We present measurements of the maximum diameter of the planktonic foraminifer Neogloboquadrina pachyderma sin. from six sediment cores (Ocean Drilling Program sites 643, 644, 907, 909, 985 and 987) from the Norwegian–Greenland Sea. Our data show a distinct net increase in mean shell size of N. pachyderma sin. at all sites during the last 1.3 Ma, with largest shell sizes reached after 0.4 Ma. External factors such as glacial–interglacial variability and carbonate dissolution alone cannot account for the observed variation in mean shell size of N. pachyderma sin. We consider the observed shell size increase to mirror an evolutionary trend towards better adaptation of N. pachyderma sin. to the cold water environment after 1.1–1.0 Ma. Probably, the Mid Pleistocene climate shift and the associated change of amplitude and frequency of glacial–interglacial fluctuations have triggered the evolution of this planktonic foraminifer. Oxygen and carbon stable isotope analyses of different shell size classes indicate that the observed shell size increase could not be explained by the functional concept that larger shells promote increasing sinking velocities during gametogenesis. For paleoceanographic reconstructions, the evolutionary adaptation of Neogloboquadrina pachyderma sin. to the cold water habitat has significant implications. Carbonate sedimentation in highest latitudes is highly dependent on the presence of this species. In the Norwegian–Greenland Sea, carbonate-poor intervals before 1.1 Ma are, therefore, not necessarily related to severe glacial conditions. They are probably attributed to the absence of this not yet polar-adapted species. Further, transfer function and modern analog techniques used for the reconstruction of surface water conditions in high latitudes could, therefore, contain a large range of errors if they were applied to samples older than 1.1–1.0 Myrs.  相似文献

Recognition of North Pacific paleoceanographic events in the marginal Humboldt (Eel River) basin of northern California enables correlation of stratigraphic sections and development of a chronostratigraphy. Paleoclimatically related coiling shifts in Neogloboquadrina pachyderma (Ehrenberg) and benthic foraminiferal datums form the basis of the chronostratigraphy. Benthic foraminiferal datums are defined by the occurrence of selected benthic species and abundance maxima of benthic biofacies. The compiled chronostratigraphy is used to refine reconstructions of the depositional history of Humboldt basin. Paleoceanographic events, recognized by the distribution of benthic foraminiferal biofacies, are used to infer paleoceanographic history along the northeastern Pacific margin.

The similarity in coiling curves of N. pachyderma from the marine sequence at DSDP Site 173 and the coastal Centerville Beach section of Humboldt basin and at other independently dated sites along the northeastern Pacific margin demonstrates that matching records of climatic oscillations is a reliable method of correlating marine sequences. Benthic fauna from the Centerville Beach section vary in phase with climatically related coiling shifts in N. pachyderma. In particular these data show an increase in displaced neritic fauna during inferred warm intervals and resurgence of deeper bathyal fauna during inferred cool events. Similar data are observed from the inland Eel River section, demonstrating that benthic foraminiferal trends recognized at Centerville Beach can be identified elsewhere in Humboldt basin. This in-phase benthic response to climatic fluctuations probably results from changes in vertical depth range of many benthic species in response to paleoclimatically related vertical changes in water-mass position.

Depositional histories reconstructed for two key sites in southern Humboldt basin indicate low rates of sediment accumulation during early basin filling with hemipelagic sediments. Initiation of turbidite sedimentation in the early Pliocene resulted in a sharp increase in rate of sediment accumulation. This increase in rate of sediment accumulation is partially a response to tectonic uplift in the northern Coast Ranges and may be an effect of realignment of motion between the Pacific and North American plates at about this time. The inland site shoaled more rapidly during turbidite sedimentation as a result of a higher rate of sediment accumulation. The rate of sediment accumulation increased again at this site in the late Pliocene during deposition of shelf and nearshore facies. The Eel River region subsided concurrent with deposition of these shallow-water deposits.  相似文献

