This study evaluates the relative contributions of leaves and roots to the belowground allelopathic effects of Mikania micrantha. The hypothesis that leaves contribute more to the allelopathic effect than roots was experimentally tested. We assessed the allelopathic effects of aqueous extracts from Mikania leaves and roots on the seed germination and seedling growth of two co-occurring woody plants in southern China, Lagerstroemia indica L. and Robinia pseudoacacia L. The results showed that the aqueous extracts from Mikania leaves and roots had inhibitory effects on the woody species. Allelopathic activity depended on the concentration of the extracts, target species, and the extract sources (i.e., leaves vs. roots of Mikania). Leaf extract showed stronger allelopathic effects than root extract on germination percentage, initial germination time, speed of germination, and shoot height; while root extract had greater allelopathic effects on roots than leaf extract. The latter phenomenon might greatly promote the invasion success of Mikania due to more direct and effective allelopathy of root. Our results suggest that allelopathy of root extract on belowground biomass might be greater than that of leaf extract for some species in contrast allelopathy of leaf extract on belowground biomass might also be greater than that of root extract for other species, at least for their effects on root growth of the target species.  相似文献

毛竹浸提液对苦槠幼苗生长的化感效应   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
为探讨毛竹(Phyllostachys edulis)扩张过程中潜在的化感作用,选择苦槠(Castanopsis sclerophylla(Lindl)Schott)为研究对象。采用水浸提的方法,用毛竹茎叶、枯落物和土壤3部分浸提液浇灌苦槠幼苗,以蒸馏水处理作为对照,对比分析质量浓度分别为0.1、0.05、0.02 g/mL的3个浓度梯度浸提液处理下苦槠幼苗生长指标及各项光合生理指标的差异。结果表明,毛竹浸提液对苦槠幼苗苗高、地径和叶绿素相对含量的影响大体上呈现高浓度抑制低浓度促进的双重浓度效应。不同来源毛竹浸提液的化感效应不尽相同,土壤浸提液对苦槠幼苗生长和光合生理均呈现抑制作用,而茎叶、枯落物浸提液低浓度时为促进作用。毛竹潜在的化感作用,在其扩张过程中可能会干扰森林主要树种更新,从而对森林群落产生威胁。  相似文献

This study used hydroponics cultivation to investigate the manganese (Mn) accumulation and tolerance abilities of six species—Phytolacca americana L., Poa annua L., Comnyza canadensis L., Cynodon dactylon L., Polygonum hydropiper L., and Polygonum perfoliatum L. We found that P. perfoliatum, P. hydropiper, and P. americana were Mn-hyperaccumulators and that P. perforliatum have superior Mn accumulation and toleration abilities over the other five species. The Mn concentration within the shoots of P. perfoliatum reached as high as 18,342.3 mg kg?1. The root growth of P. perfoliatum was promoted under low-Mn treatments, but the growths of the five other species were inhibited by the Mn treatments and the damage intensified as Mn concentration increased. The biomass of P. perfoliatum was minimally affected by the Mn treatments. The chlorophyll (CHL), soluble protein (SP), and malondialdehyde (MDA) contents of P. perfoliatum were not adversely affected, but these parameters of the other five species showed significant (P?<?0.05) deterioration from the control. By comparison among the six species, the hyperaccumulator P. perfoliatum was the most suitable species for bioremediation of Mn-polluted environments. Allelochemicals released by invasive plants contribute to the successful invasion of new habitats. However, the relationship between allelopathic effects and competitive ability of invasive plants has not been characterized. We quantified the neighbor effects of Wedelia trilobata (family: Asteraceae) and the allelopathic effects of its leaf litter on two Asteraceae competitor species (invasive Eupatorium catarium and non-invasive Lactuca sativa) and on its own ramet growth. The seed germination rate and seedling biomass of the two competitor species decreased following treatment with W. trilobata leaf extracts. When co-cultured with W. trilobata, the total biomass of the two competitor species significantly decreased regardless of whether leaf extracts were present. Under low plant density co-culture conditions, W. trilobata leaf extracts enhanced the inhibitory effects on E. catarium. In contrast, W. trilobata leaf extracts promoted the growth of W. trilobata adventitious roots, resulting in increased competitive ability. Therefore, W. trilobata growth was promoted by its own allelochemicals in leaf extracts, whereas the growth of the invasive and non-invasive competitors was inhibited by the same chemicals. These responses facilitated the invasion by W. trilobata. Our study demonstrates that leaf litter of invasive plants may inhibit the growth of neighboring species to enhance the competitive ability of the invasive plants during the early stages of invasion.  相似文献

