For 20 weeks, the physiological responses of Euonymus japonica plants to different irrigation sources were studied. Four irrigation treatments were applied at 100 % water holding capacity: control (electrical conductivity (EC) <0.9 dS m?1); irrigation water normally used in the area (irrigator’s water) IW (EC: 1.7 dS m?1); NaCl solution, NaCl (EC: 4 dS m?1); and wastewater, WW (EC: 4 dS m?1). This was followed by a recovery period of 13 weeks, when all the plants were rewatered with the same amount and quality of irrigation water as the control plants. Despite the differences in the chemical properties of the water used, the plants irrigated with NaCl and WW showed similar alterations in growth and size compared with the control even at the end of the recovery period. Leaf number was affected even when the EC of the irrigation water was of 1.7 dS m?1 (IW), indicating the salt sensitivity of this parameter. Stomatal conductance (gs) and photosynthesis (Pn), as well as stem water potential (Ψstem), were most affected in plants irrigated with the most saline waters (NaCl and WW). At the end of the experiment the above parameters recovered, while IW plants showed similar values to the control. The higher Na+ and Cl+ uptake by NaCl and WW plants led them to show osmotic adjustment throughout the experiment. The highest amount of boron found in WW plants did not affect root growth. Wastewater can be used as a water management strategy for ornamental plant production, as long as the water quality is not too saline, since the negative effect of salt on the aesthetic value of plants need to be taken into consideration.  相似文献

Lateral root developmental plasticity induced by mild water stress was examined across a high‐resolution series of growth media water potentials (Ψw) in two genotypes of maize. The suitability of several media for imposing near‐stable Ψw treatments on transpiring plants over prolonged growth periods was assessed. Genotypic differences specific to responses of lateral root growth from the primary root system occurred between cultivars FR697 and B73 over a narrow series of water stress treatments ranging in Ψw from ?0.25 to ?0.40 MPa. In FR697, both the average length and number of first‐order lateral roots were substantially enhanced at a Ψw of ?0.25 MPa compared with well‐watered controls. These effects were separated spatially, occurring primarily in the upper and lower regions of the axial root, respectively. Furthermore, first‐order lateral roots progressively increased in diameter with increasing water stress, resulting in a maximum 2.3‐fold increase in root volume at a Ψw of ?0.40 MPa. In B73, in contrast, the length, diameter, nor number of lateral roots was increased in any of the water stress treatments. The genotype‐specific responses observed over this narrow range of Ψw demonstrate the necessity of high‐resolution studies at mild stress levels for characterization of lateral root developmental plasticity.  相似文献

Laboratory experiments were performed to evaluate observed seasonal changes in leaf morphology of the desert perennial shrub, Encelia farinosa Gray. Plants were grown under low or high conditions of photosynthetically active irradiation, soil water potential (Ψsoil), and leaf temperature (8 different experimental regimes). The relative growth rate, leaf water vapor conductance, leaf water potential, and leaf length were all greater for the high Ψsoil regimes, the largest leaves occurring at low irradiation. High irradiation during growth led to thicker leaves with a higher internal to external leaf area ratio (Ames/A); low Ψsoil tended to increase Ames/A somewhat. High irradiation also led to decreased absorptance to solar irradiation caused by increased pubescence. High leaf temperature during development resulted in slightly smaller, thicker leaves with higher Ames/A. Thus, irradiation appeared to have its major influence on leaf thickness, Ames/A, and absorptance, with a secondary effect on leaf length; Ψsoil affected primarily leaf length, growth rate, and water status, and secondarily Ames/A. Results are discussed with regard to recent ecophysiological studies on the observed seasonal changes in leaf morphology of E. farinosa.  相似文献

