This study evaluated the effect of exclusive machine milking on oxytocin (OT) and cortisol (CORT) release, and on milk yield and residual milk in Gir (group Gir), Holstein (group Hol) and crossbred animals (group GirHol). Six animals from each group were submitted to experimental milkings. As expected, milk yield was significantly higher in the Hol group than in the groups GirHol and Gir, and group GirHol produced more milk than the Gir group. In contrast, all groups exhibited significant but similar levels of OT, although OT increased more rapidly during milking for the groups Hol and GirHol than for the Gir group. In addition, CORT levels measured during and after milking were significantly influenced by the group. The Gir group showed higher levels of CORT than the groups GirHol and Hol. The lower performances of the Gir breed can not be explained by a less efficient milk ejection reflex because all cows studied released enough OT and had an effective milk ejection.  相似文献

Sicilo-Sarde is a local breed from northern Tunisia resulting from crossing Sarda and Comisana dairy sheep and is traditionally used for cheese production after lamb weaning. A sample of 52 adult Sicilo-Sarde lactating ewes was used for studying their udder morphological traits and milk yield potential during weeks 4-8 (milking-suckling period) and 10 (milking period) of lactation. Daily milk yield was estimated on a daily basis by using the double oxytocin injection method 4 h after machine-milking at d 30 and 45. Udder and teat morphology were also measured at d 45 of lactation. Cisternal area (by ultrasonography) and udder compartments (cisternal and alveolar milk) were evaluated 8 h after milking by using atosiban and oxytocin on d 72 of lactation. Milk yield averaged 0.56 ± 0.10 L/d and ewes had small (volume, 496 ± 28 mL) and healthy udders (CMT, <1), with medium sized teats (length, 18.5 ± 4.9 mm; diameter, 10.0 ± 2.0 mm) attached at 45 ± 10°. A drop in milk production (49%) was found in the transition from suckling (day 30) to milking (week 10). Udder cisterns were multilocular and small sized (half udder area, 11.6 ± 4.5 cm2), although cisternal milk accounted for 54% of the total milk in the udder. Correlation between cisternal milk and cisternal area was moderate (R2 = 0.48; P < 0.05). Lag time and total milking time were 1.9 ± 0.1 and 31 ± 5 s, respectively. In conclusion, the Sicilo-Sarde ewes evaluated showed medium sized cisterns and teats which were morphologically adequate for machine milking, although milk production needs to be improved.  相似文献

Mammary myoepithelial cells are specialized smooth musclelike epithelial cells that express the smooth muscle actin isoform: smooth muscle alpha-actin (ACTA2). These cells contract in response to oxytocin to generate the contractile force required for milk ejection during lactation. It is believed that ACTA2 contributes to myoepithelial contractile force generation; however, this hypothesis has not been directly tested. To evaluate the contribution of ACTA2 to mammary myoepithelial cell contraction, Acta2 null mice were utilized and milk ejection and myoepithelial cell contractile force generation were evaluated. Pups suckling on Acta2 null dams had a significant reduction in weight gain starting immediately postbirth. Cross-fostering demonstrated the lactation defect is with the Acta2 null dams. Carmine alum whole mounts and conventional histology revealed no underlying structural defects in Acta2 null mammary glands that could account for the lactation defect. In addition, myoepithelial cell formation and organization appeared normal in Acta2 null lactating mammary glands as evaluated using an Acta2 promoter-GFP transgene or phalloidin staining to visualize myoepithelial cells. However, mammary myoepithelial cell contraction in response to oxytocin was significantly reduced in isolated Acta2 null lactating mammary glands and in in vivo studies using Acta2 null lactating dams. These results demonstrate that lack of ACTA2 expression impairs mammary myoepithelial cell contraction and milk ejection and suggests that ACTA2 expression in mammary myoepithelial cells has the functional consequence of enhancing contractile force generation required for milk ejection.  相似文献

