Summary The effect of pretreatment of seeds of Maize type Ganga 3 and 41 with extract of P. foveolarum has been studied. The observations show an alround beneficial effect on the growth and development of the seedlings.  相似文献

The compatibility of the nematode-bacteria complex of Steinernema carpocapsae, Steinernema abbasi, and Heterorhabditis bacteriophora with neem plant extracts (seeds and leaves) to control diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (L.) on Chinese cabbage plants was investigated under laboratory conditions. The initial treatment of Chinese plant leaves with neem plant extracts resulted in more susceptibility of P. xylostella to neem seeds extract than neem leaves extract. The combination studies resulted in a higher synergistic effect of nematode-bacteria complex of H. bacteriophora, S. abbasi and S. carpocapsae with neem seeds extract compared with that of S. abbasi with neem leaves extract. In contrast, the combination of nematode-bacteria complex of S. carpocapsae and H. bacteriophora with neem leaves extract gave an antagonistic effect. On the other hand, the time-mortality response was more reduced with neem seeds extract than with neem leaves extract, besides it was a concentration dependant factor. We conclude from these investigations that the combination of entomopathogenic nematodes with neem plant extracts could be of success in controlling P. xylostella on Chinese cabbage plants in the field.  相似文献

为了解灌丛凋落叶在灌草群落结构维持中可能存在的潜在化感作用,以东祁连山3种优势灌木和灌下优势草种垂穗披碱草(Elymus nutans)为供试材料,分析了不同浓度(0.01 g/L、0.025 g/L、0.05 g/L、0.075 g/L、0.1 g/L)的金露梅(Potentilla fruticosa)、川滇柳(Salix rehderiana)、头花杜鹃(Rhododendron capitatum)及灌间草本的凋落叶水浸提液,对垂穗披碱草种子萌发、幼苗形态和生理指标的影响。结果表明:(1)垂穗披碱草种子发芽率与发芽势在金露梅与川滇柳凋落叶浸提液处理下呈“低促高抑”的浓度效应,在灌间草本凋落叶浸提液处理时表现为先升后降,而头花杜鹃凋落叶浸提液处理时均下降,并在浓度超过0.075 g/L时种子不发芽。(2)灌丛凋落叶浸提液对垂穗披碱草幼苗根长与干重均表现出抑制作用,且随浓度增大而增强;金露梅、川滇柳与灌间草本凋落叶浸提液对垂穗披碱草幼苗苗高表现出“低促高抑”的浓度效应;而头花杜鹃凋落叶浸提液处理对垂穗披碱草幼苗鲜重与苗高均呈抑制作用。(3)垂穗披碱草幼苗CAT、SOD活性随着浸提液...  相似文献

We investigated host-plant utilisation by the candidate biocontrol agent Paradibolia coerulea (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) on the target plant Spathodea campanulata Beauv. (Bignoniaceae) and a closely related non-target plant, Kigelia africana (Lam.) Benth. (Bignoniaceae). Paired-choice and sequential no-choice experiments were performed and coupled with olfactory discrimination experiments to test the insects’ responses to volatiles from both plant species as well as to cues from conspecific beetles. Although K. africana was utilised by P. coerulea, S. campanulata was preferred for both adult feeding and oviposition. Interestingly, whereas females were attracted to olfactory cues emitted by S. campanulata, males demonstrated no such olfactory discrimination. Females were also attracted to cues deposited by males, and males were deterred by cues from other males, but neither sex responded to female olfactory cues. Very few eggs were recorded on K. africana and none of the larvae that hatched on K. africana survived the first instar. Both S. campanulata and K. africana are suitable for adult feeding, but persistent utilisation of K. africana in the field is unlikely because larval development is only possible on S. campanulata and because the adult females are strongly attracted to volatiles emitted by the target plant. Nevertheless, if P. coerulea is released as a biocontrol agent, spill-over adult feeding could potentially occur on K. africana growing sympatrically with S. campanulata. Because P. coerulea cannot complete its development on K. africana, non-target damage will only occur where the target plant is present, with an intensity dependent on densities of adult beetles locally.  相似文献

