The effect of cow manure and two rates of addition of municipal solid waste (MSW) compost on the enzymatic activity of a soil supporting barley cultivation was studied and compared with mineral fertilisation (MF). The experiment was carried out in unirrigated land in field conditions for two years. One set of plots was fertilised only once, at the start of the experiment, while another set of plots was fertilised annually (before each sowing). In general, the organic amendments stimulated soil enzyme activity but mineral fertilisation did not. The annual addition of large quantities of MSW compost, in general, led to lower levels of enzyme activity than similar rates of amendment in the plots receiving a single addition, probably because of the toxic effect which the heavy metals incorporated with the MSW compost had on microbial development. In the second year, plot receiving a single application of organic amendment showed higher protease hydrolysing casein, beta-glucosidase and dehydrogenase activities than control or soil with mineral fertilisation. This implied that the addition of organic waste, and particularly MSW compost, had a catalysing effect in the soil which lasted for the following years. Barley yields obtained with organic amendments were, in general, similar to, or even higher, than those obtained with mineral fertilisation. The annual addition of high doses of compost had an inhibitory effect on enzyme activity and barley yield (compared with the results obtained with the low addition of compost) due to the negative effect of the heavy metals incorporated with the compost.  相似文献

Three mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) crops (Crops 1, 2, 3) were grown to evaluate the effects of re-supplementing “spent” first break compost [mushroom compost (MC)] on mushroom yield. Mushrooms were produced for one break at the Mushroom Test Demonstration Facility, the casing layer was removed and the MC was re-supplemented with hydrolyzed protein, commercial supplements and crystalline amino acids and then re-cased at the Mushroom Research Center. Sixteen supplements, including five crystalline amino acids, one amino acid blend, one egg white and four hydrolyzed proteins, Micromax® (a micronutrient containing nine minerals) and four commercial supplements were evaluated for their effect on mushroom yield and biological efficiency. In Crop 1, mushroom yields were stimulated (49–61%) when MC was re-supplemented with 3.6% (dry wt) Pro-Fam® H200 FG hydrolyzed soy protein, Remo’s commercial supplement, l-isoleucine (ile), egg white protein, amino blend HLA-198 and hydrolyzed whey. Significant yield reductions were observed for MC re-supplemented with 3.6% l-tyrosine, dl-methionine or l-arginine compared to the non-supplemented control. In Crop 2, mushroom yield ranged from a high of 31.3 kg/m2 on MC supplemented with 3.3% Remo’s + 0.3% ile (oven dry MC) to a low of 22.6 kg/m2 on non-supplemented (control) MC (38.5% difference). In Crop 3, a response surface model was used in an attempt to optimize combinations of Remo’s commercial supplement, ile and Micromax. The response surface solution for optimal yield was 2.9% Remo’s, 0.16% ile and 0.4% Micromax. Because many of the products tested performed equally well but varied substantially in their amino acid profiles, A. bisporus appears adaptable to different supplements containing both balanced and unbalanced amino acid contents, especially those rich in the branched chain amino acids. Development and improvement of supplements designed specifically for MC may allow further increases in productivity. Double cropping would ultimately lower the cost of mushroom production by reducing labor, raw materials and time required to prepare fresh Phase II compost.  相似文献

