This article describes a 1.5-year-old female, Greek Hound dog, weighing 16 kg, presented with a type III vaginal prolapse which occurred during the last third of pregnancy. Trans-abdominal ultrasonography revealed four live foetuses in the uterine horns. The animal was hospitalized and 4 days later gave birth without any interference. Three days later, resection of the prolapsed tissue was performed and the bitch recovered completely. Recurrence of a type I vaginal prolapse was observed 4 months later, during subsequent oestrus. This case is unusual because, although vaginal fold prolapse is mainly seen during proestrus/oestrus or during parturition, it was first noticed 47 days after mating and 13 days before parturition. Furthermore, even though the prolapse of vaginal fold was of type III and of considerable size, parturition proceeded normally. Finally, even though resection of the prolapsed tissue was performed 3 days after parturition, recurrence of vaginal fold oedema (type I) was observed in the subsequent oestrus.  相似文献

Prolapse of the right nongravid horn of the uterus in a cow with a 7 1 2 - mo pregnancy is reported. The condition occurred 4 d after a vagino-cervical prolapse was reduced and fixed by Minchev's technique. The everted uterine horn together with its corresponding ovary became gangrenous and detached due to eschemic necrosis resulting from the constriction of the partially closed cervix. The cow delivered a healthy bull calf without any complications 6 wk after the incidence. Rectal examination of the cow 3 mo later showed completion of involution, uterus unicornis with its left ovary and a mature corpus luteum. The absence of the right ovary and the right uterine horn did not seem to interfere with the normal estrous cycle.  相似文献

The right uterine horn of alpacas causes luteolysis in the right ovary, whereas the left horn causes luteolysis in both ovaries. Female reproductive tracts were studied in 32 adult llamas, 12 adult alpacas, and 21 mid-gestation female fetuses to determine if there is a dichotomy in the vascular anatomy between the 2 sides. Adult tracts were studied by either injection of colored latex into the veins and arteries followed by tissue clearing or by injection of colored fluids during transillumination. Fetal uteri were studied by transillumination. The angioarchitecture of the ovarian vascular pedicle was similar to that reported for ewes. There was no vessel comparable to the middle uterine artery, which is the largest uterine artery in the other farm species. A striking difference from the uterine vascular of other farm species was the presence of a major branch of the right uterine artery that crossed the cranial intercornual area to supply much of the left uterine horn. A corresponding major vein originated from the left horn, crossed the mid-line, and terminated as a branch of the right uterine vein. Thus, the vascular anatomy indicated that much venous blood from the left horn drained to the right side. This was confirmed by injection of colored fluid into a small venous branch at the tip of the left horn. The prominent cross-over vessels were observed in the fetal uteri, and the diameter of the left uterine fetal horn (6.7 +/- 0.6 mm) was greater (P < 0.001) than the diameter of the right horn (5.8 +/- 0.5 mm). The presence of a large cross-over vein traversing from the left horn to the right side is compatible with the hypothesis that the left horn can exert luteolytic control over the corpus luteum in the right ovary through a veno-arterial pathway. The area of veno-arterial transfer of the luteolysin from a vein containing blood from the left horn into an artery supplying the right ovary was not defined in this study. However, the results provide an anatomical basis for functional testing of the cross-over hypothesis and defining the area of venoarterial transfer in camelids.  相似文献

The involvement of the main uterine vein in the unilateral maintenance of CL was studied in bilaterally ovulating unilaterally pregnant ewes. Ewes were mated at estrus (Day 0) and bilaterally ovulating ewes were randomized into three groups at surgery on Day 5. In all ewes, the uterine horns were separated through the intercornual area and one was ligated and transected near the internal bifurcation to produce a nongravid horn. One group served as controls (five ewes). In the other two groups the main uterine vein on one side was surgically anastomosed (end to side) to the corresponding vein of the opposite side (gravid side to nongravid side in one group--three ewes, and nongravid side to gravid side in the other--three ewes). Necropsies were done on Day 20. Mean CL weight was less, (P less than .01) on the nongravid side in control ewes than on the gravid side in control ewes or for either side in the other two groups. There were no significant differences among mean weights of CL on the gravid side in control ewes and either side in the other two groups. The CL regressed when the ipsilateral uterine vein contained blood from only the nongravid horn whereas the CL was maintained when the ipsilateral uterine vein contained venous blood from a gravid horn, whether or not it also contained blood from a nongravid horn. Results indicate that the uterine venous effluent from a gravid uterine horn in sheep has a luteotropic effect on the ipsilateral CL.  相似文献