Planktonic foraminiferal records from Site 1083 (ODP Leg 175) were used to investigate changes in surface water conditions in the Northern Benguela Region over the past 450 ky. The assemblages of planktonic foraminifera are dominated by four species: sinistral coiling Neogloboquadrina pachyderma, dextral coiling N. pachyderma, Globigerina bulloides and Globorotalia inflata. Besides, tropical species deliver a small contribution to the assemblage.The most prominent temporal variations, displayed by N. pachyderma (s+d), represent changes in the coastal upwelling and the presence of cold, nutrient rich waters over the core site. Neogloboquadrina pachyderma (s+d) shows cyclic variability in the eccentricity and, to a less extent, precession frequencies. The changes indicate increased upwelling intensity in glacial maxima and precession maxima, and correlate well with the wind-strength record of Stuut et al. (2002). During glacial maxima, steep temperature gradients over the Southern Hemisphere caused strong SE trade winds and strong upwelling. Precession maxima cause a weak monsoonal circulation, more zonal SE trade winds, strong coastal upwelling, and nutrient-rich surface waters over ODP Site 1083.Advection of Angola Current (AC) surface water into the Walvis Basin, indicated by the tropical species, occurs when the Angola Benguela Front (ABF) is positioned southward. Occasionally, this happened during glacial maxima, as can be explained with the reconstructed and predicted meridional movements of the ABF. The amount of AC water was never sufficient to suppress the marine biological production at the core site.The contribution of Benguela Current (BC) water, reflected by Globorotalia inflata, is greatly determined by the upwelling. In periods of strong upwelling, the BC influence is suppressed.In several glacial substages, the temperature of the upwelling South Atlantic Central Water (SACW) may have been increased, as suggested by the dominance of Neogloboquadrina pachyderma (d) in the upwelling record. This phenomenon may be due to intensified subduction in the central South Atlantic that induces the formation of SACW, or to larger contributions of Eastern SACW to the upwelling water.Around 250–200 ky BP, a long-term shift to higher productivity occurred that is absent in the upwelling record. It was accompanied with a transition from a precession and obliquity variability to an eccentricity dominated variability in the Globorotalia inflata (BC) record. The shift was probably connected to a long-term southward shift of the circumpolar oceanic frontal systems south of the African continent.  相似文献

Studies on patterns of habitat use by mammals are necessary for understanding the mechanisms involved in their distribution and abundance. In this study, we used the spool-and-line method to investigate habitat utilization by two sigmodontine rodents from Brazilian Cerrado, Necromys lasiurus and Oryzomys scotti. We conducted the study in a Cerrado area in central Brazil (15°56′S and e 47°56′W) where the animals were caught in an area of 7.68 ha of Cerrado sensu stricto. Captured individuals were marked, equipped with a spool-and-line device, and released at the same capture point. The next day we followed the thread to record their daily movements and find their nests. To investigate microhabitat selection we compared habitat characteristics along trails of each studied species with general habitat characteristics of the study area. Although the mean 24-h distance was greater for N. lasiurus (mean ± SE: 41.9 ± 42.2 m, N=3) than for O. scotti (28.7 ± 14.2 m, N=6) this difference was not significant (Mann–Whitney test, U=26, P>0.6). We detected significant differences among observed microhabitats variables of both species and available microhabitat characteristics as determined by discriminant analysis (Wilks′s lambda F=3.001; df=14, 116; P<0.001). Both species were associated to microhabitat characteristics whose values differed markedly from the overall available habitat. Along the first canonical discriminant function of the DFA both them were associated with greater grass height than the mean height available and along the second axis N. lasiurus selected areas with higher fruit availability and more shelters than those selected by O. scotti. For stronger inferences regarding differential patterns of habitat utilization by Cerrado rodents we suggest the simultaneous use of both spool-and-line and standard trapping methods.  相似文献

A new species, Acaenodera spinosior, is described based on specimens collected from the intestine of Conger orbignyanus Valenciennes (Pisces: Congridae) caught in waters off Mar del Plata (38°08′S, 57°32′W), Argentina. Five of 36 congers examined were parasitized (prevalence: 13.9%, mean intensity: 2.6 ± 1.52, range: 1–5). The new species is distinguished from its only congener, Acaenodera placophora Manter and Pritchard, 1960, a parasite of congers off Hawaii, by its larger size, lacking eyespots, and exhibiting a greater number of circumoral, mid-ventral and lateral spines. This is the first record of Acaenodera Manter and Pritchard, 1960 in Atlantic waters.  相似文献

