Abstract Pasteurella multocida serotype B:2,5, which causes haemorrhagic septicaemia in buffalo and cattle, was examined for the presence of transferrin-binding proteins. An 82-kDa iron-regulated outer membrane protein was found which specifically binds bovine transferrin. In contrast, P. multocida serotype B:3,4, associated with haemorrhagic septicaemia in feral ruminants, did not express transferrin-binding proteins. These rsults might indicate a role for transferrin binding in the pathogenesis of haemorrhagic septicaemia in cattle and buffalo.  相似文献

In conformity with the findings of previous investigators, it was shown by density gradient ultracentrifugation that the antibodies in sera collected from calves shortly after vaccination with Brucella abortus, strain 19, were entirely or mainly rapidly-sedimenting. These macroglobulin (19S or IgM) antibodies showed complement-fixing as well as agglutinative activity with Br. abortus antigen. In later bleedings from the same vaccinated calves, antibodies with an intermediate sedimentation rate, (IgG), were present, as well as IgM. Sera from 15 of 22 non-vaccinated, relatively recent field cases of brucellosis appeared to contain only the IgG class of antibodies. In one herd, however, two cows with IgM only and five with both IgM and IgA were found; all seven of these cattle had been serologically negative before their introduction into this known infected herd a few months earlier. The agglutinative activity of sera from four cases of brucellosis of long standing and from eight cows, 4 to 13 years of age, that had been vaccinated as calves, was confined to the IgG fraction.  相似文献

Pasteurella multocida was isolated from cattle affected with haemorrhagic septicaemia and characterized on the basis of morphological, cultural and biochemical tests. Bacterial outer membrane proteins (OMPs) were extracted with 1% Sarkosyl method. P. multocida anti-idiotype vaccine prepared from OMPs (21.3 mg per 100 ml), was evaluated and compared with bacterin supplemented with 10% OMPs and plain alum-adsorbed bacterin in rabbit models. It was observed that OMPs-anti-idiotype vaccine induced high levels of antibody titres (geomean titres -GMT) detected using indirect haemagglutination (IHA) test. The OMPs anti-idiotype antibody titres of 168.9 GMT were obtained to 42.2 GMT in OMPs supplemented bacterin on 21 days post vaccination, while the plain bacterin had the least titre of 27.9 GMT. The OMPs-anti-idiotype vaccine provoked better immunogenic response in terms of highest GMT titres and long lasting effect in rabbits and 100% protection against the challenge with homologous strain of P. multocida, while 88% protection was obtained in rabbits, given OMPs supplemented bacterin.  相似文献

Background

Despite vaccination with a commercial vaccine with a documented protective effect against Vibrio anguillarum O1 disease outbreaks caused by this bacterium have been registered among rainbow trout at Danish fish farms. The present study examined specific serum antibody levels as a valid marker for assessing vaccination status in a fish population. For this purpose a highly sensitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was developed and used to evaluate sera from farmed rainbow trout vaccinated against V. anguillarum O1.

Study Design

Immune sera from rainbow trout immunised with an experimental vaccine based on inactivated V. anguillarum O1 bacterin in Freund’s incomplete adjuvant were used for ELISA optimisation. Subsequently, sera from farmed rainbow trout vaccinated with a commercial vaccine against V. anguillarum were analysed with the ELISA. The measured serum antibody levels were compared with the vaccine status of the fish (vaccinated/unvaccinated) as evaluated through visual examination.

Results

Repeated immunisation with the experimental vaccine lead to increasing levels of specific serum antibodies in the vaccinated rainbow trout. The farmed rainbow trout responded with high antibody levels to a single injection with the commercial vaccine. However, the diversity in responses was more pronounced in the farmed fish. Primary visual examinations for vaccine status in rainbow trout from the commercial farm revealed a large pool of unvaccinated specimens (vaccination failure rate = 20%) among the otherwise vaccinated fish. Through serum analyses using the ELISA in a blinded set-up it was possible to separate samples collected from the farmed rainbow trout into vaccinated and unvaccinated fish.