The aims were to determine resistance index (RI) and pulsatility index (PI) in the uterine arteries of cyclic and pregnant domestic cats comparing the left and right uterine horns, as well as the majority or minority uterine horns, based on fetus number per horn; to determine the presence or absence of an early diastolic notch (EDN) in the uterine artery of pregnant queens. Ten domestic cats were followed during one cycle and one pregnancy until 63rd days after mating. The estrous cycle length was 16 ± 9.57 days. The uterine horn with the highest number of fetuses (majority uterine horn - MUH) presented 2.0 ± 1.0 fetus and the lower (minority uterine horn - miUH) presentes 0.78 ± 0.67 fetus. There were no differences in indexes between uterine arteries during the cycles and pregnancies. The RI and PI of MUH were lower than miUH (P<0.05). Uterine artery of the MUH presented lower indexes than miUH during the acceptance period (P<0.05). On D14 of pregnancy, uterine artery presented reductions in both indexes for the miUH. On D56, the PI was reduced in the miUH. The indexes depended on the week of pregnancy. EDN was present on the uterine arteries of all cats until D35, but disappeared by D49. The blood flow varied according to the category of horn.  相似文献

目的观察大鼠左肾静脉不同程度狭窄所致左肾病变,为实验研究左肾静脉受压综合征肾组织淤血性损伤提供合适的动物模型。方法采用左肾静脉不全结扎的方法建立大鼠左肾静脉狭窄模型。将大鼠分为4组,假手术组和左肾静脉狭窄1.0mm模型组、0.7mm模型组、0.5mm模型组。术后7周处死动物。肾组织行病理学检查。肾皮质匀浆检测丙二醛(MDA)含量和超氧化物歧化酶(SOD)活性。结果病理学检查见1.0mm模型组未见明显病变,0.7mm和0.5mm模型组肾小球系膜区增生,小管、间质细胞浸润和纤维化形成,0.5mm模型组病变程度较重。各模型组左肾皮质丙二醛含量均显著增高,超氧化物歧化酶活性均显著降低,变化幅度随狭窄程度的增大而增大。结论大鼠左肾静脉狭窄程度为0.7mm时,各项观察指标与胡桃夹综合征(NCS)患者的临床实际情况最接近,而1.0mm和0.5mm相对偏轻和偏重,0.7mm模型组可以作为大鼠左肾静脉狭窄致左肾淤血实验研究的合适模型。  相似文献

Vaginal prolapse is the protrusion of edematous vaginal tissue into and through the opening of the vulva occurring during the pro-oestrus and oestrus stages of the sexual cycle. True vaginal prolapse may occur near parturition, as the concentration of serum progesterone declines and the concentration of serum oestrogen increases. In a bitch, true vaginal prolapse is a very rare condition. This case report describes an 18-month-old crossbreed bitch, weighing 40 kg presented with type III vaginal prolapse. The patient had developed vaginal prolapse after receiving oestrogen in order to oestrus induction. Subsequent to unsuccessful attempts for repositioning, ovariohysterectomy (OHE), circumferential excision of the prolapsed tissue and finally vulvoplasty were performed. There was no evidence of recurrence of the prolapse during 30 days after surgery. This case report describes type III vaginal prolapse as an unusual side effect of oestrus induction hormonal therapy in the bitch.  相似文献

