Life table studies for the Angoumois grain moth, Sitotroga cerealella (Olivier), a pest on stored maize, Zea mays L., in West Africa, were conducted as part of the expansion of a mathematical simulation model that has been developed for two pests of stored maize. The effects of four temperatures (20, 25, 30, and 35 degrees C) and two relative humidity levels (44 and 80%) on developmental time, age-specific survivorship and fecundity, sex ratio, and intrinsic rate of natural increase (r(m)) of S. cerealella were investigated. Sex ratio was close to 1:1 at all temperatures and humidity. Minimum development time occurred close to 32 degrees C and 80% RH for both males and females, and developmental time of females was significantly shorter than that of males. Immature survivorship was highest between 25 and 30 degrees C and 80% RH and lowest at 35 degrees C under both humidity conditions. A similar low level was found at 20 degrees C and 44% RH. The greatest fecundity (124 eggs per female) occurred at 20 degrees C, 80% RH. The maximum r(m) value was 0.086 d(-1) at 30 degrees C and 80% RH, but the growth rate declined dramatically at 35 degrees C. If compared with the few other life table studies conducted on this species on maize in India and North America, some variation among the strains becomes evident. A common conclusion for the current study and previous ones is that optimal population development for S. cerealella occurs at approximately 30 degrees C and at high humidity.  相似文献

Anthocoris minki Dohrn is a promising indigenous Anthocoris species for the biological control of Agonoscena pistaciae Burck. and Laut. (Homoptera: Psyllidae) in pistachio orchards in Turkey. The adult longevity, fecundity, life table parameters and prey consumption of A. minki fed on Ephestia kuehniella Zeller (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) eggs were studied at combinations of three constant temperatures (20, 25 and 30 ± 1°C) with two relative humidity (RH) levels (40 and 65 ± 5%). Studies indicated that temperature and RH significantly affected adult longevity, fecundity and prey consumption of A. minki. The greatest adult female longevity was 116.0 days at 20°C and 65% RH; the shortest adult female longevity was 27.5 days at 30°C and 40% RH. At all tested temperatures, the oviposition period and prey consumption of both females and males significantly decreased at low RH compared to high RH. The highest and lowest total fecundities were 276.0 eggs (at 20°C and 65% RH) and 42.4 eggs (at 25°C and 40% RH), respectively. The intrinsic rates of natural increase (r m) at 40 and 65% RH were 0.049 and 0.076 at 20°C, 0.072 and 0.096 at 25°C and 0.076 and 0.112 at 30°C, respectively. The highest mean numbers of E. kuehniella eggs consumed by females and males were 859.6 (at 20°C) and 515.3 (at 25°C) at 65% RH, respectively; the lowest were 183.3 (at 20°C) and 95.5 (at 25°C) at 40% RH, respectively.  相似文献

松毛虫狭颊寄蝇(Carcelia matsukarehae)是松毛虫重要的寄生天敌之一。在控制松毛虫自然种群增长中起重要的作用。本文在15℃、18℃、22℃、25℃、29℃、32℃6个恒温。相对湿度为70%~85%,光照为12:12(L:D)的条件下研究了松毛虫狭颊寄蝇的生态学特性。结果表明,松毛虫狭颊寄蝇的世代发育起点温度是5.23℃。积温为523.73日·度。成虫寿命在没有补充营养的条件下为1.3~8.06d,喂以30%蜜糖水。寿命可以从9.63d延长到36.42d。成虫产卵的最适温度为236℃,每雌最大产量为86粒.种群增长最适温度22~25℃.以近似方法计算22℃和25℃下实验种群繁殖特征生命表参数。在22℃,R0、T0、rc和A值分别为24.89、37.33、0.086和1.089。在25℃时分别为20.01、32.38、0.09和1.10.22℃时种群最大LxMx出现在成虫羽化后第33~38天。25℃时的LxMx最大值出现在成虫羽化后第29~34天。  相似文献