研究了侧柏(Platycladus orientalis)根、枝、叶、果实不同浓度水提取物及枝叶挥发油对油松种子萌发和幼苗生长的他感效应。结果表明:侧柏各器官及挥发油都含有化感物质,均对油松种子萌发及幼苗生长表现出“高抑低促”效应,而且低浓度时的促进作用明显强于高浓度时的抑制作用。与对照相比,在浓度为2 mg·mL-1时,侧柏根水提取物对油松幼苗根长和鲜重的促进能力最强,其根长和鲜重分别比对照提高了79.78%和376.60%;侧柏叶水提取物对油松幼苗苗高促进能力最强,比对照提高了102.41%;侧柏枝水提取物对油松种子发芽的促进能力最强,发芽率比对照提高了65.63%。而在浓度为30 mg·mL-1时,除了侧柏根和枝水提取物对油松种子萌发(87.50%)和鲜重(85.11%)表现出明显的抑制作用外,其它提取物对油松幼苗根长和苗高生长的抑制作用均不明显。侧柏枝叶挥发油对油松种子萌发,幼苗生长均表现为促进作用,特别对油松种子萌发具有显著的促进作用,其促进率达70.37%。说明侧柏和油松混交,可能有利于油松树木生长及生产力的提高。  相似文献

Germination bioassay was carried out to test the biological activity of Achillea santolina L. (ASAE), Artemisia monosperma Del. (AMAE), Pituranthus tortuosus L. (PTAE) and Thymus capitatus L. (TCAE) aqueous extracts (collected from Taif region, KSA) on germination percentage (GP), plumule (PL) and radicle (RL) lengths (mm) besides seedling dry weight (SDW) (mg/seedlings) of Medicago polymorpha L. The inhibitory effect of P. tortuosus was insignificant compared to the other three donor species which attained the strongest allelopathic potential in the following order: A. santolina > A. monosperma > T. capitatus. Growth experiment using crude powder of the four donor species was conducted to examine their effects on leaf area index (LAI), photosynthetic pigments, total available carbohydrates (TAC) and total protein (TP). It is worth mentioning that each of the four donor species crude powders mixed with clay loam soil appeared to have a great inhibitory allelopathic effect on LAI, total photosynthetic pigment and chlorophyll a (Chl a) while carotenoids exhibited a slight increase with the application of the four donor species crude powders. TAC and TP were significantly decreased with increasing the crude powder concentrations while a slight decrease was recorded for carbon/nitrogen (C/N) ratio. There is possibility of using these allelochemicals directly or as structural leads for the discovery and development of environmentally friendly herbicides to control weeds. The study recommended that these species must be phytochemically examined in future for their allelochemicals in order to provide information on the possibilities of using one or more of these species as bioherbicides.  相似文献

Recent work suggests that germination inhibition via allelopathy may be an important component of some species’ invasion ecology. We conducted four germination assays to test the inhibitory potential of Amur honeysuckle (Lonicera maackii), a problematic invasive shrub. The subject species in the first assay, Festuca arundinacea, exhibited a significant delay in germination when treated with extract from ground honeysuckle foliage. In the second assay, two concentrations of L. maackii extract were created by soaking foliage. F. arundinacea germination was not significantly influenced by the treatments while germination in Impatiens wallerana was substantially decreased. The third assay compared the impact of foliar extract from honeysuckle, with the native shrubs Lindera benzoin and Asimina triloba using F. arundinaceae, I. wallerana, Coreopsis lanceolata and Poa pratensis as subject species. In this assay, I. wallerana was strongly inhibited by L. maackii foliage; however, none of the other species were significantly influenced by the treatments. In the fourth assay, fruit extracts from L. maackii and L. benzoin were applied to the same four subject species. L. maackii fruit extract had an inhibitory influence on seed germination of all subject species, and inhibition from L. benzoin was also noted. Across all assays, there was a mixed reaction to extract from L. maackii and co-occurring native species that was species-specific and dependent upon the extract source. Our findings provide support for the idea that L. maackii has allelopathic activity, but further work is needed to (i) understand how broad the impact may be across the wide variety of species that are found in its invasion range and (ii) substantiate that the allelopathic effect has relevance in field environments.  相似文献

