A digestibility and balance trial was carried out to study the nutrient digestibility and utilisation of protein and energy in wet distillers' solids derived from barley or soyabean meal. Eight growing pigs (30–72 kg liveweight) were used in an 8 × 6 cyclic change-over experimental design, in which eight experimental diets were arranged 2 × 2 × 2 factorially. The corresponding factors were the protein source (wet distillers' solids (DS) or soyabean meal (SBM)), protein supply (130 or 162 g crude protein (CP) kg−1 dry matter (DM)) and liquid lysine product supplementation.DS and SBM contained 565 g and 485 g CP kg−1 DM, respectively, and the respective lysine contents in CP were 39 g and 64 g per 160 g N. The liquid lysine product contained 527 g CP kg−1 DM and lysine in CP 193 g per 160 g N.No differences were found in the total tract digestibility of the nutrients or energy among diets composed of DS or SBM without lysine supplementation. Those diets with liquid lysine product supplementation, however, had opposite effects on the digestibility of the diets composed of the different protein sources. Lysine supplementation improved the digestibility of ash (P < 0.001), ether extract (P < 0.05) and crude carbohydrates (CCH) (P < 0.05) in diets composed of DS and adversely impaired the digestibility of organic matter and CCH (P < 0.05) in diets composed of SBM. The calculated digestibility of CP and gross energy were respectively 91.2% and 88.3% in SBM and 90.2% and 85.0% in DS. The digestible and calculated net energy contents were respectively 18.16 MJ kg−1 DM and 10.73 MJ kg−1 DM for SBM and 19.31 MJ kg−1 DM and 10.40 MJ kg−1 DM for DS.The pigs on the diets composed of DS had higher total (P < 0.001) and urea (P < 0.01) nitrogen (N) excretion in urine and lower daily retention of N (P < 0.001) than the pigs on the diets composed of SBM. The liquid lysine product supplementation of the diets decreased the total and urea N excretion in urine (P < 0.001) and improved the daily N retention (P < 0.001). With lysine supplementation, the protein utilisation of the diets composed of DS was improved to the level of the diets composed of SBM. No differences were observed in the utilisation of energy among the diets composed of different protein sources. It is concluded that DS is highly digestible, but its protein is efficiently utilised only with lysine supplementation.  相似文献

Broiler litter was deep stacked and ensiled with water to achieved 40% moisture before being added, with or without 5% sugarcane molasses or with rumen contents, to a basal diet. The influence of stacking and ensiling of broiler litter on the numbers of Salmonella, Shigella, Proteus and total number of colony forming units (CFU) was investigated. Nutritive value of broiler litter processed by deep stacking and ensiling was evaluated in a digestibility trial. The experiment was conducted with 30 wethers allotted to five diets. A basal diet (20% corn grain, 23% wheat bran, 37% cotton seed cake, 18% wheat straw and 2% dicalcium phosphate) was given alone (1) or with broiler litter processed by deep stacking (2), ensiling (3), ensiling with 5% added molasses (4), or ensiling with rumen contents (1:1, wet basis) (5). For Diets 2–5, the ratio of basal diet to silage was 1:1, dry basis. For the digestion trial, diets were given at 20 g dry matter (DM) kg−1 body weight per day. Initial samples of broiler litter showed 2.5 × 108 CFU and Salmonella, Shigella and Proteus were present. The processes of deep stacking and ensiling were equally effective in achieving a complete elimination of all the pathogens. Apparent digestibilities of organic matter (OM) and crude protein (CP) (559.1 g kg−1 and 608.7 g kg−1 DM) were lower (P < 0.05) for diet 2 (deep stacked litter) than for the other waste-containing diets (OM: 578.7 g kg−1, 582.9 g kg−1, 594.1 g kg−1; CP: 688.6 g kg−1, 675.8 g kg−1, 709.0 g kg−1 DM, for Diets 3, 4 and 5, respectively). Among the waste-containing diets, cellulose digestibility (398.7 g kg−1 DM) was higher (P < 0.05) for Diet 5 (ensiled litter-rumen contents). The results indicate that deep stacking and ensiling are equally feasible and effective for eliminating the pathogens and processed broiler litter can be incorporated in the diet of ruminants at levels of up to 50% without any adverse effect on the health of the animals.  相似文献

