Competence for phototropic (PT) and gravitropic (GT) bending by potato plantlets grown in vitro manifests regular daily changes indicating possible involvement of circadian regulation. Unilateral stimulation of plantlets with blue light at dawn resulted in moderate PT response regarding both attained curvature and long lag phase. The PT response was the strongest between 8:00 and 12:00 h. Throughout the afternoon and in the evening, bending rate and maximal PT curvature declined significantly until 23:00 h. The GT response was fastest and strongest for plantlets stimulated early in the morning and late in the evening. During the rest of the day, GT competence did not change much apart from a minimum at 15:00. In conditions comprising either prolonged day or prolonged night, plantlets appeared to maintain rhythmicity of competence for PT and GT at least in the short-term. Introduction of a dark period prior to the tropic stimulation at 11:00 h when both PT and GT responses were strong resulted in the opposite effect: PT was depressed, and GT was enhanced. There was a time threshold of 60 min for the duration of the dark period so the plants can sense interruption in the daylight. Levels of relative expression of a PHOT2 gene indicate rhythmic daily changes. The PHOT2 gene was present at high levels during morning hours and late in the evening. As the mid-day and the afternoon hours approached, PHOT2 expression decreased and reached a daily minimum at 17:00 h. We believe that our data offer strong support for the conclusion that there is an involvement of circadian rhythms in control of both PT and GT.  相似文献

In order to study the cognitive function rhythm related to the auditory frequency system for people who prefer to be active in the morning and at night, we conducted an experiment during morning (09:00), evening (17:00) and late-night (01:00) periods. On the basis of a morningness/eveningness questionnaire, six moderately morning-type subjects (M-types) and seven evening-type subjects (E-types) were selected. Diurnal variation of event-related potential (ERP) were assessed under low-frequency (250/500 Hz) and high-frequency (1000/2000 Hz) condition using an oddball task. M-types were tested during the morning (09:00) and evening (17:00) periods, and E-types were tested during the evening (17:00) and midnight (01:00) periods. Subjects were asked to press a button when the target stimulus was detected. We found that the P300 amplitude at 09:00 was significantly greater than that at 17:00 for M-types, was significantly greater at 17:00 than that at 01:00 for E-types. A significant difference of P300 latency and P300 amplitude was observed at 17:00 between M-types and E-types. The P300 amplitude obtained after a low-frequency stimulus was significantly greater than that after a high-frequency stimulus at 09:00 for M-types, and at 01:00 for E-types. These results revealed that stimulus frequency had effects on the diurnal changes of human cognitive function, and circadian typology had a direct effect on the diurnal change of human cognitive function. This study has extended the previous findings of auditory P300 studies on diurnal variations in terms of circadian typology and stimulus parameter.  相似文献

In a previous study we found that daytime exposure to bright as compared to dim light exerted a beneficial effect on the digestion of the evening meal. This finding prompted us to examine whether the digestion of the evening meal is also affected by evening light intensity. Subjects lived in light of 200 lux during the daytime (08:00-17:00 h) and took their evening meal at 17:00 h under 20 lux (evening dim-light condition: 17:00-02:00 h) or 2000 lux (evening bright-light condition: 17:00-02:00 h) until retiring at 02:00 h. Assessment of carbohydrate digestion of the evening meal was accomplished by a breath hydrogen test that is indicative of the malabsorption of dietary carbohydrate. Hydrogen excretion in the breath in the evening under the dim-light condition was significantly less than under the bright-light condition (p < 0.05). This finding is the opposite to that obtained in previous experiments in which subjects were exposed to the different intensities of light during the daytime, and indicates that the exposure to dim light in the evening exerts a better effect on carbohydrate digestion in the evening meal than does the exposure to bright light.  相似文献

