Fertilized eggs of Ilyanassa obsoleta Stimpson were collected immediately after their deposition in egg capsules. Unopened egg capsules then were affixed to glass slides, and incubated either statically (controls) or on a clinostat (experimentals). After incubation for 9-14 days, hatching occurred sooner and in a higher percentage of clinostated capsules than in controls. Embryos that hatched while undergoing clinostat incubation were abnormal in morphology, whereas other embryos present in non-hatched capsules in the same tubes appeared normal, as did embryos in the control tubes. Although the results are compatible with a conclusion that vector-averaged gravity in the experimental tubes caused the altered development, some other aspects of how the incubations were done may have contributed to the differences between the control and experimental results. 相似文献

The apical ganglion (AG) of larval caenogastropods, such as Ilyanassa obsoleta, houses a sensory organ, contains five serotonergic neurons, innervates the muscular and ciliary components of the velum, and sends neurites into a neuropil that lies atop the cerebral commissure. During metamorphosis, the AG is lost. This loss had been postulated to occur through some form of programmed cell death (PCD), but it is possible for cells within the AG to be respecified or to migrate into adjacent ganglia. Evidence from histological sections is supported by results from a terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) assay, which indicate that cells of the AG degenerate by PCD. PCD occurs after metamorphic induction by serotonin or by inhibition of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity. Cellular degeneration and nuclear condensation and loss were observed within 12 h of metamorphic induction by NOS inhibition and occur before loss of the velar lobes, the ciliated tissue used for larval swimming and feeding. Velar disintegration happens more rapidly after metamorphic induction by serotonin than by 7-nitroindazole, a NOS inhibitor. Loss of the AG was complete by 72 h after induction. Spontaneous loss of the AG in older competent larvae may arise from a natural decrease in endogenous NOS activity, giving rise to the tendency of aging larvae to display spontaneous metamorphosis in culture. 相似文献

The phenotypic analysis of a new spontaneous recessive lethal mutation of Drosophila melanogaster is described. The lethal(2)thin mutation maps at 85.6 on chromosome 2 and produces a characteristic long, thin puparium due to an inability to shorten the larval form prior to pupariation. Histological examination of larval muscles and behavioural studies support the hypothesis that the mutation affects the striated structure of the larval muscles in late larval stages. Lethality largely occurs due to an inability to perform the movements necessary for pupation, although there is evidence for larval and possibly embryonic lethal phases. 相似文献

Between February and March 1986, 18 species of snails were collected from different habitats in Kuwait Bay; 2.9% were infected. A total of 16 species of cercariae were recovered representing the following morphological types: brevifurcate-apharyngeate (1), cotylomicrocercous (2), furcocystocercous (2), gymnocephalous (1), longifurcate-pharyngeate (1), megalurous (3), oculate trichocercous (1), parapleurolophocercous (1), and xiphidiocercaria (4). Of the mature cercarial infections, 19.5% were furcocystocercous cercariae infecting Clypeomorus bifasciatus, followed by xiphidiocercaria (10.1%) in 4 host species. Snails harboring immature infections were encountered 142 times, mainly in the limpet Siphonaria rosea, and accounted for 52.8% of all infections. Metacercarial infection was found only in Planaxis sulcatus (1.11%). The larger variety of cerariae were recovered from the mud snail Cerithidea cingulata which contributed 6 of the species encountered. Snails from muddy and sandy habitats had higher infection rates and diversity of cercarial types than those from rocky habitats. This is possibly due to differences in the abundance of birds and fish definitive hosts in the two habitats. 相似文献

Summary Surface architecture and selected ultrastructural features of normal embryos of the marine gastropod Ilyanassa obsoleta have been investigated using scanning and transmission electron microscopy. A re-examination of the classic account of Anthony Clement on temporal and division patterns in normal and lobeless embryos confirms most of his observations; a few differences, involving the size and positioning of micromere 4d and its derivatives, are noted. Several hypotheses are presented to account for zonular distribution of longer microvilli on some blastomere surfaces and progressive diminution of microvilli on micromere surfaces, especially the leading edge micromeres (LEMs), during postulated epibolic spreading movements. Microfilaments, discovered in the cortical regions of the LEMs, are described, and a role for these structures in gastrulation is proposed. 相似文献