A calorimetric experiment of 4 × 4 Latin square design was undertaken to study the effect of sugar-beet pulp (SBP), maize starch, sucrose and xylose on energy metabolism in sheep. The four diets comprised a diet (A) of dried grass, soya-bean meal and SBP (450, 50 and 500 g kg−1 on dry matter (DM) basis) and corresponding diets in which 400 g kg−1 of SBP was replaced by maize starch (B), sucrose (C) or xylose (D); all diets were offered at a level of 600 g DM day−1. After the Latin square was completed, energy value of the basal diet of dried grass and soya-bean meal (900 and 100 g kg−1 DM; 600 g day−1) was determined in the same four sheep.Treatment differences in organic matter, gross energy, nitrogen (N) and neutral detergent fibre (NDF) digestibility were non-significant. Differences in N retention were not significant.Digestible energy (DE) contents (MJ kg−1 DM) were 13.27, 13.22, 13.21 and 13.21 MJ kg−1 for diets A, B, C and D, respectively. Energy loss in methane was higher (P < 0.05) for Diet A than for other diets. Metabolizable energy (ME) contents for the diets A-D were 11.25, 11.22, 11.32 and 11.40 MJ kg−1 DM, respectively. Metabolizability (q) of the diets averaged 0.642 and was not significantly affected by the diet given. There was a trend for heat production to be higher in sheep given the sucrose-containing diet (C) than in those given other diets (6.34 versus 6.04 MJ day−1) and as a result, energy retention was lower (0.38 versus 0.64 MJ day−1), but the difference did not reach statistical difference. Efficiencies of utilization of ME for maintenance and fattening (kmf) averaged 0.67 and were in good agreement with those predicted from equations of the Agricultural Research Council (1980) excepting the lower kmf (0.63) for Diet C.The mean ME content of SBP calculated by difference was 13.05 MJ kg−1 DM and the corresponding values for mixtures of SBP + starch, SBP + sucrose and SBP + xylose (600 and 400 g kg−1 DM) were 12.98, 13.16 and 13.36 MJ kg−1 DM, respectively.  相似文献

Ryegrass, harvested before ear emergence, was ensiled in triplicate in laboratory silos with and without pre-ensiling treatments. These were: 4.7 M sulphuric acid (39 and 79 g kg?1 DM); formalin (28 and 58 g kg?1 DM); ‘Add-F’ (22.5 M formic acid; 36 and 71 g kg?1 DM); formalin (28 and 58 g kg?1 DM); ‘Farmline’, a commercial additive containing acids and formalin (31 g kg?1 DM); heat (30 and 60°C for 1 h); and Lactobacillus plantarum inoculum + glucose (4.6 g kg?1 DM). The ensilage period was 120 days. Samples of each silage were incubated, in artificial fibre bags, in the rumens of four Hereford-cross steers fitted with permanent rumen cannulae. Total nitrogen (TN) disappearance was measured after incubation periods of 1, 2, 4, 7, 12 and 24 h.Hydrochloric acid and the heating pre-treatments had no significant effect (P > 0.05) on the pH, water-soluble carbohydrates and fermentation acid values compared with those of the control. Fermentation acid production was suppressed to an increasing extent by formalin (28 g kg?1 DM), sulphuric acid (79 g kg?1 DM), formic acid (36 g kg?1 DM), formalin (58 g kg?1 DM) and formic acid (71 g kg?1 DM).The application of L. plantarum + glucose increased fermentation acids from 90.3 g kg?1 DM in the control to 227 g kg?1 DM, owing to a 10-fold increase in lactic acid content from 21.7 to 202 g kg?1 DM.All treatments, with the exception of 30°C heating, produced silages with significantly (P < 0.001) more total nitrogen as protein than the control. This ranged from 334 g kg?1 TN (60°C heating) to 748 g kg?1 TN (formalin; 58 g kg?1 DM).All treatments significantly (P < 0.05) reduced TN loss, compared with the control silage values, after a 7-h incubation period in the rumen. After 24 h, however, TN disappearance from the treated silages was not significantly different from that of the control with the exception of the two silages treated with formalin alone. With these silages, the proportion of TN disappearing was 55.0 and 40.0% for the low and high application rates, respectively, compared with a value of 74.0% for the control.  相似文献

