The influence of some aliphatic alcohols on oxygen uptake, carbon dioxide production, acid formation and lactate and pyruvate concentrations of rat liver slices was studied. At the concentrations used, none of the alcohols was found to influence oxygen uptake. Of the alcohols that are not oxidized by liver alcohol dehydrogenase, methanol increased carbon dioxide production, propan-2-ol decreased it and 2-methylpropan-2-ol was without influence. All the alcohols that are oxidized by the enzyme strongly decreased carbon dioxide production. The alcohols that are not oxidized had no marked effect on the lactate/pyruvate concentration ratio, whereas the other alcohols strongly increased the ratio. A highly significant correlation was found between the effects of the alcohol on pyruvate concentration and carbon dioxide production. It is assumed that the shift in the redox potential inhibits the function of the tricarboxylic acid cycle of the liver.  相似文献

Abscisic acid hastened senescence of carnation flowers and this was preceded by stimulation of accelerated ethylene production. Carbon dioxide delayed the onset of autocatalytic ethylene production in flowers regardless of treatment with abscisic acid. Flowers exhibited a low and transient climacteric of ethylene production without wilting while in 4% carbon dioxide and underwent accelerated ethylene production culminating in wilting when removed from carbon dioxide. Hypobaric ventilation, which lowers ethylene to hyponormal levels within tissues, extended flower longevity and largely negated enhancement of senescence by abscisic acid. Supplementing hypobarically ventilated flowers with ethylene hastened senescence irrespective of abscisic acid treatment. Collectively, the data indicate that abscisic acid hastens senescence of carnations largely as a result of advancing the onset of autocatalytic ethylene production.  相似文献

The rumen fermentation rates in individual lactating cows were measured in four different experiments. The results disclosed that the amounts and proportions of volatile acids formed could vary widely. In one case, a marked difference in the proportions of the acids produced arose within the experiment and correlated with a difference in the proportion of methane formed.

The average rate of production per day was 10.5 moles butyric acid, 12.8 moles propionic acid, and 40 moles acetic acid. Manometric estimations of rate gave lower results than those obtained by the zero-time method, due to delay after sampling and to failure of the acids to liberate stoichiometric quantities of carbon dioxide.

For those experiments in which zero-time rates were estimated, the average specific absorption rates, i.e., the amount absorbed per hour per micromole of acid in the rumen, were 0.37 for butyric acid, 0.38 for propionic acid, and 0.26 for acetic acid.

The carbon dioxide, acids, and microbial cells produced in the rumen fermentation are estimated to account for about 90% of the carbon found in the milk and respiratory CO2 of the cows. The carbon dioxide from the fermentation was about 27% of the carbon dioxide exhaled.

Germination, ethylene production, and carbon dioxide production by dormant Virginia-type peanuts were determined during treatments with plant growth regulators. Kinetin, benzylaminopurine, and 2-chloroethylphosphonic acid induced extensive germination above the water controls. Benzylaminopurine and 2-chloroethylphosphonic acid increased the germination of the more dormant basal seeds to a larger extent above the controls than the less dormant apical seeds. Coumarin induced a slight stimulation of germination while abscisic acid, 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, and succinic acid 2,2-dimethylhydrazide did not stimulate germination above the controls. In addition to stimulating germination, the cytokinins also stimulated ethylene production by the seeds. In the case of benzylaminopurine, where the more dormant basal seeds were stimulated to germinate above the control to a larger extent than the less dormant apical seeds, correspondingly more ethylene production was induced in the basal seeds. However, the opposite was true of kinetin for both germination and ethylene production. When germination was extensively stimulated by the cytokinins, maximal ethylene and carbon dioxide evolution occurred at 24 and 72 hours, respectively. Abscisic acid inhibited ethylene production and germinaton of the seeds while carbon dioxide evolution was comparatively high. The crucial physiological event for germination of dormant peanut seeds was enhancement of ethylene production by the seeds.  相似文献

