Five stocks of winter wheat were resistant to S. avenae in glasshouse screening tests, where resistance was more evident in older than younger plants but different types of resistance were not separated. Antibiosis was measured from the growth and reproduction of caged individual aphids and antixenosis from the settling of adult aphids on detached leaf portions. Cvs Bounty, Rapier and Virtue were resistant due to antibiosis, whilst cv. Kador and line A4501-4E showed antixenosis. These and other differences indicated that these five wheat stocks probably include at least four distinct sources of resistance to S. avenae. The existence of different types of resistance could account for variability in the results of screening tests.  相似文献

The trends in population density of Sitobion avenae in wheat fields were analysed for a total of 32 sites over the period 1975 to 1983 in eastern England and the Netherlands. The peak population density on each field was positively correlated with the population densities at the end of ear emergence, mid-anthesis and the end of anthesis. It was also positively correlated with the observed rates of increase of the aphids on the crop immediately before these stages. Both parameters were incorporated in multiple regressions to forecast peak population density, and data from a further nine populations monitored in 1984 was used to validate the model. The accuracy of these forecasts, based on two counts on the crop, increased from ear emergence to the end of anthesis, the forecast at mid-anthesis of peak density being much more accurate than any other published method.  相似文献

A damage model was used to take into account the effect on winter wheat yield of the size, duration and timing of Sitobion avenae infestation in summer, and the influence of insecticide applications. It was validated as far as possible using available data, and appeared to be sufficiently accurate to be useful. The model was applied to a total of 32 winter wheat fields over the period 1975 to 1983 in eastern England and the Netherlands, to obtain estimates of yield losses associated with not applying insecticides at the end of ear emergence (G.S. 59), mid-anthesis (G.S. 65) or the end of anthesis (G.S. 69). These estimates of future yield losses were related in multiple regressions to the number of S. avenae per tiller at the time the insecticide was applied, and the rate of population increase over the previous few days. Basing the decision about whether to apply insecticide on forecasts from the multiple regression equations appeared to be slightly more profitable than prophylactic spraying when the chemical cost alone was considered, but substantially more profitable when the application cost and wheeling loss were also taken into account. The strategy minimising losses involved forecasts at all three crop growth stages. It was validated using a further 21 fields studied in 1984 and 1985, and gave better results than the EPIPRE system, which over-estimated the number of fields requiring spraying, and the economic threshold of George & Gair (1979), which under-estimated the number requiring spraying. However, the accuracy of the damage model needs to be checked against measured yield losses in order to establish the success of the multiple regression strategy conclusively.  相似文献

The effects of DIMBOA in cultivars of wheat on aphid antibiosis and tolerance to the insecticide deltamethrin were investigated for the aphid Sitobion auenae. Over 48 hours the mean relative growth rate differed significantly between nymphs of S. auenae reared on wheat cultivars containing different levels of DIMBOA. Nymphs on the resistant cv. Altar showed a significantly greater susceptibility to deltamethrin, with nearly a three-fold increase in the relative toxicity of deltamethrin, compared with the susceptible cv. Dollarbird. The LC50, adjusted for weight, was reduced by 91% for nymphs reared on the high DIMBOA cultivar. The potential for the enhancement of predation under a reduced pesticide régime is discussed in relation to this research.  相似文献

Effective pest monitoring programmes are needed for providing reliable advice on when pest populations require active management. We studied whether suction‐trap catches of the grain aphid Sitobion avenae during the period 1989–2009 can be used to predict field infestations of this aphid in Swedish winter wheat fields. We found that suction‐trap catches of S. avenae until the time of crop heading (GS51) were significantly related to both number of aphids per tiller (R2 = 0.69 at GS 59 and R2 = 0.27 at GS 69) and proportion of fields with infestations above economic threshold (R2 = 0.49 at GS 59 and R2 = 0.40 at GS 69). This effect was consistent across Swedish regions and years. This information could be used by advisory services and farmers to decide whether field inspection to estimate the profitability of insecticide treatment at heading is needed. To improve the predictive ability further, suction‐trap catches could be combined with weather data and information about biological control potential in different landscapes.  相似文献

The spatial and temporal distribution of the grain aphid Sitobion avenae F. (Homoptera: Aphididae) was studied within a field of winter wheat during the summer of 1996. Sampling was done using four nested grids comprising 133 locations. Analysis by Taylor's power law gave results typical for insect populations. Analysis by SADIE (Spatial Analysis by Distance Indices) showed spatial pattern due to edge effects and sampling scale, and positive but mild spatial association, although spatial patterns were ephemeral. Reasons for these findings and the implications for integrated crop management are discussed.  相似文献