Abstract: The last one million years are important in terms of climate development during the so‐called Mid‐Pleistocene Transition when amplification of the glacial–interglacial cycles occurred. This study describes abundance changes in fossil planktonic foraminifera in sediments from Core T89‐40, retrieved from the Walvis Ridge in the south‐east Atlantic, across this time period. Cycles between upwelling and subtropical planktonic foraminiferal assemblages are shown to mirror changes between glacial and interglacial periods, respectively. During interglacial marine isotopic stages (MIS) 9, 11 and 31, however, anomalously high abundances of the polar left‐coiled Neogloboquadrina pachyderma occur, presumably linked to unusual seasonal upwelling waters. The planktonic foraminiferal abundance record shows 41‐ky cyclic variations in the regional oceanography linked to cycles in insolation influenced by changes in the Earth’s axial tilt (obliquity). These orbitally induced oscillations in oceanographic change occurred throughout the entire record. The most conspicuous feature of the planktonic foraminiferal record is the near absence of left‐coiled Globorotalia truncatulinoides between 960 and 610 ka (MIS 26‐15). The abrupt disappearance of this species is synchronous with the onset of the Mid‐Pleistocene Transition in MIS 26.  相似文献

A detailed record (≈2-kyr intervals) of the difference in stable carbon isotopes (Δδ13C) between Globigerina bulloides and Globigerinoides ruber (pink) is used to reconstruct changes in upwelling intensity off the Congo River for the last 190,000 yr. Comparisons of the oxygen and carbon isotope data from this core with records from the Niger Fan and from pelagic cores in the eastern equatorial South Atlantic indicate that the Congo Fan isotope records do not contain a strong freshwater signal as is described off other major rivers. The temporal pattern of the Δδ13C signal correlates with the marine organic carbon record from the Congo Fan. Thus the planktonic Δδ13C record, reflecting past changes in upwelling intensity and nutrient content, corroborates the signal provided by sedimentary organic carbon, which is presumed to indicate changes in the amount of biological productivity and export flux to the seafloor.

The planktonic Δδ13C signal is characterized by a dominant 23-kyr periodicity which provides evidence for a strong response of upwelling fluctuations off the Congo to precessional forcing. Minima in the Δδ13C record are aligned with periods of minimum boreal summer insolation over Central Africa reflecting an increase of upwelling and biological productivity off the Congo at periods of enhanced zonal intensity of southeast trades and corresponding weak southeast monsoon over the eastern South Atlantic. A strong response to changes in river discharge probably did not occur, indicating that fertilization by river-derived nutrients has played only a minor role with respect to Late Quaternary changes in the total amount of primary productivity off the Congo.  相似文献

A late Eocene—early Oligocene planktonic foraminiferal oxygen-isotope stratigraphy derived for two overlapping sections (Browns Creek and Castle Cove) through paleoshelf sequences in southern Victoria, Australia, contains a pronounced late Eocene depletion (warm) peak (1.2%PDB) centred at about 41 Ma, followed by a two-stage enrichment (cooling) pattern, the later one coinciding with the well known Terminal Eocene Event (37 Ma), exhibiting 1.0%PDB) erinchment. The early Oligocene isotope stratigraphy shows fluctuations of about 1.0%PDB, with prominent depletion peak immediately following the terminal Eocene δ18O enrichment. The start of the terminal Eocene δ18O enrichment coincides with the LAD of the nannofossil indicator of the Eo-Oligocene boundary, Discoaster saipanensis (early NP21 Zone). On this basis the traditional southern Australia planktonic foraminiferal Eocene-Oligocene boudary markers (LAD Globigerapsis index, LAD Subbotina linaperta Subbotina linaperta) locally survived into Zone NP22, well into the early Oligocene.

