After administration of testosterone propionate to male chick embryos and chickens, their testis have an activity, on the retrogression of mullerian ducts, much more important than that observed in testis of normal subjects of the same age, activity measured by grafting testis fragments in undifferentiated female chick embryos. The results suggest that testosterone gives such an effect by inhibiting pituitary gonadotropins, peculiarly FSH.  相似文献

Theophyllin and puromycine, inhibitors of the enzyme phosphodiesterase and AMPc are all able to inhibit the retrogression of mullerian ducts in the female chick embryo, grafted with an embryonic testis. We can think that these results are explained by an inhibitory action of AMPc on the mechanisms responsible for the mullerian retrogression. So the chick embryo reacts similarly as do the mammalian embryo.  相似文献

In the two cases of congenital absence of the vagina reported herein, the embryologic point of arrest of development of the mullerian ducts was identical. Both patients had a rudimentary uterus, and one had a fibroid tumor on the rudimentary uterus. As a part of operation to construct a vagina in such cases, exploratory pelvic laparotomy appears to be a desirable step in order to determine the status of the internal genital organs. The use of a split thickness skin graft sewn around a vaginal mold and inserted into the dissected vaginal space results in more rapid healing, less scar tissue and a vagina that is soft, pliable and normal in appearance, even to the extent of having rugal folds.  相似文献

The absence of the hypothalamo-hypophyseal complex had neither influence on the ovarian atrophy, nor on the mullerian retrogression induced by an embryonic testicular graft in the female embryo. Mullerian inhibiting substance type II receptor (MISRII) is a member of the transforming growth factor-beta superfamily. Mutations in mullerian inhibiting substance (MIS) or MISRII cause male sexual abnormalities, persistent mullerian duct syndrome, and pseudohermaphroditism. The spatial and temporal regulation of MIS and MISRII is important for its biological action. Male Wnt7a mutant mice do not undergo regression of mullerian ducts. Here we showed that the canonical Wnt signaling pathway regulated MISRII. The promoter MISRII was activated by beta-catenin expression, and this activation was dependent on TCF4-binding sites. The nuclear receptor superfamily member steroidogenic factor 1 (SF1) synergistically activated the MISRII promoter with beta-catenin. APC, a negative regulator of Wnt signaling, decreased SF1-mediated activation of the MISRII promoter in the colon carcinoma cell line SW480. We also showed a direct physical interaction between beta-catenin and SF1 by co-immunoprecipitation. Thus, our findings suggest that MISRII is a developmental target of Wnt7a signaling for mullerian duct regression during sexual differentiation.  相似文献

Persistent mullerian duct syndrome is a relatively rare inherited defect of sexual differentiation characterised by failure of regression of the mullerian ducts in males. In affected individuals, the uterus and tubes are present due to a defect of synthesis or action of antimullerian hormone normally produced by testicular Sertoli cells. The authors report four cases with a mean age of 20 years. All patients were phenotypically normal males, with bilateral cryptorchidism in two cases and unilateral irreducible inguinal mass in the other two cases. The mullerian ducts were removed in two cases and left in place in two cases as they were intimately adherent to the vas deferens. Long-term follow-up was decided due to the risk of malignant transformation of these remnants recently described in literature. According to the authors, the best management of these structures is excision and orchidopexy. In the case of adult infertility with testicular atrophy, gonadectomy and androgen replacement therapy are recommended.  相似文献

The sources of origin and the peculiarities of formation of the seminal ducts and rete testis during the prenatal period of ontogenesis in man were studied. It has been established that the seminal duct sand the ducts of the rete testis form from the cellular cords of the coelomic epithelium and the primordial germ cells which appear simultaneously in the septum of the testis and the primordial germ cells which appear simultaneously in the septum of the testis and central part of its parenchyma in the embryos, 13.0--17.0 mm long. By plastic and graphic reconstruction, as well as by methods of subtle preparation under binocular microscope MBC-I control it was revealed that the seminal ducts anastomosed between themselves both within the limits of one and the adjacent lobules. The ducts of the rete testis do not form anastomoses, but superimpose over one another, creating an impression of a rete. Approaching the tunica albuginea they merge, continuing into the cuctuli efferentes testis.  相似文献

Inhibin extracted from bovine follicular fluid and administered to chick embryos at a dosage increasing from 0.4 to 30 micrograms per embryo did not induce the regression of the Müllerian ducts of treated females. This result contrasts with that obtained with a testis graft which acts through its anti-Müllerian hormone. Although both hormones were of glycoproteic nature and secreted by the same cells, this study shows no functional analogy between them.  相似文献