The inhibitory effects of an extract of the blackcurrant (Ribes nigrum L.) against pathogens associated with oral, nasopharyngeal and upper respiratory infectious diseases; namely respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), influenza virus A and B (IFV‐A and IFV‐B), adenovirus (AdV), herpes simplex virus type 1, Haemophilus influenzae type B, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Streptococcus mutans, were investigated. Less than 1% concentration of extract of blackcurrant inhibited replication of RSV, IFV‐A and ‐B and HSV‐1 by over 50% and a 10% extract inhibited adsorption of these viruses onto the cell surface by over 95%. The effects on AdV were much less pronounced; the half minimal inhibitory concentration of AdV replication was 2.54 ± 0.26, and a 10% concentration of the extract inhibited AdV adsorption on the cell surface by 72.9 ± 3.4%. The antibacterial activities of the blackcurrant were evaluated based on its efficacy as a disinfectant. A 10% extract disinfected 99.8% of H. Influenzae type B and 78.9% of S. pneumoniae in 10 min, but had no demonstrable effect against S. mutans. The blackcurrant extract still showed antiviral and antibacterial activities after the pH had been made neutral with sodium hydroxide, suggesting that these activities are not the result of acidic reactions or of components precipitated at a neutral pH. These findings demonstrate the potential of blackcurrant extract as a functional food for oral care.  相似文献

Crude steam distillate from Ocimum gratissimum sprayed onto infection courts on detached cocoa pods moments after inoculation with Phytophthora palmivora completely inhibited the pathogen and blackpod lesion development on 75% of the infection courts. Disease suppression obtained with the extract was comparable to that obtained with a 2% Kocide 101 suspension. In the field, the O. gratissimum extract also suppressed lesion development although to a significantly lower (P = 0.05) extent in comparison with Kocide 101. Blackpod lesion expansion rates of 3.80, 3.56, 2.71 and 0.78 cm/day, respectively, were associated with pods treated in the field with C. citratus extract, tap water, O. gratissimum extract and 2% Kocide 101. The extract from Cymbopogon citratus was also ineffective on detached pods. Sporangia of P. palmivora from sporu-lating blackpod lesions on both detached and non-detached pods lost their infectivity within 1 h of treatment with the O. gratissimum extract. This effect was superior to that obtained with Kocide 101. Fungitoxicity of the extract on pods, however, was lost within 3 h of application. Thus, despite its in vivo effectiveness as an eradicant, the O. gratissimum extract, in its present form, has limited utility as a protectant fungicide.  相似文献

An in vitro experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of bark extract of different plant species viz., Azadirachta indica, Acacia nilotica, Emblica officinalis, Eucalyptus citriodora, Mangifera indica and Terminalia arjuna at varying concentration levels S, S/2, S/10 and S/100 on the hatching of Meloidogyne incognita. One hundred per cent inhibition was observed with Azadirachta indica under both un-decomposed and decomposed conditions. The effect was decreased with Acacia nilotica, Emblica officinalis, Eucalyptus citriodora, Mangifera indica and Terminalia arjuna, respectively. Effect of decomposed bark extract on hatching was more pronounced as compared to un-decomposed bark extract.  相似文献

Phosphorus and potassium (K) are major essential macronutrients for biological growth and development. Application of beneficial microorganisms to soil is one approach to enhance crop growth. In this study, the ability of five bacterial strains, including four strains of Pseudomonas sp. (S10-3, S14-3, S19-1, and S21-1) and one strain of Azotobacter sp. SP16, to release K from muscovite and biotite was investigated. Furthermore, phosphate solubilization by these strains was measured when an insoluble source of P [Ca3(PO4)2] was added to the medium. Among the bacterial strains, the highest average K release (73% higher than control) was observed with Pseudomonas sp. S14-3. The average amount of K released from biotite was 37% higher than that from muscovite in inoculated treatments. The enhanced release of mineral K might be attributed to the release of organic acids from the bacteria, a mechanism which plays a pivotal role in solubilizing phosphate from inorganic sources. The results confirmed the enhanced phosphate solubilization by the bacterial strains in the presence of muscovite. The highest P solubilizing activity (67% higher than control) was found in S21-1 and S14-3 strains. Concentrations of both K and P in the liquid phase were increased by increasing the time of experiment. X-ray diffraction analysis of muscovite specimens inoculated with S14-3 strain revealed a partial transformation of these minerals through the presence of 19.5 Å peak on the diffractogram of the magnesium-saturated sample. This may be due to the release of K from the interlayer space and subsequent filling with a number of bacterial metabolites. The findings of this research suggest K depletion from mica in the presence of bacteria, but further investigations are needed to clarify the mechanisms involved.  相似文献