Stands of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L. cv. Kadiri‐3) were grown in controlled environment glasshouses at mean atmospheric CO2 concentrations of 375 or 700 μmol mol?1 and daily mean air temperatures of 28 or 32°C on irrigated or drying soil profiles. Leaf water (Ψl) and solute potential (Ψs), relative water content (RWC), stomatal conductance (gl) and net photosynthesis (Pn) were measured at midday for the youngest mature leaf throughout the growing season. Elevated CO2 and temperature had no detectable effect on the water relations of irrigated plants, but higher values of RWC, Ψl and Ψs were maintained for longer under elevated CO2 during progressive drought. Turgor potential (Ψp) reached zero when Ψl declined to ?1.6 to ?1.8 MPa in all treatments; turgor was lost sooner when droughted plants were grown under ambient CO2. A 4°C increase in mean air temperature had no effect on Ψs in droughted plants, but elicited a small increase in Ψl; midday gl values were lower under elevated than under ambient CO2, and Ψl and gl declined below ?1.5 MPa and 0.25 cm s?1, respectively, as the soil dried. Despite the low gl values recorded for droughted plants late in the season, Pn was maintained under elevated CO2, but declined to zero 3 weeks before final harvest under ambient CO2. Concurrent reductions in gl and increases in water use efficiency under elevated CO2 prolonged photosynthetic activity during drought and increased pod yields relative to plants grown under ambient CO2. The implications of future increases in atmospheric CO2 for the productivity of indeterminate C3 crops grown in rainfed subsistence agricultural systems in the semi‐arid tropics are discussed.  相似文献

In peach (Prunus persica [L.] Batsch.), sorbitol and sucrose are the two main forms of photosynthetic and translocated carbon and may have different functions depending on the organ of utilization and its developmental stage. The role and interaction of sorbitol and sucrose metabolism was studied in mature leaves (source) and shoot tips (sinks) of ‘Nemaguard’ peach under drought stress. Plants were irrigated daily at rates of 100, 67, and 33% of evapotranspiration (ET). The relative elongation rate (RER) of growing shoots was measured daily. In mature leaves, water potential (Ψw), osmotic potential (Ψs), sorbitol‐6‐phosphate dehydrogenase (S6PDH, EC 1.1.1.200), and sucrose‐phosphate synthase (SPS, EC 2.4.1.14) activities were measured weekly. Measurements of Ψs, sorbitol dehydrogenase (SDH, 1.1.1.14), sucrose synthase (SS, EC 2.4.1.13), acid invertase (AI, EC 3.2.1.26), and neutral invertase (NI, EC 3.2.1.27) activities were taken weekly in shoot tips. Drought stress reduced RER and Ψw of plants in proportion to water supply. Osmotic adjustment was detected by the second week of treatment in mature leaves and by the third week in shoot tips. Both SDH and S6PDH activities were reduced by drought stress within 4 days of treatment and positively correlated with overall Ψw levels. However, only SDH activity was correlated with Ψs. Among the sucrose enzymes, only SS was affected by drought, being reduced after 3 weeks. Sorbitol accumulation in both mature leaves and shoot tips of stressed plants was observed starting from the second week of treatment and reached up to 80% of total solutes involved in osmotic adjustment. Sucrose content was up to 8‐fold lower than sorbitol content and accumulated only occasionally. We conclude that a loss of SDH activity in sinks leads to osmotic adjustment via sorbitol accumulation in peach. We propose an adaptive role of sorbitol metabolism versus a maintenance role of sucrose metabolism in peach under drought stress.  相似文献

Recent work has shown that stomatal conductance (gs) and assimilation (A) are responsive to changes in the hydraulic conductance of the soil to leaf pathway (KL), but no study has quantitatively described this relationship under controlled conditions where steady‐state flow is promoted. Under steady‐state conditions, the relationship between gs, water potential (Ψ) and KL can be assumed to follow the Ohm's law analogy for fluid flow. When boundary layer conductance is large relative to gs, the Ohm's law analogy leads to gs = KLsoilleaf)/D, where D is the vapour pressure deficit. Consequently, if stomata regulate Ψleaf and limit A, a reduction in KL will cause gs and A to decline. We evaluated the regulation of Ψleaf and A in response to changes in KL in well‐watered ponderosa pine seedlings (Pinus ponderosa). To vary KL, we systematically reduced stem hydraulic conductivity (k) using an air injection technique to induce cavitation while simultaneously measuring Ψleaf and canopy gas exchange in the laboratory under constant light and D. Short‐statured seedlings (< 1 m tall) and hour‐long equilibration times promoted steady‐state flow conditions. We found that Ψleaf remained constant near ? 1·5 MPa except at the extreme 99% reduction of k when Ψleaf fell to ? 2·1 MPa. Transpiration, gs, A and KL all declined with decreasing k (P < 0·001). As a result of the near homeostasis in bulk Ψleaf, gs and A were directly proportional to KL (R2 > 0·90), indicating that changes in KL may affect plant carbon gain.  相似文献

