The spatio-temporal distribution of Sahlbergella singularis Haglung, a major pest of cacao trees (Theobroma cacao) (Malvaceae), was studied for 2 yr in traditional cacao forest gardens in the humid forest area of southern Cameroon. The first objective was to analyze the dispersion of this insect on cacao trees. The second objective was to develop sampling plans based on fixed levels of precision for estimating S. singularis populations. The following models were used to analyze the data: Taylor's power law, Iwao's patchiness regression, the Nachman model, and the negative binomial distribution. Our results document that Taylor's power law was a better fit for the data than the Iwao and Nachman models. Taylor's b and Iwao's β were both significantly >1, indicating that S. singularis aggregated on specific trees. This result was further supported by the calculated common k of 1.75444. Iwao's α was significantly <0, indicating that the basic distribution component of S. singularis was the individual insect. Comparison of negative binomial (NBD) and Nachman models indicated that the NBD model was appropriate for studying S. singularis distribution. Optimal sample sizes for fixed precision levels of 0.10, 0.15, and 0.25 were estimated with Taylor's regression coefficients. Required sample sizes increased dramatically with increasing levels of precision. This is the first study on S. singularis dispersion in cacao plantations. Sampling plans, presented here, should be a tool for research on population dynamics and pest management decisions of mirid bugs on cacao.  相似文献

综合多个聚集度指标对绿僵菌药后田间蝗虫和僵虫的空间分布型进行了研究。结果表明:施药后不同时间随蝗虫种群密度的减小,处理区残虫的分布型呈现聚集随机交错变动,僵虫的空间分布型为聚集分布。采用Taylor幂法则和改进的Iwao模型分析表明,整个调查时段处理区残虫、僵虫的空间分布均为聚集分布。推测认为,药后蝗虫点片状死亡,部分地片相对密度较高,残虫分布型趋向聚集; 自然消除作用使僵虫密度很低,低密度下取样产生大量空样本,僵虫的分布型产生聚集假象。  相似文献

Abstract  Studies of citrus leafminer in a coastal orchard in NSW, Australia indicated that an increase in abundance to about one mine per flush was followed during the midseason flush by a rapid increase in population that was related to an increase in the percentage of leaves infested within flushes and the number of mines per leaf. The fits of frequency distributions and Iwao's patchiness regression indicated that populations were highly contagious initially, and as the exponent k of the negative binomial distribution increased with increasing population density, the distribution approached random. Concurrently, the coefficient of variation of mines per flush (which was strongly related to the proportion of un-infested flushes) decreased to about unity as the proportion of un-infested flushes reached zero and fell further as the number of mines per flush increased. Both numerative and binomial sequential sampling plans were developed using a decision threshold based on 1.2 mines per flush. The binomial sampling plan was based on a closely fitting model of the functional relationship between mean density and proportion of infested flushes. Functional relationships using the parameters determined from Iwao's patchiness regression and Taylor's power law were equally satisfactory, and one based on the negative binomial model also fitted well, but the Poisson model did not. The three best fitting models indicated that a decision threshold of 1.2 mines per flush was equivalent to 50% of flushes infested. From a practical point of view, the transition from 25% infestation of flushes through 50% is so rapid that it may be prudent to take action when the 25% level is reached; otherwise, the 50% may be passed before the crop is checked again. For valuable nursery stock should infestation be detected in spring, it may be advisable to apply prophylactic treatment as the midseason flush starts.  相似文献

Sampling statistics were determined for larvae, pupae and adults of the chrysomelid Rhyparida nitida associated with sugarcane in Australia and for symptoms of their damage. Iwao's patchiness regression was inappropriate for modelling the mean–variance relationships of the insect counts. Taylor's power law was used to model these data and relationships were developed for counts of small, medium and large larvae, all larvae combined, pupae and adults. The mean–variance relationships of counts of live shoots and shoots killed by larvae of R. nitida were modelled using Iwao's patchiness regression; Taylor's power law was not appropriate to either data set. Relationships to determine sample sizes for fixed levels of precision and fixed-precision-level stop lines for sequential sampling of the different stages and live and dead shoots were also developed. Neither the ln(x + 1) transformation nor the Healy and Taylor transformation consistently standardised the mean–variance relationships of insect counts and the appropriate transformation should be selected on a case-by-case basis. Counts of both live and dead shoots were adequately transformed by the Iwao and Kuno transformation.  相似文献

