Aqueous solutions of the arylmethane dyes Chromoxane pure blue BLD (C.I. No. 43825) and Chromoxane pure blue B (C.I. No. 43830) will stain beryllium oxide. In the presence of EDTA the staining of other metals is masked. As a specific stain for BeO, formol saline fixed paraffin sections are hydrated and stained for 1 hr with either 0.1 gm of pure blue BLD in 100 ml of pH 4.0 Na-acetate buffer or with 0.1 gm of pure blue B in 1 N NaOH adjusted to pH 9.0 with HCl. To mask interference from other metal ions, 9 gm of Na2-EDTA is added to 100 ml of the stain solution. BeO is stained blue, organic tissue components are either unstained or pink. Results of tests against other materials show that a high degree of specificity may be expected from these dyes. A 1% aqueous solution of neutral red may be used as a counterstain.  相似文献

The ultimate goal of this work is the study of the effect of luminescence stimulations and signals reading modes combinations on the thermoluminescence intensity and glow curve behaviour for the same X-ray irradiation dose. Three interesting stimulating and reading modes are considered, namely, infrared stimulated luminescence (IRSL), blue light-emitting diode stimulated luminescence (BLSL) and thermally stimulated luminescence (TSL). The studied stimulation and reading modes combination protocols are (Protocol 1) IRSL-TSL, (Protocol 2) IRSL-BLSL-TSL and (Protocol 3) BLSL-IRSL-TSL. Experiments are performed on beryllium oxide (BeO) dosimeter. Results demonstrate well that the combination of reading modes have direct impact on the TL signal in terms of intensity and glow curve shape. It was also found that when reading modes are correctly combined, particularly when IRSL is applied first, then BLSL and TL, it is possible to collect two or more exploitable signals of different stimulation types for the same irradiation that can be used for different purposes and final applications.  相似文献

The design, production and adaptability to clinical routine of a patient-specific tumor and respiratory monitoring phantom (TRMP) was investigated using 3D printer technology. TRMP and GTV modelling were done using 4D-CT images of the inhalation phase. The model was converted to STL (Stereolithography) format and printed with STH (Strong Herbal) biopolymer with HU (Hounsfield Unit) suitable for imaging purposes. The assembly of TRMP motorized parts and mechanical equipment has been completed and made suitable for clinical use. In the first part of the study, the deviations of radio-opaque markers attached to the TRMP sternum to perform mechanical quality control tests and T1-7 costal vertebrae in CC, AP, and LAT directions were evaluated. In the second part of the study, in order to evaluate the usability of the TRMP in quality assurance (QA), point dose measurements with BeO OSL dosimetry and EBT3 gafchromic film measurements were taken in Trilogy® radiotherapy accelerator and CyberKnife® robotic radiosurgery accelerator. In this study, we present a highly flexible TMRP capable of performing independent internal and external motions. Be is a toxic metal used in both aerospace and defense industries. Lung exposure to Be can lead to a specific immune response called chronic beryllium disease (CBD). CBD has the unique characteristics that it can be triggered by very low level exposures, yet the onset of systems can be delayed from one to over 20 years. This variable delay in the onset of systems implies that a change in the local environment leads to dissolution and bio-availability of the particulate Be. We report here on the dissolution of the highly insoluble BeO in the presence of known Be ligands including the iron transport protein, transferrin, and the ubiquitous citric acid. The presence of ligands even at the 100 μM level led to dissolution of Be to levels that have been shown to cause immune response in both the blood and the lung. Dissolution occurred at pH 7 and was significantly enhanced in a 10 mM phosphate buffer.  相似文献

A theory is derived to calculate the regional and total deposition of aerosol particles in the nasal passages during inhalation. The particle size studied range from 0.2 to 10.0 μm diameter. The deposition is calculated in five regions; (I) the region filled with nasal hair, (II) the nasal valve, (III) the expansion region, (IV) the turbinate region and (V) the posterior bend. Equations are derived to determine the deposition caused by direct impaction on the nasal hairs and bends of the passages. The calculations show the deposition due to direct impaction does not account for the amount or location of deposited particles measured in experiments. Secondary flows have been speculated to exist in the expansion region after the nasal valve and an equation is derived to estimate the deposition caused by the secondary flows. The calculated deposition, due to direct impaction and secondary flows, shows general agreement with the experiment as to the predicted amount and location of deposited particles.  相似文献