In the presence of the mud snail Ilyanassa obsoleta (Say), the tubicolous amphipod Microdeutopus gryllotalpa (Costa) emigrates to snail-free sediments, as demonstrated in laboratory and field experiments. Emigration occurs predominantly in the dark when the amphipod is most active. Unlike crevices, the thickness of sediments in which the amphipod is established offers no protection from snail disturbance. Emigration is shown to be caused by the disturbance generated by the snail's plowing and burrowing across the sediment surface, and not a response to a reduction in the shared microfloral food supply. The crawling and burrowing of the smaller mud snail, Hydrobia totteni Morrison, does not disturb Microdeutopus, supporting the hypothesis that relative body sizes affects the ability of bioturbators/burrowers to disturb tube-dwellers. As the burrows of Microdeutopus extend only ≈2 cm below the sediment surface, thick mud layers do not offer any refuge from Ilyanassa. However, very small solid surfaces (≈1–2 mm in relief) to which the amphipods build tubes do provide some protection from Ilyanassa. In soft-sediment benthic communities, such small structures may provide significant refuge for small epifauna and shallow burrowing infauna escaping from small-scale, biogenic disturbance. 相似文献

The reproduction and development of the prosobranch gastropodAlaba vladivostokensis Bartsch were studied. In Vostok Bay,A. vladivostokensis reproduces in the warmest season at water temperatures of 19–23°C. The females lay egg masses in the shape of flat, coiled
bands on eelgrass leaves and on sargosso thalluses. The total period of development from egg laying to larval settling takes
25–27 days. The reproduction and development patterns and larval morphology ofA. vladivostokensis are similar to that ofAustralaba picta (A. Adams), which inhabits the coast of Japan. An analysis of differentiating oocytes of the gastropod, Ilyanassa obsoleta, has been made by techniques of light and electron microscopy. Early previtellogenic oocytes are limited by a smooth surfaced oolemma and are associated with each other by maculae adhaerentes. Previtellogenic oocytes are also distinguished by a large nucleus containing randomly dispersed aggregates of chromatin. Within the ooplasm are Golgi complexes, mitochondria and a few cisternae of the rough endoplasmic reticulum. When vitellogenesis begins, the oolemma becomes morphologically specialized by the formation of microvilli. One also notices an increase in the number of organelles and inclusions such as lipid droplets. During vitellogenesis there is a dilation of the saccules of the Golgi complexes and cisternae of the endoplasmic reticulum. Associated with the Golgi complexes are small protein-carbohydrate yolk precursors encompassed by a membrane. These increase in size by fusing with each other. The “mature” yolk body is a membrane-bounded structure with a central striated core and a granular periphery. At maturity a major portion of the ooplasmic constituents such as as mitochondria and lipid droplets occupy the animal region while the bulk of the population of yolk bodies are situated in the vegetal hemisphere. The follicle cells incompletely encompass the developing oocyte. In addition to the regularly occurring organelles, follicle cells are characterized by the presence of large quantities of rough endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi complexes whose saccules are filled with a dense substance. Associated with the Golgi saccules are secretory droplets of varied size. Amongst the differentiating oocytes and follicle cells are Leydig cells. These cells are characterized by a large vacuole containing glycogen. A possible function for the follicle and Leydig cells is discussed. 相似文献

【目的】在不同幼虫密度饲养条件下,研究二点委夜蛾Athetis lepigone生长发育及繁殖的情况,明确幼虫密度对该害虫的室内种群增长的影响。【方法】本实验设置5个幼虫饲养密度即1,5,10,20和30头/瓶(750 mL),分别观察5个饲养密度下该虫的各个龄期及整个幼虫发育历期及存活率、蛹重、蛹期以及成虫生殖情况。【结果】幼虫密度对该虫幼虫各龄期及整个幼虫发育历期及存活率、蛹重、蛹期以及成虫生殖情况均有显著性影响。整个幼虫发育历期随着密度的增加而缩短,10头/瓶达到最短(18.27 d),之后随着幼虫密度的增加而显著延长;幼虫至蛹的存活率随着密度增高而显著下降,30头/瓶最低(39.37%)。蛹期随着密度的增加而延长(10头/瓶除外)。蛹重和每雌产卵量均以1头/瓶最高,随着幼虫密度的增加而显著下降。雌雄蛾寿命均以10头/瓶最长,与1和5头/瓶没有显著性差异。生命表分析显示:二点委夜蛾的种群增长指数以5头/瓶最高,幼虫密度过低或者过高均不利于种群增长。【结论】幼虫密度是影响二点委夜蛾种群增长的重要因子之一。 相似文献

