A parsimony‐based phylogenetic analysis of eighty‐three morphological characters of adults and immatures of seventy representatives of the tribes and subfamilies of Membracidae and two outgroup taxa was conducted to evaluate the status and relationships of these taxa. Centrotinae apparently gave rise to Nessorhinini and Oxyrhachini (both formerly treated as subfamilies, now syn.n. and syn.reinst., respectively, of Centrotinae). In contrast to previous analyses, a clade comprising Nicomiinae, Centronodinae, Centrodontinae, and the unplaced genera Holdgatiella Evans, Euwalkeria Goding and Antillotolania Ramos was recovered, but relationships within this clade were not well resolved. Nodonica bispinigera, gen.n. and sp.n., is described and placed in Centrodontini based on its sister‐group relationship to a clade comprising previously described genera of this tribe. Membracinae and Heteronotinae were consistently monophyletic. Neither Darninae nor Smiliinae, as previously defined, was monophyletic on the maximally parsimonious cladograms, but constraining both as monophyletic groups required only one additional step. The monophyly of Stegaspidinae, including Deiroderes Ramos (unplaced in Membracidae), was supported on some but not all equally parsimonious cladograms. More detailed analyses of individual subfamilies, as well as morphological data on the undescribed immatures of several membracid tribes and genera, will be needed to elucidate relationships among tribes and genera. A key to the subfamilies and tribes is provided.  相似文献

The phylogenetic relationships of Lordiphosa and some taxa in Drosophilinae were analysed on the basis of a total of forty‐one selected drosophilid species. These included eighteen species of five Lordiphosa species‐groups as the main target, twenty‐three species representative of the major drosophiline ingroup taxa and four species of Steganinae as outgroup. Sixty‐eight morphological characters of adults were subjected to cladistic analysis. From the results it is concluded that Lordiphosa is polyphyletic; the Lo. tenuicauda species‐group and genus Nesiodrosophila form a single monophyletic group; Lordiphosa proper (i.e. Lordiphosa spp. minus the tenuicauda group) comprises another monophyletic group; within Lordiphosa proper the fenestrarum, nigricolor and denticeps groups are all monophyletic, but monophyly of the miki group is not strongly supported; genera Hirtodrosophila and Scaptomyza and subgenus Sophophora are all monophyletic; and within Drosophilinae, genus Scaptodrosophila is the first to have split from the main lineage, but the branching order of other clades, Chymomyza, Lordiphosa proper, Sophophora, Hirtodrosophila, Nesiodrosophila+ Lo. tenuicauda group, Scaptomyza, Dorsilopha and subgenus Drosophila, remains unresolved. The topology of maximum parsimony cladograms suggests that Lordiphosa proper lies close to Sophophora as proposed previously, although its phylogenetic position could not be determined conclusively. By contrast, bootstrap values tended to contradict another hypothesis that Lordiphosa and Scaptomyza are sister groups.  相似文献

Phylogenetic relationships among forty‐nine taxa representing twenty‐four genera of Aphidiinae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) were investigated using DNA sequence of a portion of the mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene and parsimony analysis. Seven species in six other subfamilies of Braconidae were used as outgroup. The results suggested that members of Aphidiinae are monophyletic. The basal lineage of Aphidiinae was Aclitus in weighted and unweighted parsimony analyses and Praini was basal relative to Ephedrini. With the exception of Pauesia and Aphidius, all genera were monophyletic. The results support generic status for Euaphidius, but not for Lysaphidus. Diaeretus leucopterus was internal to a clade composed of three Pauesia species, suggesting that the latter genus may be paraphyletic. A combined analysis that included DNA sequence of 16S rRNA, NADH1 dehydrogenase and 28S rRNA resulted in more robust cladograms with topologies similar to those inferred from the 16S rRNA gene sequence alone. The results are compared to previously proposed phylogenies of Aphidiinae based on morphological and molecular characters.  相似文献

