Using the guild ratio to characterize pelagic rotifer communities   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Ecological research is moving from a species-based to a functional-based approach to better understand the underlying principles that govern community dynamics. Studies of functional-based ecology, however, have been limited for zooplankton and particularly for rotifers. While rotifers show a variety of trophi types and coronal shapes, suggesting the importance of niche differentiation in their feeding strategy, relatively little is known of how this relates to rotifer dynamics. We used the guild ratio (GR′, a ratio of raptorial to microphagous species), an index based on a functional trait (i.e. feeding strategy), as a novel approach to rotifer dynamics. We extracted the seasonal GR′ by using seasonal trend decomposition and investigated similarities between study sites (Lake Washington, USA and Lake Caldonazzo, Italy) and its relation to cladocerans by cross-correlation analysis. Our study indicated that (i) raptorial and microphagous rotifers showed alternating dominance, and that raptorial rotifers and cladocerans had a synchronous pattern, (ii) the seasonal pattern of the GR′ was consistent across different sampling frequencies, and (iii) the GR′ was similar in both lakes. We interpreted these patterns as the general strength of the GR′: discernment of species–environment relationships and robustness across sampling regimes. The limitations of the GR′ (i.e. species identity is neglected, simplification of food preferences) can also be seen as its strong point: synthesis of multi-species patterns. In addition, the independence of GR′ from species-level identification and its potential to make use of datasets with infrequent sampling intervals and low taxon resolution could further support its innovative aspect.  相似文献

为了解水生植物栽培对水环境及轮虫群落结构的影响,于2015年10月至2016年9月,对广州市暨南大学校园两个小型湖泊——明湖和南湖进行了周年调查.明湖无水生植物生长,南湖3—10月有水生植物轮叶黑藻生长,其中6—9月为植物旺盛生长时期.调查发现: 两湖共记录轮虫50种,分属于23个属,其中臂尾轮属、异尾轮属和腔轮属种类较多,均有8种.明湖记录轮虫32种,南湖记录39种. 明湖优势种主要有广布多肢轮虫、暗小异尾轮虫和微型多突轮虫;南湖优势种主要有螺形龟甲轮虫、爱德里亚狭甲轮虫和囊形腔轮虫.明湖轮虫丰度在2015年10月最高,达到3790 ind·L-1,2016年3月最低,为854 ind·L-1.南湖轮虫丰度在2015年11月最高,达到3555 ind·L-1,2016年1月最低,为977 ind·L-1.相似性分析表明,明湖与南湖水体轮虫群落结构差异显著,其中螺形龟甲轮虫为两湖群落结构差异贡献率最高的物种,其次为广布多肢轮虫.冗余分析表明,明湖轮虫群落结构主要受总磷、叶绿素a、水温的影响;南湖水生植物旺盛生长期,轮虫群落结构受总磷、温度、叶绿素a、深度的影响较大,优势种为底栖的无棘鳞冠轮虫、爱德里亚狭甲轮虫和囊形腔轮虫;水生植物开始生长时期主要受总氮和透明度的影响,优势种为浮游的广布多肢轮虫和等棘异尾轮虫;而无水生植物生长期主要受pH和溶解氧的影响较大,优势种亦为浮游性种,广布多肢轮虫、裂痕龟纹轮虫等.水生植物生长可有效降低N、P营养盐浓度,改善水质,增加空间异质性,支持更多轮虫种类生存,对水域生态系统的稳定具有重要作用.  相似文献

The distribution and ecology of benthic, periphytic and planktonic rotifers were investigated in a wide range of alpine waterbodies in Austria. A total of 162 substrate classified samples was taken at 60 sampling sites situated between 1824 m and 2753 m a.s.l. in the Central Alps (predominantly gneiss) and between 1290 m and 1643 m a.s.l. in the Northeastern Calcareous Alps. Multivariate analysis allowed the recognition of distinct sampling site groups. Different groups of taxa were identified on the basis of their total frequencies of occurrence and frequency of co-occurrence. Several species were shown to have distributions restricted to particular groups of habitats. Habitat complexity, as indicated by taxon diversity and density of submersed vegetation, pH, conductivity, and temperature seem to be the principal components affecting community composition and distribution of single species in alpine waterbodies. Highest diversities were measured in limestone solution lakes and acid bog ponds on primary bedrock.  相似文献

