We examined the winter survival of age-0 smallmouth bass,Micropterus dolomieu, in lakes at their northern limit of distribution in New Brunswick, Canada. Pre- and post-winter collections over a 3 year period suggested the smallest individuals, <50 mm total length, died during winter under ice. Experiments with wild, age-0 smallmouth bass held in lakes demonstrated a size-dependent survival where smaller individuals had greater survival with an increasing temperature of exposure, but the largest individuals had reduced survival at warmer temperatures. Survivors lost 22–54% of pre-winter energy reserves measured as ash-free dry weight, which was similar to wild individuals captured in spring. Body size at the onset of winter affects survival, but it also appears that temperature interacting with a suite of environmental and biological factors affect changes in energy use and therefore survival of age-0 smallmouth bass under ice in winter.  相似文献

Environmental conditions during early life can have a profound impact on developmental trajectory and ultimately ecological fitness of individuals. Therefore, from a conservation perspective it is vital to understand the longer-term implications of early phenotypic development on survival. In this study, we examined the effects of temperature (maintained at 16°C or ambient river temperature), prey condition (live or dead Artemia) and incubation method (tumbling jar or natural hatching over substrate) on the routine or standard metabolic rate (RMR, SMR), maximum metabolic rate (MMR), factorial aerobic scope, energy density (ED), whole body triglyceride concentration (TG), growth and mortality rate of age-0 lake sturgeon. Our results demonstrated that fish fed live artemia had significantly lower ED, growth and high mortality rates than those fed dead artemia at 32 days post-fertilisation (dpf) (p < .001). However, at 133 dpf fish fed live artemia showed higher MMR and no difference in ED, TG and growth rate compared to those fed dead prey during early life history. The present study showed that inclusion of live prey at the onset of exogenous feeding may be considered to promote a more natural phenotypic development in larval lake sturgeon.  相似文献

Anthropogenic water management projects and facilities that alter the local and regional hydrology of riverine environments greatly influence the behavior, physiology, and survival of native fishes. To mitigate for losses of native fishes at these structures, many are outfitted with fish-exclusion screens to reduce entrainment. The effect of fish size and age on behavior near fish screens, however, is largely unknown. Therefore, we tested two size classes of juvenile green sturgeon (Acipenser medirostris; small, early juveniles: 9.2 ± 0.2 cm fork length [FL], 6.9 ± 0.3 g; intermediate juveniles: 18.8 ± 0.2 cm FL, 36.9 ± 0.8 g) near fish-exclusion screens in a laboratory swimming flume. Although size was a significant factor influencing the way in which fish contacted the screens (i.e., proportion of body contacts, p = 2.5 × 10?9), it did not significantly influence the number of times fish contacted screens or the amount of time fish spent near screens. We also compared the performance of these two size classes to that of older and larger sturgeon that were tested previously (29.6 ± 0.2 cm FL, 147.1 ± 3.1 g), and documented a clear difference in the behavior of the fish that resulted in disparities in how the large fish contacted screens relative to small- or intermediate-sized juveniles (p = 0.005, 5.4 × 10?4, respectively). Our results further our understanding of how ontogeny affects fish behavior near anthropogenic devices, and are informative for managers seeking to identify the most susceptible size and age class of juvenile green sturgeon to water-diversion structures to potentially develop size-specific conservation strategies.  相似文献