We investigated higher-level phylogenetic relationships within the genus Halictus based on parsimony and maximum likelihood (ML) analysis of elongation factor-1α DNA sequence data. Our data set includes 41 OTUs representing 35 species of halictine bees from a diverse sample of outgroup genera and from the three widely recognized subgenera of Halictus (Halictus s.s., Seladonia, and Vestitohalictus). We analyzed 1513 total aligned nucleotide sites spanning three exons and two introns. Equal-weights parsimony analysis of the overall data set yielded 144 equally parsimonious trees. Major conclusions supported in this analysis (and in all subsequent analyses) included the following: (1) Thrincohalictus is the sister group to Halictus s.l., (2) Halictus s.l. is monophyletic, (3) Vestitohalictus renders Seladonia paraphyletic but together Seladonia + Vestitohalictus is monophyletic, (4) Michener's Groups 1 and 3 are monophyletic, and (5) Michener's Group 1 renders Group 2 paraphyletic. In order to resolve basal relationships within Halictus we applied various weighting schemes under parsimony (successive approximations character weighting and implied weights) and employed ML under 17 models of sequence evolution. Weighted parsimony yielded conflicting results but, in general, supported the hypothesis that Seladonia + Vestitohalictus is sister to Michener's Group 3 and renders Halictus s.s. paraphyletic. ML analyses using the GTR model with site-specific rates supported an alternative hypothesis: Seladonia + Vestitohalictus is sister to Halictus s.s. We mapped social behavior onto trees obtained under ML and parsimony in order to reconstruct the likely historical pattern of social evolution. Our results are unambiguous: the ancestral state for the genus Halictus is eusociality. Reversal to solitary behavior has occurred at least four times among the species included in our analysis.  相似文献

Cotton leaf curl disease (CLCuD), caused by cotton leaf curl Burewala virus (CLCuBV), has emerged as a major threat to cotton production in Pakistan. Resistance to CLCuBV was evaluated in cultivated and wild cotton genotypes representing six Gossypium species by visual symptom scoring and virus assessment using PCR tests. Considerable variation in responses was observed when using whitefly and graft transmission to inoculate Gossypium genotypes with CLCuBV in field and greenhouse experiments. Under field evaluation, all cultivated genotypes of Gossypium hirsutum and three genotypes of G. barbadense were susceptible. Eleven genotypes that represented six wild and cultivated Gossypium species were considered to be highly resistant as they were free from infection. Similar results were obtained when these genotypes were tested using whitefly transmission. To verify these findings, 132 cultivated and wild genotypes were tested by graft inoculation. All G. hirsutum genotypes (116 cultivated, 1 wild, 1 transgenic Coker-312 and 1 non-transgenic Coker-312), three G. barbadense genotypes and one G. thurberi genotype were highly susceptible and exhibited symptoms 9–12 days after grafting. Four genotypes of G. arboreum and one genotype of G. anomalum did not express symptoms but had a detectable level of virus. One genotype of G. herbaceum and three wild genotypes of G. hirsutum showed mild symptoms (severity indexes of 1–2) and exhibited delayed disease development. These genotypes were classified as moderately resistant to resistant. Resistant genotypes that were identified in this study will be useful sources for exploitation of breeding programmes aimed at developing CLCuBV-resistant varieties and increasing genetic diversity.  相似文献

The phylogeny of Phytosciara Frey, Prosciara Frey, Dolichosciara Tuomikoski (together forming Phytosciara sensu Tuomikoski), Lobosciara Steffan and Bradysia Winnertz was studied by parsimony analysis using the computer programs Pee‐Wee and NONA. The analysis was based on sixty‐four morphological characters from adult males, coded for thirty‐nine ingroup and two outgroup terminals. Three cladograms of the maximum fit (Pee‐Wee) and one of the minimum length (NONA) were obtained, some of them with polytomies. Many characters showed much homoplasy in the cladograms. The solution by the fittest cladograms was chosen as the main hypothesis of the phylogeny. Of the groups studied, only Lobosciara appeared monophyletic. The relationships of the taxa in their now revised monophyletic sense are: Dolichosciara + (Lobosciara + ((‘Prosciara’ fuscina group + ‘P’. vulcanata) + (‘P’. mima group + ((‘P’. perfida + (Bradysia + Phytosciara)) + Prosciara)))). Phytosciara Frey, Prosciara, Dolichosciara and Lobosciara in their revised concepts are regarded as genera.  相似文献