Twenty-three cows and heifers were killed at known times during the oestrous cycle or during the first 35 days of pregnancy. Duplicate cytosol preparations were made from the endometrium of each uterine horn and both the binding-site concentration and the oestradiol level were determined for each sample. During the cycle, the oestradiol concentration was only 0-2 to 1-7% of the concentration of binding sites which varied considerably between Days 19 and 5 (47,665 +/- 7538 sites/cell, mean +/- S.E.M.) and Days 6 to 18 (7060 +/- 444 sites/cell). The concentration of binding sites remained low in pregnant animals (6689 +/- 492), although the oestradiol concentration was high about 20 days after insemination, resulting in almost 14% of the sites being occupied. Five inseminated animals in which no conceptus was found when they were slaughtered 19 to 22 days later had low concentrations of binding sites but two animals had high levels of oestradiol with 13% and 15%, respectively, of their cytoplasmic sites being occupied. It is suggested that these animals had recently lost their conceptuses. Two ovariectomized cows and one non-cyclic animal contained high concentrations of oestradiol-binding sites in the uterine cytoplasm. No significant difference was found between the uterine horn adjacent to the ovary with the CL and the contralateral horn in early pregnancy or during the luteal phase of the oestrous cycle. An animal killed 1 week after parturition contained fourfold more sites in the involuting horn than in the opposite horn. It is suggested that progesterone plays a major role in regulating oestrogen-induced replacement of cytoplasmic binding sites.  相似文献

In cattle, limited data are available regarding the sex ratio of the offspring in relation to the horn of gestation. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the sex ratio of fetuses gestated in the left and right uterine horns of cattle (Bos taurus, Bos indicus and crosses). The distribution of male and female fetuses in the left and right uterine horn was analyzed on gravid, abattoir-derived reproductive tracts and artificially inseminated crossbred cows. The total number of fetuses/calves and the sex of the fetuses/calves gestated in each uterine horn were used as the end point for side comparisons using the Glimmix Procedure. Of 64 gravid reproductive tracts evaluated, 29 (45.3%) pregnancies occurred in the left uterine horn, whereas 35 (54.7%) occurred in the right. The sex ratio (% males) of fetuses in the left uterine horn (37.9%) was significantly lower than the sex ratio detected in the right uterine horn (65.7%). Of 113 pregnancies evaluated in artificially inseminated heifers, 53 (46.9%) occurred in the left uterine horn, whereas 60 (53.1%) occurred in the right uterine horn. The sex ratio of calves gestated in the left uterine horn (35.8%) was significantly lower than the sex ratio of calves gestated in the right uterine horn (63.3%). In conclusion, in these experiments, a significantly greater proportion of males were gestated in the right uterine horn of cattle and a greater proportion of females in the left uterine horn. Further investigation is needed to determine the mechanisms underlying the observed disparity of the expected sex ratio within the uterine horns of cattle.  相似文献

The equine embryonic vesicle has been shown to be highly mobile prior to day 15, moving from one horn to the other many times per day. In Experiment 1, intrauterine mobility patterns of the vesicle were compared between barren and postpartum mares on days 12, 13, or 14, using an ultrasound instrument. Location of the vesicle (left horn, right horn, body) was determined every five minutes during six two-hour trials in each group. Averaged over all trials, the vesicle moved from one horn to the other 1.1 times per two-hour trial. There were no significant differences between barren and postpartum mares in the mean number of times the vesicle changed its location or in the amount of time the vesicle spent in the left versus right horn. In postpartum mares, the number of location changes and the time spent in a horn were not different between the formerly gravid horn and the nongravid horn. The reported frequent attachment of the vesicle to the formerly nongravid horn was not, therefore, attributable to a difference in the extent of mobility or the amount of time spent in the nongravid horn during the period of high intrauterine mobility. In Experiment 2, the rate of movement of the embryonic vesicle within the uterine body on days 12 through 14 was estimated to average 3.4 mm/min (range, 0-14 mm/min), based on fixed points of reference (cranial end of cervix, uterine cysts). Using time-lapse photography at one-minute intervals, a 14-day embryonic vesicle was monitored as it approached a cyst in the lumen of the uterine body. The vesicle encroached upon the cyst, forming an indentiation in the vesicle. It then moved over the top of the cyst to the other side and continued moving in the same direction.  相似文献