Temperature and humidity affect insect physiology, survival, fecundity, reproductive status and behaviour. Complementing previous work investigating the effects of temperature on adult survival and fecundity of the invasive frugivorous pest, Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura), this study was conducted to determine the effect of humidity on D. suzukii larval development, adult survival, fecundity and reproductive status using blueberry as a host substrate. The five constant humidity levels in laboratory bioassays were 20, 33, 71, 82 and 94% RH at 20.6 ± 0.2°C. As RH increased, fecundity and longevity increased. At the higher humidity levels, RH had limited impact on mean generation times (T), larval development and eclosion times. The highest net reproductive rate (Ro = 68) and highest intrinsic rate of population increase (rm = 0.17) were both recorded at 94% RH. The reproductive status of females, as indicated by the number of mature oocytes per female, was significantly greater at 82 and 94% RH, compared to 71% RH. In addition to the laboratory procedures, we correlated field trap captures over an 81‐day summer period to relative humidity (RH) levels in close proximity to those traps. In the field, low ambient humidity levels resulted in decreased trap captures. A humidity‐dependent population model predicted lower densities of D. suzukii relative to populations at higher humidity. This study supports the hypothesis that cultural practices that minimize lower humidity levels in crops can contribute to the management of D. suzukii. Such methods may include open pruning, drip irrigation and field floor management.  相似文献

温度和湿度的变化对亚洲玉米螟0strinia furnacalis(Guenee)成虫的交配和产卵及寿命都具有极显著的影响。在16℃~32℃和RH20%~100%的温湿范围中,亚洲玉米螟成虫繁殖力在20℃~28℃恒温和RH70%~100%的温湿组合中较大,其中在24℃恒温和28℃~20℃变温与RH90%~100%的组合中为最大,在32℃和RH20%的组合中为最小。单雌抱卵量、产卵量和产出卵率及交配次数均与温度呈抛物线曲线关系,与湿度呈正相关。温、湿度对成虫繁殖力具有极显著的交互作用。成虫寿命与温湿度密切相关,温度越高,成虫寿命越短;而湿度越高,成虫寿命越长。但雄蛾比雌蛾较耐低湿,在16℃~24℃下雄蛾寿命比雌蛾较长。此外,雄蛾较强的交配能力可促进卵的发育和产出。以上结果对玉米螟种群动态消长的分析和预测预报提供了参考依据。  相似文献

The genus Adelphocoris (Hemiptera: Miridae) is a group of important insect pests of Bt cotton in China. The three dominant species are A. lineolatus, A. suturalis, and A. fasciaticollis, and these species have different population dynamics. The causal factors for the differences in population dynamics have not been determined; one hypothesis is that humidity may be important for the growth of Adelphocoris populations. In the laboratory, the demographic parameters of the three Adelphocoris species were compared when the mirid bugs were subjected to various levels of relative humidity (40, 50, 60, 70 and 80% RH). Middle to high levels of RH (60, 70 and 80%) were associated with higher egg and nymph survival rates and increased adult longevity and female fecundity. Lower humidity levels (40 and 50% RH) had negative effects on the survival of nymphs, adult longevity and fecundity. The intrinsic rate of increase (rm), the net reproductive rate (R0) and the finite rate of increase (λ) for each Adelphocoris species increased with increasing RH. Significant positive relationships were found between RH and the life table parameters, rm, R0 and λ for the three Adelphocoris species. These results will help to better understand the phenology of the three Adelphocoris species, and the information can be used in population growth models to optimize pest forecasting and management strategies for these key pests.  相似文献