Summary Sixteen slow-growing strains of rhizobia (15 cowpea rhizobia and oneR. japonicum) were examined to determine the effects of carbon and nitrogen sources on acid/alkali production in culture media. We found that the pH changes of the medium were more influenced by nitrogen sources than carbon sources (with the exception of ribose). When ammonium sulphate was used as a nitrogen source, all the cowpea rhizobia strains produced acid. When yeast-extract was used as a nitrogen source, however, a heterogenous pattern for acid/alkali production was found. The majority of the strains produced alkali from nitrate, glutamate and urea irrespective of carbon sources and acid from ribose irrespective of nitrogen sources.  相似文献

Glycollic acid production by Chlorella was measured by colorimetricdetermination of the acid excreted into the medium. It was foundthat glycollic acid production showed a maximum at a low concentrationof carbon dioxide but tended toward zero as the rate of photosynthesisapproached carbon dioxide saturation. Glycollic acid productionbecame measurable at light intensities approaching that requiredto saturate photosynthesis and increased steadily with furtherincrease in intensity. Treatment with isonicotinyl hydrazideresulted in an approximately threefold stimulation of glycollicacid concentration over the range of conditions used. It issuggested that the precursor of glycollic acid is ribulose diphosphate,and that isonicotinyl hydrazide acts by inhibiting the furthermetabolism of glycollic acid.  相似文献

1. Methane was produced in vitro by incubating cell suspensions of rumen bacteria with glucose, under nitrogen. The amount of methane produced varied considerably and was lowered by high glucose concentrations. Carbon dioxide, acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid and lactic acid were also produced. An oxidation–reduction balance of near unity could be calculated, although carbon recovery was low. Under the experimental conditions, rumen bacteria used most of the metabolic hydrogen produced during the oxidation of glucose to form lactic acid. 2. Lower methane production at high glucose concentrations was balanced by higher lactic acid production. Low pH values due to a high production rate of lactic acid might explain the inhibition of methane production. 3. No lactic acid, less methane, but considerably more propionic acid were formed when nitrogen was replaced by carbon dioxide in the incubation system.  相似文献

A continuous flow system was used to study the interactions between carbon dioxide and ethylene in intact sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) plants. An increase in the concentration of carbon dioxide above the ambient level (0.033%) in the atmosphere surrounding the plants increased the rate of ethylene production, and a decrease in carbon dioxide concentration resulted in a decrease in the rate of ethylene production. The change in the rate of ethylene production was evident within the first 15 minutes of the carbon dioxide treatment. Continuous treatment with carbon dioxide was required to maintain increased rate of ethylene production. The rate of carbon dioxide fixation increased in response to high carbon dioxide treatment up to 1.0%. Further increases in carbon dioxide concentration had no additional effect on carbon dioxide fixation. Carbon dioxide concentrations higher than 0.11% induced hyponasty of the leaves whereas treatment with 1 microliter per liter ethylene induced epinasty of the leaves.  相似文献

Carboxylation reactions widely occur in nature by the direct use of carbon dioxide or hydrogen carbonate and are mediated by enzymes, which may or may not have a metal as an active center. Such direct carboxylation reactions have found only very few applications for synthetic purposes at industrial level. In this paper we review a part of the work we have done on the use of carbon dioxide and describe: (i) the use of a carboxylation enzyme for the conversion of phenol into 4-OH benzoic acid; and (ii) the potential of biomimetic mixed anhydrides for the synthesis of compounds of industrial interest. The enzymatic production of acetic acid from carbon dioxide is compared with known and new transition metal catalyzed reactions that are fully biomimetic.  相似文献

During fermentative metabolism, carbon dioxide fixation plays a key role in many bacteria regarding growth and production of organic acids. The present contribution, dealing with the facultative photosynthetic bacterium Rhodospirillum rubrum, reveals not only the strong influence of ambient carbon dioxide on the fermentative break-down of fructose but also a high impact on aerobic growth with fructose as sole carbon source. Both growth rates and biomass yield increased with increasing carbon dioxide supply in chemoheterotrophic aerobic cultures. Furthermore, intracellular metabolite concentration measurements showed almost negligible concentrations of the tricarboxylic acid cycle intermediates succinate, fumarate and malate under aerobic growth, in contrast to several metabolites of the glycolysis. In addition, we present a dual phase fed-batch process, where an aerobic growth phase is followed by an anaerobic production phase. The biosynthesis of bacteriochlorophyll and the secretion of organic acids were both affected by the carbon dioxide supply, the pH value and by the cell density at the time of switching from aerobic to anaerobic conditions. The formation of pigmented photosynthetic membranes and the amount of bacteriochlorophyll were inversely correlated to the secretion of succinate. Accounting the high biotechnological potential of R. rubrum, optimization of carbon dioxide supply is important because of the favored application of fructose-containing fermentable feedstock solutions in bio-industrial processes.  相似文献

