Summary The morphological and topographical features of the intramural enteric nervous system in the small intestine of the pig has been studied on whole mounts by means of neuron-specific enolase (NSE) and S-100 protein immu-nohistochemistry. A clear visualization of the myenteric plexus allows the recognition of its characteristic morphology, including the thin tertiary plexus coursing within the smooth muscle layers. In the tela submucosa two ganglionated plexuses, each with its own specific characteristics, can clearly be demonstrated: (1) the plexus submucosus externus (Schabadasch) located near the inner surface of the circular muscle layer at the abluminal side of the submucosal vascular arcades, and (2) the plexus submucosus internus (Meissner) close to the outer surface of the lamina muscularis mucosae at the luminal side of the submucosal vascular arcades. Due to the possibility to trace clearly the perivascular plexuses of these vascular arcades by use of immunohistochemical techniques with antibodies to NSE and S-100 protein, the two submucosal nerve plexuses can be demonstrated with exceptional clarity. This is the first report of an investigation of the intramural nerve plexuses of the small intestine of the pig using the NSE and S-100 immunostaining methods, which is sufficiently detailed to substantiate the characteristic topography and structure of the two submucosal plexuses and their relation to the smooth muscle layers and perivascular plexuses. The level of NSE immunoreactivity for enteric neurons displays great variation, a substantial proportion of the type-II neurons appearing strongly stained. Although little is known of the specific function of these enzymes, proposals are discussed.  相似文献

The distribution of adrenergic fibres in the ganglionated plexuses of the porcine small intestine has been made on air-dried stretch preparations using the glyoxylic acid fluorescence method. Adrenergic fluorescent fibres occur in the ganglia and internodal strands of the three fundamental ganglionated plexuses: the myenteric plexus (Auerbach) and the two superimposed meshworks of the plexus submucosus , i.e. the plexus submucosus externus ( Schabadasch ) and the plexus submucosus internus (Meissner). The plexus Auerbach consists of densely glyoxylic acid induced fluorescent (GIF) elongated ganglia with in general a longitudinal axis running parallel to the circular muscle layer and large dense interconnecting fibre tracts with primary, secondary and tertiary subdivisions. In the ganglia, the fibres are varicose, forming large fluorescent 'baskets' which might be related to the occurrence of well defined enteric neurones. The plexus Schabadasch can be distinguished from the plexus Meissner by its size, strongly fluorescent ganglia and broad densely fluorescent internodal strands. The pattern of fluorescing ring-like formations at the margin and out of the nodes, clearly present in the Auerbach and Schabadasch plexuses, completely lack in the plexus Meissner, the latter being narrow-meshed with smaller fluorescent 'baskets', indicating that the corresponding neurones are smaller in size. In the ganglionic nodes of all three plexuses the axons display comparatively more varicosities than in the fibre tracts. Each of the three main ganglionated enteric plexuses are quite different with regard to the pattern of the adrenergic network both in the ganglia and in the strands.  相似文献

The origin, distribution, and termination pattern of nerves supplying the vertebral column and its associated structures have been studied in the human fetus by means of an acetylcholinesterase whole-mount method. The vertebral column is surrounded by ventral and dorsal nerve plexuses which are interconnected. The ventral nerve plexus consists of the nerve plexus associated with the anterior longitudinal ligament. This longitudinally oriented nerve plexus has a bilateral supply from many small branches of the sympathetic trunk, rami communicantes, and perivascular nerve plexuses of segmental arteries. In the thoracic region, the ventral nerve plexus also is connected to the nerve plexuses of costovertebral joints. The dorsal nerve plexus is made up of the nerve plexus associated with the posterior longitudinal ligament. This nerve plexus is more irregular and receives contributions only from the sinu-vertebral nerves. The sinu-vertebral nerves originate from the rami communicantes and, in the cervical region, also from the nerve plexus of the vertebral artery. Thick and thin sinu-vertebral nerves are found. Most frequently three types of thick sinu-vertebral nerves are observed, i.e., ascending, descending, or dichotomizing ones. Finally, the distribution of the branches of the ventral and dorsal nerve plexuses and of the sinu-vertebral nerves is described.  相似文献

