A new coumarin from Perezia multiflora

A new highly oxidized coumarin was isolated from the roots of Perezia multiflora. Its structure was elucidated as 3,4,8-trimethoxy-6-hydroxy-5-formyl-2$\text{H}$-1-benzopyran-2-one.     

Daucane esters from Ferula communis subsp. communis

Fourteen daucane esters together with a known propiophenone 3,4-methylenedioxy-5-hydroxy-propiophenone, were isolated from Ferula communis subsp. communis. Except for the 6-(p-anisic acid) ester of jaeschkeanadiol all these esters are new. Structures were elucidated using spectral properties of the esters and their partial hydrolysis products. X-ray diffraction analysis of one of the compounds confirmed its structure including the stereochemical assignments made on the basis of spectral data.     

Carotane sesquiterpenes from Ferula lancerottensis

Six new carotane sesquiterpenes, the p-hydroxybenzoate of epoxyjaeschkeanadiol the p-methoxybenzoate and p-hydroxybenzoate of lancerodiol, lancerodiol, the p-hydroxybenzoate of lancerotriol and the p-methoxybenzoate of linkitriol, and the already known p-hydroxybenzoate of jaeschkeanadiol have been isolated from Ferula lancerottensis.     

Triterpenes from Ferula linkii

Two new natural triterpenes, 3β-acetoxyolean-9,12-diene and 3β-acetoxy-6β-hydroxyolean-9,12-diene, were isolated from Ferula linkii.     

Eight carotane sesquiterpenes from Ferula linkii

Six new carotane sesquiterpenes, the p-methoxybenzoate-, isovalerate- and veratrate of epoxyjaesckeanadiol, the 1-acetate, 5-isovalerate of ferulinkiol, the 1-acetate, 5-isovalerate of lapiferol and the 1-acetate of lapiferol, and the already known p-methoxybenzoate of jaesckeanadiol and lapiferin have been isolated from Ferula linkii.     

The structure of two new coumarins from the roots of Lomatium columbianum

Two new coumarins, obtained from the roots of Lomatium columbianum are shown to be trans-p-coumaroyllomatin and cis-p-coumaroyllomatin. Furthermore, the roots afforded columbianadin, selinidin, lomatin, (+)-dihydrooroselol, and a mixture of monoesters of khellactone.

Rivularinin,a new saponin from Anemone rivularis

A new saponin, rivularinin, has been isolated from the ethanolic extract of Anemone rivularis (Ranunculaceae). The saponin was shown to be [α-l-arabinofuranosyl(1→2)-α-l-rhamnopyranosyl (1→4)-β-d-glucopyranosyl(1→4)-β-d-glucuronopyranosyl(1→3)]-3β-hydroxy-olean-12-en-28-oic acid.     

A new alkaloid from south african Conium species

Recent screening of South African Conium species for alkaloids as part of taxonomic studies has yielded γ-coniceine, coniine, methylconiine, conhydrine and a new alkaloid N-methylpseudoconhydrine. The relative stereochemistry of N-methylpseudoconhydrine was ascertained by ¹H NMR decoupling experiments. This latter alkaloid was found in significant amounts in the leaf and stem of some plants investigated and was the major alkaloid along with conhydrine in the leaf and stem of one group of high altitude plants. These plants also contained significant amounts of volatile oil, the major monoterpene being myrcene.     

Arenophthalide A: A new phthalide glycoside from Helichrysum arenarium roots

Spectral data and degradations were used to determine the structure of arenophthalide A, a glycoside of the formula C₁₉H₂₄O₉, isolated from the roots of Helichrysum arenarium. Structure I was assigned to the compound.     

A diterpene acid from baccharis tucumanensis

The new clerodane diterpene 1 was isolated from the aerial parts of Baccharis tucumanensis (Compositae). Its structure has been determined from spectral data combined with chemical transformations.     

Trichoclin,a new furocoumarin from trichocline incana

The structure for trichoclin, (E)-8-(3-methyl-4-hydroxy-2-butenyloxy)-psoralen, a new furocoumarin isolated from Trichocline incana, has been established. Phellopterin and isopimpinellin were also obtained. The new side chain of trichoclin was confirmed by synthesis.     

A coumarin from Perezia coerulescens

The roots of Perezia coerulescens contain ψ-taraxasteryl acetate, β-amyrin acetate, 8-hydroxypereflorin, pereflorin B and a new compound identified as 3,4,8-trimethoxy-5-formyl coumarin.     

Metabolites of Cercospora. Taiwapyrone,an α-pyrone of unusual structure from Cercospora taiwanensis

(+)-Mellein (1), cis-3S,4S-4-hydroxymellein (3), and taiwapyrone (4), a new α-pyrone, have been isolated from the mycelium of Cercospora taiwanensis, grown on potato-agar. The structure and absolute configuration of (3) and (4) have been elucidated.     

Four new coumarins from the roots of Peucedanum arenarium

The roots of Peucedanum arenarium var. arenarium revealed the presence of 4 new natural coumarins. By spectral data their structures were elucidated as follows: peuarin, 3′-angeloyl-4′-methylisokhellactone; peuchlorin, 3′-angeloyl-4′-(2″-hydroxy-2″-methyl-3″-chloro)-butyroylisokhellactone; peuchlorinin, 3′-(2″-methylepoxy)-butyroyl-4′-(2″-hydroxy-2″-methyl-3″-chloro)-butyroylisokhellactone; peucloridin 3′,4′-di-(2″-hydroxy-2″-methyl-3″-chloro)-butyroylisokhellactone.     

Edgeworthin,a new bis-coumarin from Edgeworthia gardneri

Besides daphnoretin and edgeworthin, a new bis-coumarin, was isolated from the stem-bark of Edgeworthia gardneri. Spectral and chemical evidence led to a structure in which two coumarin units are linked by an oxygen bridge between carbons 3 and 7′.