Conclusions

Much attention has been devoted to development of new and more effective vaccines. Here we present a case from a Danish rainbow trout farm indicating that attention should also be directed to the vaccination procedure in order to secure high vaccination frequencies necessary for optimal protection with a reported effective vaccine.  相似文献

Serum from volunteer subjects vaccinated with a bivalent whole cell vaccine of Leptospira interrogans serovar hardjo/serovar pomona grown in protein-free medium, was tested by the microscopic agglutination test (MAT), enzyme-immunoassay (EIA) and immunoblotting. Specific IgM antibodies to either serovars hardjo or pomona were detected in some subjects as early as 6 days after vaccination with peak antibody levels occurring 13-68 days after vaccination. Whereas all subjects produced specific IgM to both serovars, not all produced specific IgG to both serovars. Immunoblotting with hardjo sonicate revealed that all subjects produced IgM antibodies reacting with the 15, 23 and 28 kDa components of hardjo lipopolysaccharide (LPS), and most produced IgM antibodies that reacted with the 34.5 kDa flagellar doublet. In contrast, not all sera immunoblotted against pomona sonicate reacted with the 29 and 35 kDa components of pomona LPS. However all subjects produced antibodies reacting with a diffuse 14.4-27 kDa band. These antibodies appeared early in the immune response. Serum from the one vaccinated subject tested protected hamsters from acute lethal infection with serovar pomona.  相似文献

The effect of oral vaccines against bacterial fish diseases has been a topic for debate for decades. Recently both M-like cells and dendritic cells have been discovered in the intestine of rainbow trout. It is therefore likely that antigens reaching the intestine can be taken up and thereby induce immunity in orally vaccinated fish. The objective of this project was to investigate whether oral and anal vaccination of rainbow trout induces protection against an experimental waterborne infection with the pathogenic enterobacteria Yersinia ruckeri O1 biotype 1 the causative agent of enteric redmouth disease (ERM). Rainbow trout were orally vaccinated with AquaVac ERM Oral (MERCK Animal Health) or an experimental vaccine bacterin of Y. ruckeri O1. Both vaccines were tested with and without a booster vaccination four months post the primary vaccination. Furthermore, two groups of positive controls were included, one group receiving the experimental oral vaccine in a 50 times higher dose, and the other group receiving a single dose administered anally in order to bypass the stomach. Each group was bath challenged with 6.3×108 CFU/ml Y. ruckeri, six months post the primary vaccination. The challenge induced significant mortality in all the infected groups except for the groups vaccinated anally with a single dose or orally with the high dose of bacterin. Both of these groups had 100% survival. These results show that a low dose of Y. ruckeri bacterin induces full protection when the bacterin is administered anally. Oral vaccination also induces full protection, however, at a dose 50 times higher than if the fish were to be vaccinated anally. This indicates that much of the orally fed antigen is digested in the stomach before it reaches the second segment of the intestine where it can be taken up as immunogenic antigens and presented to lymphocytes.  相似文献

Protection after intraperitoneal (i.p.) vaccination of yellowtail (Seriola quinqueradiata) against pasteurellosis was studied in a field trial. Yellowtail juveniles captured from the wild or artificially hatched were immunised with an oil-based vaccine against Photobacterium damsela subsp. piscicida, and the fish were observed for 15 weeks after vaccination. Outbreak of pasteurellosis was observed at all five sites (mortality in control group ranged from 7% to 77%), and significant (p<0.01) protection against pasteurellosis relative to non-vaccinated control groups was observed at all sites. The vaccinated fish showed an increased level of agglutinating antibodies against Ph. damsela subsp. piscicida with a peak around 3-4 weeks post vaccination, increased phagocytic activity and increased production of superoxide anions in isolated leucocytes compared to controls, both assessed at 36 and 66 days post vaccination. Transient reduction in fish weight was observed in vaccinated groups until 10 weeks after vaccination; however at 15 weeks, the weight of the vaccinated group was significantly higher than that of the control group. This coincided with the development of side-effect scores at the injection site that had started to wane by 10 weeks, and the downward trend continued up to the last collection time (41 weeks), although with some variation between sites. The study shows that the tested vaccine protects against pasteurellosis in yellowtail under field conditions and that it is safe for use in the target species.  相似文献

