Although neuropsychological dysfunction is found among A-bomb survivors exposed in utero as it is among patients who receive central nervous system radiotherapy, neuropsychological examinations have not been conducted on the survivors. Its prevalence may be increased as a result of the increased rate of strokes reported among those exposed to a high radiation dose. In this study, we examined the effects of radiation exposure on cognitive function among adult survivors in the Adult Health Study (AHS). The study subjects were men and women born prior to September 1932 who had undergone biennial examinations during the period 1992-1996 in Hiroshima or 1993-1998 in Nagasaki. We evaluated cognitive performance for 3,113 subjects with the Cognitive Abilities Screening Instrument (CASI), and we examined the relationship between cognitive performance and potentially related factors (sex, age, city where the subjects were exposed, years of education, and radiation dose). In contrast to exposure to radiotherapy, exposure to atomic bomb radiation had no apparent effect on cognitive function. Factors that did affect cognitive function were age, sex, city and years of education. Further investigation, including examination of other neurological functions, is required before a final conclusion regarding radiation-induced neurological dysfunction can be reached.  相似文献

Results of studies on the possible effects of electromagnetic fields emitted by mobile phones on cognitive functions are contradictory, therefore, possible effects of long‐term (7 h 15 min) electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure to handset‐like signals of Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) 900 and Wideband Code‐Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) on attention and working memory were studied. The sample comprised 30 healthy male subjects (mean ± SD: 25.3 ± 2.6 years), who were tested on nine study days in which they were exposed to three exposure conditions (sham, GSM 900 and WCDMA) in a randomly assigned and balanced order. All tests were presented twice (morning and afternoon) on each study day within a fixed timeframe. Univariate comparisons revealed significant changes when subjects were exposed to GSM 900 compared to sham, only in the vigilance test. In the WCDMA exposure condition, one parameter in the vigilance and one in the test on divided attention were altered compared to sham. Performance in the selective attention test and the n‐back task was not affected by GSM 900 or WCDMA exposure. Time‐of‐day effects were evident for the tests on divided and selective attention, as well as for working memory. After correction for multiple testing, only time‐of‐day effects remained significant in two tests, resulting in faster reactions in the afternoon trials. The results of the present study do not provide any evidence of an EMF effect on human cognition, but they underline the necessity to control for time of day. Aspartame, a high intensity sweetener, is used extensively worldwide in over 5,000 products. Upon ingestion, aspartame is completely metabolized to two amino acids and methanol (approximately 50% phenylalanine, 40% aspartic acid, and 10% methanol). The effects of aspartame on cognitive function, electroencephalograms (EEGs) and biochemical parameters were evaluated in 48 adult (21 men, 27 women) heterozygotes for phenylketonuria (PKUH). PKUH subjects whose carrier status had been proven by DNA analysis ingested aspartame (either 15 or 45 mg/kg/day) and placebo for 12 weeks on each treatment using a randomized, doubleblind, placebo-controlled, crossover study. A computerized battery of neuropsychological tests was administered at baseline weeks -2 and -1, and during treatment at weeks 6, 12, 18, and 24. Samples for plasma amino acids and urinary organic acids were also collected during these visits. EEGs were evaluated by conventional and spectral analysis at baseline week -1 and treatment weeks 12 and 24. The results of the neuropsychological tests demonstrated that aspartame had no effect on cognitive function. Plasma phenylalanine significantly increased, within the normal range for PKUH, at 1 and 3 h following the morning dose of aspartame in the group receiving the 45 mg/kg per day dose only. There were no significant differences in the conventional or spectral EEG analyses, urinary organic acid concentrations, and adverse experiences when aspartame was compared with placebo. This study reaffirms the safety of aspartame in PKUH and refutes the speculation that aspartame affects cognitive performance, EEGs, and urinary organic acids.  相似文献