The potassium contraction of skeletal muscle and relaxation of cardiac muscle have been correlated with the carbon dioxide and total acid production of these tissues. 1. The immersion of surviving sartorius muscles of the frog in isotonic potassium chloride solution causes a marked increase in the rate of acid production. 2. It is probable that carbon dioxide is the principal acid involved in the above effect. 3. The immersion of surviving cardiac muscle of the frog in isotonic potassium chloride solution causes a pronounced depression in the rate of survival acid production. 4. Reasons are given for believing that these changes in metabolism may be independent of the stimulation and inhibition of contraction which potassium simultaneously produces in these tissues.  相似文献

A molecular dynamics (MD) simulation was applied to carbon dioxide+trifluoromethylbenzoic acid isomer and carbon dioxide+methylbenzoic acid isomer systems to investigate the interactions between carbon dioxide and the solutes. The pair correlation functions between the carbon dioxide and trifluoromethyl group or methyl group in the solutes were calculated to study the fluorination effect of solvation. As a result, it was found that the interactions between carbon dioxide and trifluoromethyl group in trifluoromethylbenzoic acid isomers were stronger than those between carbon dioxide and the methyl group in methylbenzoic acid isomers. The simulation results had the same tendency as the experimental solubility enhancements and coincided with the trend of the interaction parameters of the Peng-Robinson equation of state that were determined from the solubility data.  相似文献

Six bacterial strains were isolated and acclimatized on distillery waste. The performance of these bacterial strains in respect to growth, reduction in chemical oxygen demand (COD) values, carbon dioxide production and volatile acid production were studied on five different substrates. Glucose and xylose exhibited growth patterns similar to that on spentwash. Glucose, xylose, casein hydrolysate and amino acids led to very good reduction in COD values compared with glycerol. Rate of substrate consumption was maximum in the case of glucose followed by amino acids, casein hydrolysate, xylose and glycerol. Production of volatile acids and carbon dioxide from glucose amounted to ≈ 50% of the theoretical yield based on glycolysis and the tricarboxylic acid cycle. Production of carbon dioxide followed the usual microbiological growth pattern while volatile acids did not show any such pattern. Carbon dioxide and volatile acids appear to be the major degradation products in distillery waste treatment by these bacteria.  相似文献

Behavioural responses of Triatoma infestans larvae to carbon dioxide and other odours of vertebrate origin were investigated in a locomotion compensator. T. infestans oriented towards airstreams enriched with carbon dioxide exhibiting a threshold response between 300 and 400 p.p.m. above the ambient CO(2) background. The accuracy of the oriented response to carbon dioxide improved with stimulus intensity. Remarkably, insects did not show any change in their sensitivity threshold to carbon dioxide with the starvation time. The attractiveness to carbon dioxide depended on the time of the day, i.e. these nocturnal bugs only oriented towards carbon dioxide-loaded airstreams during the first hours of the scotophase. L-lactic acid did not evoke oriented responses when it was presented as a single stimulus in a wide range of intensities. However, a marked synergism was evident when L-lactic acid was combined with a sub-threshold concentration of carbon dioxide. Under this condition, the threshold response to carbon dioxide decreased to 75-150 p.p.m. above ambient CO(2) background. The isomer D-lactic acid evoked no response, either alone or in combination with carbon dioxide. When insects were stimulated with 1-octen-3-ol a significant positive orientation was found. This response was not modified by the addition of carbon dioxide.  相似文献