A key hallmark of the vertebrate adaptive immune system is the generation of antigen-specific antibodies from B cells. Fish are the most primitive gnathostomes (jawed vertebrates) possessing an adaptive immune system. Vaccination of rainbow trout against enteric redmouth disease (ERM) by immersion in Yersinia ruckeri bacterin confers a high degree of protection to the fish. The immune mechanisms responsible for protection may comprise both cellular and humoral elements but the role of specific immunoglobulins in this system has been questioned and not previously described. The present study demonstrates significant increase in plasma antibody titers following immersion vaccination and significantly reduced mortality during Y. ruckeri challenge.Rainbow trout were immersion-vaccinated, using either a commercial ERM vaccine (AquaVac™ ERM vet) or an experimental Y. ruckeri bacterin. Half of the trout vaccinated with AquaVac™ ERM vet received an oral booster (AquaVac™ ERM Oral vet). Sub-groups of the fish from each group were subsequently exposed to 1x109 CFU Y. ruckeri/ml either eight or twenty-six weeks post vaccination (wpv). All vaccinated groups showed 0% mortality when challenged, which was highly significant compared to the non-vaccinated controls (40 and 28% mortality eight and twenty-six weeks post vaccination (wpv), respectively) (P<0.0001). Plasma samples from all groups of vaccinated fish were taken 0, 4, 8, 12, 16 and 26 wpv. and Y. ruckeri specific IgM antibody levels were measured with ELISA. A significant increase in titers was recorded in vaccinated fish, which also showed a reduced bacteremia during challenge. In vitro plasma studies showed a significantly increased bactericidal effect of fresh plasma from vaccinated fish indicating that plasma proteins may play a role in protection of vaccinated rainbow trout.  相似文献

A new commercial anti-Japanese encephalitis virus IgM and IgG indirect immunofluorescence test (IIFT) was evaluated for the detection of the humoral immune response after Japanese encephalitis vaccination. The IgM IIFT was compared to two IgM capture ELISAs and the IgG IIFT was analysed in comparison to a plaque reduction neutralization test (PRNT50) and an IgG ELISA. Moreover, the course of the immune reaction after vaccination with an inactivated JEV vaccine was examined. For the present study 300 serum samples from different blood withdrawals from 100 persons vaccinated against Japanese encephalitis were used. For the IgM evaluation, altogether 78 PRNT50 positive samples taken 7 to 56 days after vaccination and 78 PRNT50 negative sera were analyzed with the Euroimmun anti-JEV IgM IIFT, the Panbio Japanese Encephalitis - Dengue IgM Combo ELISA and the InBios JE Detect IgM capture ELISA. For the IgG evaluation, 100 sera taken 56 days after vaccination and 100 corresponding sera taken before vaccination were tested in the PRNT50, the Euroimmun anti-JEV IgG IIFT, and the InBios JE Detect IgG ELISA. The Euroimmun IgM IIFT showed in comparison to the Panbio ELISA a specificity of 95% and a sensitivity of 86%. With respect to the InBios ELISA, the values were 100% and 83.9%, respectively. The analysis of the Euroimmun IgG IIFT performance and the PRNT50 results demonstrated a specificity of 100% and a sensitivity of 93.8%, whereas it was not possible to detect more than 6.6% of the PRNT50 positive sera as positive with the InBios JE Detect IgG ELISA. Thus, the IIFT is a valuable alternative to the established methods in detecting anti-JEV antibodies after vaccination in travellers and it might prove useful for the diagnosis of acutely infected persons.  相似文献

A live, streptomycin dependent, Pasteurella multocida (SDPM) serotype A:12 vaccine was evaluated for preventing pasteurellosis in two commercial rabbitries. Rabbits were inoculated intranasally at 5 weeks old with either 0.25 ml of vaccine containing 10(8) colony forming units/ml or 0.25 ml of diluent (control). A proportion of rabbits received a second intranasal inoculation 1 month later. Partial protection against P. multocida infection was observed 1 and 2 months after inoculation in rabbits given only one dose of vaccine. The incidence of clinical signs of pasteurellosis was similar in vaccinated and nonvaccinated market-age rabbits inoculated 4 to 6 weeks previously. In does maintained in the breeding colony, P. multocida infection and upper respiratory disease occurred more frequently in vaccinated than nonvaccinated rabbits. Humoral antibody responses (IgA, IgM, IgG) followed longitudinally were similar in vaccinated and nonvaccinated does. Hence, the SDPM vaccine was not efficacious in controlling P. multocida infection at these two rabbitries.  相似文献

