Enamel thicknesses in 45,X females', their male and female relatives', and population control males' and females' permanent tooth crowns were determined from radiographs. The results showed that the enamel layer in both maxillary first incisors and canines of 45,X females is definitely thinner than that of control males or females. Enamel in control males' and females' teeth was about equal in size. The distance between mesial and distal dentino-enamel junctions or the thickness of "dentin" was similar in 45,X females' and in control females' teeth, but definitely smaller than in control males' teeth. These findings show that in the presence of the second sex-chromosome in the chromosome complement, whether X or Y, there is a definite and equal increase in the amount of enamel. On the other hand, in the presence of the Y chromosome in the chromosome complement, relative to the second X chromosome, there is a definite increase in the thickness of the dentin. The results of earlier studies have indicated a direct growth-promoting effect of the sex chromosomes on tooth growth, and that the effect of X and Y chromosomes is different. The present results suggest that the influence of the X- and Y-chromosome gene(s) on amelogenesis is the same in quantitative terms but different in relation to the determination of the distance between dentino-enamel junctions; the Y chromosome is more effective than the X chromosome in that respect. It is postulated that this size-increasing effect of the Y-chromosome gene(s) might result from its profound effect on cell proliferations.  相似文献

In 1966 during a dental survey of four districts in Uganda — Acholi in the north, Bugisu in the east, and Kigezi and Toro in the southwest — 1169 Africans were examined. In the sample from Kigezi District 11.9% of the Bakiga tribe showed a form of dental mutilation consisting of the filing away of the mesial angle of the upper central incisors. In the sample from Acholi District 16.1% of the Acholi tribe showed abnormal conditions related to the ritual extraction of the primary canines. Extraction of the lower permanent incisors was seen occasionally in the Acholis (8), Batoros (1) and Bugisus (3). Removal of the primary canines is attributed to a belief that infantile fever originates from these teeth. Because the primary canines were removed in a crude fashion, malformation, non-eruption or premature eruption of the underlying permanent canines resulted.  相似文献

Correlation between the timing of permanent first molar eruption and weaning age in extant primates has provided a way to infer a life history event in fossil species, but recent debate has questioned whether the same link is present in human infants. Deciduous incisors erupt at an age when breast milk can be supplemented with additional foods (mixed feeding), and weaning is typically complete before permanent first molars erupt. Here, I use histological methods to calculate the prenatal rate by which enamel increases in thickness and height on human deciduous incisors, canines, and molars (n = 125). Growth trajectories for each tooth type are related to the trimesters and assessed against the eruption sequence and final crown height. Analyses show that central incisors initiate early in the second trimester with significantly faster secretion rates relative to canines and second molars, which initiate closer to birth. Even though initial extension rates were correlated with crown height and scaled with positive allometry within each tooth class, the relatively short incisors still increased in height at a significantly faster rate than the taller canines and molars. The incisor prenatal “fast track” produces a greater proportion of the crown before birth than all other tooth types. This growth mechanism likely facilitates early incisor eruption at a time when the mixed feeding of infants can be initiated as part of the weaning process. Findings provide a basis from which to explore new links between developmental trends along the tooth row and mixed feeding age in other primates. The significance of a gradient in enamel thickness along the human permanent molar row has been debated in the literature. Some attribute increased enamel thickness from first to third molars to greater bite force during chewing. Others argue that thicker third molar enamel relates to a smaller crown size facilitated by a reduced dentin component. Thus, differences in morphology, not function, explains enamel thickness. This study draws on these different interpretive models to assess enamel thickness along the entire human deciduous tooth row. Average enamel thickness (AET), the area and proportion of crown enamel and dentin, and a crown size proxy are calculated for incisors, canines, and molars. Allometric scaling relationships are assessed within each tooth class, and then comparisons are undertaken along the row. Generally, AET was correlated with crown size and scaled with isometry, except for second molars which scaled with positive allometry. Mean AET increased along the row and was greater on molars, where bite forces are reported to be higher. Second molars combined the largest crown size with the thickest enamel and the smallest proportion of dentin, which is consistent with a reduction in the potential for cusp fracture under high bite forces. Resistance to wear may also account for some enamel thickness variation between tooth classes. Dental reduction did not explain the trend in AET from central to lateral incisors, or from first to second molars. The gradient in AET along the deciduous tooth row is partly consistent with a functional interpretation of enamel thickness. Summary Enamel thickness of the maxillary permanent central incisors and canines in seven Finnish 47,XXX females, their first-degree male and female relatives, and control males and females from the general population were determined from radiographs. The results showed that enamel in the teeth of 47,XXX females was clearly thicker than that of normal controls. On the other hand, the thickness of dentin (distance between mesial and distal dentinoenamel junctions) in 47,XXX females' teeth was about the same as that in normal control females, but clearly reduced as compared with that in control males. It is therefore obvious that in the triple-X chromosome complement the extra X chromosome is active in amelogenesis, whereas it has practically no influence on the growth of dentin. The calculations based on present and previous results in 45,X females and 47,XYY males indicate that the X chromosome increases metric enamel growth somewhat more effectively than the Y chromosome. Possibly, halfway states exist between active and repressed enamel genes on the X chromosome. The Y chromosome seems to promote dental growth in a holistic fashion.  相似文献