The Drosophila brain consists of a relatively small number of invariant, genetically determined lineages which provide a model to study the relationship between gene function and neuronal architecture. In following this long‐term goal, we reconstruct the morphology (projection pattern and connectivity) and gene expression patterns of brain lineages throughout development. In this article, we focus on the secondary phase of lineage morphogenesis, from the reactivation of neuroblast proliferation in the first larval instar to the time when proliferation ends and secondary axon tracts have fully extended in the late third larval instar. We have reconstructed the location and projection of secondary lineages at close (4 h) intervals and produced a detailed map in the form of confocal z‐projections and digital three‐dimensional models of all lineages at successive larval stages. Based on these reconstructions, we could compare the spatio‐temporal pattern of axon formation and morphogenetic movements of different lineages in normal brain development. In addition to wild type, we reconstructed lineage morphology in two mutant conditions. (1) Expressing the construct UAS‐p35 which rescues programmed cell death we could systematically determine which lineages normally lose hemilineages to apoptosis. (2) so‐Gal4‐driven expression of dominant‐negative EGFR ablated the optic lobe, which allowed us to conclude that the global centrifugal movement normally affecting the cell bodies of lateral lineages in the late larva is causally related to the expansion of the optic lobe, and that the central pattern of axonal projections of these lineages is independent of the presence or absence of the optic lobe. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Summary Larval development in the South African polychaete Arenicola loveni loveni is described, and the effects of seawater temperature on fertilization success, post-fertilization development and early post-settlement survivorship are experimentally determined. Fertilization success was significantly effected by seawater temperature, with maximum fertilization success measured in the range 15–18°C, which is close to the ambient temperature range at the time of natural spawning. Poor fertilization success and abnormal cleavage were observed at the low temperature treatment of 7°C and the high temperature treatment of 23°C. A. loveni loveni exhibits spiral cleavage typical of polychaetes and has a short lecithotrophic swimming trochophore larval stage of 4–5 days. High mortality was noted during the transitional periods from gastrula-trochophore and during the settlement process. Settlement occurs just 4–5 days post-fertilization and the postsettlement stage begins feeding 1 week post-fertilization. Temperatures in the range 16.5–23°C were found to have a significant effect on larval and post-larval survivorship and growth rate increased with temperature within this range. The effects of manipulating spawning date on subsequent offspring survival and development rates were also investigated. Advancing or delaying spawning time caused reduced development rates, and delaying spawning for 3 months was found to significantly reduce offspring survivorship. 相似文献

The embryonic and larval development of Thai pangas was investigated during peak (May-July 1995) and late spawning (August-October 1995) periods. The fertilized eggs are adhesive and spherical with a yellowish or greenish-brown egg capsule. The yolk sac is yellowish-brown in color and 1.20-1.80 mm in diameter. Nine hours post-fertilization, the first cleavage stage, embryonic shield, head, tail region, neural grooves and somites were evident. The incubation period ranges from 24-36 h at a temperature of 20-30 degrees C. The newly hatched larvae are quite transparent and light yellowish in color with a body length of 2.98-3.10 mm. Eye pigments appear and the heart starts to work within 12-14 h of hatching. In 1-day-old pro-larvae, the mouth becomes well developed; barbules are elongated, prominent and look like tiny threads. The yolk sac is fairly well absorbed and the palatine teeth are fully developed during the 3 day pro-larval stage. At the end of 12 days of larval development, the stomach becomes functional and aerial respiration starts. After 2 weeks, the young fry is well-developed, and is of an adult appearance, that is, measuring up to 13.56 mm in length. 相似文献

Activity of some of the main enzymes involved in protein digestion and absorption (acid and alkaline proteases, leucine-aminopeptidase, acid and alkaline phosphatases) as well as those of amylase and lipase, was assessed during larval development of white sea bream Diplodus sargus . All enzyme activity was detected at the moment of mouth opening. The variations observed in the activity profiles of the digestive enzymes were correlated either to developmental events, such as the functional start of the stomach (22 days after hatching), or to changes in the nature of the diet. The early and noticeable development of digestive enzyme activities was linked to a high survival after weaning. 相似文献