We aimed to investigate the potential hazardous effects of prenatal and/or postnatal exposure to 1800 MHz GSM-like radiofrequency radiation (RFR) on the blood chemistry and lipid peroxidation levels of infant rabbits. A total of 72 New Zealand female and male white rabbits aged 1-month were used. Thirty-six female and 36 male were divided into four groups which were composed of nine infants: (i) Group 1 were the sham exposure (control), (ii) Group 2 were exposed to RFR, 15 min daily for 7 days in the prenatal period (between 15th and 22nd days of the gestational period) (prenatal exposure group). (iii) Group 3 were exposed to RFR 15 min/day (14 days for male, whereas 7 days for female) after they reached 1-month of age (postnatal exposure group). (iv) Group 4 were exposed to RFR for 15 min daily during 7 days in the prenatal period (between 15th and 22nd days of the gestational period) and 15 min/day (14 days for male, whereas 7 days for female) after they reached 1-month of age (prenatal and postnatal exposure group). Results showed that serum lipid peroxidation level in both female and male rabbits changed due to the RFR exposure. However, different parameters of the blood biochemistry were affected by exposure in male and female infants. Consequently, the whole-body 1800 MHz GSM-like RFR exposure may lead to oxidative stress and changes on some blood chemistry parameters. Studies on RFR exposure during prenatal and postnatal periods will help to establish international standards for the protection of pregnants and newborns from environmental RFR.  相似文献

This study was conducted to assess potential adverse functional and/or morphological effects of styrene on the neurological system in the F2 offspring following F0 and F1 generation whole-body inhalation exposures. Four groups of male and female Crl:CD (SD)IGS BR rats (25/sex/group) were exposed to 0, 50, 150, and 500 ppm styrene for 6 hr daily for at least 70 consecutive days prior to mating for the F0 and F1 generations. Inhalation exposure continued for the F0 and F1 females throughout mating and through gestation day 20. On lactation days 1 through 4, the F0 and F1 females received styrene in virgin olive oil via oral gavage at dose levels of 66, 117, and 300 mg/kg/day (divided into three equal doses, approximately 2 hr apart). Inhalation exposure of the F0 and F1 females was re-initiated on lactation day 5 and continued through weaning of the F1 or F2 pups on postnatal day (PND) 21. Developmental landmarks were assessed in F1 and F2 offspring. The neurological development of randomly selected pups from the F2 generation was assessed by functional observational battery, locomotor activity, acoustic startle response, learning and memory evaluations, brain weights and dimension measurements, and brain morphometric and histologic evaluation. Styrene exposure did not affect survival or the clinical condition of the animals. As expected from previous studies, slight body weight and histopathologic effects on the nasal olfactory epithelium were found in F0 and F1 rats exposed to 500 ppm and, to a lesser extent, 150 ppm. There were no indications of adverse effects on reproductive performance in either the F0 or F1 generation. There were exposure-related reductions in mean body weights of the F1 and F2 offspring from the mid and high-exposure groups and an overall pattern of slightly delayed development evident in the F2 offspring only from the 500-ppm group. This developmental delay included reduced body weight (which continued through day 70) and slightly delayed acquisition of some physical landmarks of development. Styrene exposure of the F0 and F1 animals had no effect on survival, the clinical condition or necropsy findings of the F2 animals. Functional observational battery evaluations conducted for all F1 dams during the gestation and lactation periods and for the F2 offspring were unaffected by styrene exposure. Swimming ability as determined by straight channel escape times measured on PND 24 were increased, and reduced grip strength values were evident for both sexes on PND 45 and 60 in the 500-ppm group compared to controls. There were no other parental exposure-related findings in the F2 pre-weaning and post-weaning functional observational battery assessments, the PND 20 and PND 60 auditory startle habituation parameters, in endpoints of learning and memory performance (escape times and errors) in the Biel water maze task at either testing age, or in activity levels measured on PND 61 in the 500-ppm group. Taken together, the exposure-related developmental and neuromotor changes identified in F2 pups from dams exposed to 500 ppm occurred in endpoints known to be both age- and weight-sensitive parameters, and were observed in the absence of any other remarkable indicators of neurobehavioral toxicity. Based on the results of this study, an exposure level of 50 ppm was considered to be the NOAEL for growth of F2 offspring; an exposure level of 500 ppm was considered to be the NOAEL for F2 developmental neurotoxicity.  相似文献

