In order to examine the possible role of unsaturated fatty acids in photosynthesis of halophytes under high salinity, the effect of salinity on plant growth, chlorophyll (Chl) content, photochemical efficiency of PSII, membrane lipid content and fatty acids composition of a C3 euhalophyte Suaeda salsa L. was investigated. Salt stress induced a slight increase of the maximal photochemical efficiency of PSII (Fv/Fm), actual PSII efficiency (ΦPSII), Chl a content and Chl a/b ratio. The unsaturated fatty acid content also increased under salt stress. The proportion of MGDG, DGDG, SQDG, and PC decreased, while the proportion of PG increased from 10.9% to 26.9% under salt stress. These results suggest that S. salsa displays high resistance to photoinhibition under salt stress and that increased concentration of unsaturated fatty acids in membrane lipids of S. salsa enhances the tolerance of photosystem II to salt stress.  相似文献

The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of Glomus mosseae on chlorophyll (Chl) content, Chl fluorescence parameters and chloroplast ultrastructure of beach plum seedlings under 2% NaCl stress. The results showed that compared to control, both Chl a and Chl b contents of NaCl + G. mosseae treatment were significantly lower during the salt stress, while Chl a/b ratio increased significantly. The increase of minimal fluorescence of darkadapted state (F0), and the decrease of maximal fluorescence of dark-adapted state (Fm) and variable fluorescence (Fv) values were inhibited. The maximum quantum yield of PSII photochemistry (Fv/Fm), the maximum energy transformation potential of PSII photochemistry (Fv/F0) and the effective quantum yield of PSII photochemistry (??PSII) increased significantly, especially the latter two variables. The values of the photochemical quenching coefficient (qP) and the nonphotochemical quenching (NPQ) were similar between G. mosseae inoculation and noninoculation. It could be concluded that G. mosseae inoculation could protect the photosystem II (PSII) of beach plum, enhance the efficiency of primary light energy conversion and improve the primitive response of photosynthesis under salinity stress. Meanwhile, G. mosseae inoculation was beneficial to maintain the integrity of thylakoid membrane and to protect the structure and function of chloroplast, which suggested that G. mosseae can alleviate the damage of NaCl stress to chloroplast.  相似文献

The effect of four different NaCl concentrations (from 0 to 102 mM NaCl) on seedlings leaves of two corn (Zea mays L.) varieties (Aristo and Arper) was investigated through chlorophyll (Chl) a fluorescence parameters, photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, photosynthetic pigments concentration, tissue hydration and ionic accumulation. Salinity treatments showed a decrease in maximal efficiency of PSII photochemistry (Fv/Fm) in dark-adapted leaves. Moreover, the actual PSII efficiency (ϕPSII), photochemical quenching coefficient (qp), proportion of PSII centers effectively reoxidized, and the fraction of light used in PSII photochemistry (%P) were also dropped with increasing salinity in light-adapted leaves. Reductions in these parameters were greater in Aristo than in Arper. The tissue hydration decreased in salt-treated leaves as did the photosynthesis, stomatal conductance (g s) and photosynthetic pigments concentration essentially at 68 and 102 mM NaCl. In both varieties the reduction of photosynthesis was mainly due to stomatal closure and partially to PSII photoinhibition. The differences between the two varieties indicate that Aristo was more susceptible to salt-stress damage than Arper which revealed a moderate regulation of the leaf ionic accumulation.  相似文献

In this study, the effects of lanthanum were investigated on contents of pigments, chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence, antioxidative enzymes, and biomass of maize seedlings under salt stress. The results showed that salt stress significantly decreased the contents of Chl and carotenoids, maximum photochemical efficiency of PSII (Fv/Fm), photochemical quenching (qP), and quantum efficiency of PSII photochemistry (ΦPSII), net photosynthetic rate (PN), and biomass. Salt stress increased nonphotochemical quenching (qN), the activities of ascorbate peroxidase, catalase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and the contents of malondialdehyde and hydrogen peroxide compared with control. Pretreatment with lanthanum prior to salt stress significantly enhanced the contents of Chl and carotenoids, Fv/Fm, qP, qN, ΦPSII, PN, biomass, and activities of the above antioxidant enzymes compared with the salt-stressed plants. Pretreatment with lanthanum also significantly reduced the contents of malondialdehyde and hydrogen peroxide induced by salt stress. Our results suggested that lanthanum can improve salt tolerance of maize seedlings by enhancing the function of photosynthetic apparatus and antioxidant capacity.  相似文献