Lake sturgeon, Acipenser fulvescens, are considered threatened or endangered throughout most of their North American Range. Current hatchery rearing for re-stocking programs utilise conventional methods with little to no understanding of the relationship between rearing conditions and the development of the hypothalamic-pituitary-interrenal (HPI) stress axis. In the present study we examined the effects of substrate type and temperature on the development of the HPI stress axis in prolarval and larval lake sturgeon. Lake sturgeon raised over either gravel or no substrate did not consistently show an increase in whole body cortisol at the prolarval stage. However, after the onset of exogenous feeding a consistent increase in whole body cortisol following a stress was evident. Lake sturgeon larvae raised in gravel substrate demonstrated a sustained increase in whole body cortisol for at least 240 min post stress whereas whole body cortisol in larvae raised in no substrate returned to baseline within 240 min post stress. Lake sturgeon larvae raised at 9, 12 and 15°C exhibited markedly different cortisol responses with baseline whole body cortisol being, 38.6 ± 3, 5.67 ± 0.41 and 25.38 ± 2.84 ng.g−1 respectively. Furthermore, the chase induced increases in whole body cortisol at the larval stage were significantly different for each temperature treatment. These experiments demonstrate that physical environment has a significant impact on the development of the HPI stress axis in lake sturgeon.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate the feeding rate of the great sturgeon (Huso huso) young of the year (YOY) and to investigate the effects of different feeding rates in maintaining the weight of fish during short periods of winter starvation. Six feeding rates of 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0% body weight (BW) day?1 and feeding to satiation were considered for the first experiment. Each feeding rate was randomly assigned to three replicate tanks, with continuous feeding throughout a 5‐week winter period of water temperatures below 10°C. Fifteen fish were held in each of 18 tanks with an average initial body weight of 219.6 ± 6.9 g. After 5 weeks of feeding, the best performance was observed in fish fed 1% BW day?1, but negative growth was observed in fish fed 0.2% BW day?1. In the second experiment, fish were deprived of feed for 3 weeks at winter temperatures. Weights and condition factors of all fish decreased during starvation, while the differences in mean weight before and after the starvation period were not significant in fish fed a level of 0.2% BW day?1 and those fish fed to satiation. No mortality was recorded in either experiment. Results of this study indicate that a feeding rate of 1% BW day?1 would be sufficient for commercial fish farming of YOY of this species to maintain them over winter. Also, to maintain fish weights and prevent weight loss in overwintering ponds, a feeding rate of around 0.3% BW day?1 seems appropriate for hatcheries.  相似文献

We investigated the effects of Lactobacillus plantarum used as a dietary supplement on the growth performance and innate immune response in juvenile Siberian sturgeon Acipenser baerii. Juvenile fish (14.6 ± 2.3 g) were fed three experimental diets prepared by supplementing a basal diet with L. plantarum at different concentrations [1 × 107, 1 × 108 and 1 × 109 colony-forming units (cfu) g?1] and a control (non-supplemented basal) diet for 8 weeks. Growth performance indices were increased in fish fed the 1 × 108 cfu g?1 L. plantarum diet compared to the other groups. There was an increased innate immune response in fish fed the experimental diets. The highest levels of lysozyme activity, total immunoglobulin (IgM) and complement component 3 (C3) were observed in fish fed the diet containing L. plantarum at a concentration of 1 × 108 cfu g?1, but there was no significant difference in the level of complement component 4 (C4) in fish fed the experimental diets or the control diet. The present study underlying some positive effects (growth performance and immune indices) of dietary administration of L. plantarum at a concentration of 1 × 108 cfu g?1 in the Siberian sturgeon.  相似文献

The effects of environmental temperature on blood pressure and hormones in obese subjects in Japan were compared in two seasons: summer vs winter. Five obese (BMI, 32?±?5 kg/m2) and five non-obese (BMI, 23 ±3 kg/m2) men participated in this experiment at latitude 35°10′ N and longitude 136°57.9′ E. The average environmental temperature was 29?±?1 °C in summer and 3?±?1 °C in winter. Blood samples were analyzed for leptin, ghrelin, catecholamines, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), free thyroxine (fT4), free triiodothyronine (fT3), total cholesterol, triglycerides, insulin and glucose. Blood pressure was measured over the course of 24 h in summer and winter. A Japanese version of the Profile of Mood States (POMS) questionnaire was also administered each season. Systolic and diastolic blood pressures in obese men were significantly higher in winter (lower environmental temperatures) than in summer (higher environmental temperatures). Noradrenaline and dopamine concentrations were also significantly higher at lower environmental temperatures in obese subjects, but ghrelin, TSH, fT3, fT4, insulin and glucose were not significantly different in summer and winter between obese and non-obese subjects. Leptin, total cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations were significantly higher in winter in obese than non-obese men. Results from the POMS questionnaire showed a significant rise in Confusion at lower environmental temperatures (winter) in obese subjects. In this pilot study, increased blood pressure may have been due to increased secretion of noradrenaline in obese men in winter, and the results suggest that blood pressure control in obese men is particularly important in winter.  相似文献