Four silages were harvested at approximately one-week intervals from the same timothymeadow fescue sward. Advanced maturity of the herbage was evidenced by increased neutral detergent fibre [409, 497, 579 and 623 g in 1 kg dry matter (DM)] and decreased nitrogen (N; 29.9, using four ruminally and duodenally cannulated young cattle in a 4 × 4 Latin square experiment. On DM basis (g kg−1), the diet comprised grass silage (700), rolled barley (240) and rapeseed meal (60) and it was given at a rate of 70 g DM (kg live weight)−0.75 per day.Organic matter digestibility decreased in a curvilinear manner (PLINEAR (L) < 0.001, PCUBIC (C) < 0.01) the values being 0.821, 0.816, 0.758 and 0.747 for the diets based on the four silages in the order of harvest date. Rumen pH increased linearly (PL < 0.05) and ammonia N concentration decreased curvilinearly (PL < 0.01, PC < 0.05) as the grass matured. The molar proportion of acetate in the rumen VFA increased (PL < 0.001) and the proportion of butyrate decreased (PL < 0.001) with increased grass maturity. The silage harvest date did not affect the proportion of propionate. The changes in rumen fermentation pattern were associated with a decrease (PL < 0.05) in rumen protozoal number with increasing maturity of grass.N intake decreased significantly (PL < 0.001, PC < 0.01) with the maturity of grass from 167.5 to 118.0 g per day, but duodenal non-ammonia N decreased only from 111.3 to 97.3 g per day indicating greater N losses from the rumen with early-cut silages. The efficiency of microbial protein synthesis in the rumen was not affected by the maturity of grass ensiled. Apparent digestibility of N decreased (PL < 0.001, PC < 0.01) and the degradability of N in the rumen decreased (PL < 0.05) as the grass matured.  相似文献

Four silages were harvested at approximately 1-week intervals from the same timothy-meadow fescue sward and studied in a 4 × 4 Latin square experiment with four ruminally and duodenally cannulated young cattle. The diets comprised silage and concentrate (7:3 dry matter (DM) basis) and were fed at a rate of 70 g DM kg−0.75 liveweight in two equal meals per day.Neutral detergent fibre (NDF) digestibility was 0.757, 0.765, 0.692 and 0.686 on diets based on the four silages in order of harvest date. Increasing maturity of grass ensiled showed linear (PL < 0.001) and cubic (PC < 0.01) trends. NDF was separated into digestible (DNDF) and indigestible (INDF) fractions, which differed clearly in their rate of passage from the rumen (on average 0.0141 vs. 0.0258 h−1). The rate of digestion (kd) of DNDF was on average 0.076 h−1 when derived from the rumen evacuations but only 0.036 h−1 when calculated from the disappearance from nylon bags incubated in the rumen. Both methods detected decreased kd of NDF with increasing maturity of grass ensiled.Rate of passage from the rumen increased with increasing maturity of grass both when determined for NDF with rumen evacuation technique and from the faecal excretion of ytterbium calculated with a two-pool model. Mean retention time (MRT) in the non-escapable pool of particles increased (PL < 0.01) with increasing grass maturity, the opposite being true for the escapable pool (PL < 0.05), resulting in no change in the total ruminal MRT. Pool sizes of ruminal DM PL < 0.01) and NDF (PL < 0.001) increased with increasing maturity of grass. Ruminal NDF digestibility was calculated by different methods. When digestion kinetic parameters were derived from rumen evacuations and two-pool models used for passage kinetics, estimated digestibilities were very close to the observed ones.  相似文献

