OBJECTIVE: To assess the value of reaspiration cytology in benign nodular thyroid disease. DESIGN: We prospectively studied 400 patients (365 women, 35 men) aged 46 years (18-89) with nodular thyroid disease and initial benign fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC). Reaspiration of the same nodule was performed in a median follow-up time of 14 months (6-18). RESULTS: Repeat FNAC was benign in 346 patients (86.5%), insufficient for diagnosis in 42 (10.5%), suspicious in 16 (2.5%) and malignant in 2 (0.5%). All diagnostic changes to suspicious malignant cytology took place in patients with solitary nodules. Surgery confirmed thyroid cancer in the 2 patients with malignant cytology, in 5 of 10 patients with suspicious cytology and in none of 39 patients with benign cytology who underwent surgery for other reasons. Clinical changes (size increase or local symptoms) were not related to changes in cytologic diagnosis after a second aspiration, nor with the results of the biopsy. CONCLUSION: Repeat aspiration cytology of thyroid nodules may correct initial false negative results because of cytologic misdiagnosis, occurring in 1.75% of patients, whereas clinical changes did not contribute to diagnosis change. Repeat aspiration cytology is recommended in all patients with nodular goiter.  相似文献

目的:研究甲状腺结节良恶性的彩色多普勒超声特征及其诊断价值。方法:选取从2016年3月~2019年2月于我院接受手术治疗的甲状腺疾病患者300例作为研究对象,均予以彩超检查,比较甲状腺良恶性结节的超声特征(主要包括直径、钙化情况、边界、回声、血流状况)。以病理活检结果为金标准,分析彩超诊断甲状腺结节良恶性的敏感性、特异性以及准确度。对比甲状腺良恶性结节的血流分型情况以及各项血流动力学参数。结果:恶性结节超声特征直径≥2 cm、有钙化、边界模糊、无回声/低回声、血流丰富人数占比均高于良性结节(均P<0.05)。以手术病理组织活检结果作为金标准,彩色多普勒超声诊断甲状腺结节的敏感性、特异性以及准确度分别为97.73%、86.11%、96.33%。甲状腺良性结节血流分型为Ⅰ型、Ⅱ型人数占比高于恶性结节,而Ⅲ型、Ⅳ型人数占比低于恶性结节(均P<0.05)。甲状腺良性结节的收缩期峰值血流速度(PSV)、阻力指数(RI)均低于恶性结节,而舒张末期血流速度(EDV)高于恶性结节(均P<0.05)。结论:彩色多普勒超声对甲状腺结节良恶性的鉴别价值较高,且具有较高的敏感性、特异性以及准确度,可为甲状腺良恶性结节的早期诊断、临床治疗提供重要的参考依据。  相似文献

Fine needle aspiration biopsy in the diagnosis of thyroid nodules   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsies performed on thyroid nodules at Turku University Central Hospital from 1983 to 1988 were reviewed. Of the 1,054 total aspirated nodules, 194 were investigated histologically after thyroid surgery (191 cases) or at autopsy (3 cases). Two cases with an insufficient FNA sample, 4 with an incidental occult papillary carcinoma and 2 cases with carcinoma outside the nodule investigated by FNA biopsy were excluded from the series, leaving 186 histologically confirmed nodules in the final analysis. Three (3%) of the 107 cases with an FNA biopsy diagnosis of benign, 4 (8%) of the 52 with an FNA diagnosis of equivocal, 3 (20%) of the 15 with an FNA diagnosis of suspicious and all 12 (100%) with an FNA diagnosis of malignant were histologically malignant. If only an unequivocally malignant cytologic finding is considered positive, FNA biopsy had a diagnostic specificity of 100%, a sensitivity of 55% and an accuracy of 95% among the histologically confirmed cases. Follow-up revealed no cases of cancer among the 863 thyroids that were not explored surgically. It is concluded that FNA biopsy is a practical method with considerable diagnostic value in the evaluation of thyroid nodules.  相似文献

The use of fine needle aspiration (FNA) cytology in the evaluation of solitary hot thyroid nodules was examined in 24 patients. Satisfactory FNA specimens were obtained from 22 patients. None of the cytologic samples was considered malignant or suspicious for malignancy. The cytologic findings were indeterminate in one instance--a smear with follicular features. The smears from the other 21 patients were judged to be benign. If FNA had been used as the initial diagnostic step, the need for a thyroid scan would thus perhaps have been avoided in 21 of the 24 patients. These results support the idea that FNA is the most effective procedure in the evaluation of the solitary thyroid nodule, whether functional or not.  相似文献