Fungi in the genera Knoxdaviesia and Sporothrix dominate fungal communities within Protea flowerheads and seed cones (infructescences). Despite apparently similar ecologies, they show strong host recurrence and often occupy the same individual infructescence. Differences in host chemistry explain their host consistency, but the factors that allow co-occupancy of multiple species within individual infructescences are unknown. Sporothrix splendens and K. proteae often grow on different senescent tissue types within infructescences of their P. repens host, indicating that substrate-related differences aid their co-occupancy. Sporothrix phasma and K. capensis grow on the same tissues of P. neriifolia suggesting neutral competitive abilities. Here we test the hypothesis that differences in host-tissues dictate competitive abilities of these fungi and explain their co-occupancy of this spatially restricted niche. Media were prepared from infructescence bases, bracts, seeds, or pollen presenters of P. neriifolia and P. repens. As expected, K. capensis was unable to grow on seeds whilst S. phasma could. As hypothesised, K. capensis and S. phasma had equal competitive abilities on pollen presenters, appearing to explain their co-occupancy of this resource. Growth of K. proteae was significantly enhanced on pollen presenters while that of S. splendens was the same as the control. Knoxdavesia proteae grew significantly faster than S. splendens on all tissue types. Despite this, S. splendens was a superior competitor on all tissue types. For K. proteae to co-occupy infructescences with S. splendens for extended periods, it likely needs to colonize pollen presenters before the arrival of S. splendens.

为了解乡土植物白刺花对紫茎泽兰化感作用的耐受程度及抵御机理,以2—3年生紫茎泽兰叶片为供体材料,用不同浓度的紫茎泽兰叶片浸提液处理白刺花种子及幼苗。结果表明:紫茎泽兰叶片浸提液对白刺花的影响为低浓度促进,高浓度抑制。当浓度为0.5%时促进效应最强,当浓度大于2.0%时抑制效应明显增加。白刺花种子萌发速率比萌发率对紫茎泽兰化感作用反应敏感,胚轴比胚根敏感,随着幼苗的生长,其抵御紫茎泽兰化感作用的能力逐渐增强,丙二醛的含量与植株生长响应规律相对应,并且经紫茎泽兰浸提液处理能极大的增加白刺花幼苗菌根率,缩短菌根形成的时间。  相似文献

Phylogenetic analyses of the rbcL (chloroplast Rubisco large subunit) gene from 23 newly sequenced species of Porphyra, primarily from the north‐east Pacific, one Bangia and previously published sequences from both genera resolve relationships among most species of Porphyra and reveal five clades of species with Porphyra‐type morphologies among a number of Bangia lineages: (1) P. papenfussii V. Krishnam; (2) P. mumfordii S. C. Lindstrom et K. M. Cole and P. rediviva Stiller et Waaland together with a group of north Atlantic species, including the type of the genus, P. purpurea (Wahl‐enb.) C. Agardh; (3) P. cuneiformis (Setch. et Hus) V. Krishnam., P. occidentalis Setch. et Hus, P. schizo‐phylla Hollenb., and P. variegata (Kjellm.) Kjellm. and their Atlantic sibling species, all distromatic; (4) P. aestivalis sp. nov. and its north Atlantic sibling, P. birdiae C. D. Neefus et A. C. Mathieson; and (5) a speciose clade containing both Pacific and Atlantic representatives. Close relationships are confirmed between sibling species previously identified by iso‐zymes, morphology and chromosomal features. The morphologically similar dioecious P. pseudolanceolata V. Krishnam., P. conwayae (S. C. Lindstrom et K. M. Cole) stat. nov., and P. lanceolata (Setch. et Hus) G. M. Smith occur in a strongly supported subclade in clade 5 together with the monoecious P. fallax S. C. Lindstrom et K. M. Cole. Results presented here highlight the need for intensive taxon sampling and for examination of different parts of the genome to understand more fully relationships among species and higher level taxa in the Bangiales.  相似文献

