Signals from different systems are analyzed during sleep on a beat-to-beat basis to provide a quantitative measure of synchronization with the heart rate variability (HRV) signal, oscillations of which reflect the action of the autonomic nervous system. Beat-to-beat variability signals synchronized to QRS occurrence on ECG signals were extracted from respiration, electroencephalogram (EEG) and electromyogram (EMG) traces. The analysis was restricted to sleep stage 2. Cyclic alternating pattern (CAP) periods were detected from EEG signals and the following conditions were identified: stage 2 non-CAP (2 NCAP), stage 2 CAP (2 CAP) and stage 2 CAP with myoclonus (2 CAP MC). The coupling relationships between pairs of variability signals were studied in both the time and frequency domains. Passing from 2 NCAP to 2 CAP, sympathetic activation is indicated by tachycardia and reduced respiratory arrhythmia in the heart rate signal. At the same time, we observed a marked link between EEG and HRV at the CAP frequency. During 2 CAP MC, the increased synchronization involved myoclonus and respiration. The underlying mechanism seems to be related to a global control system at the central level that involves the different systems.  相似文献

To the best of our knowledge, there is no simple way to induce neural networks to shift from waking mode into sleeping mode. Our best guess is that a whole group of neurons would be involved and that the process would develop in a period of time and a sequence which are mostly unknown. The quasi-total sensory deprivation elicits a new behavioral state called somnolence. Auditory stimulation as well as total auditory deprivation alter sleep architecture. Auditory units exhibiting firing shifts on passing to sleep (augmenting or diminishing) are postulated to be locked to sleep-related networks. Those ( approximately 50%) that did not change during sleep are postulated to continue informing the brain as in wakefulness. A rhythmic functional plasticity of involved networks is postulated. A number of auditory and visual cells have demonstrated a firing phase locking to the hippocampal theta rhythm. This phase locking occurs both during wakefulness and sleep phases. The theta rhythm may act as an organizer of sensory information in visual and auditory systems, in all behavioral states adding a temporal dimension to the sensory processing. Sensory information from the environment and body continuously modulates the central nervous system activity, over which sleep phenomenology must develop. It also produces a basal tonus during wakefulness and sleep, determining changes in the networks that contribute to sleep development and maintenance and, eventually, it also leads to sleep interruption.  相似文献

Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) affects 9–24% of the adult population. OSA is associated with atrial disease, including atrial enlargement, fibrosis and arrhythmias. Despite the link between OSA and cardiac disease, the molecular changes in the heart which occur with OSA remain elusive. To study OSA‐induced cardiac changes, we utilized a recently developed rat model which closely recapitulates the characteristics of OSA. Male Sprague Dawley rats, aged 50–70 days, received surgically implanted tracheal balloons which were inflated to cause transient airway obstructions. Rats were given 60 apnoeas per hour of either 13 sec. (moderate apnoea) or 23 sec. (severe apnoea), 8 hrs per day for 2 weeks. Controls received implants, but no inflations were made. Pulse oximetry measurements were taken at regular intervals, and post‐apnoea ECGs were recorded. Rats had longer P wave durations and increased T wave amplitudes following chronic OSA. Proteomic analysis of the atrial tissue homogenates revealed that three of the nine enzymes in glycolysis, and two proteins related to oxidative phosphorylation, were down regulated in the severe apnoea group. Several sarcomeric and pro‐hypertrophic proteins were also up regulated with OSA. Chronic OSA causes proteins changes in the atria which suggest impairment of energy metabolism and enhancement of hypertrophy.  相似文献

目的:探索皮质脊髓束(CST)电生理信号的采集记录方法,分析描述电信号的特征,从而为通过植入式微电极阵列进行信号采集的记录方法建立一定的实验基础,为将来进一步研究脊髓损伤修复与功能重建提供有价值的神经电生理基础资料。方法:使用神经信号采集处理系统(Cerebus System),在SD大鼠的脊髓T8节段处的皮质脊髓束内通过插入微电极,记录大鼠皮质脊髓束神经电信号。利用神经信号分析软件Offline Sorter、Neuroexplorer对已存储的信号文件进行波形特点的描述,包括波长、波幅、放电频率、同一电极上记录到的不同放电单元之间的同步性、两根电极上记录到的不同放电单元之间的同步性、放电信号的峰间期(ISI)分析等。结果:长时间稳定记录到连续的皮质脊髓束自发放电信号,一般在同一电极上记录到3~4个来自不同放电单位(细胞)的放电信号。皮质脊髓束自发放电信号的波形呈双向型,波宽为0.6~1.3 ms,波幅为百μV级。在多次实验状态下均能达到很高的信噪比,信号采集效果理想。经快蓝(LFB)染色确认记录电极尖端位于皮质脊髓束内。结论:本实验采用Cere-bus神经信号采集处理系统,利用记录电极可在大鼠的皮质脊髓束内较长时间稳定地记录到较为稳定的微伏级神经电信号,并可进行有意义的神经电信号特征分析,为进一步研究脊髓损伤修复与功能重建提供了有价值的神经电生理基础资料。  相似文献

Two types of electrocardiographic data series were investigated using appropriate tests based on a selection of semi-quantitative analysis algorithms. Distribution histograms, power spectra, auto-correlation functions, state-space portraits, Lyapunov exponents and wavelet transformations were applied to electrocardiograms of normal and stressed subjects. Statistical analysis using the Student's t-test revealed significant and non-significant alterations in stress-loaded cases compared to normal ones. Higher levels of adrenaline may account for a more complex dynamics (deterministic chaos) revealed in the stressed subjects.  相似文献