The Adirondacks of New York State, USA is a region that is sensitive to atmospheric mercury (Hg) deposition. In this study, we estimated atmospheric Hg deposition to the Adirondacks using a new scheme that combined numerical modeling and limited experimental data. The majority of the land cover in the Adirondacks is forested with 47% of the total area deciduous, 20% coniferous and 10% mixed. We used litterfall plus throughfall deposition as the total atmospheric Hg deposition to coniferous and deciduous forests during the leaf-on period, and wet Hg deposition plus modeled atmospheric dry Hg deposition as the total Hg deposition to the deciduous forest during the leaf-off period and for the non-forested areas year-around. To estimate atmospheric dry Hg deposition we used the Big Leaf model. The average atmospheric Hg deposition to the Adirondacks was estimated as 17.4 g m yr with a range of −3.7–46.0 g m yr. Atmospheric Hg dry deposition (370 kg yr) was found to be more important than wet deposition (210 kg yr) to the entire Adirondacks (2.4 million ha). The spatial pattern showed a large variation in atmospheric Hg deposition with scattered areas in the eastern Adirondacks having total Hg deposition greater than 30 μg m−2 yr−1, while the southwestern and the northern areas received Hg deposition ranging from 25–30 μg m−2 yr−1.  相似文献

太湖地区氮素湿沉降动态及生态学意义:以常熟生态站为例   总被引:26,自引:1,他引:26  
在常熟生态站2001年6月至2003年5月连续两年定位收集湿沉降,对太湖地区氮素湿沉降动态进行研究.结果表明,湿沉降氮输入量季节变化显著,夏、春季高,秋、冬季低.在湿沉降输入氮中NH4^+-N、NO3^--N和DON的比例分别为47.6%、35.1%和17.4%.湿沉降中NH4^+-N主要来自当地农田的氨挥发,湿沉降NH4^+-N月输入量随月降雨量增加而增加(R0=0.3178^**).该地区空气中NO3^--N浓度相对比较稳定,湿沉降中NO3^--N浓度与降雨量呈负相关(R^2=0.4205^***).湿沉降NO33^--N月输入量与月降雨次数呈直线正相关(R^2=0.6757***),而与月降雨量相关性较差(R^2=0.1985^*).湿沉降TN年输入量为27.0kg·hm^-2,并在所有降雨中,氮浓度均超过水体富营养化阈值(0.2mg·L^-1).  相似文献

Estimates of dry and wet deposition of nitrogen and sulphur compounds in the Czech Republic for the years 1994 and 1998 are presented. Deposition has been estimated from monitored and modeled concentrations in the atmosphere and in precipitation, where the most important acidifying compounds are sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, ammonia, and their reaction products. Measured atmospheric concentrations of SO2, NOx, NH3, and aerosol particles (SO4(2-), NO3-, and NH4+), along with measured concentrations of SO4(2-), NO3-, and NH4+ in precipitation, weighted by precipitation amounts, were interpolated with Kriging technique on a 10- x 10-km grid covering the whole Czech Republic. Wet deposition was derived from concentration values for SO4(2-), NO3-, and NH4+ in precipitation and from precipitation amounts. Dry deposition was derived from concentrations of gaseous components and aerosol in the air, and from their deposition velocities. A multiple resistance model was used for calculation of SO2, NOx, and NH3 deposition velocities. Deposition velocities of particles were parameterized. It was estimated that the annual average deposition of SOx in the Czech Republic decreased from 1384 to 1027 mol H + ha(-1) a(-1) between 1994 and 1998. The annual average NOy deposition was estimated to be 972 and 919 mol H + ha(-1) a(-1) in 1994 and 1998, respectively. The annual average NHx deposition was estimated to be 887 mol H+ ha(-1) a(-1) and 779 mol H + ha(-1) a(-1) in 1994 and 1998, respectively. It was estimated that the annual average of the total potential acid deposition decreased from 3243 to 2725 mol H + ha(-1) a(-1) between 1994 and 1998. Sulphur compounds (SOx) contributed about 38%, oxidized nitrogen species (NOy) 34%, and reduced nitrogen species (NHx) 28% to the total potential acid deposition in 1998. The arrangement, colour, shape and size of floral parts (collectively floral design) have evolved primarily to promote mating success via animal‐mediated pollen transfer. Although numerous studies have examined variation in pollinator assemblages, relatively few have examined patterns of pollen removal and deposition in the presence of fluctuating pollinators and ineffective floral visitors; therefore, net pollen removal and deposition by entire visitor assemblages are unclear. We studied the timing (diurnal or nocturnal) and effects of floral traits on pollen removal and deposition under a dynamic visitor assemblage of Polemonium brandegeei. We quantified pollen grains remaining in anthers (pollen removal) and deposited on stigmas (pollen deposition) of plants visited during either the day (07:30–20:00 h) or night (20:30–07:30 h) in natural populations over two flowering seasons. Pollen removal and deposition occurred both diurnally and nocturnally during our study. Increased diurnal removal and deposition coincided with peak floral visitations in 2006. This increase in pollen removal and deposition may reflect increased visits by pollen consumers, effective hawkmoth pollinators and increased self‐pollen deposition due to hot, dry weather. Nonlinear effects of style length significantly affected pollen removal, with less pollen remaining in flowers with intermediate style lengths. Pollen deposition was more complex, with herkogamy and anther height affecting deposition. Further, close proximity of stigmas and anthers increased the potential for sexual interference between pollen removal and deposition. Overall, flower visitations and pollen removal and deposition varied between years and populations, but sex organ placement consistently influenced the removal and deposition of pollen.  相似文献