Six winter wheat cultivars with differing degrees of resistance to the grain aphid, Sitobion avenae (F.), were studied under field conditions. Resistance was measured in terms of non-preference and antibiosis on plants at seven growth stages. The varieties Saga and Grana were most resistant in terms of both non-preference and antibiosis to S. avenae at all growth stages examined. The varieties Liwilla and Dana were relatively susceptible to aphid attack. The number of aphids was directly proportional to the total content of free and essential amino acids. The level of resistance showed a similar, but not identical, relationship with the observed concentration of soluble proteins. A higher degree of cultivar resistance was associated with a higher value on a toxicity index, which is the ratio between the free-phenols and free-amino acids content. Obtained results suggest that the resistance of winter wheat cultivars to the grain aphid was based mainly on the mechanism of antibiosis.
Résumé Six cultivars de blé d'hiver, présentant différents degrés de résistance au puceron des grains, S. avenae, ont été étudiés dans la nature. La résistance a été évaluée en fonction de l'antibiose et de l'absence de préférence de plantes à 7 stades de développement. Les variétés Saga et Grana ont été les plus résistantes, suivant ces deux critères, pour tous les stades de puceron étudiés. Les variétés Liwilla et Dana ont été relativement sensibles. Les effectifs de pucerons étaient proportionnels à la teneur totale en acides aminés libres essentiels. Les concentrations en protéines solubles présentent une relation de même type, mais pas identique, avec le niveau de résistance. Un haut degré de résistance a été associé à une valeur élevée de l'indice de toxicité, rapport entre les phénols libres et la teneur en acides aminés libres. Ces résultats suggèrent une résistance des cultivars de blé d'hiver à S. avenae liée principalement aux mécanismes d'antibiose.

Glasshouse assessments of resistance to S. avenae in 29 entries of wheat and two of rye were made by releasing half-grown aphids on randomised plants at the stem extension phase of growth. Wheat cvs Kador, Amigo, Highbury and Lutescens 1377 were resistant and cvs Sentry and Talavera de Bellevue partially resistant. Cv. Klein Acero, a breeding line TB68/6/10 and Lerma Rojo selections 197 to 200 were highly susceptible to S. avenae although the latter are moderately resistant to greenbug (Schizaphis graminum) (Starks & Merkle, 1977). The rye cultivars were susceptible to 5. avenae and no cultivar was found to be resistant to Metopolophium dirhodum. Clonal stocks of S. avenae, differing in colour, varied in their ability to form large populations on susceptible cultivars, and hence in their differentiation of susceptible from resistant wheat. No clone was detected with specific ability to attack the resistant cvs Kador and Amigo.  相似文献

1 The effect of reducing the growth of winter wheat on population size and development of the grain aphid Sitobion avenae was studied. 2 Automatic, mobile, crop shading devices, which reduced radiation comparable to levels found on a cloudy day, whilst minimizing other climatic changes, were used to reduce crop growth. Shading was applied between either GS 31 and 39 (1st node detectable → flag leaf ligule just visible) or GS 39 and 55 (flag leaf just visible → 50% of inflorescence emerged). 3 Sitobion avenae populations were initiated at GS 55 and highest populations were subsequently observed on plants shaded between GS 31 and 39. 4 Individual aphids confined within clip cages were observed to measure development from birth to adult moult, adult lifespan and fecundity. Results indicated that adult lifespan was shortest on plants shaded between GS31 and 39, whilst there were no differences in development time or fecundity. 5 Possible explanations for these observations are discussed.  相似文献

Suction trap catches for the period 1969 to 1984 were used to develop a forecasting system for M. dirhodum. This was achieved by using the strong relationships that exist between: a) suction trap catches of Metopolophium dirhodum at Broom's Barn and populations of the aphid in fields near Norwich, and b) winter and spring temperatures and the time when the crop became unsuitable for this aphid. This forecasting system was tested in 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1988 and successfully forecast early in the season that it would not be necessary to apply aphicides in 1987 and 1988. The use of this forecasting system would have correctly indicated that aphicide application against this aphid was unnecessary in 9 out of the 16 seasons from 1969 to 1984.  相似文献

Sitobion avenae is the most abundant aphid that infests the ears of winter wheat in central Europe. Control of this pest will benefit from prediction of its maximum abundances on ears. We attempted to predict the maximum numbers of this species infesting the ears using earlier counts of this species in ears and on leaves using data collected in the Czech Republic in 2002–2014. The numbers of aphids on particular leaves and the ears were recorded at weekly intervals. The maximum numbers infesting the ears were significantly related to aphid counts on the ears made 1 week, 2 weeks and even 3 weeks before the peak. A regression based only on plots where there were aphids (non‐zero aphid counts) recorded 3 weeks prior to the peak resulted in a critical number of ≥0.44 aphids/ear, which if exceeded resulted in a harmful maximum abundance of ≥5 aphids/ear at the peak. We also regressed maximum numbers infesting ears on numbers of S. avenae on leaves recorded 1, 2 and 3 weeks after earing, which all resulted in reliable predictions. Regression of maximum abundance on non‐zero aphid counts on the leaves in week 3 after earing revealed a critical number of ≥0.59 aphids/tiller. Zero aphid counts resulted in only 3% of cases of a harmful maximum abundance in ears. Using records of the numbers on flag leaves, which make up 58% of the S. avenae population present on the foliage, also provided reliable predictions of maximum abundance in ears. Predicting maximum numbers of aphids from earlier records of the numbers of aphids on leaves or ears is thus possible. The prediction may be further improved by increasing the precision with which the numbers of aphids initially infesting the crop are estimated.  相似文献

