Abstract

This paper deals with the internal structures of the stomachs of the atyid prawns Caridina africana, Atyaephyra desmaresti desmaresti and A. d. orientalis and of the palaemonid prawns Palaemon elegans and Palaemonetes antennarius. Abstract

The variation of 21 morphological parameters was investigated in populations of Atyaephyra desmaresti desmaresti and A. desmaresti orientalis in order to find differences between the sexes and to assess the degree of infraspecific variation. Differences between the sexes were found in three proportional characters of A. desmaresti desmaresti and in five characters of A. desmaresti orientalis. Also, the difference in one meristic character was found to be significant in both subspecies.  相似文献

The study compared the selectivity of 50 mm mesh size conventional (T0) and 90° turned mesh (T90) demersal trawl codends for four commercial shrimp species (Aristaeomorpha foliacea, Aristeus antennatus, Parapenaeus longirostris and Plesionika martia) in the Bay of Antalya in the eastern Mediterranean. Data were collected from 27 valid hauls using the covered codend method. Selectivity parameters were obtained using the logistic equation with the maximum likelihood method and by taking into account the between‐haul variations. Results show that changing the codends from T0 to T90 increases the percentage of escapees for all four targeted shrimp species. According to species, a change in the mesh configuration significantly increases L50 by 7–14%. However, for the two commercially important red shrimp species (Aristaeomorpha foliacea and Aristeus antennatus), even the L50 values obtained in the T90 codend (23.3 mm) remain rather low for the release of sufficient numbers of immature specimens. First maturity sizes (FMS) for these two species are 38 and 30 mm, respectively; therefore, for their sustainable exploitation, additional management measures must be investigated including larger mesh sizes.  相似文献

Eighteen microsatellite loci were isolated and characterized from the blue and red shrimp, Aristeus antennatus Risso 1816, a commercially exploited marine crustacean widely distributed throughout the Mediterranean Sea and in the eastern Atlantic. Polymorphism was assessed in a population (n = 20) from the southwestern Sardinian seas; 14 loci resulted polymorphic and showed from three to 13 alleles. The observed heterozygosity ranged from 0.2 to 0.85. These microsatellites will be potentially useful for the study of A. antennatus population genetic structure.  相似文献

Summary The seasonal occurrence ofAtyaephyra desmaresti in The Netherlands has been studied by sampling the cooling-water filtering screens of power stations situated along the rivers Rhine and Meuse. The shrimps were only found in large numbers at the two power stations with vegetation in the cooling-water intake areas. Fluctuations in the seasonal occurrence showed great similarity for these two localities. Highest numbers of shrimps were impinged in November. High numbers also occurred in September, while a lower peak in numbers was found in May.Changes in the numbers of records during the last 30 years in The Netherlands were compared with climatological fluctuations (severe or mild winters), indicating that this mainly southern-European species is living here at the limits of its ecological and geographical range.The distribution in The Netherlands reveals thatAtyaephyra desmaresti mainly occurs in freshwater habitats, although it tolerates higher chlorinities.  相似文献

Phylogeographical studies can reveal hidden patterns in the evolutionary history of species. Comparative analyses of closely related species can further help disentangle the relative contributions of processes responsible for such patterns. In this work, the phylogeography of two aristeid species, Aristeus antennatus and Aristaeomorpha foliacea, was compared through multiple genetic markers. These marine shrimp species are of high commercial importance, and are exploited in the Mediterranean Sea (MED) and in Mozambique Channel (MOZ) where they occur in partial sympatry. Aristeus antennatus (N = 50) from Western and Eastern Mediterranean (WM and EM, respectively), Atlantic Ocean (AO) and MOZ, and Aristaeomorpha foliacea (N = 40) from WM, EM, MOZ North-Western Australia (AUS) were analyzed with two nuclear genes (PEPCK and NaK) and one mitochondrial (COI) gene. Within the study area differences were found between the two species in their phylogeographical patterns, suggesting distinct responses to environmental changes. Monophyly of Aristeus antennatus was found across its distributional range. This pattern contrasted by a deep evolutionary split within Aristaeomorpha foliacea where genetic diversity followed geography distinguishing MED-MOZ and AUS. We propose that the AUS lineage of A. foliacea warrants consideration as a distinct species, with consequent implications in systematics and resource management.  相似文献