Developmental and survival rates of the locally important diaspidid pest, Abgrallaspis cyanophylli (Signoret) reared on Solanum tuberosum L . tubers were examined under light and dark conditions; humidities of 33, 53, 62 and 75% relative humidity (RH); varying population densities; constant temperatures in the range of 20 to 30oC and at cycling temperatures of 12 h at 14°C and 12 h at 30°C. Developmental rate was slightly lower under constant light conditions but mortality was higher in the dark, particularly amongst the males. At 26°C, there were no differences in developmental rate in relation to the various humidity levels. However, survival was significantly lower at 33% RH, with females suffering higher mortality than males. Population density was found to have no effect on developmental rate or size of the females. Overall mortality increased in line with population density although the result was poorly correlated. Within the range 20-28°C developmental rate increased with rising temperature but decreased at 30°C. Thermal summation and polynomial regression data show a theoretical lower thermal threshold for development of 12.47°C. The thermal constant was 541.7 degree days. Survival was lowest at 20°C and 30°C and highest at temperatures in the median range and under cycling conditions. Male survival was significantly higher than that of the females at 30°C and under the cycling regime of 14/30°C. The results suggest that the optimum conditions for rearing A. cyanophylli on potatoes would be at temperatures in the range 24-26°C and humidities of 55-65% RH.  相似文献

Abstract This paper deals with the biological characteristics of the psocid Liposcelis entomophila (Enderlein) on a diet composed of whole wheat flour and yeast (10: 1) under different temperatures (17.5–35C) and relative humidities (50%-90% RH). The results showed that at 75% RH development time from egg to adult varied from 71. 9 d at 20% to 21.7 d at 35C. At 28C it varied from 23.0 d at 90% RH to 34.4 d at 60% RH. The development threshold and the effective accumulated temperature for entire immature stages were estimated at 15. 7C and 460. 7 day-degree, respectively. The survival rate from egg to adult was 64. 5% at 27. 5C while at 20C and 35C it was only 32.1% and 37. 0%, respectively. At 28C the survival rate ranged from 31. 2% at 60% RH to 67.8% at 80% RH. L. entomophila could not survive at any humidity at 17. 5C and below 50% RH. The average longevity of adult ranged from 32.4 d at 35C and 64.4 d at 20C. At 75% RH the mean egg production varied from 27.1 at 27. 5 C and 13. 9 at 20C and the greatest fecundity occurred at 90% RH with 28C. The optimal ranges of temperature and humidity for L. entomophila population growth were 27. 5–30C and 80%—90% RH. The predatory gall midge Feltiella acarisuga (Vallot) (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) is a biological control agent for twospotted spider mites on greenhouse vegetable crops. Effects of temperature and relative humidity (RH) on development of immatures, reproduction, and prey capture were determined in order to confirm the suitability of F. acarisuga for use in greenhouses. Developmental time ranged from 10 days at 27°C to 34 days at 15°C. At 20°C, developmental time was significantly shorter at 96% RH than at 84% RH. There was very poor survival of immatures at 64% RH and none at 36%. Lifespan of adult females decreased with increasing temperature, but temperature had no significant effect on number of eggs laid. At 20°C, lifespan was longer at 84 and 96% RH than at 64 or 36% RH. The number of spider mites attacked by 3-day-old larvae over 8 h increased with increasing temperature from 15 to 27°C. The number of mites attacked also increased with increasing RH at 27°C. We conclude that F. acarisuga will complete its life cycle and reproduce under conditions typically found in vegetable greenhouses in northern temperate climates. However, extended periods of low RH (<60% RH) could reduce reproduction and survivorship sufficiently to impair the predator's action against spider mite populations.  相似文献

