A comparative analysis of changes in the functional state of the oral and caudal trigeminal nuclei after electroacupuncture was undertaken in acute experiments on adult cats anesthetized with hexobarbital (50 mg/kg, intraperitoneally). Electroacupuncture was shown to inhibit evoked potentials arising in the caudal nucleus as a result of stimulation of the pulp, but not to change evoked potentials in response to stimulation of the mucosal surface of the lip. Electroacupuncture in the oral nucleus facilitated responses to both types of stimulation. Systemic injection of morphine (5 mg/kg, intravenously) gave similar results. It is suggested that the ventromedial part of the caudal nucleus facilitates the arrival of the diffuse component of the nociceptive signal in the nonspecific projection system, whereas the oral nucleus participates in conduction of information on possible injury to the structures of the oral cavity and realization of the necessary protective reactions.Central Research Institute of Reflex Therapy, Main Health Board, Moscow. A choleratoxin B subunit transganglionic labelling technique and NPY immunohistochemistry were applied in the rat to achieve the chemoanatomical separation of myelinated vibrissal primary afferents, previously considered to be morphologically indistinguishable. Further, a special central representation pattern of supraorbital vibrissae was observed in the trigeminal brainstem nuclear complex: (1) Choleratoxin-labelled supraorbital vibrissal primary afferents terminated densely in their appropriate barrelettes in the trigeminal principal sensory nucleus, in the spinal oral subnucleus, in the caudal part of the spinal interpolar subnucleus, and in lamina IV of the caudal part of the spinal caudal subnucleus. (2) A second population of choleratoxin-labelled vibrissal afferents was also observed, terminating only in lamina III of the caudal subnucleus. (3) After peripheral nerve transection, NPY-immunoreactive supraorbital vibrissal primary afferent fibres appeared in their appropriate barrelettes in the principal sensory nucleus and the caudal part of the interpolar subnucleus, while in the caudal part of the caudal subnucleus NPY-immunoreactive vibrissal primary afferent terminals were found exclusively in the inner part of lamina II, extending over the outer part of lamina III. NPY-immunoreactive supraorbital vibrissal primary afferents were never found in the oral subnucleus. In contrast with the rules of the central representation of the mystacial (infraorbital) vibrissae, the multiple representation of the supraorbital vibrissae in the caudal subnucleus and the dense, barrelette-like terminal arborization of the choleratoxin-labelled supraorbital vibrissal primary afferents in the oral subnucleus apparently indicate an enhanced role of supraorbital vibrissae in reflexes that protect the eyes and the head from damage.  相似文献

Electrical stimulation of afferent vagal fibres evoked a pressor response in rats after transection of the spinal cord. The pressor response was accounted for by an increased release of vasopressin because it was abolished by the intravenous injection of a vasopressin antagonist. Bilateral electrolytic lesions at the sites of the caudal ventrolateral medulla markedly reduced the pressor response to afferent vagal stimulation but not that to carotid occlusion. It is concluded that the area of the caudal ventrolateral medulla is involved in mediation of the vasopressin-induced pressor response to afferent vagal stimulation.  相似文献

In 10 cats with aseptically extirpated frontal and parietal areas of the brain cortex, efferent connections of the areas in question with the nucleus caudatus were experimentally studied by means of morphological methods. The preparations were stained according the methods of Nauta, Knuck, Finck-Haimer, and Kawamura-Niimi. The results of the investigations performed demonstrate a perfect topically organized caudal projection of the "associative" cortical areas. The frontal area is projected on the oral ventro-medial parts of the nucleus caudatus head, while the parietal area--on the central and lateral parts at the medial and more caudal levels.  相似文献

It was shown in experiments on rats that penicillin 1 microliter microinjection (100 U) into the caudal nucleus of the spinal tract of the trigeminal nerve, accounting for formation of a generator of pathologically enhanced excitation (GREE), brings about in rats the pain syndrome with characteristic for trigeminal neuralgia behavioural manifestations and the emergence of epileptiform activity in the somatosensory cortex, especially pronounced in the contralateral hemisphere. The emergence of this activity reflects, on the one hand, the action of the GREE in the caudal nucleus of the trigeminal nerve and, on the other hand, the involvement of the somatosensory cortex taking over stimulation from the hyperactive caudal nucleus, into formation of a pathological algic system of this form of trigeminal neuralgia.  相似文献