2007年4月,利用红外线摄像设备记录人工环境下的棘胸蛙行为活动,采用扫描取样法和目标动物取样法对录像资料进行分析,对人工环境下棘胸蛙的个体行为和活动节律进行了研究。结果表明:人工环境下的棘胸蛙行为主要包括静止行为(休息、对视);社会行为(打斗、追逐);运动行为(游泳、呜叫、跳跃);捕食行为;繁殖行为(求偶呜唱、侵占、驱赶、撕咬,摔跤、抱对、错抱、拒绝行为、产卵)等。日变化规律变化表明:棘胸蛙的静止行为占了多数,其余多数行为集中在夜间,在凌晨03:00~05:00间出现一个最高峰,与此不同的是棘胸蛙的打斗行为在白天06:00~07:00、08:00~09:00、11:00~12:00多次出现高峰,而在夜间17:00~24:00打斗行为时间分配很少。呜叫行为在06:00—07:00,13:oo~14:00出现两个高峰,而在夜间17:00~01:00鸣叫行为时间分配很少。棘胸蛙的繁殖行为也主要发生在夜间,在凌晨02:30—04:30为高峰,其间抱对行为占到67%,其次为摔跤17%,撕咬15%,而其余所占很少。在行为描述的基础上,对棘胸蛙的有关行为机制进行了探讨。  相似文献

Osler disease is an autosomal dominant disorder of the fibrovascular tissue characterized by arteriovenous malformations with multi-systemic haemorrhages. Recurrent epistaxis is the predominant symptom in more than 90% of patients. Recent studies showed circadian and seasonal patterns in the onset of nosebleeds, similar to acute cardiovascular events, such as myocardial infarction and stroke. The aim of this study was to determine whether such patterns would also apply to the onset of epistaxis in patients with Osler disease. In all, 110 patients with Osler disease who were under treatment for recurrent epistaxis at the University Hospital of Mannheim were requested to complete a questionnaire addressing the intensity and frequency of epistaxis according to the classification of Bergler et al., as well as circadian and circannual rhythmicity in the occurrence of epistaxis according to visual analogue scales (VAS). More than half of the patients claimed to experience daily to weekly episodes of recurrent epistaxis. The occurrence of epistaxis showed a biphasic 24 h pattern, with a primary peak in the morning (05:00-8:00 h) and smaller secondary peaks in the evening (17:00-20:00 h and 21:00-00:00 h). No significant seasonal variation was found in the onset of epistaxis. However, a slight tendency, with a peak in winter months, was observed. Similar to other chronobiological studies on nosebleeds, this study showed that the 24 h pattern and seasonal tendency in the onset of epistaxis even applied to patients with Osler disease. Further investigations are necessary to determine the pathological mechanism underlying this phenomenon.  相似文献

Recent studies show that bright and dim light intensities during the daytime have important regulatory functions. Our present study was performed to evaluate the effect of exposure to different light intensities during the morning and evening on salivary secretion and its sodium concentration. The study involved 6 healthy, female volunteers who were exposed to dim light (100 lx) from 7:00 to 17:00 and to bright light (3000 lx) from 17:00 to 23:00 one day, and to bright light (3000 lx) from 7:00 to 17:00 and dim light (100 lx) from 17:00 to 23:00 on the next day. We collected salivary samples every 10 minutes during 2 hours in the morning and in the evening by means of a Lashley cup. Saliva secretion was stimulated by sweet candy. The amount of saliva secreted was significantly greater in the morning under bright light exposure, while it was significantly greater in the evening under dim light exposure. We discuss these findings in terms of changes in activity of the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) and sympathetic (SNS) nervous system produced by exposure to different light intensities at different times of the day.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to examine the effects of training at the same time of the day on the diurnal variations of anaerobic performances to provide some recommendations to adjust training hours with the time of the day of competitive events. Thirty participants underwent 8 weeks of lower-extremity progressive resistance training performed 3 times per week designed to promote muscular strength and power. These subjects were randomly assigned to a morning training group (MTG, 07:00-08:00 hours, n = 10), an evening training group (ETG, 17:00-18:00 hours, n = 10), and a control group (CG, completed all tests but did not train, n = 10). Performance in the squat jump, the countermovement jump, the Wingate and 1 repetition maximum (1RM) during leg extension, leg curl, and squat tests was recorded just before and 2 weeks after an 8-week course of regular training. For all the subjects, the morning and evening tests were scheduled at the same time of the day as for the morning and evening training sessions. Before training, the results indicated a significant increase in performance from morning to evening tests (ca. 2.84-17.55% for all tests) for all groups. After training, the diurnal variations in anaerobic performances were blunted in the MTG. In fact, there was no significant difference in muscular power or strength between morning and evening tests. However, these intradaily variations in anaerobic performances persisted in the ETG and CG. From a practical point of view, adaptation to strength training is greater at the time of the day at which training was scheduled than at other times.  相似文献