Approximately US $1.3 billion is spent each year on insecticide applications in major row crops. Despite this significant economic importance, there are currently no widely established decision-support tools available to assess suitability of spray application conditions or of the predicted quality or performance of a given commercial insecticide applications. We conducted a field study, involving 14 commercial spray applications with either fixed wing airplane (N=8) or ground rig (N=6), and we used environmental variables as regression fits to obtained spray deposition (coverage in percentage). We showed that (1) ground rig applications provided higher spray deposition than aerial applications, (2) spray deposition was lowest in the bottom portion of the canopy, (3) increase in plant height reduced spray deposition, (4) wind speed increased spray deposition, and (5) higher ambient temperatures and dew point increased spray deposition. Potato psyllid, Bactericera cockerelli (Sulc) (Hemiptera: Triozidae), mortality increased asymptotically to approximately 60% in response to abamectin spray depositions exceeding around 20%, whereas mortality of psyllid adults reached an asymptotic response approximately 40% when lambda-cyhalothrin/thiamethoxam spray deposition exceeded 30%. A spray deposition support tool was developed (http://pilcc.tamu.edu/) that may be used to make decisions regarding (1) when is the best time of day to conduct spray applications and (2) selecting which insecticide to spray based on expected spray deposition. The main conclusion from this analysis is that optimization of insecticide spray deposition should be considered a fundamental pillar of successful integrated pest management programs to increase efficiency of sprays (and therefore reduce production costs) and to reduce risk of resistance development in target pest populations.  相似文献

对贵阳市区到农村地区的石生藓类氮含量进行了系统分析,并根据藓类氮含量(y,%)和大气氮沉降(x, kg hm~(-2) a~(-1))的平均定量关系(y=0.052x+0.7325)计算了各采样点的大气氮沉降值.贵阳地区大气氮沉降的变化范围为0.91~44.69kg hm~(-2) a~(-1),市区大气氮沉降最高平均(29.21±6.17)kg hm~(-2) a~(-1),主要来自城市废水NH3释放;最低平均(11.95±3.95)kg hm~(-2) a~(-1),出现在城市和农村的结合地带,主要原因在于来自市区的氮污染物减少、且大量分布了环城林带、农业活动相对较低;20km以外的农村地区大气氮沉降略微升高(平均(14.31±5.11)kg hm~(-2) a~(-1)),主要反映了农业施肥导致NH3释放的增加.结果表明,石生藓类氮含量是一种经济可靠的大气氮沉降监测工具,能够较准确地量化大气氮沉降的水平,并为深入研究大气氮沉降的生态环境效应提供基础资料.  相似文献

