The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of the multiflora rose var. “Jatar” (Rosa multiflora Thunb. ex Murray) and the Virginia fanpetals (Sida hermaphrodita Rusby) to phytoextract heavy metals from municipal sewage sludge. The 6-year field experiment involved four levels of fertilization with sewage sludge at doses of 0, 10, 20, 40, and 60 Mg DM (Dry Mass) sludge ha?1. The increasing doses of sewage sludge were found to significantly increase the yield of multiflora rose and Virginia fanpetals biomass. They also significantly increased the content of heavy metals in these plants. The highest uptake of heavy metals by the multiflora rose and Virginia fanpetals crops was recorded at the fertilization dose of 60 Mg DM ? ha?1. Our investigations show that the Virginia fanpetals was more efficient in the phytoextraction of Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, and Cd from the sewage sludge than the multiflora rose, due to the greater yields and higher heavy metal uptake by the former plant. In turn, the multiflora rose phytoextracted greater amounts of Pb from the sewage sludge. The analyses indicate that the Virginia fanpetals can be used for phytoremediation (phytoextraction) of heavy metals contained in sewage sludge.  相似文献

Adult Chironomidae were caught in emergence traps for three subsequent years (1988–1990) on agricultural soil. Larvae were extracted from soil samples taken since June 1989. The field was subdivided into 5 plots treated with different amounts of sewage sludge. On some plots the sludge was artificially enriched with heavy metalts. The phenology of Chrinonomidae in the three years and their distribution over the different plots are discussed. The results suggest that the abundance of Chironomidae is increased by sewage sludge and appears to be also increased by heavy metals.  相似文献

Abstract

Electrometric studies were carried out on the interaction of heavy metal ions such as manganese, chromium, nickel, copper, zinc, cadmium and lead with the extracted organic matter, humic and fulvic acid from the sludge in a sewage oxidation pond. The distribution of heavy metals was between 60 and 97%, which is associated with the solid waste (sludge) of the oxidation pond. The adsorption/removal efficiency of metal ions onto the sludge ash was more than 90% and 97%, respectively, in the pure system. To obtain the ash, the sludge was burnt at 500°C, treated with nitric acid (1+1) to leach out all the metals and then filtered; the residue left on the filter paper was the pure ash. Both this and that coated with organic matter were studied. The adsorption isotherm for metals, humic/fulvic acids and metal-humic/fulvic acid complexes in the metal-free sludge ash and in the organic matter in the pure system were studied using the Freundlich relationship. Good agreement was found suggesting that sediment and humic/fulvic acids have an important role in the mobility, dispersion and sedimentation of metal ions in an aquatic environment. More of these heavy metals are removed in the pure system than in the natural system. This may be due to the lesser availability of humic and fulvic acids in the lagoons during the short detention time of sewage in suspension in the oxidation pond, whereas the sludge which has settled to the bottom of the pond for several years contains rich decomposed organic matter in the form of humic and fulvic acids containing heavy metals. Such pure systems could be useful for the effective removal of heavy metals.  相似文献

采用透析、凝胶色谱 (SephadexG 75 )研究了污泥堆肥前后腐殖质分子大小的变化及重金属Cu和Zn在各级组分中的分配。透析结果表明 ,污泥经过堆腐以后 ,腐殖质中小分子物质 (<10 0 0Da)组分的含量下降 6 4 % ,而相对高分子组分 (>2 5 0 0 0Da)却增加了 6 8%。凝胶色谱进一步证实 ,污泥经过 4 9d堆腐后 ,腐殖质中大于 2 0 0 0KDa的大分子组分是堆肥起始时的2 3倍。而小分子组分明显减少 ,表现在小分子组分的凝胶洗脱体积明显减少。堆肥腐熟以后 ,腐殖质吸附的Cu、Zn元素含量增加 ,其中Cu主要被吸附在大分子物质上 ,而Zn主要与小分子物质结合  相似文献

利用微生物方法去除污泥中重金属(生物淋滤法)具有成本低,去除效率高,脱毒后污泥脱水性能好等优点,近年来在国际上备受关注,生物淋滤法采用的主要细菌为氧化亚铁硫杆菌(Thiobacillus ferrooxidans)和氧化硫硫杆菌(Thiobacillus thiooxidans),在其作用下,污泥中以难溶性金属硫化物被氧化成金属硫酸盐而溶出,通过固液分离即可达到去除重金属的目的,污泥的生物淋滤效果受温度、O2和CO2浓度,起始pH、污泥种类与浓度、底物种类与浓度、抑制因子、Fe^3 浓度等的影响,较为详细地介绍了生物淋滤法的作用机理及高效去除污泥中重金属的操作程序,并对其在环境污染治理方面的应用前景作了分析。  相似文献

The main aim of this work was to intensify conventional composting of a mixture of sewage sludge and solid food wastes by a one-stage thermophilic bioconversion of these wastes into an organic fertilizer. An intensive process was carried out in a closed system, with or without addition of a starter culture of Bacillus thermoamylovorans. The most effective thermophilic bioconversion of the mixture of food waste and sewage sludge, with addition of starter culture, was when the pH was buffered with calcium carbonate, or the pH drop in the material was prevented by preliminary removal of sulphides from sewage sludge by hydrogen peroxide.  相似文献