In total, 20 multiparous Holstein-Friesian dairy cows received one of four diets in each of four periods of 28-day duration in a Latin square design to test the hypothesis that the inclusion of lucerne in the ration of high-yielding dairy cows would improve animal performance and milk fatty acid (FA) composition. All dietary treatments contained 0.55 : 0.45 forage to concentrates (dry matter (DM) basis), and within the forage component the proportion of lucerne (Medicago sativa), grass (Lolium perenne) and maize silage (Zea mays) was varied (DM basis): control (C)=0.4 : 0.6 grass : maize silage; L20=0.2 : 0.2 : 0.6 lucerne : grass : maize silage; L40=0.4 : 0.6 lucerne : maize silage; and L60=0.6 : 0.4 lucerne : maize silage. Diets were formulated to contain a similar CP and metabolisable protein content, with the reduction of soya bean meal and feed grade urea with increasing content of lucerne. Intake averaged 24.3 kg DM/day and was lowest in cows when fed L60 (P<0.01), but there was no effect of treatment on milk yield, milk fat or protein content, or live weight change, which averaged 40.9 kg/day, 41.0, 30.9 g/kg and 0.16 kg/day, respectively. Milk fat content of 18:2 c9 c12 and 18:3 c9 c12 c15 was increased (P<0.05) with increasing proportion of lucerne in the ration. Milk fat content of total polyunsaturated fatty acids was increased by 0.26 g/100 g in L60 compared with C. Plasma urea and β-hydroxybutyrate concentrations averaged 3.54 and 0.52 mmol/l, respectively, and were highest (P<0.001) in cows when fed L60 and lowest in C, but plasma glucose and total protein was not affected (P>0.05) by dietary treatment. Digestibility of DM, organic matter, CP and fibre decreased (P<0.01) with increasing content of lucerne in the diet, although fibre digestibility was similar in L40 and L60. It is concluded that first cut grass silage can be replaced with first cut lucerne silage without any detrimental effect on performance and an improvement in the milk FA profile, although intake and digestibility was lowest and plasma urea concentrations highest in cows when fed the highest level of inclusion of lucerne.  相似文献

Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), oat (Avena sativa L.) and rye (Secale cereale L.) were overseeded into a dormant bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.) sod and harvested on six dates throughout the spring. Plant growth stage was documented for each forage on each harvest date, and harvested forages were subsequently evaluated for forage quality characteristics. Four ruminally cannulated steers were used to evaluate disappearance kinetics of nitrogen (N) by an in situ method. All forages had high concentrations of N (≥31.1 g kg−1 DM) throughout harvest dates in March. By 15 April, rye had reached a substantially more advanced growth stage than either wheat or oat. This trait, coupled with the concurrent taller growth habit, caused concentrations of N in rye to decline (P<0.05) rapidly between the 24 March and 4 May harvest dates. The effective ruminal disappearance of N remained high (≥790 g kg−1 N) for all forages harvested through mid-April, thereby indicating that these cereal-grain forages exhibit the same characteristics of high N disappearance and low potential ruminal escape that are commonly observed in other high-quality cool season grasses harvested at similar growth stages. The effective disappearance of N reached a minimum (P<0.05) for all forages immediately before grain fill. Generally, substantial increases (P<0.05) in effective ruminal disappearance of N were observed as these forages partitioned N into the filling grain head. Fractional rates of N disappearance for wheat and rye were extremely rapid (≥0.383 h−1) during grain fill. However, rye also exhibited an extremely rapid disappearance rate (0.548 h−1) immediately prior to the onset of grain fill that was not observed for wheat (0.085 h−1) at an identical growth stage. Parameters associated with disappearance kinetics can be related to growth stage at harvest by linear and polynomial regression techniques, although the best fit model was dependent on forage type.  相似文献