Observations on morphological characters of milk and permanent teeth, based on 648 pairs of dental casts of 356 male and 292 female Jat children of Haryana (India) are reported. Deciduous teeth show high frequencies of bilateral winging of maxillary central incisor, Carabelli's cusp of maxillary second molar, and deflecting wrinkle of mandibular second molar. Reduction of maxillary molar cusps is more marked in males than in females. Y pattern is very common in deciduous molars. Permanent teeth have high frequencies of grooved cingulum of incisors, cingular nodule of lateral incisors and canines, and distal accessary ridge of canines. Low frequencies of Carabelli's cusp and winging are also common. The tendency towards faintly developed shovelling in milk incisors occurs more often than in the permanent teeth.  相似文献

A cross-sectional sample of 121 colony-born saddle-back tamarins, Saguinus fuscicollis, was examined to identify the sequence and timing of dental eruption and epiphyseal union. The state of dental development of the deciduous and permanent dentitions was recorded as erupted or non-erupted on the basis of gingival penetration. Eighteen areas of union of long bone epiphyseal and other secondary centers, the union of the primary elements of the innominate, and the spheno-occipital synchondrosis were examined. The state of union at the areas was recorded on a three-point scale of not united, uniting, and united. The data indicated that deciduous incisors and canines were present at birth and that all deciduous teeth were erupted by 12 weeks. The first permanent tooth, M(1), erupted between weeks 16 and 23; the permanent dentition was fully erupted by 45 weeks. Union of the long bone epiphyses began in the third month at the distal humerus and continued until the first quarter of the second year. The secondary centers at the ischial tuberosity and iliac crest were united slightly later than four and six years of age, respectively. Regression analysis of the data indicate their potential use as parameters for predicting age in feral specimens.  相似文献

Teeth are composed of two domains, the enamel-covered crown and the enamel-free root. The understanding of the initiation and regulation of crown and root domain formation is important for the development of bioengineered teeth. In most teeth the crown develops before the root, and erupts to the oral cavity whereas the root anchors the tooth to the jawbone. However, in the continuously growing mouse incisor the crown and root domains form simultaneously, the crown domain forming the labial and the root domain the lingual part of the tooth. While the crown–root border on the incisor distal side supports the distal enamel extent, reflecting an evolutionary diet adaptation, on the incisor mesial side the root-like surface is necessary for the attachment of the interdental ligament between the two incisors. Therefore, the mouse incisor exhibits a functional distal–mesial asymmetry. Here, we used the mouse incisor as a model to understand the mechanisms involved in the crown–root border formation. We analyzed the cellular origins and gene expression patterns leading to the development of the mesial and distal crown–root borders. We discovered that Barx2, En1, Wnt11, and Runx3 were exclusively expressed on the mesial crown–root border. In addition, the distal border of the crown–root domain might be established by cells from a different origin and by an early Follistatin expression, factor known to be involved in the root domain formation. The use of different mechanisms to establish domain borders gives indications of the incisor functional asymmetry.  相似文献