Many plants release allelopathic chemicals that can inhibit germination, growth, and/or survival in neighboring plants. These impacts appear magnified with the invasion of some non-native plants which may produce allelochemicals against which native fauna have not co-evolved resistance. Our objective was to examine the potential allelopathic impact of an invasive non-native shrub/tree on multiple plant species using field observation and experimental allelopathy studies. We surveyed and collected an invasive, non-native tree/shrub (Rhamnus cathartica) at Tifft Nature Preserve (a 107-ha urban natural area near Lake Erie in Buffalo, NY). We also surveyed understory plant communities in the urban forest to examine correlations between R. cathartica abundance and local plant community abundance and richness. We then used experimental mesocosms to test if patterns observed in the field could be explained by adding increased dosages of R. cathartica to soils containing five plant species, including native and non-native woody and herbaceous species. In the highly invaded urban forest, we found that herbaceous cover, shrubs and woody seedlings negatively covaried with R. cathartica basal area and seedlings density. In the mesocosm experiments, R. cathartica resulted in significant decreases in plant community species richness, abundance, and shifted biomass allocation from roots. Our results provide evidence that R. cathartica is highly allelopathic in its invaded range, that R. cathartica roots have an allelopathic effect and that some plant species appear immune. We suggest that these effects may explain the plant’s ability to form dense monocultures and resist competitors, as well as shift community composition with species-specific impacts.  相似文献

以生长在我国荒漠和半荒漠地区的特有植物沙蒿为供体植物,沙米、虫实、草木樨状黄芪、狗尾草为受体植物,研究了沙蒿根、茎、叶、种子水浸提液对受体植物种子发芽、幼苗生长以及根对NH~+_4和K~+吸收的化感效应的差异,为沙区植被恢复中伴生杂草种类的选择提供理论依据。结果表明:沙蒿水浸提液对4种受体植物种子发芽和幼苗生长均具有显著的化感效应,沙米、虫实、草木樨状黄芪表现为抑制作用,狗尾草表现为促进作用。不同部位沙蒿浸提液的化感作用不同,根浸提液对沙米、虫实、狗尾草的化感效应最强,茎浸提液对草木樨状黄芪的抑制最强。不同植物种及植物的不同发育时期对化感作用的敏感性也不同,在4种受体植物中,沙米受抑制最强,其次为虫实、草木樨状黄芪,且随浸提液浓度增加而显著增强,而狗尾草具有一定的耐受力,表现为促进作用。沙蒿浸提液对受体植物根长的影响最强,其次是种子发芽、苗高和幼苗干质量。浸提液显著降低沙米、虫实、草木樨状黄芪根对NH~+_4和K~+的吸收,增加狗尾草根对NH~+_4和K~+的吸收。研究结果表明雨水淋溶是沙蒿向环境中释放化感物质的途径之一,化感作用在增强沙蒿生存竞争力,扩大种群过程中起着不容忽视的作用,可能是沙蒿单优势种群落形成的原因之一。  相似文献

