Oysters (Crassostrea virginica) were collected monthly from May 1998 to April 1999 from Mobile Bay, Ala., and analyzed to determine Vibrio parahaemolyticus densities at zero time and after 5, 10, and 24 h of postharvest storage at 26 degrees C. After 24 h of storage at 26 degrees C, oysters were transferred to a refrigerator at 3 degrees C and then analyzed 14 to 17 days later. The V. parahaemolyticus numbers were determined by the most-probable-number procedure using alkaline phosphatase-labeled DNA probe VPAP, which targets the species-specific thermolabile hemolysin gene (tlh), to identify suspect isolates (MPN-VPAP procedure). Two direct plating methods, one using a VPAP probe (Direct-VPAP) and one using a digoxigenin-labeled probe (Direct-VPDig) to identify suspect colonies, were compared to the MPN-VPAP procedure. The results of the Direct-VPAP and Direct-VPDig techniques were highly correlated (r = 0.91), as were the results of the Direct-VPAP and MPN-VPAP procedures (r = 0.91). The correlation between the Direct-VPDig and MPN-VPAP results was 0.85. The two direct plating methods in which nonradioactive DNA probes were used were equivalent to the MPN-VPAP procedure for identification of total V. parahaemolyticus, and they were more rapid and less labor-intensive.  相似文献

Vibrio parahaemolyticus is an indigenous bacterium of marine environments. It accumulates in oysters and may reach levels that cause human illness when postharvest temperatures are not properly controlled and oysters are consumed raw or undercooked. Predictive models were produced by injecting Pacific oysters (Crassostrea gigas) with a cocktail of V. parahaemolyticus strains, measuring viability rates at storage temperatures from 3.6 to 30.4°C, and fitting the data to a model to obtain parameter estimates. The models were evaluated with Pacific and Sydney Rock oysters (Saccostrea glomerata) containing natural populations of V. parahaemolyticus. V. parahaemolyticus viability was measured by direct plating samples on thiosulfate-citrate-bile salts-sucrose (TCBS) agar for injected oysters and by most probable number (MPN)-PCR for oysters containing natural populations. In parallel, total viable bacterial counts (TVC) were measured by direct plating on marine agar. Growth/inactivation rates for V. parahaemolyticus were −0.006, −0.004, −0.005, −0.003, 0.030, 0.075, 0.095, and 0.282 log10 CFU/h at 3.6, 6.2, 9.6, 12.6, 18.4, 20.0, 25.7, and 30.4°C, respectively. The growth rates for TVC were 0.015, 0.023, 0.016, 0.048, 0.055, 0.071, 0.133, and 0.135 log10 CFU/h at 3.6, 6.2, 9.3, 14.9, 18.4, 20.0, 25.7, and 30.4°C, respectively. Square root and Arrhenius-type secondary models were generated for V. parahaemolyticus growth and inactivation kinetic data, respectively. A square root model was produced for TVC growth. Evaluation studies showed that predictive growth for V. parahaemolyticus and TVC were “fail safe.” The models can assist oyster companies and regulators in implementing management strategies to minimize V. parahaemolyticus risk and enhancing product quality in supply chains.  相似文献

The sensitivity of Vibrio parahaemolyticus cells to refrigeration and frozen storage and the development of a method for detecting injured and uninjured V. parahaemolyticus cells were studied. Cell suspensions in different kinds of seafood homogenates were either regrigerated (4°C) or frozen (−20°C), stored, and examined for cell survival during storage. V. parahaemolyticus cells were sensitive to both storage temperatures. Many cells died, and many survivors were sublethally injured. In general, refrigeration storage appeared to be more injurious than frozen storage. The initial recovery of the sublethally injured cells was highest in a nutritionally rich, nonselective liquid medium such as Trypticase soy broth, whereas maximum cell multiplication was observed in Trypticase soy broth containing 3% NaCl. The sublethally injured V. parahaemolyticus cells demonstrated sensitivity to the selective enrichment medium, glucose salt teepol broth. From these findings, a new method (designated as the “repair-detection” method) was developed for the isolation and enumeration of V. parahaemolyticus. Comparative studies between the recommended and the repair-detection methods showed that injured V. parahaemolyticus cells were present in commercial seafoods and that the repair-detection method was definitely more effective for the detection of total numbers of V. parahaemolyticus cells.  相似文献