Life cycle, fecundity and longevity of the avocado brown mite, Oligonychus punicae (Hirst), were studied on six grapevine cultivars (Tucupita, Villanueva, Red Globe, Sirah, Sauvignon and Chenin Blanc), under laboratory conditions at 27 +/- 2 degrees C, 80 +/- 10% RH, and L12:D12 photoperiod. Mite-infested leaves were collected from vineyards, placed in paper bags and taken to the laboratory. A laboratory mite culture was established using the grape cultivar Criolla Negra as host plant. To elucidate potential effects on avocado brown mite parameters, we assessed levels of secondary metabolites, such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins and polyphenols, of leaves of the six grape cultivars, as well as the thickness of the adaxial cuticle-epidermis. The life cycle of O. punicae differed among cultivars with average values ranging between 8.2 days on Tucupita leaves and 9.1 days on Sirah. Relatively high fecundity was found on Tucupita leaves (2.8 eggs/female/day) during 11.4 oviposition days, while low fecundity values occurred on Sirah and Villanueva leaves, with 0.9 and 1.8 eggs/female/day during 7.9 and 6.7 days, respectively. Average longevity of O. punicae females ranged from 8.1 to 17.5 days on Sirah and Sauvignon leaves, respectively. Intrinsic rate of increase (r (m)) was highest on Sauvignon (0.292) and Tucupita (0.261), and lowest on Sirah (0.146) and Villanueva (0.135). Although significant differences in cuticle-epidermis thickness were detected among the six cultivars, it seemed not to affect mite parameters. Secondary metabolite content also varied between the cultivars. Generally, increasing flavonoid content coincided with decreasing reproductive parameters. The natural plant resistance observed in this study could be useful in the development of an integrated pest management program for mite pests in grape production.  相似文献

The effect of temperature on the development, survivorship, fecundity, and life table parameters of Octodonta nipae (Maulik) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), was studied at seven constant temperatures of 17.5, 20, 22.5, 25, 27.5, 30, and 32.5°C. Preliminary experiments showed that no development was observed at 15 and 35°C. All individuals completed development and females laid eggs from 20 to 30°C. There was a significant decrease in male and female longevity with increasing temperatures from 20 to 30°C. The longest and shortest longevity were 203.5 and 73.7 d for males, and 178.7 and 57.6 d for females, respectively. Females produced on average 62.7, 88.9, 116.8, 70.0, and 47.3 eggs and the life expectancy for a newborn egg was 171.6, 148.7, 114.9, 89.2, and 94.8 d at 20, 22.5, 25, 27.5 and 30°C, respectively. Life history data were analyzed by using an age-stage, two-sex life table. The intrinsic rate of increase (r) and the finite rate of increase (λ) of O. nipae increased with increasing temperatures from 20 to 30°C, while the mean generation time (T) decreased within this temperature range. The r was 0.0155, 0.0249, 0.0339, 0.0361, and 0.0383 d(-1) at 20, 22.5, 25, 27.5, and 30°C, respectively. The net reproductive rate (r(0)) was highest at 25°C (35.0 offspring), and lowest at 20°C (17.0 offspring). T was shortest at 30°C (76.4 d). The results showed that temperature greatly affected the fecundity and life table parameters of O. nipae, and a suitable temperature for population development and fecundity was at 25°C. The life table data can be used for the projection of population growth and evaluation of control programs.  相似文献

Foraging groups of Formosan subterranean termites, Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki were tested for their relative humidity (RH) preference in a humidity gradient arena in the laboratory at a constant temperature of 26°C. Five RH levels (9%, 33%, 53%, 75%, and 98%) were maintained in the test arena comprising of a series of closed containers by using dry silica gel, saturated salt solutions, or distilled water alone. Termites gradually aggregated to the highest RH chamber in the arena. After 1 h, a significantly greater percentage of termites (≈46%) aggregated to the highest RH chamber (98%) than to the lower RH chambers (≤75%). After 12 h, > 97% of the termites aggregated to the 98% RH chamber. In survival tests, where termites were exposed to 15 combinatorial treatments of five RH levels (9%, 33%, 53%, 75%, and 98%) and three temperatures (20°C, 28°C, and 36°C) for a week, the survival was significantly influenced by RH, temperature, and their interaction. A significantly higher mortality was observed on termites exposed to ≤75% RH chambers than to 98% RH chamber at the three temperatures and significantly lower survival was found at 36°C than at 28°C or 20°C. The combination of temperature and RH plays an important role in the survival of C. formosanus.  相似文献