Fine needle aspiration (FNA) is currently the best diagnostic tool for thyroid nodules. However, the cytologic category of indeterminate or suspicious lesion, which is found in 10-15% of cases, remains a challenge. Since neither clinical presentation nor intraoperative frozen section is often helpful in differentiating these lesions and since surgical procedures for benign and malignant lesions differ, there is a clear need to develop ancillary tests. In this review we identify 12 potential markers of thyroid malignancy that have been examined in thyroid cytologic samples. Although many of these markers hold promise as adjuncts to FNA cytology, multicenter studies have often shown limitations in the predictive value of these assays due to lack of specificity, sensitivity or both. The recent development, however, of tissue microarray techniques to validate promising new markers suggests that improvements in the approach to indeterminate thyroid FNA samples may soon be at hand. This review presents a summary of the issues facing the development of a clinically useful diagnostic test in the differential diagnosis of thyroid nodules.  相似文献

In total, 15,325 fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsies of the thyroid were examined in the Department of Pathology of the University of Innsbruck, Austria, between 1976 and 1985, with the cytologic results histologically verified in 3,112 cases. Since (1) it is frequently impossible to distinguish benign from malignant encapsulated follicular thyroid tumors by cytologic criteria and (2) there is a high level of follicular thyroid carcinoma in our endemic goiter area, we have adopted a diagnostic strategy that accepts a high percentage of false-positive cytologic results in order not to miss highly differentiated follicular carcinoma. To avoid unnecessarily extensive surgical treatment, 1,079 intraoperative frozen section examinations of the thyroid were performed in the same time period in (1) patients with preoperative suspicious or positive FNA cytologic findings, (2) cases with suspicious clinical and anamnestic data and (3) tumors with a suspicious macroscopic appearance without preoperative FNA or with negative or unsatisfactory cytologic findings. In 48 cases (4.5%), the frozen section diagnosis had to be revised after examination of paraffin-embedded tissue. An intraoperative false-positive diagnosis was obtained in 3 cases (0.3%) while a false-negative diagnosis was made in 45 cases (4.2%). The main effort in examining frozen sections should be concentrated on avoiding false-positive errors, which can lead to unnecessary thyroidectomies.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo assess the potential for stratification of indeterminate cytologic findings on fine-needle aspiration (FNA) of thyroid nodules in an effort to improve therapeutic strategies.MethodsWe attempted to determine the malignant risk associated with various indeterminate FNA cytologic patterns by correlation of specimens with the final histologic diagnosis. For this analysis, we identified 294 computerized medical records of surgically treated thyroid nodules during a 5-year period at our institution with the corresponding FNA cytology reports available.ResultsOf the 294 surgical cases, 162 with a positive or indeterminate cytologic report were selected, reviewed, and classified. Of 52 patients with positive cytologic findings on FNA, 51 (98%) had a final histologic report of a malignant thyroid nodule. Of 110 patients with indeterminate specimens, 30 (27%) had a final histologic diagnosis of thyroid carcinoma. The presence of nuclear atypia was predictive of thyroid carcinoma in 75% of patients, a Hürthle cell cytologic pattern was associated with a malignant thyroid nodule in 33%, and a hypercellular smear was suggestive of malignant involvement in 26% of cases. The lowest rate of malignant potential was associated with cytologic microfollicular and scant colloid alone subtype (6%).ConclusionThe results of this study show that indeterminate thyroid cytologic specimens can be subdivided into groups with different malignant risks. A microfollicular cytologic pattern in the absence of a hypercellular smear or nuclear atypia does not support a recommendation of surgical treatment. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the expression of galectin-3 in various thyroid follicular lesions, including diffuse hyperplasia, nodular hyperplasia, and benign and malignant follicular neoplasms, to clarify the diagnostic utility of galectin-3 in aspirates of follicular lesions. STUDY DESIGN: A total of 146 follicular lesions diagnosed cytologically, obtained from patients who had undergone thyroidectomy for either benign or malignant nodules, were evaluated using Papanicolaou-stained slides and cell blocks with galectin-3 immunostaining. We primarily categorized the aspirated specimens as benign, indeterminate or suspicious for a follicular neoplasm based on cellularity, architectural arrangement of the follicular cells and presence or absence of colloid. Galectin-3 immunostaining was evaluated according to the proportion and intensity of positively stained cells. Cytologic diagnoses were correlated with the results of galectin-3 and categorized into 3 groups (benign, indeterminate for malignancy, suspicious for malignancy) and compared with the corresponding histologic diagnoses. RESULTS: When the histologic diagnoses were compared with the cytologic diagnoses, the accuracy in the distinction between benign and malignant cases was 79.5% except for 8 cytologically and 3 histologically indeterminate cases. Except for 11 indeterminate cases, there were 18 (12.3%) discrepant cases. False positive cases included 8 of 62 (12.9%) nodular hyperplasias and 1 of 42 (2.4%) follicular adenomas. Of 9 false negative cases, 4 minimally invasive carcinomas and 2 widely invasive carcinomas were included. Three follicular tumors of uncertain malignant potential were cytologically categorized as malignant, and all cases showed positivity for galectin-3. CONCLUSION: Galectin-3 could be used as a useful supplementary marker for cytologic diagnosis, although it was not an absolute marker in determining whether a lesion was benign or malignant.  相似文献