Non-native invasive plant species influence plant community composition and competitively eradicate native species. However, there is doubt regarding how global invasive species increase and explosively interfere with native plants. Invasive plants always have strong allelopathic potential. In this study, allelopathic effects of switchgrass on redroot pigweed and crabgrass growth were investigated by field and laboratory experiments. Within a 0.4-m distance of switchgrass, density and shoot biomass of native species were significantly suppressed in the field, with 95.1% and 93.0% inhibition on density of redroot pigweed and crabgrass and with 99.0% and 97.7% inhibition on shoot biomass, respectively, during the third growing season. Significant inhibitory effects on shoot and root biomass were observed at the 5:5 (switchgrass–native species) proportion in glass bottles, by 41.57% and 51.21% for shoot and root biomass of redroot pigweed and by 33.42% and 56.95% for shoot and root biomass of crabgrass, respectively. Results of a glass bottle experiment showed that shoot and root biomass of redroot pigweed and crabgrass could be significantly inhibited by contact with switchgrass root. Results of a Petri dish experiment showed that aqueous extracts of switchgrass significantly inhibited germination process of both species at high concentrations, with 90.74% and 18.62% inhibition on germination rate and plumule length of redroot pigweed and with 63.59%, 16.38%, and 19.92% inhibition on germination rate, plumule, and radicle lengths of crabgrass, respectively, at the concentration of 0.1 g·mL?1. This report demonstrated that switchgrass had allelopathic effects on redroot pigweed and crabgrass growth.

Herbivory activates the synthesis of allelochemicals that can mediate plant-plant interactions. There is an inverse relationship between the activity of xylophages and the abundance of epiphytes on Ipomoea murucoides. Xylophagy may modify the branch chemical constitution, which also affects the liberation of allelochemicals with defense and allelopathic properties. We evaluated the bark chemical content and the effect of extracts from branches subjected to treatments of exclusion, mechanical damage and the presence/absence of epiphytes, on the seed germination of the epiphyte Tillandsia recurvata. Principal component analysis showed that branches without any treatment separate from branches subjected to treatments; damaged and excluded branches had similar chemical content but we found no evidence to relate intentional damage with allelopathy; however 1-hexadecanol, a defense volatile compound correlated positively with principal component (PC) 1. The chemical constitution of branches subject to exclusion plus damage or plus epiphytes was similar among them. PC2 indicated that palmitic acid (allelopathic compound) and squalene, a triterpene that attracts herbivore enemies, correlated positively with the inhibition of seed germination of T. recurvata. Inhibition of seed germination of T. recurvata was mainly correlated with the increment of palmitic acid and this compound reached higher concentrations in excluded branches treatments. Then, it is likely that the allelopathic response of I. murucoides would increase to the damage (shade, load) that may be caused by a high load of epiphytes than to damage caused by the xylophages.  相似文献

Allelopathic effects and plant associated systemic endophytic fungi are often thought to play a role in the invasion of exotic plant species. Here, we tested the inhibitory effects of the aqueous extracts of the hemiparasitic weed Pedicularis kansuensis on seed germination and seedling growth of endophyte-free (E−) and -infected (E+) grass species, Stipa purpurea and Elymus tangutorum. The weed extracts significantly inhibited both seed germination and seedling growth of the target grass species. Extracts from the inflorescences gave greater inhibition than those from the stems or roots, while the concentration of the extract had a direct effect on the extent of inhibition. The E+ target plants were less susceptible to the extracts than their E-counterparts. Our results suggest that the allelopathic potential of P. kansuensis will lead to increased frequencies of endophyte infected plants in grass populations.  相似文献

紫茎泽兰是著名的外来入侵植物,作为入侵的第一步,发芽及其幼苗生长应该与其强入侵能力有关.基于此,通过不同光照强度处理和不同打破休眠方法的双因素实验,旨在探讨紫茎泽兰种子是否具有需光萌发特性以及低温、水杨酸、聚乙二醇,硝酸钾等常规打破休眠方法和光照如何共同影响其萌发、幼苗生长等问题.结果表明:在全光照条件下,不同处理的紫茎泽兰种子的萌发率均大于63%,铝箔纸覆盖的遮光条件(0.23%光照)萌发率均大于60%,而在完全黑暗条件下,其萌发率较低(均小于30%),这表明紫茎泽兰种子具有需光萌发的特性.有别于以往对其它植物种子的报道,低温处理、水杨酸处理、聚乙二醇处理和硝酸钾处理不能代替光照打破种子休眠,显示紫茎泽兰种子可能处于一种强迫休眠状态(种子静态).全光照与水杨酸处理、PEG处理对幼苗生长具有交互影响:黑暗下水杨酸处理浓度与幼苗生物量成正相关(P<0.05),但全光照和加铝箔下不相关(P>0.05);全光照下PEG处理浓度与根长显著正相关(P<0.05),而加铝箔和黑暗下不相关(P>0.05).紫茎泽兰种子需光萌发特征及其幼苗生长特点是人为破坏表土壤、深层土壤种子库地表化导致快速入侵的基础.结果也为通过引入适宜树种造林来控制光照因子对紫茎泽兰进行生态控制提供了理论依据.  相似文献