Temperature variation affects the growth, maturation and distribution of fish species due to increasing constraints on physiological functions therefore, the aim of the present study is to evaluate effect of temperature on thermal tolerance and standard metabolic rate (SMR) of gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata). For this purpose, tolerable temperature ranges of juvenile gilthead seabream acclimated at 15, 20, 25, and 30 °C for 30 days were estimated using dynamic and static thermal methodologies. The SMRs of the fish were also determined based on oxygen consumption rate (OCR). The dynamic and static thermal tolerance zones of gilthead seabream were calculated as 737 °C2 and 500 °C2, respectively, with a resistance zone area of 155.5 °C2. The SMR of the fish at the above acclimation temperatures (AT) was determined as 138, 257, 510, and 797 mg O2 h−1 kg−1, respectively and were significantly different (P < 0.01, n = 10). The temperature quotient (Q10) in relation to the SMR of the fish was calculated as 3.45, 3.91, and 2.44 for acclimation temperature ranges of 15–20, 20–25, and 25–30 °C, respectively. The fact that the SMR increased with rising temperatures and then decreased gradually after 25 °C indicates that the temperature preference of juvenile gilthead seabream lies between 25 and 30 °C. This study shows that gilthead seabream tolerates a relatively narrow temperature range, and consequently, a low capacity for acclimatisation to survive in aquatic systems characterised by temperature variations.  相似文献

The present study reports the temperature tolerance, estimated using dynamic and static methodologies, and preferred temperature range, based on oxygen consumption rate (OCR), of juvenile meagre (Argyrosomus regius) (Asso, 1801) (3.4±0.9 g) after 30 days of acclimation at 18, 22, 26 and 30 °C. Meagre has dynamic and static thermal tolerance zones of 551 °C2 and 460 °C2, respectively and is a low resistance fish species, with a resistance zone area of 87 °C2. The OCR of juvenile meagre at the above acclimation temperatures was 370, 410, 618 and 642 mg h−1 kg1, respectively, and is significantly different (P<0.0001, n=20). The fact that OCR increases by rising temperatures and gradually decreases after 26 °C indicates that the preferred temperature range of juvenile meagre is between 26 and 30 °C. Our study suggests that meagre is unable to respond to low and high temperature variation in aquaculture facilities or its natural habitats.  相似文献

The speckled peacock bass Cichla temensis is a popular sport and food fish that generates substantial angling tourism and utilitarian harvest within its range. Its popularity and value make this species important for management and a potential aquaculture candidate for both fisheries enhancement and food fish production. However, little is known of optimal physiochemical conditions in natural habitats, which also are important for the development of hatchery protocols for handling, spawning and grow-out. Speckled peacock bass have been documented to have high sensitivity to extreme temperatures, but the metabolic underpinnings have not been evaluated. In this study, the effects of temperature (25, 30 and 35°C) on the standard metabolic rate (SMR) and lower dissolved oxygen tolerance (LDOT) of juvenile speckled peacock bass (mean ± standard error total length 153 ± 2 mm and wet weight 39.09 ± 1.37 g) were evaluated using intermittent respirometers after an acclimation period of 2 weeks. Speckled peacock bass had the highest SMR at 35°C (345.56 ± 19.89 mgO2 kg−1 h−1), followed by 30°C (208.16 ± 12.45 mgO2 kg−1 h−1) and 25°C (144.09 ± 10.43 mgO2 kg−1 h−1). Correspondingly, the Q10, or rate of increase in aerobic metabolic rate (MO2) relative to 10°C, for 30–35°C was also greater (2.76) than from 25 to 30°C (2.08). Similarly, speckled peacock bass were the most sensitive to hypoxia at the warmest temperature, with an LDOT at pO2 of 90 mmHg (4.13 mg l−1) at 35°C compared to pO2 values of 45 mmHg (2.22 mg l−1) and 30 mmHg (1.61 mg l−1) at 30 and 25°C, respectively. These results indicate that speckled peacock bass are sensitive to temperatures near 35°C, therefore we recommend managing and rearing this species at 25–30°C.  相似文献

