In a prior study with high level gymnasts we could demonstrate that the neuromuscular activation pattern during the “whip-like” leg acceleration phases (LAP) in accelerating movement sequences on high bar, primarily runs in a consecutive succession from the bar (punctum fixum) to the legs (punctum mobile). The current study presents how the neuromuscular activation is represented during movement sequences that immediately follow the LAP by the antagonist muscle chain to generate an effective transfer of momentum for performing specific elements, based on the energy generated by the preceding LAP. Thirteen high level gymnasts were assessed by surface electromyography during high performance elements on high bar and parallel bars. The results show that the neuromuscular succession runs primarily from punctum mobile towards punctum fixum for generating the transfer of momentum. Additionally, further principles of neuromuscular interactions between the anterior and posterior muscle chain during such movement sequences are presented. The findings complement the understanding of neuromuscular activation patterns during rotational movements around fixed axes and will help to form the basis of more direct and better teaching methods regarding earlier optimization and facilitation of the motor learning process concerning fundamental movement requirements.  相似文献

According to the “punctum fixum–punctum mobile model” that was introduced in prior studies, for generation of the most effective intentional acceleration of a body part the intersegmental neuromuscular onset succession has to spread successively from the rotation axis (punctum fixum) toward the body part that shall be accelerated (punctum mobile). The aim of the present study was to investigate whether this principle is, indeed, fundamental for any kind of efficient rotational accelerations in general, independent of the kind of movements, type of rotational axis, the current body position, or movement direction. Neuromuscular onset succession was captured by surface electromyography of relevant muscles of the anterior and posterior muscle chain in 16 high-level gymnasts during intentional accelerating movement phases while performing 18 different gymnastics elements (in various body positions to forward and backward, performed on high bar, parallel bars, rings and trampoline), as well as during non-sport specific pivot movements around the longitudinal axis. The succession patterns to generate the acceleration phases during these movements were described and statistically evaluated based on the onset time difference between the muscles of the corresponding muscle chain. In all the analyzed movement phases, the results clearly support the hypothesized succession pattern from punctum fixum to punctum mobile. This principle was further underlined by the finding that the succession patterns do change their direction running through the body when the rotational axis (punctum fixum) has been changed (e.g., high bar or rings [hands] vs. floor or trampoline [feet]). The findings improve our understanding of intersegmental neuromuscular coordination patterns to generate intentional movements most efficiently. This could help to develop more specific methods to facilitate such patterns in particular contexts, thus allowing for shorter motor learning procedures of context-specific key movement sequences in different disciplines of sports, as well as during non-sport specific movements.  相似文献

The study of ontogenetic and morphological changes in different species of the brachiopod genus Caryona COOPER (Terebratulidae) from the Lower Callovian‐Lower Oxfordian of northern France shows a succession (and an interference) of processes which vary according to the characters studied. This is an example of “mosaic evolution”;. The ontogenetic changes result from heterochrony, especially acceleration and hypermorphism. The main phylogenetic tendency is peramorphosis in most characters. This evolutionary pattern agrees with phyletic gradualism.

Moreover, analysis of the internal characters demonstrates the limited value of these in discrimination of the various genera.  相似文献

Locomotion on complex substrata can be expressed in a plane by two geometric components of body movement: linear locomotion and rotational locomotion. This study examined pure rotation by analysing the geometry of leg movements and stepping patterns during the courtship turns of male Blattella germanica. Strict rotation or translation by an insect requires that each side of the body cover equal distance with respect to the substrate. There are three mechanisms by which the legs can maintain this equality: frequency of stepping, magnitude of the leg arcs relative to the body and the degree to which legs flex and extend during locomotion. During the courtship behaviour of Blattella germanica selected males executed turns involving body rotation along with leg movements in which the legs on the outside of the turn swung through greater average arcs than those on the inside of the turn. This difference should have resulted in a translation component. However, legs on the inside of the turn compensated by flexion and extension movements which were greater than those of opposing legs. The net effect was that both sides of the body covered equal average ground. These cockroaches used a wide variety of stepping combinations to effect rotation. The frequency of these combinations was compared to an expected frequency distribution of stepping combinations and further to an expected frequency of these stepping combinations used for straight walking. These comparisons demonstrated a similarity between interleg coordination during straight walking and that during turning in place.  相似文献