The influence of triacontanol in a form of Tomatex preparation on basic indices of chlorophyll fluorescence in tomato leaves (Delfina cv.), yield of fruits, and dry matter content in fruits was evaluated in a pot experiment situated in vegetation hall in 1999. Tomatex was applied into roots at seedling stage (6–7 leaves) or at the stage of seedling and flowering of the 2nd inflorescence bunch. Plants were given by 0.3, 3.0, and 30 μg triacontanol per pot at a single dosage. Results obtained have shown that triacontanol regardless of the dose applied, significantly increased the maximal efficiency of PSII photochemistry in the dark (Fv/Fm), the efficiency of excitation capture by open PSII reaction centers (Fv’/Fm’), the actual quantum yield of PSII electron transport in the light-adapted state (ΦPSII), the photochemical quenching coefficient (Qp). However, nonphotochemical quenching coefficient (Qn) and non-radiative dissipation (NPQ) were decreased. Plants treated with triacontanol at the doses of 0.3 and 3.0 μg had significantly higher yields of fruits than control. No differences were found between plants treated once and twice with the growth regulator. Triacontanol did not show univocal effects on dry matter content in fruits either.  相似文献

After saturating light illumination for 3 h the potential photochemical efficiency of photosystem Ⅱ (PSII) (FJF,, the ratio of variable to maximal fluorescence) decreased markedly and recovered basically to the level before saturating light illumination after dark recovery for 3 h in both soybean and wheat leaves, indicating that the decline in FJ/Fm is a reversible down-regulation. Also, the saturating light illumination led to significant decreases in the low temperature (77 K) chlorophyll fluorescence parameters F685 (chlorophyll a fluorescence peaked at 685 nm) and F685/F735 (F735, chlorophyll a fluorescence peaked at 735 nm) in soybean leaves but not in wheat leaves. Moreover, trypsin (a protease) treatment resulted in a remarkable decrease in the amounts of PsbS protein (a nuclear gene psbS-encoded 22 kDa protein) in the thylakoids from saturating light-illuminated (SI), but not in those from darkadapted (DT) and dark-recovered (DRT) soybean leaves. However, the treatment did not cause such a decrease in amounts of the PsbS protein in the thylakoids from saturating light-illuminated wheat leaves. These results support the conclusion that saturating light illumination induces a reversible dissociation of some light-harvesting complex Ⅱ (LHClI) from PSII reaction center complex in soybean leaf but not in wheat leaf.  相似文献

Chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence of warm day/cool night temperature exposed Phalaenopsis plants was measured hourly during 48 h to study the simultaneous temperature and irradiance response of the photosynthetic physiology. The daily pattern of fluorescence kinetics showed abrupt changes of photochemical quenching (qP), non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) and quantum yield of photosystem II electron transport (ΦPSII) upon transition from day to night and vice versa. During the day, the course of ΦPSII and NPQ was related to the air temperature pattern, while maximum quantum efficiency of PSII photochemistry (Fv/Fm) revealed a rather light dependent response. Information on these daily dynamics in fluorescence kinetics is important with respect to meaningful data collection and interpretation.  相似文献

This study aimed to evaluate the behavior of zucchini (Cucurbita pepo L.) and cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) under boron (B) excess. Plants were grown under greenhouse conditions in a sandy soil–peat mixture using a nutrient solution containing 0.2 (control), 10 and 20 mg L?1 B. Visible symptoms were quantified and leaf B accumulation, gas exchanges, chlorophyll (Chl) a fluorescence, malondialdehyde by-products and antioxidants were investigated 20 days after the beginning of the treatments. Boron toxicity induced oxidative load and leaf necrotic burns coupled with the reduction of leaf growth and biomass accumulation in both species. Boron excess resulted in a decrease of Chl a/b ratio, potential (Fv/Fm) and actual (ΦPSII) PSII quantum efficiency, photosynthetic rate (Pn), stomatal conductance (gs), and transpiration (E) as well. A general stimulation of the antioxidant enzymes ascorbate peroxidase, catalase and superoxide dismutase was observed, and a significant increase in the oxidized form of ascorbate and glutathione was evidenced for treated plants of both species. A difference between the two species was observed: C. pepo appeared to be more sensitive to B stress being damaged at all B concentration. C. sativus grown at 10 mg L?1 B in nutrient solution showed some down-regulated mechanisms, i.e. increase in Chl b content and a good photochemical PSII efficiency as well as a higher amount of constitutive antioxidant molecules, that, however, are not sufficient to contrast the negative effects of B.  相似文献