This study was conducted to address the effect of different constant temperatures (15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 °C) on the functional response of the parasitoid wasps Diglyphus isaea Walker and Hemiptarsenus zilahisebessi Erdös to different densities of Liriomyza sativae Blanchard (2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64 larvae) under laboratory conditions. The results revealed the Type II functional response for both parasitoids at different temperatures. The highest searching efficiency for D. isaea and H. zilahisebessi occurred at 25 °C (0.926 ± 0.211 h−1) and 30 °C (1.012 ± 0.241 h−1), respectively. In addition, the shortest handling time for D. isaea and H. zilahisebessi were observed at 25 °C (0.063 ± 0.008 h) and 30 °C (0.058 ± 0.008 h), respectively. These results demonstrated that H. zilahisebessi is more efficient at higher temperatures than D. isaea. Both parasitoids had higher parasitism performance when temperature increased (4.67 parasitized hosts/day at 15 °C vs 15.87 parasitized hosts/day at 25 °C for D. isaea and 3.89 parasitized hosts/day at 15 °C vs 17.24 parasitized hosts/day at 30 °C for H. zilahisebessi). In addition, a quadratic regression was found between handling time and temperature as well as between number of the parasitized larvae and temperature in D. isaea and H. zilahisebessi at different densities of L. sativae. This study provided a preliminary information on the parasitic behavior of these parasitoids and that D. isaea and H. zilahisebessi can be used properly beside other non-chemical approaches to manage L. sativae damage at a temperature range of 25–30 °C, respectively.  相似文献

Twenty-four 14-day-old weaner Avivastra (Russian Merino×Nali) male lambs were maintained for 180 days on ad libidum Cenchrus (Cenchrus ciliaris) hay and concentrate mixture (CM) contained groundnut meal (control) and mustard meal (MM group) as major protein source. The two CMs were isonitrogenous (21% CP) and isocaloric (2.78 Mcal ME kg−1 DM), while, CM fed to MM group contained 24.6 mg glucosinolates g−1 DM. Digestibility of nutrients was similar (P>0.05) in the two groups except for CP and hemicellulose, which was higher (P<0.05) in control. Urinary N loss was higher (P<0.01) in control than in MM group, whereas N retention (% of N intake and absorbed) was higher (P<0.01) in MM group compared to control. Dry matter (g kg−1 BW) and glucosinolate intakes were higher in MM fed group, whereas DCP and ME intakes were similar (P>0.05) in the two groups. Average daily gain (ADG) was, however, 22% higher (P<0.01) in control than in MM group. Hemoglobin and albumin contents were lower (P<0.01) in MM group than in control. Serum thiocyanate content was 26.7 μg g−1 in MM fed group, while it was not detected in control group. Thyroid weight was higher (P<0.01) while liver and kidney weights were lower (P<0.01) in MM group. Meat from dissected carcass of control group contained more protein and less fat, whereas the reverse was noticed in MM group. It is concluded that feeding mustard meal as protein supplement reduced growth rate and induced iodine deficiency. Carcass of lambs fed mustard meal had more fat and less protein.  相似文献