Different functional roles for the hands have been demonstrated, however leg control is not as well understood. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate bilateral knee neuromuscular control to determine if the limb receiving greater attention would have more well-tuned control compared to an unattended limb. Surface electrodes were placed on seven muscles of each limb, before standing on two force platforms. Visual feedback was given of the forces and moments of the “focus limb,” but not the “unattended limb.” Static isometric forces were matched with their focus limb, requiring their unattended limb to push in the opposite direction, using a combination of forward–backward–medial–lateral shear forces while muscle activity was collected bilaterally. There was a significant main effect for limb task (p = 0.02), with the medial hamstrings being more specific (p = 0.001) while performing the unattended limb and the lateral hamstring being more well-tuned (p = 0.007) while performing the focus limb task. The focus limb’s medial and lateral gastrocnemius were principally active in the forwards direction, but only the unattended limb’s lateral gastrocnemius was active in the backwards direction. Findings suggest unique neuromuscular control strategies are used for the legs depending on limb task.  相似文献

Based on 261 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers, we analyzed 57 grapevine genotypes, consisting of 29 wild grapevines (Vitis vinifera subsp. sylvestris) prospected from the northwest part of Tunisia and 28 cultivated accessions (V. vinifera subsp. vinifera) maintained in the repository of the Arid Land Institute of Medenine (Tunisia). Pair-wise multilocus comparison with the ICVV SNP database allowed the identification of 13 cultivated genotypes, including ten synonymous groups with known Mediterranean or international varieties, three cases of color sports, and two misnomers. Genotypic analysis showed a high level of genetic diversity for both wild and cultivated groups. Multivariate and structure analyses clearly differentiated wild from cultivated grapevines and showed high average posterior probabilities of assignment to their group of origin. The clustering results largely supported the perceived classification and reflect that most of the present Tunisian cultivated varieties do not derive directly from the local wild populations but could correspond to materials introduced from different locations during historical times. Parentage analysis allowed the determination of the genetic origin of four Tunisian cultivars, “Garai”, “Jerbi” (from Kerkennah), “Mahdoui”, and “Reine de Vignes faux”, and showed that “Heptakilo” and “Planta Fina”, two old and widely distributed varieties in the Mediterranean basin, had an important role in the origin of Tunisian grapevines. The present study demonstrates the efficacy of SNP makers for germplasm characterization and genetic studies in grapevine.  相似文献

Skeleton and musculature of the metathorax and the abdominal nerve cord of Amphizoa lecontei (Coleoptera : Amphizoidae) Matthews were examined and compared to those of other members of Adephaga (Coleoptera). The following characters may be important for phylogenetic analysis. The narrow prescutal area and moderately developed mesophragma with distinctly separated median phragmal lobes in Amphizoa is considered as plesiomorphic, whereas the median phragmal lobes lying closely together or fused is a possible synapomorphy of Hygrobiidae and Dytiscidae. The short 1st axillary sclerite of Amphizoa may be an autapomorphy of the group. The weakly arched notum and the poorly developed metaphragma arc obviously the result of tendency towards flightlessness. The anepisternum meets the middle coxal cavity. The prosternal process does not reach the meta “sternum” (“sternum” = preepisternum + basisternum presternum + spinasternum 2). The specialized pro-meso-meta “sternal” articulation in Hygrobia and Dytiscidae is considered a synapomorphy of both groups. The amphizoid metafurca is distinctly reduced in size. Pouch-like anterolateral excavations are considered plesiomorphic. Strong dorsolateral and weak ventrolateral projections of the metafurca may be a synapomorphy of Hygrobiidae and Dytiscidae. The hind legs of Amphizoa are not adapted for swimming, except for very sparse fringes of thin setae. Swimming hind legs are considered as a synapomorphy of Hygrobiidae and Dytiscidae. The main flight muscles were degenerated in all specimens of Amphizoa examined. Absence of muscle (M) 65 may be autapomorphic for Amphizoidae. Presence of M 72 is a symplesiomorphy of Amphizoidae and Dytiscidae. M 81 and M 83 arc absent. The strong M 82 is considered as plesiomorphic. The moderate size of M 85 is connected with the lack of swimming ability. The elongate abdominal nerve cord in Amphizoa points towards a sistergroup relationship between Hygrobiidae and Dytiscidae in both of which the abdominal nerve cord shows a high degree of fusion.The phylogenetic propositions of Baehr (1979), and Kavanaugh (1986), are not consistent with the interpretation provided herein, whereas the conclusions of Burmeister (1976), Ruhnau (1986) and Beutel (1986) seem to correlate well. Therefore, it is suggested that the Amphizoidae are the sistergroup of Hygrobiidae + Dytiscidae.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to compare reaction time, joint torque, rate of torque development, and magnitude of neuromuscular activation of lower-extremity muscles in elderly female fallers and nonfallers. Participants included 11, elderly, female fallers (71.3 ± 5.4 years) and twelve nonfallers (71.3 ± 6.2 years) who completed a fall risk questionnaire. Then, maximal, voluntary, isometric contractions of the knee and ankle muscles were performed in reaction to a visual cue to determine joint torque, rate of torque development, reaction time, and nervous activation of agonists and antagonists. Results indicated that significantly more fallers reported “dizziness upon rising”, “use of balance altering medications”, “stress or depression”, “not enough sleep”, “arthritis in lower body”, “chronic pain in lower body”, and “tiring easily while walking” (all P < 0.05). Normalized dorsiflexion and plantarflexion strength scores (summation of peak torque, rate of torque development and impulse) were lower in fallers than in nonfallers (P < 0.05). When summed across lower-extremity muscle groups, fallers demonstrated 19% lower peak torque and 29% longer motor time (P < 0.05). In conclusion, comprehensive fall risk screening and prevention programs should address both neuromuscular and non-muscular factors, and, weakness of the ankle dorsiflexors and plantarflexors should be further studied as potential contributors to falls in older adults.  相似文献