以狗牙根当年生扦插苗为试验材料,根据库区河岸带水分特征设置4种水分处理方式:水分对照组(CK)、水淹与干旱交替组(FD)、土壤水分饱和组(LF)和全淹组(FL),4种密度方式:对照(1株/盆)、低密度(2株/盆)、中密度(4株/盆)及高密度(12株/盆),探究狗牙根生长及形态响应,并验证胁迫梯度假说。结果表明:(1)狗牙根各生物量随水分胁迫强度的增加显著下降(P0.001);密度处理和二者交互作用显著影响狗牙根叶干重、茎干重、根干重、地上生物量和总生物量(P0.001)。(2)水分处理显著影响狗牙根各形态指标(P0.001);密度和二者交互作用显著影响狗牙根分枝数、总茎长和节间长(P0.001)。(3)CK组和LF组狗牙根生物量相对邻体效应(RNE)均为负值,表明其种内关系为竞争关系。FL组各密度组生物量RNE值均为正值,其种内关系转化为促进关系。(4)中高密度组总茎长RNE值随水分胁迫增加而增大。研究表明:(1)狗牙根对不同的水分胁迫均表现出积极响应,可考虑将狗牙根用于库区河岸带植被重建。(2)随种植密度的增大,狗牙根生长及形态均表现出一定的负面效应。(3)本试验在一定程度上支持胁迫梯度假说,但尚需更多概念模型将其改进完善。  相似文献

The recent success of Aristida junciformis Trin. and Rupr. and Eragrostis curvula Schrad. Nees in dominating South African grasslands has posed agricultural and ecological threats. With the objective of examining if the current success of the species is related to allelopathy, the present study assessed the allelopathic potential of five common perennial grassland species (Poaceae). Aqueous extracts prepared by soaking separately 2, 10, 25 and 40 g of leaf and root material in 100 mL of distilled-water for 36 h were bioassayed using a biotest species i.e. Grand Rapids lettuce seeds (Lactuca sativa L. cv.). Species, dilution level and plant-part had a highly significant (P < 0.001) effect on germination percentage, as well as shoot and root elongation of the biotest species. At higher concentrations, the leaf extracts of all species showed significant inhibitory activities which declined with increases in dilution level. A. junciformis, E. curvula and Megathyrsus maximus (Jacq.) BK Simon and SWL Jacobs. demonstrated the highest degree of inhibition in germination percentage and subsequent seedling length; with complete inhibition recorded at dilution levels ≥25 % w/v. At high concentration levels, root extracts of all species, except Themeda triandra Forssk. exhibited significant inhibitory effects on germination; with Hyparrhenia hirta (L.) Staph being most inhibitory. Relatively speaking, E. curvula, A. junciformis and M. maximus showed the highest degree of inhibition. These findings suggest that these three species possess strong allelopathic potential. Such an allelopathic supremacy may contribute to their dominance in natural grasslands. Further studies, however, are still required to isolate responsible phytochemicals and to better understand if allelopathic advantage is the key factor contributing to population dynamics in the field.  相似文献