Alkyl hydroperoxide reductase subunit C gene (ahpC) functions were characterized in Vibrio parahaemolyticus, a commonly occurring marine food-borne enteropathogenic bacterium. Two ahpC genes, ahpC1 (VPA1683) and ahpC2 (VP0580), encoded putative two-cysteine peroxiredoxins, which are highly similar to the homologous proteins of Vibrio vulnificus. The responses of deletion mutants of ahpC genes to various peroxides were compared with and without gene complementation and at different incubation temperatures. The growth of the ahpC1 mutant and ahpC1 ahpC2 double mutant in liquid medium was significantly inhibited by organic peroxides, cumene hydroperoxide and tert-butyl hydroperoxide. However, inhibition was higher at 12°C and 22°C than at 37°C. Inhibiting effects were prevented by the complementary ahpC1 gene. Inconsistent detoxification of H2O2 by ahpC genes was demonstrated in an agar medium but not in a liquid medium. Complementation with an ahpC2 gene partially restored the peroxidase effect in the double ahpC1 ahpC2 mutant at 22°C. This investigation reveals that ahpC1 is the chief peroxidase gene that acts against organic peroxides in V. parahaemolyticus and that the function of the ahpC genes is influenced by incubation temperature.  相似文献

Hyadaphis foeniculi (Passerini) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) is a cosmopolitan species and the main pest of fennel in northeastern Brazil. Understanding the relationship between temperature variations and the population growth rates of H. foeniculi is essential to predict the population dynamics of this aphid in the fennel crop. The aim of this study was to measure the effect of constant temperature on the adult prereproductive period and the life table fertility parameters (infinitesimal increase ratio (rm), gross reproduction rate (GRR), net reproduction rate (R0), finite increase ratio (λ), generation time (GT), the time required for the population to double in the number of individuals (DT), and the reproduction value (RVx)) of the fennel pest H. foeniculi. The values of lx (survival of nymphs at age x) increased as the temperature rose from 15 to 28°C and fell at 30°C, whereas mx (number of nymphs produced by each nymph of age x) increased from 15 to 25°C and fell at 28 and 30°C. The net reproduction rates (R0) of populations of H. foeniculi increased with temperature and ranged from 1.9 at 15°C to 12.23 at 28°C for each generation. The highest population increase occurred with the apterous aphids at 28°C. The rate of population increase per unit time (rm) (day) ranged from 0.0033 (15°C) to 0.1995 (28°C). The highest values of rm were recorded at temperatures of 28°C and 30°C. The rm values were a good fit to the models tested, with R2 > 0.91 and R2 adj > 0.88. The models tested (Davidson, Sharpe and DeMichele modified by Schoolfield et al., Logan et al., Lamb, and Briere et al.) were very good fits for the rm values observed, with R2 > 0.91 and R2 adj > 0.88. The only exception was the Davidson model. Of the parameters studied, the reproductive capacity was higher in the apterous aphids, with the unique exception of daily fecundity at 28°C, which was higher in the alate aphids of H. foeniculi. Parameters relating to the age-specific fertility table for H. foeniculi were heavily influenced by temperature, with the highest biotic potential and population growth capacity found at 34°C. Therefore, the results obtained in this study could be of practical significance for predicting outbreaks of fennel aphids and improving the management of this aphid in fennel crops.  相似文献

Recent Vibrio parahaemolyticus outbreaks associated with consumption of raw shellfish in the United States focused attention on the occurrence of this organism in shellfish. From March 1999 through September 2000, paired oyster samples were collected biweekly from two shellfish-growing areas in Mobile Bay, Ala. The presence and densities of V. parahaemolyticus were determined by using DNA probes targeting the thermolabile hemolysin (tlh) and thermostable direct hemolysin (tdh) genes for confirmation of total and pathogenic V. parahaemolyticus, respectively. V. parahaemolyticus was detected in all samples with densities ranging from <10 to 12,000 g−1. Higher V. parahaemolyticus densities were associated with higher water temperatures. Pathogenic strains were detected in 34 (21.8%) of 156 samples by direct plating or enrichment. Forty-six of 6,018 and 31 of 6,992 V. parahaemolyticus isolates from enrichments and direct plates, respectively, hybridized with the tdh probe. There was an apparent inverse relationship between water temperature and the prevalence of pathogenic strains. Pathogenic strains were of diverse serotypes, and 97% produced urease and possessed a tdh-related hemolysin (trh) gene. The O3:K6 serotype associated with pandemic spread and recent outbreaks in the United States was not detected. The efficient screening of numerous isolates by colony lift and DNA probe procedures may account for the higher prevalence of samples with tdh+ V. parahaemolyticus than previously reported.  相似文献