The root-feeding flea beetle Longitarsus bethae Savini & Escalona, was introduced into South Africa as a candidate biological control agent for the noxious and invasive weed, Lantana camara L. As part of the study to predict the beetles' survival in its new range, the influence of climatic conditions on its egg development and reproductive performance were investigated in the laboratory. The threshold temperature (T degrees) and degree-days (DD) required for egg hatch were determined after exposing the eggs to various constant temperatures (12, 17, 22, 27 and 32 degrees C) in separate growth chambers. The DD required for egg hatch was 178.6, and the temperature threshold required for egg hatch was 11.3 degrees C. Survival of eggs varied from 27 to 56% at 32 and 17 degrees C, respectively, and was optimum between 17 and 25 degrees C. Oviposition was examined under high and low relative humidity (RH) regimes while egg hatch was determined at six RH levels, each maintained in a separate controlled growth chamber set at a constant temperature (25 degrees C). Whilst RH had no influence on oviposition, eggs were highly susceptible to aridity, and continuous exposure to relative humidity below 63% for more than three days was wholly lethal at 25 degrees C. Optimum egg hatch occurred at RH between 85 and 95% for up to 12 days. The effect of day length on oviposition and subsequent egg hatch was investigated under two photoperiod regimes. Neither oviposition nor subsequent egg hatch was influenced by photoperiod. The knowledge obtained will be useful for mass rearing as well as field release programmes for L. bethae.  相似文献

Temperature strongly affects insect biological response. Effects of temperature on the sex ratio, preoviposition, fecundity, egg hatchability rate, and adult longevity of the L1 and T Thrips tabaci lineages were studied under laboratory conditions at three constant temperature levels (15, 23, and 30°C) on cabbage and tobacco leaf discs, respectively. Results showed that temperature affects all the tested life table parameters of L1 and T lineages. The proportion of female's log-linearly increased as temperature increased. Preoviposition period, fecundity, adult longevity, and egg hatchability rate were reduced significantly with increasing temperature. In both lineages, the lowest egg hatchability rates were recorded at 30°C and the highest rates were recorded at 15°C. Mean fecundity of the L1 and T lineages were 107.63 and 84.83 at 23°C, respectively, and mean fecundity of the L1 and T lineages were 19.88 and 70.82 at 15°C, respectively. The lowest mean fecundity was recorded at 15°C and 30°C for the L1 and T lineages, respectively. Mean longevity were 34.22 and 81.82 days at 15°C for L1 and T lineages, respectively. Whereas, the shortest mean longevity (13.63 and 13.91 days) was observed at 30°C for the L1 and T lineages, respectively. Our results demonstrated that 23°C was the optimum temperature for fecundity among the studied temperature levels for the studied population of the L1 and T T. tabaci lineages.  相似文献

The mealy plum aphid, Hyalopterus pruni (Geoffroy) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) is a pest of prune trees in California. The impact of aphids as pests is well characterized by their population growth rate, a parameter integrating their age-specific development, survivorship, and fecundity. These population parameters were measured at five constants temperatures on potted prune trees. Development rates increased with temperature up to an optimum. The relationship between development rate and temperature was described by linear and nonlinear models. Developmental threshold temperature was greater for the nonlinear model than for the linear model. Thermal requirement for development and maximum lethal temperature determined by these models were similar to those for other aphids. The greatest proportional survivorship of nymphs occurred at 26 degrees C. Mean daily fecundity was lowest at 14 degrees C and highest at 22 degrees C. Adult longevity decreased with temperature. Population growth rates for H. pruni were estimated from measurements of fecundity and development time and were highest at 22 degrees C. This is the first study to document the temperature dependence of the life history parameters for H. pruni and the first to generate a degree-day model for the prediction of phenological events.  相似文献

