The feeding activity of Aphis craccivora (Koch) was monitored on cowpea plants of aphid-susceptible (Vita 7) and aphid-resistant (TVu 801) cultivars, using an AC electronic feeding monitoring system. Waveforms corresponding to salivation, phloem ingestion and non-phloem ingestion were observed. Aphids probing on the resistant cultivar showed a significantly reduced ingestion of phloem sap compared with those aphids which fed on the susceptible cultivar. The insect also made more brief and repeated probes on TVu 801. In addition, the duration of non-probing activities and non-phloem ingestion was shorter on the susceptible than on the resistant cultivar. 相似文献

The behaviour, development and reproductive capacity of Aphis craccivora, vector of a number of groundnut viruses, are compared on a range of susceptible and resistant genotypes. Field trials demonstrated no significant difference between genotypes in the rate of arrival of alates, but population development was slower, and subsequent population decline faster, on the genotype EC 36892 (ICG 5240). Behavioural studies in the screenhouse, likewise showed no inhibition to alighting onto EC 36892 though choice tests demonstrated a significant redistribution of the population in favour of the susceptible genotype TMV 2 (ICG 221) over the following 10 h. In clip cage experiments, development was faster and nymphal numbers were higher on the genotype TMV 2 compared to EC 36892. 相似文献

Biological control, as a major component of pest management strategies, uses natural biological agents to reduce pest populations. Studying the interaction among Aphis craccivora and its parasitoids including, Lysiphlebus fabarum, Binodoxys acalephae, and Aphidius matricariae in 2016 and 2017 in Tehran Parke-Shahr, showed positive, significant correlations in all cases between the densities of three parasitoid species and that of aphid nymphs and adults. The density of the parasitoids increased by increasing the density of the aphids. The parasitoids showed aggregative behavior in response to different densities of the host. There was a positive density-dependent correlation between the density of A. craccivora and rate of parasitism. Parasitism rates of nymphs and adult aphids by L. fabarum, B. acalephae, and A. matricariae increased or decreased along with decline or increase in the population of the aphid host. In 2016 spring, the highest rates of parasitism on aphid nymphs by L. fabarum, B. acalephae, and A. matricariae were 46.82, 23.09, and 17.16%, respectively. In 2017 spring, the highest rates of parasitism on aphid nymphs by L. fabarum, B. acalephae, and A. matricariae were 48.97, 21.77, and 15.06%, respectively. So, given the accordance between changes in aphid population and that of parasitoids, and parasitoids’ efficacy in Tehran’s polluted air, they can be used as biological agents in the management of A. craccivora population. 相似文献

Abstract. Two laboratory studies were conducted to investigate effects of treatments for direct current electrical penetration graph (DC-EPG) recordings or 'tether effect', on behaviour and reproductive performance of cowpea aphid Aphis craccivora Koch. The experiments constituted a control study in application of DC-EPGs to analyse cowpea aphid feeding behaviour and host plant resistance mechanisms. Resistant (ICV-12) and susceptible (ICV-1) cultivars of cowpea Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp were used. EPG treatments included two groups of aphids: tethered aphids that were exposed to DC electricity via an attachment of a thin, flexible gold wire on their dorsum using a droplet of adhesive silver paint, and 'free' (untethered) aphids with a dorsal spot of silver paint only. EPGs of the tethered aphids were recorded continuously for c. ! h, whereas from the 'free' aphids recordings were done only for brief periods of 2–5 min, by temporarily contacting a gold wire to the spot of silver paint. Waveform signals generated from resistance fluctuations and electromotive forces, and representing aphid stylet penetration behaviour were recorded. A separate experiment was conducted to investigate effects of EPG treatments on aphid survivorship and population growth. Overall, EPG treatments did not significantly affect aphid stylet penetration behaviour or life-table parameters. However, effects of crop cultivar on those characteristics were significant. Waveform E2, which denotes aphid ingestion in phloem sieve elements, and non-penetration behaviour were important indicators of aphid resistance in ICV-12. Also, apart from the number of aphid generations, other life-table parameters were useful indicators of ICV-12 resistance. Thus, DC-EPGs provided a reliable technique for studying aphid stylet behaviour, and investigation of aphid resistance in cowpeas. 相似文献