Streptococcus lactis ME2 is a dairy starter strain that is insensitive to a variety of phage, including 18. The efficiency of plating of 18 on ME2 and N1 could be increased from <1 × 10−9 to 5.0 × 10−2 and from 7.6 × 10−7 to 2.1 × 10−2, respectively, when the host strains were subcultured at 40°C before plating the phage and the phage assay plates were incubated at 40°C. Host-dependent replication was demonstrated in N1 at 30°C and in N1 and ME2 at 40°C, suggesting the operation of a temperature-sensitive restriction and modification system in ME2 and N1. The increased sensitivity of ME2 and N1 to 18 at 40°C was also demonstrated by lysis of broth cultures and increased plaque size. ME2 grown at 40°C showed an increased ability to adsorb 18, indicating a second target for temperature-dependent phage sensitivity in ME2. Challenge of N1 with a 18 preparation that had been previously modified for growth on N1 indicated that at 40°C phage development was characterized by a shorter latent period and larger burst size than at 30°C. The evidence presented suggests that the high degree of phage insensitivity expressed by ME2 consists of a variety of temperature-sensitive mechanisms, including (i) the prevention of phage adsorption, (ii) host-controlled restriction of phage, and (iii) suppression of phage development. At 30°C these factors appear to act cooperatively to prevent the successful emergence of lytic phage active against S. lactis ME2.  相似文献

The cheese starter strain, Streptococcus cremoris HP, produced variant colonies when streaked on the surface of solid media and incubated at 30 or 37°C or in the presence of penicillin. Serial plating and incubation at 37°C or in the presence of penicillin resulted in the production of variants. Subculture followed by incubation at 25°C or in the absence of penicillin resulted in the reversion or partial reversion to the parent form. Colony morphology and cell morphology exhibited the characteristics of the L-phase. Evidence suggested that the aberrant forms of S. cremoris at 30°C were transitional phase variants but at 37°C and in the presence of penicillin they were L-phase variants. Electron micrographs showed that the cell walls of the variant cells were defective and that there were differences in the density and the organization of the cytoplasmic constituents compared with the parent cell.  相似文献

Meloidogyne enterolobii and M. floridensis are virulent species that can overcome root-knot nematode resistance in economically important crops. Our objectives were to determine the effects of temperature on the infectivity of second-stage juveniles (J2) of these two species and determine differences in duration and thermal-time requirements (degree-days [DD]) to complete their developmental cycle. Florida isolates of M. enterolobii and M. floridensis were compared to M. incognita race 3. Tomato cv. BHN 589 seedlings following inoculation were placed in growth chambers set at constant temperatures of 25°C, and 30°C, and alternating temperatures of 30°C to 25°C (day–night). Root infection by the three nematode species was higher at 30°C than at 25°C, and intermediate at 30°C to 25°C, with 33%, 15%, and 24% infection rates, respectively. There was no difference, however, in the percentages of J2 that infected roots among species at each temperature. Developmental time from infective J2 to reproductive stage for the three species was shorter at 30°C than at 25°C, and 30°C to 25°C. The shortest time and DD to egg production for the three species were 13 days after inoculation (DAI) and 285.7 DD, respectively. During the experimental timeframe of 29 d, a single generation was completed at 30°C for all three species, whereas only M. floridensis completed a generation at 30°C to 25°C. The number of days and accumulated DD for completing the life cycle (from J2 to J2) were 23 d and 506.9 DD for M. enterolobii, and 25 d and 552.3 DD for M. floridensis and M. incognita, respectively. Exposure to lower (25°C) and intermediate temperatures (30°C to 25°C) decreased root penetration and slowed the developmental cycle of M. enterolobii and M. floridensis compared with 30°C.  相似文献

The temperature boundary for phase separation of membrane lipids extracted from Nerium oleander leaves was determined by analysis of spin label motion using electron spin resonance spectroscopy and by analysis of polarization of fluorescence from the probe, trans-parinaric acid. A discontinuity of the temperature coefficient for spin label motion, and for trans-parinaric acid fluorescence was detected at 7°C and −3°C with membrane lipids from plants grown at 45°C/32°C (day/night) and 20°C/15°C, respectively. This change was associated with a sharp increase in the polarization of fluorescence from trans-parinaric acid indicating that significant domains of solid lipid form below 7°C or −3°C in these preparations but not above these temperatures. In addition, spin label motion indicated that the lipids of plants grown at low temperatures are more fluid than those of plants grown at higher temperatures.