We test the hypothesis that accumulated metal in prey that is trophically available to one predator is not necessarily equally trophically available to another predator feeding on the same prey, given the variability between invertebrate digestive systems. We provided two predators, the neogastropod mollusc Hinia reticulata and the palaemonid decapod crustacean Palaemonetes varians, with the digestive glands and adductor muscles of four bivalves radiolabelled with Zn, Cd or Ag. The bivalves (the mussel Mytilus edulis, the clam Ruditapes philippinarum, the scallop Aequipecten opercularis, the oyster Crassostrea gigas) have different metal accumulation patterns with differential dependence on soluble and insoluble detoxification, as confirmed by fractionation of the prey tissues. We found no consistent significant difference between the AE of the two predators for the three trace metals accumulated in the same prey tissues. There were no significant correlations for either predator between percentages of metal in soluble form (or soluble form with organelle-associated metal) and percentage AE for any of the three metals, allowing the conclusion that both predators are assimilating each metal from more than the soluble and organelle-associated metal fractions. For neither predator did an increased percentage of Zn in the form of metal rich granules (MRG) affect its Zn AE, but increases in the percentages of both Cd and Ag bound to MRG decreased the AE of the relevant metal in P. varians but not H. reticulata. Thus the Cd and Ag in some Cd-rich and Ag-rich granules in the bivalve tissues are not as trophically available to P. varians as they are to H. reticulata. This interspecific difference confirms that the neogastropod has the stronger digestive and assimilative powers involving Cd and Ag bound in prey than the palaemonid decapod.  相似文献

Increased heavy metal pollution generated through anthropogenic activities into the environment has necessitated the need for eco-friendly remediation strategies such as mycoremediation. With a view to prospecting for fungi with heavy metal remediation potentials, the tolerance of five Aspergillus species isolated from soils of three active gold and gemstone mining sites in southwestern Nigeria to varied heavy metal concentrations was investigated. Isolated Aspergillus strains were identified based on the internal transcribed spacer 1 and 2 (ITS 1 and ITS 2) regions. Growth of Aspergillus strains were challenged with a range of varied concentrations of heavy metals: cadmium (Cd) (0–100), copper (Cu) (0–1000), lead (Pb) (0–400), arsenic (As) (0–500), and iron (Fe) (0–800) concentrations (ppm) incorporated into Malt Extract Agar (MEA) in triplicates. Mycelial radial growths were recorded at intervals of 3 days during a 13-day incubation period. Aspergillus strains were identified as A. tubingensis, A. fumigatus, A. terreus, A. nidulans, and A. nomius. A. tubingensis tolerated Cd, Cu, Pb, As, and Fe at all test concentrations (100–1000 ppm), showing no significant (p > .05) difference compared with the control. Similarly, A. nomius tolerated all concentrations of Cu, Pb, As, and Fe and only 50 ppm Cd concentrations. A. nidulans, A. terreus, and A. fumigatus, on the other hand, tolerated all concentrations of Cu, Pb, and Fe with no statistical significance (p > .05) difference from the controls. Overall, the Aspergillus species showed tolerance to heavy metal concentrations above permissible limits for contaminated soils globally. These heavy metal tolerance traits exhibited by the Aspergillus isolates may suggest that they are potential candidates for bioremediation of heavy metal–polluted environments.  相似文献

Concentration of heavy metals (lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), and copper (Cu)) was determined in the liver, gills, kidneys, and muscles of eight edible fish species (Channa punctata, Cirrhinus reba, Labeo rohita, Heteropneustes fossilis, Mystus cavasius, Oreochromis niloticus, Puntius sophore, and Wallago attu) from upstream and downstream zones of the Nullah Aik and Palkhu tributaries of the River Chenab located in the Sialkot district known for its tanning industries worldwide. The pattern of metal accumulation in studied organs was in the order: Cr > Pb > Cu > Cd. Liver showed greater metal accumulation, followed by gills, kidneys, and muscles. Accumulation of Pb and Cr was significantly different in organs between upstream and downstream zones. Accumulation was greater in fish species dwelling downstream, indicating impairment of ambient stream water due to untreated discharge of industrial and municipal effluents into studied streams. Highest concentration of Pb and Cr and lowest of Cd was detected in H. fossilis whereas Cu showed higher concentration and Cr lowest concentration in P. sophore. In contrast, lower concentration of Pb and Cu was recorded in M. cavasius, O. niloticus, and W. attu. Mean concentrations of Cd, Cr, and Cu were higher in pre-monsoon compared to post-monsoon season. Measured concentrations of Pb, Cd, and Cr in muscles of species such as C. punctata, W. attu, L. rohita, P. sophore, and O. niloticus were above permissible limits of heavy metals for human consumption, indicating potential health risks. Therefore, these fish species from studied locations should be avoided for human diet.  相似文献