The aim of our study was to assess the accuracy and limitations of ultrasound guided fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) of thyroid nodules. METHODS: The usg-FNAC results of 245 patients with thyroid nodules, who afterwards underwent thyroid surgery or who died, and autopsies were carried out, and compared retrospectively with cytologic results. Patients with malignant cytologic conclusion without histological confirmation after surgery or autopsy were excluded from the study (9 persons). The usg-FNAC results were divided as follows: group 1: diagnosis of malignancy (n = 30), group 2: suspicion of malignancy (n = 28), group 3: benign (n = 126), group 4: inconclusive (n = 29). RESULTS: Assuming the cytologic results of group 1 and group 2 were interpreted as being malignant and those of group 3 as being benign, the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of usg-FNAC were 90 %, 85 % and 86 % respectively. Comparing the cytologic conclusions between a group of patients with follicular lesions and a subgroup of other lesions a statistically significant difference (p < 0,01) between both subgroups using Fisher's test was found. Sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy in subgroup of follicular lesions were low (71 %, 63 %, 67 %), while in the subgroup of other lesions were high (94 %, 86 %, 88 %). FNAC can specify the nature of focal lesion with high sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy in the cases of non-follicular lesions. Histological evaluation is required to specification of the nature in cases in which cytology is indicative of follicular proliferation.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo assess how ultrasonography can contribute during the evaluation of a thyroid nodule and whether this technique can have a role in predicting malignant involvement.MethodsIn this retrospective study, data were analyzed on 220 consecutive patients (with 348 thyroid nodules) who underwent thyroidectomy and had previously undergone assessment by high-resolution thyroid ultrasonography. Nodule size, echogenicity, regularity of margins, halo sign, presence or absence of calcifications, and invasion of surrounding tissues were evaluated. The nodules were classified as low, medium, or high risk for malignant involvement on the basis of nodule characteristics found on ultrasonography. All nodules were submitted to cytologic examination by fine-needle aspiration (FNA) before thyroidectomy. Ultrasound, FNA, and pathologic postoperative results were compared.ResultsAmong the 348 thyroid nodules, 56 were ultrasonographically classified as low risk, 268 as medium risk, and 24 as high risk for malignant potential. Fifty of 56 (89.3%) low-risk nodules and 213 of 268 (79.5%) medium-risk nodules were diagnosed as benign at pathologic postoperative examination. In contrast, however, only 6 of 24 (25%) high-risk nodules were diagnosed as benign. Among the 18 high-risk nodules of 1-cm diameter or larger, FNA showed a 20% false-negative result.ConclusionHigh-risk classification of a thyroid nodule on ultrasonography had a positive predictive value for malignant involvement of 75%. OBJECTIVE: Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration biopsy (EUS-FNAB) is regarded as a safe and reliable procedure for diagnosing and staging of pancreatic neoplasms. This study retrospectively evaluated both the diagnostic utility and accuracy of pancreatic EUS-FNABs and potential cytologic pitfalls when using Diff-Quik stain for on-site evaluation. STUDY DESIGN: Pancreatic EUS-FNABs performed between 1995 and 1998 were identified from the files of the Department of Pathology. All patients were studied via a linear-array ultrasound endoscope with an FNAB device. Immediate evaluation of the specimen by a pathologist using air-dried slides and Diff-Quik stain was done on all cases. An average of five passes (range, three to nine) were performed. Five cytologic categories were identified: nondiagnostic, benign, atypical, suspicious and malignant. EUS disease staging, histologic correlation and clinical follow-up were reviewed. RESULTS: Sixty-nine consecutive pancreative FNABs were evaluated in the study period. The patients comprised 38 females and 31 males with a mean age of 65 years (range, 36-83). Histologic correlation was available on 40 patients, and follow-up was available on the remaining 29. The cytologic diagnoses included: 31 malignant, 8 suspicious, 6 atypical, 20 benign and 4 nondiagnostic. Forty-three cases were true positive, 9 were true negative, 2 were false positive, and 11 were false negative. The overall sensitivity was 80% and specificity was 82%. CONCLUSION: The study showed that cytologic evaluation of pancreatic EUS-FNABs has 80% sensitivity and 82% specificity. False negative diagnosis was usually due to sampling error. A nondiagnostic cytologic diagnosis should be rendered in the absence of adequate sampling of a lesion. On-site cytologic evaluation of EUS-FNABs aids in guaranteeing specimen adequacy, and the pathologist should be trained to evaluate Diff-Quik-stained samples.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To assess whether a light microscopic, semiquantitative approach could reliably distinguish between benign nonneoplastic, benign neoplastic and malignant oncocytic lesions of the breast and thyroid. STUDY DESIGN: Alcohol-fixed, Papanicolaou-stained fine needle aspiration smears of histologically proven goiter and chronic thyroiditis (18 cases), Hürthle cell adenomas (7 cases), Hürthle cell carcinomas (6 cases), fibrocystic disease (17 cases), papillomas and papillomatosis (7 cases) and apocrine carcinomas (6 cases) were rated by three independent observers using the following 10 cytologic criteria: cellularity, nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio, multinucleation, nuclear size, nuclear shape, anisonucleosis, multinucleolation, nucleolar-nuclear ratio, nucleolar size and nucleolar shape. Each of these 10 cytologic criteria was rated using a 1-3 scale. The scores for all 10 features were summed to give a total score for each case. The total scores were statistically analyzed to determine the validity and reproducibility of the summed criteria. RESULTS: The summed criteria of the total scores were reproducible between the three observers, with standard deviations ranging from 1.36 to 2.88 for thyroid and 1.72 to 2.00 for breast oncocytic lesions. The ability of the total scores to differentiate benign from malignant oncocytic lesions of the breast and thyroid was confirmed by a positive predictive value for malignancy of 67% for thyroid and 72% for breast and a negative predictive value for malignancy of 100% for nonneoplastic oncocytic lesions and > 90% for benign oncocytic neoplasms in both. The Kruskal-Wallis test revealed that the total scores were able to distinguish three diagnostic categories of nonneoplastic, benign neoplastic and malignant oncocytic breast and thyroid lesions, with P < .005. CONCLUSION: Without the expenditures of additional time, costs or materials, this semiquantitative approach compared favorably with contemporary morphometric studies involving the differential diagnosis of oncocytic cell pathology in fine needle aspiration cytology.  相似文献

