Plants that agree with those provisionally referred to as Entonema alariae Jaasund (nom.prov.) have a direct type of life history. The swarmers from the plurilocular sporangia germinate and develop directly into new, small tufts. This development takes place under cold (4°C) as well as under warm (15°C) long day (LD) conditions in a medium with liver infusion. Erect, branched, uniseriate filaments develop in a medium without liver infusion. The laterals of these filaments are transformed to uniseriate, plurilocular sporangia under cold LD conditions. A lateral true hair has been observed on the erect filaments. Such filaments resemble those of the genus Gononema and the plant in question is, therefore, named Gononema alariae sp.nov. Ectocarpus aecidioides Rosenvinge = Entonema aecidioides (Rosenvinge) Kylin also has a direct type of life history. In a medium without liver infusion it occasionally develops erect filaments. These filaments also resemble those of the genus Gononema and the combination Gononema aecidioides (Rosenvinge) comb.nov. is, therefore, proposed.  相似文献

Phenology, morphology, life history and responses to different temperature and photoperiod conditions were studied in Japanese Stypocaulon durum (Ruprecht) Okamura. Erect thalli of the species were collected year-round, but the mature thalli forming either uniloc-ular sporangia or two different types of plurilocular structures (evidently gametangia) on separate thalli were found only in winter. ln culture, an isomorphic life history is suggested for the species, alternating between a sporophyte forming unilocular sporangia and gam-etophytes forming plurilocular macro- (female) and micro- (male) gametangia. Contents of unilocular sporangia were not released, but germinated in situ, developing into erect thalli forming plurilocular gametangia. Macrogametangia released aplanogametes (oospores), but male gametangia appeared to be non-functional, although flagellated cells were once formed in the loc-uli. This is the first report of plurilocular gametangia in the species. Although the species grew well and matured under considerably lower temperature conditions than European Stypocaulon scoparium (L.) Sauvageau, its temperature requirements showed similarity to northwestern Atlantic Stypocaulon species. This supports the notion that northwestern Atlantic Stypocaulon is conspecific with S. durum.  相似文献

Kuckuckia spinosa and Kuckuckia kylinii are distinguished mainly by the presence of basally sheathed true hairs in the latter. However, culture studies have shown that the sheath is an ephemeral structure as it splits, breaks off, and the basal remnant disintegrates and disappears eventually. Therefore, Kuckuckia kylinii gradually develops into Kuckuckia spinosa , also with regard to filament diameter. Consequently, the two species are merged with priority to K. spinosa. The life history is of the direct type as the swarmers from the plurilocular sporangia develop by immediate differentiation into plants similar to the mother plant. It has been confirmed experimentally that this species belongs to the warm temperate Mediterranean-Atlantic group with a southern reproductive boundary close to 25°C and a northern reproductive boundary close to the 10°C summer isotherms. This is the first report of this species from the Canary Islands.  相似文献

Colpomenia sinuosa (Mertens ex Roth) Derbès and Solier (Scytosiphonaceae, Phaeophyceae) is a common species on the rocky intertidal shores of the Azores, where reproductive gametophytes occur throughout the year. Life‐history studies of this species were carried out in culture, and both sexual and asexual reproduction were observed. Anisogamous gametes fused to form zygotes. The zygotes gave rise to a filamentous prostrate sporophyte generation bearing unilocular sporangia, under both short‐day and long‐day conditions at 15 and 22°C, and to both unilocular and plurilocular sporangia, under the lower temperature condition. Unispores developed into gametophytes, and plurispores gave rise to filamentous sporophytes. Asexual reproduction was carried out by unfused female gametes and asexual plurispores produced from the same gametophyte. Unfused gametes developed into filamentous prostrate sporophytes producing unilocular sporangia in both culture conditions, and unispores released from the sporangia gave rise to gametophytes. Asexual plurispores from field gametophytes, under both culture conditions, developed directly into new gametophytes. The species exhibited three types of life history: a heteromorphic, diplohaplontic; a heteromorphic, monophasic (both with alternation between the erect and filamentous prostrate thalli); and a monomorphic, monophasic.  相似文献

Pseudochorda gracilis sp. Nov. (Pseudochordacease, Laminariales) is described from the Japan Sea coast of Hokkaido/ the species is subtidal, epilithic and annual, appearing in spring and maturing in winter. Erect thalli grow solitary or in tufts on a small discoid holdfast. They are simple, cord-shaped and hollow, with inner hyphal filaments, cylindrical medullary cells and paraphyses consisting of 3–6 cells. Hair tufts are observed only in young thalli. Unilocular sporangia are sessile and narrowly ovate. In culture, P. gracilis shows a heteromorphic life history with oogamy, characteristic of the order Laminariales. Gametophytes are dioecious and dimorphic. Gametophytes mature under lower temperature conditions (usually below 10°C), and sporophytes mature under low temperature and short-day conditions (5°C, SD). The seasonal growth pattern of the species results from the photoperiod-temperature conditions controlling saprophyte maturation.  相似文献