Oceanobdella khani n. sp. is described from the plain sculpin, Myoxocephalus jaok, from Bristol Bay, Alaska, in the eastern Bering Sea. Prevalence was never greater than 10% in any single collection; maximum intensity was 12 leeches per host, but most fish had 5 or fewer leeches. Oceanobdella khani possesses generic characters of small oral sucker, 5 pairs of testisacs, unremarkable terminal male reproductive organs, coelomic system lacking pulsatile vesicles, and 3 pairs of eyes on the oral sucker-trachelosome. Oceanobdella khani is distinguished from other species in the genus by solid black pigmentation on the urosome, clitellum, trachelosome, and most of the oral sucker except for an unpigmented margin. The pigmentation of the caudal sucker is highly variable, ranging from overall mottled blackish gray to completely unpigmented. The caudal sucker lacks ocelli. Intestinal ceca are large, crop ceca are directed anteriorly, and postceca are separate for their entire length.  相似文献

Neuromediated behaviour of feline caudal femoral arteries was studied in vitro. Transmural stimulation of arteries, previously constricted by noradrenaline, caused an up to 58% relaxation of the induced tone. Atropine (10(-5) g/ml) blocked this response by 93%. The removal of endothelium did not affect the magnitude of the response. It is suggested that the caudal femoral artery is an example of a blood vessel which has muscarinic receptors located directly on its smooth muscles.  相似文献

Brook trout were subjected to soft water at pH 6·5, 5·5 or 5·0 without aluminium added, or to water at pH 5·5 with 200,300 or 500 μg Al I-1 added. The response of the caudal neurosecretory system to low pH or aluminium was evaluated after one week by measuring the urotensin I and urotensin II concentrations in the urophysis by radioimmunoassay, and by morphometric analysis of the caudal neurosecretory cells. A positive correlation was found between urotensin I concentrations and acidity, and a negative correlation was found between urotensin II concentrations and total aluminium in the water. Morphometric indices (cell size and proportion of lobed nuclei in the caudal neurosecretory cells) suggested increased synthetic activity in the caudal neurosecretory cells of fish at pH 5·5 compared to pH 6·5.  相似文献

Single unit responses elicited through noxious mechanical stimulation of orofacial receptive fields were recorded, with glass micro-electrodes, within the rat ventrobasal complex of the thalamus. The evoked activities were compared before and after de-afferentation of the caudal sub-nucleus by trigeminal tractotomy at the level of the obex. Only units responding to noxious stimulation of oral receptive fields were unaffected by tractotomy. These results provide evidence that the rostral part of the spinal nucleus is involved in trigeminal painful sensation.  相似文献

Electrical stimuli applied to the olfactory tract for one minute caused partial depletion, but for two to five minutes resulted in complete depletion of the neurosecretory material (NSM) from the Dahlgren cells as well as from the urophysis. However, if similar stimuli were directly applied to the caudal spinal cord for one minute, the NSM was completely depleted. The neurosecretory granules were reaccumulated in the neurons within fifteen minutes after the stimuli were cut of A rapid depletion of the NSM from the caudal neurons was correlated with their electrical properties and rapid transduction of nervous information into the hormonal message. The immediate response of the caudal neurons to the olfactory tract stimulation suggested that the former are synaptically controlled by a center in the brain.  相似文献