Symbiotic germination was analyzed in the myco-heterotrophic orchid Gastrodia elata. Seeds were placed on water agar medium containing a leaf-disc of Quercus accutissima that had been previously inoculated with one of six different Mycena species. Among the six fungi, KFRI1212 (HQ662845) and KFRI2121 (HQ662846) germinated 60.1 and 47.0 % seeds, respectively, while others germinated less than 3.5 %. Although KFRI1212 induced a significantly higher germination rate than KFRI2121, initiation of protocorm development was induced much faster by KFRI2121 than by KFRI1212. Molecular identification and phylogenetic analysis showed that the two fungi belonged to one clade that includes Mycena chlorophos, M. amicta and M. tenerrima, suggesting that seed germination of G. elata depends on a narrow taxonomic range of fungi. In conclusion, this study not only showed fungal preference of G. elata for seed germination but also confirmed molecular identities of mycorrhizal fungi for the first time, which will allow us to better understand the process of symbiotic events at the germination stage of G. elata.  相似文献

为了探究外来红树植物拉关木对乡土红树植物的化感作用,该研究观察了不同浓度(0.1、0.3、0.5g·mL~(-1))的拉关木根、叶水浸提液对乡土红树植物桐花树和正红树的胚轴(种子)萌发、幼苗生长及叶片抗氧化酶活性的影响。结果表明:(1)拉关木水浸提液对桐花树种子的成苗率、萌发指数和根长均存在抑制作用,其中对根长的抑制作用随水浸提液浓度的提高而增强。(2)根水浸提液对桐花树幼苗的根长、苗高、生物量等生长指标的影响总体上均表现为低浓度促进,高浓度抑制。(3)拉关木水浸提液对正红树胚轴的萌发率、萌发指数、生长指标均表现为促进作用,且根水浸提液0.1、0.3 g·mL~(-1)处理组的芽长以及根、叶水浸提液0.1、0.3 g·mL~(-1)处理组的生物量显著大于对照组;拉关木水浸提液对正红树幼苗的生物量也表现为促进作用。(4)抗性生理方面,随着拉关木水浸提液浓度的升高,桐花树和正红树幼苗SOD活性降低,正红树幼苗POD活性在根水浸提液0.3 g·mL~(-1)和叶水浸提液0.1 g·mL~(-1)处理组显著高于对照组。以上结果表明,不同乡土植物对拉关木化感作用的敏感性不同,拉关木水浸提液抑制了桐花树的生长,而对正红树的生长则表现出一定程度的促进作用。  相似文献

Reproductive character and genetic diversity were investigated for an autogamous species of Tylophora matsumurae endemic to the Ryukyu Islands and its progenitor species T. tanakae. Approximately one-fourth of bagged flowers set fruits in T. matsumurae, although no fruits were obtained from bagged flowers in T. tanakae. In situ pollen tube germination was observed with high frequency in all five populations examined in T. matsumurae. Furthermore, in T. matsumurae, anther sacs were not dehisced even at anthesis. These results suggest the highly autogamous nature of T. matsumurae. No allozymic variation was detected in all seven populations examined in T. matsumurae. The phenogram constructed using the neighbor-joining method based on Nei's unbiased genetic distance indicated that T. matsumurae clustered with the Okinoerabu Island population of T. tanakae. The estimated outcrossing rate of four populations of T. tanakae varied from 0.18 to 0.59. It is probable that T. matsumurae had been derived from the predominantly self-pollinating population of T. tanakae, and rapidly enlarged its distribution area.  相似文献

Bothriochloa laguroides var. laguroides (DC.) Herter, a native bluestem of America, has been shown to produce many biologically active compounds. The allelopathic potential of aqueous extracts from roots, stems and leaves was examined. Lettuce seeds (Lactuca sativa) and maize (Zea mays), the common allelopathy bioassay systems, as well as seeds from two native species, wintergreen paspalum (Paspalum guenoarum) and lovegrass (Eragrostis curvula), were germinated in the presence of aqueous extracts. Percent seed germination, root and shoot elongation were measured. After 4 and 7 days root, stem and leaf extracts caused inhibition of root and shoot elongation in all four species tested. Aqueous extracts were generally less inhibitory to seed germination. Aqueous extracts from different parts of B. laguroides var. laguroides show therefore allelopathic effects inhibiting, in particular, growth of competing plants.  相似文献