An increased understanding of lake sturgeon (Acipenser fulvescens) population dynamics is a key requirement for successful management efforts. Little is known regarding the Grasse River population of lake sturgeon except that it is one of a few populations in New York State where spawning has been documented. Thus our purpose was to assess the current status of lake sturgeon in the Grasse River system, including age, growth, mortality, and abundance. Age was determined for 196 of 211 lake sturgeon by examination of sectioned pectoral fin rays. Ages ranged from 0 to 32 years and the annual mortality rate for fish between ages 7 and 14 was 16.8%. The weight (W, g) to total length (TL, mm) relationship was W = 1.281 × 10?6TL3.202. The von Bertalanffy growth equation was TL = 1913(1?e?0.0294(t+9.5691)). While the range of observed ages was similar to that of nearby St. Lawrence River populations, mean weight at age for an individual at 1000 mm TL was lower than that observed for lake sturgeon within Lake St. Francis of the St. Lawrence River. Predicted growth based on von Bertalanffy parameters was similar to that observed for the nearby Lake St. Francis. An open population estimator using the POPAN sub‐module in the Program MARK produced an abundance estimate of 793 lake sturgeon (95% CI = 337–1249).  相似文献

The effects of acute stressors on physiological responses of juvenile great sturgeon or beluga Huso huso L. were investigated in two experiments. In the first experiment, fish were handled by placing them in containers at either low density (LD, one fish l?1) or high density (HD, four fish l?1) for 60 s. Concentrations of plasma cortisol, glucose and lactate were determined from blood collected at 0, 1, 3, 6 and 12 h after application of the stressor. Plasma cortisol concentrations increased after the disturbance in H. huso from both handling treatments, but changes were not significant. Plasma glucose rose significantly by 22·9 and 31·6% in LD and HD handling treatments, respectively, after 3 h. Significant increases in plasma lactate occurred within 1 h in both treatment groups, but that of the HD group was much higher. In the second experiment, fish were held at two different densities, LD (2 kg m?2 tank bottom surface area) and HD (7 kg m?2), for 8 weeks and then subjected to an aerial emersion handling stressor in a net for 60 s; blood samples were taken before handling (resting, 0 h) and at 1, 3, 6 and 9 h after handling. Plasma cortisol increased significantly in fish from the HD treatment from 8·8 ± 0·3 to 19·2 ± 2·4 ng ml?1 (mean ±s.e. ) by 1 h after stress, but post‐handling changes in the LD group were not significant. Significant increases in both plasma glucose and lactate were observed by 1 h in both treatment groups, with peak levels of plasma glucose evident at 3 h [69·4 ± 2·9 and 60·9 ± 1·7 mg dl?1 (mean ±s.e .) in LD and HD groups, respectively]. Plasma glucose levels were significantly higher in the LD group than in the HD group at 3 and 6 h. Post‐handling haemoglobin content increased by 1 h and white blood cell numbers were reduced by 3 and 6 h in the HD treatment group compared with resting values, but changes in these blood features in the LD group were not significant. Acute handling did not affect haematocrit in either treatment. The results suggest that H. huso is relatively resistant to handling and confinement, and could tolerate normal hatchery practices associated with aquaculture. Because changes in cortisol concentrations were relatively low compared with those in most teleosts, glucose and lactate concentrations may be more useful as stress indicators in juvenile H. huso. This study also demonstrated that prior exposure to a chronic stressor, specifically high stocking density, could alter the physiological response to subsequent acute handling in H. huso.  相似文献