In order to specify the tectal projection to the bulbar/spinal regions, the antidromic responses of the physiologically identified tectal neurons as well as the gross antidromic field responses in the optic tectum to electrical stimuli applied to the caudal medulla were examined in the paralyzed common toad, Bufo bufo. The antidromic field potential was recorded in the optic tectum in response to electrical stimuli applied to the ventral paramedian portion of the contralateral caudal medulla (where the crossed tecto-spinal pathway of Rubinson (1968) and Lázár (1969) runs), but generally not when they were applied to various parts of the ipsilateral caudal medulla. The antidromic field potential was largest at the superficial part of Layer 6 or at the border between Layers 6 and 7 of the optic tectum, indicating that neurons in these layers project to the contralateral caudal medulla. Mapping experiments of the antidromic field potential over the optic tectum showed that the antidromic field potential was recorded mainly in the lateral part of it, indicating that this part of the optic tectum is the main source of projection neurons to the contralateral caudal medulla. Various classes of tectal neurons as well as retinal ganglion neurons were identified from the characteristics of the response properties to moving visual stimuli and the properties of the receptive fields. Of these, the Class T1, T2, T3, T4, T5(1), T5(2), T5(3), and T5(4) tectal neurons were activated antidromically by stimuli applied to the contralateral caudal medulla. Only a limited proportion of the Class T5(1) neurons was activated antidromically by stimuli applied to the ipsilateral caudal medulla. On the other hand, the Class T7 and T8 neurons, as well as the Class R2, R3, and R4 retinal neurons, were not activated antidromically by stimuli applied to the caudal medulla of either side. These results suggest a possibility that these tectal neurons which project to the medullary regions form the substrate of the sensorimotor interfacing and contribute to the initiation or coordination of the visually guided behavior, such as prey-catching.  相似文献

Experiments were done in male Wistar rats to investigate the effects of microinjection of hypocretin-1 (Hcrt-1) into the nucleus of the solitary tract (NTS) on mean arterial pressure (MAP), heart rate (HR), and the baroreflex. In the first series, the distribution of Hcrt-1-like immunoreactivity (Ir) was mapped within the region of NTS. Hcrt-1 Ir was found throughout the NTS region, predominantly within the caudal dorsolateral (Slt), medial (Sm), and interstitial subnuclei of the NTS. In the second series, in alpha-chloralose or urethane-anesthetized rats, microinjection of Hcrt-1 (0.5-5 pmol) into the caudal NTS elicited a dose-dependent decrease in MAP and HR. A mapping of the caudal NTS region showed that the largest depressor and bradycardia responses elicited by Hcrt-1 were from sites in the Slt and Sm. In addition, doses >2.5 pmol at a small number of sites localized to the caudal commissural nucleus of NTS elicited pressor and tachycardia responses. Intravenous administration of the muscarinic receptor blocker atropine methyl bromide abolished the bradycardia response and attenuated the depressor response, whereas subsequent administration of the nicotinic receptor blocker hexamethonium bromide abolished the remaining MAP response. Finally, microinjection of Hcrt-1 into the NTS significantly potentiated the reflex bradycardia to activation of arterial baroreceptors as a result of increasing MAP by systemic injections of phenylephrine (2-4 microg/kg). These results suggest that Hcrt-1 in the NTS activates neuronal circuits that increases vagal activity to the heart, inhibits sympathetic activity to the heart and vasculature, and alters the excitability of NTS neuronal circuits that reflexly control the circulation.  相似文献

It was found that 1 day after unilateral destruction with kainate of neurons in the caudal ventral medulla unanesthetized animals showed disorders of arterial pressure control with a prevalence of hypertensive response. In 7 days after operation there was a decrease in the rate of neuronal uptake of serotonin and an increase in choline-, dopamine-, noradrenaline-, and glycinergic mediation in the basal hypothalamus and rostral ventral medulla, which characterize the functional state of synaptic formations in the brain stem structures connected to neurons in the caudal ventral medulla and involved in cardiovascular regulation.  相似文献

A percutaneous technique of selective partial trigeminal root coagulation was evaluated in the treatment of 38 patients suffering from trigeminal neuralgia, 1 patient with pain secondary to oral carcinoma and 1 patient with atypical facial pain. The pain of trigeminal neuralgia was relieved in 94.7 percent of patients. Pain was relieved in the patient with oral carcinoma, but not in the patient with atypical facial pain. There was no mortality and no permanent morbidity outside of the trigeminal nerve lesion. The procedure requires only a brief hospital stay without the time, expense and hazards of open cranial surgical procedures.  相似文献