Sea-surface paleotemperature estimates derived from the δ18O data assuming a δW value of −1.2%PDB, show that the late Eocene ingression of the tropical planktonic foraminiferal genus Hankenina coincided with peak surface-water tempertures of 24°C. The temperature decline in the southern Australia shelf waters associated with the Terminal Eocene Event may have been as much as 7°C, reaching a minimum value of 13°C. The later survival of G. index and S. linaperta coincides with a rapid recovery of water temperatures over the south Australian shelf following the Terminal Eocene Event. This is attributed to the local warming of waters in shallow broad embayments where circulation patterns were decoupled from the developing Circum-Antartic Current to the south.  相似文献

Abundances of two harpacticoid copepod species, Enhydrosoma littorale Wells and Zausodes c.f. arenicolus Wilson, were significantly higher in one of two adjacent subtidal, soft-bottom habitats in St. George Sound, Florida (29°54′N : 84°37′48′′W). For Enhydrosoma littorale, a laboratory-preference experiment indicated that sediment-related factors caused the observed distribution. In a series of preference experiments, differences between the sediments of the two habitats in granulometry and organic matter were shown not to account for the preference. Rather, the preference results from differences in the microbes attached to the sediment particles in the two areas. In contrast, Zausodes c.f. arenicolus did nol prefer sediments from its area of high field abundance in laboratory preference experiments, indicating that factors external to the sediment i.e. hydrographic conditions or biological interactions, were responsible for this species' distribution.  相似文献

The effects of light on the metabolic rates of the hypogean amphipod Niphargus stygius and the epigean amphipod Gammarus fossarum were compared by measuring oxygen consumption and respiratory electron transport system (ETS) activity. They were exposed to light intensities of 720 and 4700 lx at 10°C. Oxygen consumption increased significantly in N. stygius exposed to both low and high intensities of light, but no significant increase was observed in G. fossarum at either intensity. The increase of oxygen consumption in N. stygius was significantly greater at the higher light intensity. This indicates a stress response in which exploitation of half the metabolic potential for energy production in N. stygius during exposure to high light intensity constitutes an adverse effect on its metabolism, since this species usually uses less than 25% of its total metabolic potential for standard metabolic demands.  相似文献

The structures of benthic foraminiferal communities inside and outside the territory of the pomacentrid damselfish Stegastes nigricans on coral rocks in a moat of Sesoko Is. (26°38′N, 127°52′E) in Okinawa, Japan were compared. Inside the territory, an algal farm, i.e., a dense stand of a filamentous rhodophyte, Womersleyella setacea, was maintained throughout the year. Outside the territory, in areas subjected to intensive and continuous grazing by various grazers, the flora was composed of mat-like cyanophytes, a prostrate turf-form Padina sp., microscopically thin filaments and scattered filamentous rhodophytes. Algal biomass was greater inside the territory than outside the territory of the damselfish. These differences were reflected by the structure of the associated foraminiferal communities. We classified foraminiferal species based on their microhabitat use around algal communities into four life types: free-living type, crawling type, sedentary type, and sessile type. The abundance of foraminifera, especially the free-living type (e.g., Peneroplis pertusus and Quinqueloculina seminulum) and sedentary type (Rosalina globularis and Cymbaloporetta squammosa), was greater inside the territory of the damselfish than outside the territory. Species richness was also higher inside the territory, mainly due to an increase in species richness of the free-living and sedentary types. These increases in abundance and species richness were caused by habitat structuring. W. setacea is a relatively tall and complicated alga with tangled rhizoids. Its dense stand inside the territory trapped a larger amount of sediment, which provided free-living foraminifera with heterogeneous and stable habitats. In addition, the dense stand of W. setacea provided sedentary-type foraminifera with a large, complex substratum, providing refuge and food inside the territory. This assumption was confirmed by the results of plate experiments showing that foraminiferal community structures were controlled by associations between foraminifera and algae. We showed that habitat-conditioning is an important process in biotic habitat-structuring and that habitat-conditioning by territorial damselfish maintains and enhances multi-species coexistence of foraminifera on coral rocks in a coral reef.  相似文献