釉面横纹的数目可用于推断个体牙齿的牙冠形成时间,在生长发育研究中具有重要的意义。本研究运用数码体视显微镜和扫描电镜观察了云南石灰坝禄丰禄丰古猿(简称禄丰古猿)30枚齿冠完整的前部牙齿,包括上下颌中门齿6枚、侧门齿10枚和犬齿14枚。根据唇侧面釉面横纹计数的观察结果,分别以7天和9天芮氏线生长周期,估算各齿型的牙冠形成时间,结果显示:以生长周期7天计算,中门齿牙冠形成时间约为3.6-4.1年,侧门齿牙冠形成时间约为2.7-3.7年,犬齿牙冠形成时间约为4.2-7.0;以生长周期9天计算,中门齿牙冠形成时间约为4.4-5.2年,侧门齿牙冠形成时间约为3.4-4.7年,犬齿牙冠形成时间约为5.2-8.8年。为更深入地了解禄丰古猿牙冠形成时间在不同齿型及性别间足否存在明显差异,本文用SPSS软件对其进行显著性差异检验。采用小样本平均值的t值假设检验(置信区间为95%),结果如下:禄丰古猿前部牙齿的牙冠形成时间在各类牙齿的上下颌中不存在显著性差异;犬齿牙冠形成时间存在非常显著的性别差异,雄性牙冠形成时间明显长于雌性,侧门齿也存在显著的性别差异,而中门齿性别间则无显著性差异。此外对禄丰古猿中门齿,侧门齿和犬齿的牙冠形成时间进行单因素方差分析并两两对比,结果显示中门齿与侧门齿的牙冠形成时间不存在显著性差异,而犬齿与中门齿和侧门齿均存在显著性差异,犬齿牙冠形成时间明显长于门齿。同时也对禄丰古猿前部牙齿的牙冠形成时间与齿冠高进行相关性分析,其结果表明两者有显著的正相关性。将禄丰古猿与其他古猿和现生大猿、南方古猿以及人属成员进行对比,结果显示其前部牙齿牙冠形成时间长于原修康尔猿、南方古猿、傍人、人属成员,接近于蝴蝶禄丰古猿和大猩猩,而明显小于黑猩猩、华南化石猩猩及现生猩猩。  相似文献

The structure of teeth in all living beings is genetically predetermined, although it can change under external physiological and pathological factors. The author's hypothesis was to indicate evolutional shifts resulting from genetic, functional and other differences. A comparative study about certain characteristics of incisors in humans and myomorpha, the fat dormouse (Glis glis) being their representative as well, comprised measurements of enamel and dentin thickness in individual incisor segments, evaluation of external enamel index, and also assessment of histological structure of enamel and dentin. The study results involving dormice showed the enamel to be thicker in lower than in the upper teeth, quite contrary to enamel thickness in humans. In the upper incisors in dormice the enamel is the thickest in the medial layer of the crown, and in the cervical portion of the crown in the lower incisors. The thickness of dentin in dormice is greater in the oral than in the vestibular side. These findings significantly differ from those reported in reference literature, but they are based on the function of teeth in dormice. Histological characteristics of hard dental tissues in dormice are similar to those in humans, with exception of uniserial structure of enamel and appearance of dentinoenamel junction.  相似文献

2003 年4 月至2004 年10 月对12 只狍东北亚种雌性生产的16 只仔狍进行了生长发育观察。记录仔狍出生日期,观察生长过程的毛色变化,定期检查牙齿生长状况,测定体尺和体重,所得数据采用SPSS13. 0 软件处理,绘制生长曲线并建立体长与体重的拟合曲线方程。结果表明,圈养条件下仔狍出生主要集中在5 月中旬至6
月中旬,出生时毛色呈暗棕黄色,身体两侧分布不规则的白斑,翌年换毛后白斑消失;出生仔狍的齿式为(0 03 0 /4 0 3 0)×2 = 20,成年狍的齿式为(0 1 3 3/4 0 3 3)×2 = 34,乳齿6 ~7 月龄开始脱换,8 ~9 月龄完成,脱换的顺序为中央切齿→两侧切齿→隅齿;(上、下颌)后臼齿的第一后臼齿2 月龄萌发、3 ~ 4 月龄生长完成,第
二后臼齿6 ~ 7 月龄萌发,8 ~9 月龄生长完成,第三后臼齿12 ~ 13 月龄萌发,14 ~ 15 月龄生长完成;乳齿的前臼齿从12 月龄开始脱换,14 月龄完成,脱换的顺序是上颌第一前臼齿和下颌第三前臼齿→上、下颌第二前臼齿→上颌第三前臼齿和下颌第一前臼齿;仔狍体尺增长率顺序为体长> 臀高> 肩高> 胸围> 腰围。仔狍体长与体重的拟合曲线方程是Y = 63.1084 - 0.0070x + 1.1e - 6 x2 - 3e- 11 x3 ,生长发育过程可分为生长快速期、生长缓慢期和雌雄狍生长差异期3 个阶段。  相似文献