The pathological effects of exposure to an electromagnetic field (EMF) during childhood and adolescence may be greater than those from exposure during adulthood. We investigated possible pathological changes in the cerebellum of adolescent rats exposed to 900 MHz EMF daily for 25 days. We used three groups of six 21-day-old male rats as follows: unexposed control group (Non-EG), sham-exposed group (Sham-EG) and an EMF-exposed group (EMF-EG). EMF-EG rats were exposed to EMF in an EMF cage for 1 h daily from postnatal days 21 through 46. Sham-EG rats were placed in the EMF cage for 1 h daily, but were not subjected to EMF. No procedures were performed on the Non-EG rats. The cerebellums of all animals were removed on postnatal day 47, sectioned and stained with cresyl violet for histopathological and stereological analyses. We found significantly fewer Purkinje cells in the EMF-EG group than in the Non-EG and Sham-EG groups. Histopathological evaluation revealed alteration of normal Purkinje cell arrangement and pathological changes including intense staining of neuron cytoplasm in the EMF-EG group. We found that exposure to continuous 900 MHz EMF for 1 h/day during adolescence can disrupt cerebellar morphology and reduce the number of Purkinje cells in adolescent rats.  相似文献

Acute exposure to ozone causes changes inbreathing pattern and lung function which may be caused in part bystimulation of rapidly adapting receptors (RARs). The consequences ofrepeated daily ozone exposure on RAR responsiveness are unknown, although ozone-induced changes in pulmonary function diminish withrepeated exposure. Accordingly, we investigated whether repeated daily ozone exposure diminishes the general responsiveness of RARs. Guineapigs (n = 30) were exposed to 0.5 parts/million ozone or filtered air (8 h/day for 7 days). The animalswere then anesthetized, and RAR impulse activity, dynamic compliance(Cdyn), and lung resistance were recorded at baseline and in responseto four stimuli: substance P, methacholine, hyperinflation, and removalof positive end-expiratory pressure. Repeated daily ozone exposureexaggerated RAR responses to substance P, methacholine, andhyperinflation without causing physiologically relevant effects onbaseline or substance P- and methacholine-induced changes in Cdyn andlung resistance. Because agonist-evoked changes in RAR activitypreceded Cdyn changes, the data suggest that repeated daily ozoneexposure enhances RAR responsiveness via a mechanism other than changes in Cdyn.

BACKGROUND: This study was conducted to evaluate the potential adverse effects of whole-body inhalation exposure of F0 and F1 parental animals from a 2-generation reproduction study of ethylbenzene on nervous system functional and/or morphologic end points in the F2 offspring from four groups of male and female Crl:CD (SD)IGS BR rats. METHODS: Thirty rats/sex/group for F0 and 25/sex/group for F1 were exposed to 0, 25, 100, and 500 ppm ethylbenzene for six hours daily for at least 70 consecutive days prior to mating for the F0 and F1 generations. Inhalation exposure for the F0 and F1 females continued throughout mating and gestation through Gestation Day (GD) 20. On lactation days (LD) 1-4, the F0 and F1 females received no inhalation exposure, but instead were administered ethylbenzene in corn oil via oral gavage at dosages estimated to result in similar internal maternal exposure based upon PBPK modeling estimates (0, 26, 90, and 342 mg/kg/day, respectively, divided into three equal doses, approximately two hours apart). Inhalation exposure of the F0 and F1 females was reinitiated on LD 5 and continued through weaning on postnatal day (PND) 21. Survival, body weights, and physical landmarks were assessed in selected F2 offspring. Neurobehavioral development of one F2-generation treatment derived offspring/sex/litter was assessed in a functional observational battery (FOB; PND 4, 11, 22, 45, and 60), motor activity sessions (PND 13, 17, 21, and 61), acoustic startle testing (PND 20 and 60), a Biel water maze learning and memory task (initiated on PND 26 or 62), and in evaluations of whole-brain measurements and brain morphometric and histologic assessments (PND 21 and 72). RESULTS: There were no adverse effects on reproductive performance in either the F0 or F1 parental generations exposed to up to 500 ppm ethylbenzene [Faber et al. Birth Defects Res Part B 77:10-21, 2006]. In the current developmental neurotoxicity component, parental ethylbenzene exposure did not adversely affect offspring survival, clinical condition, body weight parameters, or acquisition of developmental landmarks of the F2-generation treatment derived offspring. There were no alterations in FOB parameters, motor activity counts, acoustic startle endpoints, or Biel water maze performance in offspring attributed to parental ethylbenzene exposure. A few isolated instances of statistically significant differences obtained in the treatment-derived groups occurred sporadically, and were attributed to unusual patterns of development and/or behavior in the concurrent control group. There were no exposure-related differences in any neuropathology parameters in the F2-generation treatment derived offspring. CONCLUSIONS: The no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) for maternal reproductive toxicity, developmental toxicity, and developmental neurotoxicity in this study was considered to be 500 ppm/342 mg/kg/day ethylbenzene, the highest exposure level tested in the study.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the cochlear functionality of Sprague-Dawley rats exposed to electromagnetic fields at 900 MHz and to gentamicin by distortion product otoacoustic emissions, which are a well-known indicator of the status of the cochlea's outer hair cells. A population of 32 rats was divided into four groups: group 1 was treated with daily intramuscular injections of 150 mg/kg body weight gentamicin for 15 days; group 2 was treated with daily intramuscular injections of 150 mg/kg body weight gentamicin for 15 days and exposed to electromagnetic fields; group 3 was exposed to electromagnetic fields; group 4 was sham-exposed. Rats were exposed 2 h/day, 5 days/week for 4 weeks at a local SAR of 4 W/kg in the ear (continuous wave at 900 MHz). Distortion product otoacoustic emissions tests were carried out before, during and after the combined exposure. The analysis of the data showed no subchronic exposure to electromagnetic fields on the inner auditory system of rats in either normal ears or ears exposed to a well-recognized pathological agent.  相似文献