Sap flow rate (Qw) and leaf water potential (Ψw.leaf) in adult specimens of birch (Betula) and oak (Quercus) were measured under contrasting soil moisture conditions (Ψw.sofl). With sufficient soil moisture Qw reached about 250 cm3h−1 calculated per unit tree-trunk segment as given by 1 cm length of its circumference. In soil water-stress conditions (when Ψw.leaf = = −15 × 105Pa), birch stopped transpiration and wilted. Oak transpired even when Ψw.leaf fell below −20 × 105Pa. The relation between Qw and Ψw.leaf was always linear and with various Ψw.soil differed in the slopes of regression lines only. Hydraulic conductance (Kwcu) with nonlimiting moisture conditions reached about 6 × 10−9m3 10−5Pa−1s−1 and “conductivity” (“kwa”) when calculated per leaf area unit reached about 23 m 10−5Pa−1s−1. Kwcu and “kwa” were of about one half to nine times greater in birch than in oak. On the basis of relations between Ψw.soil at various depths, Ψw.leaf and Qw (resp. Kw) it is possible to assess the maximal rooting depth and the effective depth where the maximum of absorption of roots occurs. It is to be seen that the root system macrostructure substantially participates in the drought avoidance of adult trees in a forest stand.  相似文献

The relationship between the water potential (Ψw) and the water saturation deficit (Δ W sat) in kale and maize leaf tissue was measured during dehydration and resaturation either of leavesin situ or of cut leaves. The curves relating Ψw toΔW sat were similar in all variants, but at the same values ofΔ W sat corresponding values of Ψw were always lower in leavesin situ than in cut leaves and during dehydration than during resaturation.  相似文献

Quercus ilex L. growing in the southern Mediterranean Basin region is exposed to xylem embolism induced by both winter freezing and summer drought. The distribution of the species in Sicily could be explained in terms of the different vulnerability to embolism of its xylem conduits. Naturally occurring climatic conditions were simulated by: (1) maintaining plants for 3h at ambient temperatures of 0, -1.5, -2.5, -5.0 and -11°C; and (2) allowing plants to dry out to ratios of their minimum diurnal leaf water potentials (Ψ1) to that at the turgor loss point (Ψtlp) of 0.6, 0.9, 1.05, 1.20 and 1.33. The loss of hydraulic conductivity of one-year-old twigs reached 40% at -1.5°C and at Ψ1tlP= 1.05. Recovery from these strains was almost complete 24 h after the release of thermal stress or after one irrigation, respectively. More severe stresses reduced recovery consistently. The percentages of xylem conduits embolized following application of the two stresses, were positively related to xylem conduit diameter. The capability of the xylem conduits to recover from stress was positively related to the conduit diameter in plants subjected to summer drought, but not in the plants subjected to winter freezing stress. The ecological significance of the different vulnerabilities to embolism of xylem conduits under naturally occurring climatic conditions is discussed.  相似文献

The impact of xylem cavitation and embolism on leaf (K leaf) and stem (K stem) hydraulic conductance was measured in current-year shoots of Cercis siliquastrum L. (Judas tree) using the vacuum chamber technique. K stem decreased at leaf water potentials (ΨL) lower than ?1.0 MPa, while K leaf started to decrease only at ΨL L K leaf changes. Field measurements of leaf conductance to water vapour (g L) and ΨL showed that stomata closed when ΨL decreased below the ΨL threshold inducing loss of hydraulic conductance in the leaf. The partitioning of hydraulic resistances within shoots and leaves was measured using the high-pressure flow meter method. The ratio of leaf to shoot hydraulic resistance was about 0.8, suggesting that stem cavitation had a limited impact on whole shoot hydraulic conductance. We suggest that stomatal aperture may be regulated by the cavitation-induced reduction of hydraulic conductance of the soil-to-leaf water pathway which, in turn, strongly depends on the hydraulic architecture of the plant and, in particular, on leaf hydraulics.  相似文献