Cultures of Climacosorus mediterraneus were established with material from Spitsbergen. This species has previously been reported from three widely separated geographic areas: the west Mediterranean, north-west France, and north Norway. Although adapted to temperatures near 0°C, the northern isolate grew well at 15°C which approximates the summer temperature of the southern habitats. The life history proved to be entirely asexual with successive generations bearing unilocular sporangia on the erect filaments and plurilocular sporangia infrequently on the prostrate system. Swarmers of the two reproductive organs gave rise to similar progeny. Chromosome counts revealed equal numbers in somatic cells and unilocular sporangia which substantiates the development observed. The absence of true hairs and the few longitudinal divisions, which only occur in connection with formation of unilocular sporangia and branches, suggest that C. mediterraneus should be assigned to the Pilayellaceae.  相似文献

Morphology of field material and life history in culture were studied in Scytosiphon canaliculatus (Setchell et Gardner) comb. nov. from northern Japan. Erect gametophytes of S. canaliculatus are cylindrical, tubular, up to 7 mm wide and 40 cm long, and without regular constrictions. S. canaliculatus has pronounced anisogamy and ascocysts accompanied with plurilocular gametangia. The life history of S. canaliculatus showed an alternation between erect gametophytes and crustose prostrate sporophytes bearing unilocular sporangia. Since field sporophytes of S. canaliculatus were found to be identical with Hapterophycus canaliculatus Setchell et Gardner (Ralfsiaceae, Phaeophyceae), it is proposed to transfer H. canaliculatus to the genus Scytosiphon. In the field, gametophytes with plurilocular gametangia appeared in spring and disappeared in summer. Sporophytes with unilocular sporangia were collected in late autumn and winter. Unilocular sporangia were produced at 15°C in short-day culture conditions and unispores developed into erect gametophytes at 5–15°C. It is suggested that the seasonal Occurrence of gametophytes in the field is due to the seasonal formation of unilocular sporangia, which is regulated by temperature and photoperiod.  相似文献

The vegetative morphology and life history of Halopteris filicina (Grateloup) Kutzing, collected from Korea, were examined in laboratory culture. Field plants attaining 3–5 cm in height were epilithic, tufted, yellowish-brown, and produced numerous erect axes with alternately distichous branches from compact basal discs. They were cultured under a 12:12 h LD photoperiod at 10°-C, 15°C and 20°C to observe the influence of temperature on reproduction. At 10°C plants grew only vegetatively, whereas at 15°C and 20°C they produced unilocular sporangia. Unispores released from sporangia developed into monoecious, anisogamous gametophytes that formed plurilocular female and male gametangia on the same lateral branches. The zygotes, by fusion of female macrogametes and male microgametes, developed into sporophytes bearing unilocular sporangia, whereas the unfused female gametes germinated parthenogenetically. This species was confirmed to have an isomorphic life history, basically similar to the other species of Sphacelariales.  相似文献

The life history of Pilayella littoralis f. rupincola from Washington was studied in culture using supplemented natural seawater media and various temperature, photoperiod, and light intensity regimes. Plants in nature exhibited characteristics typical for f. rupincola. Plants in culture, however, did not show the same morphological features, although they had a life history presumed typical for f. rupincola. Successive generations of plants in culture formed only unilocular sporangia. On the basis of morphological characters and the life history, Kylin elevated f. rupincola to species rank. Variation in morphology of both field collected and cultured specimens makes such recognition untenable. It is concluded that the type of life history alone is not adequate justification for the recognition of P. rupincola as a species, but the stability of the life history in various culture environments appears to warrant continued recognition of this taxon as a distinct form of P. littoralis, as originally proposed by J. E. Areschoug.  相似文献