The X-ray diffraction of dragline silks, produced by Nephila and Cyrtophora spiders, were measured by synchrotron radiation in their original states or in situ during stretching and heating. Nephila pilipes spiders construct a two-dimensional orb web that must be rebuilt in one or 2 days, but Cyrtophora spiders form a three-dimensional tent web that can exist for several weeks in a tropical forest. Diffraction patterns of N. pilipes and Cyrtophora draglines resemble each other. Crystals of two kinds are identified in these draglines; one is aligned parallel to the silk direction and another is less oriented. The less oriented crystal in Cyrtophora dragline is aligned better than that in N. pilipes dragline, which generates about three times stronger diffract intensity. Crystals in N. pilipes and C. moluccensis dragline silks have remarkable thermal stability. Equatorial reflections remain undiminished until 350 and 450 °C for N. pilipes and C. moluccensis, respectively. In contrast, the meridional reflections S and (0 0 2), which are parallel to the silk thread, disappear at a temperature less than 100 °C for C. moluccensis but remain for Nephila up to 100 °C. Meridional reflections S and (0 0 2) shift to a smaller angle during stretching, whereas equatorial reflections remain constant in a range 1.0–1.3 times the original length. The position of the S reflection shifts rapidly in the first 10% of elongation from the original length but remains constant during subsequent stretching, whereas the (0 0 2) reflection shifts rapidly during the first 5% elongation from the original length and continues to shift subsequently. In contrast, the features of N. pilipes dragline alter insignificantly during stretching. Examination of the composition of amino acids of the draglines of N. pilipes and C. moluccensis indicates that a dragline of N. pilipes contains more glycine, but much less alanine, than that of C. moluccensis.  相似文献

The first fossil desmodontine record and the only well documented chiropteran fossil record from Argentina is described. A complete left upper canine was collected at Centinela del Mar (38°21′S58°W, General Alvarado County, Buenos Aires Province) from fossil-bearing sediments referred to the Late Holocene. The tooth size is 25% larger than that of the modern vampire bat, Desmodus rotundus. We assign this tooth to Desmodus cf. D. draculae, an extinct species recorded in the Pleistocene–Holocene of South America (Brazil and Venezuela). The southernmost distribution of present-day Desmodus extends to northeast Buenos Aires province (35°S). The presence of Desmodus some 600 km south of this present-day limit (July minimal isotherm of 10°C) indicates that around 300 years BP the southeastern Buenos Aires province was at least 2°C higher than modern July isotherm. The Desmodus tooth is associated with sigmodontine rodents characteristic of subtropical and temperate-warm areas (e. g., Pseudoryzomys simplex, Bibimys cf. B. torresi), and provides additional evidence to support this hypothesis. A correlation with a global warming phase is discussed.  相似文献

New pollen data from a 770-cm core of a mire at Humptulips on the southwestern Olympic Peninsula (47°17′00″N, 123°54′40″W) and from a nearby deposit regarded as interglacial in age on the West Fork of the Humptulips River provide evidence for a reinterpretation of previous accounts of the Quaternary vegetation and climate. Using a new age model, the highly variable record at Humptulips is here correlated with marine oxygen-isotope stages (OIS) 1–5a. Vegetation during OIS 5a was pine-dominated, mixed woodland and tundra. In OIS 4, 3, and 2, oscillations in pollen assemblages imply repeated intervals of mountain hemlock parkland and tundra. Pine, as an indicator of openness, is also abundant in these stages. Interstadial fluctuations in OIS 3 reflect episodes of lowland western hemlock communities. The earliest of the episodes is of infinite radiocarbon age and the latest dates to approximately 30,000 14C yr B.P. Parkland in OIS 2, occurring after 24,600 until at least 18,440 14C yr B.P., was replaced by transitional pine–alder in OIS 1 (Holocene), which, unlike any of the earlier stages, conveys the development of modern lowland forest dominated by western hemlock. Pollen assemblages over the length of record imply that temperature and humidity at no time were as high as at present; only in OIS 3 do conditions approach those occurring in OIS 1. During OIS 2, 3, and 4, when tree line apparently stood at the location of the site, climate was colder and drier. Temperatures were depressed an estimated ≥5°C with precipitation close to 1000 mm compared with 2000–3000 mm at present. Atmospheric circulation during OIS 2 appears to have been much controlled by the location of the Laurentide ice sheet in the continental interior, whereas under the current climatic regime beginning in the early Holocene, westerly air flow has dominated, regulated by interplay between the North Pacific high in summer and the wintertime Aleutian low.  相似文献