目的:探讨超声弹性成像联合血清促甲状腺激素(TSH)、总三碘甲状腺原氨酸(TT3)、总甲状腺素(TT4)在甲状腺结节良恶性诊断的临床价值。方法:选择2018年1月至2019年12月我院收治的甲状腺结节患者80例,根据病理检查结果分为良性结节组(48例),恶性结节组(32例),所有患者术前进行血清TSH、TT3、TT4及超声弹性成像检查,比较各组血清TSH、TT3、TT4水平及超声弹性成像评分,分析甲状腺结节患者血清TSH、TT3、TT4水平与超声弹性成像评分的相关性,超声弹性成像联合血清TSH、TT3、TT4在甲状腺恶性结节诊断的临床价值。结果:恶性结节组血清TSH、TT3、TT4水平显著高于良性结节组,超声弹性成像评分高分比例显著高于良性结节组(P<0.05),经Pearson相关分析显示,甲状腺结节患者血清TSH、TT3、TT4水平与超声弹性成像评分呈正相关(P<0.05)。以病理诊断为金标准,超声弹性成像联合血清TSH、TT3、TT4诊断甲状腺恶性结节的灵敏度为96.88%,特异度为93.75%,准确度为95.00%,灵敏度、特异度和准确度优于单独血清TSH、TT3、TT4检测和单独超声弹性成像检测。结论:超声弹性成像联合血清TSH、TT3、TT4对甲状腺结节良恶性的鉴别诊断具有较好的临床价值。  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To differentiate thyroid nodules by means of fine needle aspiration with subsequent computer-aided diagnosis. STUDY DESIGN: Fine needle aspiration biopsies obtained from 137 patients for whom histopathologic diagnosis was available were investigated: 16 hyperplastic nodules (12%), 39 adenomas (28%), 25 follicular thyroid carcinomas (18%), 19 follicular variants of papillary thyroid carcinoma (14%) and 38 papillary thyroid carcinomas (28%). From each stained specimen 100 cell scenes were scanned and analyzed, constituting a total of 62,325 cell images. RESULTS: All the entities described could be well discriminated from each other by automated image analysis methods. Both the diagnosis of tumor type and the differentiation between benign and malignant could be achieved with a sensitivity of .98. CONCLUSION: With only 7-10 calculated cell features (texture line analysis) and classification with decision trees, a tool for high-quality cell image diagnosis is available. Subtypes of cells characterized by the calculated features could be found in all the specimens and could be assigned to the malignancies with high statistical significance. The method increases the relevance of image processing as an additional diagnostic tool for cytologic examination of thyroid nodules.  相似文献