Three cropping experiments (0710, 0803 and 0805) were conducted to determine the effect of adding spawn, various levels of delayed release nutrient, and phase II compost to 2nd break mushroom compost (2BkC) on mushroom yield and biological efficiency (BE). We also investigated the effect of delaying time of re-casing non-supplemented and supplemented 2BkC on mushroom yields and BEs. The addition of 14.6% spawn to nutrient-supplemented 2BkC (w.w./d.w) increased yield by 11.1% over the control (no spawn) but did not affect BE. The addition of delayed release supplements to 2BkC increased maximum yields by 29–54%, depending on the treatment. Substitution of 15% phase II compost in 2BkC (15/85) did not significantly affect mushroom yields. However, use of 15% phase II compost in 2BkC increased the response of the mixture to delayed release supplement. Yield response to increasing levels of supplement was greater in the 15/85 mixture compared to 100% 2BkC. Yields also increased as time of re-casing was delayed up to 10 days. Mushroom yields increased approximately 2.1% for each day re-casing was delayed. Overall yields were generally higher from commercial 2BkC compared to 2BkC originating from the Penn State Mushroom Research Center (MRC) probably due to nitrogen (N) content of the 2BkC. Nitrogen content in commercial 2BkC (Crop 0805) was 3% while N content in 2BkC from Crops 0710 and 0803 was 2.2% and 2.1%, respectively. By optimizing supplement levels and adding 15% phase II compost to commercial 2BkC, or by delaying casing by 5–10 days, it was possible to obtain BEs that were equivalent to supplemented phase II compost.  相似文献

The effects of the addition of compost, prepared from vegetable market refuse and stomach contents of slaughtered cattle, were studied in a sandy soil contained, in pots and kept in a greenhouse environment. Comparison was made between: i) a treatment involving pots containing compost mixed with 5% soil, ii) four treatments in which increasing quantities of compost homogeneously taken from the same lot (0, 10000, 20000, 30000 kg ha−1) were integrated with NPK mineral fertilizer to equalize available nutrients; iii) an untreated control. At 3, 4, and 5 years from the date of treatment, after various other crops, sunflower was planted. The yield obtained, though it fell off from year to year, was approximately double in the case of 95% compost. The other four treatments also resulted in production increases compared with the untreated control. Production was found to rise progressively with increasing quantities of compost. The improvement in soil chemistry and microbiology, as shown by analyses performed 5 years after treatment with compost, suggests that the rise in crop production may be attributed to an overall improvement in all components involved in the fertility of the soil used, in our experimental conditions.  相似文献

Summary Pot experiments with oats on manganese deficient sandy and moor soils, which are not deficient in iron, showed a steady increase in yield and manganese uptake by the plants with increasing additions of ferrous sulphate at four levels of manganese. Residual effects from ferrous sulphate application were not found either in the case of yields or manganese uptake by oats on a sandy soil.The effect observed following application of ferrous sulphate was due to a manganese effect. This is corroborated by the coincidence of the yield curves, showing the relationship between absorbed manganese and yield of dry matter, following the application of manganese sulphate and ferrous sulphate.Soils treated withM magnesium nitrate in the presence of equivalent quantities of either ferrous sulphate or hydroquinone yielded the same amounts of manganese. 1997年在中国农业大学曲周试验站设置了施用EM堆肥、传统堆肥、化肥和对照处理的田间试验,在2004年和2005年取样测定土壤的矿质氮和氮矿化率.结果表明:在小麦生长的前期矿质氮含量是:化肥处理 > EM堆肥处理 > 传统堆肥处理 > 对照;但是在施用化肥前和小麦生长的后期矿质氮含量是: EM堆肥处理 > 传统堆肥处理 > 化肥处理 > 对照.土壤的氮矿化率是:EM堆肥处理 > 传统堆肥处理 > 化肥处理 > 对照.小麦的产量是:EM堆肥处理显著高于传统堆肥处理,传统堆肥处理显著高于化肥处理,化肥处理显著高于对照.与传统堆肥相比,EM堆肥提高了土壤的矿质氮含量,提高了土壤的氮矿化率,增加了小麦产量.  相似文献

Summary Application of iron as ferrous sulphate or chloride to a loam not deficient in manganese had no effect on the yield but increased the uptake of manganese even in barley which grew vigorously.In an experiment with sugar beet on two soils contrasted with regard to their available manganese supply, applications of manganese, iron and nitrogen were tested in all combinations. On the Købelev soil, not deficient in manganese, no increases in yields were obtained on addition of ferrous sulphate while increases in manganese uptake were found for all combinations of treatments except where iron was added in the presence of manganese.On the manganese deficient Faarevejle soil, significantly higher increases in yields of roots were obtained from ferrous sulphate in the presence of nitrogen than in the presence of manganese. The effect of iron in the presence of nitrogen on the yield of tops was also significant. These treatments also gave the highest increases in manganese uptake.The amounts of manganese extractable from the soils by magnesium nitrate over a range of pH 2–8 could be increased considerably by addition of ferrous sulphate.The results support the suggestion that application of ferrous sulphate to some soils has the same effect as an addition of manganese.  相似文献

