The effect of two nutrient solution temperatures (cold (10 °C) and warm (22 °C)) during two flowering events of rose plants (Rosa × hybrida cv. Grand Gala) were examined by measuring chlorophyll (Chl) a fluorescence, ammonium (NH4+) content and nitrate reductase (NR) activity in four different leaf types, that is, external and internal leaves of bent shoots and lower and upper leaves of flowering stems. Besides, nitrate (NO3?) uptake and water absorption, total nitrogen (N) concentration in the plant, dry biomass, and the ratios of shoot/root and thin-white roots/suberized-brown roots were determined. Generally, cold solution increased NO3? uptake and thin-white roots production but decreased water uptake, so plants grown at cold solution had to improve their NO3? uptake mechanisms to obtain a higher amount of nutrient with less water absorption than plants grown at warm solution. The higher NO3? uptake can be related to an increase in NR activity, NH4+ content and total N concentration at cold solution. Nutrient solution temperature also had an effect on the photosynthetic apparatus. In general terms, the effective quantum yield (?PSII) and the fraction of open PSII reaction centres (qL) were higher in rose plants grown at cold solution. These effects can be associated to a higher NO3? uptake and total N concentration in the plants and were modulated by irradiance throughout all the experiment. Plants could adapt to cold solution by enhancing their metabolism without a decrease in total dry biomass. Nevertheless, the effect of nutrient solution temperature is not simple and also affected by climatic factors.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of selenium (Se) supply (0, control; 2.5, 5, 10, or 20 μM) on cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) cv. Polan F1 plants grown under short-term low temperature stress. About 14–16 day-old seedlings, grown at an optimal temperature (25/20°C; day/night), were exposed to short-term chilling stress with a day/night temperature of 10°C/5°C for 24 h, for a further 24 h at 20°C/15°C, and then transferred to 25/20°C (re-warming) for 7 days. Se did not affect the fresh weight (FW) of plants at a concentration of 2.5–10 μM, but in the presence of 20 μM Se, the biomass of shoots significantly decreased. The contents of chlorophylls and carotenoids witnessed no significant change after Se supplementation. Compared with the control, the Se-treated plants showed an increase of proline content in leaves, once after chilling and again after 7 days of re-warming. However, proline levels were much higher immediately after chilling than after re-warming. The malondialdehyde (MDA) content in the root of plants treated with 2.5–10 μM Se decreased directly after stress. This was in comparison with the plants grown without Se, whereas it increased in roots and leaves of plants exposed to 20 μM Se. Seven days later, the MDA level in the root of plants grown in the presence of Se was still lower than those of plants not treated with Se and generally witnessed no significant change in leaves. Although Se at concentrations of 2.5–10 μM modified the physiological response of cucumber to short-term chilling stress, causing an increase in proline content in leaves and diminishing lipid peroxidation in roots, the resistance of plants to low temperature was not clearly enhanced, as concluded on the basis of FW and photosynthetic pigments accumulation.  相似文献

The partitioning of soluble carbohydrates and starch betweenroots and shoots was investigated in wheat genotypes differingin Zn or Mn efficiency. The plants were grown for 11 d in achelate-buffered nutrient solution with sufficient or deficientZn and Mn supply. The Zn-efficient cultivar Warigal had a greatershoot fresh weight under sufficient Zn compared with the Zn-inefficientcultivar Durati. When supplied with sufficient Zn, Warigal hada greater concentration and content of soluble carbohydratesin roots and shoots in comparison with Durati. Under deficientZn supply, Durati had a greater concentration and content ofstarch in roots and shoots compared with Warigal. In an experimentwith varying supply of Mn, the Mn-efficient genotype C8MM hada greater shoot fresh weight than the Mn-inefficient cultivarBayonet under sufficient or deficient Mn supply. The concentrationof soluble carbohydrates in roots and shoots was decreased bydeficient Mn supply in C8MM but not in Bayonet. Starch accumulatedin the roots of Bayonet under deficient Mn supply. The resultssuggest that synthesis of carbohydrates is decreased under Zndeficiency, while they are preferentially partitioned to theroots to increase growth and thus the surface area availablefor Zn uptake. In the case of Mn deficiency, carbohydrate productionwas limited, but partitioning between roots and shoots was notaltered.Copyright 1997 Annals of Botany Company Carbohydrate; deficiency; manganese; assimilate partitioning; starch; Triticum aestivum; zinc  相似文献