SUMMARY. 1. The paper describes diatom communities from a series of linked urban lakes in relation to water chemistry and uses multivariate statistical techniques to show how indicator groups can he defined.
2. Diatoms are classified into ecological groups using two-way species indicator analysis (TWINSPAN). Each ecological group is associated with a specific range of water-quality conditions. The headwater stream environments are differentiated from the lake habitats at level 1. At level 2 of TWINSPAN. the sampling sites are grouped into five ecological groups, according to their water chemistry and irrespective of the time of year.
3. Detrended correspondence analysis (DCA) and principal components analysis (PCA) provide two statistically independent methods of assessing the environmental gradients along which the ecological groups are distributed. The most important physico-chemical parameters are total hardness, specific conductance and pH, followed by phosphates and nitrates.
4. Ecological groups I-V correspond to an environmental gradient ranging from the forested headwaters, which are acidic, of low specific conductance, total hardness and nutrient content, through the urban lakes, which are alkaline and of relatively high total hardness, specific conductance and nutrient content.
5. Twelve site groups are identified at level 3 of TWINSPAN, each of which corresponds to a narrower range of water-quality conditions within the ecological groupings. A specific diatom assemblage is associated with each site group.
6. Benthic diatoms form an integral part of the diatom assemblages found in the water column and this is identified as a topic for further study.  相似文献

基于2011年5月和9月2个航次获取的生物及环境数据, 分析了渤海湾大型底栖动物的功能摄食群组成, 并首次利用以生物量构建的摄食均匀度指数(the feeding evenness index, bjFD)和多元AZTI海洋生物指数(multivariate-biomass AZTI marine biotic index, M-bAMBI)对渤海湾生态质量进行评价。结果表明, 渤海湾大型底栖动物功能群由4类组成, 分别是肉食者、碎屑食者、浮游生物食者和杂食者, 未发现植食者。2个航次均以浮游生物食者和杂食者的生物量最高, 碎屑食者最低。聚类分析结果表明海河口内大型底栖动物群落功能摄食群组成与其他区域明显不同。两个航次均以海河口的重金属潜在生态风险指数值(risk index, RI)较低, 且5月航次该指数沿河口向外有明显的空间分布梯度。bjFD平均值为0.28, 指示研究区大部分区域生态质量较差, 其中低值区集中在海河口、北塘口及其附近海域, 与风险指数值的低值区基本吻合。BEST分析表明温度、盐度、重金属及营养盐等是影响bjFD变化的主要环境因子。与M-bAMBI相比, bjFD对海河口及北塘口较差的环境质量状况更为敏感。总体上, bjFD适用于评价渤海湾的生态质量。  相似文献

On the basis of periodic collections of rotifers from 29 lakes and ponds over 2500 m above sea level in the Sierra Nevada (Southern Spain), patterns of species richness, distribution and community composition were evaluated. Results allow us to distinguish communities which fall into two major lake types. One is defined by the presence of typically planktonic species as well as lower specific richness whereas the other includes communities of mainly benthic and periphytic species. Both lake types seem to be related to small differences in their physical and chemical characteristics. 1. Benthic organisms can have a strong effect on the plankton in rivers, although normally only members of the macrofauna are considered as important consumers. In the present study we conducted experiments on four different dates (in December, March, June and September) to assess the potential role of periphytic heterotrophic flagellates (HF), ciliates and rotifers in the control of potamoplankton (bacteria, algae, HF and ciliates). 2. Natural periphyton was established on the walls of circular flow channels by exposing them to river water (River Rhine, Germany). The experimental channels (with periphyton) and control channels (without periphyton) were filled with riverine water and the increase rates of planktonic bacteria, algae, HF and oligotrich ciliates were determined for the two treatments. 3. The abundance of periphytic ciliates and rotifers at the beginning of the four experiments showed large differences with low values in December and March, and high values in June and September. Dominant potential consumers of plankton were the heterotrich ciliate Stentor sp. and bdelloid rotifers. 4. The rates of increase of planktonic algae, HF and ciliates were significantly smaller in the presence of periphyton compared with those in their absence. Significant interactions between the treatment (with and without periphyton) and the time of experiment were found for the planktonic HF and algae, indicating that the impact of the periphyton varied temporarily. The planktonic groups responded differently to the periphyton with the planktonic HF showing the highest loss rate. Significant differences were also found among the loss rates of different HF groups and different diatom size classes. 5. These laboratory experiments demonstrate that periphytic ciliates and rotifers are potentially important consumers of different planktonic groups. The quantitative impact of periphyton on plankton with respect to the selective feeding needs further attention.  相似文献