西花蓟马Frankliniella occidentalis(Pergande)已在北京部分蔬菜园区成功定居,对蔬菜生产造成危害。为了解该虫在蔬菜田的种群空间分布型,指导田间取样,本文应用几种聚集度指标的计算公式以及Taylor、Iwao的回归方程式,分析和测定了西花蓟马的种群空间分布格局。结果表明:在黄瓜和架豆上西花蓟马的空间分布型一致,均为聚集分布型;该虫的空间分布型不受种群密度的影响,并且也不随取样时间的变化而变化。种群数量动态研究显示西花蓟马成虫和若虫在黄瓜植株的中部叶片分布较多(从顶部向下数第4叶至第17叶片上成、若虫的分布数量多于其他叶片上的数量),未展开的叶片、嫩叶和下部老叶危害较轻。用Iwao回归法中α、β参数计算出在允许误差范围内的理论抽样数。  相似文献

The abundance and spatial dispersion of Diaphorina citri Kuwayama (Hemiptera: Psyllidae) were studied in 34 grapefruit (Citrus paradisi Macfad.) and six sweet orange [Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck] orchards from March to August 2006 when the pest is more abundant in southern Texas. Although flush shoot infestation levels did not vary with host plant species, densities of D. citri eggs, nymphs, and adults were significantly higher on sweet orange than on grapefruit. D. citri immatures also were found in significantly higher numbers in the southeastern quadrant of trees than other parts of the canopy. The spatial distribution of D. citri nymphs and adults was analyzed using Iowa's patchiness regression and Taylor's power law. Taylor's power law fitted the data better than Iowa's model. Based on both regression models, the field dispersion patterns of D. citri nymphs and adults were aggregated among flush shoots in individual trees as indicated by the regression slopes that were significantly >1. For the average density of each life stage obtained during our surveys, the minimum number of flush shoots per tree needed to estimate D. citri densities varied from eight for eggs to four flush shoots for adults. Projections indicated that a sampling plan consisting of 10 trees and eight flush shoots per tree would provide density estimates of the three developmental stages of D. citri acceptable enough for population studies and management decisions. A presence-absence sampling plan with a fixed precision level was developed and can be used to provide a quick estimation of D. citri populations in citrus orchards.  相似文献

Abstract. Polyphagous insect herbivores could be expected to perform relatively well in new areas because of their ability to exploit alternative resources. We investigated relative abundance patterns of the polyphagous thrips species Frankliniella schultzei , which is characteristically found on plants from many different families, to establish the role of different host plant species in a single locality where the species is not indigenous (Brisbane, south-eastern Queensland, Australia). F. schultzei females and larvae were always present in flowers (where oviposition takes place) and never on leaves of the eight plant species that we surveyed regularly over one year. They were present in flowers of Malvaviscus arboreus in much higher densities than for any other host. F. schultzei females were more fecund and larvae developed faster on floral tissue diets of M . arboreus than on those of other hosts. M. arboreus is therefore regarded as the 'primary' host plant of F. schultzei in the locality that we investigated. The other species are regarded as 'minor' hosts. Available evidence indicates a common geographical origin of F. schultzei and M. arboreus . F. schultzei may therefore be primarily adapted to M. arboreus . The flowers of the minor species on which F. schultzei is also found may coincidentally share some features of the primary host. Adult thrips may therefore accumulate on minor hosts and breed there, but to a lesser extent than on the primary host. The general implications for investigating polyphagous host relationships and interpreting the ecology of these species as generalist invaders are spelt out.  相似文献

A 2-yr field study was conducted to examine the effectiveness of two sampling methods (visual and plant washing techniques) for western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande), and five sampling methods (visual, beat bucket, drop cloth, sweep net, and vacuum) for cotton fleahopper, Pseudatomoscelis seriatus (Reuter), in Texas cotton, Gossypium hirsutum (L.), and to develop sequential sampling plans for each pest. The plant washing technique gave similar results to the visual method in detecting adult thrips, but the washing technique detected significantly higher number of thrips larvae compared with the visual sampling. Visual sampling detected the highest number of fleahoppers followed by beat bucket, drop cloth, vacuum, and sweep net sampling, with no significant difference in catch efficiency between vacuum and sweep net methods. However, based on fixed precision cost reliability, the sweep net sampling was the most cost-effective method followed by vacuum, beat bucket, drop cloth, and visual sampling. Taylor's Power Law analysis revealed that the field dispersion patterns of both thrips and fleahoppers were aggregated throughout the crop growing season. For thrips management decision based on visual sampling (0.25 precision), 15 plants were estimated to be the minimum sample size when the estimated population density was one thrips per plant, whereas the minimum sample size was nine plants when thrips density approached 10 thrips per plant. The minimum visual sample size for cotton fleahoppers was 16 plants when the density was one fleahopper per plant, but the sample size decreased rapidly with an increase in fleahopper density, requiring only four plants to be sampled when the density was 10 fleahoppers per plant. Sequential sampling plans were developed and validated with independent data for both thrips and cotton fleahoppers.  相似文献