Formation of deciduous and permanent maxillary incisors and canines was studied in 361 children with cleft lip and palate. Altogether, 704 occlusal X rays of the children aged from 2 weeks to 41 months were assessed using a 13-stage scale. The early timing of tooth development was in both dentitions close to that reported for healthy children. However, developmental asymmetry was noted between contralateral teeth on the cleft and noncleft sides. In the unilateral cleft lip and palate group, every tenth cleft-side deciduous central incisor, deciduous canine, and permanent central incisor was delayed compared to the corresponding contralateral tooth. The formation timing was also compared within 11 prenatal and hereditary variables. Risk factors for delayed development were low placental weight, short gestation, mother's use of drugs during pregnancy, first in birth order, cleft with multiple additional malformations, and relatives having malformations other than oral clefts. However, the associations between a risk factor and tooth development were weak.  相似文献

釉面横纹的分布与数目可以反映牙齿生长发育的时间和速率变化, 在化石研究中能为复原个体生活史提供重要依据。本研究运用扫描电子显微镜观察华南化石猩猩门齿、犬齿釉面横纹分布与数目, 并估算门齿和犬齿牙冠形成时间, 结果如下: 牙冠从牙尖至牙颈方向釉面横纹分布密度有疏密变化, 牙尖釉面横纹密度小于10条/mm, 中间至牙颈釉面横纹密度较尖部增大, 大约10-15条/mm; 犬齿釉面横纹数目多于门齿, 雄性犬齿釉面横纹数目多于雌性; 根据釉面横纹计数及其生长周期的组织切片观察结果, 估算门齿牙冠形成时间大约为2.97-6.66年, 犬齿雄性长于雌性, 分别为6.25-11.31年和4.28-7.29年。与一些古猿、早期人类、现代人以及现生大猿比较, 华南化石猩猩釉面横纹整体密度稍大于南方古猿和傍人, 小于黑猩猩、大猩猩、现代人和禄丰古猿; 除侧门齿外, 华南化石猩猩釉面横纹数目明显多于南方古猿、傍人和现代人, 与大猩猩接近; 华南猩猩前部牙齿牙冠形成时间与现生大猿、禄丰古猿差别不大, 与现生猩猩最相近, 长于南方古猿和傍人。  相似文献

Ten years data on birth peak, birth rate and interbiith interval inPresbytis entellus of Jodhpur have been presented. Although Hangman langur females breed round the year, there is some concentration of births during January–March while fewer births occur during October–December. It seems that provisioning and crop raiding together may provide better feeding opportunities to breed year round. However, it remains unclear whether environmental factors allow langur females to deliver more infants during January–March. During 1984–86 the birth rate was uniform for the whole population (0.63). While there was a variation within the troops from year to year, data suggest that resident male replacements do alter birth rate. It goes down when resident males are replaced frequently. The interbirth interval ranges between 7.0 and 76.5 months (average, 16.88 months;n = 112). Abortions and still-births reduced the interbirlh interval to 7.1 months (range 7.1-21.1; average, 11.4 months;n= 8) compared to the normal inlerbirth interval following infant survive its first 4.1 months of life (range 10.7-76.5 months; average, 17.28 months;n = 86). However, infant loss under the age of 4.1 months did not reduce the interbirth interval except in two cases (range 7.0-51.8 months; average, 17.27 months;n = 18). Maternal rejection or weaning begins at about 8 months of age and lasts until infants are 12 months old. In this population, the probability of twin births was worked out to be 0.79 per 100 births.  相似文献

We report the case of a new type of dental shaping practiced post-mortem on two lower canines belonging to an individual who had been deposited in the main corridor of the double megalithic monument called A4 passage-grave of the Neolithic Necropolis at Chenon (Charente, France). The main purpose of the present study based on ESEM microscopic observation of human teeth was to examine the trimming process used to shape these teeth. The ESEM observations were performed at different magnifications (30X, 100X, 200X, 500X) on the fractured lingual face, near the CEJ, near the pulp cavity and on the edge of the crown. The tooth shaping was done symmetrically on the two canines, from top to bottom of the lingual side, halfway up the crown, from the mesial face to the distal face, descending a little lower than the CEJ under the gum. A polishing of the exposed surface completed the proceeding. This type of teeth shaping has not been listed until now within the classifications of canine shaping. Known trimmed canines are either pyramid-shaped or L-shaped and observed from Neolithic period to Iron age in Spain.  相似文献