Summary Cirripedes are fascinating models for studying both functional constraints and diversity in larval development. Adult cirripedes display an amazing variation in morphology from sessile suspension feeders that still retain many crustacean characters to parasites that have lost virtually all arthropod traits. In contrast, cirripede larval development follows a common scheme with pelagic larvae comprising a series of nauplii followed by a cyprid. Variations are mostly concerned with whether or not the nauplii are feeding and the degree of abbreviation of development, culminating in species where the larvae hatch as cyprids. The cypris larvae are very similar among the ingroups of the Cirripedia, but interesting variations occur in structures used for substrate location and attachment. The cyprid is specialized to both swim through the water and actively explore the substratum by walking on the antennules and using an array of sensory organs in search for a suitable site to attach. This unique morphology and behavior of the cyprid have enabled the Cirripedia to colonize widely different habitats ranging from hard rock to soft animal tissue. Yet, the cyprid can metamorphose into juveniles as different as a setose feeding barnacle and the vermiform stages of the parasitic forms. This emphasizes the importance of the cyprid as one of the key features for the evolutionary success of the Cirripedia. 相似文献

Summary Each of the second quartet micromeres of Ilyanassa obsoleta was removed and the effects on larval development analyzed. Structures most often affected by removal of 2a were the left velar lobe, the left eye and the left statolith. Removal of 2b resulted in no consistent pattern of defects. Removal of 2c resulted in atypical shell development, absence of the heart, and eversión of the stomodeum; additional effects noted in some individuals involved the right velar lobe, the right statolith and perhaps the right eye. Anomalous birefringent bodies appeared frequently in the anterior region of the larva, on the right side after removal of 2c, and on the left side after removal of 2a. After removal of 2d the external shell was usually absent or rudimentary, the stomodeum was often everted, and other effects were noted in some individuals. 龟足(Capitulum mitella Linnaeus)在我国主要分布于长江口以南海浪剧烈冲击的暴露型岩相海岸的中、高潮区,是一种颇具养殖潜力和市场前景的新品种。研究温度(24、27、30、33℃)和盐度(28,31,34)对龟足胚胎发育和幼虫生长的协同影响,可为龟足的人工育苗提供依据。结果如下(1):33℃-28温盐度组合胚胎发育时间最短144h,27℃-28温盐度组合胚胎相对孵化率最高。温度与盐度对胚胎发育时间没有显著影响;但温度和盐度对胚胎孵化率有极显著影响,温度与盐度间的交互作用显著。胚胎发育最适宜的温盐度组合是27℃-28。(2):27℃的3个盐度组、30℃-31温盐度组合无节幼虫持续时间最短。在同一盐度条件下以27℃的存活率较高,在同一温度条件下以盐度31的存活率较高,其中以27℃-31温盐度组合的存活率最高;存活率1和存活率2分别高达99.0%、90.7%。27℃-28、27℃-31温盐度组合变态率最高,变态率分别为81.8%、73.7%。34高盐组幼虫的存活率和变态率均很低甚至为零。温度和盐度对幼虫存活率和变态率有极显著影响,两者的交互作用极为显著。综合无节幼虫持续时间、存活和变态情况,27℃-31温盐度组合为幼虫生长发育的最佳组合条件。龟足胚胎发育、无节幼虫的生长和变态对温度盐度的敏感性有所不同,这是由龟足的自身繁殖特点及生活环境决定的。 相似文献

Biodiversity of aquatic gastropods in the Mont St-Michel basin (France) in relation to salinity and drying of habitats 总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
Seventy-seven polder and marsh stations were sampled for aquatic and riparian gastropods in the terrestrial basin of Mont St-Michel from March 1994–March 1995 and during a drought in 1996. In addition, four ponds with riparian coppice (bocage) were investigated. Twenty-one stations, mostly in polders, lacked snails; high values of conductivity, and by implication salinity, appeared to make the habitats unfavourable. Only the euryhaline hydrobid Potamopyrgus antipodarum and the amphibious lymnaeid Lymnaea truncatula survived in areas of high conductivity. In associated lagoons, the maximum level of salinity tolerated by freshwater gastropods was 35. Of the 14 species of gastropods collected, Lymnaea peregra and Anisus leucostoma were the most abundant. Stations had 1–7 species and the average gastropod species richness was 3.32 (±1.67). The canals that were the most susceptible to drying had a community of desiccation-resistant species including L. truncatula, Aplexa hypnorum, A. leucostoma and L. peregra. It appears that gastropod assemblages in the terrestrial basin of Mont St-Michel have achieved their current diversity by surviving strong ecological constraints. 相似文献