Thraustochytrium is the type genus of the family Thraustochytriaceae in the class Labyrinthulomycetes. This genus is characterized by zoospore formation, namely, shape of the cell wall of sporangia and presence or absence of a proliferous body. However, there are several issues associated with the taxonomy of this genus, and these include polyphyletic taxa and overlapping of taxonomic features among species. In particular, the first and second species, T. proliferum and T. globosum, were described based on observations of the morphological features of natural samples in the absence of culture conditions. Before addressing the taxonomic issues associated with this genus, it is important to consider the taxonomic features of each species, i.e., the life history under culture conditions and the phylogenetic position. The objective of the present study was to isolate T. globosum, the second described species in the genus Thraustochytrium, from the type locality. We successfully isolated strain NBRC 112723, which exhibited characteristic features of T. globosum. Under culture conditions, strain NBRC 112723 exhibited taxonomic features observed in other thraustochytrid species. Our molecular phylogeny indicated that this strain isolated from the type locality was located in an unidentified thraustochytrid group; moreover, some strains located in this group exhibited characteristic features of strain NBRC 112723. We clearly distinguished T. globosum based on the taxonomic criteria used to classify the T. proliferum type species. Therefore, we propose the establishment of a new genus, Monorhizochytrium, for the species T. globosum in the family Thraustochytriaceae.  相似文献

The literature on cyatheaceous spore morphology relative to the presence of a perine layer is reviewed, and evidence based on a sodium-hydroxide assay is presented indicating that the outer scultpine layer in certain cyatheaceous spores is perine. Perine so defined characterizes Metaxya, paleotropical and certain neotropical species of Sphaeropteris, nearly all species of Alsophila, all species of Nephelea, and certain species of Trichipteris and Cyathea. It is lacking in Lophosoria, many species of Trichipteris and Cyathea, and all species of Cnemidaria. Two major patterns of spore number per sporangium in the family are reported. Lophosoria, Sphaeropteris, Trichipteris, Cyathea, Cnemidaria, and probably Metaxya are characterized by 64-spored sporangia, whereas most species of Alsophila and all species of Nephelea are characterized by 16-spored sporangia. The congruence of this generic distribution of sporangial-capacity types with Tryon's phyletic arrangement of cyatheaceous genera supports the naturalness of his system. The intrasporangial germination of spores retained in dehisced and dispersed sporangia supports the suggestion that decreased spore number per sporangium in Alsophila and Nephelea may relate to the role of the sporangia as dispersal units. The decreased number of spores per sporangium is associated with a trend toward increase in the number of sporangia per sores, with the highest known count approaching 1000 sporangia per sorus. The Alsophila-Nephelea evolutionary line has probably not been ancestral in the phylogeny of the more advanced groups of ferns.  相似文献

Compsonema minutum , the type species of the genus, shows two features which are characteristic for the Scytosiphonales: the presence of a single large lobed chloroplast per cell with a large pyrenoid in a pyrenoid sac, and a partly parenchymatous prostrate system morphologically similar to the knot filaments in the comparable thallus parts of, for example, Scytosiphon and Petalonia. The genus, therefore, finds a natural position in the Scytosiphonales.
The direct type of life history seems to dominate in the reproductive pattern as swarmers from the plurilocular sporangia develop without copulation into plants similar to the parental plant. One unilocular sporangium has been observed but the fate of the swarmers from this reproductive structure has not been determined. The fine structural background for the formation of overlapping wall elements has been investigated. Lacunae develop between the layers in the 2-layered wall and the outermost part of the wall gradually becomes electron dense. During growth the electron dense part breaks away to become separated from the rest of the wall in the area with lacunae.
The plasmodesmata in the transverse walls show a single membrane profile similar to for example Fucus , i.e. the pores provide continuity but lack desmotubules and ER.  相似文献

Parasitic bacteria of the genus Pasteuria are reported for three Anaplectus and four identified and several unidentified Plectus species found in eight countries in various habitats. The pasteurias from plectids agree in essential morphological characters of sporangia and endospores as well as in developmental cycle with those of the Pasteuria species and strains described from tylenchid nematodes, but appear to be mainly distinguished from these by absence of a distinct perisporium in the spores and the endospores obviously not being cup- or saucer-shaped. The wide range of measurements and morphological peculiarities of sporangia and endospores suggest that probably several Pasteuria species have to be distinguished as parasites in Plectidae. From an infected juvenile of an unidentified plectid species the 16S rRNA gene sequence of Pasteuria sp. was obtained. Substantial sequence divergence from described Pasteuria species and its phylogenetic position on molecular trees indicate that this Pasteuria sp. could be considered as a new species. Preliminary results of the analysis of DNA phylogeny of Pasteuria spp. and their nematode hosts provide evidence for incongruence of their phylogenetic history and of host switching events during evolution of the bacterial parasites.  相似文献