Over a period of 35 years from 1963 to 1998, 93 patients under the age of 18 years, 74 girls and 19 boys, were seen for evaluation of a solitary nodule of the thyroid gland. All patients had preoperative scintiscans of the thyroid gland and had their solitary nodule excised. Seventy-seven of the patients had a cold nodule on scintiscanning. The most common cause of solitary thyroid nodules was follicuar adenoma (68.9%). Fifteen of the 77 cold nodules were malignant (19.9%). The frequency of carcinoma in males was 26.3%, while in females it was 13.5%. Our experience suggests that the incidence of thyroid carcinoma may be decreasing in pediatric patients not exposed to known risk factors. Available diagnostic methods for attempting differentiation of benign from malignant solitary nodules are reviewed and recommendations to the clinical management are presented.  相似文献

Background

We evaluated the usefulness of follow-up BRAFV600E mutation analysis using ultrasonography-guided fine-needle aspiration (US-FNA) in diagnosis of thyroid nodules showing negative BRAFV600E mutation on prior analysis.

Methodology/Principal Finding

A total of 49 patients (men: 6, women: 43, mean age: 50.4 years) with 49 thyroid nodules were included. Patients had undergone initial and follow-up US-FNA and subsequent BRAFV600E mutation analysis from US-FNA aspirates. All patients had negative results on initial BRAFV600E mutation analysis. Clinicopathologic findings, US assessment, and BRAFV600E mutation results were analyzed according to the final pathology. Of the 49 nodules, 12 (24.5%) were malignant and 37 (75.5%) were benign. Seven (58.3%) of the 12 malignant nodules were positive for BRAFV600E mutation on follow-up, all showing suspicious US features. Initial US-FNA cytology of the 7 nodules were non-diagnostic (n = 2), benign (n = 2), or atypia (n = 3), while follow-up were benign (n = 1), indeterminate (n = 1), suspicious for malignancy (n = 4), and malignancy (n = 1).