Testicular structure of 9 species and sperm head morphology of 19 species of Cottidae were observed in order to clarify relationships between morphological characteristics of the male reproductive organ and reproductive mode (copulation or non-copulation). Morphological structure of the testis was divided into the following five types based on the sperm transfer and reservoir system: (1) a non-duct type in which the sperm duct is not a distinct exterior structure, but the tube for sperm transport traverses along the testis as an interior structure; (2) an anterior duct type with distinct anterior sperm ducts traversing along the testis; (3) a posterior duct type with distinct anterior sperm ducts traversing along the dorsal hilus of testis and posterior sperm ducts extending to the rear of the testis; (4) an anterior duct posterior vesicle type with distinct anterior sperm ducts traversing along the testis, and the right and left sperm ducts fusing in the rear of testis, forming the seminal vesicle; (5) a non-duct posterior vesicle type in which sperm ducts do not accompany the testis, and the testis and seminal vesicle are connected directly or through posterior sperm ducts. It is thought that in Cottidae the non-duct type of reproductive organ is primitive, and the anterior duct type is common to all non-copulating species. The testes and accompanying seminal vesicle were seen only in copulating species. Sperm head morphology was divided into three types according to the length/width ratio: oval type ≤2, intermediate type >2 and ≤3, and slender type >3. The type of sperm head corresponded closely to the reproductive mode; non-copulating species had oval sperm head, and copulating species had intermediate or slender ones. These results suggest that the structure of the testis and the morphology of the sperm head evolved from testes with anterior sperm ducts and oval sperm heads to testes with an associated seminal vesicle and slender sperm heads in association with the evolution from non-copulatory to copulatory reproduction in Cottidae.  相似文献

If the optic glands are removed from mature male octopuses, the weight of the testis and its ducts decline. Spermatophore production eventually ceases after five or six weeks. The effect of the operation is most marked in the case of large animals. If the glands are activated by removing the source of their nerve supply in the subpedunculate lobe of the suprapesophageal brain, testis and duct enlargement follows enlargement of the glands themselves ; the number of spermatophores found in the male ducts doubles within a month of the operation. Castration of the animals is not followed by a change in the weight of the male ducts, indicating that the optic gland secretion affects the state of the ducts directly rather than through the testis. Octopus vulgaris Cuvier and O. cyanea Gray were used in the experiments.  相似文献

It is important to identify the signal transduction pathway involved in the regulation of fluid reabsorption by the ductuli efferentes of the testis because they reabsorb most of the fluid leaving the testis and are essential for male fertility. Microperfusion studies of the ducts in vivo showed that 0.1 or 1.0 mM dibutyryl (db)-cGMP in the perfusate had no effect on fluid reabsorption, but 0.1 mM db-cAMP significantly reduced fluid reabsorption, 0.25 mM abolished reabsorption, and 0.5-1.0 mM caused secretion. The inhibitory effect of db-cAMP was reversible. Although the presence of db-cAMP in the perfusate did not affect the concentration of Na+ in the collectate, the concentrations of K(+) and Cl(-) increased, indicating that their transport is at least partly regulated by cAMP. Including the phosphodiesterase inhibitor pentoxifylline in the perfusate decreased fluid reabsorption by the ducts in a dose-dependent manner, and it also increased the concentration of cAMP (5.5-fold) in collectate. Pentoxifylline also increased the production of cAMP (4-fold) by ducts incubated in vitro. It is concluded that cAMP, but probably not cGMP, is an intracellular messenger regulating fluid reabsorption in the efferent ducts.  相似文献

Shape and orientation of the mesothelial cells were examined in the mullerian ducts of 8, 13 and 15 day female chick embryos with the scanning electron microscope. The observed evolution in the pattern of these cells likely reflects the mechanical conditions to which these organs are subjected during embryonic development: stretching for the left duct, slackening for the right duct. These observations, together with data concerning growth of these organs, suggest that topographical relationships between cells, which in this system result from mechanical factors, play an important role in controlling cell proliferation.  相似文献