Concentrations of progesterone in uterine and arterial tissue and in uterine and jugular venous plasma were determined. Blood was collected on Days 4 and 9 postestrus from the jugular vein and the first and last venous branches draining each uterine cornu; uterine tissue and arteries were subsequently collected. Progesterone was greater (p less than 0.05) in the cranial third than in the middle or caudal thirds of the uterine horn adjacent to the corpus luteum (CL)-bearing ovary or in any third of the contralateral horn. Progesterone in uterine arterial segments adjacent to the CL-bearing ovary was higher (p less than 0.05) than in contralateral segments. Progesterone was higher (p less than 0.05) in blood from the first venous branch of the cranial third of the uterine cornu adjacent to the ovary with the CL, than in the last branch of the caudal third, or contralateral horn, or in jugular blood. When oviductal veins were resected on Day 9 postestrus, progesterone in the first vein draining the cranial third of the uterine cornu adjacent to the CL-containing ovary was not different (p greater than 0.05) 48 h after resection than in the same vessel in the opposite horn or in jugular blood. We concluded that progesterone and other ovarian products may be delivered to the uterus locally.  相似文献

Intrauterine mobility patterns of the embryonic vesicle were characterized on Days 9 to 17 after ovulation in pony mares using real-time ultrasonography (n=5 or 7 mares per day). The location of the vesicle was determined by dividing the uterus into right horn, left horn, and body. Each uterine horn was further divided into three approximately equal portions (cranial third, middle third, caudal third), yielding seven segments (body plus three portions of each horn). Location of the vesicle within the uterus was recorded every five minutes for two consecutive hours (25 location determinations per trial). The number of times the vesicle was found in the uterine body versus one of the uterine horns was greater for the body on Day 9 (15.2 vs 9.8; not significant) and Day 10 (17.3 vs 7.7 P<0.05) and greater (P<0.05) for the horns on Days 12 (7.3 vs 17.7) through 17 (0.0 vs 25.0). Averaged over all days, when the vesicle was in one of the uterine horns it was present 56% of the time in the caudal third, 30% of the time in the middle third, and 14% of the time in the cranial third. Mobility was determined by the number of times the vesicle changed locations during successive examinations. On Day 9, the mean number of location changes per trial was minimal (horn to horn, 0.2; body to horn or vice versa, 1.8; between two segments, 4.2). The extent of mobility increased on Day 10 and reached an apparent plateau from Day 11 to Day 14. The mean number of location changes per trial during the plateau was as follows: horn to horn, 1.6; body to horn or vice versa, 5.6; between two segments, 10.7. Fixation (cessation of mobility) occurred in one of the horns in 5 7 mares on Day 15 and in 7 7 mares by Day 16. Mobility was present on the earliest day the embryonic vesicle was detected (Day 9), but Days 11 to 14 were characterized as the days of maximum mobility.  相似文献

The hypothesis of a unilateral uteroovarian relationship between location of embryos and maintenance of corpora lutea (CL) was tested in superovulated cattle. Ovulations were induced in both ovaries and a uterine horn was isolated subsequent to insemination to produce unilateral pregnancy. The mean weight of CL on day 24 was greater (P<.05) on the gravid side (2580 mg) than on the nongravid side (1200 mg; n=5), supporting the hypothesis. Involvement of the main uterine vein in the unilateral pathway between a gravid horn and the adjacent ovary was demonstrated in an experiment which utilized separation of uterine horns, anastomosis of uterine veins between sides, and insertion of embryos into one side by embryo transfer. Mean weight of CL on day 24 was less (P<.05) when the gravid horn was contralateral to the CL (950 mg; n=3), than when the gravid horn was ipsilateral to the CL (4760 mg) or when the gravid horn was contralateral to the CL and the uterine vein from the contralateral side was anastomosed to the vein on the ipsilateral side (3580 mg; n=3).  相似文献