The plasmodial slime molds is the largest group in the phylum Amoebozoa. Its life cycle includes the plasmodial trophic stage and the spore‐bearing fruiting bodies. However, only a few species have their complete life cycle known in details so far. This study is the first reporting the morphogenesis of Didymium laxifilum and Physarum album. Spores, from field‐collected sporangia, were incubated into hanging drop cultures for viewing germination and axenic oat agar plates for viewing plasmodial development and sporulation. The spores of D. laxifilum and P. album germinated by method of V‐shape split and minute pore, respectively. The amoeboflagellates, released from spores, were observed in water film. The phaneroplasmodia of two species developed into a number of sporangia by subhypothallic type on oat agar culture. The main interspecific difference of morphogenesis was also discussed.  相似文献

The present paper reports on the study of French and Danish strains of Acinetospora crinita (Harvey) Kornmann and their responses in growth and reproduction to various combinations of temperature and salinity. The distribution of the species in both hemispheres may be explained by the temperature requirements for growth and reproduction. The limit at lower latitudes in both hemispheres is a lethal limit, at higher latitudes it is probably a growth and reproduction limit. Acinetospora crinita is a stenohaline species and only occurs in high salinity areas in Danish waters. This paper also discusses the status of the genus Acinetospora, which has been considered to be a phase in the life history of some Feldmannia and Hincksia species. We conclude that there are several characters that justify independent status at the genus and species level. The large variation in reproductive patterns is enigmatic and adds to the taxonomic confusion. In A. crinita various reproductive structures occur: megasporangia/acinetosporangia, unilocular sporangia (some are apomeiotic), monosporangia, plurilocular sporangia which are presured to be gametangia, and a strain is known from the United States with reproduction solely by fragmentation. The combination of reproductive structures appears to be unique to specific strains.  相似文献

The life history in culture of Akkesiphycus lubricus Yamada et Tanaka, an alga which has been placed in the Coilodesmaceae or the Punclariaceae, Dictysiphonales, was studied. In culture the species alternates between a microscopic filamentous gametophyte and a macroscopic polystichous sporophyte, a pattern common to the Dictyasiphonales and Laminariales. However, it has a unique anisogamous dioecious gametophyte. Fusions between mac-ro-gametes and micro-gametes were not observed, Macro-gametes or zygotes germinated, mostly developing into sporophytes that formed unilocular sporangia and the rest developed into reduced gametophytic flaments again. The gametophyte matures in 50C short-day conditions, corresponding to winter in Hokkaido. The sporophyte develops normally and matures only in low-temperature conditions irrespective of daylength. In regard to iits systematic position, Akkesiphycus lubricus is considered to have a closer relationship with the Laminariales than with the Dietyosiphonales in the following characters; lack of pyrenoids; early stages of parenchyma formation in the sporophyte; direct development of sporophytes from gametes or zygotes without forming a besal system zoospore becomes almost empty after germination by the migration of cell contents into a germ lube; formation of macro-gametangia by direct conversions of mother cells of mother cells of fertile branches; and micro-gametangia formed in clusters showing closeresemblance to the antheridia of Pseudochorda nagii (Tokida) Inagaki.  相似文献

An investigation of the life cycle of Caulochytrium gloeosporii Voos and Olive, a parasite of Gloeosporium, has confirmed the existence of an alternation of generations. Zoospores from sessile sporangia may develop vegetatively into similar sporangia or they may function as isogametes, fusing in pairs to produce cysts (zygotes) that give rise to slender-stalked aerial sporangia. Meiosis is believed to occur in the aerial sporangium, which at germination liberates eight asexual zoospores. The species is homothallic.  相似文献

Morphological and culture studies of Scytosiphon lomentaria (Lyngbye) Link and Microspongium gelatinosum Reinke (Scytosiphonaceae, Phaeophyceae) were undertaken on material collected on the Island of São Miguel, Azores, where both species were commonly found. Erect thalli of S. lomentaria collected in the field were up to 33 cm long and 2.3 mm wide, tubular, hollow, and commonly constricted at intervals. The plurilocular sporangia were positioned in continuous sori on the thallus surface. Ascocysts were present. In the field, M. gelatinosum formed crustose to slightly pulvinate plants, were spongy in texture, and dark brown to black in color, which were circular or irregularly spreading over several centimeters and firmly attached to the substratum. Sessile unilocular sporangia were located in sori on the crust surface. In culture S. lomentaria plurispores developed into Microspongium‐like crustose prostrate thalli that formed unilocular sporangia. Unispores developed into new erect thalli that formed plurilocular sporangia. Sexual reproduction was not observed. In culture, M. gelatinosum unispores developed into erect thalli identical with S. lomentaria. These results are similar to those reported for other areas and suggest the occurrence in the Azorean plants of a monophasic and heteromorphic life history, involving both entities studied.  相似文献