To elucidate mechanisms by which epinephrine (epi) blocks milk ejection in cattle, blood serum oxytocin (OT) concentrations were measured in four heifers before, during, and after milking following either intrajugular injection of 0.85% saline (S) or epi (3 mg). S did not affect OT concentrations. They peaked 2 min after milking-machine attachment. OT declined 3 min after milking commenced, reaching resting concentrations 10-60 min after milking. Milk yields were not altered by S. Epi did not influence significantly basal OT concentration. Yet, OT released to milking appeared less than the saline control. Peak OT concentration after epi and milking was reached 1 min after machine attachment. OT declined within 3 min after milking commenced. Milk yield was reduced 48% after epi. Jugular vein and carotid arterial OT concentrations and mammary blood flow (MBF) were measured simultaneously in four multiparous cows. Blood was collected before, during, and after milking following S or epi (50 micrograms). Jugular and carotid OT concentrations followed similar patterns for both treatments. Changes in carotid OT concentrations lagged behind those of the jugular vein by approximately 1 min. Elevated carotid OT concentrations were seen in two cows after milking and thought to be derived from non-hypothalamic-neurohypophysial sources. Epi (50 micrograms) did not reduce blood OT concentrations, but reduced MBF by 95%. Milking induced increases in MBF seen in controls, were not observed with epi, and milk yield was reduced by 56%. Our experiments suggest that epi may inhibit OT release to milking stimuli at pharmacological doses. At lower doses, epi exerts its effects peripherally by acutely reducing MFB, thus preventing physiological concentrations of hormone from reaching the myoepithelium. An intrinsic action of epi on the myoepithelial cells of cattle is unlikely, but cannot be ruled out at this time.  相似文献

Differences between production systems based on grazing and browsing vs. use of harvested feedstuffs in confinement largely depend on specific feedstuffs and plants available and being consumed. Low forage nutrient ingestion should have relatively greater impact on tissue mobilization than milk production in early than later periods of lactation, with a transition to proportionally greater change in milk production in late lactation. However, low body condition at kidding would limit tissue energy mobilization and restrict impact of level of nutrient intake to milk yield and, likewise, tissue mobilization would be less with one vs. two or three milkings per day. As lactation advances after freshening, fat and protein levels decrease with increasing milk yield, and when production declines in mid- to late lactation, fat and protein concentrations increase. Milk production generally peaks at a parity of 3 or 4, thereafter declining slowly. Elevated somatic cell count alone in dairy goats is not a valid indication of mammary infection. Extended lactations offer opportunities to minimize or avoid seasonal fluctuations in milk production and lessen production costs. If differences in performance between suckled and machine-milked dairy goats occur, they may be restricted to or of greater magnitude during the suckling period compared with post-weaning, and differences in milk yield will either be absent or less with one kid compared with greater litter sizes. The magnitude of effects of milking frequency on milk yield is less for goats of low vs. high production potential and with low vs. high diet quality. Likewise, the effect of milking frequency is greater in early and mid-lactation when yield is higher than in late lactation, along with a shorter period of peak production with one vs. two daily milkings. Physical form of the diet can affect production and composition of goat milk, although effects appear of smaller magnitude than in dairy cattle. When tissue is mobilized to support milk production in early lactation, levels of C18:0 and C18:1 cis in milk increase and levels of medium-chain fatty acids decline. Effects of elevated levels of dietary fatty acids on specific long-chain fatty acids in milk and milk products vary with the fatty acid profile of fat sources used.  相似文献

Prostaglandins (PGs) of type F2 alpha, E1, and E2 have been reported both, to inhibit or to facilitate posterior pituitary oxytocin release in lactating animals and women, and to suppress or to stimulate the mammary myoepithelium. Prostaglandin-induced milk ejection in women and cows has been attributed to central oxytocin release, but no oxytocin blood levels were determined. Moreover, for lactating cows, sows, rabbits, guinea pigs, and rats a direct PG effect on the mammary myoepithelium resulting in milk ejection has been suggested. On the other hand, PGs were found to antagonize the milk-ejection response to oxytocin in rabbits and rats. The mechanisms involved in PG synergism or antagonism of oxytocin-induced milk ejection are not understood. Studies in lactating rats showed that blood pressure active PG doses of F2 alpha, E1, and E2 largely inhibited the intramammary pressure response to oxytocin. Whereas the oxytocin-antagonistic action of PGF2 alpha was not affected by adrenergic blockers (phenoxybenzamine, propranolol), the anti-oxytocin effects of PGE1 and E2 were eliminated after alpha-receptor blockade while the activity of oxytocin increased. Under beta-receptor or alpha- plus beta-receptor blockade, the oxytocin-inhibitory effects of PGE1 and E2 were almost abolished. Mechanisms of PG-induced inhibition of the oxytocin response may involve mammary vascular changes and/or alterations in myoepithelial activity of cyclic adenosine-3,5-monophosphate (c-AMP), cyclic guanosine-3,5-monophosphate (c-GMP), and phosphodiesterase (PDE). It seems unlikely that PGs bring about significant posterior pituitary oxytocin release in rats.  相似文献