Abstract The effect of certain agriculture practices such as susceptibility of six broad bean varieties, space of planting, nitrogen fertilization levels, first irrigation and farmyard manure on the infestation of broad bean crop with the Aphis craccivora Koch was studied at El-Kawsar region, Sohag Governorate (about 495 km south of Cairo, Egypt) throughout the 2003/2004 and 2004/2005 seasons. The results obtained revealed that A. craccivora appeared from November until the second week of April. Also, the faba bean varieties were different in their susceptibility to the infestation with A. craccivora, dividing into three groups: the first one which was susceptible included Giza 674 and Giza Blanka; the second had low resistance and included Giza 843, Giza 2 and Giza 40; and the third group was moderate including Giza 429. The numbers of A. craccivora was significantly increased at 70 kg chemical nitrogen plus farmyard manure than at 40 or 55 units/feddan of chemical nitrogen during the two seasons. The population density of A. craccivora was significantly higher when decreasing the planting space. The population density of A. craccivora increased significantly with an increase of nitrogen fertilization levels during both seasons. The broad bean plants sown on 10 cm and which received N at a rate of 90 kg/fed. harboured the highest numbers of A. craccivora as compared with the other treatment (20 and 30 cm). The results show also that the broad bean plants which were irrigated at 56 and 63 days as a first irrigation harboured highly significant numbers of A. craccivora compared with the plants irrigated at 14, 21 and 28 days. These results also show significant negative correlation between the infestation of A. craccivora and the yield of broad bean plants. 相似文献

Aphis fabae Scopoli (Hemiptera: Aphididae) is heteroecious and polyphagous that is harmful on secondary hosts such as many important agricultural products like beet, common bean, faba bean, potato and other products. This aphid is the cause of more than 33 viral transition. One of the mechanisms of plant resistance is antixenosis. This mechanism influences on placement and nutrition of pests that result in less damage. In this study, antixenosis resistance mechanism of 12 varieties of bean was tested. Experiment was on completely randomised design with 12 treatments and 6 replications. Bean varieties include of white bean, kidney bean and wax bean, and each replication includes one pot, and then, pots were placed under the isolated room that were filled with winged adult aphids in circular form. After 24 and 48?h, aphids and level of nymph production were counted. The lowest number of adult aphids was observed on Sayad variety among 12 varieties (during 24?h). The least number of produced nymphs was in Daneshkade variety. In Sayad variety, the frequency of matured insects and produced nymphs was minimum. 相似文献

Impact of initial density of cowpea aphid Aphis craccivora Koch (Aphididae) at infestation on the growth and yield of aphid-susceptible cowpea cultivar ICV-1 and aphid-resistant cultivar ICV-12, was investigated. Plants at the seedling, flowering and podding stages of development were infested with five aphid densities consisting of 0, 2, 5, 10 and. 20 aphids per plant and maintained for 22 days. Extended leaf heights of plants and aphid counts were recorded at 7, 12, 17 and 22 days after infestation. Two crop growth parameters (biomass duration and leaf area duration), and two plant yield parameters (number of pods per plant and number of seeds per pod) were recorded. Due to the occurrence of parthenogenesis and changes in population dynamics during infestations, aphid densities were converted into cumulative cowpea aphid-days, to facilitate data analyses and interpretation. ANOVA indicated that there was significant (P=s 0.05) difference in aphid-day accumulations between the two cultivars when infested at the seedling stage. Accumulations on cv. ICV-1 were greater than on cv. ICV-12. However, no such differences between the cultivars were detected when plants were infested at flowering and podding stages. Therefore, the seedling stage was used for comparisons of the impact of cowpea aphid-days on the growth and yield parameters of the two cultivars. At the 95% confidence intervals, ICV-12 plants were consistently taller than ICV-1 plants. Infested ICV-1 seedlings showed stunting and other growth deformities which were not observed on ICV-12 plants. Regression analyses revealed substantial reductions in the growth and yield parameters of ICV-1 relative to ICV-12. Overall, cowpea aphid-days provided a convenient and reliable method for studying the aphid population dynamics and the subsequent impact on plant growth and yield performance. 相似文献