Although precipitation plays a central role in structuring Africa’s miombo woodlands, remarkably little is known about plant-water relations in this seasonally dry tropical forest. Therefore, in this study, we investigated xylem vulnerability to cavitation for nine principal tree species of miombo woodlands, which differ in habitat preference and leaf phenology. We measured cavitation vulnerability (Ψ50), stem-area specific hydraulic conductivity (K S), leaf specific conductivity (K L), seasonal variation in predawn water potential (ΨPD) and xylem anatomical properties [mean vessel diameter, mean hydraulic diameter, mean hydraulic diameter accounting for 95 % flow, and maximum vessel length (V L)]. Results show that tree species with a narrow habitat range (mesic specialists) were more vulnerable to cavitation than species with a wide habitat range (generalists). Ψ50 for mesic specialists ranged between ?1.5 and ?2.2 MPa and that for generalists between ?2.5 and ?3.6 MPa. While mesic specialists exhibited the lowest seasonal variation in ΨPD, generalists displayed significant seasonal variations in ΨPD suggesting that the two miombo habitat groups differ in their rooting depth. We observed a strong trade-off between K S and Ψ50 suggesting that tree hydraulic architecture is one of the decisive factors setting ecological boundaries for principal miombo species. While vessel diameters correlated weakly (P > 0.05) with Ψ50, V L was positively and significantly correlated with Ψ50. ΨPD was significantly correlated with Ψ50 further reinforcing the conclusion that tree hydraulic architecture plays a significant role in species’ habitat preference in miombo woodlands.  相似文献

Pressure–volume (P–V) curves are frequently used to analyze water relation properties of woody plants in response to transpiration-induced tissue water loss. In this study, P–V analyses were conducted on eight woody species growing in the semiarid Loess Plateau region of China during a relatively dry summer season using both the recently recommended instantaneous measurement and the traditional method with rehydration pretreatment. Generally, P–V-derived parameters in this study reflected conditions in a dry growth environment. Species-specific differences were also found among P–V parameters, suggesting each species uses different mechanisms to respond to drought. Based on the results from instantaneous measurements, a descending sequence for drought tolerance ranked by water potentials at the turgor loss point (Ψtlp) was Rosa hugonis > Syringa oblata = Armeniaca sibirica > Caragana microphylla > Pyrus betulaefolia > Acer stenolobum > Quercus liaotungensis > Robinia pseudoacacia. The first five species also showed lower levels of osmotic potential at full turgor (Ψ π sat ) and higher symplastic osmotic solute content per dry weight, suggesting they possess advantages in osmotic adjustment. Also, this study supports previous reports noting rehydration pretreatment resulted in shifts in P–V parameters. The magnitude of the shifts varied with species and water conditions. The effect of rehydration was stronger for species with higher drought tolerance or subjected to the influence of drought. Differences in the parameters among species were mitigated as a result of rehydration. Those with a lower Ψtlp or midday water potential were more deeply affected by rehydration. Application of instantaneous measurements was strongly recommended for proper analysis of P–V curves particularly in arid and semiarid areas.  相似文献

The Caatinga is one of the world's richest dry forests. This forest occurs only in Brazil, but is the least studied and protected Brazilian ecosystem. There are few reports about drought tolerance mechanisms in Caatinga trees. This work evaluates water relations of six adult species in the middle of the dry season to further understand water relations in this ecosystem, which will be important for future reforestation and management projects. Based on results, the trees were classified into four groups: (I), Mimosa caesalpiniifolia had low leaf water potential (Ψw) at predawn and no significant decrease at midday. Stomatal conductance (gs) analyses indicates that plants have reached its lowest Ψw; (II), Caesalpinia pyramidalis and Auxemma oncocalyx had low Ψw at predawn and significant decrease at midday. For these species the recuperation of water status at night may have been sufficient for maintaining stomata open during the day; (III), Caesalpinia ferrea and Calliandra spinosa had relatively high Ψw at predawn and a significant decrease at midday. These species might maintain their water status similar to individuals of group II, but they might also have deeper root systems; and (IV), Tabebuia caraiba with the highest Ψw at predawn and no significant decrease at midday, possibly indicating a combination of good stomatal control of water loss and a deeper root system. Moreover, except for individuals of group I, both in species with lower and higher Ψw at predawn it was not observed strong inhibition of gs.  相似文献