The effects of 4 consecutive days of 1-h exposure to 0.35 ppm ozone (O3) on maximal O2 uptake (VO2max), performance time, pulmonary function, and subjective symptom responses were studied in eight aerobically trained males. Each subject was first exposed in random order to filtered air (FA) and 0.35 ppm O3 while exercising on a bicycle ergometer for 50 min at a work load eliciting minute ventilation of approximately 60 1/min. A rapidly incremented VO2max test to volitional fatigue was completed within 10 min following each of these exposures, as well as on day 4 of the consecutive daily exposures to O3. Initial exposure to O3 induced the occurrence of subjective symptoms, as well as significant pulmonary function impairment and decrements in maximal exercise performance time (from 253 to 211 s) and VO2max (from 3.85 to 3.62 l/min). Following the fourth consecutive day of exposure to O3, pulmonary function impairment was not significantly different from initial exposure to O3, although subjective symptom severity was significantly reduced. Exercise performance time (239 s) and VO2max (3.79 l/min) on the fourth consecutive daily exposure to O3 were not significantly different from FA values. These data indicate no significant adaptation to initial O3 exposure-induced pulmonary function impairment following four consecutive daily exposures to O3, although reduced subjective symptom severity and enhanced exercise performance time on day 4 suggest an habituation effect. Our results also suggest that O3 adaptation may be a more complex phenomena than identified previously.  相似文献

In this study, we characterized estrogenic effects of diethylstilbestrol (DES) on reproductive parameters in male rats to identify a minimal dose level that alters epididymal and sperm functions but has little or no effect on sperm production and/or spermatogenesis. Adult rats (five animals/group) received s.c. injections of 0.2 ml of corn oil containing DES at a rate of 1.0 mg, 200 microg, 40 microg, 8 microg, 1.6 microg, or 320 ng x rat(-1) x day(-1) for 12 days. The control group received corn oil only. DES effects were similar in the 8-microg group and higher dose groups and included significant (P < or = 0.05) reductions in 1) absolute and relative weights of the head and body of the epididymis (EP), tail of the EP, and seminal vesicle, 2) numbers of sperm in both regions of the EP, and 3) motility characteristics in sperm collected from the tail of the EP. Conversely, no significant changes were observed in relative testis weight, daily sperm production, spermatogenesis, seminiferous epithelial height in stage VII, and sperm morphology. All of the above parameters in the 1.6-microg group (except seminal vesicle weight) and 320-ng group were comparable to those of controls. Plasma testosterone (T) level was reduced to an almost undetectable level in the > or = 8-microg groups and to a very low level in the 1.6-microg group (0.35 vs. 2.36 ng/ml in controls or 320-ng group), but LH level was unaltered. In a parallel fertility study, males received DES at a rate of 40, 8, or 1.6 microg x rat(-1) x day(-1) for 12 days prior to and 12 days during cohabitation (1:1) with untreated females. Of the 15 females cohabited with treated males (5 females/dose), none in the 40-microg and 8-microg groups and 1 in the 1.6-microg group formed a copulatory plug and delivered 8 pups, in contrast to 5/5 copulatory plugs and 13-15 pups/litter in the controls. DES at a rate of 8 microg x rat(-1) x day(-1) for 12 days reduced EP weights, sperm numbers in the EP, and sperm motility patterns but caused minimal to no alterations in daily sperm production, spermatogenesis, or sperm morphology. Factors other than T, or in addition to lower T, may be responsible for DES-induced reproductive disorders (despite lower T, sperm contents and sperm motility patterns in the EP were normal in the 1.6-microg group). Deficits in EP sperm functions and/or sexual behavior (as evident from absence of copulatory plugs) probably accounted for reduced fertility in treated males.  相似文献