Factors contributing to sleep timing and sleep restriction in daily life include chronotype and less flexibility in times available for sleep on scheduled days versus free days. There is some evidence that these two factors interact, with morning types and evening types reporting similar sleep need, but evening types being more likely to accumulate a sleep debt during the week and to have greater sleep extension on weekend nights. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the independent contributions of circadian phase and weekend-to-weekday variability to sleep timing in daily life. The study included 14 morning types and 14 evening types recruited from a community-based sample of New Zealand adults (mean age 41.1 ± 4.7 years). On days 1–15, the participants followed their usual routines in their own homes and daily sleep start, midpoint and end times were determined by actigraphy and sleep diaries. Days 16–17 involved a 17 h modified constant routine protocol in the laboratory (17:00 to 10:00, <20 lux) with half-hourly saliva samples assayed for melatonin. Mixed model ANCOVAs for repeated measures were used to investigate the independent relationships between sleep start and end times (separate models) and age (30–39 years versus 40–49 years), circadian phase [time of the dim light melatonin onset (DLMO)] and weekday/weekend schedules (Sunday–Thursday nights versus Friday–Saturday nights). As expected on weekdays, evening types had later sleep start times (mean = 23:47 versus 22:37, p < .0001) and end times (mean = 07:14 versus 05:56, p < .0001) than morning types. Similarly on weekend days, evening types had later sleep start times (mean = 00:14 versus 23:07, p = .0032) and end times (mean = 08:56 versus 07:04, p < .0001) than morning types. Evening types also had later DLMO (22:06 versus 20:46, p = .0002) than morning types (mean difference = 80.4 min, SE = 18.6 min). The ANCOVA models found that later sleep start times were associated with later DLMO (p = .0172) and weekend-to-weekday sleep timing variability (p < .0001), after controlling for age, while later sleep end times were associated with later DLMO (p = .0038), younger age (p = .0190) and weekend days (p < .0001). Sleep end times showed stronger association with DLMO (for every 30 min delay in DLMO, estimated mean sleep end time occurred 14.0 min later versus 10.19 min later for sleep start times). Sleep end times also showed greater delays on weekends versus weekdays (estimated mean delay for sleep end time = 84 min, for sleep start time = 28 min). Comparing morning types and evening types, the estimated contributions of the DLMO to the mean observed differences in sleep timing were on weekdays, 39% for sleep start times and 49% for sleep end times; and on weekends, 41% for sleep start times and 34% of sleep end times. We conclude that differences in sleep timing between morning types and evening types were much greater than would be predicted on the basis of the independent contribution of the difference in DLMO on both weekdays and weekend days. The timing of sleep in daily life involves complex interactions between physiological and psychosocial factors, which may be moderated by age in adults aged 30–49 years.  相似文献

Purpose

The present study addressed the lack of data on the effect of different types of stretching on diurnal variations in vertical jump height - i.e., squat-jump (SJ) and countermovement-jump (CMJ). We hypothesized that dynamic stretching could affect the diurnal variations of jump height by producing a greater increase in short-term maximal performance in the morning than the evening through increasing core temperature at this time-of-day.