Short-term species succession, and long-term community development, of planktonic rotifer populations of the temperate zone and factors influencing species' abundance (ie., physical and chemical limitations, food and exploitative competition, mechanical interference competition, predation, parasitism) are described and discussed. The long-term development of plankton communities in three European lakes is described and the major events are discussed in relation to ecological interactions. Frequently, the shortcomings of our knowledge about population ecology and ecophysiology of rotifers prevent explanations of short-term and, especially, of long-term developments of these plankton organisms. The need for qualitative and quantitative observations in the field and in the laboratory over long periods becomes obvious.  相似文献

We propose and test a new Phytoplankton Community Index (PhyCoI) for monitoring the ecological status of lakes and reservoirs. The design of our PhyCoI is based on the fact that phytoplankton biomass and community structure respond to changes in water quality (mainly eutrophication) and by themselves also influence water quality. In order to accommodate this double role of phytoplankton as indicator and impact, PhyCoI is based on phytoplankton community properties at different hierarchical levels combining both specific metrics (total biomass, taxonomic group biomass, cyanobacteria contribution, taxonomic group species richness) and new or modified sub-indices. It is calculated from the scores of the different metrics/sub-indices resulting in a final index value in the range from 0 to 5, to assess water quality on the basis of five ecological classes according to the Water Framework Directive (WFD). The test of PhyCoI was based on Carlson's Trophic State Index (TSISD) based on water transparency (Secchi depth) in 26 Greek lakes and reservoirs covering the entire spectrum from oligotrophic to hypertrophic. A highly significant relationship at p < 0.001 between the two variables was found, with the values of the PhyCoI declining with increasing TSISD. Furthermore, a significant relationship between the PhyCoI and land use types at the watershed of the studied freshwaters was found identifying permanent crops, pastures and shrubs and herbaceous vegetation associations as significant predictors of PhyCoI values. Because of the amount of labor involved in obtaining the PhyCoI we suggest to combine low frequency PhyCoI determinations with a high frequency Secchi depth measurements for practical monitoring purposes.  相似文献

2004年4月-2005年4月,对珠江广州河段轮虫群落结构特征进行了初步研究。经鉴定,共发现轮虫65种(包括亚种),其中西氏三肢轮虫(Filinia novaezealandiae)、华美腔轮虫(Lecane elegans)为我国的新记录种。优势种为裂痕龟纹轮虫(Anuraeopsis fissa)、角突臂尾轮虫(Brachionus angularis)、尾突臂尾轮虫(Brachionus caudatus)、Filinia novaezealandiae、暗小异尾轮虫(Trichocerca pusilla)和微型多突轮虫(Liliferotrocha subtilis)。调查发现径流量对轮虫密度有重要影响,轮虫的两次密度高峰分别出现在春末夏初和秋季。丰水期,轮虫密度较低;枯水期前期,轮虫密度较高;枯水期后期,轮虫密度较低。此外,轮虫种群还受到温度、盐度等因素的影响。研究结果表明轮虫在河流生态系统中具有重要作用。  相似文献

Chironomids of the River Mignone (Central Italy) were studied in order to examine their community structure and their relationship to some common biological indices (Biotic Score, Extended Biotic Index, Indice Biotique de Qualité Générale) utilizing the total macroinvertebrate fauna (chironomids generally at family level) for water quality assessment in rivers.A total of 36 taxa belonging to Tanypodinae (2 taxa), Orthocladiinae (22 taxa) and Chironominae (12 taxa) was collected at seven stations four times during a year. The results support the importance of the chironomid identification in water quality assessment studies in rivers, and demonstrate the usefulness of the factorial correspondence analysis as ordination technique based on both qualitative and quantitative chironomid data to determine environmental quality gradients.The value as bioindicator of some taxa was discussed, and chironomid assemblages were related to biological water quality of the river according to functional feeding groups.This study forms part of a larger Research project supported by MPI and CNR grants and is aimed at the biological water quality assessment of the river and at the analysis of the total macrobenthic community.  相似文献