Sheath rot disease (ShR) caused by Sarocladium oryzae (S. oryzae) infection is an emerging disease that causes severe yield loss by restricting the translocation of non‐structural carbohydrates (NSC). Potassium (K) nutrition plays a critical role in disease resistance and the exportation of NSC. However, the physiological mechanisms of K with respect to ShR have not been thoroughly elucidated to date. The objectives of this study were to reveal the mechanisms by which K increases ShR resistance by regulating NSC translocation of rice, therefore, a field experiment combined with an inoculation experiment was conducted. We demonstrate that ShR disease incidence and disease index decreased dramatically with an increasing K application. K deficiency sharply induced the accumulation of NSC in the flag leaf (FL) and flag leaf sheath (FLS) under S. oryzae infection condition, which reduced the contribution of transferred NSC to final yield. A permutational multivariate analysis showed that K deficiency had a greater (49.0%, P < 0.001) effect on the NSC content variation in FL than that of S. oryzae infection (15.0%, P < 0.001). S. oryzae infection dramatically increased the difference in apparent transferred mass of NSC and cell membrane injury of diseased organs between K‐deficient and K‐sufficient rice. Finally, we demonstrate that cell membrane injury was a limiting factor imposed by K deficiency, which restricts the export of NSC from source organs. This work highlights the importance of K in improving ShR resistance by regulating NSC translocation (particularly the stem NSC).  相似文献

Conclusions The effect of growth hormones obtained from three species of Phormidium (P. foveolarum, P. corium and P. autumnale) has beenstudied on the germination of the paddy seeds. The growth hormonesof P. foveolarum which is common in the paddy fields in natureaccelerates germination and promotes the growth of the seedlings. The beneficial effect however is restricted to low concen _ration ofthe hormone and soaking for a short duration only. Prolongedsoaking in water extract and soaking in ether extract exercises aninjurious effect shown by reduction in percentage germination ofseeds. Deadwood is an important habitat for bryophytes in boreal and subalpine forests. The type of decay in wood (white, brown, and soft rot) caused by fungal colonizers has been revealed to affect bryophyte communities. However, little is known about the effects of decay type on the growth of bryophytes. We tested the effect of wood decay type on gametophyte growth for two common bryophyte species, Scapania bolanderi Austin and Pleurozium schreberi (Brid.) Mitt., which dominate the logs in subalpine coniferous forest on Mt. Ontake, in central Honshu, Japan. We used pot culture experiments in an open-sky nursery field. After eight months of cultivation, the growth of S. bolanderi was larger on brown rot wood than white rot wood, but the growth of P. schreberi was not. Mixed cultures of the two species also showed greater growth on brown rot wood. However, growth of S. bolanderi was significantly smaller than P. schreberi in mixed culture. These results suggest that brown rot wood enhances growth of S. bolanderi, but growth may be reduced under competition from P. schreberi. The results are in agreement with the field observation that brown rot wood has a positive association with S. bolanderi coverage on deadwood.  相似文献

The inhibitory effects of seven microalgae, Nostoc flagelliforme, Spirulina platensis, Porphyridium purpureum, Rhodosorus marinus,Chlorella pyrenoidosa, Dunaliella salina and Pleurochrysiscarterae on the activation of hyaluronidase were evaluated. Theinhibitory effect of the ethanol-insoluble fraction of each water extract frommicroalgae was stronger than that of the ethanol-soluble fraction. The50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) of the ethanol-insolublefraction of S. platensis, P. purpureum, R. marinus, C.pyrenoidosa, D. salina and P. carterae was 0.15, 0.18, 0.26,0.94, 0.15 and 0.41 mg mL-1, respectively. The IC50 ofN .flagelliforme was not calculated, because there was no detectableinhibitory effect of this alga. The IC50 of disodium cromoglycate(DSCG) used as the anti-allergic medicine was 0.14 mg mL-1. The IC50 of S. platensis, P. purpureum and D. salinawere almost the same as that of DSCG. This suggests that theethanol-insoluble fraction of S. platensis, P. purpureum and D. salina might be an anti-allergic substance. The ethanol-insoluble fractionof S. platensis and D. salina was ultrafiltered through a membranehaving a molecular exclusion limit of 20 kDa. The IC50 of theresidue was stronger than that of the filtrate. These results suggest that theanti-allergic substance(s) of these microalgae may be polysaccharides.  相似文献