In preparations impregnated with silver nitrate (25 corpses of mature persons), the hemomicrocirculatory bed of the intestine wall tunics has been stated to possess a layer-by-layer organization. The most powerful submucosal vascular plexus, formed by branches of the arteries perforating the external tunics of the intestine, supplies with blood all the layers of the intestinal wall and their main working and integrating elements: intestinal and duodenal glands, villi, neural ganglia and trunks of the submucosal and intermuscular plexuses. Summarizing morphometrical criteria for estimating the capillary bed of the tunics of all the anatomical parts and the large duodenal papilla, it is clear that there are specific conditions in microvascularization of the upper part of the organ.  相似文献

The architecture and neurochemistry of the enteric nervous system was studied by use of whole-mount preparations obtained by microdissection of the horse jejunum. A myenteric plexus and two plexuses within the submucosa were identified. The external submucosal plexus lying in the outermost region of the submucosa had both neural and vascular connections with the inner submucosal plexus situated closer to the mucosa. Counts of neurones stained for NADH-diaphorase demonstrated the wide variation in size, shape and neurone content of individual ganglia in both the external and internal submucosal plexuses. The average number of cells/ganglion was similar in each plexus (about 25 cells). Immunoreactivities for galanin, vasoactive intestinal peptide and neuropeptide Y were observed in nerve cell bodies and fibres of each of the plexuses. Immunoreactivity for substance P was extensive and strong in nerve fibres of all plexuses but was weaker in cell bodies of the submucosal neurones and absent in the cell bodies of the myenteric plexus. Comparative quantitative analysis of immunoreactive cell populations with total cell numbers (enzyme staining) was indicative of neuropeptide colocalization in the external submucosal plexus.  相似文献

The cholinergic innervation of the pulmonary circulation was studied in man. Both extra- and intrapulmonary branches of the pulmonary artery and vein are provided with a cholinergic of the vein. In the main branches of the pulmonary vessels, the existence of two nerve plexuses, a superficial and a deep one, was observed. The superficial plexus is localized in the outer adventitial layer while the deeper plexus is localized in the adventitial-medial transitional zone. In smaller arteries and veins, the existence of a single plexus (adventitial-medial) was observed. In some specimens, the presence of diffuse masses of acetylcholinesterase (AChE)-positive material or elbow-shaped AChE-positive formations was observed. The nature of these formations as well as the possible functional role of a cholinergic system in the pulmonary circulation are discussed.  相似文献

By means of transmissive and scanning electron microscopy 103 gingival bioptates in practically healthy persons at the age of 18-80 years have been studied. At ageing essential changes take place in all structural elements of the epithelium. The basal membrane is intermittent and loose. In cytoplasm of the cells of the basal layer epithelium the amount of microfilaments increases essentially, and as a result it becomes electron opaque. Tonofibrillar fasciculi of the spinous layer cells are fragmented, their contours are indistinct. In cytoplasm of the granular layer cells amount of keratohyalin granules increases, their size becomes large and their typical form is lost. In cytoplasm of the basal, spinous and granular layer cells the amount of organells decreases. Mitochondria acquire the appearance of electron translucent cavities with discomplexic, and sometimes, destroyed cristae. Rather great changes occur in intercellular interrelations. In all the layers some intercellular spaces are widen, in the spaces formed isolated desmosomes and other debries of cellular structures are formed. Sharp changes of microrelief of the granular layer epitheliocytes are observed. The ultrastructural rearrangements of epitheliocytes, revealed in the human gingiva, demonstrate certain disturbances in keratinization processes, in mechanical firmness, as well as in barrier function of the epithelial layer.  相似文献

Distribution, localization, and morphological peculiarities of NO-ergic nerve cells in the intestine of the snow sculpin Myoxocephalus brandti (Cottidae family) were studied using histochemical staining for NADPH-diaphorase ( NADPH-d). These cells were shown to be present in the pyloric appendages, middle and posterior parts of the intestine and in its rectal part. The NO-ergic cells are the most numerous in the myenteric plexus and circular muscle layer of all studied parts of the intestine. Single NO-ergic nerve cells are revealed in the submucosal plexus of pyloric appendages, middle and posterior parts of the intestine. No NO-ergic neural cells were found in subserosal and subepithelial plexuses, longitudinal layer of smooth muscle in all studied parts, and in the submucosal plexus of the rectal part of the intestine.  相似文献