The study investigated the effect of the place of storage of milk in the mammary gland on progesterone concentrations in whole milk, skim milk and milk fat. Skim milk, milk fat and whole milk progesterone concentrations were lower (P < 0.05) in milk fractions obtained from the cisternal part of the mammary gland compared to those in the milk fractions from the alveoli. Mean milk fat concentrations did not mirror the changes in the mean skim milk, milk fat and whole milk progesterone concentrations. After administration of oxytocin, milk fat concentrations rose significantly (P < 0.01). At the same time, skim milk and milk fat progesterone concentrations remained unchanged (P > 0.05), compared to those in the milk fractions of alveolar origin, obtained before oxytocin administration. Skim milk and whole milk progesterone concentrations were higher (P < 0.01) in composite milk and in milk samples collected 1 h after milking, compared to concentrations in the milk samples collected before morning milking and at 3, 5, 7 and 9 h after milking. The results suggest that defatted milk, milk fat and whole milk progesterone concentrations were affected by the place of storage of the milk in the mammary gland, and that this effect is independent of milk fat content. Time of milk sampling, not the milk fat concentration, in relation to time of milking, was a critical factor in determining skim milk, milk fat and whole milk progesterone. The study also revealed that the concentrations of the other milk components, somatic cell count, lactose and protein were affected by the place of storage of milk in the mammary gland.  相似文献

In their first 150 days of lactation, nine Ragusana jennets were investigated at the 'Istituto Sperimentale Zootecnico per la Sicilia' (ISZS) in Palermo, to study the effects of different milking typologies on milk production. The jennets were kept in a paddock and were fed hay ad libitum and concentrate (3.5 kg jennet/day). From post-foaling day 21, every 3 weeks individual milk amounts were recorded, and individual milk samples were collected and analyzed for the main qualitative parameters. The compared theses were: two daily milking times with 6- and 3-h intervals; and two, three and eight daily milking times with 3-h interval. The jennets were manually milked. The foals were separated from the jennets at 0800 h, and after the last milking the foals were housed with the jennets. During the day with eight milkings, the milk yield from the jennets was fed to their respective foals, through bottles. The 6-h milking interval produced more milk (+19%) per session than the 3-h interval (P 0.01). The fat content per session, with the eight-time milking frequency (P 0.001), was greater than the others. For each milking typology, the lactation stage had a similar effect on almost all the considered variables. When observing the eight-milking times, the fat content (%) increased from 1100 to 0500 h (P 0.001). The milk yield and the fat percentage produced by two-, three- and eight-milking times were positively correlated.  相似文献

Human contact and the effects of acute stress on cows at milking   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
We examined the effects of novelty/isolation stress on cows at milking and whether human contact reduced the stress. Holstein cows (n=18) were observed during three experimental milkings following a balanced order: (1) control (C) - milked in usual place; (2) novelty/isolation stress (S) - milked alone in an unfamiliar room; (3) human contact (HC) - milked in unfamiliar room and brushed by a familiar person. Behavior and heart rate during milking, milk yield and residual milk following oxytocin injections were recorded, and blood samples assayed for oxytocin and cortisol. Cows defecated/urinated and vocalized more and made more steps during milking in the unfamiliar room and human contact prevented this increase. Cows kicked and lifted their legs less in the unfamiliar room, but human contact did not affect this. Both plasma cortisol concentrations and heart rates were higher when cows were milked in the unfamiliar room. Although human contact reduced heart rates during the initial period of isolation, heart rates during milking and cortisol concentrations were not affected by human contact. Milk yield was lower, residual milk higher, and oxytocin during milking was lower in the unfamiliar room but this was not changed by human contact. Cows milked alone in an unfamiliar room showed signs of acute stress and gave less milk due to higher residual milk and reduced oxytocin secretion. Human contact reduced some behavioral signs of agitation and heart rate, but had no effect on milk yield or hormonal responses. For dairy cows, human contact may not be sufficiently comforting to be able to reduce the endocrine response to novelty/isolation stress.  相似文献

Serum concentrations of prolactin were unaffected by either suckling or milking on Day 2 or 3 postpartum in cows housed with their calves following parturition. In contrast, among cows housed without their calves milking elicited a four- to sixfold increase in serum prolactin concentrations. Serum oxytocin levels increased in response to both suckling and milking among cows housed with their calves with suckling being a more potent stimulus (257 ± 32 vs 189 ± 23 pg/ml at peak). However, the greatest increase in oxytocin levels accompanied milking in cows housed without their calves (375 ± 36 pg/ml at peak). These results suggest that stimuli associated with the presence or the absence of the calf can alter maternal secretion of oxytocin and prolactin. Greater understanding of factors which regulate secretion of these hormones may result in techniques to modify milk synthesis and milk ejection in dairy cows.  相似文献