Salinity is one of the major constraints in oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) production. One of the means to overcome this constraint is the use of plant growth regulators to induce plant tolerance. To study the plant response to salinity in combination with a growth regulator, 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA), oilseed rape plants were grown hydroponically in greenhouse conditions under three levels of salinity (0, 100, and 200 mM NaCl) and foliar application of ALA (30 mg/l). Salinity depressed the growth of shoots and roots, and decreased leaf water potential and chlorophyll concentration. Addition of ALA partially improved the growth of shoots and roots, and increased the leaf chlorophyll concentrations of stressed plants. Foliar application of ALA also maintained leaf water potential of plants growing in 100 mM salinity at the same level as that of the control plants, and there was also an improvement in the water relations of ALA-treated plants growing in 200 mM. Net photosynthetic rate and gas exchange parameters were also reduced significantly with increasing salinity; these effects were partially reversed upon foliar application with ALA. Sodium accumulation increased with increasing NaCl concentration which induced a complex response in the macro-and micronutrients uptake and accumulation in both roots and leaves. Generally, analyses of macro- (N, P, K, S, Ca, and Mg) and micronutrients (Mn, Zn, Fe, and Cu) showed no increased accumulation of these ions in the leaves and roots (on dry weight basis) under increasing salinity except for zinc (Zn). Foliar application of ALA enhanced the concentrations of all nutrients other than Mn and Cu. These results suggest that under short-term salinity-induced stress (10 days), exogenous application of ALA helped the plants improve growth, photosynthetic gas exchange capacity, water potential, chlorophyll content, and mineral nutrition by manipulating the uptake of Na+.  相似文献

Summary Perennial ryegrass was grown in flowing solution culture in a glasshouse, and during February lead was added to the nutrient solution and held at a constant concentration; uptake and transport of lead were followed in conditions of low intensity daylight or higher intensity artificial light. Uptake of lead by the roots was most rapid during the first 4 days after addition to the nutrient solution. After this time there was a steady increase in uptake per g dry weight of root with plants grown in artificial light having a much higher rate of uptake than plants grown in daylight. Roots always contained more lead than the corresponding shoots and concentration was always greater in the roots than in the shoots. The concentration in both roots and shoots increased with time but that in plants grown in artificial light was higher than that in plants grown in daylight. Two phases of uptake were identified, an initial rapid phase which is probably an exchange phenomenon, and a slow sustained phase which may be under metabolic control. A lower proportion of the total lead taken up remained in the roots of plants grown in artificial light than in those grown in daylight. This difference may have resulted from differences in (i) the production of organic carriers and/or (ii) transpiration. re]19750930  相似文献

There was a large increase in nitrate reductase activity (NAR) assayed both in vivo and in vitro in roots of barley plants (cv. Midas_ grown with roots at 10°C and shoots at 20°C, compared with whole plants grown at 20°C. There were diurnal fluctuations in NRA in roots from both treatments, but they were much greater in roots grown at 20°C, where NRA fell to a very low value in the dark period. The diurnal fluctuations in the malate content of the roots were also related to the root growth temperature. Plants with roots grown at the lower temperature had a higher malate content, especially in the dark period where it was 20 times greater than in plants with roots at 20°C. At all times there was a three-fold increase in soluble carbohydrate in cooled roots and diurnal fluctuations were much less pronounced than those of malate. Growth at low temperatures increased the total flux of amino N into the xylem sap and increased the proportion of reduced N in the total N flux. At certain times of day both 10°C- and 20°C-grown roots responded to exogeneous malate by increasing the flux of amino acid into the xylem sap, although this effect was always more pronounced in 20°C-grown roots.  相似文献