A change in the molecular ordering of lipids was also detected by analysis of the separation of the hyperfine extrema of electron spin resonance spectra. This occurred at 2°C and 33°C with lipids from the high and low temperature grown plants, respectively. According to previous interpretation of spin label data the change at 29°C (or 33°C) would have indicated the temperature for the initiation of the phase separation process, and the change at 7°C (or −3°C) its completion. Because of the present results, however, this interpretation needs to be modified.

Differences in the physical properties of membrane lipids of plants grown at the hot or cool temperatures correlate with differences in the physiological characteristics of plants and with changes in the fatty acid composition of the corresponding membrane lipids. Environmentally induced modification of membrane lipids could thus account, in part, for the apparently beneficial adjustments of physiological properties of this plant when grown in these regimes.

The marine foodborne enteropathogen Vibrio parahaemolyticus has four putative catalase genes. The functions of two katE-homologous genes, katE1 (VPA1418) and katE2 (VPA0305), in the growth of this bacterium were examined using gene deletion mutants with or without complementary genes. The growth of the mutant strains in static or shaken cultures in a rich medium at 37°C or at low temperatures (12 and 4°C), with or without competition from Escherichia coli, did not differ from that of the parent strain. When 175 μM extrinsic H2O2 was added to the culture medium, bacterial growth of the ΔkatE1 strain was delayed and growth of the ΔkatE1 ΔkatE2 and ΔkatE1 ΔahpC1 double mutant strains was completely inhibited at 37°C for 8 h. The sensitivity of the ΔkatE1 strain to the inhibition of growth by H2O2 was higher at low incubation temperatures (12 and 22°C) than at 37°C. The determined gene expression of these catalase and ahpC genes revealed that katE1 was highly expressed in the wild-type strain at 22°C under H2O2 stress, while the katE2 and ahpC genes may play an alternate or compensatory role in the ΔkatE1 strain. This study demonstrated that katE1 encodes the chief functional catalase for detoxifying extrinsic H2O2 during logarithmic growth and that the function of these genes was influenced by incubation temperature.  相似文献

This large-scale study compared incubation temperatures (37°C versus 42°C) to study the detection of thermophilic Campylobacter species, including Campylobacter jejuni, C. coli, and C. lari, in various surface water samples and bird fecal droppings around Hamilton Harbor, Lake Ontario. The putative culture isolates obtained from incubation temperatures of 37 and 42°C were confirmed by Campylobacter genus- and species-specific triplex PCR assays targeting the 16S rRNA gene and the 16S-23S rRNA gene internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region. A total of 759 water, wastewater, and bird fecal dropping samples were tested. Positive amplification reactions for the genus Campylobacter were found for 454 (60%) samples incubated at 37°C, compared to 258 (34%) samples incubated at 42°C. C. jejuni (16%) and C. lari (12%) were detected significantly more frequently at the 42°C incubation temperature than at 37°C (8% and 5%, respectively). In contrast, significantly higher rates of C. coli (14%) and other Campylobacter spp. (36%) were detected at the 37°C incubation temperature than at 42°C (8% and 7%, respectively). These results were consistent across surface water, wastewater, and bird fecal dropping samples. At times, Campylobacter spp. were recovered and detected at 37°C (3% for C. jejuni, 10% for C. coli, and 3% for C. lari) when the same samples incubated at 42°C were negative. A significantly higher rate of other Campylobacter spp. was detected only at 37°C (32%) than only at 42°C (3%). These results indicate that incubation temperature can significantly influence the culturability and detection of thermophilic and other fastidious Campylobacter spp. and that a comprehensive characterization of the Campylobacter spp. in surface water, wastewaters, or bird fecal droppings will require incubation at both 37 and 42°C.  相似文献