Natural senescence of Cucurbita pepo (zucchini) cotyledons was accompanied by a gradual degradation of reserve proteins (globulins) and an intensive decrease in the content of both large subunit (LSU) and small subunit (SSU) of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (Rubisco). The net photosynthetic rate, the primary photochemical activity of PSII, estimated by the variable fluorescence (Fv)/maximal fluorescence (Fm) ratio (Fv/Fm) and the actual quantum yield of PSII electron transport in the light-adapted state (ΦPSII) also progressively decreased during natural senescence. In contrast, the fraction of the absorbed light energy, which is not used for photochemistry (LNU) increased with progression of senescence. The decline in the photosynthetic rate started earlier in ontogenesis compared with the down-regulation of the functional activity of PSII, thus suggesting the existence of protective mechanisms which maintain higher efficiency of the photochemical electron transport reactions of photosynthesis compared with the dark reactions of the Calvin cycle during earlier stages of natural senescence. Decapitation of the epicotyl above the senescing cotyledons resulted in full recovery of the polypeptide profile in the rejuvenated cotyledons. In addition, the photosynthetic rate increased reaching values that exceeded those measured in juvenile cotyledons. The photochemical efficiency of PSII also gradually recovered, although it did not reach the maximum values measured in the presenescent cotyledons.  相似文献

Brassinosteroids (BRs), an important class of plant steroidal hormones, play a significant role in the amelioration of various biotic and abiotic stresses. 24-epibrassinolide (EBR), an active brassinosteroid, was applied exogenously in different concentrations to characterize a role of BRs in tolerance of melon (Cucumis melo L.) to high temperature (HT) stress and to investigate photosynthetic performance of HT-stressed, Honglvzaocui (HT-tolerant) and Baiyuxiang (HTsensitive), melon variety. Under HT, Honglvzaocui showed higher biomass accumulation and a lower index of heat injury compared with the Baiyuxiang. The exogenous application of 1.0 mg L?1 EBR, the most effective concentration, alleviated dramatically the growth suppression caused by HT in both ecotypes. Similarly, EBR pretreatment of HTstressed plants attenuated the decrease in relative chlorophyll content, net photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, stomatal limitation, and water-use efficiency (WUE), as well as the maximal quantum yield of PSII photochemistry (Fv/Fm), the efficiency of excitation capture of open PSII center, the effective quantum yield of PSII photochemistry (ΦPSII), photochemical quenching coefficient, and the photon activity distribution coefficients of PSI (α). EBR pretreatment further inhibited the increase in intracellular CO2 concentration, leaf transpiration rate, minimal fluorescence of dark-adapted state, nonphotochemical quenching, thermal dissipation, and photon activity distribution coefficients of PSII. Results obtained here demonstrated that EBR could alleviate the detrimental effects of HT on the plant growth by improving photosynthesis in leaves, mainly reflected as up-regulation of photosynthetic pigment contents and photochemical activity associated with PSI.  相似文献

The interactive effects of light intensity and controlled-release nitrogen fertilizer (CRNF) supply on growth, gas exchange, and chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence parameters of two species of potted Hosta seedlings, original species of the genus Hosta in China, were studied. N4 (4 g of CRNF per pot), N8 (8 g of CRNF per pot), and sometimes N12 (12 g of CRNF per pot), significantly increased total dry weights, net photosynthetic rate (P N), stomatal conductance (g s), transpiration rate (E), the maximum quantum yield of PSII photochemistry (F v/F m), the maximum ratio of quantum yields of photochemical and concurrent nonphotochemical processes in PSII (F v/F 0), actual efficiency of photochemical energy conversion in PSII under light (ΦPSII), and photochemical quenching coefficient (qP), but significantly decreased internal CO2 concentration (C i) and nonphotochemical Chl fluorescence quenching (NPQ) compared to control plants at different growth stages of the two Hosta species in two levels of light intensities (50% of natural light (L50) and 70% of natural light (L70)). Based on the available data, we concluded that the increments in total dry weights of Hosta clausa var. ensata and Hosta ventricosa by appropriate amount of CRNF supply treatments under L50 and/or L70 light conditions are directly related to the increments in the P N, which may be due to both stomatal and nonstomatal improvements for a longer growing time. Furthermore, there was an interaction between light intensity and CRNF supply treatments on growth and photosynthetic characteristics of the two Hosta species. The adaptability of Hosta plants with obvious stoloniferous rootstock to stronger light was higher than that of Hosta plants without obvious stoloniferous rootstock.  相似文献