Recent multidimensional liquid chromatography MS/MS studies have contributed to the identification of large numbers of expressed proteins for numerous species. The present study couples size exclusion chromatography of intact proteins with the separation of tryptically digested peptides using a combination of strong cation exchange and high resolution, reversed phase capillary chromatography to identify proteins extracted from human mammary epithelial cells (HMECs). In addition to conventional conservative criteria for protein identifications, the confidence levels were additionally increased through the use of peptide normalized elution times (NET) for the liquid chromatographic separation step. The combined approach resulted in a total of 5838 unique peptides identified covering 1574 different proteins with an estimated 4% gene coverage of the human genome, as annotated by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). This database provides a baseline for comparison against variations in other genetically and environmentally perturbed systems. Proteins identified were categorized based upon intracellular location and biological process with the identification of numerous receptors, regulatory proteins, and extracellular proteins, demonstrating the usefulness of this application in the global analysis of human cells for future comparative studies.  相似文献

Conclusion Windows represents an attractive environment in which to implement a data analysis program. This environment benefits from a number of tools and programs that allow manipulation and analysis data interactively. Windows also has networking facilities that enable analysis of data from any microcomputer connected to the network. This approach leads to more efficient use of electrophysiological set-ups. Object-oriented development tools provide new opportunities to develop applications for neuroscientists and should facilitate sharing independently designed algorithms.  相似文献

In rats with the persistent alcohol motivation the electrophysiological sleep pattern was studied during ethanol intake, after 24 and 48 hours of alcohol withdrawal. It was established that during the voluntary ethanol intake rats may be divided into two groups: with comparative deficit (1st group) and comparative abundance (2nd group) of REM sleep. Alcohol withdrawal caused differential alterations of sleep-wakefulness cycle: in the 1st group of rats REM sleep was more suppressed while in the 2nd group--more increased in comparison to those during ethanol intake. In all animals the SWS depression, increase of awakenings, the aggravation of falling asleep and decrease of sleep depth were observed. DSIP (0.1 mg/kg, i.p. 1 hour before sleep recording) was found to regulate sleep disorders caused by ethanol withdrawal. It makes the neuropeptide possible to be recommended for ethanol withdrawal syndrome treatment in clinical practice.  相似文献

Environmental stress has been suggested to be a major evolutionary force, both through inducing strong selection and because of its direct impact on developmental buffering processes that alter the evolvability of organisms. In particular, temperature has attracted much attention because of its importance as an ecological feature and the relative ease with which it can be experimentally manipulated in the lab. Evolution Canyon, Lower Nahal Oren, Israel, is a well studied natural site where ecological parameters are suspected to drive evolutionary differentiation. In this study, using Drosophila melanogaster isofemale lines derived from wild flies collected on both slopes of the canyon, we investigated the effect of developmental temperature upon the different components of phenotypic variation of a complex trait: the wing. Combining geometric and traditional morphometrics, we find only limited evidence for a differentiation among slopes. Investigating simultaneously phenotypic plasticity, genetic variation among isofemale lines, variation among individuals and fluctuating asymmetry, we could not identify a consistent effect of the stressful conditions encountered on the south facing slope. The prevailing structuring effect is that of the experimentally manipulated temperature which clearly influences wing mean size and shape. Variability, in contrast, is not consistently affected by temperature. Finally, we investigated the specific relationship between individual variation and fluctuating asymmetry. Using metric multi-dimensional scaling we show that the related patterns of wing shape variation are not identical, supporting the view that the underlying developmental processes are to a certain extent different.  相似文献

ObjectivesThe electroencephalogram (EEG) signal contains information about the state and condition of the brain. The aim of the study is to conduct a nonlinear analysis of the EEG signals and to compare the differences in the nonlinear characteristics of the EEG during normal state and the epileptic state.DataThe EEG data used for this study – which consisted of epileptic EEG and normal EEG – were obtained from the EEG database available with the Bonn University, Germany.ResultsThe attractors seen in normal and epileptic human brain dynamics were studied and compared. Surrogate data analyses were conducted on two nonlinear measures, namely the largest Lyapunov exponent and the correlation dimension, to test the hypothesis whether EEG signals were in accordance with linear stochastic models.DiscussionsThe existence of deterministic chaos in brain activity is confirmed by the existence of a chaotic attractor; also, saturation of the correlation dimension towards a definite value is the manifestation of a deterministic dynamics. Also a reduction is observed between the dimensionalities of the brain attractors from normal state to the epileptic state. The evaluation of the largest Lyapunov exponent also confirms the lowering of complexity during an episode of seizure.ConclusionIn case of Lyapunov exponent of EEG data, the change due to surrogating is small suggesting that it is not representing the system complexity properly but there is a marked change in the case of correlation dimension value due to surrogating.  相似文献

Using modified Porsolt's method, the electrophysiological sleep pattern was studied in normal conditions and after a single intraperitoneal ethanol injection to noninbred male albino rats divided into 2 groups ("high activity" and "low activity" rats). Voluntary alcohol intake in these rats was measured during free choice between 10% ethanol and water for 20 days. "Low activity" rats were characterized by a statistically significant 3.4-fold higher level of ethanol consumption and 2.7-fold longer REM-sleep stage, as compared to "high activity" animals. In "low activity" animals ethanol (1 g/k, 10% solution, i. p.) inhibits and in "high activity" rats it increases REM-sleep stage, thus removing differences in the sleep pattern in the two groups of rats. The data obtained suggest a possible role of REM-sleep in the development of alcohol motivation.  相似文献