The rotiferan jaw apparatus (mastax) is characterized by enormous plasticity and according to morphology and feeding strategy, different mastax types can be distinguished. The cuticular hard parts (trophi) of the mastax are often highly specialized and have both a major taxonomic and phylogenetic relevance. Owing to numerous light and scanning electron microscopic studies, the morphology of the trophi is well known but only few attempts have been made to analyze the morphology and functionality of the mastax as a whole. Particularly, the complex muscular system connecting the individual trophi elements and moving them against each other was disregarded in the past. Therefore, the subject of the present study is a detailed analysis of the mastax musculature of the proalid rotifer Bryceella stylata using a combination of transmission electron and confocal laser scanning microscopic techniques, previously applied for revealing the somatic musculature in rotifers exclusively. Based on ultrathin serial sections and phalloidin-dyed specimens, a total number of six paired and two unpaired individual mastax muscles have been identified for the modified malleate trophi system of B. stylata. Possibly homologous muscles in other, so far investigated rotifer species are discussed as well as functional considerations of the individual mastax muscles and their interaction when moving the trophi elements are suggested.  相似文献

Prudent management of lotic systems requires information on their ecological status that can be estimated by monitoring water quality and biodiversity attributes. To understand environmental conditions in Gatharaini drainage basin in Central Kenya, a study was carried out to establish the relationship between water quality and macroinvertebrate assemblages between the months of March and September 1996. Six sampling sites, each 25 m long were selected along a 24‐km stretch of the stream, which drained land under agricultural, residential and industrial use. Water physico‐chemical data was explored using multivariate analysis of Principal Component Analysis to detect environmental trends downstream. Both macroinvertebrates and water physico‐chemical data of suggested trends were analysed for variations and correlations. Temperatures and invertebrate densities changed significantly between the dry and wet season (P < 0.01) but the fluctuations were not evident downstream. Water physico‐chemical characteristics (total dissolved solids (TDS), pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen) and biodiversity indices (species richness, diversity, dominance, evenness) changed markedly downstream (P < 0.01). Biodiversity indices correlated inversely with TDS, pH and turbidity but positively with dissolved O2. It was evident macroinvertebrate assemblages changed significantly downstream as opposed to functional feeding groups. Diptera was important in most sites whilst Oligochaeta dominance increased downstream corresponding to the deterioration in water quality. Collectors/browsers were the dominant functional feeding groups at most sites. This study showed that significant changes in aquatic macroinvertebrate assemblages were primarily due to water quality rather than prevailing climatic conditions.  相似文献

1. The major aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that nutrient enrichment and the introduction of the Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), an exotic omnivorous filter‐feeding fish, operate interdependently to regulate plankton communities and water transparency of a tropical reservoir in the semi‐arid northeastern Brazil. 2. A field experiment was performed for 5 weeks in 20 enclosures (9.8 m3) to which four treatments were randomly allocated: tilapia addition (F), nutrient addition (N), tilapia and nutrient addition (F + N) and a control treatment with no tilapia or nutrient addition (C). A two‐way repeated measures anova was undertaken to test for time, tilapia and nutrient effects and their interactions on water transparency, total phosphorus and total nitrogen concentrations, phytoplankton biovolume and zooplankton biomass. 3. Nutrient addition had no effect except on rotifer biomass, but there were significant fish effects on the biomass of total zooplankton, copepod nauplii, rotifers, cladocerans and calanoid copepods and on the biovolume of total phytoplankton, large algae (GALD ≥ 50 μm), Bacillariophyta and Zygnemaphyceae and on Secchi depth. In addition, we found significant interaction effects between tilapia and nutrients on Secchi depth and rotifers. Overall, tilapia decreased the biomass of most zooplankton taxa and large algae (diatoms) and decreased water transparency, while nutrient enrichment increased the biomass of rotifers, but only in the absence of tilapia. 4. In conclusion, the influence of fish on the reservoir plankton community and water transparency was significant and even greater than that of nutrient loading. This suggests that biomanipulation of filter‐feeding tilapias may be of importance for water quality management of eutrophic reservoirs in tropical semi‐arid regions.  相似文献