Lolium perenne L. cv. 23 (perennial ryegrass) plants were grown in flowing solution culture and acclimatized over 49 d to low root temperature (5°C) prior to treatment at root temperatures of 3, 5, 7 and 9°C for 41 d with common air temperature of 20/15°C day/night and solution pH 5·0. The effects of root temperature on growth, uptake and assimilation of N were compared with N supplied as either NH4 or NO3 at 10 mmol m?3. At any given temperature, the relative growth rate (RGR) of roots exceeded that of shoots, thus the root fraction (Rf) increased with time. These effects were found in plants grown with the two N sources. Plants grown at 3 and 5°C had very high dry matter contents as reflected by the fresh weight: freeze-dried weight ratio. This ratio increased sharply, especially in roots at 7 and 9°C. Expressed on a fresh weight basis, there was no major effect of root temperature on the [N] of plants receiving NHJ but at any given temperature, the [N] in plants grown with NHJ was significantly greater than in those grown with NO3. The specific absorption rate (SAR) of NH+4 was greater at all temperatures than SAR-NO3. In plants grown with NH+, 3–5% of the total N was recovered as NH+4, whereas in those grown with NO?3 the unassimilated NO?3 rose sharply between 7 and 9°C to become 14 and 28% of the total N in shoots and roots, respectively. The greater assimilation of NH+4 lead to concentrations of insoluble reduced N (= protein) which were 125 and 20% greater, in roots and shoots, respectively, than in NO?3-grown plants. Plants grown with NH+4 had very much greater glutamine and asparagine concentrations in both roots and shoots, although other amino acids were more similar in Concentration to those in NO?3 grown plants. It is concluded that slow growth at low root temperature is not caused by restriction of the absorption or assimilation of either NH+4 or NO?3. The additional residual N (protein) in NH+4 grown plants may serve as a labile store of N which could support growth when external N supply becomes deficient.  相似文献

Summary Two soybean varieties (Glycine max) were grown in nutrient solution to investigate their response to manganese toxicity at two different temperature regimes. Dry matter yields of both varieties were markedly reduced by lower temperature (21°C day/18°C night). At these temperatures leaf crinkle symptoms of Mn toxicity were very severe on Bragg and moderate on Lee at high levels of Mn in solution (15 ppm). However increasing the temperature to 33°C day/28°C night completely eliminated symptoms on both varieties. High levels (15 ppm) of Mn in nutrient solution decreased yields of both varieties at low temperature with Bragg showing the greater reduction. At high temperature neither variety showed yield reductions at 15 ppm Mn. Higher concentrations of Mn in shoots and roots were obtained at higher temperature, indicating that increased tolerance was not associated with lower plant Mn levels. Lee consistantly contained higher levels of Mn in the shoots than Bragg in the 15 ppm Mn solution at both temperatures although appearing to be more tolerant at low temperatures. The implications of these results for environmental effects on the expression of Mn toxicity in the field are discussed. re]19751202  相似文献

Brassica rapa plants were exposed for a 52 h period (as pretreatment) to a differential temperature (DT) between roots (5°C) and shoots (20°C), while control plants were maintained with both shoot and roots at 20°C (warm grown = WG). Measured at 20°C, volume flow of xylem exudate from roots of DT plants was enhanced compared with that from WG plants, while transpiration flows were similar in pretreated and control plants. Both transpiration and exudation flows were dependent upon shoot/root ratio. Differences in the volume flow of exudate were principally related to increases in root hydraulic conductance. Anion fluxes (notably nitrate) into xylem exudate of DT plants were significantly greater than those into exudate of WG plants. This enhancement of nitrate flow from the pretreated roots was associated with a two-fold increase in nitrate uptake rate. The relationship of the cold-induced change in nitrate uptake capacity with shoot/root ratio is discussed in terms of control of nitrate absorption by shoot sink strength.  相似文献