Freshwater sponges include six extant families which belong to the suborder Spongillina (Porifera). The taxonomy of freshwater sponges is problematic and their phylogeny and evolution are not well understood. Sequences of the ribosomal internal transcribed spacers (ITS1 and ITS2) of 11 species from the family Lubomirskiidae, 13 species from the family Spongillidae, and 1 species from the family Potamolepidae were obtained to study the phylogenetic relationships between endemic and cosmopolitan freshwater sponges and the evolution of sponges in Lake Baikal. The present study is the first one where ITS1 sequences were successfully aligned using verified secondary structure models and, in combination with ITS2, used to infer relationships between the freshwater sponges. Phylogenetic trees inferred using maximum likelihood, neighbor-joining, and parsimony methods and Bayesian inference revealed that the endemic family Lubomirskiidae was monophyletic. Our results do not support the monophyly of Spongillidae because Lubomirskiidae formed a robust clade with E. muelleri, and Trochospongilla latouchiana formed a robust clade with the outgroup Echinospongilla brichardi (Potamolepidae). Within the cosmopolitan family Spongillidae the genera Radiospongilla and Eunapius were found to be monophyletic, while Ephydatia muelleri was basal to the family Lubomirskiidae. The genetic distances between Lubomirskiidae species being much lower than those between Spongillidae species are indicative of their relatively recent radiation from a common ancestor. These results indicated that rDNA spacers sequences can be useful in the study of phylogenetic relationships of and the identification of species of freshwater sponges.  相似文献

Abstract. Myrmecia Fabricius is revised at species-group level. Nine groups are recognized: those of M.aberrans, M.cephalotes, M.gulosa, M.mandibularis, M.nigrocincta, M.picta, M.pilosula, M.tepperi and M. urens. A key to the species groups is provided, and worker diagnoses, illustrations and species lists are given for each. Eight groups are constituted much as in the previous classification of John Clark, but defined using new characters. Phylogenetic relationships are investigated, with six cladograms derived from four sets of data, each with a different outgroup. The most plausible cladograms suggest that: (1) the aberrans group is the sister group to the others; (2) the pilosula, tepperi and mandibularis groups constitute a monophyletic assemblage, though monophyly of the first two is not confirmed; (3) the gulosa, nigrocincta, urens and picta groups constitute a monophyletic assemblage, though monophyly of the picta group is not confirmed; (4) the phylogenetic position of the cephalotes group is unclear.  相似文献

A phylogeny for seventy-two species of Australian thrips in the subfamily Phlaeothripinae, based on cladistic analysis of forty morphological adult characters, is presented. We use this phylogeny to infer the evolutionary history of host-plant affiliations, gall induction and other types of domicile use, and different forms of social behaviour. Maximum parsimony analysis yielded forty-eight cladograms of length 316, and the strict consensus of these cladograms was well resolved. This phylogeny indicated that: (1) associations of thrips with their host plants tend to be evolutionarily conservative, with monophyletic groups of thrips on the host-plant genera Acacia, Casuarina and Geijera, (2) galling has evolved multiple times, on different host plants, (3) transitions in domicile use include changes between galling and living in holes or old galls, between living in glued phyllodes and living in old galls, and between leaf-feeding and galling, and (4) in three of five cases, inquiline lineages were not closely related to their host lineages and the evolution of inquilinism apparently involved a host-plant shift. However, in two cases, inquilines were very closely related to their gall-inducing hosts. Eusocial behaviour (involving soldier castes) has evolved in different lineages from those that exhibit communal behaviour (cooperation in building or defending domiciles), suggesting a lack of direct transition between the two social systems. This phylogeny serves as a framework for future molecular systematic studies, and future comparative analysis of ecology and behaviour in the Phlaeothripinae.  相似文献

The Botiinae have traditionally represented a subfamily of the Cobitidae. At present, the classification and phylogenetic relationships of the Botiinae are controversial. To address systematic and phylogenetic questions concerning this group, we sequenced the complete cytochrome b gene from 34 samples, of which 24 represented 13 species of the East Asian botiine fishes, while the other 10 were non-botiine loach species. For the 1140 bp sequences determined, 494 sites were variable ones, of which 424 were parsimony informative. With Myxocyprinus asiaticus as an outgroup, molecular phylogenetic trees were constructed using the neighbor-joining, maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood and Bayesian methods. All molecular phylogenetic trees revealed that botiine fishes form a monophyletic group and are distantly related to other loaches, suggesting that the Botiinae should be placed in their own family. Within the Botiinae, there are three genera; Botia, Parabotia, andLeptobotia, each genus forming a monophyletic group, with the genus Botia as the most ancestral split. Our molecular results are in agreement with morphological analyses of botiines, suggesting that Botia is the ancestral genus, while Leptobotia and Parabotia were resolved as more derived sister groups.  相似文献