In the present work the extent and variation of Zn, Cd, Pb, Cu, and Hg loading in undisturbed surface soil (0–5 cm) and the vertical transport of the metals in soil profiles are studied in the vicinity of a zinc smelter in Norway. Three major controlling factors on the metal concentrations in soil have been assessed: 1) distance from the anthropogenic point source; 2) organic matter content (O.M.); and 3) the prevailing wind directions. Moreover metal distributions in proximal soil profiles in 1972 and 2003 are compared. Current concentrations of Zn, Cd, Pb, Cu, and Hg in surface soil reach 14000, 60, 980, 430, and 7.0 mg·kg ? 1 , respectively, near the smelter and decrease regularly with distance in the northerly direction according to the regression model (y = ax? b ). The Zn concentrations are significantly different from the background range up to 30 km from the smelter, whereas the other metals approach background at only 10 km distance. Subsurface concentration peaks of Pb, Cu, and Hg are found at greater depth in soil profiles than peaks of Zn and Cd. Levels of Zn, Cd, and Pb in surface soil seem to have decreased from 1972 to 2003, whereas for Cu the levels appear not to be significantly different.  相似文献

该研究选取杭州市2个污染区常见的6种绿化树种叶片作为材料,以清洁区为对照,采用电感耦合等离子体发射光谱法,测定受试树种叶内及对应样点降尘、土壤中Pb、Cd、Cr、Cu、Ni和Zn的含量,分析叶片的吸污能力以及重金属含量与土壤、降尘的相关性。结果表明:(1)污染区树种重金属含量明显高于对照区,绿化树种对环境重金属污染物有一定的吸收能力,重金属含量在不同的树种中具有明显差异;所测树种叶内Zn含量最大,Pb次之,Cd最小,指示能力则以枸骨(Ilex cornuta)对Cd和Pb、圆柏(Juniperus chinensis)对Cu、茶花(Camellia japonica)对Ni、广玉兰(Magnolia grandiflora)对Zn为最强。(2)3个样点树种叶片与对应样点土壤、降尘中重金属元素含量的相关性分析和回归分析表明,叶片重金属含量与土壤重金属含量的相关性较小,而与降尘呈显著正相关。因此,绿化树种叶片作为空气重金属污染的累积器和监测器是科学合理的,且上述4种树种对杭州市空气中6种重金属污染的指示作用具有一定参考价值,可作为监测城市空气质量的特型树种。该研究结果为减少城市空气重金属污染提供了科学依据和理论支持。  相似文献

Absolute and relative fecundity of 49 ripe gonads (from the cephalic and the abdominal sections of the same specimen) of Aristaeomorpha foliacea and 71 ripe gonads of Aristeus antennatus caught in the Ionian Sea (E. Mediterranean) and their oocyte size were studied. Both average absolute and relative fecundities estimated for A. antennatus were statistically higher than those estimated for A. foliacea; the average absolute fecundity of A. foliacea was 151 936 oocytes/female and that of A. antennatus was 200 472 oocytes/female and the average relative fecundity of A. foliacea was 5477 oocytes/g and that of A. antennatus was 9386 oocytes/g. Fecundity in both red shrimp species is linearly related to carapace length, body and gonad weight, although, the most precise estimation is provided by the relationship of body weight and fecundity. In the present study, the oocyte size (diameter, volume) of both species could be considered very large. In conclusion, A. foliacea shows lower fecundity than A. antennatus, having a lower ovogenetic activity, but it produces larger oocytes. This is in accordance with the highest value of the gonad weight and gonad volume of A. foliacea exhibited in relation to A. antennatus.  相似文献

In this study, concentrations of heavy metals (Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb, and Zn) were determined in three edible mushroom species (Lactarius deliciosus, Russula delica, and Rhizopogon roseolus) collected in five sampling sites in Canakkale province, Turkey. Mean values of Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb, and Zn were 0.72, 0.26, 28.34, 1.53, and 64.62 mg/kg, respectively. The highest concentrations of Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn were determined in species R. delica, while Cr was observed in L. deliciosus. In terms of the nutritional aspect, taking into account the concentration of Provisional Tolerable Weekly Intake recommended by FAO/WHO, the maximum concentration of Cd is a restrictive factor for consumption of the collected mushroom species. The concentrations of the other elements have no health risks when consumed at optimal levels.  相似文献