Total Vibrio parahaemolyticus densities and the occurrence of pathogenic strains in shellfish were determined following outbreaks in Washington, Texas, and New York. Recently developed nonradioactive DNA probes were utilized for the first time for direct enumeration of V. parahaemolyticus in environmental shellfish samples. V. parahaemolyticus was prevalent in oysters from Puget Sound, Wash.; Galveston Bay, Tex.; and Long Island Sound, N.Y., in the weeks following shellfish-associated outbreaks linked to these areas. However, only two samples (one each from Washington and Texas) were found to harbor total V. parahaemolyticus densities exceeding the level of concern of 10,000 g−1. Pathogenic strains, defined as those hybridizing with tdh and/or trh probes, were detected in a few samples, mostly Puget Sound oysters, and at low densities (usually <10 g−1). Intensive sampling in Galveston Bay demonstrated relatively constant water temperature (27.8 to 31.7°C) and V. parahaemolyticus levels (100 to 1,000 g−1) during the summer. Salinity varied from 14.9 to 29.3 ppt. A slight but significant (P < 0.05) negative correlation (−0.25) was observed between V. parahaemolyticus density and salinity. Based on our data, findings of more than 10,000 g−1 total V. parahaemolyticus or >10 g−1 tdh- and/or trh-positive V. parahaemolyticus in environmental oysters should be considered extraordinary.  相似文献

A protein spin label and lipid spin probes were used to study the temperature-dependent motion of protein and lipid, respectively, in barley (Hordeum vulgare L. cv Conquest) root plasma membrane-enriched microsomes. Using membranes from seedlings grown at 20°C, the temperature-dependence of the relative motion of membrane surface spin probes and a spin label covalently attached to membrane proteins suggested abrupt changes in the lipid and protein mobilities at about 12°C. Spin probe spin-spin exchange broadening and fluorescent probe eximer formation indicated apparent temperature-induced alterations in probe lateral diffusion within the membrane at about 12 to 14°C. The results suggest the presence of temperature-induced quasicrystalline lipid clusters which may influence the activity of membrane-bound enzymes.  相似文献

A study was done to determine the performance of differential, selective media for supporting resuscitation and colony development by stressed cells of Enterobacter sakazakii. Cells of four strains of E. sakazakii isolated from powdered infant formula were exposed to five stress conditions: heat (55°C for 5 min), freezing (−20°C for 24 h, thawed, frozen again at −20°C for 2 h, thawed), acidic pH (3.54), alkaline pH (11.25), and desiccation in powdered infant formula (water activity, 0.25; 21°C for 31 days). Control and stressed cells were spiral plated on tryptic soy agar supplemented with 0.1% pyruvate (TSAP, a nonselective control medium); Leuschner, Baird, Donald, and Cox (LBDC) agar (a differential, nonselective medium); Oh and Kang agar (OK); fecal coliform agar (FCA); Druggan-Forsythe-Iversen (DFI) medium; violet red bile glucose (VRBG) agar; and Enterobacteriaceae enrichment (EE) agar. With the exception of desiccation-stressed cells, suspensions of stressed cells were also plated on these media and on R&F Enterobacter sakazakii chromogenic plating (RF) medium using the ecometric technique. The order of performance of media for recovering control and heat-, freeze-, acid-, and alkaline-stressed cells by spiral plating was TSAP > LBDC > FCA > OK, VRBG > DFI > EE; the general order for recovering desiccated cells was TSAP, LBDC, FCA, OK > DFI, VRBG, EE. Using the ecometric technique, the general order of growth indices of stressed cells was TSAP, LBDC > FCA > RF, VRBG, OK > DFI, EE. The results indicate that differential, selective media vary greatly in their abilities to support resuscitation and colony formation by stressed cells of E. sakazakii. The orders of performance of media for recovering stressed cells were similar using spiral plating and ecometric techniques, but results from spiral plating should be considered more conclusive.  相似文献

In an isometric tetanus in frog's sartorius muscle tension approaches the plateau exponentially with rate constant α. α a depends on sarcomere length, s, and temperature, T, according to the Arrhenius equation See PDF for Equation for temperatures between 1 and 20°C and for sarcomere lengths 2.0–2.8 µm. The energy of activation, E, does not vary significantly with s; E = 13.9 ± 2.4 kcal/mole. A(s) decreases monotonically with s; A(2.1 µm) is about three times greater than A(2.8 µm). Late in relaxation active tension approaches zero exponentially with rate constant r. r decreases exponentially with increasing duration of tetanus, D, from r0 in a twitch to r for large D. The rate constant for decrease of r with D increases with s and with T. r0 and r obey the Arrhenius equation and decrease with increasing s.  相似文献