The effects of suboptimal root zone temperatures (RZTs) on net translocation rates from the roots to the shoots and the concentrations of Fe, Mn, Zn, and Cu were examined in maize grown in nutrient solution or soil. Plants were grown at 12 °C, 18 °C and 24 °C RZT. At each RZT, the growth-related shoot demand for nutrients was varied by independently modifying the temperature of the shoot base (SBT) including the apical shoot meristem. The net translocation rates of Mn and Zn from the roots to the shoots were reduced at low RZTs, irrespective of the SBT and of the substrate (soil or nutrient solution). Obviously, the net translocation rates of Mn and Zn at low RZT were mainly regulated by temperature effects on the roots and not by the chemical nutrient availability in the rhizosphere or by shoot growth rate as controlled by SBTs. When both RZT and SBT were reduced, the decrease in net translocation rates of Mn and Zn was similar to the decline in the shoot growth rate and concentrations of Mn and Zn in the shoot fresh matter were not greatly affected or were even increased by low RZT. However, at high SBT and low RZT in nutrient solution, the depressed net translocation rates of Mn and Zn combined with the increased shoot growth resulted in significantly decreased concentrations of Mn and Zn in the shoot, indicating that Mn and Zn may become deficient even at high chemical availability. By contrast to Mn and Zn, the net translocation rates of Fe and Cu at all RZTs were markedly enhanced by increased SBTs. Accordingly, the concentrations of Fe and Cu in the shoot fresh matter were not greatly affected by RZTs, irrespective of the SBTs. These results indicate that the ability of roots to supply Fe and Cu to the shoot was internally regulated by the growth related shoot demand per unit of roots. Response of 13 alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) genotypes to varied Zn supply (+Zn: 2 mg kg−1 soil, −Zn: no added Zn) was studied in a pot experiment under controlled environmental conditions. Plants were grown for four weeks in a Zn-deficient siliceous sandy soil. Plants grown at no added Zn showed typical Zn deficiency symptoms i.e. interveinal chlorosis of leaves, yellowish-white necrotic lesions on leaf blades, necrosis of leaf margins, smaller leaves and a marked reduction in growth. There was solute leakage from the leaves of Zn-deficient plants, while no solute leakage from Zn-sufficient plants. The ratios of P:Zn, Fe:Zn, Cu:Zn and Mn:Zn in Zn-deficient plants were extremely high compared with Zn-sufficient plants indicating disturbance of P:Zn, Fe:Zn, Cu:Zn and Mn:Zn balance within plant system by Zn deficiency. Genotypes differed markedly in Zn efficiency based on shoot dry matter production. Alfalfa genotypes also differed markedly in P:Zn ratio, Cu:Zn ratio and Fe:Zn ratio under —Zn treatment. The shoot dry weight, shoot:root ratio, chlorophyll content of fresh leaf tissue, solute leakage from the leaves, Zn uptake and distribution of Zn in shoots and roots were the most sensitive parameters of Zn efficiency. Zn-efficient genotypes had less solute leakage but higher shoot:root ratio and higher Zn uptake compared with Zn-inefficient genotypes. Under —Zn treatment, Zn-inefficient genotypes had less Zn partitioning to shoots (33–37%) and more Zn retained in roots (63–67%), while Zn-efficient genotypes had about equal proportions of Zn in roots (50%) and shoots (50%). Sugar beets ( Beta vulgaris L. cv. Monohill) grown in a complete nutrient solution, were treated with Cd2+ (5 or 50 μ M ) and/or EDTA (10 or 100 μ M ) in different combinations. The Cd contents of five-week-old roots and shoots were determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry, and the sucrose, glucose and fructose contents were measured enzymatically. The Cd2+ uptake in both roots and shoots shows a linear relationship to the concentration of free Cd2+ in the nutrient solution. This uptake is diminished in the presence of EDTA, suggesting that the Cd-EDTA complex is unable to penetrate the membranes. The contents of glucose, fructose and sucrose in both roots and shoots decrease with increasing uptake of free Cd2+. This may be a secondary effect caused by the inhibition of photosynthesis in the presence of Cd2+. EDTA reduces the inhibition of Cd2+ on sugar formation and accumulation. In the presence of EDTA alone the sugar content increases somewhat. EDTA slightly influences the dry weights of whole plants. The ratio roots:whole plants increases. Cd2+ (≤ 50 μ M ) increases the dry matter portion of roots by ca 30%, but not that of shoots.  相似文献