The effects of the mobile phone (MP) electromagnetic fields on electroencephalography (EEG) and event-related potentials (ERP) were examined. With regard to the reported effects of MP on sleep, 22 patients with narcolepsy-cataplexy were exposed or sham exposed for 45 min to the MP (900 MHz, specific absorption rate 0.06 W/kg) placed close to the right ear in a double blind study. There were no changes of the EEG recorded after the MP exposure. A subgroup of 17 patients was studied on visual ERP recorded during the MP exposure. Using an adapted "odd-ball" paradigm, each patient was instructed to strike a key whenever rare target stimuli were presented. There were three variants of target stimuli (horizontal stripes in (i) left, (ii) right hemifields or (iii) whole field of the screen). The exposure enhanced the positivity of the ERP endogenous complex solely in response to target stimuli in the right hemifield of the screen (P < 0.01). The reaction time was shortened by 20 ms in response to all target stimuli (P < 0.05). In conclusion, the electromagnetic field of MP may suppress the excessive sleepiness and improve performance while solving a monotonous cognitive task requiring sustained attention and vigilance.  相似文献

Exposure of rams to alternating 16-week cycles of long and short days (16L:8D and 8L:16D) results in periods of testicular regression followed by testicular redevelopment, and there is an inverse relationship between the blood levels of prolactin and testis activity. In this study, two groups of rams were held under long or short day lengths for a period of 94 weeks. When held under either long or short days for more than 16 weeks, the animals showed spontaneous changes in gonadal activity and in the secretion of prolactin, both of which were no longer correlated with the prevailing photoperiod, i.e., they became photorefractory. The photorefractoriness was characterized by cyclical changes in testis function which were independent of day length. The period of these spontaneous cycles was similar during both treatment regimens (long days: 40.9 +/- 1.5 weeks; short days: 38.1 +/- 0.33 weeks), suggesting the presence of an endogenous pacemaker for the reproductive system. The changes in blood prolactin levels during photorefractoriness were no longer correlated with testis activity, and though cyclical, the period lengths differed under the two regimens (long days: 31.8 +/- 1.4 weeks; short days: 48.6 +/- 0.3 weeks). The rates of change in testis function and prolactin secretion were slower during the refractory state than during the photosensitive state. Upon switching the rams to a different photoperiod after the 94 weeks of exposure to fixed day lengths, the rams showed relatively rapid testicular and prolactin responses. Photoperiodic information appears to be relayed to the endocrine system through the daily pattern of melatonin secretion by the pineal. We measured the daily blood levels of melatonin on several occasions during phases of photosensitivity and photorefractoriness in the same group of rams. During the first 21 weeks under both lighting treatments, the rams showed synchronized daily patterns in their blood levels of melatonin, with elevated levels occurring mainly during the daily period of darkness. Similar synchronized daily rhythms were also seen when the rams were switched to a different photoperiod following 94 weeks of exposure to either long or short days. Between Weeks 21 and 94, the daily rhythms of melatonin did not occur consistently in all rams; often, the patterns differed markedly between individual rams held under the same day length and peak levels of melatonin were not always confined to periods of darkness.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 400 WORDS)  相似文献

Prolonged exposure to conspecific song stimulates gonadal function and reproductive hormone secretion in female birds but few studies have investigated the physiological effects of conspecific song exposure on males outside of short-term, aggressive interactions. We exposed male Rufous-winged Sparrows, Aimophila carpalis, either to conspecific song (CS Song), to heterospecific song (Black-throated Sparrow, Amphispiza bilineata; HS Song), or to no recorded song (No Song) for 59 consecutive days (two h per day). Birds were exposed to short days (8L:16D) for the first 21 days of treatment and were then transferred to long days (13L:11D) for the remaining 38 days. During long day exposure, CS Song birds experienced faster growth of testes than HS Song and No Song birds. HS Song birds also grew their testes faster than No Song birds. Plasma luteinizing hormone (LH) and testosterone did not differ between CS Song and No Song birds. However, plasma LH was higher in HS Song birds compared to other groups. There were no differences in hypothalamic immunocytochemical labeling for gonadotropin-releasing hormone, its precursor proGnRH, or gonadotropin-inhibitory hormone, nor were there differences in two song control nuclei volumes (HVC and RA) between CS Song and No Song treatment groups. Furthermore, we found no effect of heterospecific song on free-living Rufous-winged Sparrow aggressive behaviors. These data indicate that long-term exposure to auditory stimuli, such as song, can influence the reproductive system of male songbirds and different types of auditory stimuli can have differential effects on reproductive function.  相似文献

