The geographical distribution of a saprotrophic hyphomycete,Sporidesmium goidanichii was studied in pine forests of Japan. Using the data of 282 fungal communitles of pine leaf litter collected over a wide
range of climatic conditions, the relationships among two indexes of distribution of the species (constancy and abundance)
and three climatic variables were analyzed by the multiple regression analysis. The results demonstrated that the mean annual
air temperature and the mean annual range (the difference in monthly mean air temperatures between the coldest and warmest
months at the study sites) were necessary variables for the prediction of the values of indexes ofS. goidanichii in pine forests of Japan, while the mean annual precipitation was an unimportant factor. The distribution patterns of the
fungus along the gradients of two temperature variables were analyzed graphically. The fungus has an optimal climatic area
with high values of indexes where is restricted to the center of the warm temperate regions of the main islands. The relationship
between the life strategy of the fungus and its temperature-dependent distribution pattern in Japan was also discussed.

Polycelis (Seidlia) auriculata is endemic to mountain districts of Japan, from the central part of Honshû to the area of the Daisetsu Mts of Hokkaidô. In northern Japan, it sometimes occurs in cold-water biotopes of lowland areas. The progenitor of P. auriculata appears to have been the oldest immigrant into northern Japan among the Japanese Polycelis species, entering through a northern route as a preglacial faunal element. P. auriculata now shows a discontinious distribution in northern Japan. By virtue of its geographical and vertical distribution, ecological niche, variation in anatomy of the copulatory apparatus, and cytodemes, this species appears to be in the process of transformation. 相似文献

There is little available data on the biogeography of myxomycetes at the regional scale within any given climate zone. To investigate the geographical distribution of these protozoans, we focused on corticolous myxomycetes associated with the bark of Cryptomeria japonica trees, which we sampled extensively throughout Japan. Myxomycete sporophores developed in 73% of 2244 moist-chamber cultures of 188 bark samples from 24 regions, including 31 species. The most abundant species were Paradiacheopsis rigida and Cribraria confusa, which accounted for over 20% of all myxomycetes sampled. Non-metric multidimensional scaling was used to analyze the distribution of myxomycetes in relation to geographical variables and bark pH. The distribution of myxomycetes was influenced by altitude, temperature and bark pH. Temperature gradients and relative abundance of species were negatively correlated in P. rigida and Comatricha laxa and positively correlated in C. confusa, Macbrideora cornea, and Diderma chondrioderma. Bark pH was also positively correlated with the relative abundance of C. confusa, D. chondrioderma, and Physarum nutans and negatively correlated with that of P. rigida, P. cribrata, Enerthnema papillatum, and E. melanospermum. Geographical distribution of corticolous myxomycete communities was determined based on temperature and bark pH, which acted as local barriers in our study area. 相似文献

To clarify the geographic distribution of spotted fever group (SFG) rickettsiae in Japan, small field rodents captured in endemic and nonendemic areas were screened for anti-SFG rickettsia antibodies by the immunofluorescence test. Among total 716 specimens tested, 73-75% of rodents were antibody-positive against Rickettsia japonica and/or Rickettsia montana, showing different degree of antibody-positive proportions among each species of the rodents. Interestingly, these profiles were not different in the rodents from each endemic and nonendemic areas, indicating that the SFG rickettsiae are prevailing in the wider areas where patients have not been found yet. 相似文献

There are various antigenic variants of Orientia tsutsugamushi which are distinguished by immunological and molecular genetic methods targeted at the antigenic diversity of 56-kDa type-specific antigen proteins. The present study was performed to analyze 15 strains successfully isolated from rodents in Saitama Prefecture, Japan, by 56-kDa gene sequence homologies, reactivities with type-specific monoclonal antibodies and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using type-specific primer-pairs. We demonstrated the presence of a new type of O. tsutsugamushi among the isolates. This new type, designated as the Saitama type, was located in the branch of Karp type in the phylogenetic tree based on 56-kDa gene sequences, but distant from the known Karp types, such as Karp, JP-1 and JP-2, showing less than 90% homology. Strains of this type could not be distinguished by immunological methods from Karp type strains, but a new primer-pair for PCR which specifically amplifies the DNA of this new type strain was designed. This primer-pair may serve to find this strain type in future studies. 相似文献

More than 100 strains ofLemna paucicostata Hegelm. collected from various localities in Japan were classified into 4 types according to the criterion of Yukawa and
Takimoto (1976). N-1 type strains are widely distributed in Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu, N-2 type strains only in
the area on the Japan Sea side of north Japan, K type strain only at the campus of Kyoto University, and S type strains in
southern Japan.
Numbers of chromosomes in somatic cells of N-1, N-2, K and S type strains were 2n=66–84, 40, 50 and 40, respectively. In N-2
and S type strains, all chromosomes (20 bivalent chromosomes) were lined up on the equatorial plate at metaphase of the first
meiotic division (MI). However, in N-1 type strains, several chromosomes, and in the K type strain, more chromosomes were
away from the equatorial plate at MI. Pollen fertility was 60–70%, higher than 90%, 0% and higher than 90%, in N-1, N-2, K