Human onchocerciasis, caused by the filarial nematode Onchocerca volvulus, is controlled almost exclusively by the drug ivermectin, which prevents pathology by targeting the microfilariae. However, this reliance on a single control tool has led to interest in vaccination as a potentially complementary strategy. Here, we describe the results of a trial in West Africa to evaluate a multivalent, subunit vaccine for onchocerciasis in the naturally evolved host-parasite relationship of Onchocerca ochengi in cattle. Naïve calves, reared in fly-proof accommodation, were immunised with eight recombinant antigens of O. ochengi, administered separately with either Freund''s adjuvant or alum. The selected antigens were orthologues of O. volvulus recombinant proteins that had previously been shown to confer protection against filarial larvae in rodent models and, in some cases, were recognised by serum antibodies from putatively immune humans. The vaccine was highly immunogenic, eliciting a mixed IgG isotype response. Four weeks after the final immunisation, vaccinated and adjuvant-treated control calves were exposed to natural parasite transmission by the blackfly vectors in an area of Cameroon hyperendemic for O. ochengi. After 22 months, all the control animals had patent infections (i.e., microfilaridermia), compared with only 58% of vaccinated cattle (P = 0.015). This study indicates that vaccination to prevent patent infection may be an achievable goal in onchocerciasis, reducing both the pathology and transmissibility of the infection. The cattle model has also demonstrated its utility for preclinical vaccine discovery, although much research will be required to achieve the requisite target product profile of a clinical candidate.  相似文献

The nitric oxide (NO) response of vaccinated and non-vaccinated juvenile gilthead seabream was studied in vivo and the NO response of isolated kidney macrophages of fish was studied in vitro. Fish were vaccinated with formalin-killed Photobacterium damselae subsp. piscicida (Pdp) with or without Freund's incomplete adjuvant (FIA) and control fish received phosphate buffered saline (PBS). Thirty days later, fish were injected with a sublethal dose of Pdp and 3 fish/group were bled at time periods thereafter and serum nitrite and citrulline levels were determined as a measure of the NO response. All infected groups showed an increase in NO metabolites from 6h to 27 days, with peak levels at 24 h. However, the response in bacterin-vaccinated fish was significantly higher than in the non-vaccinated group and the bacterin plus FIA resulted in a further significant enhancement. Similarly enhanced NO responses were produced in vitro by isolated macrophages obtained from vaccinated compared with non-vaccinated fish 30 days after vaccination following infection, with the response in macrophages from fish vaccinated with the bacterin plus FIA being significantly higher than those from fish vaccinated with the bacterin alone. Thus, vaccination resulted in an enhanced NO response to infection with Pdp in vivo and in vitro. Furthermore, the level of protection of fish to experimental challenge with virulent Pdp correlated with the level of the NO responses in the different groups.  相似文献

The introduction of oil-adjuvanted vaccines in salmon aquaculture made large-scale production feasible by reducing the impact of infections. Vaccines given intraperitoneally (ip) contain oil adjuvant such as mineral oil. However, in rodents, a single ip injection of adjuvant hydrocarbon oil induces lupus-like systemic autoimmune syndrome. We have recently reported that autoimmune disease in farmed salmon, characterized by production of various autoantibodies, immune complex glomerulonephritis, liver thrombosis, and spinal deformity, are previously unrecognized side effects of vaccination. In the present study, we examined whether vaccination-induced autoantibody production in farmed Atlantic salmon is a mere result of polyclonal B-cell activation. Sera were collected from 205 vaccinated and unvaccinated Atlantic salmon (experimental, 7 farms) and wild salmon. Total IgM levels and autoantibodies to salmon blood cell (SBC) extract in sera were measured by ELISA and the relationship between hypergammaglobulinemia and autoantibody production was analyzed. Comparison of endpoint titers vs levels/units using a single dilution of sera in detection of autoantibodies to SBC showed near perfect correlation, justifying the use of the latter for screening. Both total IgM and anti-SBC antibodies are increased in vaccinated salmon compared with unvaccinated controls, however, they do not always correlate well when compared between groups or between individuals, suggesting the involvement of antigen-specific mechanisms in the production of anti-SBC autoantibodies. The primary considerations of successful vaccine for aquaculture are cost-effectiveness and safety. Vaccination-induced autoimmunity in farmed Atlantic salmon may have consequences on future vaccine development and salmon farming strategy. Evaluation for polyclonal hypergamamglobulinemia and autoimmunity should be included as an important trait when vaccine efficacy and safety are evaluated in future.  相似文献