  1. The use of animal‐attached data loggers to quantify animal movement has increased in popularity and application in recent years. High‐resolution tri‐axial acceleration and magnetometry measurements have been fundamental in elucidating fine‐scale animal movements, providing information on posture, traveling speed, energy expenditure, and associated behavioral patterns. Heading is a key variable obtained from the tandem use of magnetometers and accelerometers, although few field investigations have explored fine‐scale changes in heading to elucidate differences in animal activity (beyond the notable exceptions of dead‐reckoning).
  2. This paper provides an overview of the value and use of animal heading and a prime derivative, angular velocity about the yaw axis, as an important element for assessing activity extent with potential to allude to behaviors, using “free‐ranging” Loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) as a model species.
  3. We also demonstrate the value of yaw rotation for assessing activity extent, which varies over the time scales considered and show that various scales of body rotation, particularly rate of change of yaw, can help resolve differences between fine‐scale behavior‐specific movements. For example, oscillating yaw movements about a central point of the body's arc implies bouts of foraging, while unusual circling behavior, indicative of conspecific interactions, could be identified from complete revolutions of the longitudinal axis.
  4. We believe this approach should help identification of behaviors and “space‐state” approaches to enhance our interpretation of behavior‐based movements, particularly in scenarios where acceleration metrics have limited value, such as for slow‐moving animals.

Behavioral mechanisms regulating the competitive relations between the red wood ant Formica aquilonia and the ground beetles Carabus regalis, Pterostichus melanarius, P. magus, P. oblongopunctatus, Harpalus smaragdinus, and Amara nitida were studied by artificially initiated collisions between living insects as well as with the use of imitation models. Members of different functional groups within an ant family (aphid-milkers, hunters, and guards) behaved differently towards beetles. Active ants were shown to respond selectively to different features of the possible competitors, such as coloration, the presence of “appendages” (legs, antennae), body symmetry, rate of movement, and scent. Field and laboratory experiments demonstrated the ability of beetles to avoid collisions with active ants. The scent of anthill material attracted ground beetles, which consumed dead ants. The gained individual experience may allow the beetles to use supplementary forage resources in the territories controlled by ants. The flexible tactical patterns facilitate spatial segregation of ground beetles and ants in the same territory and result in a more complete utilization of food resources.  相似文献

The famously diverse body coloration of cichlid fish serves communicative functions in mating and social interactions including competition for resources. Here, we examined the effects of a color pattern trait—the width of a yellow bar on a black body—on territorial competition in males and females of a color variant (“Ikola”) of the Lake Tanganyika cichlid Tropheus. First, measuring integumentary carotenoid concentrations in the yellow and black body regions, we established that wider yellow bars require more carotenoids allocated to body coloration. However, we also detected high carotenoid concentrations in the black body regions (>?100 µg/g fresh skin), raising questions about the function of non-displayed integumentary carotenoids. Behavioral experiments showed that fish with wider bars were quicker to explore an unfamiliar area of the tank. In experiments including presentations of fish dummies, the bar width of ‘territorial’ dummies had no effect on the latency time which test fish took to intrude into the dummies’ territories. However, male test fish performed fewer aggressive acts against wide-barred than against narrow-barred dummy competitors. Our results suggest that intimidation by wide bars as well as correlations between bar width and explorative behavior may contribute to mediating success in territorial Tropheus “Ikola”.