Using light and electron microscopy and immunocytochemistry methods, structural organization of the formed blood-cerebrospinal fluid barrier (BCSFB) of the human brain choroid plexus in embryos of 6–9 weeks of development was studied. The main structures peculiar to the mature BCSFB have been established to appear with formation of the choroid plexus at the end of the 2nd month of the human intrauterine development. Fenestrae in the choroid plexus capillary endothelium are revealed since the 9th week of prenatal development. Characteristic of the human embryonic BCSFB are a poor development of the plexus capillary basal membrane, scanty pericytes, a high activity of interstitial macrophages, which suggests the barrier immaturity. A significant amount of cytoplasmic glycogen inclusions revealed in plexus epitheliocytes seems to be due to peculiar trophic requirements of developing brain cells under conditions of an insufficient development of the local blood supply.  相似文献

The intraorganic veins of the human urinary bladder have been studied in a vast sectional material. The veins within the organ make an enormous multilayered plexus which is differently organized in various layers of its wall. Abundant anastomoses, multiplicated ways for outflow from every layer, manifested interactions between the venous plexuses are specific for the intraorganic venous bed of the urinary bladder. The structures for an active regulating the hemomicrocirculatory blood stream are widely presented in the urinary bladder. The occurrence of neurons possessing high-affinity uptake sites for GABA was studied in the myenteric plexus of the guinea-pig ileum, caecum, and proximal and distal colon, the rat proximal colon, and the chicken gizzard with the use of 3H-GABA and autoradiography. Experiments were carried out on plexuses that had been freshly isolated from the gut wall or on isolated plexuses that had been maintained as explant cultures for 7 to 14 days. Scattered neurons selectively labelled with 3H-GABA were found in the myenteric plexuses from all the areas examined. The results suggest that GABAergic neurons are widely distributed in the enteric nervous system.  相似文献

The Champy-Maillet osmium tetroxide-zinc iodide technique and a new method using azur B-sodium thioglycolate were used to study the general nervous tissue structure in planarians. A subepidermal and a submuscular nerve plexus, partially reported by earlier authors, are described, and a gastrodermal plexus is reported for the first time in triclads. The possible functions for each one of these plexuses are discussed. By the Champy-Maillet method, the innervation within the parenchyma appears as an array of numerous single nerve fibers that course between the parenchyma cells making apparent synaptic contacts. The pharynx has outer and inner nerve nets similar in structure to the submuscular nerve plexus. Both nerve nets are connected to each other by radial nerves. The central nervous system has a sponge-like structure with many lacunae filled with cell bodies, dorso-ventral muscle fibers, parenchymal cell processes and excretory ducts. The existence of this sponge-like nervous tissue structure is discussed in relation to the still incomplete centralization of the nervous tissue in these organisms, to the lack of a true vascular system and to the acoelomate level of organization. A comparison with the nervous tissue structure of more advanced groups like polyclads and nemertines is suggested.  相似文献

The distribution of nitroxidergic (NO-ergic) cells in the direct and recurrent loops of the midgut and in the hindgut of the bivalve mollusk Modiolus kurilensis was studied using a NADPH-diaphorase (NADPH-d) histochemistry [13]. Intraepithelial NO-ergic cells were found in the intestinal groove, in the major typhlosole of the direct loop, in the recurrent loop of the midgut, as well as in the hindgut. The apical processes of these cells are directed to the intestinal lumen, whereas the basal processes connect to the basiepithelial NO-ergic plexus. The latter, in turn, have separate fibers that are in contactswith the subepithelial NO-ergic plexus. Both plexuses are well developed in the intestinal groove of the direct loop and in the recurrent loop of the midgut, as well as in the hindgut. In the major typhlosole and crystalline style sac of the direct loop, both basi- and subepithelial NO-ergic plexuses are less developed. In the minor typhlosole, the basiepithelial NO-ergic plexus is absent and only single fibers of the subepithelial plexus occur. In the connective tissue and muscular layers of the recurrent loop of the midgut, subepithelial NO-ergic nerve cells were found.  相似文献