This study investigated the morphology and immunoexpression of aquaporins (AQPs) 1 and 9 in the rete testis, efferent ducts, epididymis, and vas deferens in the Azara’s agouti (Dasyprocta azarae). For this purpose, ten adult sexually mature animals were used in histologic and immunohistochemical analyses. The Azara’s agouti rete testis was labyrinthine and lined with simple cubic epithelium. Ciliated and non-ciliated cells were observed in the epithelium of the efferent ducts. The epididymal cellular population was composed of principal, basal, apical, clear, narrow, and halo cells. The epithelium lining of vas deferens was composed of the principal and basal cells. AQPs 1 and 9 were not expressed in the rete testis. Positive reaction to AQP1 was observed at the luminal border of non-ciliated cells of the efferent ducts, and in the peritubular stroma and blood vessels in the epididymis, and vas deferens. AQP9 was immunolocalized in the epithelial cells in the efferent ducts, epididymis and vas deferens. The morphology of Azara’s agouti testis excurrent ducts is similar to that reported for other rodents such as Cuniculus paca. The immunolocalization results of the AQPs suggest that the expression of AQPs is species-specific due to differences in localization and expression when compared to studies in other mammals species. The knowledge about the expression of AQPs in Azara’s agouti testis excurrent ducts is essential to support future reproductive studies on this animal, since previous studies show that AQPs may be biomarkers of male fertility and infertility.  相似文献

This case report describes a female calf with arthogryposis, an extra set of incision teeth, ventral abdominal hernia, tibial hemimelia and the nonunion of mullerian ducts. This is possibly the first occurrence of these anomalies in one animal. Five reproductive classes of cobia Rachycentron canadum , caught along the Gulf of Mexico and the south-east Atlantic coast of the U.S.A., are described during the annual reproductive cycle. These are based upon changes in the testicular germinal epithelium and the stages of germ cells that are present: early maturation, mid maturation, late maturation, regression and regressed. During early maturation, the germinal epithelium is continuous from the testicular ducts to the periphery of the testis and active spermatogenesis occurs throughout the testis. In mid maturation, the germinal epithelium near the ducts becomes discontinuous, but it remains continuous distally. In late maturation, a discontinuous germinal epithelium extends all along the lobules to the testicular periphery; lobules are swollen with sperm and there is minimal spermatogenesis. The regression class is characterized by a discontinuous epithelium throughout the testis, sperm storage and widely scattered spermatocysts. Spermatogonial proliferation also occurs along the lobule walls and at the periphery of the testis. In regressed testes, spermatogonia exist only in a continuous or discontinuous germinal epithelium, although residual sperm are nearly always present in the lobules and ducts. The presence or absence of sperm is not an accurate indicator of reproductive classes. At the periphery of the testis in the regression and regressed classes, the distal portions of lobules elongate as cords of cells containing spermatogonia and Sertoli cells. All reproductive classes can be identified in paraffin sections, although plastic sections provide better resolution. Using maturation classes defined by changes in the germinal epithelium to describe testicular development and spermatogenesis gives a more accurate picture than does using the traditional terminology.  相似文献

Rete testis and epididymis are rare locations for primary tumors or metastasis. Assuming that this may be related to expression level of angiogenic inhibitors, we focused our study on the expression pattern of collagen 18/endostatin. In situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry for collagen 18 and endostatin were carried out on sections of human rete testis and epididymis as well as on epididymal adenoma and human testicular tissue with or without carcinoma in situ (CIS). In situ hybridization revealed strong expression of collagen 18 mRNA in rete testis, efferent ducts and epididymal duct. Immunostaining showed collagen 18 in epithelium and basement membrane as well as in blood vessels of rete testis. Further, in both efferent ducts and epididymal duct, collagen 18 was mainly localized in the basement membrane of these ducts and of the blood vessel wall. Endostatin immunostaining was localized in the epithelium of rete testis, efferent ducts and epididymal duct. This pattern of endostatin staining was absent in epididymal adenoma tissue while tumor associated blood vessels exhibited strong endostatin staining. No endostatin staining was detectable in normal germinal epithelium and CIS cells while Leydig cells exhibited strong endostatin staining. High endostatin expression in epididymis may protect this organ against tumor development. Gene therapeutic strategies providing high expression of endostatin in normal epithelia may be useful to prevent tumor development.  相似文献

The histology and fine structure of the epithelial cells of the intratesticular excurrent ducts were studied in material collected from fourteen adult camels and fixed by perfusion. The intratesticular excurrent ducts consisted of a terminal segment of the seminiferous tubule, a tubulus rectus, and a rete testis. The terminal segment was lined with modified Sertoli cells which formed a plug-like structure in the receptacle. The tubulus rectus was subdivided into the receptacle, the narrow main part, and the wider distal part, and these parts were lined with different types of epithelium. The rete testis occupied an axial mediastinum testis, and the height of its epithelium varied quite considerably. Degenerated spermatozoa were seen engulfed by the epithelial cells of the entire intratesticular duct system. Light cells, lymphocytes, and macrophages were observed. The fine structure of the epithelium of the intratesticular ducts is discussed in relation to its possible functions.  相似文献