It has been demonstrated that precooling with ice slurry ingestion enhances endurance exercise capacity in the heat. However, no studies have yet evaluated the optimal timing of ice slurry ingestion for precooling. This study aimed to investigate the effects of varying the timing of ice slurry ingestion for precooling on endurance exercise capacity in a warm environment. Ten active male participants completed 3 experimental cycling trials to exhaustion at 55% peak power output (PPO) after 15 min of warm-up at 30% PPO at 30 °C and 80% relative humidity. Three experimental conditions were set: no ice slurry ingestion (CON), pre-warm-up ice slurry ingestion (−1 °C; 7.5 g kg−1) (PRE), and post-warm-up ice slurry ingestion (POST). Rectal and mean skin temperatures at the beginning of exercise in the POST condition (37.1±0.2 °C, 33.8±0.9 °C, respectively) were lower than those in the CON (37.5±0.3 °C; P<0.001, 34.8±0.8 °C; P<0.01, respectively) and PRE (37.4±0.2 °C; P<0.01, 34.6±0.7 °C; P<0.01, respectively) conditions. These reductions increased heat storage capacity and resulted in improved exercise capacity in the POST condition (60.2±8.7 min) compared to that in the CON (52.0±11.9 min; effect size [ES]=0.78) and PRE (56.9±10.4 min; ES=0.34) conditions. Ice slurry ingestion after warm-up effectively reduced both rectal and skin temperatures and increased cycling time to exhaustion in a warm environment. Timing ice slurry ingestion to occur after warm-up may be effective for precooling in a warm environment.  相似文献

Broiler litter and sorghum forage were ensiled in the proportions of 0:100, 25:75, 35:65 and 45:55 (wet basis), respectively. Samples of initial mixtures showed the presence of total (0.01–1.20×106) and fecal (0.001–3.190×104) colony forming units (CFU). Salmonellae, Shigella and Proteus were also present. Ensiling was effective in complete elimination of all the pathogens. Dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP) and ash contents were increased linearly (P<0.01) with the increase of broiler litter in the silages (35–57.5%; 6.4–14.8% and 3.2–9.0%; DM basis, respectively). Water soluble carbohydrate (WSC) for initial mixtures were 7.7%, 6.7%, 6.2% and 5.9%; DM basis, respectively. Ensiling decreased the pH and WSC for all the silages and the decrease was higher for sorghum ensiled alone than for sorghum ensiled with broiler litter. Lactic acid concentration in the silages increased linearly (P<0.01) with the increase of broiler litter. The nutritive value of the silages was evaluated in a digestion trial with 24 wethers. The apparent digestibilities of DM, OM and CP for the animals fed sorghum silage alone were, 49.6%, 51.6% and 49.7%, respectively. However, digestibilities of all the components were higher (P<0.01) for the animals fed silages containing broiler litter. Among the litter containing diets, the digestibilities of all the components showed a quadratic effect (P<0.01), increasing for silages containing 25% and 35% broiler litter and decreasing, when the level of litter increased from 35% to 45%. The results indicated that broiler litter could be used up to 35% in a ruminant's diet as a source of N without any adverse effect on health of the animals. Ensiling appeared to be a feasible and effective method for eliminating the pathogens present in broiler litter and improving its nutritive value.  相似文献

Babesia caballi cultures were cryopreserved with a solution of 10% (w/v) polyvinylpyrrolidone 40 as cryoprotectant. Samples were cooled at rates of 1, 10, 30 and 100°C min−1 using a programmable freezer. Additionally, a styrofoam box designed to cool samples at an approximate rate of 10°C min−1 when placed in a −80°C freezer was used. Samples were stored in liquid nitrogen, thawed rapidly and inoculated into cultures. Although, a high loss of infectivity was observed after cryopreservation, cultures could be initiated reliably from cryo-stabilates frozen at a rate of 10 and 30°C min−1 or frozen with the styrofoam box.  相似文献