The relationships between the concentrations of zinc, cadmium and lead in aquatic plants and the concentrations of these metals in the ambient water have been compared for three algae (Lemanea fluviatilis, Cladophora glomerata, Stigeoclonium tenue), one liverwort (Scapania undulata) and three mosses (Amblystegium riparium, Fontinalis antipyretica, Rhynchostegium riparioides). The data to establish these relationships are all based on our own studies, some published already, some here for the first time. They come from a wide range of streams and rivers in Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy and the U.K. There were significant bivariate positive relationships between concentrations of Zn, Cd and Pb in water and plant for all species except Cd and Pb in Stigeoclonium tenue. When relationships were compared using datasets with total or filtrable metals in water, most differences were slight. However there were marked differences both between species and between metals. Comparison for the seven species of Zn in the plant when aqueous Zn is 0.01 mg l–1, a concentration at which all seven were found, shows that the four bryophytes had the highest concentrations; however the two green algae had steeper slopes (representing change in concentration in plant in response to change in aqueous concentration). Lemanea fluviatilis had a slope closer to that of the bryophytes, but the concentration was about one order of magnitude lower. All seven species were found at a concentration of 0.01 mg l–1 Pb, and at this concentration there were almost two orders of magnitude difference between the species which accumulated the most (Scapania undulata) and the one which accumulated the least (Cladophora glomerata). The steepest slope was however shown by C. glomerata.When multiple stepwise regression was applied, the aqueous metal under consideration was the first variable extracted in only nine of the 21 regressions. However one of the other heavy metals (aqueous or accumulated) was extracted first in all but one of the other regressions, presumably because the occurrences of Zn, Cd and Pb were strongly cross-correlated. The principal non-heavy metal factor extracted for Zn and Cd, but not Pb, was aqueous Ca. The relevance of these results to the use of aquatic plants for monitoring heavy metals is discussed.  相似文献

Periphyton constitutes an important community that is useful for assessment of ecological conditions in lotic systems. The objective of this study was to assess the effects of different mixtures of Cd and Pb on periphyton growth as well as Cd and Pb mixtures toxicity to diatom assemblages in laboratory mesocosm experiments. A natural periphyton community sampled from the Monjolinho River (South of Brazil) was inoculated into five experimental systems containing clean glass substrates for periphyton colonization. The communities were exposed to mixtures of dissolved Cd and Pb concentrations of 0.01 and 0.1 mg l−1 Cd and 0.033 and 0.1 mg l−1 Pb. Periphyton ash-free dry weight, growth rate, diatom cell density and diatom community composition were analyzed on samples collected after 1, 2 and 3 weeks of colonization. High Cd concentration (0.1 mg l−1) has negative effects on periphyton growth while high concentration of Pb (0.1 mg l−1) decreased the toxic effects of Cd on periphyton growth. Shifts in species composition (development of more resistant species like Achnanthidium minutissimum and reduction of sensitive ones like Cymbopleura naviculiformis, Fragilaria capucina, Navicula cryptocephala, Encyonema silesiacum, Eunotia bilunaris, and Gomphonema parvulum), decreases in species diversity of diatom communities with increasing Cd and Pb concentrations and exposure duration have been demonstrated in this study making diatom communities appropriate monitors of metal mixtures in aquatic systems.  相似文献

Concentrations of Fe, Pb, Cu, Zn and Cd were determined during one season in the red alga Gracilaria verrucosa, sediment and seawater from the Thermaikos Gulf, Greece. This region has been subject to change due to increases in industrial and domestic activities. The relative abundance of metals in G. verrucosa and seawater decreased in the order: Fe>Zn>Pb>Cu>Cd and in the sediment: Pb>Fe>Zn>Cu>Cd. Cadmium concentration in the alga correlated positively with that in seawater. There was positive correlation between Fe concentrations in the alga and those of the Zn and Cu. The concentrations of metals in the alga showed no significant differences between the stations. Lead, Zn and Cu concentrations in the alga were slightly higher at Biamyl, whereas Cd was higher at Perea and Fe at Nea Krini. Seasonal variation of metal concentrations in the alga was significant for Cd and Fe. Copper and Fe increased from winter to summer, whereas Cd was the opposite. Zinc concentrations were minimum and Pb concentrations were maximum during spring. These variations are discussed in relation to tissue age, life cycle, ambient concentrations of metals and other environmental conditions. Cd and Pb concentrations inG. verrucosa in the Thermaikos Gulf were higher and those of Cu and Zn were lower than in other species of the genus. Cd and Pb contents in soil, plants, and two grasshopper species (Locusta migratoria manilensis and Acrida chinensis) were examined to quantify the influence ranges of zinc smelting on heavy metal contamination. Samples were collected simultaneously from Huludao City, a chemical and nonferrous smelting base in Northeast China. Cd and Pb contamination in soil and plants were serious. Cd and Pb contents were 13.32 and 8.83 mg/kg in L. migratoria manilensis and 16.67 and 15.00 mg/kg in A. chinensis, respectively. Correlation analysis indicated the same metal source for Cd and Pb in soil, plants, and grasshoppers. Cd and Pb contents in soil, plants, and grasshoppers were all significantly related to distances far from the zinc smelter in good negative logarithm model. The fitting curves indicated that the influence radius of the smelter on heavy metal contamination was about 4,000 m for soil and plants and about 2,000 m for grasshoppers.  相似文献