Although Streptococcus parauberis is the major bacterial pathogen affecting olive flounder, the translocation and dissemination of this pathogen in infected fish are not well understood. Therefore, we conducted real-time PCR and histopathologic examination to monitor the intensity of infection in multiple organs of the olive flounder after challenge with S. parauberis through subcutaneous injection. The bacterial burden in the fish kidney, when sampled at 0, 3, and 7 dpc, was 0, 6.2?±?4.5?×?105, and 6.7?±?5.5?×?106 CFU/100 mg of tissue, respectively, indicating that the infection progressed rapidly over time. Of the ten different tissues sampled, the heart and the brain were the major target organs of S. parauberis based on highest copy number as detected by our modified real-time PCR method. Histopathologic examination also showed that S. parauberis caused severe inflammation accompanied by leucocyte infiltration, connective tissue expansion, and a loss of cardiomyocytes in the brain and heart of fish sampled at dpc 7. However, the number of S. parauberis-positive fish at 3 dpc was much higher in the spleen (6/8 fish) than in the remaining organs, suggesting that the spleen is targeted in the early stages of infection relative to the heart (2/8 fish) or brain (3/8 fish). This study provides essential information for studies to find treatments for the effective elimination of S. parauberis in target organs (i.e., the brain and heart) of olive flounder.  相似文献

The tarpon Megalops atlanticus is a tropical to subtropical species whose pole-ward distribution is thought to be limited by low water temperatures. In the western north Atlantic Ocean juvenile tarpon occur in estuaries of the South Atlantic Bight (SAB) north of Florida near the northern limit of its distribution, but it is currently unknown whether these individuals can survive winter, grow to maturity, and contribute to the adult population. As a first step to determine whether juvenile tarpon can survive winter conditions in the SAB, we conducted laboratory experiments to estimate minimum lethal temperatures of tarpon exposed to 1) ambient fluctuating winter water conditions and 2) a constant rate of temperature decline. Juvenile tarpon exposed to ambient winter water conditions had a mean ± standard deviation (SD) minimum lethal temperature of 13.7 ± 3.4 °C. When exposed to a constant rate of temperature decline (2 °C day?1), mean ± SD minimum lethal temperature (9.2 ± 0.8 °C) was lower than when tarpon were exposed to ambient fluctuating conditions. A combination of our results with all published data on the cold tolerance of juvenile tarpon resulted in an overall mean ± SD minimum lethal temperature of 12.0 ± 2.8 °C. Based on available long-term temperature records from SAB estuaries, overwinter survival of juvenile tarpon is unlikely in most aquatic habitats (e.g., tidal creeks, flats, open water). Similar to other estuarine transient fishes, juvenile tarpon likely exploit seasonably favorable nursery habitats and then migrate to other locations to overwinter.  相似文献