In this work, photosystem II (PSII) photochemistry, leaf water potential, and pigment contents of male and female Pistacia lentiscus L. were investigated during a seasonal cycle at three different, arid locations: superior semiarid, inferior semiarid, and arid. The results showed that the gender, season, and the site conditions interacted to influence the quantum yield and pigment contents in P. lentiscus. Predawn leaf water status was determined only by the site and season. The annual patterns of PSII maximum quantum efficiency (Fv/Fm) were characterized by a suboptimal activity during the winter, especially, populations with the more negative water potential exhibited a lower chlorophyll (Chl) a content and chronic photoinhibition irrespective of a gender. We also demonstrated that both photochemical or nonphotochemical mechanisms were involved to avoid the photoinhibition and both of them depended on the season. This plasticity of photosynthetic machinery was accompanied by changes in carotenoids and Chl balance. In the spring, the female Fv/Fm ratio was significantly higher than in male individuals, when the sexual dimorphism occurred during the fruiting stage, regardless of site conditions. P. lentiscus sex-ratio in Mediterranean areas, where precipitations exceeded 500 mm, was potentially female-biased. Among the fluorescence parameters investigated, nonphotochemical quenching coefficient appeared as the most useful one and a correlation was found between Chl a content and Fv/Fm. These results suggest that functional ecology studies would be possible on a large scale through light reflectance analysis.  相似文献

The effect of exogenous applied nitric oxide on photosynthesis under heat stress was investigated in rice seedlings. High temperature resulted in significant reductions of the net photosynthetic rate (P N) due to non-stomatal components. Application of nitric oxide donors, sodium nitroprusside (SNP) or S-nitrosoglutathione (GSNO), dramatically alleviated the decrease of P N induced by high temperature. Chlorophyll fluorescence measurement revealed that high temperature caused significant increase of the initial fluorescence (F o) and non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) whereas remarkable decrease of the maximal fluorescence (F m), the maximal efficiency of PSII photochemistry (F v/F m), the actual PSII efficiency (ΦPSII), and photochemical quenching (q p). In the presence of SNP or GSNO pretreatment, the increase of F o and decrease of F m, F v/F m, ΦPSII and q p were markedly mitigated, but NPQ was further elevated. Moreover, with SNP or GSNO pretreatment, H2O2 accumulation and electrolyte leakage induced by heat treatment were significantly reduced, whereas zeaxanthin content and carotenoid content relative to chlorophyll were elevated. The potassium salt of 2-(4-carboxyphenyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide (cPTIO), a specific NO scavenger, arrested NO donors mediated effects. These results suggest that NO can effectively protect photosynthesis from damage induced by heat stress. The activation effect of NO on photosynthesis may be mediated by acting as ROS scavenging, or/and alleviating oxidative stress via maintaining higher carotenoid content relative to chlorophyll or/and enhancing thermal dissipation of excess energy through keeping higher level of zeaxanthin content under heat stress.  相似文献