The synthesis of both ontogenetic and phylogenetic data should provide the ideal explanation of morphologic variation, but for the primate dentition, this has not yet occurred. Information concerning growth and development of primate teeth is lacking, in part because of the paucity of specimens. We have therefore examined the deciduous second molars (dm2) and tooth buds of the permanent first molar (M1) of 12 chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes), aged 6.5 months of gestation to 4 postnatal months. The ordering of cusp calcification was identical to that of other primates. By regression analysis, correlations of mesial and distal widths with buccal, lingual, and mesiodistal lengths were low, most probably because of decreased rates of change (slopes) and the relatively small sample size. Correlations were, however, greater for mandibular than for maxillary dentition and higher for age than for body weight; for both the dm2 and M1, distal moieties increased faster and were more highly correlated with other dental variables and age than were mesial ones. Comparison with data from humans revealed both differences and similarities in the absolute size and growth rate of dental moieties during the perinatal period. As the reasons for ontogenetic variation become understood for individuals, species, and higher taxa, the phylogenetic implications of differential growth should become clearer as well.  相似文献

Studies were carried out on the prevalence of dystocia and losses at parturition and post-partum following early mating and first breeding in 15 Nigerian indigenous pigs. Six were 8 months old at the time of their first farrowing, while nine were 11 or 12 months at the time of their first farrowing. Forty-six piglets were born, of which 11 died at birth (24%) and a further 18 during the next 7 days (total loss 63.0%). The six pigs that farrowed at 8 months of age had smaller mean litters and birth weights, a higher incidence of dystocia and higher piglet mortality at birth than those that farrowed later (32 with 91% survival). However, increased age at first farrowing did not reduce the high death rate during the first week (50% of piglets which survived at birth in both groups). This was attributed to starvation due to poor mothering ability following first farrowing since there was no agalactia or mastitis.  相似文献

A small collection of fossil catarrhines was recovered from the early Miocene locality of Meswa Bridge in western Kenya between 1978 and 1980. The associated fauna from Meswa Bridge indicates an age older than 20 Ma. Much of the material has been briefly described previously, and its taxonomic status considered. The material can be assigned to a minimum of four individuals, all of which are infants or juveniles. Although the specimens were shown to belong to a distinct species of Proconsul, the taxon was not named, primarily because many of the specimens belonged to immature individuals. Nevertheless, the combined morphological features of the deciduous and permanent teeth allow the diagnosis of a new species of Proconsul, which is formally named here as P. meswae. It is a large-sized species, similar in dental size to P. nyanzae. The main features distinguishing it from all other previously named species of Proconsul are: incisors and deciduous incisors relatively low crowned; upper deciduous canines relatively higher crowned and more robust; molars and deciduous premolars relatively broader and higher crowned, with a more pronounced degree of buccolingual flare and better developed cingula; size differential between molars not as marked; dP4 with a longer mesial fovea and smaller hypoconulid and distal fovea; P4 relatively broader, with a better developed buccal cingulum; lower molars less rectangular with a longer mesial fovea, smaller distal fovea, more restricted talonid basin, and a tendency for a smaller hypoconulid; dP4 and upper molars with strongly buccolingually splayed roots; mandibular corpus in infants relatively deeper and more slender; maxilla with a well developed canine jugum and fossa. The broader and more flared molars with better developed cingula indicate that the Meswa Bridge species is more primitive than other species of Proconsul. The inference that it is a stem member of the Proconsul clade is consistent with the estimated age of the material.  相似文献

Summary The relationship between odontoblasts and pulp capillaries in the process of dentinogenesis was studied in rat lower incisors, both on the labial and lingual sides, using light and transmission electron microscopy. The odontoblasts showed remarkable differences from the apical to the incisal end. Near the apical end of the tooth, immature odontoblasts, which were thought to be involved in the formation of the mantle dentin, were arranged in a single layer, and continuous capillaries were located just beneath the odontoblasts. In the middle of the tooth, mature odontoblasts with highly developed cell organelles and notable processes formed a pseudostratified layer; fenestrated capillaries were found between these cells close to the predentin. The height of the odontoblast layer and the rate of dentin deposition on the labial (enamel-related) side was significantly greater than that on the lingual (cementum-related) side. Near the incisal end, cementum-related odontoblasts gradually decreased in height and number to become post-odontoblasts that produced atubular dentin; continuous capillaries were located subjacent to the post-odontoblasts. On the labial (enamel-related) side, however, odontoblasts retained their pseudostratification; fenestrated capillaries were still observed in the odontoblast layer. No atubular dentin was formed on the labial side.  相似文献