The epithelium lining the caudal surface of the mouse epiglottis occupies the transitional zone between the keratinized stratified squamous epithelium, continuing from the oral cavity, and the ciliated columnar epithelium, extending into the laryngeal cavity. The epithelium showed gradations ranging from stratified squamous through stratified cuboidal to ciliated stratified low-columnar type. It is suggested that the epithelium is identical with the 'intermediate epithelium' in the mouse nasopharynx.  相似文献

The fine structure of the sapropelic ciliate Saprodinium dentatum is described based on phase-contrast microscopy, silver-staining techniques, cryo-fracture scanning electron microscopy, and thin sections. The study concentrates on a detailed analysis of the somatic cortex and the oral ciliature of this highly asymmetric, laterally compressed ciliate. The cell shape is dominated by a number of site-specific spines and the curving course of 10 somatic kineties (SK 1–10). The SK, composed of dikinetids, show an intrakinety differentiation that seems characteristic for other odontostomes as well. The anterior segment of the SK is mostly ciliated, followed by a non-ciliated segment in which the kinetosomes lack all typical fiber systems. Except for SK 4–6, the posterior segment is ciliated again, forming the spine kinetics associated with particular caudal spines. The anterior segment of SK 3 through SK 7 form the frontal band, which together with the two frontal kineties constitutes the main locomotory organelle for a ciliate that creeps on the substratum. A short kinety with inverse polarity, not seen in earlier light microscopical studies, was observed near the oral spine. We made particular effort to find a logical explanation for the observed association of the SK with the various caudal spines. The oral ciliature consists of nine adoral organelles located in a tripartite oral cavity. The absence of a paroral ciliature together with the position of the cytostome anterior to the adoral organelles may be the result of rotational movement of the oral apparatus during the evolution of these bizarre ciliates. Results are discussed with special reference to the phylogenetic relationship of the Odontostomatida to the Heterotrichida and no conclusive answer was found in this first electron microscopical study of an odontostomatid ciliate.  相似文献

An original behavioral test was used to study the effect of opioid substances on the thresholds of nociceptive responses to pain stimuli—a series of electric impulses applied to nerve endings of the caudal fin—in the common carp (Cyprinus carpio). The substances tested included tramadol (μ-agonist of opioid receptors), DADLE (δ-agonist), and U-50488 (κ-agonist) injected intramuscularly in concentrations 10–100 nmol/g of body weight. Raised thresholds of sensitivity to the pain stimulus were observed in the studied fish 5 to 15 min after the injection. The degree of analgesia and the rate of its increase varied depending on the dose. The total duration of analgesia was 40 to 90 min and depended on the concentration of the injected substance. It was observed in some experiments that the analgesic effect of tramadol (the most efficient of the analgesics used) could last longer than 4 h. The analgesic effect of opioids was not detected in experiments where they were applied together with naloxone, an antagonist of opioids. Decreased motor response to pain stimuli after injections of analgesics was not caused by the immobilization of the animal, because the tested fish individuals released into an aquarium demonstrated normal swimming and their usual behavior. We concluded that the systems of opioid nociceptive regulation function similarly in fish and land vertebrates. This regulation can play an important role in defense behavior and in other behaviors in fish.  相似文献

Elevated creatine kinase (CK) in the circulation was generally regarded to be a passive release from muscle damage. We utilized proteomic methodologies to characterize amphioxus humoral fluid APPs in response to caudal trauma, and found several spots of CK alterations with up-regulation and pI shift. Its amount and enzyme activity showed a dynamic pattern of APP in humoral fluid accompanied with a reduction in enzyme activity of muscle, whereas there was no significant difference in CK amount of muscle and the other tissues and in CK enzyme activity of the other tissues between different time points of sample collection following caudal trauma. In addition, CK phosphorylation regulation during injury was not achieved by monoclonal antibodies separately against phosphothreonine, phosphotyrosine, and phosphoserine. These results suggested that the CK elevation of humoral fluid might be from muscle, being an active response to caudal trauma rather than a passive release from muscle damage. Therefore, CK ability in response to caudal trauma should be highly concerned.  相似文献