Continued study of the relationship between lake sturgeon (Acipenser fulvescens) recruitment and hydroelectric dams and operations, in a variety of river systems and habitat types is needed to improve the ability to predict and monitor impacts of the hydroelectric industry on this species. Herein, we present results of a juvenile lake sturgeon study aimed at addressing concerns over an inferred lack of recruitment resulting from spawning downstream of a hydroelectric generating station (HGS). Two years of sampling (2015 and 2016) were conducted in five sections of a 41 km long reach of the Seine River, Ontario, a lake sturgeon spawning tributary of Rainy Lake. Using an established gillnetting method, deepwater habitat was targeted to capture juvenile lake sturgeon to assess relative abundance, recruitment (cohort strength), and growth. Deepwater habitat, defined as water depths >6 m in this system, comprised only 2.1% of the wetted area in this study area. Within these habitats, a total of 331 lake sturgeon capture events were observed over the 2-years study period. The majority of the lake sturgeon catch (85%) was comprised of age-0 to age-5 individuals (both sampling years combined). Although inter-annual variation in cohort strength was apparent, each cohort between 2006 and 2016 was represented. The spatial distribution of cohorts varied among river reaches with younger individuals (age-0 and age-1) occupying reaches proximal to the Sturgeon Falls HGS, and larger, older individuals (age-2 to age-5) occupying reaches further downstream. The rarity of age-6+ individuals can likely be explained by ongoing downstream redistribution of juveniles over time, out of the Seine River and into Rainy Lake. Growth of juvenile lake sturgeon captured in the Seine River was above average relative to conspecifics from other rivers in the Hudson Bay drainage. Unfortunately, baseline data sets required to facilitate comparisons of contemporary (post-construction Sturgeon Falls HGS) versus historical (i.e. pre- Sturgeon Falls HGS) lake sturgeon recruitment, or to evaluate the influence of the Seine River Water Management Plan (2004) on lake sturgeon recruitment, are lacking. However, juvenile Lake Sturgeon are more abundant in this system than what had been surmised based on recent studies which implemented random sampling. Results indicate that juvenile lake sturgeon may reside in spawning tributaries for several years (age-0 to age-5) prior to seeking alternate habitats and highlights the value of targeted sampling (i.e. by depth) along the flow axis of rivers downstream of spawning areas when assessing lake sturgeon recruitment patterns.  相似文献

Lake sturgeon Acipenser fulvescens are imperiled throughout the Laurentian Great Lakes basin. Efforts to restore this species to former population levels have been ineffective due in part to limited information regarding its early life history. The objectives of this study were to characterize the larval drift and biological attributes of age‐0 lake sturgeon in the lower Peshtigo River, Wisconsin. Lake sturgeon larvae were captured from May to June 2002 and 2003 using drift nets, while age‐0 juveniles were captured from June through October 2002 and 2003 using wading, snorkeling, backpack electrofishing, and haul‐seine surveys. Larval drift occurred within 14 days of adult spawning and extended from 1 to 3 weeks in duration, with two peaks in the number of fish drifting downstream each year. Larvae had a median total length (TL) of 19 mm (range: 13–23; N = 159) in 2002 and 18 mm (range: 13–24; N = 652) in 2003. Catch‐per‐unit‐effort for larvae was 0.18 fish h?1 m2 and 0.94 fish h?1 m2 in 2002 and 2003, respectively. Age‐0 juvenile lake sturgeon exhibited rapid growth (i.e. 2.57 mm day?1 in TL and 0.66 g day?1 in wet weight) throughout summer and fall months; relative condition of fish in both years was approximately 100, indicating good condition. Absolute abundance of age‐0 juveniles in 2003 was estimated at 261 fish using the Schnabel estimator. The results from this study indicate that the lower Peshtigo River contains important nursery habitats suitable for age‐0 lake sturgeon.  相似文献

A survey carried out in Lake Tana in 2015 found that Hg levels in some fish species exceeded internationally accepted safe levels for fish consumption. The current study assesses human exposure to Hg through fish consumption around the Lake Tana. Of particular interest was that a dietary intake of fishes is currently a health risk for Bihar Dar residents and anglers. Hair samples were collected from three different groups: anglers, college students and teachers, and daily laborers. A questionary includes gender, age, weight, activity. Frequency of fish consumption and origin of the eaten fish were completed by each participant. Mercury concentrations in hair were significantly higher (P value <0.05) for anglers (mean?±?standard deviation 0.120?±?0.199 μg/g) than college students (mean?±?standard deviation 0.018?±?0.039 μg/g) or daily workers (mean?±?standard deviation 16?±?9.5 ng/g). Anglers consumed fish more often than daily workers and college group. Moreover, there was also a strong correlation (P value <0.05) between the logarithms of total mercury and age associated with mercury concentration in scalp hair. Mercury concentrations in the hair of men were on average twice the value of the women. Also, users of skin lightening soap on a daily basis had 2.5 times greater mercury in scalp hair than non-users. Despite the different sources of mercury exposure mentioned above, the mercury concentrations of the scalp hair of participants of this study were below levels deemed to pose a threat to health.  相似文献