The Cenomanian/Turonian boundary event has been fully documented from a series of localities between Flamborough Head in Humberside and Marham in Norfolk. The carbon isotope excursion can be identified and extrapolated to all the studied sections using bed‐by‐bed correlation. Evidence from studies of the isotope data, trace element geochemistry, and the micropalaeontology are presented. The famous “Black Band” is seen to change laterally into a “red” horizon and then a “green” horizon when traced southwards. This appears to represent the “feather‐edge” of the anoxic event when traced towards a palaeo‐high which is located in the region of the Wash. All the events, so‐identified, can be correlated with the A. plenus Marl succession in southern England.  相似文献

Post-partum progesterone secretion, oestrus, and conception were monitored in two groups of eight swamp buffalo cows which were fed at “low” or “high” levels from 12 weeks before until 36 weeks after calving. Calf birth weights and pre-weaning mortality were not affected significantly by nutritional treatment, but the average growth rates of calves from birth to weaning at 26 weeks of age were greater (P<0.01) at the high (0.39 kg/day) than at the low (0.26 kg/day) feeding level. In five cows from each group which reared calves to weaning, average post-partum intervals to first oestrus were 190 and 144 days (P<0.10), and average post-partum intervals to conception were 222 and 169 days (P<0.05), at the low and high feeding levels, respectively. Plasma progesterone profiles indicated that normal post-partum luteal function at both feeding levels was commonly preceded by transient corpora lutea with subnormal progesterone secretion. Mean body weights at conception did not differ significantly between the two groups, suggesting that earlier post-partum conception in cows at the high feeding level was associated with their lower body weight loss and/or their faster body weight recovery after calving.  相似文献

Carbon monoxide (CO) acts competitively towards oxygen when the latter is taken up in respiration by cytochrome aa3-containing proteoliposomes, both in the presence of p-trifluoromethoxy carbonyl cyanide phenylhydrazone and valinomycin (deenergized state) and in their absence (energized state). At high levels of CO, the double reciprocal plots (1v vs. 1[O2]) in the energized and deenergized states are parallel, i.e. energization acts “anti-competitively” towards oxygen, and the “respiratory control ratio” decreases as the oxygen concentration decreases.2. Azide acts non-competitively towards cytochrome c when the latter is oxidized by cytochrome aa3-containing proteoliposomes both in the energized and deenergized (plus p-trifluoromethoxy carbonyl cyanide phenylhydrazone and valinomycin) conditions. At low azide concentrations the apparent Ki for azide is unaffected by energization, but at high azide levels the Ki increases in energized liposomes, i.e. the “respiratory control ratio” decreases as the azide concentration increases.3. It is concluded that the inhibitor experiments are consistent with but do not prove the concept that the oxidase molecules in a single vesicle are responding to a single “energization state” or set of electrochemical gradients. In recent decades, the take-off mechanisms of flying animals have received much attention in insect flight initiation. Most of previous works have focused on the jumping mechanism, which is the most common take-off mechanism found in flying animals. Here, we presented that the rhinoceros beetle, Trypoxylus dichotomus, takes offwithout jumping. In this study, we used 3-Dimensional (3D) high-speed video techniques to quantitatively analyze the wings and body kinematics during the initiation periods of flight. The details of the flapping angle, angle of attack of the wings and the roll, pitch and yaw angles of the body were investigated to understand the mechanism of take-off in T. dichotomus. The beetle took off gradually with a small velocity and small acceleration. The body kinematic analyses showed that the beetle exhibited stable take-off. To generate high lift force, the beetle modulated its hind wing to control the angle of attack; the angle of attack was large during the upstroke and small during the downstroke. The legs of beetle did not contract and strongly release like other insects. The hind wing could be con- sidered as a main source of lift for heavy beetle.  相似文献

The aims of this study were:
1. To study the transfer of energy between the high bar and the gymnast.
2. To develop criteria from the utilisation of high bar elasticity and the utilisation of muscle capacity to assess the effectiveness of a movement solution.
3. To study the influence of varying segment movement upon release parameters.
For these purposes a model of the human body attached to the high bar (high bar–human body model) was developed. The human body was modelled using a 15-segment body system. The joint-beam element method (superelement) was employed for modelling the high bar. A superelement consists of four rigid segments connected by joints (two Cardan joints and one rotational–translational joint) and springs (seven rotation springs and one tension–compression spring). The high bar was modelled using three superelements. The input data required for the high bar–human body model were collected with video-kinematographic (50 Hz) and dynamometric (500 Hz) techniques. Masses and moments of inertia of the 15 segments were calculated using the data from the Zatsiorsky et al. (1984) model. There are two major phases characteristic of the giant swing prior to dismounts from the high bar. In the first phase the gymnast attempts to supply energy to the high bar–human body system through muscle activity and to store this energy in the high bar. The difference between the energy transferred to the high bar and the reduction in the total energy of the body could be adopted as a criterion for the utilisation of high bar elasticity. The energy previously transferred into the high bar is returned to the body during the second phase. An advantageous increase in total body energy at the end of the exercise could only be obtained through muscle energy supply. An index characterising the utilisation of muscle capacity was developed out of the difference between the increase in total body energy and the energy returned from the high bar. A delayed and initially slow but even reduction of hip and shoulder angles provided more advantageous release conditions. The total body energy could be improved by up to 15%, the vertical CM release velocity by up to 10% and the angular momentum by up to 35%.  相似文献