The intermesenteric plexus is an independent formation, it is connected with other plexuses in the abdominal and pelvic cavities and participates in innervation of organs. In the species investigated (mole, rat, cat, dog, man) connections between the intermesenteric and other vegetative plexuses in the abdominal and pelvic cavities vary according to their amount and complexity, they are most abundant and complex in man. In the latter the plexus is also mostly rich in neuro-fibrillar and neuro-cellular elements. In the intermesenteric plexus of the man and the animals studied there is a rather big part of vegetative ganglia, which can be considered as peripheral centers of the internal abdominal organs innervation.  相似文献

The ultrastructure organization of the stomach enteric plexus was examined in the lizard Podarcis hispanica. The ganglions of the myenteric plexus present a low number of nerve cell bodies with a peculiar nucleus, which occasionally establish direct contacts with cells of the circular muscle layer. Glial cells are smaller than the neurones, and their nucleus is very electron-dense. They surround the axons that constitute the fibres of the myenteric plexus. Four main types of axon profile are described in a morphological consideration of the vesicle population. In the interstice of the circular muscle layer we describe two types of interstitial cells that, due to their ultrastructural characteristics, may be equivalent to the interstitial cells of Cajal which have been described in mammalians. These cells shows parallel distribution to the stomach nerve plexuses, establishing close contacts with them through their long cytoplasmic prolongations. By means of small gap-like unions, they contact both each other and the smooth muscle cells near them. We describe a submucous plexus, where neuronal bodies are scattered among bundles of nervous fibres, some of which are myelinated. A mucous plexus with isolated neurones is located in the lamina propria. Axonal varicosities containing vesicles contact with the cells of the mucous. Interconnected interstitial cells may also be found in this plexus.  相似文献

The electron-immunocytochemical protein A-gold technique was employed to study the subcellular localization of vasoactive intestinal polypeptide-like material in dog ileum. The vasoactive intestinal polypeptide-like immunoreactivity was found within a population of large granular vesicles similar in structure in nerve varicosities of the myenteric plexus, the deep muscular plexus, the submucous plexus, the longitudinal muscular layer and the mucosa; none was found in nerve cell bodies. In the myenteric plexus, submucous plexus, the mucosa and the longitudinal muscular layer, varicosities containing similar large granular vesicles consistently remained unstained suggesting that within these plexuses morphologically indistinguishable by our technique large granular vesicles are not necessarily biochemically identical. In the deep muscular plexus, nearly all varicosities with large granular vesicles contained immunoreactivity for vasoactive intestinal polypeptide, but these varicosities often contained a few unstained large granular vesicles. This suggests that vasoactive intestinal polypeptide may share the same varicosity or the same vesicle with other neuropeptides present in this plexus (e.g., substance P or enkephalins) and that this plexus is a site where vasoactive intestinal polypeptide exerts its control over motility.  相似文献

Summary The adrenergic nerve supply of the choroid plexus in all four ventricles was studied by the Falck-Hillarp histofluorescence technique in nine different species, and the noradrenaline concentration in whole plexus tissue was determined by a radioenzymatic method. The nerve density was usually in the order: third > lateral > fourth ventricular plexuses. Plexuses of the pig and cat possessed the largest number of nerves; the innervation was intermediary in the baboon, guinea-pig, rat, rabbit and hamster, whereas only few fluorescent nerves were found in the cow and mouse plexuses. Sympathetic denervation showed an ipsilateral supply from the superior cervical ganglia to the lateral plexuses and a mixed contribution to the midline plexuses. The total noradrenaline concentration varied between 0.10 and 0.73 ng per mg protein.  相似文献

By means of electron microscopical methods organization of various components of the vascular plexus in the rabbit cerebral lateral ventricles--ependymal and supraependymal cells, as well as capillaries, making the base of the hemato-encephalic and hemato-liquor barriers of the plexus have been studied. Injection of bacterial pyrogen (pyrogenal) to the animals is accompanied with an increasing permeability in the barriers of the vascular plexus for certain blood cells (lymphocytes, monocytes), their activation and transformation into plasma cells and macrophages. Under pyrogenal effect in the ventricle cavities activation of the supraependymal cells and intensification of their interaction with the underlying ependyma take place. In the ependymal layer local dilatation of intercellular spaces and intensification of exocytic processes are observed. The changes revealed demonstrate an active reaction of some elements of the vascular plexus to fever, dependent on injection of the bacterial pyrogens into the organism.  相似文献