Methods

Twenty male soccer players (age, 18.6±1.3 yrs; height, 174.6±3.8 cm; body-mass, 71.1±8.6 kg; mean ± SD) completed the SJ and CMJ tests either after static stretching, dynamic stretching or no-stretching protocols at two times of day, 07:00 h and 17:00 h, with a minimum of 48 hours between testing sessions. One minute after warming-up for 5 minutes by light jogging and performing one of the three stretching protocols (i.e., static stretching, dynamic stretching or no-stretching) for 8 minutes, each subject completed the SJ and CMJ tests. Jumping heights were recorded and analyzed using a two-way analysis of variance with repeated measures (3 [stretching]×2 [time-of-day]).

Results

The SJ and CMJ heights were significantly higher at 17:00 than 07:00 h (p<0.01) after the no-stretching protocol. These daily variations disappeared (i.e., the diurnal gain decreased from 4.2±2.81% (p<0.01) to 1.81±4.39% (not-significant) for SJ and from 3.99±3.43% (p<0.01) to 1.51±3.83% (not-significant) for CMJ) after dynamic stretching due to greater increases in SJ and CMJ heights in the morning than the evening (8.4±6.36% vs. 4.4±2.64%, p<0.05 for SJ and 10.61±5.49% vs. 6.03±3.14%, p<0.05 for CMJ). However, no significant effect of static stretching on the diurnal variations of SJ and CMJ heights was observed.

Conclusion

Dynamic stretching affects the typical diurnal variations of SJ and CMJ and helps to counteract the lower morning values in vertical jump height.  相似文献

The present study tested the assumption that the temporal parameters of melatonin synthesis indicate the individual circadian phase position better than the minimum of rectal temperature. Thirty-four men and 17 women (16-32 yr, 14 morning, 14 neither, 23 evening types) completed a constant routine (24-26 h bedrest, <30 lux, 18-20 degrees C, hourly isocaloric diet). Salivary melatonin level was determined hourly, rectal temperature and heart rate were continuously recorded throughout. The minima of rectal temperature and heart rate as well as the temporal parameters of melatonin synthesis occurred earlier in morning than in evening types and were significantly related to the subjective circadian phase as determined by the morningness-eveningness questionnaire. The level of significance and the resolving power was greater for the melatonin parameters and for the minimum of heart rate than for the minimum of rectal temperature. The temporal differences between the opposite diurnal types were larger and the correlation coefficients with morningness were higher in men than in women. The temporal parameters of melatonin synthesis are valid indicators of the individual circadian phase. As morningness is closely related to the ability to cope with shiftwork, the determination of the melatonin profile might be a valuable element of the criteria when assigning a person to shiftwork.  相似文献