Within-plant distribution of adults, pupae, nymphs, and eggs of Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Homoptera: Aleyrodidae) on leaves of greenhouse-grown winter cucumber, Cucumis sativum L., plants were studied in field plots for integrated pest management decision making. Distribution of specific life stages depended on the leaf positions. The leaves with most abundance and low or lowest variation of whiteflies were leaves 8-12 for adults, 8-11 for pupae, 6-12 for nymphs, and 6-9 for eggs. In light of the criterion in selecting within-plant sample sites with pest abundance and low variation, these leaves were considered as the most convenient for sampling specific life stages of B. tabaci. Single a and b values for each life stage of the whitefly were calculated by Taylor's power law and were used to estimate minimum sample sizes at a precision of 0.25 (SE/mean). The minimum sample size decreased with increasing density of adults on leaves 8-12, of nymphs on leaves 7 and 8, and of eggs on leaf 6, but slightly increased with increasing density of pupae on leaves 8-11, of nymphs on leaves 6 and 9-12, and of eggs on leaves 7-9.  相似文献

The spatial distribution and dispersion of Anaphothrips obscurus (Müller) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) was examined with the goal of establishing a sequential sampling plan for this pest in timothy, Phleum pratense L. (Poaceae). Approximately 16 different California timothy fields were sampled twice yearly from 2006 to 2008 using direct observation and the beat cup method. For direct observation, the number of thrips on each leaf of the plant was counted. For the beat cup method, tillers were tapped into a cup and dislodged thrips were counted. Samples were separated by ≈3 m in 2006 and 2007 and exactly 3 m in 2008. Spatial autocorrelation of intrafield population distribution was tested for significance in 2008 using Moran's I, but autocorrelation was not detected. The population dispersion was assessed by Taylor's power law and was determined to be aggregated and density-dependent. Intraplant population dispersion and distribution for each year were also evaluated for adults, larvae, and total thrips. All lifestages were highly spatially dependent and more thrips were found near the top of the plant than the bottom. Direct observation proved to be a more accurate and precise method than the beat cup method, especially when thrips abundances were greater than one. However, the number of samples required to provide an accurate level of precision was unrealistic for both methods. A sequential sampling plan was evaluated, but was not practical for the beat cup method because few thrips were found using this method. Because there was no spatial autocorrelation at sampling distances of 3 m, samples can be taken at intervals at 3 m to obtain spatially independent population abundance estimates.  相似文献

Oviposition behaviour of western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) on greenhouse cucumber, Cucumis satifus (L.) was investigated. Most eggs were laid in the leaves, along veins and under leaf hairs, with only a few on plant stems and flowers. Oviposition rate was higher during the day than during the night. During the day, more adult thrips were found in the flowers than during the night. The number of adult thrips per flower increased rapidly after sunrise with the highest densities occurring around noon and thereafter the number of thrips in flowers decreased during the afternoon. No differences were found in the number of larvae (first and second instars) in flowers during the same period. The number of adult thrips on male and female cucumber flowers was not different, indicating that pollen is not the only attraction in flowers for thrips.  相似文献

The purpose of this research was to quantify the spatial pattern and develop a sampling program for larvae of Lobesia botrana Denis and Schiffermüller (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), an important vineyard pest in northern Greece. Taylor's power law and Iwao's patchiness regression were used to model the relationship between the mean and the variance of larval counts. Analysis of covariance was carried out, separately for infestation and injury, with combined second and third generation data, for vine and half-vine sample units. Common regression coefficients were estimated to permit use of the sampling plan over a wide range of conditions. Optimum sample sizes for infestation and injury, at three levels of precision, were developed. An investigation of a multistage sampling plan with a nested analysis of variance showed that if the goal of sampling is focusing on larval infestation, three grape clusters should be sampled in a half-vine; if the goal of sampling is focusing on injury, then two grape clusters per half-vine are recommended.  相似文献

对新疆吐鲁番地区葡萄斑叶蝉在葡萄园葡萄上的发生规律及种群空间分布型进行了研究。结果表明,该蝉在吐鲁番地区1年发生4代,1代高峰在5月中旬,其余各代世代重叠。其空间分布和温度变化关系密切,在春季平均气温20~30℃之间,种群趋于分布在藤架的中、高部位,而随着夏季温度的升高,种群向中、低位较荫蔽的部位转移,并通过在遮蔽物下躲藏或在阴凉湿润的土壤表面停留降温等措施度过极端温度。采用Taylor幂法则、Iwao的m-m回归分析法分析表明,吐鲁番地区葡萄斑叶蝉发生活动期为聚集分布,并且随种群密度的变化,呈现扩散-聚集-扩散-聚集-扩散-聚集的变化规律。  相似文献

