Single-channel recordings from membrane patches frequently exhibit multiple conductance levels. In some preparations, the steady-state probabilities of observing these levels do not follow a binomial distribution. This behavior has been reported in sodium channels, potassium channels, acetylcholine receptor channels and gap junction channels. A non-binomial distribution suggests interaction of the channels or the presence of channels with different open probabilities. However, the current trace sometimes exhibits single transitions spanning several levels. Since the probability of simultaneous transitions of independent channels is infinitesimally small, such observations strongly suggest a cooperative gating behavior. We present a Markov model to describe the cooperative gating of channels using only the all-points current amplitude histograms for the probability of observing the various conductance levels. We investigate the steady-state (or equilibrium) properties of a system ofN channels and provide a scheme to express all the probabilities in terms of just two parameters. The main feature of our model is that lateral interaction of channels gives rise to cooperative gating. Another useful feature is the introduction of the language of graph theory which can potentially provide a different avenue to study ion channel kinetics. We write down explicit expressions for systems of two, three and four channels and provide a procedure to describe the system ofN channels.  相似文献

We investigate the emergence of synchronization in two groups of oscillators; one group acts as a synchronization source, and the other as the target. Based on phase model simulations, we construct a synchrony index (SI): a combination of intra- and intergroup synchronies. The SI characterizes the extent of induced synchrony in the population. We demonstrate the usefulness of the measure in a test case of mesial temporal lobe epilepsy: the SI can be readily calculated from standard electroencephalographic measurements. We show that the synchrony index has a statistically significant increased value for the ictal periods and that the epileptic focus can be located by identifying the most synchronous pairs of electrodes during the initial part of ictal period of the seizure. We also show that it is possible in this pilot case to differentiate clinical and subclinical seizures based on the dynamical features of the synchronization. The synchronization index was found to be a useful quantity for the characterization of “pathological hypersynchronization” within a well-characterized patient with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy and thus has potential medical value in seizure detection, localizing ability, and association with later surgical outcome.  相似文献

Flicker noise of electric currents through ion-selective membranes is explained. It is attributed to the depletion of salt on one side of the membrane, which creates a thin layer of high resistance. Joule heating in this depletion layer and the ensuing temperature gradient, as well as the concentration gradient, give rise to buoyant forces which may create a turbulent convection current. The turbulence mixes the depletion layer so that the electric resistance fluctuates, and consequently the current flickers.Experiments with ion-selective membranes support this conjecture. They show that 1) Noise is coincident with the increase of the electric resistance by the depletion process. 2) When the current density is reduced, it reaches a critical value, below which the convection current changes from turbulent to laminar, and the noise disappears. 3) Noise reduces with temperature, because the expansion coefficient of water decreases with temperature, and its viscosity increases. 4) A non-ionic water-soluble polymer added to the compartment on the side of the depletion layer reduces the noise, by increasing the bulk viscosity of the solution. 5) Noise depends on the membrane's orientation in the gravitational field. 6) The convection-current in the depletion layer can be observed directly, using a laser-beam, by adding latex particles which create optical noise as they drift with the convection current across the beam. A study is made of the influence of large-scale plasma turbulence on the results from a diagnostic method that is based on enhanced scattering of microwaves near the upper hybrid resonance and is highly sensitive to small-scale fluctuations. The resolution in radial wavenumbers that is provided by an enhanced-scattering correlation analysis of small-scale fluctuations with allowance for multiple small-angle scatterings of the probing and scattered waves along their paths is determined. The frequency spectrum of a wave that is backscattered by the small-scale fluctuations involved in large-scale turbulent motion and undergoes multiple smallangle scatterings is analyzed.  相似文献

Relativistic microwave electronics faces the problem of using high currents of relativistic electron beams; i.e., it is possible to use beams the current of which is lower than that of actually existing high-current accelerators. We show the possibility of increasing the power of radiation generated in a plasma relativistic microwave oscillator (PRMO) due to an increase in the absolute value of current. For the beam currents close to the value of limiting vacuum current, the efficiency of microwave generation decreases; therefore, we study PRMO schemes with a high value of limiting vacuum current, i.e., schemes with a small gap between a hollow relativistic electron beam and the waveguide wall. The results of the experiment and numerical simulation are discussed.  相似文献

Summary In the stomatogastric ganglion (STG) of Homarus gammarus, pacemaker neurons of the pyloric central pattern generator are entrained by a network oscillator (CPO) contained in the commissural ganglion. A consequence of CPO's influence is that the spontaneous pyloric period can take one of several absolute values, most commonly displaying a bimodal distribution. These discrete values correspond to different coordination modes with the CPO rhythm. Moreover, the oscillation period of pyloric pacemaker neurons varies discontinuously with their membrane potential. This behavior persists when the mean pyloric period is modified by different perfusion salines but disappears when the STG is disconnected from the anterior ganglia. Under these conditions, pyloric pacemaker neurons are deprived of CPO inputs and behave like independent oscillators whose period varies continuously as a function of the membrane potential. The modulatory pyloric suppressor neurons (PS), which are known to decrease the oscillatory capabilities of the pyloric pacemakers, can change the coordination mode between these neurons and the CPO. PS can provoke discontinuous variations in the pyloric period as a function of their firing frequency. In this report we show that Jacalin binds the heme-binding protein hemopexin and the C4b-binding protein sgp120 in human plasma. The interaction of Jacalin with hemopexin confirms that a single O-linked oligosaccharide is sufficient to mediate binding of a protein to this lectin. Retention of sgp120 by immobilized Jacalin demonstrated that this protein was O-glycosylated and, therefore, clearly different from another C4b-binding protein, the complement protein C2 which is physicochemically similar but exclusively N-glycosylated. In addition, Jacalin was also shown to bind several proteolytic enzymes which remain to be identified.  相似文献

