The Paris Agreement is a multinational initiative to combat climate change by keeping a global temperature increase in this century to 2°C above preindustrial levels while pursuing efforts to limit the increase to 1.5°C. Until recently, ensembles of coupled climate simulations producing temporal dynamics of climate en route to stable global mean temperature at 1.5 and 2°C above preindustrial levels were not available. Hence, the few studies that have assessed the ecological impact of the Paris Agreement used ad‐hoc approaches. The development of new specific mitigation climate simulations now provides an unprecedented opportunity to inform ecological impact assessments. Here we project the dynamics of all known emperor penguin (Aptenodytes forsteri) colonies under new climate change scenarios meeting the Paris Agreement objectives using a climate‐dependent‐metapopulation model. Our model includes various dispersal behaviors so that penguins could modulate climate effects through movement and habitat selection. Under business‐as‐usual greenhouse gas emissions, we show that 80% of the colonies are projected to be quasiextinct by 2100, thus the total abundance of emperor penguins is projected to decline by at least 81% relative to its initial size, regardless of dispersal abilities. In contrast, if the Paris Agreement objectives are met, viable emperor penguin refuges will exist in Antarctica, and only 19% and 31% colonies are projected to be quasiextinct by 2100 under the Paris 1.5 and 2 climate scenarios respectively. As a result, the global population is projected to decline by at least by 31% under Paris 1.5 and 44% under Paris 2. However, population growth rates stabilize in 2060 such that the global population will be only declining at 0.07% under Paris 1.5 and 0.34% under Paris 2, thereby halting the global population decline. Hence, global climate policy has a larger capacity to safeguard the future of emperor penguins than their intrinsic dispersal abilities.  相似文献

Background

Progress toward meeting Millennium Development Goal 5, which aims to improve maternal and reproductive health outcomes, is behind schedule. This is despite ever increasing volumes of official development aid targeting the goal, calling into question the distribution and efficacy of aid. The 2005 Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness represented a global commitment to reform aid practices in order to improve development outcomes, encouraging a shift toward collaborative aid arrangements which support the national plans of aid recipient countries (and discouraging unaligned donor projects).

Methods and Findings

We conducted a systematic review to summarise the evidence of the impact on MDG 5 outcomes of official development aid delivered in line with Paris aid effectiveness principles and to compare this with the impact of aid in general on MDG 5 outcomes. Searches of electronic databases identified 30 studies reporting aid-funded interventions designed to improve maternal and reproductive health outcomes. Aid interventions appear to be associated with small improvements in the MDG indicators, although it is not clear whether changes are happening because of the manner in which aid is delivered. The data do not allow for a meaningful comparison between Paris style and general aid. The review identified discernible gaps in the evidence base on aid interventions targeting MDG 5, notably on indicators MDG 5.4 (adolescent birth rate) and 5.6 (unmet need for family planning).

Discussion

This review presents the first systematic review of the impact of official development aid delivered according to the Paris principles and aid delivered outside this framework on MDG 5 outcomes. Its findings point to major gaps in the evidence base and should be used to inform new approaches and methodologies aimed at measuring the impact of official development aid.  相似文献

Between 1975 to 2011, aphid Relative Growth Rates (RGR) were modelled as a function of mean outdoor temperature and host plant phenology. The model was applied to the grain aphid Sitobion avenae using data on aphid counts in winter wheat at two different climate regions in France (oceanic climate, Rennes (western France); continental climate, Paris). Mean observed aphid RGR was higher in Paris compared to the Rennes region. RGR increased with mean temperature, which is explained by aphid reproduction, growth and development being dependent on ambient temperature. From the stem extension to the heading stage in wheat, there was either a plateau in RGR values (Rennes) or an increase with a maximum at heading (Paris) due to high intrinsic rates of increase in aphids and also to aphid immigration. From the wheat flowering to the ripening stage, RGR decreased in both regions due to the low intrinsic rate of increase in aphids and high emigration rate linked to reduced nutrient quality in maturing wheat. The model validation process showed that the fitted models have more predictive power in the Paris region than in the Rennes region.  相似文献

The study deals with the annual cycles of biomass, productivity and necrosis of the perennial wetland species Carex vesicaria and Phalaris arundinacea, and with the main growth parameters during the first part of 1979. The amplitudes of biomass variation differ, but other features of the development are largely the same. To detect the various climatic factors which determine the above-ground biomass dynamics, a procedure of multiple stepwise regression has been used. Regressions for annual trend and variation in production were obtained. They provide coarse models, which may be improved by including translocation to belowground organs.Nomenclature follows P. 滇重楼作为我国西南地区的道地药材,具有抗肿瘤、止血、免疫调节和镇静镇痛等药用价值。然而,对滇重楼的系统位置,分类学者各持不同意见,而且多年来人们对滇重楼过度地采挖,使各地野生资源遭到不同程度的破坏。本文综述了近年来滇重楼的研究现状,主要包括分类与系统、化学成分和药理活性、繁殖生物学以及遗传多样性等方面的工作;同时,提出了存在的问题和建议。将为今后更深入地开展滇重楼优质种质引种驯化,实现种质资源多样性的合理保护和可持续利用提供参考。  相似文献