Cowpea, Vigna unguiculata was infested at the young, mid-fill and mature pod growth stages with, respectively, one, two and three pre-reproductive adult apterae of Aphis craccivora per pod in a screen house. A. craccivora caused pod shrivelling at the young and mid-fill pod stages, on which the aphid was more fecund. The FAO standard dip-test was used to test resistance of glasshouse populations of Aphis gossypii from chrysanthemums to the organophosphorus insecticides heptenophos and diazinon. Compared with a susceptible population collected in 1981, resistance factors to diazinon of up to 538 were found in populations collected after 1984. Resistance to heptenophos was less than that to diazinon but some populations collected after 1984 were 34 times as resistant as the susceptible strain. Possible reasons for the sudden increase in resistance in A. gossypii and current prospects for control of resistant populations are discussed. 相似文献

Eighty cowpea accessions comprising both improved and local were assessed for their resistance to Callosobruchus maculatus (F.) attack under laboratory conditions (29 ± 3?°C and 65 ± 5% R.H.). Sixty-nine accessions were derived from the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture breeding programmes, four were local cultivars, while seven were improved cultivars from national research institutes. Results showed that there were significant differences among the accessions in terms of number of initial bruchid eggs laid on them, adult emergence, number of seeds damaged and bruchid-induced seed weight loss at three months after artificial infestation with C. maculatus. On IT04K-334-2, IT04K-343-1, IT06K-141, IT99K-216-48-1, IT99K-494-6 and IT99K-529-2, fewer initial eggs were laid and no adult emergence, seed damage or weight loss and were considered highly resistant to C. maculatus. On the other hand, IT03K-337, IT04K-217-51, IT04K-332-1, IT04K-339-1, IT06K-188-49, IT81D-1137, IT845-2231-15, IT93K-452-1, IT04K-154-1, IT96K-610, IT97K-1069-6, IT97K-390-2, Ife Bpc, IT99K-573-2-1, Ife Modupe, IT845-2246, Drum, Ife Brown and Oloyin were the most susceptible with the highest damage indices values (p?<?0.05). 【目的】探讨黄荆Vitex negundo提取物对棉蚜Aphis gossypii的生物活性,并明确其中的有效成分,为进一步开发利用该杀虫植物提供理论基础。【方法】采用不同有机溶剂、超临界CO2萃取和水蒸气蒸馏3种提取方法,分别从黄荆的种子和叶片中提取活性物质。采用浸渍法测定了各提取物对棉蚜无翅成蚜的杀虫活性;并采用酸水提取法提取了其中的生物碱,采用毛细管点滴法测定黄荆生物碱对棉蚜生长发育及蜜露产生的影响。【结果】二氯甲烷种子提取物、甲醇种子提取物和水蒸气蒸馏得到的叶片精油对棉蚜无翅成蚜杀虫活性高,1 200 mg/L处理24 h校正死亡率分别达到86.98%,65.01%和85.27%。黄荆生物碱对棉蚜无翅成蚜有一定的忌避活性,20~40 mg/m L处理12 h时,忌避率在50%以上;对棉蚜无翅成蚜毒杀活性略低于黄荆种子二氯甲烷提取物,LD30浓度处理存活成蚜的产仔量和蜜露分泌量均较对照明显降低,处理到第10天棉蚜已经全部死亡,而对照组棉蚜第10天的存活率却为70%,生物碱处理后的9 d平均单雌棉蚜累计产仔量比对照减少了57.66%。排蜜频率、总排蜜量及单滴蜜露重量较对照处理组分别降低了13.18%,20.00%和8.79%。【结论】黄荆种子二氯甲烷提取物杀棉蚜活性最高,其中的生物碱是主要的杀蚜活性成分且对棉蚜生长发育及产仔和蜜露分泌具有一定的抑制作用。 相似文献