The gill ctenidium growth tip of the lamellibranch mollusc Aequipecten irradians recapitulates the temporal development of ciliated gill filaments and related structures in a spatial fashion. This “meristematic” relationship has allowed a study of basal body formation and ciliogenesis in adjacent cells of gill filament papillae at stages of progressively more advanced relative development. Basal bodies appear to originate quite rapidly, subsequent to the appearance of a complex of dense granules, quite reminiscent of the “condensation forms” or “procentriole precursors” typically seen in vertebrate ciliogenesis. Unlike basal body generation in higher forms, that in Aequipecten shows no obvious organized intermediate stages. During ciliation, randomly-oriented, nearly complete procentrioles are found concomitantly with actively-functioning basal bodies. Cilia formation in more advanced, already-ciliated cells is again preceded by the presence of granular complexes. Ciliogenesis in this mollusc thus shares with certain lower forms the property of very rapid basal body formation but, like many higher forms, it is preceded by the formation of a granular precursor complex, presumably consisting of particulate microtubule protein.  相似文献

Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors are some of the most studied synaptic proteins; however, many questions remain that can only be answered using single molecule approaches. Here we report our results from single α7 and neuromuscular junction type nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in mammalian cell membranes. By labeling the receptors with fluorophore-labeled bungarotoxin, we can image individual receptors and count the number of bungarotoxin-binding sites in receptors expressed in HEK 293 cells. Our results indicate that there are two bungarotoxin-binding sites in neuromuscular junction receptors, as expected, and five in α7 receptors, clarifying previous uncertainty. This demonstrates a valuable technique for counting subunits in membrane-bound proteins at the single molecule level, with nonspecialized optics and with higher signal/noise ratios than previous fluorescent protein-based techniques.  相似文献

Species of Mediterranean vegetation are known to regenerate directly after fire. The phenomenon of autosuccession (direct regeneration) has been found to be often combined with an increase of species richness during the first years after fire due to the high abundance of short-lived herbaceous plants facilitated by plentiful nutrients and light. The high degree of vegetation resilience, which is expressed in terms of autosuccession, has been explained by the selective pressure of fire in historic times. According to existing palaeoecological data, however, the Pinus halepensis forests in the Ricote Mountains (Province of Murcia, SE Spain) did not experience substantial fire impact before the presence of man nor are they especially fire-prone today. Therefore, we studied post-fire regeneration to find out if direct succession is present or if species from pre-fire vegetation are absent during the post-fire regeneration stages. Patterns of succession were deduced from observations made in sample plots on sites of a known regeneration age as well as in adjacent unburnt areas. The results of the vegetation analyses, including a Detrended Correspondence Analysis, indicate that Pinus halepensis forest regeneration after fire resembles autosuccession. As regards the presence of woody species, there is a high percentage similarity on north (83%) and south (70%) facing slopes during the first year after fire vs. reference areas which is due, for example, to direct regeneration of the resprouting Quercus coccifera or seeders like Pinus halepensis or Fumana laevipes. However, if herbaceous species are included in the comparison, the similarity on north-facing sites decreases (to 53%) with the presence of additional species, mainly ruderals like Anagallis arvensis or Reseda phyteuma, and even woody species on the burnt plots. This effect indicates “enhanced autosuccession”, which was not found on south-facing sites where overall species richness was very high irrespective of the impact of fire. Locally we found limited regeneration of some species, for example Pinus halepensis at high altitudes (1000 m), even 22 years after fire. As we assume that historical fires did not play an important role in the area and direct succession is present nevertheless, our results support the theory that autosuccession is not a process restricted to fire-prone areas. Fire has been only one of several selective forces since human settlement that probably led to a set of species pre-adapted against recurrent disturbance.  相似文献
