41.5 degrees C. A few pregnant rats died after exposure to 43.0 degrees C, and higher temperatures were nearly always lethal.  相似文献

目的 :初步探讨pICln在低渗透压下的作用和变化。方法 :低渗处理pICln表达的大肠杆菌及LLC PK1细胞 ,测定大肠杆菌培养物的光密度及pICln在LLC PK1细胞的胞质及膜两相的分布。结果 :pICln表达的大肠杆菌的繁殖率明显高于对照组 ;低渗培养时LLC PK1细胞的pICln在胞质中明显增加。结论 :pICln具有抗肿胀、保护细胞的作用 ,它可能作为胞质调节蛋白来对抗低渗。  相似文献