This study is aimed at the development and application of a convenient and rapid optical assay to monitor the wet-heat resistance of bacterial endospores occurring in food samples. We tested the feasibility of measuring the release of the abundant spore component dipicolinic acid (DPA) as a probe for heat inactivation. Spores were isolated from the laboratory type strain Bacillus subtilis 168 and from two food product isolates, Bacillus subtilis A163 and Bacillus sporothermodurans IC4. Spores from the lab strain appeared much less heat resistant than those from the two food product isolates. The decimal reduction times (D values) for spores from strains 168, A163, and IC4 recovered on Trypticase soy agar were 1.4, 0.7, and 0.3 min at 105°C, 120°C, and 131°C, respectively. The estimated Z values were 6.3°C, 6.1°C, and 9.7°C, respectively. The extent of DPA release from the three spore crops was monitored as a function of incubation time and temperature. DPA concentrations were determined by measuring the emission at 545 nm of the fluorescent terbium-DPA complex in a microtiter plate fluorometer. We defined spore heat resistance as the critical DPA release temperature (Tc), the temperature at which half the DPA content has been released within a fixed incubation time. We found Tc values for spores from Bacillus strains 168, A163, and IC4 of 108°C, 121°C, and 131°C, respectively. On the basis of these observations, we developed a quantitative model that describes the time and temperature dependence of the experimentally determined extent of DPA release and spore inactivation. The model predicts a DPA release rate profile for each inactivated spore. In addition, it uncovers remarkable differences in the values for the temperature dependence parameters for the rate of spore inactivation, DPA release duration, and DPA release delay.  相似文献

The rate of photosynthesis under high light (1000 micromole quanta per square meter per second) and at 25°C was measured during development of the third leaf on wheat plants and compared with the activity of several photosynthetic enzymes and the level of metabolites. The rate of photosynthesis reached a maximum the 7th day after leaf emergence and declined thereafter. There was a high and significant correlation between the rate of photosynthesis per leaf area and the activities of the enzymes ribulose 5-phosphate kinase (r = 0.91), ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate (RuBP) carboxylase (r = 0.94), 3-phosphoglycerate (PGA) kinase (r = 0.82), and fructose 1,6-bisphosphatase (r = 0.80) per leaf area. There was not a significant correlation of photosynthesis rate with chlorophyll content. The rate of photosynthesis was strongly correlated with the level of PGA (r = 0.85) and inversely correlated with the level of triose phosphate (dihydroxyacetone phosphate and glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate) (r = 0.92). RuBP levels did not change much during leaf development; therefore photosynthesis rate was not correlated with the level of RuBP. The rate of photosynthesis was at a maximum when the ratio of PGA/triose phosphate was high, and when the ratio of RuBP/PGA was low. Although several enzymes change in parallel with leaf development, the metabolite changes suggest the greatest degree of control may be through RuBP carboxylase. Among the various bacterial pathogens associated with the aquaculture environment, Vibrio parahaemolyticus the important one from shrimp and human health aspects. Though having been around for several decades, phage-based control of bacterial pathogens (phage therapy) has recently re-emerged as an attractive alternative due to the availability of modern phage characterization tools and the global emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. In the present study, a total of 12 V. parahaemolyticus specific phages were isolated from 264 water samples collected from inland saline shrimp culture farms. During the host range analysis against standard/field isolates of V. parahaemolyticus and other bacterial species, lytic activity was observed against 2.3–45.5% of tested V. parahaemolyticus isolates. No lytic activity was observed against other bacterial species. For genomic characterization, high-quality phage nucleic acid with concentrations ranging from 7.66 to 220 ng/µl was isolated from 9 phages. After digestion treatments with DNase, RNase and S1 nuclease, the nature of phage nucleic acid was determined as ssDNA and dsDNA for 7 and 2 phages respectively. During transmission electron microscopy analysis of phage V5, it was found to have a filamentous shape making it a member of the family Inoviridae. During efficacy study of phage against V. parahaemolyticus in shrimp, 78.1% reduction in bacterial counts was observed within 1 h of phage application.