The present experiment tested our hypothesis that the subjects will wear more clothing in the evening cold under the influence of bright light exposure in the late afternoon and evening. Nine young female adults participated in this study. Light intensity was controlled from 9:00 h to 16:00 h at 100 lx, and from 16:00 h to 20:30 h either at 3000 lx in the bright light (Brighte) or at 10 lx in the dim light ("Dim") conditions. Light intensity was maintained at 10 lx from 20:30 h to 23:00 h. They were instructed to wear garments to maintain themselves to feel comfortable during the fall of ambient temperature from 30 degrees C to 15 degrees C (21:00 h - 22:00 h) and its constant temperature at 15 degrees C (22:00 h - 23:00 h). Most subjects dressed in heavier clothing in the "Bright" than in the "Dim" conditions. The evening fall of core temperature was significantly smaller and the urinary melatonin secretion was significantly lower in the "Bright" condition, suggesting that the set-point of core temperature has been set at a higher level during the evening and at night, being influenced by the less amount of melatonin secretion. Thus, it is concluded that the late afternoon and evening bright light exposure could accelerate the dressing behavior in the evening cold.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to examine the effects of training at the same time of day on diurnal variations of technical ability and swimming performance, to provide some recommendations with regard to adjusting training hours in accord with the time of day of competitive events. Eighteen participants volunteered for this study, and these were randomly assigned to either a morning training group (MTG, who trained only between 07:00 and 08:00 h, n = 6), an evening training group (ETG, who trained only between 17:00 and 18:00 h, n = 6), or a control group (CG, did not train but participated in all tests, n = 6). Swimming performance and technical ability – (i) stroke parameters: swim velocity (V), stroke rate (SR), and stroke length (SL); and (ii) motor organization: arm stroke phases and arm coordination (Idc) – were recorded 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after an 8-week regular training period. For all participants, the morning and evening tests were scheduled at the same time of day as the morning and evening training sessions. After training, the major finding of this study was that both ETG and the CG showed significantly lower P, V, SR, phase (B), phase (C), and Idc values in the morning than in the evening. However, P, V, SR, phase (B), phase (C), and Idc of the MTG measured at 07:00 and 17:00 h did not differ. Thus, training at a specific time of day increased performance in MTG at this time and modified the diurnal variation of swim performance. This study indicates that training at a specific time of day can result in marked changes in both swimming performance and technical aspects of swimming. Furthermore, training in the morning improved morning swimming performance and its components, and the amplitude of the morning–evening difference decreased. Training in the evening improved swimming performance and its components more in the evening than the morning, and the amplitude of the morning–evening difference increased.  相似文献

As suggested by the authors, the Horne and Ostberg morning/evening questionnaire (MEQ) has never been adapted to evaluate a nonstudent population. The purpose of this study was to validate this MEQ in a sample of middle-aged workers by modifying only the cutoffs. It was administered in 566 non-shift-workers aged 51.2 to 3.2 years who presented no sleep disorders. According to the Home and Ostberg classification, the sample consisted of 62.1% morning type, 36.6% neither type, and 2.2% evening type. Multiple correspondence analysis, which determines the principal components, was performed on all MEQ items. Then an ascending hierarchical classification was applied to determine 3 clusters from these principal components. On the basis of these 3 clusters, new cutoffs were determined: evening types were considered as scoring under 53 and morning types above 64, thus giving 28.1% morning type, 51.7% neither type, and 20.2% evening type. As an external validation, eveningness was associated with later bedtime and waking-up time (more pronounced at the weekend), greater need for sleep, larger daily sleep debt, greater morning sleepiness, and ease of returning to sleep in the early morning. A positive correlation between age and morningness was again found. This study confirms that "owls" are not rare in a middle-aged sample. We conclude that this adapted MEQ could be useful when investigating age-related changes in sleep.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of time of day on soccer-specific skills and physiological and psychological parameters in children. Ten male children soccer players (age: 14.6?±?0.8 years; height: 1.63?±?0.4 m; body mass: 52.5?±?4.9 kg) performed two shooting accuracy tests before and after a 10?×?20-m dribbling sprint test with 20-s of passive recovery between repetitions. The measurements were taken at 08:00 h, 13:00 h, and 17:00 h in a randomized order. Mean heart rate (HR) was monitored during the dribbling test. At the beginning of each test session, blood pressure and intra-aural temperature were measured. Likewise, children were asked to complete the profile of mood state (POMS) and the Hooper Index questionnaires. Lactate concentration ([La]) was recorded at rest, post-fifth recovery periods and post-second accuracy test. Moreover, they indicate their rating of perceived exertion (RPE) score immediately at the end of each test session. ABSTRACT