BackgroundAlthough livestock vaccination is effective in preventing Rift Valley fever (RVF) epidemics, there are concerns about safety and effectiveness of the only commercially available RVF Smithburn vaccine. We conducted a randomized controlled field trial to evaluate the immunogenicity and safety of the new RVF Clone 13 vaccine, recently registered in South Africa.MethodsIn a blinded randomized controlled field trial, 404 animals (85 cattle, 168 sheep, and 151 goats) in three farms in Kenya were divided into three groups. Group A included males and non-pregnant females that were randomized and assigned to two groups; one vaccinated with RVF Clone 13 and the other given placebo. Groups B included animals in 1st half of pregnancy, and group C animals in 2nd half of pregnancy, which were also randomized and either vaccinated and given placebo. Animals were monitored for one year and virus antibodies titers assessed on days 14, 28, 56, 183 and 365.ResultsIn vaccinated goats (N = 72), 72% developed anti-RVF virus IgM antibodies and 97% neutralizing IgG antibodies. In vaccinated sheep (N = 77), 84% developed IgM and 91% neutralizing IgG antibodies. Vaccinated cattle (N = 42) did not develop IgM antibodies but 67% developed neutralizing IgG antibodies. At day 14 post-vaccination, the odds of being seropositive for IgG in the vaccine group was 3.6 (95% CI, 1.5 – 9.2) in cattle, 90.0 (95% CI, 25.1 – 579.2) in goats, and 40.0 (95% CI, 16.5 – 110.5) in sheep. Abortion was observed in one vaccinated goat but histopathologic analysis did not indicate RVF virus infection. There was no evidence of teratogenicity in vaccinated or placebo animals.ConclusionsThe results suggest RVF Clone 13 vaccine is safe to use and has high (>90%) immunogenicity in sheep and goats but moderate (> 65%) immunogenicity in cattle.  相似文献

B cells secreting IgG antibodies, but not IgM, are thought to be solely responsible for vaccine-induced protection against rabies virus (RABV) infections in postexposure settings. In this report, we reinvestigated the potential for IgM to mediate protection in a mouse model of RABV vaccination. Immunocompetent mice immunized with an experimental live replication-deficient RABV-based vaccine produced virus neutralizing antibodies (VNAs) within 3 days of vaccination. However, mice unable to produce soluble IgM (sIgM−/−) did not produce VNAs until 7 days postimmunization. Furthermore, sIgM−/− mice were not protected against RABV infection when challenged 3 days postimmunization, while all wild-type mice survived challenge. Consistent with the lack of protection against pathogenic RABV challenge, approximately 50- to 100-fold higher viral loads of challenge virus were detected in the muscle, spinal cord, and brain of immunized sIgM−/− mice compared to control mice. In addition, IgG antibody titers in vaccinated wild-type and sIgM−/− mice were similar at all time points postimmunization, suggesting that protection against RABV challenge is due to the direct effects of IgM and not the influence of IgM on the development of effective IgG antibody titers. In all, early vaccine-induced IgM can limit dissemination of pathogenic RABV to the central nervous system and mediate protection against pathogenic RABV challenge. Considering the importance for the rapid induction of VNAs to protect against RABV infections in postexposure prophylaxis settings, these findings may help guide the development of a single-dose human rabies vaccine.  相似文献

Vibriosis is one of the most prevalent fish diseases caused by bacteria belonging to the genus Vibrio. Vibriosis caused by Vibrio anguillarum produces a 38-kDa major outer membrane porin protein (OMP) for biofilm formation and bile resistant activity. The gene encoding the porin was used to construct DNA vaccine. The protective efficiency of such vaccine against V. anguillarum causing acute vibrio haemorrhagic septicaemia was evaluated in Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer Bloch), a common species of the Indian coast and a potential resource for the aquaculture industry. In vitro protein expression of porin gene was determined by fluorescent microscopy after transfection of seabass kidney cell line (SISK). Fish immunized with a single intramuscular injection of 20 microg of the OMP38 DNA vaccine showed significant serum antibody levels in 5th and 7th weeks after vaccination, compared to fish vaccinated with the control eukaryotic expression vector pcDNA3.1. Asian seabass vaccinated with the OMP38 DNA vaccine was challenged with pathogenic V. anguillarum by intramuscular injection. A relative percent survival (RPS) rate of 55.6% was recorded. Bacterial agglutination and serum complement activity was analysed by using DNA vaccinated seabass serum above 80% of analysed strain was killed at the highest agglutination titre. Histopathological signs of V. anguillarum challenged fish were observed in around 45% of pVAOMP38, 90% of PBS and 87% of pcDNA3.1-vaccinated control fish. The results indicate that L. calcarifer vaccinated with a single dose of DNA plasmid encoding the major outer membrane protein shows moderate protection against acute haemorrhagic septicaemia and mortality by V. anguillarum experimental infection.  相似文献