The intracellular elemental concentrations of Na, K, P, S, Cl and Mg in the type 1 cells of Malpighian tubules of Locusta migratoria L. have been measured using electron probe X-ray microanalysis. The effects of in vitro stimulation with 1 mM cAMP and corpora cardiaca extract (CC-extract) on the elemental concentrations have been quantified. The distribution of elements, particularly Na, K and Cl is not homogeneous in control cells, and concentration gradients exist within the cytoplasm. Dibutyryl-cAMP (DB-cAMP) caused a decrease in [K]i without disrupting the gradient which increased from the basal to the apical surface, the apical [Na]i was increased as was the [Cl]i. In contrast, in vitro application of CC-extract did not cause changes to the intracellular elemental composition as compared with control cells These data are consistent with the interpretation that exogenous cAMP only partially activated the full stimulatory response of Malpighian tubule cells observed with CC-extract. The changes observed in the density and elemental composition of the `dark bodies' in response to DB-cAMP and CC-extract stimulation suggest that these structures have a role in the ionic economy of Malpighian tubule cells. The active efflux system contributing to the solvent tolerance of Pseudomonas putida S12 was characterized physiologically. The mutant P. putida JK1, which lacks the active efflux system, was compared with the wild-type organism. None of 20 known substrates of common multi-drug-resistant pumps had a stronger growth-inhibiting effect on the mutant than on the wild type. The amount of [14C]toluene accumulating in P. putida S12 increased in the presence of the solvent xylene and in the presence of uncouplers. The effect of uncouplers confirms the proton dependency of the efflux system in P. putida S12. Other compounds, potential substrates for the solvent pump, did not affect the accumulation of [14C]toluene. These results show that the efflux system in P. putida S12 is specific for organic solvents and does not export antibiotics or other known substrates of multi-drug-resistant pumps. Partially purified penicillin acylases (EC 3.5.1.11) were prepared from Pseudomonas melanogenum KY 3987 and Kluyvera citrophila KY 3641 capable of synthesizing d(–)-α-amino-benzylpenicillin (APc) from 6-aminopenicillanic acid (6-APA) and phenylglycine methyl ester. As the cell-free extract of P. melanogenum contained high levels of penicillinase (EC 3.5.2.6), the acylase was separated completely from the penicillinase by use of Sephadex column chromatography or electrofocusing. The most salient property of the P. melanogenum penicillin acylase was its substrate specificity to penicillin substrates: it could form 6-APA only from APc but not from penicillin G, penicillin V and p-aminobenzylpenicillin, whereas the K. citrophila acylase acted on all of these penicillins. The P. melanogenum enzyme is hence considered a novel type of penicillin acylase.  相似文献

A bacterium identified as Pseudomonas fluorescence was isolated from Taxus baccata rhizosphere. Ethyl acetate extract from its culture filtrate yielded an active antimicrobial compound that was purified by TLC. The active metabolites were resolved by column chromatography on silica gel (60–120 mesh). The compound was further characterized on the basis of spectral data (UV, IR and 1HNMR), which indicated the presence of an aromatic ring and phenolic functionality. The compound showed significant antimicrobial activity against two-gram positive bacteria (B. subtilis and S. aureus), four-gram negative bacteria (E. coli, K. pneumoniae, S. flexneri and P. aeruginosa), and one pathogenic fungus (Candida albicans). The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the compound ranged between 75μg to 250 μg/ml.  相似文献

Septoria brown spot and Cercospora leaf blight are late season diseases caused by Septoria glycines and Cercospora kikuchii, respectively. New antifungals are required against these diseases because the chemical controls currently used have detrimental impacts on wildlife and human health. In this work, 48 extracts originated from the leaves, bark, sapwood or heartwood of four forestry species were assayed by the disc diffusion method against S. glycines and C. kikuchii. Although 18 extracts showed antifungal activity, only 5 were active on both fungal species. The leaf methanolic extract of Blepharocalyx salicifolius showed the lowest minimum inhibitory dose (MID) and the highest diameter of growth inhibition (DI) on both fungal species (MID = 200 μg, DI = 14.2 mm, C. kikuchii; MID = 400 μg, DI = 12.2 mm, S. glycines). Pinocembrin was identified as the main antifungal constituent of the methanolic extract. Both the methanolic leaf extract of B. salicifolius and pinocembrin synergized in vitro the effect of the fungicide difenoconazole. Preventive applications of the extract and the mixture extract + difenoconazole (2.4 mg/mL + 0.006 mg/mL) strongly reduced disease severity generated by S. glycines and C. kikuchii 21 days after inoculation of the soybean plants. This effect was significantly stronger than that generated by difenoconazole. Our results suggest that the application of the methanolic extract of B. salicifolius, alone or in mixture with difenoconazole is a promising strategy to be incorporated in the chemical control of S. glycines and C. kikuchii.  相似文献