Although the perennial grass Dactylis glomerata L. has established dominant populations in Japan since its introduction in the 1870s, there have been marked reductions in
its abundance in southern and northeastern regions. In order to examine the effects of climatic factors on distribution and
differentiation of the naturalized populations of D. glomerata, abundance of 26 populations over a distance of 1500 km along a latitudinal gradient was recorded at each site, and life-history
traits of each population were measured in a common garden. It was found that the reduction in abundance was related to the
mean summer temperature in southern regions and to the lowest temperature before snow cover in northeastern regions. Recent
climatic records in Japan show an increase in the mean summer temperature but no apparent changes in the lowest temperature
before snow cover. These data suggest that, assuming the recent trend in climatic changes continues, the population abundance
will decrease in southern regions and will change little in the northeastern regions. Germination speed, leaf width and reproductive
allocations showed clinal variation over a geographical range, and the southern populations had more rapid germination, narrower
leaves and lower reproductive allocation than did the northern populations. On the other hand, seed size and germination date
showed margin-center differentiation. Marginal populations in both distributional borders had smaller seeds and lower germination
rates than did the central populations.

This study obtained information on the biogeographical distribution of lignicolous myxomycetes in temperate regions in Japan. It examined how climatic variables are related to patterns of occurrence in myxomycete communities. Sixty-four taxa were recorded on coniferous wood in 15 forest sites in summer. Common species that were abundant and widely distributed in Japan included Stemonitis axifera, Lycogala epidendrum, and Cribraria cancellata. In addition, Lindbladia cribrarioides was characteristic on dead Pinus densiflora wood in southwestern Japan. The species diversity index (H′) of the myxomycete communities was positively correlated with the annual mean temperature. The distribution of myxomycete communities was analyzed using nonmultidimensional scaling (NMDS). The ecological nature of the gradients expressed by the first two NMDS axes was that the first axis was found to correspond strongly to changes in the average minimum temperature and the latitude, and the second axis was related to a complex of factors, including altitude. The relative abundance of certain species in a myxomycete community on Japanese red pine changed in relation to the annual mean temperature, e.g., Lycogala epidendrum correlated negatively while Stemonitopsis hyperopta did so positively. We conclude that air temperatures can be used to predict the geographical distribution of lignicolous myxomycetes in this temperate region of Japan. 相似文献

In addition to behavioral evidence for the detection of "earth-strength" magnetic fields (MF) by rodents, recent investigations have revealed that electrophysiological and biochemical responses to MF occur in the pineal organ and retina of rodents. L-fucose (fucose) is a monosaccharide normally present in mammals and is unique in being the only levorotatory sugar that can be synthesized and utilized by mammals. The metabolism of fucose is incompletely understood, but fucose can be synthesized de novo or salvaged. The utilization of fucose in the salvage pathway begins with phosphorylation by fucokinase. As part of an investigation of fucose metabolism in normal and disease states, we began an investigation of this enzyme. In this report, we present the tissue distribution of the enzyme in rat and mouse. The highest amount of activity was present in brain of both species. Some activity was found in all tissues examined (liver, kidney, heart, lung, spleen, brain, muscle, thymus, white adipose, testes, eye, aorta, small intestine, and submaxillary gland). Very low levels were found in small intestine. Varying levels in the tissues seems most likely to be the result of varying amounts of fucokinase protein as no difference in the Km values of crude enzyme could be shown. Protein-bound fucose levels were determined using the L-cysteine-phenol-sulfuric acid (CPS) assay. There is not a good correlation between fucokinase activity and protein-bound fucose, suggesting some tissues are more active in synthesis of fucose than others. 相似文献

Using materials from a nationwide screening project on inborn errors of metabolism in Japan, the incidence of histidinemia, phenylketonuria, galactosemia and homocystinuria were found to be 140, 16, 14 and 7 in 1 million live births, respectively. Bird schistosomes can cause a disease called cercarial dermatitis, or swimmer's itch, in humans. The disease occurs when people have direct contact with fresh water or sea water containing the free-swimming cercariae of the flukes. The symptoms are well known, and include intense itching, maculae, papulae, urticariae and, in some cases, local oedema with enlarged lymph nodes and fever. In this study, we present the geographical distribution of freshwater cercarial dermatitis in Norway. The study is based on random reports obtained from both individuals and physicians treating patients with itching skin rash after freshwater bathing. The first case of cercarial dermatitis in Norway was reported in 1980 and was traced to a lake near Trondheim in the central part of Norway. In the following years, an increasing number of cases were reported, especially in southern Norway. However, case reports are distributed almost all over the country, even from lakes in northern Norway. As far as we know, these are the northernmost case reports in Europe. So far, only one fluke species (Trichobilharzia franki) from a single infected snail (Radix auricularia) has been identified in Norway. However, unidentified schistosomatid ocellate cercariae have been found on several occasions in snails collected from six lakes where swimmer's itch is frequently reported. Future studies should be performed to identify the fluke species, as well as the most important snail and bird hosts, in Norwegian lakes. 相似文献