Relationships of the length of the uterus at one reproductive stage to the length at other stages and the effect on potential litter size were determined. In Experiment 1, the length of the uterus was measured in situ at 20, 60, or 100 days of age at laparotomy with 20 gilts in each of the three age groups. Forty days after the initial measurement, the uterus was again measured in situ, gilts were ovariectomized and hysterectomized, and associations among uterine measurements at the two different stages were determined. Correlations between uterine length in situ and between uterine length and weight 40 days later were all greater than 0.75 (P < 0.001). The length of one uterine horn increased from 13.9 cm at 20 days of age to 36.7 cm at 140 days of age (P < 0.01). In Experiment 2, 66 gilts were unilaterally hysterectomized and ovariectomized (UHOX) at 150 days of age and the ovary was weighed. Length of the one horn was measured in 36 gilts. At 10 days after first estrus, the length of the remaining uterine horn was measured at laparotomy and corpora lutea were counted in 53 gilts. In 15 of the 53 gilts the remaining uterine horn was removed to obtain uterine weights. At the second or third estrus, 38 gilts were mated and at Day 30 of gestation, 31 gilts were pregnant. The gilts were killed, and the length of the uterus measured and corpora lutea (CL) and fetuses were counted. The length of one uterine horn at 150 days of age was 70 cm with a range of 47–110 cm. At 10 days after first estrus, length had increased to a mean of 141 cm with a range of 86–194 cm and at 30 days of gestation the mean was 244 cm with a range of 186–311 cm. There were 12.2 CL at first estrus, which was not different from 12.4 CL at the second or third estrus. The mean number of fetuses in one horn at 30 days of gestation was 9.5 with 77% prenatal survival. Length of uterine horn at 150 days of age was correlated with uterine horn length (r = 0.56, P < 0.001) at 10 days after first estrus and number of live fetuses (r=0.39, P<0.05) at 30 days of gestation. At Day 10 after first estrus, uterine length was not correlated with the number of CL, whereas at Day 30 of gestation, the number of CL and uterine length were correlated with the number of live fetuses in those gilts with below the mean number of live fetuses, but not in those gilts with above the mean of live fetuses. The number of live fetuses (r=0.66, P < 0.001) and fetal survival (r=0.63; P < 0.001) were correlated with uterine horn length in pregnant UHOX gilts. Length of the prepubertal uterus gives an indication of postpubertal length and the potential litter size in pigs.  相似文献

Eleven superovulating Friesian lactating cows were inseminated deep into one uterine horn with one unit of frozen semen, containing 2.5 million total spermatozoa, with more than 40% postthaw progressive motility and with 14% morphologically abnormal spermatozoa. Semen was deposited into the right or left uterine horns of alternate cows. There was no difference in the proportions of fertilized recovered ova from ipsilateral horns between right and left inseminations (P>0.05). The fertilization rate in the contralateral horns was higher (P<0.01) for right uterine horn insemination (50%) than for left uterine horn insemination (15.6%).  相似文献

Rat embryos at 10 days of gestation were exposed to 43 degrees C for 8 minutes by submerging the exteriorized right uterine horn in heated saline solution and then reinserting the uterine horn into the abdominal cavity. At 15 days, the fetuses were removed, and cells from the cerebral hemispheres were dissociated and grown as primary cultures. Embryos from the left uterine horn served as controls. No morphological changes were observed between the cultures of cells from control and heat-exposed embryos at different days in culture. However, exposure of embryos to hyperthermia at 10 days significantly affected the developmental pattern of activities of acetylcholine esterase associated with cholinergic neurons and of 2',3'-cyclic nucleotide phosphohydrolase associated with oligodendrocytes and myelin membrane formation. These results suggest that hyperthermia at 10 days of gestation in the rat may lead to an impairment in the development of neurons and oligodendrocytes in the central nervous system.  相似文献