Neotyphodium coenophialum (Morgan-Jones and Gams) Glenn, Bacon and Hanlin, a fungal endophyte found primarily in shoots of tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Shreb.), can modify rhizosphere activity in response to phosphorus (P) deficiency. In a controlled environment experiment, two cloned tall fescue genotypes (DN2 and DN4) free (E-) and infected (E+) with their naturally occurring endophyte strains were grown in nutrient solutions at low P (3.1 ppm) or high P (31 ppm) concentrations for 21 d. Endophyte infection increased root dry matter (DM) of DN4 by 21% but did not affect root DM of DN2. Under P deficiency, shoot and total DM were not affected by endophyte but relative growth rate was greater in E+ than E- plants. In high P nutrient solution, E+ plants produced 13% less (DN2) or 29% more (DN4) shoot DM than E- plants. Endophyte affected mineral concentrations in roots more than in shoots. Regardless of P concentration in nutrient solution, E+ DN2 accumulated more P, Ca, Zn and Cu but less K in roots than E- plants. When grown in high P nutrient solution, concentrations of Fe and B in roots of E+ DN2 plants were reduced compared with those of E- plants. Concentrations of P, Ca and Cu in roots of DN4 were less, but K was greater in E+ than E- plants. In shoots, E+ DN2 had greater concentrations of Fe and Cu than E- DN2, regardless of P concentration in nutrient solution. Genotype DN4 responded to endophyte infection by reducing B concentration in shoots. Nutrient uptake rates were affected by endophyte infection in plants grown in low P nutrient solution. A greater uptake rate of most nutrients and their transport to shoots was observed in DN2, but responses of DN4 were not consistent. Results suggest that endophyte may elicit different modes of tall fescue adaptation to P deficiency. Boron (B) re-translocation is an important factor determining tolerance to B deficiency in plants. In this work growth, B content of leaves with different ages, B partitioning between soluble and cell wall (CW) fractions, and B re-translocation were investigated in tea (Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze) plants grown hydroponically without (<2.5 μM) and with adequate (46 μM) B supply. Under B deficiency, the proportion of CW bound B increased in the old leaves but decreased in roots. Contrastingly, the proportion of CW bound B was not influenced by B supply in the young leaves. A continuous reduction of B content was observed in all fully expanded leaves as well as in roots of low B plants. Taken together, these results revealed considerable re-translocation of B from mature to growing leaves. Leaf extract and phloem exudate samples were analyzed and sucrose, glucose, and fructose were detected while xylitol, sorbitol, mannitol, maltose, galactose, cellobiose or rafinose were not found in these samples. In the leaf extracts, concentration of sucrose increased under B deficiency conditions, concentration of glucose decreased, while that of fructose remained unchanged. Our results provide circumstantial evidence for a considerable re-translocation of B in tea plants despite lacking polyol compounds.  相似文献