Plutonium-214 citrate solution at pH 6-5 was injected intravenously or intra-peritoneally into hamsters and rats at a dose of 50 MBq kg-1 (1-35 mCi kg-1). The animals were killed 1 day or 1 week later, and tissues were removed for autoradiography and radiochemical analysis. Plutonium-241 was distributed in rats in the same way as plutonium-239, and is a suitable isotope for high-resolution tissue-section autoradiography. Plutonium deposits in cells consisted of a nuclear and a cytoplasmic component. In the hamster kidney cells, the amount associated with the nucleus was about 55 per cent of the total cellular plutonium at 24 hours after injection. Six days later, it was only about 30 per cent. Plutonium deposits were also characterized in hepatocytes, in the interstitial cells of the testes, in the cells of ovarian follicles, in chondrocytes and in bone cells, including osteoblasts and osteocytes. In bone there appeared to be both an extracellular and intracellular deposit. No evidence was found of substantial incorporation of plutonium into the mineral phase of bone. 相似文献

Studies of arboviruses started in Yugoslavia in 1953 following the isolation of TBE virus which caused a severe epidemic that year. Until now the following viruses have been proven to circulate in the country: tick-borne encephalitis (TBE), Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF), Bhanja (BHA), sandfly fever (SF), Tahyna (TAH), Calovo (CVO), West Nile (WN), dengue (DEN), Jug Bogdanovac (JB), and Hantaviruses. TBE virus is endemic in the north-west part of the country, causing also epidemics in cyclical intervals. Its typical clinical picture is aseptic meningitis, but severe cases with paralysis have also been described. The bite of ticks is confirmed in about 80% of cases. CCF caused a small epidemic with ten clinical cases in Macedonia in 1976. Bhanja virus was isolated on the Dalmatian island of Brac in 1977, the antibody rate there, determined by the HI method, being about 31%. The first human disease in the world was caused by the Yugoslav Bhanja virus strain. Sandfly fever is still active in the country. The Naples type is prevailing and has proved hazardous for newcomers. Hantaviruses have been studied since 1980. They caused severe epidemics (1967, 1980, 1989) and sporadic cases all over the country. Three different strains are in circulation. Further studies are needed for the rest of the above mentioned viruses to learn more about their significance in human pathology. 相似文献

Geographical distribution of African freshwater fishes is discussed with emphasis on the effects of major continental features, hydrographic history, and Pleistocene climatic fluctuations. Differences in the modes of dispersal and biological interactions among various categories of fishes, ecological as well as phyletic, have also had marked effects on distribution.
The African continent can be divided into ten ichthyofaunal provinces. The geography of these provinces and composition of their fish faunas is briefly described. The paper concludes with a consideration of the faunistic relationships of African lakes with endemic fishes. 相似文献

The pale grass blue butterfly Zizeeria maha has been used as an environmental indicator to evaluate the biological impacts of the Fukushima nuclear accident. A high morphological abnormality rate (AR) of this butterfly was detected in 2011 from radioactively contaminated areas at 37–38°N. However, the geographical AR distribution has not been documented for the entirety of northeastern Japan. Additionally, the geographical distribution of the wing color pattern modification rate (MR) of temperature‐shock type remains undocumented. Here, we collected adult butterflies from many localities in northeastern Japan in 2014 and examined the local AR and MR. Both AR and MR were generally low throughout the 44 local populations surveyed. Latitudinal AR and MR distributions indicated a gap zone at approximately 39°N. The mean AR and the mean MR of the populations south of the gap zone were low (AR = 3.0%, MR = 1.1%), whereas those of the northern populations were relatively high (AR = 10.6%, MR =10.3%). Logistic regression analyses revealed that abnormalities and modifications were associated with temperature‐related variables. We conclude that abnormalities and modifications are generally rare, but that their rates are higher in the northern populations than in the southern ones. These results, along with evidence from other studies, strongly suggest that the high AR detected in 2011 from contaminated areas was induced by anthropogenic radioactive mutagens. This study presents a basic dataset of the current wildlife state of Z. maha in northeastern Japan, which facilitates a future use of this butterfly species as an environmental indicator. 相似文献

Natural variability in water flow is an inherent feature of river ecosystems, but many rivers in the world have been dammed, altering the flow regime and leading to ecosystem degradation. Dam reoperation to maintain environmental flows has been proposed for ecosystem and biodiversity improvement. Reoperation requires an understanding of flow alteration due to dam operations. However, knowledge of natural flow regimes and their degree of alteration remain poor in Japan. The Japanese islands extend from the sub-Arctic to the subtropics with four seasons and thus are considered to show high spatial and temporal variation in flow regime and alterations caused by those variations. We examined the spatial and temporal dependency of flow alteration by flood-control dams in Japan. We confirmed that flood-control dams reduced the rate of change in discharge and peak discharge and that such dams fulfilled their primary role of preventing flood disaster by reducing and delaying flooding. However, other flow characteristics, such as high- and low-flow frequency and duration, were also altered. We demonstrated that the magnitude, frequency, duration, and seasonality of high and low flows in undammed flow regimes differed with latitude and that discharge alteration was spatially and temporally dependent, presumably because dam operation responded to the inherent differences in seasonal flow variability at different latitudes. 相似文献