Electromagnetic field (EMF) exposures have been shown to induce heat shock proteins (HSPs), which help to maintain the conformation of cellular proteins during periods of stress. We have previously reported that short-term exposure of chick embryos to either 60 Hz (extremely low frequency: ELF), or radio-frequency (RF: 915 MHz) EMFs induce protection against hypoxia. Experiments presented in the current report are based on a study in which long-term (4 days), continuous exposure to ELF-EMFs decreased protection against ultraviolet radiation. Based on this result, it was hypothesized that de-protection against hypoxia should also occur following long-term, continuous, or daily, repeated exposures to EMFs. To test this hypothesis, chick embryos were exposed to ELF-EMFs (8 microT) continuously for 4 days, or to ELF or RF (3.5 mW incident power)-EMFs repeated daily (20, 30, or 60 min once or twice daily for 4 days). Several of the exposure protocols yielded embryos that had statistically significant decreases in protection against hypoxic stress (continuous and 30 or 60 min ELF twice daily; or 30 or 60 min once daily RF). This is consistent with our finding that following 4 days of ELF-EMF exposure, HSP70 levels decline by 27% as compared to controls. In addition, the superposition of ELF-EMF noise, previously shown to minimize ELF-EMF induced hypoxia protection, inhibited hypoxia de-protection caused by long term, continuous ELF or daily, repeated RF exposures. This EMF-induced decrease in HSP70 levels and resulting decline in cytoprotection suggests a mechanism by which daily exposure (such as might be experienced by mobile phone users) could enhance the probability of cancer and other diseases.  相似文献

Background

Associations between alcohol consumption and cognitive function are discordant and data focusing on midlife exposure are scarce.

Objective

To estimate the association between midlife alcohol consumption and cognitive performance assessed 13 y later while accounting for comorbidities and diet.

Methods

3,088 French middle-aged adults included in the SU.VI.MAX (1994) study with available neuropsychological evaluation 13 y later. Data on alcohol consumption were obtained from repeated 24h dietary records collected in 1994–1996. Cognitive performance was assessed in 2007–2009 via a battery of 6 neuropsychological tests. A composite score was built as the mean of the standardized individual test scores (mean = 50, SD = 10). ANCOVA were performed to estimate mean differences in cognitive performance and 95% confidence intervals (CI).

Results

In women, abstainers displayed lower cognitive scores than did low-to-moderate alcohol drinkers (1 to 2 drinks/day) (mean difference = −1.77; 95% CI: −3.29, −0.25). In men, heavy drinkers (>3 drinks/day) had higher cognitive scores than did low-to-moderate (1 to 3 drinks/day) (mean difference = 1.05; 95% CI: 0.10, 1.99). However, a lower composite cognitive score was detected in male drinkers consuming ≥90 g/d (≈8 drinks/d). A higher proportion of alcohol intake from beer was also associated with lower cognitive scores. These associations remained significant after adjustment for diet, comorbidities and sociodemographic factors.

Conclusion

In men, heavy but not extreme drinking was associated with higher global cognitive scores. Given the known harmful effects of alcohol even in low doses regarding risk of cancer, the study does not provide a basis for modifying current public health messages.

This study investigated the effects of a static magnetic field (SMF) on hematopoiesis and biochemical parameters in female rats. Pregnant rats were exposed to SMF (128 mT-1 hour/day from day 6 to day 19 of pregnancy). At 25 degrees C, the exposure of rats 1 hour/day for 13 consecutive days to SMF induced an increase in hematocrit (Ht) level (+6%, p < 0.05), hemoglobin (Hb) concentration (+12%, p < 0.05) and LDH levels (67%, p < 0.05 ), suggesting an hypoxia-like state. Moreover, exposure to SMF increased blood glucose and decreased insulin release, leading to a diabetic-like state in pregnant rats.  相似文献