Varietal differences in net nutrient uptake rate and transport efficiency in the presence of aluminium have seldom been investigated in rice. Therefore, effects of Al on growth, uptake and transport of macronutrients (K, P, Ca, and Mg) and micronutrients (Fe, Zn, Cu, and Mn) were evaluated in 3 rice cultivars (BG35, DA14 and IR45) with different Al sensitivity. The plants were grown in nutrient solution at pH 4.1. An initial growth was completed in the time interval 1 to 5 days immediately before the addition of Al. The final growth period with Al (0, 140, 280 or 560 μ M ) was completed on day 26. With Al, a comparatively high P accumulation occurred in shoots and roots of the Al tolerant cultivar BG35. In contrast, the Al sensitive cultivar IR45 maintained a relatively high Ca accumulation during the Al treatment. A reduced total net uptake rate of P and Ca by IR45 in the time period 5 to 26 days was due to both a reduced root fresh weight and a reduced net uptake rate per g fresh weight of root. Moreover, net Ca transport to the shoots higher than net uptake rate in DA14 and IR45 at > 140 μ M Al during the test period suggests restricted Ca uptake by the roots in combination with a continuous net loss of Ca from the roots to the shoots as time proceeds. In the case of Mg and Mn, there was a general reduction of net uptake rates, irrespective of Al sensitivity of cultivars. With Al treatment, comparatively high accumulation of Fe, Zn and Cu occurred in the roots of IR45, concomitant with a high net Zn and Cu uptake rate. It is concluded that differences in Al sensitivity among rice cultivars BG35, DA14 and IR45 are not primarily linked to the depressed internal Mg or Mn status of the plants but rather to changes in the uptake and distribution of Ca and P.  相似文献

Long-distance signals generated in shoots are thought to be associated with the regulation of iron uptake from roots; however, the signaling mechanism is still unknown. To elucidate whether the signal regulates iron uptake genes in roots positively or negatively, we analyzed the expressions of two representative iron uptake genes: NtIRT1 and NtFRO1 in tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) roots, after shoots were manipulated in vitro. When iron-deficient leaves were treated with Fe(II)-EDTA, the expressions of both genes were significantly reduced; nevertheless iron concentration in the roots maintained a similar level to that in roots grown under iron-deficient conditions. Next, all leaves from tobacco plants grown under the iron-deficient condition were excised. The expression of two genes were quickly reduced below half within 2 h after the leaf excision and gradually disappeared by the end of a 24-h period. The NtIRT1 expression was compared among the plants whose leaves were cut off in various patterns. The expression increased in proportion to the dry weight of iron-deficient leaves, although no relation was observed between the gene expression and the position of excised leaves. Interestingly, the NtIRT1 expression in hairy roots increased under the iron-deficient condition, suggesting that roots also have the signaling mechanism of iron status as well as shoots. Taken together, these results indicate that the long-distance signal generated in iron-deficient tissues including roots is a major factor in positive regulation of the expression of NtIRT1 and NtFRO1 in roots, and that the strength of the signal depends on the size of plants.  相似文献

Summary The effects of added silicon on the absorption and transport of manganese in perennial ryegrass (an accumulator of Si) were determined and compared with those found in white clover (which has restricted Si uptake). The plants were grown in flowing solution culture in two experiments with Si in the nutrient solution maintained at 0, 10 or 20 mgl−1 and Mn at 0.005 mgl−1. By the final harvests, the plants contained concentrations of both Mn and Si that were comparable to those found in field-grown plants. In common with other findings, white clover had very much lower concentrations of Si in both shoots and roots than did ryegrass but there was no effect of Si treatment on the growth of either species. In both species, the concentrations of Mn were initially greater in roots than in shoots, but values in both plant parts decreased with time and by the final harvests, were similar. The rates of absorption of Mn by roots and its subsequent transport to shoots were also similar in both species. In contrast to findings for other species in other studies based on conventional solution culture, there was no effect of added Si on either absorption or transport of Mn in clover or ryegrass. It was therefore concluded that any effect of Si on the behaviour of Mn in plants must result from changes in distribution and partitioning within leaf tissues and cells.  相似文献