Employing the rabbit's abdominal aorta as a suitable atherosclerotic model, transient three-dimensional blood flow simulations and monocyte deposition patterns were used to evaluate the following hypotheses: (i) simulation of monocyte transport through a model of the rabbit abdominal aorta yields cell deposition patterns similar to those seen in vivo, and (ii) those deposition patterns are correlated with hemodynamic wall parameters related to atherosclerosis. The deposition pattern traces a helical shape down the aorta with local elevation in monocyte adhesion around vessel branches. The cell deposition pattern was altered by an exercise waveform with fewer cells attaching in the upper abdominal aorta but more attaching around the renal orifices. Monocyte deposition was correlated with the wall shear stress gradient and the wall shear stress angle gradient. The wall stress gradient, the wall shear stress angle gradient and the normalized monocyte deposition fraction were correlated with the distribution of monocytes along the abdominal aorta and monocyte deposition is correlated with the measured distribution of monocytes around the major abdominal branches in the cholesterol-fed rabbit. These results suggest that the transport and deposition pattern of monocytes to arterial endothelium plays a significant role in the localization of lesions.  相似文献

随着人类活动干扰的加剧以及全球气候变化,大气氮沉降的生态效应日益成为人们关注的焦点.氮沉降的增加能够带来生态系统结构和功能的改变,引起一系列生态效应.氮沉降对干旱半干旱地区生态系统的影响主要包括以下方面:(1)在干旱半干旱地区,氮沉降主要以脉冲形式进入氮循环进而影响其它生态过程;(2)氮沉降能够增加土壤氮矿化和土壤无机氮浓度,但氮循环还会受许多其它因素的影响;(3)氮沉降对土壤微生物代谢活动有很强的促进作用,但对其生物量的影响存在争议;(4)氮沉降能够影响植物生产力、根的生长,其效应主要受到水的调节作用;(5)氮沉降能够降低本地种的物种丰富度,有利于外来1年生物种的入侵.  相似文献

An atmospheric deposition study was conducted in the downwind of Shaktinagar Thermal Power Plant (STPP), Renusagar Thermal Power Plant (RTPP), and Anpara Thermal Power Plant (ATPP), at Singrauli region, Uttar Pradesh (UP), India to characterize dry and wet deposition in relation to different pollution loading. During the study period, dry and wet depositions and levels of gaseous pollutants (SO2 and NO2) were estimated across the sites. Dry deposition was collected on a monthly basis and wet deposition on an event basis. Depositions were analyzed for pH, nitrate (NO3-), ammonium (NH4+), and sulphate (SO4(2-)) contents. Dry deposition rate both collected as clearfall and throughfall varied between 0.15 to 2.28 and 0.33 to 3.48 g m(-2) day(-1), respectively, at control and maximally polluted sites. The pH of dry deposition varied from 5.81 to 6.89 during winter and 6.09 to 7.02 during summer across the sites. During the rainy season, the mean pH of clear wet deposition varied from 6.56 to 7.04 and throughfall varied from 6.81 to 7.22. The concentrations of NO2 and SO2 pollutants were highest during the winter season. Mean SO2 concentrations varied from 18 to 75 g m(-3) at control and differently polluted sites during the winter season. The variation in NO2 concentrations did not show a pattern similar to that of SO2. The highest NO2 concentration during the winter season was 50 g m(-3), observed near RTPP. NO2 concentration did not show much variation among different sites, suggesting that the sources of NO2 emission are evenly distributed along the sites. The concentrations of NH4+, NO3-, and SO4(2-) ions in dry deposition were found to be higher in summer as compared to the winter season. In dry deposition (clearfall) the concentrations of NH4+, NO3-, and SO4(2-) varied from 0.13 to 1.0, 0.81 to 1.95, and 0.82 to 3.27 mg l(-1), respectively, during winter. In wet deposition (clearfall), the above varied from 0.14 to 0.74, 0.81 to 1.82, and 0.67 to 2.70 mg l(-1), respectively. The study clearly showed that both dry and wet depositions varied between the sites and season, suggesting significant impact of industrial activities in modifying the atmospheric input. The nonacidic deposition suggests that there is no threat of acidification of the receiving ecosystem at present.  相似文献