This study was conducted during 1992–1994 under semi-arid conditions in Burkina Faso. Our aim was to assess the influence of different mulch materials on soil variables affecting crop growth; i.e. water content, nutrient contents and temperature. The grain yield of Sorghum bicolor was used as a bioindicator, i.e. as an integrated measure of mulch effects.Six treatments were tested, two of which were leaf mulches of special interest for agroforestry. The treatments were chosen to represent mulch materials differing in nutrient content and decomposability (assumed to influence the duration of the impact on soil water content and temperature). The treatments were as follows: (1) control (no addition), (2) Azadirachta indica (neem) leaves, (3) neem leaves + aerobic compost of sorghum straw, (4) aerobic compost, (5) Acacia holocericea (acacia) phyllodes, and (6) wild grass. The mulching rate was 5 t dry matter ha-1, and base mineral fertilizers were applied to all plots.It was shown that the neem leaves, neem leaves + compost, wild grass and acacia phyllodes treatments all significantly influenced the soil by conserving water and reducing temperatures compared with the control or the treatment with compost alone. Plots treated with either neem leaves, neem leaves + compost or compost alone gave higher yields than the three other treatments, generally poorer in nutrients, between which there was little difference. Neem leaves gave the numerically highest response: 1.54 × control, corresponding to a grain yield increase of 554 kg dry mass ha-1 yr-1 when averaged over the three years of study.Thus, yields did not always increase in spite of increased soil moisture and decreased soil temperatures. It was concluded that nutrients were more limiting than water or high soil temperatures under the conditions studied. The highest yields were achieved with a mulch that combines high nutrient delivery with water conservation and temperature reduction, namely mulch from neem leaves.  相似文献

The combined application of organic resources (ORs) and mineral fertilizers is increasingly gaining recognition as a viable approach to address soil fertility decline in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). We conducted a meta-analysis to provide a comprehensive and quantitative synthesis of conditions under which ORs, N fertilizers, and combined ORs with N fertilizers positively or negatively influence Zea mays (maize) yields, agronomic N use efficiency and soil organic C (SOC) in SSA. Four OR quality classes were assessed; classes I (high quality) and II (intermediate quality) had >2.5% N while classes III (intermediate quality) and IV (low quality) had <2.5% N and classes I and III had <4% polyphenol and <15% lignin. On the average, yield responses over the control were 60%, 84% and 114% following the addition of ORs, N fertilizers and ORs + N fertilizers, respectively. There was a general increase in yield responses with increasing OR quality and OR-N quantity, both when ORs were added alone or with N fertilizers. Surprisingly, greater OR residual effects were observed with high quality ORs and declined with decreasing OR quality. The greater yield responses with ORs + N fertilizers than either resource alone were mostly due to extra N added and not improved N utilization efficiency because negative interactive effects were, most often, observed when combining ORs with N fertilizers. Additionally, their agronomic N use efficiency was not different from sole added ORs but lower than N fertilizers added alone. Nevertheless, positive interactive effects were observed in sandy soils with low quality ORs whereas agronomic use efficiency was greater when smaller quantities of N were added in all soils. Compared to sole added ORs, yield responses for the combined treatment increased with decreasing OR quality and greater yield increases were observed in sandy (68%) than clayey soils (25%). While ORs and ORs + N fertilizer additions increased SOC by at least 12% compared to the control, N fertilizer additions were not different from control suggesting that ORs are needed to increase SOC. Thus, the addition of ORs will likely improve nutrient storage while crop yields are increased and more so for high quality ORs. Furthermore, interactive effects are seldom occurring, but agronomic N use efficiency of ORs + N fertilizers were greater with low quantities of N added, offering potential for increasing crop productivity.  相似文献