The suitability of Aphis craccivora Koch (Hemiptera: Aphididae) and Bemisia tabaci Gennadius (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) biotype-B eggs and nymphs as prey for pre-imaginal development and survival, adult longevity, and fecundity of the lacewing, Chrysopa pallens (Rambur) (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) was evaluated under laboratory conditions at 25±1°C, 50±10% RH and a photoperiod of 16 h L:8 h D. Survival of C. pallens from first instar to adult eclosion was significantly different between the larvae that fed on the two prey species. C. pallens fed on A. craccivora completed development from egg to adult emergence, but those fed on eggs and nymphs of B. tabaci could not complete development, resulting in abnormal pupae and no normal adults emerged. The net reproductive rate (R 0), intrinsic rate of natural population increase (r m ), finite rate of increase (λ), mean generation time (T), index of population trend (I), doubling time (DT), and gross reproductive of rate (GRR) of C. pallens that fed on A. craccivora were 201.9 eggs per female, 0.13/d, 1.1/d, 40.1 d, 68.5, 5.2 d, 203.1 eggs per female, respectively. These results could be useful for mass-rearing of C. pallens and for understanding its population dynamics in the field in relation to the availability of different prey species. 相似文献

Strains of the aphid Aphis gossypii, taken from cucumber in UK glasshouses were tested for resistance to pirimicarb, diazinon and heptenophos. Compared to a susceptible strain, resistance factors to diazinon of up to 659 were found in populations collected between 1987 and 1989. Compared to the same susceptible strain, diazinon-resistant populations also showed a reduced response to heptenophos. All field populations tested against pirimicarb were resistant. Host plant preference tests showed that all strains (including stock cultures) tested could readily breed on cotton. However strains originally collected from chrysanthemum did not transfer to cucumber and likewise strains from cucumber would not colonise chrysanthemum. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of four of the aphid strains showed differences in migration rates and intensity of staining of esterase bands. Intensity of staining was correlated with the degree of diazinon resistance. 相似文献

This study was conducted to examine the effects of some aphicidal biologically active plant compounds on the natural enemies of the cowpea aphid,Aphis craccivora Koch. In the laboratory, acetone extracts ofCymbopogon citratus (DC) Stapf.,Momordica charantia L.,Zingiber officinale Rose andAframomum melegueta (Rose) K. Schum, were tested for toxicity to two coccinellid species,Cheilomenes lunata (Fabricius) andCheilomenes vicina (Mulsant) predaceous on the aphid. All the extracts were highly ovicidal to eggs of the two coccinellid predators. None of the extracts caused mortality of eitherC. lunata orC. vicina fourth-instar larvae after 24 h. Larvae treated with the extracts consumed fewer aphids in 24 h than untreated larvae. Ability to pupate was also significantly reduced in larvae treated with the extracts. Twenty-five weed species that commonly infest farmlands in Ondo, Nigeria were sampled monthly in 1985 for Aphis craccivora. The aphid was found on Euphorbia hirta, E. glomifera and Boerhaavia diffusa, mainly during the off-seasons of the principal host plants. In the laboratory, A. craccivora reared on Vigna unguiculata showed lower progeny mortality, and produced heavier and more fecund females than those reared on any of the three alternative weed hosts. Progeny mortality was also lower, and adult weight higher, on B. diffusa than on the Euphorbia weeds. 相似文献

Chromosomal regions of sorghum, Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench, conferring resistance to greenbug, Schizaphis graminum (Rondani), biotypes C, E, I, and K from four resistance sources were evaluated by restriction fragment-length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis. At least nine loci, dispersed on eight linkage groups, were implicated in affecting sorghum resistance to greenbug. The nine loci were named according to the genus of the host plant (Sorghum) and greenbug (Schizaphis graminum). Most resistance loci were additive or incompletely dominant. Several digenic interactions were identified, and in each case, these nonadditive interactions accounted for a greater portion of the resistance phenotype than did independently acting loci. One locus in three of the four sorghum crosses appeared responsible for a large portion of resistance to greenbug biotypes C and E. None of the loci identified were effective against all biotypes studied. Correspondingly, the RFLP results indicated resistance from disparate sorghums may be a consequence of allelic variation at particular loci. To prove this, it will be necessary to fine map and clone genes for resistance to greenbug from various sorghum sources. 相似文献