The oxygen production of a photosynthetic gas exchanger containing Chlorella pyrenoidosa (1% packed cell volume) was measured when various concentrations of carbon dioxide were present within the culture unit. The internal carbon dioxide concentrations were obtained by manipulating the entrance gas concentration and the flow rate. Carbon dioxide percentages were monitored by means of electrodes placed directly in the nutrient medium. The concentration of carbon dioxide in the nutrient medium which produced maximal photosynthesis was in the range of 1.5 to 2.5% by volume. Results were unaffected by either the level of carbon dioxide in the entrance gas or the rate of gas flow. Entrance gases containing 2% carbon dioxide flowing at 320 ml/min, 3% carbon dioxide at 135 ml/min, and 4% carbon dioxide at 55 ml/min yielded optimal carbon dioxide concentrations in the particular unit studied. By using carbon dioxide electrodes implanted directly in the gas exchanger to optimize the carbon dioxide concentration throughout the culture medium, it should be possible to design more efficient large-scale units.  相似文献

The chemical reactions involving carbon dioxide in mineral culture media are considered. A mathematic model is set up, based on published data, which is valid at pH values below 9, and in which the nonideality of the solution is taken into account. The crucial parameter is the constant expressing the equilibrium between carbon dioxide and bicarbonate, K(1).The reactions were studied in three different aqueous solutions: water, mineral salt medium, and a suspension with nongrowing bacterial cells. For each situation, three methods were compared for the determination of the bicarbonate concentration in the solution: equilibrium state total carbon analysis, dynamic monitoring of the rate of acid or alkali addition, and dynamic measurement of the carbon dioxide gas phase mole fraction.In a batch-stirred tank reactor, the equilibrium constant K(1) agreed with the published value, and the three bicarbonate analysis methods give the same results. If the nonideality is not taken into account, the result significantly differed from the published value and is likely to be incorrect.A real alkalophilic process, using Acinetobacter calcoaceticus in a continuous stirred tank reactor at steady state, also gave results that are in accord with the literature. However, the results do not allow validation of the equation expressing the nonideality.The steady state in the batch system and in continuous culture can be well described with the mathematical model. However, in the transient state there are some unexplained differences between simulation and measurement.  相似文献

【目的】提高发酵罐的罐压,增加维生素B12的产率。【方法】利用常规代谢通量分析(MFA)方法,对脱氮假单胞菌生产维生素B12的发酵过程进行研究。【结果】发现随着VB12合成速率的加快,磷酸烯醇式丙酮酸(PEP)羧化生成草酰乙酸(OAA)的通量明显加大,以满足维生素B12合成对前体的需求。根据该分析结果,对发酵工艺进行了改进,即在脱氮假单胞菌进入合成维生素B12阶段时,提高发酵罐的罐压,增加发酵液中二氧化碳的溶解度,从而强化了羧化回补途径。维生素B12的产率明显增加,发酵160 h的产物浓度为176 mg/L,比对照批次终浓度147 mg/L高出了19.7%。【结论】通过增大罐压提高了脱氮假单胞菌进入合成维生素B12的产量。  相似文献

Turner and Quartley (1956) concluded that the tricarboxylicacid cycle was a major respiratory pathway in green shelledpeas subjected to high pressures of oxygen. Additional supportfor this view has been obtained by demonstrating the depletionin content of oxaloacetic acid during treatment with oxygenand by the complete reversal of all the functions determinedfollowing a return of the samples to air after treatment forshort periods with oxygen at high pressures. Oxygen at pressures of either 5 or 3.5 atmospheres caused asimilar pattern in the behaviour of the carbon dioxide production,pH, citric and keto-acids, whilst oxygen at a pressure of 2atm. affected mainly the carbon dioxide production. This suggeststhat the respiration process can be inhibited by oxygen at highpressures in at least two different stages.  相似文献

Various processes for the production of carbon dioxide by microorganisms are presented. It is postulated that a 'microniche' developed in a reducing environment; a symbiotic relationship between alga-like organisms and bacterium-like organisms in the 'microniche' governed the production of carbon dioxide resulting in the establishment of the steady state carbon dioxide system in the sea.  相似文献