Conclusions/Significance

Follow-up BRAFV600E mutation analysis may be helpful in the diagnosis of selected thyroid nodules negative for BRAFV600E mutation on initial analysis, which are assessed as suspicious malignant on US, diagnosed as non-diagnostic, benign or atypia on follow-up US-FNA.  相似文献

ObjetiveTo evaluate the diagnostic efficiency of sonographic findings (nodule size, the presence of microcalcifications and echogenicity) compared with the results of fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) of thyroid nodules.MethodsThe results of cytology and the ultrasound characteristics of 341 thyroid nodules were analyzed.ResultsA total of 25.5% of the FNAB were inadequate, 65.1% were benign and 7.9% were suspicious or malignant. The percentage of inadequate samples was clearly larger in nodules smaller that 15 mm but that of malignant cytologies was also larger in this group of nodules (11.1 versus 2.8%: p=0.04). The percentage of inadequate samples among nodules smaller than 10 mm was 66.7% and no malignancies were detected. A notable finding was the absence of suspicious or malignant FNAB in hyperechogenic and anechogenic nodules. In contrast, the echogenic feature most frequently associated with malignancy was hypoechogenicity, although echogenicity, as a whole, was not significantly associated with malignancy (p=0.313). Most cases with microcalcifications (6 of 10) were malignant compared with four of the 239 nodules (1.7%) without calcifications (p<0.001). Multivariate logistic regression revealed that the only variable maintaining a significant association with malignancy was the presence of microcalcifications.ConclusionsThyroid cytology is an efficient method to evaluate thyroid nodules larger than 10 mm. The presence of nodule microcalcifications is significantly associated with malignancy, while hyperechogenicity and anechogenicity are associated with benign nodules.  相似文献

目的:建立以甲状腺单发结节超声诊断为变量的回归模型,分析比较超声造影与常规超声检查对甲状腺单发结节良恶性的鉴别诊断价值。方法:选择来我院就诊的甲状腺单发结节患者274例,让所有患者均接受常规超声检查和超声造影检查,并手术后进行病理诊断,建立相应回归模型,评价超声造影对甲状腺单发性良恶性结节的鉴别诊断价值,为临床检查及治疗提供参考。结果:超声造影检查的良恶性检出率均优于常规超声检查。超声造影检查良性结节检出率为65.69%,恶性检出率为34.31%,敏感度96.70%,特异度95.65%,准确率96.35%,均优于常规超声检查。Logistic回归分析显示,钙化、达峰时间、增强程度及最大灌注强度以上四项特征出现的越多,待测的甲状腺结节越有可能是恶性结节。结论:超声造影对良、恶性甲状腺单发结节的鉴别具有重要的临床诊断意义。  相似文献

目的:探讨超声造影与超声弹性成像鉴别诊断甲状腺良恶性结节的临床价值。方法:回顾性分析2011年1月-2013年6月我院经病理证实的128例甲状腺占位性病变患者(160个结节)的超声影像学资料,其中恶性结节68个,良性占位92个,评估实时超声造影与超声弹性成像诊断甲状腺良性与恶性结节的敏感性、特异性、准确率、阳性预测值及阴性预测值。结果:甲状腺良性结节超声造影检查以快进慢出、高增强为主;恶性结节以慢进快出、低增强为主。超声造影诊断甲状腺良、恶性结节的灵敏度、特异度与阳性预测值、阴性预测值及其诊断符合率分别为91.18%、92.39%、91.18%、93.41%、91.88%;超声弹性成像分别为89.71%、90.22%、87.14%、92.22%、90.00%,联合检查分别为94.12%、95.65%、94.12%、95.65%、95.00%,均高于常规超声的57.35%、72.83%、60.94%、69.79%、65.63%,比较差异有统计学意义(P0.05);联合检查灵敏度、符合率明显高于超声造影与超声弹性成像单一检查,比较差异有统计学意义(P0.05)。结论:超声造影与超声弹性成像在鉴别诊断甲状腺良恶性结节中均具有较高的应用价值,两种方法联合检查灵敏度及准确性更高。  相似文献

A cytologic evaluation was made of 57 samples of fluid aspirated from cystic breast masses during the past 12 years in our hospital. The cytologic diagnosis of the cyst aspirates from 17 cancer cases was positive in 10 cases, suspicious in 2 and negative in 5. No false-positive cytologic diagnosis was made in 40 cases of benign cystic disease. Blood-tinged aspirates were observed in 14 of the 17 cases of malignant cystic disease but in only 2 of 40 benign cases. Ductal cell clusters were detected in aspiration smears from 16 of the cases of malignant cystic disease and 15 of the cases of benign cystic disease. Apocrine cells were seen in the aspiration smears from 12 of the cases of benign cystic disease but in none of the aspirates from the 17 cancer cases.  相似文献