Securing access to energy for a growing population under the international commitment of reduction of greenhouse emissions requires increasing the contribution of renewable sources to the global share. Hydropower energy, which accounts for >80% of green energy, is experiencing a boom fostered by international investment mainly in developing countries. This boom could be further accelerated by the recent climate agreement reached in Paris. Despite its flexibility, hydropower production entails social, economic and ecological risks that need to be carefully considered before investing in the development of potentially thousands of planned hydropower projects worldwide. This is especially relevant given the weak or nonexistent legislation that regulates hydropower project approval and construction in many countries. I highlight the need for adequate policy to provide the Paris Agreement with new financial and planning mechanisms to avoid further and irreversible damage to freshwater ecosystem services and biodiversity.  相似文献

The study of saponins from the genus Paris (Trilliaceae) has led to the isolation of over 70 steroidal saponins. Their distributions in different species are summarised and possible patterns in the modifications of the aglycone moiety, based on a biosynthetic pathway for steroidal saponins, were reviewed in this study. The chemotaxonomic value of these secondary metabolites has been evaluated, and it is suggested that Paris thibetica, Paris vietnamensis, Paris delavayi and Paris pseudothibetica, which contain more active saponins, could be an ideal substitution material for Paris polyphylla Smith var. chinensis, and Paris polyphylla Smith var. yunnanensis. Distribution of the same types of saponins amongst the Trilliaceae suggests a close relationship between the Trillium and Paris.  相似文献

滇重楼是云南传统的道地药材。由于种苗繁育困难和生长周期长,重楼的推广种植多年来未能取得突破。滇重楼的"多年栽培,分期采收"技术是将滇重楼根茎按用途分为药用部分与种苗部分,采收时,仅采收药用部分,种苗部分(带顶芽的根茎)继续生长发育,而不是将整个根茎全部采收作为商品药材。通过考察滇重楼须根比率的月度变化规律及3年的根茎生长量,进行采收时间和经济效益分析。结果表明:实施滇重楼"多年栽培,分期采收"技术间隔时间以3年为宜,每年每公顷收益为11.25万~33.0万元,采收时间以12月至翌年3月份为宜。  相似文献

Summary Two years of clinical experience on allergic patients strictly related to tree and grass pollen counts have been reported. In order to carry out investigations, the Institut Pasteur in Paris utilized a questionnaire on which symptoms and drug scores have been daily reported. Together with the pollen concentration, temperature variations and rainfalls have been checked. These investigations pointed out a great variability of the factors taken into account; thus, the way of forecasting allergic symptons seems difficult to find.  相似文献

With the exception of one paper published in 1929, works in vertebrate paleohistology start to be published in the journal in 1968 and are published ever since. Similarly, the first paper in vertebrate paleobiochemistry is published in the journal in 1987 and the field is regularly covered ever since. The relatively late publication of paleohistological researches in the journal is all the more surprizing because there are evidences now that several laboratories at the Paris Museum heavily invested in paleohistology already in the 1870–1890th and gathered extensive collections of thin sections, but very few publications followed. The scientific and contextual causes of the late development of the paleohistological publications in the journal are briefly analyzed. It appears that its history is a fairly faithful reflection of several changing scientific and historical constraints which framed not only french paleontology (and notably the “Paris school”) but french biology as well during the XXth century.  相似文献

为检测用草河车治疗胃癌前病变(precancerous lesions of gastric cancer,PLGC)不同阶段模型大鼠过程中MUC1和CK18基因(细胞角蛋白基因)的表达变化,在48只大鼠采用关木通乙醇提取物灌胃制造PLGC模型的过程中,从第13周开始,每2周随机抽取6只大鼠,3只直接解剖作为模型组,3只用草河车灌胃治疗2周后解剖作为治疗组,另取10只正常大鼠用生理盐水灌胃作为空白对照组,观察各组病变程度,提取血液和胃黏膜组织后用Real-time PCR技术分别检测胃癌标志基因MUC1和CK18在治疗前后的表达变化。结果显示,治疗前,随着大鼠胃癌病变逐步加重,血浆中CK18表达水平逐渐升高,MUC1则在胃黏膜组织逐渐降低表达,用草河车提取液灌胃后,治疗组中各级病变的MUC1表达相对于模型组均有不同程度的上调,且前期比后期上调更明显;而CK18的表达均有不同程度的下调,且后期比前期下调更明显。这些结果说明,MUC1和CK18在胃癌发生和发展过程中起重要作用,而草河车的某些成分可能通过调控它们的表达来缓解病变。  相似文献

The suitability of a mixture of plaster of Paris and charcoal as a means to regulate the moisture content of coffee berries and the relative humidity (moisture conditions) of the rearing environment and its impact on rearing the coffee berry borer (CBB), Hypothenemus hampei (Ferrari) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), was evaluated under laboratory conditions using two types of coffee. Coffee berries were kept individually in vials with a 1-cm layer of the mixture, and the fresh weight of the berries was assessed, as well as the penetration of CBB into the berries, its survival, and its progeny production over a period of 55 days. Significantly higher survival and progeny production was achieved when using the mixture regardless of the coffee type. Compared to the vials without plaster of Paris/charcoal, a six- to sevenfold increase in survivorship of the F1 was recorded when using plaster of Paris/charcoal and in the latter treatment berries harboured on average more than 100 individuals, whereas only 1.7 in the vials without plaster of Paris.  相似文献