Hypotheses of relationship among genera of Percidae have been conflicting. Based on different phylogenetic premises, the evolution of small benthic forms in Percidae has been interpreted as resulting from either convergence or common ancestry. In order to assess various phylogenetic hypotheses of Percidae we collected complete sequences (1140 bp) of mitochondrially encoded cytochromebfor 21 species of percids. Seven species representing four additional families of Perciformes were used as outgroups. Maximum parsimony and minimum evolution analyses both recovered single shortest trees, and the results of these analyses were generally congruent with one another. All analyses consistently recovered three monophyletic groups in Percidae: Etheostomatinae (Ammocrypta, Crystallaria, Etheostoma, andPercina), Percinae (PercaandGymnocephalus), and Luciopercinae (Stizostedion, Zingel, andRomanichthys). As a result of this analysis we present a revised classification of Percidae and discuss the phylogenetic evidence for the independent evolution of small benthic species within Etheostomatinae and Luciopercinae.  相似文献

In order to identify the zoogeographic origin of shrews (genusCrocidura) living on the oceanic island of Sulawesi, 15 taxa from Southeast Asia and 1 from Europe were examined for sequence variation in a segment (617 bp) of the mitochondrial cytochromebgene. The null hypothesis of a monophyletic origin of all Sulawesian shrews was investigated by a phylogenetic reconstruction using maximum parsimony. According to a parametric bootstrap which simulated sequence evolution for these taxa, the null hypothesis could be rejected as highly unlikely (P < 0.01). Therefore, the molecular phylogeny strongly suggests that overwater colonization of Sulawesi by shrews succeeded on at least two occasions. The first, relatively ancient wave of colonizers radiated and gave rise to a surprizingly diverse assemblage of at least five species which now coexist in perfect sympatry on Sulawesi. The second wave, of more recent origin, gave rise toCrocidura nigripes,a species which retained close genetic affinities with other Malay shrews.  相似文献

We surveyed exemplars from all 12 infrageneric taxa ofRibes (Grossulariaceae) for restriction site variation in two cpDNA regions, fromrbcL toaccD and fromrpoC1 torpoC2, in order to develop an explicit phylogenetic hypothesis and to assess the validity of infrageneric classifications. Maximum parsimony analysis resolves sect.Ribes (red currants), sect.Berisia (European alpine currants), sect.Symphocalyx (golden currants), sect.Grossularia plus sect.Grossularioides (true gooseberries and spiny currants), andHesperia, Lobbia, and probably sect.Robsonia (west North American gooseberries) as well-supported monophyletic groups. The clade of sectionsGrossularioides andGrossularia is unexpected, and suggests that subgenusGrossularia is not monophyletic. Alternatively, sect.Grossularioides may have acquired its cpDNA via hybridization and introgression. SectionsCoreosma (black currants) andHeritiera (dwarf currants) are apparently non monophyletic. Relationships among the well-supported lineages and the other sampled taxa remain unresolved. Maximum likelihood analysis is consistent with the parsimony results.  相似文献

Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV) is a pathogenic strain of avian paramyxovirus (aPMV-1) that is among the most serious of disease threats to the poultry industry worldwide. Viral diversity is high in aPMV-1; eight genotypes are recognized based on phylogenetic reconstruction of gene sequences. Modified live vaccines have been developed to decrease the economic losses caused by this virus. Vaccines derived from avirulent genotype II strains were developed in the 1950s and are in use globally, whereas Australian strains belonging to genotype I were developed as vaccines in the 1970s and are used mainly in Asia. In this study, we evaluated the consequences of attenuated live virus vaccination on the evolution of aPMV-1 genotypes. There was phylogenetic incongruence among trees based on individual genes and complete coding region of 54 full length aPMV-1 genomes, suggesting that recombinant sequences were present in the data set. Subsequently, five recombinant genomes were identified, four of which contained sequences from either genotype I or II. The population history of vaccine-related genotype II strains was distinct from other aPMV-1 genotypes; genotype II emerged in the late 19th century and is evolving more slowly than other genotypes, which emerged in the 1960s. Despite vaccination efforts, genotype II viruses have experienced constant population growth to the present. In contrast, other contemporary genotypes showed population declines in the late 1990s. Additionally, genotype I and II viruses, which are circulating in the presence of homotypic vaccine pressure, have unique selection profiles compared to nonvaccine-related strains. Collectively, these data show that vaccination with live attenuated viruses has changed the evolution of aPMV-1 by maintaining a large effective population size of a vaccine-related genotype, allowing for coinfection and recombination of vaccine and wild type strains, and by applying unique selective pressures on viral glycoproteins.  相似文献

All methods used in historical biogeographical analysis aim to obtain resolved area cladograms that represent historical relationships among areas in which monophyletic groups of taxa are distributed. When neither widespread nor sympatric taxa are present in the distribution of a monophyletic group, all methods obtain the same resolved area cladogram that conforms to a simple vicariance scenario. In most cases, however, the distribution of monophyletic groups of taxa is not that simple. A priori and a posteriori methods of historical biogeography differ in the way in which they deal with widespread and sympatric taxa. A posteriori methods are empirically superior to a priori methods, as they provide a more parsimonious accounting of the input data, do not eliminate or modify input data, and do not suffer from internal inconsistencies in implementation. When factual errors are corrected, the exemplar presented by M.C. Ebach & C.J. Humphries (Journal of Biogeography, 2002, 29 , 427) purporting to show inconsistencies in implementation by a posteriori methods actually corroborates the opposite. The rationale for preferring a priori methods thus corresponds to ontological rather than to epistemological considerations. We herein identify two different research programmes, cladistic biogeography (associated with a priori methods) and phylogenetic biogeography (associated with a posteriori methods). The aim of cladistic biogeography is to fit all elements of all taxon–area cladograms to a single set of area relationships, maintaining historical singularity of areas. The aim of phylogenetic biogeography is to document, most parsimoniously, the geographical context of speciation events. The recent contribution by M.C. Ebach & C.J. Humphries (Journal of Biogeography, 2002, 29 , 427) makes it clear that cladistic biogeography using a priori methods is an inductivist/verificationist research programme, whereas phylogenetic biogeography is hypothetico‐deductivist/falsificationist. Cladistic biogeography can become hypothetic‐deductive by using a posteriori methods of analysis.  相似文献

Archaeognatha (Machilida plus †Monura), with ~450 extant species worldwide, represent a key lineage for the understanding of insect evolution. In a recently published phylogenetic analysis on Archaeognatha, based on a total-evidence approach, a Machilidae key fossil (Gigamachilis triassicus) from the Middle Triassic Lagerstätte of Monte San Giorgio and a representative of †Monura (Dasyleptus triassicus) from the same fossiliferous site, were not considered. In the present study, the phylogenetic analyses performed by Zhang et al. (2018) using maximum parsimony and Bayesian inference were repeated including these two key taxa; in addition, Tricholepidion gertschi and Lepisma saccharina were included as representatives of Zygentoma. In the total-evidence Bayesian analysis, †Monura was found to be paraphyletic, whereas in the maximum parsimony analysis, performed only on morphological characters, they were monophyletic. Moreover, the attribution of G. triassicus to Machilidae is now confirmed by these analyses, indicating that members of the extant group of Machilidae were already present in the Middle Triassic, at least ~100 Myr before the previous estimate.  相似文献