A continuous palynological record from the marine core GeoB1016-3 from the Angola Basin reveals the regional vegetation and climate history of the last 300 ka. Pollen and spores found at the studied site have their source areas in the different vegetation zones of the adjacent part of the West African continent. Those vegetation zones comprise tropical rain forest, coastal mangrove swamp, Miombo woodland, dry forest, Afromontane forest, desert and semi-desert. The main pollen transport agent is the southeast trade wind system. Ocean currents also partly play a role in transporting pollen and spores. During the interglacial periods, ocean currents also transported palynomorphs southward. During the glacial periods, increased trade winds are indicated by high influx of pollen and spores and high pollen percentages of Poaceae and taxa from desert and semidesert vegetations. Reconstruction of the geographical position of palaeo-vegetation zones shows that the northern boundary of the Namib Desert did not move north of 12°S during the last 300 ka. This implies that northward shifts of the Angola-Benguela Front did not pass the latitude of 12°S.  相似文献

This study uses chlorophyll a fluorescence to examine the effect of environmentally relevant (1–4 h) exposures of thermal stress (35–45 °C) on seagrass photosynthetic yield in seven tropical species of seagrasses. Acute response of each tropical seagrass species to thermal stress was characterised, and the capacity of each species to tolerate and recover from thermal stress was assessed. Two fundamental characteristics of heat stress were observed. The first effect was a decrease in photosynthetic yield (Fv / Fm) characterised by reductions in F and Fm′. The dramatic decline in Fv / Fm ratio, due to chronic inhibition of photosynthesis, indicates an intolerance of Halophila ovalis, Zostera capricorni and Syringodium isoetifolium to ecologically relevant exposures of thermal stress and structural alterations to the PhotoSystem II (PSII) reaction centres. The decline in Fm′ represents heat-induced photoinhibition related to closure of PSII reaction centres and chloroplast dysfunction. The key finding was that Cymodocea rotundata, Cymodocea serrulata, Halodule uninervis and Thalassia hemprichii were more tolerant to thermal stress than H. ovalis, Z. capricorni and S. isoetifolium. After 3 days of 4 h temperature treatments ranging from 25 to 40 °C, C. rotundata, C. serrulata and H. uninervis demonstrated a wide tolerance to temperature with no detrimental effect on Fv / Fm′ qN or qP responses. These three species are restricted to subtropical and tropical waters and their tolerance to seawater temperatures up to 40 °C is likely to be an adaptive response to high temperatures commonly occurring at low tides and peak solar irradiance. The results of temperature experiments suggest that the photosynthetic condition of all seagrass species tested are likely to suffer irreparable effects from short-term or episodic changes in seawater temperatures as high as 40–45 °C. Acute stress responses of seagrasses to elevated seawater temperatures are consistent with observed reductions in above-ground biomass during a recent El Niño event.  相似文献