Phytoremediation potential of six halophytic species i.e. Suaeda nudiflora, Suaeda fruticosa, Portulaca oleracea, Atriplex lentiformis, Parkinsonia aculeata and Xanthium strumarium was assessed under screen house conditions. Plants were raised at 8.0, 12.0, 16.0, and 20.0 dSm?1 of chloride-dominated salinity. The control plants were irrigated with canal water. Sampling was done at vegetative stage (60–75 DAS). About 95 percent seed germination occurred up to 12 dSm?1 and thereafter declined slightly. Mean plant height and dry weight plant?1 were significantly decreased from 48.71 to 32.44 cm and from 1.73 to 0.61g plant?1 respectively upon salinization. Na+/K+ ratio (0.87 to 2.72), Na+/ Ca2+ + Mg2+ (0.48 to 1.54) and Cl?/SO42– (0.94 to 5.04) ratio showed increasing trend. Salinity susceptibility index was found minimum in Suaeda fruticosa (0.72) and maximum in Parkinsonia aculeata (1.17). Total ionic content also declined and magnitude of decline varied from 8.51 to 18.91% at 8 dSm?1 and 1.85 to 7.12% at 20 dSm?1 of salinity. On the basis of phytoremediation potential Suaeda fruticosa (1170.02 mg plant?1), Atriplex lentiformis (777.87 mg plant?1) were the best salt hyperaccumulator plants whereas Xanthium strumarium (349.61 mg plant?1) and Parkinsonia aculeata (310.59 mg plant?1) were the least hyperaccumulator plants.  相似文献

The response of three eucalypt species (Eucalyptus pulchella, Eucalyptus coccifera and Eucalyptus delegatensis) to a severe drought in the summer of 1982/83 was examined at Snug Plains, south-eastern Tasmania. Few large differences in leaf water potential (Ψl) or stomatal conductance (gs) were apparent even at the height of the drought when both Ψl and soil water potentials (Ψs) reached ca. — 4.5 MPa. However, E. pulchella maintained a higher relative water content (RWC) in its leaves than E. coccifera and E. delegatensis, and showed less severe crown damage. After the first light rains substantial interspecific differences in Ψl and gs occurred. Eucalyptus pulchella restored normal Ψl, gs and RWC more rapidly than the other two species and, even for severely droughted trees, crown growth commenced via epicormic buds near the ends of its branches while for E. delegatensis and E. coccifera crown regeneration was via epicormic buds arising from stems and larger branches. This resulted in a change in dominance in certain stands and showed that E. pulchella was more drought-resistant than E. coccifera, which was in turn more resistant than E. delegatensis. This conclusion was confirmed during competition experiments using potted seedlings. However, potted seedlings differed from mature field trees by maintaining moderate gs at high vapour pressure deficits and closing stomata at Ψl below ca. — 2.0 MPa. Substantial variation in the severity of drought symptoms was observed over short distances. This variation appeared to be determined by the moisture-holding capacity of the soil and the biomass of the stand. Although differences in the rooting patterns of seedlings were evident, field measurements of Ψl and Ψs suggested that all three species were exploiting the same water resource. In contrast to previous studies, the results suggest that large interspecific differences in tissue hydration and crown damage may be present, even though differences in Ψl, gs and characteristics of the root system may appear small.  相似文献

More intense, more frequent, and longer heat-waves are expected in the future due to global warming, which could have dramatic ecological impacts. Increasing nitrogen (N) availability and its dynamics will likely impact plant responses to heat stress and carbon (C) sequestration in terrestrial ecosystems. This field study examined the effects of N availability on plant response to heat-stress (HS) treatment in naturally-occurring vegetation. HS (5 d at ambient or 40.5 ℃) and N treatments (±N) were applied to 16 1 m2 plots in restored prairie vegetation dominated by Andropogon gerardii (warm-season C4 grass) and Solidago canadensis (warm-season C3 forb). Before, during, and after HS, air, canopy, and soil temperature were monitored; net CO2 assimilation (Pn), quantum yield of photosystem Ⅱ (φPsⅡ), stomatal conductance (gs), and leaf water potential (Ψw) of the dominant species and soil respiration (Rsolf) of each plot were measured daily during HS. One week after HS, plots were harvested, and C% and N% were determined for rhizosphere and bulk soil, and above-ground tissue (green/senescent leaf, stem, and flower). Photosynthetic N-use efficiency (PNUE) and N resorption rate (NRR) were calculated. HS decreased Pn, gs, Ψw, and PNUE for both species, and N treatment generally increased these variables (±HS), but often slowed their poat-HS recovery. Aboveground biomass tended to decrease with HS in both species (and for green leaf mass in S. canadensis), but decrease with N for ,4. gerardii and increase with N for S. canadensis. For A. gerardii, HS tended to decrease N% in green tissues with N, whereas in S. canadensis, HS increased N% in green leaves.Added N decreased NRR for A. gerardii and HS increased NRR for S. canadensis. These results suggest that heat waves, though transient, could have significant effects on plants, communities, and ecosystem N cycling, and N can influence the effect of heat waves.  相似文献