Phylogenetic relationships in Daltoniaceae (~200 species in 14 genera) are inferred from nucleotide sequences from five genes, representing all genomic compartments, using parsimony, likelihood and Bayesian methods. Alternative classifications for Daltoniaceae have favoured traits from either sporophytes or gametophytes; phylogenetic transitions in gametophytic leaf limbidia and sporophytic exostome ornamentation were evaluated using ancestral state reconstruction to assess the levels of conflict between these generations. Elimbate leaves and the cross‐striate exostome are reconstructed as plesiomorphic states. Limbate leaves and papillose exostomes evolved at least two and six times, respectively, without reversals. The evolution of leaf limbidia is relatively conserved, but exostome ornamentation is highly homoplasious, indicating that superficial similarity in peristomes gives unreliable approximations of phylogenetic relatedness. Our phylogenetic analyses show that Achrophyllum and Calyptrochaeta are reciprocally monophyletic. Within core Daltoniaceae, relationships among taxa with elimbate leaves are generally well understood. However, taxa with limbate leaves form a monophyletic group, but resolved subclades correspond to biogeographical entities, rather than to traditional concepts of genera. Daltonia (~21 species), Distichophyllum (~100 species) and Leskeodon (~20 species) are polyphyletic. Seven nomenclatural changes are proposed here. As the current taxonomy of Daltoniaceae lacks phylogenetic consistency, critical generic revisions are needed. © 2012 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2012, ?? , ??–??.  相似文献

The family Cyprinidae is widely distributed in East Asia, and has the important phylogenetic significance in the fish evolution. In this study, the 5′ end partial sequences (containing exon 1, exon 2 and indel 1) of S6K1 gene were obtained from 30 representative species in Cyprinidae and outgroup using PCR amplification and sequencing. The phylogenetic relationships of Cyprinidae were reconstructed with neighbor joining (NJ), maximum parsimony (MP), maximum likelihood (ML), and Bayesian methods. Myxocyprinus asiaticus (Catostomidae) was assigned to the outgroup taxon. Similar phylogenetic relationships within the family Cyprinidae were achieved with the four analyses. Leuciscini and Barbini were monophyletic lineages respectively with the high nodal supports. Leuciscini comprises Hypophthalmichthyinae, Xenocyprinae, Cultrinae, Gobioninae, Acheilognathinae and East Asian species of Leuciscinae and Danioninae. Monophyly of East Asian clade was supported with high nodal support. Barbini comprises Schizothoracinae, Barbinae, Cyprininae and Labeoninae. The monophyletic lineage consisting of Danio rerio, D. myersi, and Rasbora trilineata was basal in the tree. In addition, the large fragment indels in intron 1 were analyzed to improve the understanding of Cyprinidae relationships. The results showed that the large fragment indels were correlated with the relations among species. Some conserved regions in intron 1 were thought to be involved in the functional regulation. However, no correlation was found between sequence variations and species characteristic size.  相似文献

We examined temporal aspects of phylogenetic relationships among 5 murid rodent subfamilies and 11 arvicoline genera based on DNA sequences of the cytochrome b gene (n = 92) and ND4 gene (n = 17). We found monophyly for Muridae but a polytomy among murid subfamilies. Arvicolinae was monophyletic, but most genera within this subfamily arose from a polytomy. Microtus was monophyletic, but within the genus, species arose rapidly. This pattern of nested pulses (polytomies) was recovered across parsimony, distance, and likelihood methods and indicates that accumulation of taxonomic diversity in murids was sporadic, rather than gradual. Arvicolines appeared in the Late Miocene and diversified later, between 3 and 5 million years ago. A relatively high rate of sequence evolution (i.e., 2.3% in third-position transversions per million years) helps reconcile the diversification of fossils and mtDNA lineages.  相似文献

The phylogenetic relationships of the tribe Rhingiini and the genus Cheilosia (Diptera, Syrphidae) were investigated using morphological and molecular characters. The genus Cheilosia is one of the most diverse lineages of hoverflies (Syrphidae). The mitochondrial protein coding gene cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI), and the D2‐3 region of the nuclear 28S rRNA gene were chosen for sequencing, and morphological characters were scored for both adults and immature stages. The combined dataset included 56 ingroup taxa. The datasets were analyzed separately and in conjunction, using both static and dynamic alignment under the parsimony criterion. The aim of the study was to assess the phylogenetic relationships of the tribe Rhingiini, and to explore if the subgenera of Cheilosia were supported as monophyletic clades. Results showed that the monophyly of subtribes of Rhingiini remained ambiguous, especially due to unstable phylogenetic placements of the genera Portevinia and Rhingia. We recovered most subgenera of Cheilosia as monophyletic clades. Dynamic alignment, using the optimization alignment program POY, always recovered more parsimonious topologies under all parameter weighting schemes, than did parsimony analyses using static alignment and analyzed with NONA.  相似文献