A number of highly purified polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) isomers and congeners were synthesized and administered to male Wistar rats at dosage levels of 30 and 150 μmol · kg−1. The effects of this in vivo treatment on the drug-metabolizing enzymes were determined by measuring the microsomal benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P) hydroxylase, dimethylaminoantipyrine (DMAP) N-demethylase and NADPH-cytochrome c reductase enzyme activities, the cytochrome b5 content and the relative peak intensities and spectral shifts of the reduced microsomal cytochrome P-450: CO and ethylisocyanide (EIC) binding difference spectra. The results were compared to the effects of administering phenobarbitone (PB), 3-methylcholanthrene (MC) and PB plus MC (coadministered) to the test animals. The synthetic PCB congeners used in this study included 3,4,4′,5-tetrachlorobiphenyl (TCBP-1), 2,3′,4,4′-tetrachlorobiphenyl (TCBP-2), 2,3′,4,4′,5′-pentachlorobiphenyl (PCBP-1), 2,3,4,4′,5-pentachlorobiphenyl (PCBP-2), 2,3,3′,4,4′,5-hexachlorobiphenyl (HCBP-1), 2,3,3′,4′,5,6-hexachlorobiphenyl (HCBP-2), 2,3,3′,5,5′,6-hexachlorobiphenyl (HCBP-3), 2,2′,3,5,5′,6-hexachlorobiphenyl (HCBP-4) and 2,3,3′,4,5,5′-hexachlorobiphenyl (HCBP-5) and were used to reappraise the structure-activity rules for PCBs as hepatic microsomal enzyme inducers. We evaluate onshore-offshore trends in age-frequency distributions and trophic transfer efficiencies using 11 modern death assemblages off the Texas coast. Trophic transfer efficiencies within trophic levels offer little insight over that achieved by a size-frequency distribution. Production/biomass ratios will always be 1 in the fossil record. Within trophic-level estimates of paleogrowth efficiency, the ratio of paleoproduction to paleoingestion (Piglt/Iilt where i indicates the ith trophic level and lt indicates the time-averaged value) follow the expected ecological trend precisely in that paleogrowth efficiency is consistently higher in primary consumers than in predators in all 11 death assemblages. Paleoutilization efficiency, the ratio of predator paleoingestion to prey paleoproduction, I2lt°/P1glt°, may provide information on the degree of bias in the preservation of primary (1 °) and secondary (2 °) consumer trophic groups. I2lt°/P1glt° fell below 0.1 in most cold-seep and bay assemblages, indicating a large surplus of primary consumers. In sharp contrast, I2lt°/P1glt°  相似文献

The new disymmetric ligand N,N,N′-tris(2-pyridylmethyl)-N′-(2-salicylideneethyl)ethane-1,2-diamine (LH) has been synthesized in the search of a novel type of manganese complex to mimic the active site of the water-oxidizing enzyme in photosystem II. The complex [Mn(II)L]ClO4 has been obtained and characterized by X-ray diffraction techniques. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group Pn with the following unit cell parameters: a=10.164(3), b=10.122(4), c=14.166(5) Å, β=93.48(2)° and Z=2. The manganese ion is heptacoordinated with the coordination being achieved by only one ligand; it is bonded to the oxygen atom of the phenolate group in an axial position, the imino and the three pyridine nitrogen atoms in an equatorial position and the two amine atoms in a pseudo-axial position. The coordination polyhedron is best described as a distorted monocapped trigonal prism. This structure was compared with the seven-coordinated Mn(II) complexes deposited in the Cambridge Structured Database (CSD). The redox potential of the Mn(III)/Mn(II) couple was determined by cyclic voltammetry.  相似文献

N,N-Dimethylation of the H-Dmt-Tic-NH-CH(R)-R′ series of compounds produced no significant affect on the high δ-opioid receptor affinity (Ki=0.035–0.454 nM), but dramatically decreased that for the μ-opioid receptor. The effect of N-methylation was independent of the length of the linker (R); however, the bioactivities were affected by the chemical composition of the third aromatic group (R′): phenyl (Ph) (5′–8′) elicited a greater reduction in μ-affinity (40–70-fold) compared to analogues containing 1H-benzimidazole-2-yl (Bid) (9-fold). The major consequences of N,N-dimethylation on in vitro bioactivity were: (i) a loss of δ-agonism coupled with the appearance of potent δ antagonism (4′–7′) (pA2=8.14–9.47), while 1 exhibited only a 160-fold decreased δ agonism (1′) and the δ antagonism of 8 enhanced >10-fold (pA2=10.62, 8′); and (ii) a consistent loss of μ-affinity resulted in enhanced δ-opioid receptor selectivity. With the exception of compound 1′, the change in the hydrophobic environment at the N-terminus and formation of a tertiary amine by N,N-dimethylation in analogues of the Dmt-Tic pharmacophore produced potent δ-selective antagonists.  相似文献