The concentrations of Pb and Cd, and trace elements (Cu and Zn) in the urban topsoil, rook (Corvus frugilegus) feces and feathers and human scalp hair were analyzed to examine the potential ecological risk posed by Pb and Cd on local residents of Qiqihar City, northeastern China. Results revealed that the Cd concentrations in the topsoil were ranged from 0.14 to 3.55 mg kg?1 dry weight (dw). The maximal geoaccumulation indices [a value from logarithmic (a measured metal content/1.5 × background content of the metal in this region), introduced by Muller] of Cd exceeded 3.5, which suggested that this region was seriously contaminated by Cd. The corresponding average detectable concentrations in C. frugilegus feathers and feces were 1.38 and 3.97 mg kg?1 dw for Pb and 1.04 and 0.69 mg kg?1 dw for Cd. High Pb and Cd concentrations, respectively, ranging from 7.46 to 24.9 mg kg?1 dw and from 0.35 to 0.92 mg kg?1 dw were also detected in the human scalp hair samples. These high Pb and Cd concentrations in C. frugilegus and local people were possibly associated with local industrial wastes and vehicle exhausts. The external tissues (feces and feather) of the rook species can be considered as an indicator of potential Cd toxic risk in this species; however, the human scalp hair is not a reliable biomarker for risk of Pb and Cd in the human being. Effective measures should be established to reduce the inputs of Pb and Cd into the urban environment and to protect the health of local people.  相似文献

We studied the relationships between testate amoeba communities and heavy metal (Pb, Cd, Zn, Ni, Cu, Mn, and Fe) concentrations in the moss Barbula indica sampled at 29 sites in and around the city of Hanoi (Vietnam). Our first approach was to compare the heavy metal concentrations and testate amoeba variables between the city (zone 1) and the surrounding (zone 2). Mean moss concentrations of Pb, Cd, Zn, Ni, and Cu were significantly higher and testate amoeba species richness and abundance were significantly lower in zone 1 and the abundance of eight taxa differed significantly between the two zones. We then studied the correlation between heavy metals and testate amoebae. Species richness and abundance were correlated negatively to Pb concentration. Shannon H′ was negatively correlated to both Pb and Cd. The abundance of several species was negatively correlated with Pb, Cd, Zn, and Ni; however, at the community level, Pb emerged as the only significant variable in a redundancy analysis. Our results suggest that testate amoebae are sensitive to and may be good bioindicators for heavy metal pollution, especially lead. Further research is needed to understand the causal relationships underlying the observed patterns.  相似文献

Nekton was sampled in five marshes along the salinity gradient of the Schelde River. The utilisation of three different habitats (large and small creek, marsh pond) by fish and macrocrustacean species was compared among the five sampling sites. In the larger channels fyke nets were deployed to capture fish and macrocrustaceans leaving the marsh at ebb while block nets were set in smaller intertidal creeks. Fish traps passively sampled fish and shrimp in the marsh ponds. The tidal freshwater marsh had a species poor fauna and only a low number of fish was caught. Besides some freshwater species (Alburnoides bipunctatus, Carassius carassius) the European eel, Anguilla anguilla was still present. The four other marshes had a similar community structure although Platichthys flesus was absent from the euhaline area. Among fish species, dominance of Dicentrarchus labrax, Platichthys flesus and Pomatoschistus microps was observed. Carcinus maenas and Palaemonetes varians were the most abundant macrocrustacean species in every marsh. Between the large and small intertidal creeks there was no difference in nekton species composition. The main species used both habitats. Marsh ponds were utilized intensively only by two species, Pomatoschistus microps and Palaemonetes varians in every marsh.  相似文献