The between-stalk dispersion characteristics of adults of the pink sugarcane mealybug Saccharicoccus sacchari (Cockerell) were determined in southern Queensland. Iwao's patchiness regression was inappropriate to describe the relationship between mean and variance. Taylor's power law indicated that adults were aggregated, especially at the beginning and end of the ratoon growth period. Binomial data were modelled by the Nachman model; the model of Grout and two models of Wilson & Room were inappropriate to describe the relationship between proportion of stalks infested and mean numbers of adults per stalk. Relationships to determine sample sizes for fixed levels of precision and binomial fixed-precision-level stop lines are developed for different sampling times using Taylor's power law and Nachman's equation.  相似文献

【背景】外来入侵害虫西花蓟马于2003年首次在北京郊区被发现,并逐渐扩散蔓延,目前已在我国局部地区暴发成灾。【方法】于2008~2009年通过定点调查的方法对山东省115个地区258个样点的主要花卉上的蓟马种类进行了分析。【结果】山东省主要花卉上发生的蓟马有11种,包括花蓟马、黄胸蓟马、黄蓟马、西花蓟马、棕榈蓟马、烟蓟马、禾花蓟马、横纹蓟马、腹小头蓟马、黑白纹蓟马、油加律带蓟马等,其优势种为花蓟马。外来入侵害虫西花蓟马在山东省18个地区的花卉上被发现。其中,荣成市区发生最重,占蓟马采集总量的51.86%;德州市区和青岛市区发生次之,分别占蓟马采集总量的34.21%和33.88%;其他地区西花蓟马发生量占采集总量的1.39%~18.75%。【结论与意义】西花蓟马已在山东省定殖并广泛分布,相关部门应做好西花蓟马的预防与控制工作。  相似文献

西花蓟马是近年来在我国局部地区暴发成灾的重要外来入侵害虫,有关西花蓟马入侵对本地蓟马种群动态、空间分布及优势种影响的报道较少。对云南省昆明市近郊蔬菜花期的蓟马种群动态和空间分布研究表明,蔬菜上的蓟马种类主要是西花蓟马Frankliniella occidentalis(Pergande)、花蓟马F.intonsa(Trybom)、棕榈蓟马T.palmi(Karny)和端大蓟马Megalurothrips distalis(Karny);不同蔬菜上的蓟马优势种存在一定差异,其中辣椒和茼蒿上的蓟马优势种为西花蓟马;韭菜、茄子和四季豆上的蓟马优势种分别为花蓟马、棕榈蓟马和端大蓟马。各蔬菜上的蓟马种群数量以花期为多,盛花期达最大值,其中茄子花上的蓟马成虫平均虫口密度最高,为14.93头/朵。利用聚集度指标进行空间分布检测表明,不同蔬菜上蓟马成虫的空间分布型均为聚集分布,且聚集程度随密度的增加而增大。本研究可为深入探讨西花蓟马对本地蓟马的竞争取代机制积累资料,同时为西花蓟马的综合治理奠定理论基础。  相似文献

The spatial distribution of adult and immature Thrips palmi Karny on fall potato, Solanum tuberosum L., on Cheju Island, Korea, was studied over a 2-yr period by visually inspecting potato leaves. The majority of thrips collected from the leaves were observed in the top one-third of the plant. The within-field spatial patterns of adults and immature thrips were aggregated. The slopes and intercepts of Taylor's power law did not differ among adults and immature thrips. A fixed-precision-level sampling plan was developed using the parameters from Taylor's power law and was tested with resampling simulations using eight independent data sets. Over a wide range of densities, the simulation demonstrated that actual sampling precision (d = SEM/mean) values at d = 0.25 averaged < 0.24 in all cases. A binomial sampling plan for estimating mean density was developed using an empirical model evaluated at tally thresholds (the minimum number of insects present before a leaf is considered infested) of one, three, five, and eight thrips per leaf. Increasing sampling size had little effect on the precision of the estimated mean regardless of tally threshold (T). However, increasing T had a dramatic effect on precision. The best tally threshold for estimating thrips density based on the applicable density ranges and the precision of the model was T = 5. A binomial sampling plan with a tally threshold of five and a fixed sample size of 30 leaves should be an effective replacement for enumerative counts when thrips average < 10 per leaf.  相似文献