A series of cropping experiments has demonstrated that mushroom yields show an approximate logistic response to a range of insecticide concentrations incorporated in the compost. This principle applies only to the cumulative yield at any flush, and the response of an individual flush is, therefore, related to the difference between two logistic curves. Increases in crop can thus occur in later flushes, partially compensating for earlier losses. With diazinon treatments, but not thionazin, some of this compensation was due to increases in the size of mushrooms. It is concluded that commercial applications of 50 ppm diazinon could cause up to 2–5 % reduction in crop and that 10 ppm thionazin may cause a 6% loss which must be weighed against the advantages of treatment. Suggestions are made for the design and interpretation of future trials.  相似文献

This study evaluated the influence of diets supplemented with 500, 800, 1200 mg kg-1 of vitamin C (ascorbic acid or AA) and vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol or alpha-T) on the physiological responses of pirarucu fed for 2 months. Weight and mortality were not affected by dietary vitamin type or their concentrations. Significant increase (p<0.05) on the red blood cells count was obtained on treatments with 800 and 1200 mg AA kg-1 and on the hemoglobin concentration on treatment with 500 mg alpha-T kg-1 relatively to control. Mean corpuscular volume presented a significant decrease (p<0.05) on treatment with 800 and 1200 mg AA kg-1 when compared to control. Mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration was significantly high (p<0.05) on treatment with 500 mg alpha-T kg-1. Only in vitamin C treatments, we noticed a significant increase (p<0.05) in the number of leucocytes relative to control. All fish in the vitamin-supplemented treatments, except 500 mg AA kg-1, had high total protein values compared to control. Fish treated with 800 or 1200 mg alpha-T kg-1 also showed increases in plasma glucose concentrations. Our results suggest that 800 and 1200 mg AA kg-1 are probably the most suitable concentrations for pirarucu diets, although high vitamin E diets are not necessary for quantitative leucocyte increases for this species.  相似文献

Urethane was studied for its potential to induce micronuclei in bone marrow of CD-1 mice following various dosing and sampling schedules. It was found that: (1) mice dosed for 3 days by gavage with urethane at daily doses of 300, 600 and 1200 mg.kg-1 showed no increases in micronuclei compared to normal control values; (2) mice injected with 3 daily intraperitoneal (i.p.) doses of urethane at 400 and 1200 mg.kg-1 demonstrated substantial and dose-related increases in micronuclei; (3) mice given urethane at i.p. doses of 400 mg.kg-1 for 1, 2 and 3 days showed protocol related micronucleus yields with triple greater than single greater than double dosing, while mice given urethane at i.p. doses of 1200 mg.kg-1 showed a different trend with double greater than single dosing, the triple-dosing regimen proving cytotoxic to the bone marrow; (4) mice exposed i.p. to 400 mg.kg-1 of urethane had more micronuclei when sampled at 24 h than at 48 h after 1 or 2 daily treatments, while mice dosed i.p. with 1200 mg.kg-1 of urethane showed more micronuclei at 48 h than at 24 h after a single treatment, the double-dosing protocol being toxic to the marrow; (5) female mice were more susceptible to bone-marrow micronucleus induction than males with both quantitative and qualitative sex differences noted, depending on dose, regimen and sample.  相似文献

Chemical maturity parameters in addition to plant growth limiting factors have been monitored in the course of a 2-month composting experiment. Wheat straw with 5% dry w horse manure was adjusted to C/N= 45 with urea. The pile was rotated and homogeneous samples were taken every four days. The most intense changes in straw fractions occurred in the first 20 days of composting, as suggested by wet chemical analyses, thermogravimetry and 13C NMR spectrometry. Nevertheless, plant response to compost application gave significant changes at between 20–60 days that were not clearly reflected by the above techniques. Glasshouse experiments with a soil treated with compost samples taken at the successive transformation stages suggested no linear correlation between composting time and the potential of compost in improving plant yield. In the samples taken after 20 days in the conditions studied, referred to as postmature composts, the ryegrass yield did not depend on most of the organic matter characteristics, but closely paralleled the concentration of available nitrogen and – to lesser extent – phosphorous in the compost. The probable immobilization of these elements in the course of composting was also suggested by plant response experiments with different doses of compost and the addition or not of mineral solution.  相似文献