The objective of this trial was to evaluate the effects of diet and cooling in the holding pen before milking on rectal temperature, respiration rate and milk production and composition. Fifty-eight lactating Holstein cows were used in a factorial split-plot design, at Rafaela Experimental Station from 12 January to 3 March 2003. The treatments were combinations of two diets: control (CD) and balanced (BD) with two levels of cooling before milking: none (NSF) and a sprinkler and fans (SF). Forage:concentrate ratios for CD and BD were 81:19 and 68:32, respectively. Cows were milked twice daily. Milk production was recorded daily, and milk composition (fat, protein, lactose and urea) was analysed twice a week. The physiological data were recorded once a week, before the cattle entered the holding pen and after milking, in the afternoon. Average maximum weekly temperature humidity index was 75.4 and ranged from 61.4 to 83. There were highly significant effects of cooling on physiological responses. Milk production was affected by diet and cooling, with no interaction; the highest and lowest production of milk was 22.42 and 20.07 l/cow per day, for BD+SF and CD+NSF, respectively. Protein was affected by diet, and was higher for BD (3.17 vs. 3.08%). There were interaction effects on milk fat at the 8% level, the highest concentration being 3.65% for BD+NFS. It was concluded that under grazing conditions, cooling by sprinkler and fans before milking improves the comfort of dairy cows, and that the effects on milk production and composition are enhanced when diets are specially formulated for heat-stress periods.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to determine the effect of two different milking methods (machine versus hand milking) on milk yield, milk composition and somatic cell counts (SCC) in mountainous Greek Boutsiko ewes. Ninety-six ewes were divided in two groups of 48 ewes each. Milk yield, lactation number (parity) and type of lambing were taken into consideration for the separation of the ewes. One group was milked by machine and the other by hand. Milk production, milk composition (with Milkoscan 104) and SCC (with Fossomatic) were performed every 14 days, in the morning and evening milking; during the experimental period seven samplings were performed in total. The results of this study have shown that ewes milked by machine gave a greater daily milk yield as compared to those milked by hand (698 ml versus 652 ml; P < 0,05) and less log SCC (5.37 versus 5.62; P < 0,05). The composition of milk did not differ between the two treatments. Also, no phenotypic correlations were established between SCC and milk production or composition, apart from a negative correlation, which was noted between SCC and the percentage of lactose. The results of this experiment have shown that ewes of the Boutsiko breed can be milked by machine without any problems.  相似文献

Changes in the yield and chemical composition of milk, together with those in the nipple preferences and suckling behavior of infants, were followed in three lactating Japanese monkeys rearing single infants under laboratory conditions at monthly intervals for six months after their paturition. Milk accumulating in the mammary glands during a 4-hr separation of the infant was collected by milking under anesthesia with the aid of a physiological dose of oxytocin. The stage of full lactation appeared to last for about two or three months after parturition. The milk at this stage contained 14.0% of total solids, 4.2% of lipids, 1.6% of proteins, and 6.2% of lactose, and the concentrations of Na, Cl, and K in the milk water were 7.4, 15.1, and 5.9 mM, respectively. From the 9th or 13th week of lactation onwards, according to the individual, the milk composition changed appreciably and the time during which the young left hold of the mother's nipple also increased. The weaning of young in the Japanese monkey appears to begin during the 3rd or 4th month of age. The milk production then wanes and almost ceases by the end of the 6th month. The nipple preference of the young was generally established completely by the 3rd, or the 8th at latest, week of age. However, no difference in either the yield or composition of the milk secreted was found between the mammary glands of the preferred and non-preferred sides. Without regard to the apparent nipple preference, infants seem to ingest milk from the mother's breasts of both sides. Accurate estimation of the rate of milk production could not be achieved, but the rate was expected to be 150–200 g/day at the height of lactation based on the relation between the mother's body weight and the milk production rates of other primate species. A disparity was noted between the observed and estimated values for the milk yield, and a diurnal fluctuation in the milk secretion of the Japanese monkey was inferred. This study was conducted through the official system of the Primate Research Institute, Kyoto University, for cooperative research work with other institutions.  相似文献