The economics of control of grain aphid (Sitobion avenae) and rose-grain aphid (Metopolophium dirhodum) were investigated in a series of experiments carried out across England in 1988 and 1989. Sprays of pirimicarb or dimethoate were applied at three growth stages and yield effects measured. Aphid infestations were determined by a range of different methods, to evaluate the value of each for decision making. Aphids overwintered in crops in mild conditions in both seasons, resulting in early population build-up and decline in many cases. Aphicide sprays applied during the booting stage increased average yields by 0.26 t/ha. Profitability of the treatment strategies considered was not greatly enhanced by selective spray application related to aphid assessment at this stage. Delaying decision making to the flowering or grain-filling stages resulted in reduced profitability. A poor correlation between aphid numbers and crop yield response to sprays was found. This was shown to be due to differences in subsequent aphid population development and in aphicide efficacy. Grain quality was affected only by high aphid infestations which caused large yield reductions.  相似文献

于2008-2010年2个生长季在山东农业大学试验农场,以烟农21和藁城8901为材料,研究了不同种植密度下喷施多效唑对冬小麦基部茎秆形态特征、抗折力和抗倒指数及产量的影响.结果表明:藁城8901的抗倒伏能力高于烟农21,但籽粒产量低.与低密度(基本苗为180×104株·hm-2)条件相比,同一品种高密度(基本苗为240×104株·hm-2)使茎秆抗折力和抗倒指数下降,尤以烟农21表现更为明显.喷施多效唑可明显降低株高和基部节间长度,显著提高茎秆抗折力和抗倒伏指数,增强其抗倒伏能力,提高单位面积穗数和产量.相关分析表明,茎秆抗倒伏指数与基部第2节间长度、基部(1+2)节间长度占节间总长的比例和表观倒伏率均呈显著负相关.因此,采用合理的种植密度并结合喷施多效唑,能够提高小麦的抗倒伏能力和产量,可作为半湿润地区小麦高产栽培的重要技术措施.  相似文献

From 10°C to 25°C Sitobion avenae reared on wheat developed faster, had a higher mean relative growth rate and a higher intrinsic rate of increase on ears than on the flag leaves. At temperatures above 25°C there is a marked decline in the performance of the aphid. The intrinsic rate of increase is strongly correlated with the mean relative growth rate during development for both aphids reared on ears and flag leaves from 10°C to 25°C.  相似文献

The effect of greenbug, Schizaphis graminum (Rondani), feeding on the yield of four winter wheat cultivars commonly grown in Oklahoma was studied. Cultivars tested were 'Karl', a recent derivative 'Karl-92', and '2163', all greenbug-susceptible cultivars; and 'TAM-110', a cultivar with resistance to biotype E greenbugs. The objectives were to determine the effect of different greenbug densities during fall and spring on yield of winter wheat, and to develop mathematical models to quantify the effect of greenbugs on yield loss. The intensity of greenbug infestations achieved in plots by artificial infestation varied among years and growing seasons within a year, but was generally sufficient to cause a reduction in yield. Among yield components, the number of heads per square meter and the number of seeds per head were frequently negatively correlated with the accumulated number of greenbug-days per tiller. Seed weight was rarely affected by greenbug infestation. A regression model estimated yield loss for greenbug-susceptible cultivars at 0.51 kg/ha loss of yield per greenbug-day in years with near normal precipitation, and a loss of 1.17 kg/ha under severe drought conditions. The susceptible winter wheat cultivars exhibited similar yield loss in relation to the intensity of greenbug infestation, as indicated by a common slope parameter in the regression model. Results suggest that the model is robust for predicting yield loss for susceptible cultivars.  相似文献

Sitobion avenae was introduced into areas within a field of winter wheat in Norfolk in mid-May 1985, when the indigenous population was negligible. Aphid numbers in these areas increased for the first 3 wk and declined for the next 4. A second S. avenue introduction into the same areas and into previously uninfested areas was carried out 5 wk after the first introduction, when the crop was at ear emergence complete (G.S. 59). This increased aphid numbers in the previously uninfested areas, but numbers in the previously infested areas continued to decline to below the level in control areas during the subsequent 2 wk. Populations in all areas then increased rapidly to a maximum, followed by a rapid final decline. Monitoring of the aphid and natural enemy populations, and caging aphids onto the crop, revealed that the principal cause of the population decline around G.S. 59 was predation by syrphids. The relevance of these findings to the problem of forecasting S. avenae outbreaks is discussed, and a general explanation for cereal aphid outbreaks is put forward.  相似文献