Kalanchoë daigremontiana, a CAM plant grown in a greenhouse, was subjected to severe water stress. The changes in photosystem II (PSII) photochemistry were investigated in water‐stressed leaves. To separate water stress effects from photoinhibition, water stress was imposed at low irradiance (daily peak PFD 150 μmol m?2 s?1). There were no significant changes in the maximal efficiency of PSII photochemistry (Fv/Fm), the traditional fluorescence induction kinetics (OIP) and the polyphasic fluorescence induction kinetics (OJIP), suggesting that water stress had no direct effects on the primary PSII photochemistry in dark‐adapted leaves. However, PSII photochemistry in light‐adapted leaves was modified in water‐stressed plants. This was shown by the decrease in the actual PSII efficiency (ΦPSII), the efficiency of excitation energy capture by open PSII centres (Fv′/Fm′), and photochemical quenching (qP), as well as a significant increase in non‐photochemical quenching (NPQ) in particular at high PFDs. In addition, photoinhibition and the xanthophyll cycle were investigated in water‐stressed leaves when exposed to 50% full sunlight and full sunlight. At midday, water stress induced a substantial decrease in Fv/Fm which was reversible. Such a decrease was greater at higher irradiance. Similar results were observed in ΦPSII, qP, and Fv′/Fm′. On the other hand, water stress induced a significant increase in NPQ and the level of zeaxanthin via the de‐epoxidation of violaxanthin and their increases were greater at higher irradiance. The results suggest that water stress led to increased susceptibility to photoinhibition which was attributed to a photoprotective process but not to a photodamage process. Such a photoprotection was associated with the enhanced formation of zeaxanthin via de‐epoxidation of violaxanthin. The results also suggest that thermal dissipation of excess energy associated with the xanthophyll cycle may be an important adaptive mechanism to help protect the photosynthetic apparatus from photoinhibitory damage for CAM plants normally growing in arid and semi‐arid areas where they are subjected to a combination of water stress and high light.  相似文献

In order to investigate the effect of day/night temperature difference (DIF) on photosynthetic characteristics of tomato plants (Solanum lycopersicum, cv. Jinguan 5) at fruit stage, an experiment was carried out in climate chambers. Five day/night temperature regimes (16/34, 19/31, 25/25, 31/19, and 34/16°C) with respective DIFs of -18, -12, 0, +12, and +18 were used and measured at mean daily temperature of 25°C. The results showed that chlorophyll (Chl) a, Chl b, net photosynthetic rate (PN), stomatal conductance (gs), maximum quantum yield of PSII photochemistry (Fv/Fm), effective quantum yield of PSII photochemistry (?PSII), and photochemical quenching (qp) significantly increased under positive DIF, while they decreased with negative DIF. In contrast, the Chl a/b ratio and nonphotochemical quenching (NPQ) decreased under positive DIF, while increased with negative DIF. Chl a, Chl b, PN, gs, Fv/Fm, ?PSII, and qp were larger under +12 DIF than those at +18 DIF, while Chl a/b and NPQ showed an opposite trend.  相似文献

To assess the role of redox state of photosystem II (PSII) acceptor side electron carriers in PSII photochemical activity, we studied sub-millisecond fluorescence kinetics of the wild type Synechocystis PCC 6803 and its mutants with natural variability in the redox state of the plastoquinone (PQ) pool. In cyanobacteria, dark adaptation tends to reduce PQ pool and induce a shift of the cyanobacterial photosynthetic apparatus to State 2, whereas illumination oxidizes PQ pool, leading to State 1 (Mullineaux, C. W., and Holzwarth, A. R. (1990) FEBS Lett., 260, 245-248). We show here that dark-adapted Ox mutant with naturally reduced PQ is characterized by slower QA reoxidation and O2 evolution rates, as well as lower quantum yield of PSII primary photochemical reactions (Fv/Fm) as compared to the wild type and SDH–mutant, in which the PQ pool remains oxidized in the dark. These results indicate a large portion of photochemically inactive PSII reaction centers in the Ox mutant after dark adaptation. While light adaptation increases Fv/Fm in all tested strains, indicating PSII activation, by far the greatest increase in Fv/Fm and O2 evolution rates is observed in the Ox mutant. Continuous illumination of Ox mutant cells with low-intensity blue light, that accelerates QA reoxidation, also increases Fv/Fm and PSII functional absorption cross-section (590 nm); this effect is almost absent in the wild type and SDH–mutant. We believe that these changes are caused by the reorganization of the photosynthetic apparatus during transition from State 2 to State 1. We propose that two processes affect the PSII activity during changes of light conditions: 1) reversible inactivation of PSII, which is associated with the reduction of electron carriers on the PSII acceptor side in the dark, and 2) PSII activation under low light related to the increase in functional absorption cross-section at 590 nm.  相似文献