The aim of this paper was to study the relationship between milk flow emission variables recorded during milking of dairy goats with variables related to milking routine, goat physiology, milking parameters and milking machine characteristics, to determine the variables affecting milking performance and help the goat industry pinpoint farm and milking practices that improve milking performance. In total, 19 farms were visited once during the evening milking. Milking parameters (vacuum level (VL), pulsation ratio and pulsation rate, vacuum drop), milk emission flow variables (milking time, milk yield, maximum milk flow (MMF), average milk flow (AVMF), time until 500 g/min milk flow is established (TS500)), doe characteristics of 8 to 10 goats/farm (breed, days in milk and parity), milking practices (overmilking, overstripping, pre-lag time) and milking machine characteristics (line height, presence of claw) were recorded on every farm. The relationships between recorded variables and farm were analysed by a one-way ANOVA analysis. The relationships of milk yield, MMF, milking time and TS500 with goat physiology, milking routine, milking parameters and milking machine design were analysed using a linear mixed model, considering the farm as the random effect. Farm was significant (P<0.05) in all the studied variables. Milk emission flow variables were similar to those recommended in scientific studies. Milking parameters were adequate in most of the farms, being similar to those recommended in scientific studies. Few milking parameters and milking machine characteristics affected the tested variables: average vacuum level only showed tendency on MMF, and milk pipeline height on TS500. Milk yield (MY) was mainly affected by parity, as the interaction of days in milk with parity was also significant. Milking time was mainly affected by milk yield and breed. Also significant were parity, the interaction of days in milk with parity and overstripping, whereas overmilking showed a slight tendency. We concluded that most of the studied variables were mainly related to goat physiology characteristics, as the effects of milking parameters and milking machine characteristics were scarce.  相似文献

Automatic milking systems have made possible the separation of high- and low-quality milk at the udder quarter level during the milking process. The aim of this study was to investigate the composition and yield of milk from individual udder quarters to determine whether deteriorated milk composition occurs in udders that are assumed to be healthy and whether quarters with high-quality milk are found in udders with high milk somatic cell count (SCC). Milk samples were collected on one occasion from 90 cows at udder quarter level and cow composite level. The milk was analyzed for content of total protein, whey protein, casein, fat, lactose, citric acid and SCC; milk yield was registered. The cows were divided into three groups depending on the SCC of their composite milk. Cows in group 1, cow composite SCC < 100 000 cells/ml, were assumed to have healthy udders. However, instances of increased SCC and decreased milk quality were discovered in one or more udder quarters of approximately 30% of the group. Cows in group 2, cow composite SCC of 100 000 to 300 000 cells/ml, and group 3, cow composite SCC > 300 000 cells/ml, were assumed to have affected udders. However, the majority of these cows had one or more udder quarters in which increased SCC and deteriorated milk quality were not detected. Calculations of bulk-tank milk values, when separation of milk from affected udder quarters was performed, indicate that SCC changes to a much greater degree compared to the other milk components. These results show that milk from affected udder quarters suffers compositional changes, but calculations of simulated separation indicate that the compositional changes in bulk-tank milk are small. The effect of separation of milk from individual udder quarters on bulk-tank milk needs to be further studied.  相似文献

The diagnosis of pregnancy described in this article is based on the observation of milk ejection which, in the case of corpus luteum maintenance, results from the release of luteal oxytocin induced by intravenous administration of a non luteolytic dose of PGF2 alpha. The tests were performed in 410 lactating cows, 18-22 days after insemination (mean 19.95 days, SD 0.75), 3 h prior to the evening milking. A cannula was placed in the left fore-teat; when the cisternal milk flow ceased, a small dose of a prostaglandin F2 alpha analogue (256 micrograms Dinolytic) was injected. If a corpus luteum was present, the alveolar milk flow (1,276 +/- 570 ml) started 86 +/- 35 s later and pregnancy could be presumed. If the corpus luteum was no longer functional, the milk flow did not start again and the cow was considered not pregnant. The accuracy of positive results, ie 72.3%, significantly exceeded that obtained by radioimmunoassay of plasma progesterone used as a reference method, ie 68.6% (P less than 0.05). By contrast, the accuracy of negative results was lower, ie 93.5 vs 100%, (P less than 0.05): of the 195 pregnant cows which proceeded to term, 10 did not respond to the milk ejection test. In spite of these reserves, the test has the advantage of being inexpensive, rapid (about 5 min) and easy to interpret, ie either the milk flows or it does not. In addition, it may be used early, because from day 20 after Al the reliability of prediction of non pregnant cows (67.0%) was significantly higher when compared to the use of progesterone radioimmunoassay (58.6%) (P less than 0.05). With such a test, non pregnant cows can be reinseminated immediately and not only after a 3-week period. This may contribute to reducing the length of the infertile period.  相似文献