This study was designed to find out which environmental factors (temperature, oxygen concentration and food resources) are more important in steering the rotifers vertical distribution and community structure in an oligo-changing to-mesotrophic reservoir. It was observed that, despite the influence of temperature and oxygen content of the water, biotic factors especially the food availability and changes in trophic state were crucial in shaping the vertical distribution and species composition of rotifers in Meimoa Reservoir, located in Tagus River in Portugal.  相似文献

The structure of the mid-summer planktonic rotifer communities of 101 Adirondack lakes ranging in pH from 4.0 to 7.3 were characterized in relation to acidity and selected water quality parameters. More than 70 rotifer species were identified from collections in 1982 and 1984. None of the species collected could be considered acidobiontic or alkalibiontic. Keratella taurocephala was the most commonly collected rotifer, occurring in 94 of the study lakes. It was abundant throughout the range of pH investigated but was particularly dominant in acidic waters, averaging > 85 % of the rotifers collected from waters of pH < 5.0.Rotifer community structure can be related to three groups of water quality parameters. Community parameters (richness and diversity) are most highly correlated with parameters indicative of acidity status. Rotifer abundance correlates with trophic state indicators, i.e. chlorophyll a and total phosphorus, over the full range of pH investigated. However, in acidic lakes, rotifer abundance is related to true color and DOC, indicators of humic influences.The rotifer communities of the Adirondacks can be classified into four broad types: 1) A diverse, productive community of the more alkaline lakes, generally with 13 species, and dominated by Conochilus unicornis, Kellicottia bostoniensis, Kellicottia longispina, and Polyarthra major; 2) Relatively diverse communities of productive, highly colored acid lakes, with 8 species, and often with very large populations (> 200 · 1–1) dominated by K. bostoniensis and K. taurocephala; 3) Depauperate (< 4 species) communities of clear water acid lakes with generally low density populations dominated by K. taurocephala (> 90 % of rotifers in each sample); and 4) Extremely depauperate (2–3 species) acid lake communities associated with small lakes with high flushing rates dominated by C. unicornis.  相似文献

The vertical distribution of planktonic rotifers has been analysed in relation to season in several meromictic lakes; a coastal lagoon with sea-water intrusion and three dissolution lakes from two karstic systems. Two species, Filinia hofmanni and a form of Anuraeopsis fissa have been found to be more or less restricted to the chemocline or adjacent strata any time they occurred. Many species common in the upper water layers developed large populations near or in the chemocline and more strikingly in summer. Some species had two vertical maxima (one in the surface or the thermocline and another near the chemocline), while others successively shifted their maxima between the upper layers and the chemocline. It is hypothetized that these rotifers are either very versatile or are differentiated as ecotypes, one of them adapted to the chemocline environment. This distribution in a peculiar fluctuating, anoxic, H2S-rich environment poses questions about the biology of those rotifers which there develop extraordinary populations.  相似文献

通过2012年4次对珠江三角洲河网浮游动物的生态调查,研究该水域浮游轮虫的群落结构,包括种类组成、优势种、生物量及多样性等的时空分布,探讨了浮游轮虫群落结构与环境因子的相关关系,并阐析了浮游轮虫的聚群结构.结果表明: 共检出53种浮游轮虫.优势种类的季节演替及空间变化明显,针簇多肢轮虫占有较大优势.从季节变化来看,枯水期密度及生物量均大于丰水期,丰水期的生物多样性指数和均匀度要高于枯水期,浮游轮虫生物量和多样性的季节间差异显著;从空间分布来看,平均密度及平均生物量均呈现自西南向东北升高的趋势,最大密度及生物量均出现在市桥,而生物多样性指数和均匀度指数的空间变化趋势则相反,最高值均出现在青岐,浮游轮虫密度在各调查站位间差异显著,生物量及多样性在各调查站位间的差异不显著.浮游轮虫的密度与生物量、生物多样性指数与均匀度指数呈显著正相关,多样性与生物量呈显著负相关,生物多样性指数和均匀度指数随着生物量的增加显著降低.在不同季节,浮游轮虫密度与水温、pH、溶解氧、叶绿素a含量及总磷、总氮等环境因子密切相关.根据浮游轮虫密度对调查站位进行聚群分析得出5种聚群结构,说明相应调查站位的水质状况有显著差异.  相似文献