The recycling of livestock manure in cropping systems is considered to enhance soil fertility and crop productivity. However, there have been no systematic long-term studies of the effects of manure application on soil and crop macro- and micro-nutrients, heavy metals, and crop yields in China, despite their great importance for sustainable crop production and food safety. Thus, we conducted field experiments in a typical cereal crop production area of the North China Plain to investigate the effects of compost manure application rates on wheat yield, as well as on the macro-/micro-nutrients and heavy metals contents of soil and wheat. We found that compost application increased the soil total N and the available K, Fe, Zn, and Mn concentrations, whereas the available P in soil was not affected, and the available Cu decreased. In general, compost application had no significant effects on the grain yield, biomass, and harvest index of winter wheat. However, during 2012 and 2013, the N concentration decreased by 9% and 18% in straw, and by 16% and 12% in grain, respectively. With compost application, the straw P concentration only increased in 2012 but the grain P generally increased, while the straw K concentration tended to decrease and the grain K concentration increased in 2013. Compost application generally increased the Fe and Zn concentrations in straw and grain, whereas the Cu and Mn concentrations decreased significantly compared with the control. The heavy metal concentrations increased at some compost application rates, but they were still within the safe range. The balances of the macro-and micro-nutrients indicated that the removal of nutrients by wheat was compensated for by the addition of compost, whereas the level of N decreased without the application of compost. The daily intake levels of micronutrients via the consumption of wheat grain were still lower than the recommended levels when sheep manure compost was applied, except for that of Mn.  相似文献

Application of organic fertilizers and charcoal increase nutrient stocks in the rooting zone of crops, reduce nutrient leaching and thus improve crop production on acid and highly weathered tropical soils. In a field trial near Manaus (Brazil) 15 different amendment combinations based on equal amounts of carbon (C) applied through chicken manure (CM), compost, charcoal, and forest litter were tested during four cropping cycles with rice (Oryza sativa L.) and sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) in five replicates. CM amendments resulted in the highest (P < 0.05) cumulative crop yield (12.4 Mg ha−1) over four seasons. Most importantly, surface soil pH, phosphorus (P), calcium (Ca), and magnesium (Mg) were significantly enhanced by CM. A single compost application produced fourfold more grain yield (P < 0.05) than plots mineral fertilized in split applications. Charcoal significantly improved plant growth and doubled grain production if fertilized with NPK in comparison to the NPK-fertilizer without charcoal (P < 0.05). The higher yields caused a significantly greater nutrient export in charcoal-amended fields, but available nutrients did not decrease to the same extent as on just mineral fertilized plots. Exchangeable soil aluminum (Al) was further reduced if mineral fertilizer was applied with charcoal (from 4.7 to 0 mg kg−1). The resilience of soil organic matter (SOM) in charcoal amended plots (8 and 4% soil C loss, mineral fertilized or not fertilized, respectively) indicates the refractory nature of charcoal in comparison to SOM losses over 20 months in CM (27%), compost amended (27%), and control plots (25% loss).  相似文献

A pot experiment was conducted to compare the effects of compost and mineral fertilization on the growth and chemical composition of ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) in two Malian agricultural soils (Baguinéda, abbreviated as Bgda, 12 degrees 23' S, 7 degrees 45' W and Gao. 16 degrees 18' N, 0 degrees GM). Treatments included: control, NPK alone, NPK + C25, NPK + C50, NPK + C100, PK + C50, NK + C50, NP + C50, K + C50, P + C50, N + C50 and C50 alone, where NPK represents the non-modified Hoagland's solution (corresponding to 271, 95 and 172 kg/ha of N, P and K respectively) and C25, C50 and C100 the different rates (25, 50 and 100 T/ha) of compost. Compost and mineral fertilization significantly increased dry matter production. The application of 50 T/ha of compost alone increased the dry matter yield by 10% and 17.5% while mineral NPK alone, by 69.7% and 65% for Gao and Bgda soils, respectively. The combination of compost and mineral NPK (NPK + C25 for Gao and NPK + C50 for Bgda) showed the highest crop yields.  相似文献