Research about mare’s milk is mainly focused on quality and information about quantity is incomplete partly due to the lack of a consensus on the method of measuring milk yield. The live weight, body condition at foaling and age of mares are factors influencing milk yield. The influence of mare parity, however, remains unclear. Over a period of 2 years (2018–2019), milk yield was evaluated on 65 mares (51 multiparous and 13 primiparous). Mares and foals were kept in a group at pasture. One method of milk yield measurement and one proxy method were applied; milking and weight-suckle-weight (WSW), respectively. The procedure was performed at five timepoints during the lactation period (3–30–60–90 and 180 days) without repetition. The relevance of WSW was addressed by studying the correlation between the two methods on 23 individuals. Factors influencing milk yield, through milking data, were studied on 57 individuals. Data was divided into two subsets. The first was an explanatory matrix containing the live weight of mares 24 h after parturition, parity, age, year of lactation and foal gender. The second was a response matrix containing data from milking at the five timepoints of the lactation. A correlation was found (RV = 0.41) between milking and WSW at day 3, however no correlation was found for other timepoints (RV ≤ 0.15). The live weight of the mare 24 h after foaling, age and parity appeared to have a significant impact on milk production (P < 0.05). Thus, older or multiparous mares showed a higher milk yield than younger or primiparous mares. In addition, mares with a higher live weight after foaling produced more milk than those with a lower live weight. Overall, results can lead us to two main conclusions. First, the WSW method performed at five different timepoints of the lactation, but without repeated measurements, is not an efficient way to estimate the milk yield of mares. Secondly, results concerning the live weight and age of mares were in accordance with previous studies. The influence of parity was also highlighted, confirming trends showed by other authors. Age and parity are closely related in our population, making it difficult to differentially assess their effects. Being able to identify the impact of both factors independently would benefit several sectors of the horse industry from sport to mare milk producers.  相似文献

Jennet milk production during the lactation in a Sicilian farming system   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
In Italy, the interest for jennet milk production has recently developed. An 18-month-long experiment was carried out on a jennet farm near Milo (CT), where 24 jennets, which derived from the Ragusana breed, were tested for milk yield and composition over an entire lactation period. The jennets were fed with hay and concentrate in a large paddock. From the 28th post-foaling day to the end of the lactation, the jennets were machine-milked twice a day with an in-between milking interval of 5 h. The milk amount from each jennet was recorded every 3 weeks and individual samples were collected and analyzed for fat, protein, casein, non-proteic nitrogen, lactose and somatic cell count. This study showed that jennets at Sicilian latitudes are not seasonal polyestrous. The daily milk yield, the length of lactation and the milk characteristics varied depending on the foaling season. The total average milk production was 490 ± 36 kg in 295 ± 12 post-foaling days, considering two milking records per day. During the lactation, milk yield decreased constantly from 1.98 to 1.28 kg/jennet per day. When looking at the jennet milk quality during lactation, the percentage of fat and protein decreased, while the lactose percentage increased, according to a tendency apparently unique for equines when compared to the ruminants. When looking at the productive season, spring generally gave the best qualitative and quantitative results. Based on these results, jennet milk yield and quality could be improved; furthermore, jennet milk production may turn out to be a profitable business.  相似文献

This article discusses the consequences of different suckling systems in the industrial countries for the milk production, udder health, reproduction and behaviour of high producing dairy cows and the effects on the gain, health and behaviour of the calves. The suckling systems are divided into three different categories depending on the purpose and duration of the suckling period. Long-term suckling with or without additional milking covering the period where the calf has a nutritional need for milk, and short-term suckling, where cow and calf are kept together in the colostrum period only.Long-term suckling without additional milking in early lactation can in some situations stimulate the subsequent milk production to a greater extent than milking alone. No clear or significant differences can be found between restricted and free suckling systems. Most experiments show that suckling decreases the risk of mastitis in the suckling period and in some cases even for some time after the suckling has been terminated. Suckling and milking during the same period is not advantageous in production turns because of a very poor ejection of milk. Long-term suckling can increase the post-partum interval until first heat, in some cases until the end of the suckling period. However, as the cows appear to be more fertile, the net effect on reproduction is small. The suckled calves are usually healthy with a high daily gain. Short-term suckling have more advantages than disadvantages on production, health and behaviour of both the cow and the calf compared to an immediate separation after birth.  相似文献
