The misapplication of the name Pternopetalum molle (Franch.) Hand.‐Mazz. has resulted in considerable taxonomic confusion in the genus, involving 11 names belonging to seven taxa (according to a recent treatment). A supplementary taxonomic revision of P. botrychioides (Dunn) Hand.‐Mazz., P. molle and P. vulgare (Dunn) Hand.‐Mazz. is presented, after a detailed examination of the morphological variation. Four new synonyms, P. longicaule var. humile R.H.Shan & F.T.Pu, P. molle var. dissectum R.H.Shan & F.T.Pu, P. radiatum (W.W.Smith) P.K.Mukherjee and P. trifoliatum R.H.Shan & F.T.Pu, are proposed. Pternopetalum delicatulum (H.Wolff) Hand.‐Mazz. should be reduced to P. botrychioides rather than P. radiatum. The previous taxonomic treatments of P. cuneifolium (H. Wolff) Hand.‐Mazz., P. cartilagineum C.Y.Wu ex R.H.Shan & F.T.Pu and P. molle var. crenulatum R.H.Shan & F.T.Pu are reinstated. A key and distribution maps are provided for the accepted species. © 2008 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2008, 158 , 274–295.

The genus Annesorhiza is revised and twelve species are recognized, of which two are newly described: A. altiscapa, A. burttii, A. flbrosa, A. flagellifolia, A. grandiflora, A. lateriflora, A. latifolia, A. macrocarpa, A. nuda, A. schlechteri, A. thunbergii and A. wilmsii. A. marlothii is reduced to synonymy under A. lateriflora , a species hitherto poorly known as Peucedanum lateriflorum. A. thunbergii is only known from the type specimen. A. elata, A. hirsuta and A. villosa are sunk under A. grandiflora. A. fúicaulis has recently been excluded from Annesorhiza on the basis of fruit structure. A key to the species is provided, an update on the nomenclature, typification of names and distribution maps are provided for all the species.

The taxonomy of the catfish genus Silurichthys is revised, and eight species are now recognized. A neotype is designated for S. hasseltii . Two new species are described: S. gibbiceps from the Barito basin in southern Borneo and S. marmoratus from north-western Borneo. Silurichthys leucopodus Fowler, 1939, is considered a subjective junior synonym of S. schneideri Volz, 1904. The extent of the gape and the relative positions of the dorsal and pelvic fins show considerable infraspecific variation and are of little taxonomic value. The number of anal-fin rays is useful if used with other meristic data such as the number of vertebrae. Colour varies infraspecifically as individuals become paler and less mottled at night, but can still be used as a secondary character in separating some species. The head and caudal fin shapes are useful discriminating characters. Mature males are smaller than females and have prominent posterior serrae on the pectoral spine and articulated segments of the first pectoral-fin element. The shape and number of these serrae are also diagnostic for some species.

The four related genera: Ainsworthia Boiss., Tordylium L., Synelcosciadium Boiss. and Mandenovia Alava are revised. Data are presented from detailed gross morphology, mericarp surface features and anatomy, and palynology.
The results show: (1) Ainsmorthia and Synelcosciadium are congeneric with the genus Tordylium, and that Mandenovia is a good monotypic genus; (2) Tordylium persicum is synonymous with 7. cappadocicum and 7. aegaeum with 7. pestalozzae; (3) the genus Tordylium is best divided into subgenus Tordylium (including Synelcosciadium) and subgenus Ainsworthia (Boiss.) Drude. The latter is divided into section Condylocarpus (Hoffm.) DC, section Hasselquistia (L.) Boiss. and section Univittata Drude.
A new species of Tordylium is described, and two new combinations made. A taxonomic treatment of the genus 'Tordylium', together with a key to the species, is given.