Mushroom compost was treated with nematicides and infested with Aphelenchoides composticola at the time of filling into growing containers. Yields of mushrooms from infested untreated control composts were reduced to 40–60% of yields from uninfested control compost. Yields from infested compost treated with fenamiphos emulsifiable concentrate (e.c.) at 10 or 20 mg a.i./kg, thiabendazole wettable powder at 40 or 60 mg a.i./kg or oxamyl granules at 20 mg a.i./kg were as high as from uninfested controls. Compost treated with granules of AC 64,475 up to 20 mg a.i./kg or ethoprophos or thionazin up to 80 mg a.i./kg gave yields significantly lower than uninfested controls. Numbers of nematodes rose to about 106/20 g of compost in untreated compost and then fell, and a similar peak occurred in treatments in which yields were substantially reduced by nematode damage. Treatments which yielded as well as the uninfested controls held maximum nematode numbers down to about 10V20 g of compost but populations stayed at this level or tended to rise while numbers in untreated compost fell. Incorporation of fenamiphos in casing or its application to the surface of beds 3 wk after cropping began gave lower yields than the uninfested control but mushrooms were being produced late in the cropping cycle. Fenamiphos e.c. at 20 mg ai./kg incorporated in compost is considered a practical preventive measure for control of A. composticola.  相似文献

Application of compost to agricultural soils may be beneficial for crop production by increasing soil fertility and supplying plant nutrients, however, any raise of the soil organic matter content may increase the potential for unintended groundwater contamination by nitrate leaching. In this paper, the effect of long-term compost applications on nitrate leaching, soil organic matter content, and crop production is analyzed using results of simulation scenarios for agricultural sites with loamy and sandy soils. Simulations were carried out using the Danish Nitrogen Simulation System (DAISY) which describes the nitrogen balance in a one-dimensional soil-plant-atmosphere system and considers compost type and application rate as well as management and cropping practice. Estimations of hydraulic and solute transport parameters are based on pedotransfer functions. Data from a 4.5-year period of field experiments with compost applications in northern Germany as well as from laboratory experiments with compost amended soil are used for model calibration. Simulation results suggest that: (i) with respect to nitrogen turnover the differences between compost types (i.e., non-matured and matured) are small compared to site-specific properties (i.e., soil temperature and water balance) and management practices (i.e., crop rotation) when considering a compost application period of 50 years; (ii) with respect to nitrate leaching the effect of different compost application scenarios is highly sensitive at the sand and relatively small at the loam site; and (iii) relatively high crop yields and acceptably low nitrate concentrations in the drainage water are obtained at the sand site when applying a combination of 10 t compost/ha/yr and soil- Nmin adjusted mineral nitrogen additions of about 20 kg/ha/yr to a winter-grain dominated crop rotation. Further optimization may be possible by applying reduced rates of the (economically interesting) non-matured compost. Composting of rice straw with poultry manure and oilseed rape cake and its effects on growth and yield of faba bean and soil properties was studied in pot experiments at Gifu University, Japan in 2001/2002. The composts reached maturity in 90 days, were rich in organic matter and mineral nutrients, had a high level of stability, and no phytotoxicity. The addition of compost (20-200 g pot(-1)) improved selected soil chemical (increased total N, total C and CEC), physical (decreased particle density) and biological (increased soil respiration rate) properties. Application of composts at a rate of 20 g pot(-1) significantly increased growth, yield, yield components and total crude protein of faba bean plants. The benefit of this compost without chemical fertilizer demonstrated the validity and possibility of sustainable agronomic performance of faba bean using locally available recycled organic materials.  相似文献