The formation of pressure profiles in turbulent tokamak plasmas in ohmic heating regimes and transient regimes induced by turning-on of electron-cyclotron resonance (ECR) heating is investigated. The study is based on self-consistent modeling of low-frequency turbulent plasma convection described by an adiabatically reduced set of hydrodynamic-type equations. The simulations show that, in the ohmic heating stage, turbulence forms and maintains profiles of the total plasma pressure corresponding to turbulentrelaxed states. These profiles are close to self-consistent profiles of the total plasma pressure experimentally observed on the T-10 tokamak in ohmic regimes with different values of the safety factor q L at the limiter. Simulations of nonstationary regimes induced by turning-on of on- and off-axis ECR heating show that the total plasma pressure profiles in the transient regimes remain close to those in the turbulent-relaxed state, as well as to the profiles experimentally observed on T-10.  相似文献

The question of the existence of a steady-state shock front of a fast magnetosonic wave propagating across the magnetic field against the background of turbulent Alfvén waves is considered. Hypoxanthine riboside (HXR) is a nucleoside essential for wobble base pairs to translate the genetic code. In this work, an absorption and luminescence study showed that HXR and human serum albumin (HSA) formed a new complex through hydrogen bonds and van der Waals forces at ground state. Fluorescence probe experiments indicated that HXR entered the first subdomain of domain II in HSA and was fixed by amino acid residues in site I defined by Sudlow, and after competing with a known site marker. The recognition interaction featured negative ΔH?, ΔS? and ΔG? thermodynamic parameters. Fluorescence and circular dichroism spectra described the polarity of residues and α‐helix and β‐strand content changed because of HXR binding. The most rational structure for the HXR–HSA complex was recommended by the molecular docking method, in which the binding location, molecular orientation, adjacent amino acid residues, and hydrogen bonds were included. In addition, the influence of β‐cyclodextrin and some essential metal ions on the balance of the HSA–HXR system interaction was measured. The study gained comprehensive information on the transportation mechanism for HXR in blood, and was of great significance in understanding the theory of HXR biotransformation and in discussing its clinical in vivo half‐life.  相似文献

A study is made of the polarization of electromagnetic radiation at the second harmonic of the electron gyrofrequency. The radiation is emitted by a highly ionized collisionless plasma in which the turbulence is excited at electron gyrofrequencies in a strong magnetic field. The mechanism for the generation of electromagnetic waves during mergings of the gyrofrequency plasmons is analyzed. It is shown that, even in a strong magnetic field, the degree of circular polarization of electromagnetic radiation at the second harmonic of the electron gyrofrequency may be moderate or weak.  相似文献

The plasma radiative loss profile in the T-11M tokamak operating with a lithium limiter was measured using a sixteen-channel absolute extreme-ultraviolet photodiode array. The field of view of the detector was set in a vertical plane tangential to the plasma column axis. The radiative loss profile was recovered by solving an inverse problem under the assumption of toroidal and poloidal symmetry of the plasma column. A stable algorithm is developed for solving the problem with this geometry, and the possible errors of the method are evaluated. The radiative loss profiles and their evolution in various tokamak regimes are derived.  相似文献

A review is given of the developments and theoretical investigations of a fundamentally new class of microwave devices, namely, hybrid microwave oscillators with a virtual cathode, which combine the useful properties of virtual cathodes with the advantages of those traditional microwave oscillators that operate with subcritical-current beams and have a high efficiency in generating ultrarelativistic electron beams. Among such devices are the following: a hybrid diffractional microwave oscillator with a virtual cathode, a hybrid gyrodevice with a virtual cathode, a hybrid beam-plasma vircator, a hybrid gyrocon with a virtual cathode, a hybrid Cherenkov oscillator with a virtual cathode, a hybrid microwave oscillator of the “vircator + traveling-wave tube” type, an original two-beam tube with a virtual cathode, and a klystron-like vircator.  相似文献

A neural network model is considered which is designed as a system of phase oscillators and contains the central oscillator and peripheral oscillators which interact via the central oscillator. The regime of partial synchronization was studied when current frequencies of the central oscillator and one group of peripheral oscillators are near to each other while current frequencies of other peripheral oscillators are far from being synchronized with the central oscillator. Approximation formulas for the average frequency of the central oscillator in the regime of partial synchronization are derived, and results of computation experiments are presented which characterize the accuracy of the approximation.  相似文献