To investigate the effect of exercise and its associated increase in ventilation on the deposition and subsequent retention of inhaled particles, we measured the fractional and regional lung deposition of a radioactively tagged (99mTc) monodisperse aerosol (2.6 microns mass median aerodynamic diam) in normal human subjects at rest and while exercising on a bicycle ergometer. Breath-by-breath deposition fraction (DF) was measured throughout the aerosol exposures by Tyndallometry. Following each exposure gamma camera analysis was used to 1) determine the regional distribution of deposited particles and 2) monitor lung retention for 2.5 h and again at 24 h. We found that DF was unchanged between ventilation at rest (6-10 l/min) and exercise (32-46 l/min). Even though mouth deposition was enhanced with exercise, it was not large enough to produce a significant difference in the deposition fraction of the lung (DFL) between resting and exercise exposures. The central-to-peripheral distribution of deposited aerosol was larger for the exercise vs. resting exposure, reflecting a shift of particle deposition to more central bronchial airways. Apical-to-basal distribution was not different for the two exposures. Retention at 2.5 h and 24 h (R24) was reduced following the exercise vs. the resting exposure, consistent with greater bronchial deposition during exercise. The product of DFL and R24 gave a measure of fractional burden at 24 h (B24), i.e., the fraction of inhaled aerosol residing in the lungs 24 h after exposure. The effects of sheep urine deposition volume (0, 1, 2 or 4 L/m2) and deposition stage of plant growth (vegetative or reproductive) on the number and size of tillers/branches and the biomass of Stipa bungeana, Artemisia capillaries and Lespedeza davurica in a Chinese steppe grassland were determined. The results indicate that the response of the three plant species to sheep urine deposition differs, and is influenced by both urine deposition volume and deposition stage of plant growth. Urine deposition had a short-term scorch effect on grassland plants, which mainly occurred in the inner zone of urine patches. Urine application had a long-term positive effect on S. bungeana and a long-term negative effect on A. capillaries and L. davurica, which lasted at least two years and decreased with decrease in urine deposition volume. All species growing in the inner zone of urine patches were scorched by sheep urine deposition, some species in the marginal zone of patches were also scorched, while no species were scorched in the outer zones. The reproductive and vegetative stages of A. capillaries and the reproductive stages of S. bungeana and L. davurica were sensitive to sheep urine deposition.  相似文献

大气CO2浓度升高和N沉降以及二者之间的耦合作用对陆地森林生态系统的影响是当前国际生态学界关注的热点之一。该实验运用大型开顶箱(open-top chamber, OTC)研究: 1)高CO2浓度(700 μmol×mol-1) +高N沉降(100 kg N×hm-2×a-1) (CN); 2)高CO2浓度(700 μmol×mol-1)和背景N沉降(CC); 3)高N沉降(100 kg N×hm-2×a-1)和背景CO2浓度(NN); 4)背景CO2和背景N沉降(CK) 4种处理对南亚热带主要乡土树种木荷(Schima superba)、红锥(Castanopsis hystrix)、肖蒲桃(Acmena acuminatissima)、红鳞蒲桃(Syzygium hancei)、海南红豆(Ormosia pinnata)叶片元素含量的影响。研究结果表明, 大气CO2浓度升高对5种乡土树种叶片元素含量有较大的影响, 除海南红豆叶片的Ca含量外, 其他树种的叶片元素含量在高CO2浓度处理下都显著升高(p < 0.05); 而在N沉降处理下, 5个树种的叶片K和Ca含量都降低。大气CO2浓度升高与N沉降处理对5种乡土树种植物叶片元素含量影响的交互作用不是很明显, 仅仅木荷和红鳞蒲桃的叶片Ca和Mn以及海南红豆的叶片Mn含量在大气CO2浓度上升和N沉降交互处理下显著下降, 而肖蒲桃的叶片P含量在大气CO2浓度上升和N沉降交互处理下显著上升。  相似文献

Summary Studies of pollen dispersal in insect-pollinated plants have often documented highly leptokurtic patterns of pollen deposition that can increase the likelihood of long-distance mating. To examine potential causes of highly leptokurtic deposition, we introduce four functions that arise when (1) the duration of pollinator visits to pollen sources is limited, (2) the rate of pollen deposition varies randomly among pollinators and/or among visits, (3) the rate of pollen deposition changes monotonically over time or (4) pollen is carried in layers or compartments on the pollinator's body that differ in deposition rate. Maximum likelihood techniques were used to fit deposition functions to data obtained from honey bees (Apis mellifera L.) visiting mustard plants (Brassica campestris L.) that contained a marker gene. Each of the alternative leptokurtic functions fit the experimental data better than a simple exponential function and the best-fit function predicted a mean pollen dispersal distance more than three times greater than the exponential. We argue that studies of pollen deposition need to test a broader range of deposition models to assess outcrossing distance in plant populations accurately.  相似文献