Gait is one of the most basic movements, and walking activity accomplished in dual task conditions realistically represents daily life mobility. Much is known about diurnal variations of gait components such as muscle power, postural control, and attention. However, paradoxically only little is known about gait itself. The aim of this study was to analyze whether gait parameters show time-of-day fluctuation in simple and dual task conditions. Sixteen young subjects performed sessions at five specific hours (06:00, 10:00, 14:00, 18:00 and 22:00 h), performing a single (walking or counting) and a dual (walking and counting) task. When performing gait in dual task conditions, an additional cognitive task had to be carried out. More precisely, the participants had to count backwards from a two-digit random number by increments of three while walking. Spatio-temporal gait parameters and counting performance data were recorded for analysis. Walking speed significantly decreased, while stride length variability increased when the task condition switched from single to dual. In the single-task condition, diurnal variations were observed in both walking speed and counting speed. Walking speed was higher in the afternoon and in the evening (14:00 and 22:00 h) and lower in the morning (10:00 h). Counting speed was maximum at 10:00 and 14:00 h and minimum at 18:00 h. Nevertheless, no significant diurnal fluctuation was substanytiated in the dual task condition. These results confirm the existing literature about changes in gait between single and dual task conditions. A diurnal pattern of single-task gait could also be highlighted. Moreover, this study suggests that diurnal variations faded in complex dual task gait, when the cognitive load nearly reached its maximum. These findings might be used to reduce the risk for falls, especially of the elderly.  相似文献

Odor performance varies by clinical state and gender, though little is known about its variation by season or time of day. Many odors, including lavender, induce transient mood changes. This study explored discrimination differences between various lavender oil blends and their effects on transient mood in the morning and evening in depressed and nondepressed adults. We also determined seasonal influences on these measures. A total of 169 subjects, 98 women and 71 men (mean age +/- SD, 19.3 +/- 1.6 y) participated, with different subjects studied at different times of the year. The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) classified subjects as depressed (score > or =10; N= 57) or nondepressed (score <10; N= 112). In the discrimination test, subjects compared pairs of two different lavender oil blends or a control. Transient change in mood was assessed by the Profile of Mood States (POMS) after each trial of five lavender blends interspersed by three control odors. Tests were conducted in the morning (08:00-10:00 h) and evening (18:00-20:00h). In all subjects, discrimination was significantly better for some odor pairs than for others, thus demonstrating test specificity. Discrimination was better overall in the fall than winter/spring and better in depressed than nondepressed subjects for specific odor pairs. No significant gender or time-of-day differences in discriminability were detected. There were, however, significant group differences in transient mood profiles. Current depressed state affected mood response, with lavender increasing anger in depressed subjects only. In addition, depressed subjects and men, whether or not depressed, exhibited diurnal mood variation, with better mood in the evening; the former group also showed more evening energy. All subjects were more confused in the morning than evening. Season also affected transient mood; winter/spring-tested subjects reported more vigor than fall-tested subjects. In addition, summer-tested subjects showed more tension in the morning, whereas fall-tested subjects showed the opposite pattern in the evening. In all subjects, lavender increased fatigue, tension, confusion, and total mood disturbance, and it decreased vigor. The study showed that both chronobiological (seasonal and time-of-day) and clinical factors modify discrimination and mood response to odors. Brief lavender odor presentation may serve as a nonphotic method for altering mood in young depressed and nondepressed adults particularly during the fall, a time of heightened discriminability.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to examine levels of energetic arousal (EA), tense arousal (TA), and hedonic tone (HT) in individuals with different circadian preferences. Subjects were males with extreme either morning (M‐type) or evening (E‐type) preferences (N=31), selected using the Morningness‐Eveningness Questionnaire cutoff points derived from the Polish population norms. They completed the UWIST Mood Adjective Check List every 1.5 h between 08:00 to 20:00 h in laboratory conditions. The obtained data showed higher levels of TA and lower levels of HT in E‐types over the whole day as compared to M‐types. As for EA, M‐types showed higher levels than E‐types between 08:00 to 17:00 h, but the two groups showed no differences during the later hours of the day. Both groups were found to exhibit similar diurnal patterns in TA and HT, and dissimilarity between M‐types and E‐types appeared in the daily course of EA. The results show the three‐dimensional model of mood is more advantageous in M‐types than in E‐types during the hours of typical human activity.  相似文献