Safety and immunogenicity of Brucella abortus RB51 vaccine has been evaluated in an organised dairy farm in India. All the cattle (r = 29) vaccinated with strain RB51 'responded' to the vaccine as demonstrated by iELISA using acetone killed strain RB51 antigen. The percentage responders at day 35, 60 and 90 post vaccination were 100%, 95% and 20%, respectively. Strain RB51 was able to elicit a good IFN-gamma response from vaccinated animals. The post-vaccination time point analysis indicated that the cumulative IFN-gamma response of whole blood from vaccinates stimulated with heat killed RB51 antigen was elicited in 80% of calves at 60 days post vaccination. Absence of strain RB51 in the secretions and excretion and lack of local or systemic reaction indicated the safety of the vaccine.  相似文献

Natural IgM antibodies against the melanoma cell-surface ganglioside GM2, and IgM antibodies induced by vaccination with GM2 adherent to bacillus Calmette-Guerin, have been correlated with increased disease-free and overall survival in melanoma patients in previous phase I and II clinical trials. A vaccine containing GM2 covalently attached to keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH) plus the immunological adjuvant QS-21 now induces higher-titer, longer-lasting IgM antibodies against GM2 and has recently entered phase III clinical trials. For the first time this new vaccine also induces IgG antibodies against GM2 in the majority of immunized patients. With regard to immunity against bacteria, IgM antibodies have been described to be 1000-fold more effective than IgG antibodies at opsonification, complement-mediated cytotoxicity and protection from bacterial challenge. Though IgG antibodies have the theoretical advantage of being able to mediate antibody-directed cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC), they may inhibit complement mediated IgM effector mechanisms against melanoma cells. Our goal was to confirm the functional characteristics of the anti-GM2 IgM and IgG antibodies induced by vaccination and to determine the impact that IgG antibodies might have on IgM antibody reactivity with GM2-positive tumor cells. Post-immunization sera from seven immunized patients were separated by size-exclusion chromatography into IgM and IgG fractions and a variety of serological assays were performed with the individual fractions and their combinations. Assays identifying specific IgM or IgG reactivity demonstrated partial inhibition by the opposite fraction. However, when the endpoint was complement-mediated lysis or overall antibody binding, which may more faithfully predict in vivo complement-mediated opsonification and lysis, the combinations of IgM and IgG fractions consistently demonstrated higher reactivity than either fraction alone. In addition, ADCC was induced in all seven patients. The results were the same whether the sera were obtained after 2 months or 2 years of immunizations. These findings suggest that IgG antibodies induced by the GM2-KLH plus QS-21 vaccine will not inhibit and should further augment the clinical impact of induced IgM antibodies. Abstract A new lot of Francisella tularensis live vaccine strain (LVS) was tested for immunogenicity in 19 human volunteers. Scarification vaccination induced specific cell-mediated and humoral immune responses. We noted a significant rise in antibodies against irradiation-killed LVS, formalin-killed virulent strain SCHU4, and an ether extracted antigen preparation (EEx) beginning 14 days after vaccination. A main target of the humoral immune response was lipopolysaccharide. Eighty percent of vaccinated volunteers developed a positive IgG response to EEx by day 14 and 100% of vaccinees responded positively by day 21. Background IgA titers were lower than corresponding IgG or IgM titers. No early IgM rise was noted with any antigen. By day 14 after vaccination, in vitro lymphocyte responses to LVS, the rough variant of LVS, and EEx were significantly increased compared to controls. Seventy percent of volunteers had a positive in vitro lymphocyte response to EEx within 14 days of vaccination. We predict that EEx will be a usefull antigen for diagnosing tularemia and for evaluating the immunogenicity of vaccines against tularemia. We are testing this antigen using sera from human cases of tularemia and control sera.  相似文献