In cattle, the first postpartum dominant follicle has a predilection for the ovary contralateral to the previously gravid uterine horn, possibly due to a local inhibitory effect of the regressing corpus luteum of pregnancy in the ipsilateral ovary. The aim of the present study was to test the hypothesis that the regressing corpus luteum of pregnancy suppresses folliculogenesis in the ipsilateral ovary after parturition. Dairy cows were treated with prostaglandin F2alpha between 190 and 220 days of gestation to cause luteolysis without inducing parturition (n = 14) or were untreated controls (n = 32). Follicular growth and function were monitored by daily transrectal ultrasonography and collection of plasma samples for estimation of FSH, estradiol, and progesterone concentrations. The proportion of first dominant follicles in the ipsilateral ovary was similar for treated and control animals (4/14 vs. 8/32), as was the time interval between calving and establishment of a dominant follicle (mean +/- SEM, 10.1 +/- 0.4 vs. 10.7 +/- 0.5 days). Furthermore, no significant effect of treatment on dominant follicle growth or function was found as determined by plasma hormone concentrations. Although greater folliculogenesis was found in the ovary contralateral to the previously gravid uterine horn, once the location of the future first dominant follicle was selected, the timing of events was independent of location. We suggest that the corpus luteum of pregnancy does not have a local effect on postpartum ovarian folliculogenesis and that, instead, an effect of the previously gravid uterine horn shortly after parturition should be considered.  相似文献

A competitive insemination study was conducted to determine the effect of a deep uterine insemination on accessory sperm number per embryo in cattle. Cryopreserved semen of a fertile bull characterized by spermatozoa with a semi-flattened region of the anterior sperm head (marked bull) was matched with cryopreserved semen from an unmarked bull having spermatozoa with a conventional head shape. Using 0.25-mL French straws and a side delivery embryo transfer device, deep uterine insemination (0.125 mL deposited in each horn) was performed 2 cm from the uterotubal junction. Immediately after, the uterine body was artificially inseminated using semen (0.25 mL) from an alternate bull and a conventional insemination device. The complete dose (both inseminations) was 50x10(6) total sperm cells consisting of an equal number of spermatozoa from each bull. Single ovulating cows (n = 95) were inseminated at random with either the unmarked semen in the uterine body and marked semen in the uterine horn, or the unmarked semen in the uterine horn and marked semen in the uterine body. Sixty-one embryos(ova) were recovered nonsurgically 6 d post insemination, of which 40 were fertilized and contained accessory spermatozoa. The ratio and total number of accessory spermatozoa recovered was different among treatments: 62:38 (326) for the unmarked semen in the uterine body and marked semen in the uterine horn, and 72:28 (454) for the unmarked semen in the uterine horn and marked semen in the uterine body (P<0.05). Deep uterine insemination using this semen in a split dose and a side delivery device favors accessibility of spermatozoa to the ovum compared with conventional uterine body insemination.  相似文献

The distribution and development of pig embryos were determined in relation to the number of embryos and their positions within the uterine horn between Days 14 and 34 after mating. The observed distribution of 1-11 embryos within a uterine horn was highly correlated (r = 0-96) with the theoretical expected distribution. Embryo spacing was uniform regardless of the number of embryos within the horn. Nitrogen content of the embryo in relation to its position within the uterine horn indicated that development was similar for embryos located at the utero-tubal end or cervical end and comparable to those located in the middle portion of the horm. Placental development, as indicated by nitrogen content, was similar regardless of location within the horn.  相似文献

Effects of right versus left side activities of the reproductive organs on sperm transport after deep cornual insemination were evaluated in 1686 Friesian cows in their first lactational period. Only single ovulating animals were used. At insemination, semen was deposited deep into the uterine horn ipsilateral or contralateral to the preovulatory follicle. Pregnancy rates were used as measurement of the success of sperm transport. The reproductive history of each cow included that of the side of the previous gestation. A higher activity of the right versus left side was registered. Following calving and after uterine involution, activities of the right versus left side reproductive organs remained constant independently of the side of previous pregnancy, and did not affect transuterine sperm transport. The data indicate that after uterine involution sperm transport is not affected by bilateral asymmetry of the reproductive system in cattle.  相似文献