A simple model was developed to characterize the daily water potential dynamics (Ψx of sun and shade leaves of three forest tree species (Quercus cerris, Acer campestre andCarpinus betulus) under anticyclonic weather types. Input data used for this-model were the vapour pressure deficit (d) and the soil moisture content (w.). The model is usable for the calculation of the actual Ψx-values with a probable error 0.18 –0.28 MPa and limits the maximum and minimum Ψx-values which may occur with the particular tree species. The model makes it possible to establish for each species the regime, determined byd andw, at which the water potential of the leaves reacts most sensitively to the changes of the environmental parameters.  相似文献

In addition to trees and grasses, the savannas of central Brazil are characterised by a diverse herbaceous dicot flora. Here we tested whether the coexistence of a highly diversified assemblage of species resulted in stratification or strong overlap in the use of soil water resources. We measured oxygen and hydrogen isotope ratios of stem water from herbs, grasses and trees growing side by side, as well as the isotopic composition of water in soil profile, groundwater and rainfall, and predawn (Ψpd) and midday (Ψmd) leaf water potentials. We used a stable isotope mixing model to estimate vertical partitioning of soil water by the three growth forms. Grasses relied on shallow soil water (5–50 cm) and were strongly anisohydric. Ψpd and Ψmd decreased significantly from the wet to the dry season. Trees extracted water from deeper regions of the soil profile (60–120 cm) and were isohydric. Ψpd and Ψmd did not change from the wet to the dry season. Herbs overlapped with grasses in patterns of water extraction in the dry season (between 10 and 40 cm), but they took up water at soil depths intermediate (70–100 cm) to those of trees and grasses during the wet season. They showed seasonal changes in Ψpd but not in Ψmd. We conclude that vertical partitioning of soil water may have contributed to coexistence of these three growth forms and resulted in a more complex pattern of soil water extraction than the two‐compartment model of soil water uptake currently used to explain the structure and function of tropical savanna ecosystems.  相似文献

Pressure-volume technique was utilized to evaluate salinity response among three populations ofSpartina patens (Ait.) Muhl. from Louisiana Gulf coast marshes. Plants were subjected to salinities of 85 and 425 mol m?3 for 77 d in a greenhouse. Ψw and Ψπ decreased in all populations in response to increases in salinity. There were 32% decrease in Ψsat, 42% decrease in Ψtlp in response to salinity changes from 85 to 425 mol m?3 in the Ferblanc population. Similarly, there were 35% and 41% decrease in Ψsat in the Clovelly and Lake Tambour populations, respectively. All populations showed the ability to adapt to the increased salinity as was evidenced by osmotic adjustment. However, the Lake Tambour population appeared to have superior ability to adapt to high salinity through having a significantly lower osmotic potential at saturation (Ψsat), osmotic potential at turgor loss point (Ψtlp), and maximum turgor potential (ΨP(max)) compared to other populations. Ferblanc and Clovelly populations revealed the ability to adapt to saline environments to a lesser extent as compared to the Lake Tambour population. Results indicate that there is a potential for selection of superior strains ofSpartina patens for use in marsh restoration projects aiming at prevention of wetland loss in certain coastal areas.  相似文献

Influence of inoculation with efficient rhizobia or nitrate fertilization in alleviating salinity (NaCl, CaCl2 and Na2SO4) stress was investigated in sand culture experiments. Shoot dry mass declined beyond salinity level corresponding to electrical conductivity (EC) 5.6 dS m?1 in control or in inoculated plants and after EC 7.4 dS m?1 in nitrate fed ones. Root growth was more sensitive and decreased at EC 3.3 dS m?1. Nitrate reductase activity in leaves reduced at EC 3.3 dS m?1 but in inoculated and nitrate fed plants it reduced at EC 5.6 dS m?1. Na+ accumulation increased at EC 5.6 and 7.4 dS m?1 in roots and, shoots, respectively. In inoculated and nitrate fed plants Na+ content in roots increased at EC 7.4 dS m?1. Content of Ca2+ increased slightly only in shoots and content of K+ was unaffected. Besides inoculation, application of small doses of nitrogen should prove beneficial for legume cultivation in saline soils.  相似文献