The present research focused on enhancing the production of wedelolactone through cell suspension culture (CSC) in Eclipta alba (L.) Hassk. With an aim of attaining a sustainable CSC, various plant growth regulators, elicitors and agitation speed were examined. Nodal segments of in vitro propagated plantlets induced the maximum percentage (93.47?±?0.61%) of callus inoculated on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium fortified with picloram (2 mg L?1). The growth kinetics of CSC exhibited a sigmoid pattern with a lag phase (0–6 days), a log phase (6–18 days), a stationary phase (18–24 days) and then death phase thereafter. The highest biomass accumulation in CSC with 7.09?±?0.06 g 50 mL?1 fresh weight, 1.52?±?0.02 g 50 mL?1 dry cell weight, 1.34?±?0.01?×?106 cell mL?1 total cell count and 57.00?±?0.58% packed cell volume was obtained in the liquid MS medium supplemented with 1.5 mg L?1 picloram plus 0.5 mg L?1 kinetin at 120 rpm. High performance thin layer chromatography confirmed that yeast extract (biotic elicitor) at 150 mg L?1 accumulated more CSC biomass with 1.22-fold increase in wedelolactone (288.97?±?1.94 µg g?1 dry weight) content in comparison to the non-elicited CSC (237.78?±?0.04 µg g?1 dry weight) after 120 h of incubation. Contrastingly, methyl jasmonate (abiotic elicitor) did not alter the biomass but increased the wedelolactone content (259.32?±?1.06 µg g?1 dry weight) to an extent of 1.09-fold at 100 µM. Complete plantlet regeneration from CSC was possible on MS medium containing N6-benzyladenine (0.75 mg L?1) and abscisic acid (0.5 mg L?1). Thus, the establishment of protocol for CSC constitutes the bases for future biotechnological improvement studies in this crop.  相似文献

The stress response of Oncorhynchus mykiss in high‐altitude farms in central Mexico was investigated over two seasons: the cool (9·1–13·7° C) dry winter season, and the warmer (14·7–15·9° C), wetter summer season. Fish were subjected to an acute stress test followed by sampling of six physiological variables: blood cortisol, glucose, lactate, total antioxidant capacity, haemoglobin concentration and per cent packed cell volume (VPC%). Multivariate analyses revealed that lactate and total antioxidant capacity were significantly higher in the summer, when water temperatures were warmer and moderate hypoxia (4·9–5·3 mg l?1) prevailed. In contrast, plasma cortisol was significantly higher in the winter (mean ± s.e .: 76·7 ± 4·0 ng ml?1) when temperatures were cooler and dissolved oxygen levels higher (6·05–7·9 mg l?1), than in the summer (22·7 ± 3·8 ng ml?1). Haemoglobin concentrations (mg dl?1) were not significantly different between seasons, but VPC% was significantly higher in the summer (50%) than in the winter (35%). These results suggest that in summer, effects of high altitude on farmed fish are exacerbated by stresses of high temperatures and hypoxia, resulting in higher blood lactate, increased total antioxidant capacity and elevated VPC% levels.  相似文献