The small, arboreal goanna, Varanus caudolineatus, has a field metabolic rate of approximately 0.46 mL CO2 g−1 hr−1 and a daily water intake requirement of approximately 31.6 mL kg−1 day−1 measured during the summer. V. caudolineatus held in a controlled-temperature environment of 35°C have lower metabolic (0.25 mL CO2 g−1 hr−1) and water flux (24.9 mL H2O kg−1d−1) rates than those in the field. Body water content was approximately 80% for V. caudolineatus.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to determine the effect of enzyme supplementation on the nitrogen-corrected apparent metabolisable energy (AMEn) and apparent nutrient digestibilities in ileum and excreta from male broiler chickens fed diets containing high amounts of wheat (>80%). Four different enzyme preparations were added to the wheat-based diets in varying levels and combinations. The difference between Experiments 1 and 2 consisted in the addition of different enzymes and enzyme levels. Excreta and ileal content were collected from broiler chickens at 3 and 6 weeks of age. At 3 weeks of age enzyme supplementation increased (P<0.0001) the AMEn from an average value of 13.86 MJ kg−1 dry matter (DM) to an average of 14.60 MJ kg−1 DM in the two experiments. The apparent digestibility of protein (APD) and fat (AFD) were improved significantly as a result of enzyme addition in both experiments. At 3 weeks of age, improvements (P<0.05) in the ileal AFD and APD were on average 13% and 6%, respectively. The effect of enzyme supplementation on AFD measured in excreta from broiler chickens showed the same pattern. The positive effect of enzyme addition on the overall nutrient digestibility and AMEn was reflected in weight gain and feed conversion efficiency (FCE). Significant improvements in AMEn, APD, and AFD were still present in most of the groups fed with enzyme-supplemented diets at 6 weeks of age. The effect of enzyme addition, however, was less pronounced, especially in Experiment 1 where the ileal APD of broiler chickens did not differ significantly from the control group. Apparent starch digestibility (ASD), measured in Experiment 2, was very high in all groups, including the control; however, enzyme supplementation increased ASD (P<0.001) in ileum and excreta at both 3 and 6 weeks of age. The digestibility of total non-starch polysaccharides (NSP) in excreta was improved significantly (P<0.01) as a result of enzyme supplementation (Experiment 2). In addition, pH of caeca content decreased (P<0.02) in broiler chickens fed with enzyme-supplemented diets when compared with the control group. Decreased pH could indicate microbial fermentation of unabsorbed NSP residues and nitrogenous compounds. Overall, the results demonstrated that the nutritive value of wheat-based diets to broiler chickens improve enzyme supplementation. The apparent digestibility of total NSP and of arabinose and xylose residues improved (P<0.02) in the enzyme-supplemented diets indicating that the enzymes were able to break down the cell wall NSP to a certain extent.  相似文献

A technique based on homogenisation of rapidly frozen tissue was used to investigate the regulation of intracellular pH (pHi) in freshwater and marine fish from diverse environmental temperatures. The following species were held at ambient temperatures of ca. 1°C (Notothenia coriiceps; Antarctica), 5°C (Pleuronectes platessa, Myoxocephalus scorpius; North Sea), and 26°C (Oreochromis niloticus; African lakes). The effects of seasonal acclimatisation to 4, 11 and 18°C were also examined in rainbow trout in the winter, autumn and summer, respectively. Extracellular (whole blood) pH (pHe) did not follow the constant relative alkalinity relationship, where pH+=pOH for any particular temperature, over a range of 1–26°C (overall δpHeT=0.009±0.002 U °C−1; P<0.001), apparently being regulated by ionic fluxes and ventilation. Intracellular pH (pHi) was also regulated independently of pN(=0.5 pK water) in all species of fish examined. The inverse relationship between pHi and environmental temperature gave an overall δpHiT of −0.010±0.001 U °C−1 (for both white and red muscle) and −0.004±0.003 U °C−1 (cardiac muscle). However, between 1 and 11°C δpHiT was much higher (P<0.001), −0.022±0.003 U °C−1 (white muscle) and −0.022±0.004 U °C−1 (red muscle). The possible adaptive roles for these different acid–base responses to environmental temperature variation among tissues and species, and the potential difficulties of estimating pHi, are discussed.  相似文献