In order to investigate the photoprotective function of photorespiration in grapevine under water stress, potted grapevines (Vitis vinifera L. cv. Cabernet Sauvignon) were randomly divided into three uniform groups for well-watered [watered every morning to keep the relative water content (RWC) of soil over 70 %], water-stress adapted (drought-adapted at 30 % relative soil water content for 30 days), and water stress without adaptation treatment (water-stressed to 30 % relative soil water content for 3 days). Net assimilation rate (A N), stomatal conductance (g s), substomatal CO2 concentration (C i), transpiration rate (E), actual photochemical efficiency of PSII (ΦPSII), and maximum photochemical efficiency of PSII (Fv/Fm) were recorded by combining measurements of gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence. Gross photorespiration (Pr), photosynthetic electron partitioning (JC/JT), photochemical quenching coefficient (qP), and non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) were also calculated. The ratio of net assimilation rate to transpiration rate (A N/E) was used as an indicator of water use efficiency (WUE). A N, apparent Pr, ΦPSII, Fv/Fm, qp, and g s decreased, NPQ increased, and gross Pr sustained at a high level under water stress. This suggests that both photorespiration and energy dissipation play important roles in protecting photosynthetic apparatus against photoinhibition. C i in water-stressed plants without adaptation treatment increased, which indicates the leaves suffered a non-stomatal limitation, while the water-stress adaped plants only suffered a stomatal limitation indicated by low C i.  相似文献

In this study, the gas exchange, chlorophyll fluorescence, and antioxidant activity in eight tall fescue cultivars were investigated under aluminum stress. The results showed that the net photosynthetic rate (P N) and stomatal conductance (g s) were decreased, while the intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci) was stable or increased under Al stress conditions. The efficiency of excitation capture by open PSII reaction centers (Fv/Fm), the maximum quantum yield of PSII photochemistry (F v/F m), the quantum yield of PSII electron transport (ΦPSII), and the photochemical quenching (qP) were also decreased after Al stress, while the non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) was increased. Moreover, Al stress increased the antioxidant activities and MDA contents in each tall fescue cultivars. However, there was a lot genotype differences between the Al-tolerant and Al-sensitive cultivars. Cv. Barrington was the most sensitive cultivar and cv. Crossfire 2 was the most tolerant cultivar. The excessive excitation energy could not be dissipated efficiently by antenna pigments, and reactive oxygen species could not be scavenged efficiently, thereby resulting in membrane lipid peroxidation in cv. Barrington under Al stress conditions.  相似文献

The effects are reported here of Benzoxazolin-2(3H)-one (BOA), an allelopathic compound, on plant water relations, growth, components of chlorophyll fluorescence, and carbon isotope discrimination in lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.). Lettuce seedlings were grown in 1:1 Hoagland solution in perlite culture medium in environmentally controlled glasshouse. After 30 days, BOA was applied at concentration of 0.1, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 mM and distilled water (control). BOA, in the range (0.1–1.5 mM), decreased the shoot length, root length, leaf and root fresh weight. Within this concentration range, BOA significantly reduced relative water content while leaf osmotic potential remained unaltered. Stress response of lettuce was evaluated on the basis of six days of treatment with 1.5 mM BOA by analyzing several chlorophyll fluorescence parameters determined under dark-adapted and steady state conditions. There was no change in initial fluorescence (Fo) in response to BOA treatment while maximum chlorophyll fluorescence (Fm) was significantly reduced. BOA treatment significantly reduced variable fluorescence (Fv) on first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth day. Quantum efficiency of open PSII reaction centers (Fv/Fm) in the dark-adapted state was significantly reduced in response to BOA treatment. Quantum yield of photosystem II (ΦPSII) electron transport was significantly reduced because of decrease in the efficiency of excitation energy trapping of PSII reaction centers. Maximum fluorescence in light-adapted leaves (F′m) was significantly decreased but there was no change in initial fluorescence in light-adapted state (F′o) in response to 1.5 mM BOA treatment. BOA application significantly reduced photochemical fluorescence quenching (qP) indicating that the balance between excitation rate and electron transfer rate has changed leading to a more reduced state of PSII reaction centers. Non photochemical quenching (NPQ) was also significantly reduced by BOA treatment on third, fourth and fifth day. BOA had dominant effect on C isotope ratios (δ13C) that was significantly less negative (?26.93) at 1.0 mM concentration as compared to control (?27.61). Carbon isotope discrimination (Δ13C) values were significantly less (19.45) as compared to control (20.17) at 1.0 mM. BOA also affect ratio of intercellular to air CO2 concentration (ci/ca) that was significantly less (0.66) as compared to control (0.69) when treated with 1.0 mM BOA. Protein content of lettuce leaf tissue decreased under BOA treatment at 1.5 mM concentration as compared to control.  相似文献