The response of barley seedlings to inoculation with associative rhizobacteria Azospirillum lipoferum 137, Arthrobacter mysorens 7, Agrobacterium radiobacter 10 and Flavobacterium sp. L30 was studied in hydroponic and quartz sand cultures in the presence of 50 microM CdCl2. Cadmium caused severe inhibition in the growth and uptake of nutrient elements by the plants. Inoculation with the bacteria slightly stimulated root length and biomass of hydroponically grown Cd-treated seedlings. The bacteria increased the content of nutrients such as P, Mg, Ca, Fe, Mn and Na in roots and or shoots of the plants grown in the absence of Cd. Positive changes in the element composition caused by the bacteria were less pronounced in Cd-treated plants, whereas the total amount of nutrients taken by the inoculated plants was generally increased significantly. The content of Cd in the inoculated plants was unchanged, except increased in roots upon addition of A. lipoferum 137. Inoculation did not affect the activity of peroxidase, alpha-mannosidase, phosphodiesterae, alpha-galactosidase, and concentration of sulfhydryl compounds used as biochemical markers of stress in plant roots. The results showed that associative bacteria were capable of decreasing partially the toxicity of Cd for the barley plants through the improvement in uptake of nutrient elements.  相似文献

Sequestration of Pb by synthetic chelates has been reported to increase bioavailability, uptake, and translocation of this metal in plants. In this work the potential phytotoxic effects of Pb-EDTA were investigated in Phaseolus vulgaris L. cv. Limburgse vroege plants grown on hydroponics. Addition of 50 µ M Pb-EDTA to the nutrient solution caused a significant induction of syringaldazine peroxidase (SPOD; EC 1.11.1.7) in roots and primary leaves and guaiacol peroxidase (GPOD; EC 1.11.1.7) in leaves. Addition of 100 µ M Pb-EDTA further exacerbated ascorbate peroxidase (APOD; EC 1.11.1.11), GPOD, dehydroascorbate reductase (DHAR; EC 1.8.5.1), glutathione reductase (GR; EC 1.6.4.2) and malic enzyme (ME; EC 1.1.1.40) in roots and APOD and ME in primary leaves. Addition of 200 µ M Pb-EDTA also induced DHAR in leaves. This induction of peroxidases (SPOD, GPOD, APOD), enzymes of the ascorbate-glutathione cycle (DHAR, GR in roots) and of an NADP+ reducing enzyme in roots and primary leaves indicates that oxidative stress has been initiated. At 200 µ M Pb-EDTA, chlorophyll a and b content in leaves was significantly reduced while visible effects on root morphology and shoot length were observed, while no significant morphological effects were found in the leaves, confirming the sensitive character of the measured enzymes as plant stress indicators. Elevation of the Pb-EDTA concentration in the growth medium significantly reduced the content of Ca, Fe, Mn and Zn taken up by plants, probably due to ion leakage as a result of observed toxicity. Addition of up to 200 µ M EDTA increased chelation of divalent cations in nutrient solution resulting in reduced plant uptake of Zn, Cu, Fe and Mn. This did not result in phytotoxicity.  相似文献

Summary Romaine lettuce plants were grown in 15-liter tanks containing one-fifth strength Hoagland's solution over a range of Mn concentrations from zero to 10 ppm. This covered a span of Mn from deficiency to toxicity. Maximum yields were obtained at 0.1 and 0.5 ppm Mn supplied in the nutrient solution. A marginal chlorosis appeared at the highest Mn rates and was more pronounced in the older leaves. The plants were divided into young and old leaves and roots. The yellow borders of the old leaves were separated for analysis from the interior green tissues. The Mn content of the chlorotic borders averaged three times higher than that in the interior green tissues and reached a maximum of 5430 ppm Mn as opposed to 1940 ppm. The Fe content of the chlorotic bands was more than twice as high as that found in the green parts of the blades. The maximum content of Mn found in the roots was 3660 ppm. re]19720118  相似文献