Lactobacillus plantarum MA2 was isolated from traditional Chinese Tibetan kefir grains. Its antioxidant properties had been demonstrated in vitro and in vivo previously. In the present study, the probiotic characteristics of this strain were further evaluated by investigating its acid and bile salt tolerances, cell surface hydrophobicity, and autoaggregation, respectively. In addition, the cellular antioxidant activity (CAA) assay was applied to test the antioxidant capacity of the isolate in different growth phases. Same method was also used to evaluate the antioxidant capacity of its fermentation supernatant, cell-free extract, and intact cell quantitatively. The results of probiotic characteristic tests showed that MA2 could survive at pH 2.5 and 0.3% bile salt. Meanwhile, the measurements of cell surface hydrophobicity and autoaggregation were 45.29?±?2.15 and 6.30?±?0.34%, respectively. The results of cellular antioxidant activity tests indicated that MA2 had high antioxidant potential. The CAA value of logarithmic phase cell-free extract of MA2 (39,450.00?±?424.05 μmol quercetin equivalents/100 g sample) was significantly higher than that in stationary phase cell-free extract (3395.98?±?126.06 μmol quercetin equivalents/100 g sample) and that of fermentation supernatant in logarithmic phase (2174.41?±?224.47 μmol quercetin equivalents/100 g sample) (p?<?0.05). The CAA method was successively applied to evaluate the antioxidant capacity of MA2 in this study, which suggests that it could be used as a useful method for lactic acid bacteria antioxidant potential evaluation.  相似文献

Ghrelin is a multifunctional regulatory peptide that has widespread endocrine and metabolic effects in mammals and birds. The present study aimed to investigate the possible effect of ghrelin on blood hormone and biochemical indices in turkey. A total of forty-eight 28 day-old turkeys were divided into three groups for tests. Ghrelin was injected at the onset of the experiment (28-day old birds). Treatment doses were as follows: treatment 1 (control) without injection; treatment 2—50 ng ghrelin/kg body weight (BW); and treatment 3—100 ng ghrelin/kg BW. Two blood samples were taken from the birds, one at 12 h (short-term effect) and the other at 40 days (long-term effect). Blood analyses showed that level of corticosterone increased in response to ghrelin treatments G50 and G100 in samples taken on days 28 and 68 (p?<?0.01). There was an increase in T4 concentration in the G50 and G100 groups in comparison with the control. Blood glucose increased in response to ghrelin administration, and total cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations decreased in the two samples in response to higher ghrelin dosage (p?<?0.01). In conclusion, the peripheral administration of ghrelin in turkeys may increase levels of serum corticosterone, glucose and T4. Therefore, total cholesterol and triglyceride may decrease in birds following ghrelin administration. Ghrelin may increase metabolic rate (due to increases in T4) and regulate lipogenesis in poultry species such as turkey.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to assess the relationship between river water quality and the distribution of benthic macroinvertebrate communities in the Haraz River in Iran. Using a surber net sampler, benthic macroinvertebrate communities along the stream was sampled in wet and dry seasons of 2015 at nine stations with three replications. The physicochemical water quality parameters were measured in the field by water checker. Hilsenhoff biotic Indices, Shannon Wiener Diversity Indices, Average Score per Taxon (ASPT) Index and Pielou Evenness Index were applied to carry out a biological assessment of water quality. A total of 3781 (spring 769, summer 1092, autumn 1095 and winter 825) benthic macroinvertebrate specimens belonging to 4 orders, 11 classes and 16 families were identified. The lowest number of taxa was recorded in spring while the highest was recorded in autumn. Station 9 had the lowest number of taxa while the highest number of taxa was recorded at station 3. The average values (±SD) of the water quality parameters were temperature 14.75?±?4.38 °C, pH 7.93?±?0.62, water flow 14.11?±?9.04 m3 s?1, electric conductivity 532.75?±?161.35 μmohs cm?1, total dissolved solids 296.61?±?76.21 mg L?1, salinity 0.28?±?0.07 mg L?1, turbidity 580.77?±?149.92 NTU and dissolved oxygen 8.08?±?0.75 mg L?1. The assessment of stations 1 to 6 indicated that water quality conditions were suitable. In addition, substantial level of organic pollution was observed in stations 7 and 8. In station 9 water quality was fairly poor, requiring a more favourable management based on the capacity of the self-purification of the Haraz River.  相似文献