The taxonomy of the South-east Asian catfish genus Acrochordonichthys (Akysidae) is revised. The shapes of the snout, humeral process and adipose fins are diagnostic species characters. Only four out of 11 species and one sub-species described prior to this study are considered valid, namely A. rugosus (Bleeker, 1847), A. ischnosoma Bleeker, 1858, A. chamaeleon (Vaillant, 1902), and A. pachyderma Vaillant, 1902. An additional five new species ( A. guttatus, A. septentrionalis, A. mahakamensis, A. strigosus and A. falcifer ) are described.

Representatives of the fish genus Carasobarbus Karaman, 1971 (Actinopterygii: Cyprinidae) from the Middle East and North Africa were previously placed in 14 different genus-group taxa (Barbellion, Barbus, Barynotus, Capoeta, Carasobarbus, Cyclocheilichthys, Kosswigobarbus, Labeobarbus, Luciobarbus, Pseudotor, Puntius, Systomus, Tor and Varicorhinus). The generic assignment of several species changed frequently, necessitating a re-evaluation of their taxonomic status. In this study, the genus Carasobarbus is revised based on comparative morphological examinations of about 1300 preserved specimens from collections of several museums and freshly collected material. The species Carasobarbus apoensis, Carasobarbus canis, Carasobarbus chantrei, Carasobarbus exulatus, Carasobarbus fritschii, Carasobarbus harterti, Carasobarbus kosswigi, Carasobarbus luteus and Carasobarbus sublimus form a monophyletic group that shares the following combination of characters: medium-sized barbels with a smooth last unbranched dorsal-fin ray, nine or 10 branched dorsal-fin rays and six branched anal fin-rays; scales large, shield-shaped, with many parallel radii; the lateral line containing 25 to 39 scales; the pharyngeal teeth hooked, 2.3.5-5.3.2 or 2.3.4-4.3.2; one or two pairs of barbels. The species are described in detail, their taxonomic status is re-evaluated and an identification key is provided. A lectotype of Systomus luteus Heckel, 1843 is designated. Carasobarbus Karaman, 1971, Kosswigobarbus Karaman, 1971, and Pseudotor Karaman, 1971 are subjective synonyms, and acting as First Reviser we gave precedence to the name Carasobarbus.

和东亚囊瓣(P.tanakae(Franchet&Sav.)Hand.-Mazz.)

The Bornean species of Callicarpa (Lamiaceae) are revised. Twenty three species are recognized: of these, four are described as new ( C. argentii , C. coriacea , C. subaequalis and C. teneriflora ) and two are raised to species level from variety ( C. endertii and C. hispida ). All 23 species described are assessed for World Conservation Union (IUCN) conservation status. Distribution maps and an identification key are provided. The historic confusion between the genera Geunsia and Callicarpa is discussed. Geunsia is included as a synonym of Callicarpa based on the examination of morphological characters and molecular data. Geunsia is suggested to be nested within Callicarpa based on phylogenetic analyses of nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (nrITS), partial matK and trnD‐T sequences of 30 taxa using maximum parsimony. © 2009 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2009, 159 , 416–455.

Abstract

In this study, using light and scanning microscopes, the morphobiometric characters of pollen grains of Bupleurum fruticosum L., B. fontanesii Guss. ex Caruel, B. gerardi All., B. lancifolium Hornem., B. semicompositum L., B. tenuissimum L. have been analysed. The elaboration of qualitative and quantitative palynological data has allowed us to formulate a key of identification which characterizes six morphotypes. Pollen grains of B. fruticosum (a perennial species) have been distinguished from the grains of the other annual species examined by us on the basis of several morphobiometric characters, a condition which has confirmed the systematic arrangements suggested by several authors. The close palynological affinity between B. tenuissimum and B. semicompositum compared with B. gerardi has supported the placement of these three species in a distinct subsect. of the sect. Eubupleura Briq. or in a distinct subsect. of the sect. Isophyllum (Hoffm.) Dumort. Similarly, our palynological data on B. fontanesii have confirmed the systematic arrangement. However, these data differ from those reported by different authors who placed the three species in the sect. Aristata Godron subsect. Juncea Briq.