【目的】木薯单爪螨是新入侵我国的重要检疫性害螨,主要危害木薯,也可危害橡胶。近年来,该螨种群数量迅速增多,扩散范围不断增大,目前已在海南、云南、广西、广东等重要木薯产区发生并加重危害,危害严重时可导致木薯减产40%~60%。湿度是影响木薯单爪螨发育和繁殖的重要因素之一,但有关该方面的研究较少。【方法】通过室内饲养,观察比较了不同湿度条件下木薯单爪螨发育及繁殖情况。【结果】当湿度为75%和85%时,卵孵化率均达100%,平均每雌产卵量分别达49.22和43.67粒,雌成螨寿命分别为21.00和22.00 d;当湿度为55%和95%时,卵孵化率和后代产卵量显著降低,雌成螨寿命显著缩短;当湿度为65%时,卵孵化率、平均每雌产卵量以及成螨寿命均与75%和85%湿度处理无显著差异,但其发育历期显著延长。【结论】75%和85%是木薯单爪螨发育与繁殖的适宜湿度条件。  相似文献

Six native Kenyan species/strains of Trichogramma and Trichogrammatoidea, recovered from Helicoverpa armigera were evaluated at six different temperatures (10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35°C) and two relative humidity levels (40–50 and 70–80%) with the aim of selecting strains adapted to warmer temperature regimes. The species/strains were collected from low (<700 m), medium (between 700 and 1200 m) and high altitude (>1200 m) locations and were evaluated for parasitism, adult longevity, progeny production and progeny sex ratio at the different environmental regimes. Eggs of the factitious host, Corcyra cephalonica Stainton (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) were used in the investigations. Temperature and humidity interactions affected parasitism and progeny production. The highest parasitism at the two humidity levels was at 25 and 30°C for all the strains evaluated. Adult longevity was also significantly affected by the interaction of temperature and relative humidity and was longer at the lower than higher relative humidity. Survival followed a type I survivorship curve at lower temperatures and a type III survivorship curve at the higher temperatures. Trichogramma sp. nr. mwanzai from low altitude, Trichogramma sp. nr. mwanzai from medium altitude and Trichogrammatoidea sp. nr. lutea also from medium altitude lived longer than other strains at all the temperatures and relative humidity levels evaluated, including the warmest regimes of 30 and 35°C. These strains appear promising as candidates for augmentative biocontrol of H. armigera in Kenya.  相似文献

Ceratothripoides claratris (Shumsher) is a serious pest attacking tomatoes in Thailand. Temperature-dependent development of C. claratris was studied at seven constant temperatures, i.e. 22, 25, 27, 30, 34, 35 and 40 degrees C. Pre-adult survivorship was greatest (95%) at 25 and 30 degrees C and shortest at 22 degrees C. Egg-to-adult time decreased within the range of 20 to 30 degrees C and at 34 degrees C it started to increase. The lower thermal threshold for egg-to-adult development was estimated at 16 and 18 degrees C by linear regression and the modified Logan model, respectively. The optimum temperature for egg-to-adult development was estimated at 32-33 degrees C by the modified Logan model. The influence of temperature on reproduction and longevity of C. claratris was determined at 25, 30 and 35 and 40 degrees C. Both inseminated and virgin females failed to reproduce at 40 degrees C. Virgin females produced only male offspring, confirming arrhenotoky. The sex ratio of the offspring of fertilized females was strongly female-biased, except at 25 degrees C. Mean total fecundity per female and mean daily total fecundity per female were highest for both virgin and inseminated females at 30 degrees C. Female longevity was longest at 25 degrees C and shortest at 40 degrees C. Male longevity was longest at 30 degrees C and shortest at 40 degrees C. The net reproductive rate (R0) and intrinsic rate of natural increase (rm) was greatest at 30 degrees C while, mean generation time (G) and the doubling time (t) were highest at 25 degrees C. The finite rate of increase (lambda) was fairly constant (1.1-1.5 days) over the three temperatures tested. The pest potential of C. claratris for tropical Asia is discussed.  相似文献