Dewatered sewage sludge is often stored still before further processing and final disposal. This study showed that anaerobic storage of dewatered sewage sludge could hydrolyze organic matter from the sludge matrix, and increase soluble organic acid content from 90 to 2400 mg/L and soluble organic carbon content from 220 to 1650 mg/L. Correspondingly, the contents of proteins, celluloses and hemicelluloses were reduced by 2-9%. Applying anaerobic storage markedly enhanced the efficiency of the subsequent bio-drying process on stored sludge. Correspondingly, biogas and odor gas were produced immediately after commencing the sludge storage. Anaerobic storage with odor control can be applied as a pretreatment process for dewatered sewage sludge in wastewater treatment plants.  相似文献

Phytoremediation is an innovative biological technique to reclaim land contaminated by heavy metals or organic pollutants. In the present work, we studied the ability of five woody species to extract heavy metal (copper, zinc or cadmium) from a polluted soil to their above-ground tissues. Metal content in leaves and twigs was determined. Salix and Betula transferred zinc and cadmium to leaves and twigs, but Alnus, Fraxinus and Sorbus excluded them from their above-ground tissues. None of the species considered transferred copper to the shoots.  相似文献

Abstract

A greenhouse experiment was conducted to evaluate phytotoxicity and distribution of Cu in a tropical soil amended with sewage sludge (Sw) and copper sulfate (CuSO4.5H2O). Samples of a clay soil from the State of Paraná, Brazil were collected at depth of 0–20; 20–40 and 40–60 cm, and brought to the laboratory to be properly accommodated in experimental units (PVC tubes). The Cu treatments were performed by the application of Sw (10 t ha-1) amended with Cu (SB-T), and by CuSO4. H2O (WB-T). Lettuce plants were cultivated in the amended soil in order to predict the toxicity of the Cu. The experiment was conducted for 70 days, and then the lettuce plants and soil samples were collected for analysis. A sequential method was used to separate soil Cu into following fractions: exchangeable, amorphous iron oxide bound, crystalline iron oxide bound, organic matter bound and residual bound. The experimental results showed that Fe, Zn, K, P, Cu and organic matter amounts of the soil increased with the treatment SB-T. The toxic phyto-available Cu content in the soil for the lettuce plants was 80.00 mg kg-1. A percolation study showed that the Cu contents were larger for the first 20 cm of depth, indicating that the metal was not transported down the soil profile. The Cu content of different fractions declined in an order residual > amorphous iron oxide > crystalline iron oxide > organic matter > exchangeable, regardless of treatment performed. Additionally, the Cu contents added from treatments were determined mainly in amorphous iron oxide fraction.  相似文献

Four fungal species including two dermatophytes and two saprophytes were isolated from sewage sludge samples at Basrah (Iraq) they were tested for their degradative ability towards three types of keratin substrates (human hair, chicken feathers and wool). The rate of keratin degradation was expressed as weight loss over three weeks of incubation using a liquid culture medium. Human hair had the highest degradation rate by colonization of Chrysosporium pannicola and Microsporum gypseum at a rate of 62% and 4% respectively. Chicken feathers were highly degraded by Aspergillus flavus (32%) while wool degradation was highest by C. pannicola (45.5%) and Trichophyton mentagrophytes var. erinacei (38%). There was a significant difference (p < 0.00l) in keratin substrate degradation rates by the examined fungi. Keratinase activity was highest for C. pannicola and M. gypseum in the culture medium baited with human hair. Aspergillus flavus revealed the highest activity of this enzyme in cultures amended with chicken feathers while T. mentagrophytes var. erinacei showed highest keratinase activity in cultures with wool substrate. The amount of protein released into the culture medium varied among the tested fungi. The medium's alkalinity increased over incubation time from 6.5 to 7.8. The goal of this research is to compare the metal binding characteristics of an anoxic selector activated sludge system and a conventional activated sludge system. Metal biosorption by biomass harvested from experimental systems was determined by a series of batch experiments. Heavy metals studied in this research were zinc, cadmium, and nickel. The sorption isotherm showed that the selector sludge had significantly higher sorption capacity than did the control sludge. Metal biosorption behavior closely followed a Freundlich isotherm model for equilibrium concentrations. ECP contents of biomass estimated by alkali extraction technique showed that ECP levels in the selector sludge significantly higher than that in the sludge harvested from the conventional system, indicating that the higher metal sorption capacity of selector sludge may be due to the selection of the ECP-producing bacteria (i.e., Zoogloca sp.) by the selector system.  相似文献

城市污泥的再利用是普遍认可的一种污泥处理途径 ,针对上海 3种典型城市污泥 ,即曲阳生活污泥、金山石化污泥和桃浦化工污泥的特性进行了分析。结果表明 ,3种污泥中Zn和Cd的浓度都超过了相关标准 ,重金属的含量和污泥的类型有关 ,形态分布显著不同 ;曲阳生活污泥中不同气候条件下的大肠菌值≥ 12 0 0MPNs·g-1DM ,而且还有许多其它传染性病原体 ;关于优先控制有机污染物 ,金山石化污泥检出 6种 ,桃浦化工污泥检出 8种 ,而曲阳生活污泥中没有检出。本文还讨论了我国和欧美关于污泥农用的相关控制标准 ,并在此基础上进一步阐述了我国城市污泥再利用的前景和待解决的关键问题  相似文献

This study examines the co-digestion of intermediate landfill leachate and sewage sludge from a municipal wastewater treatment plant. Application of leachate as a co-fermentation component increased the concentrations of soluble organic compounds (expressed as total organic carbon), ammonium nitrogen, and alkalinity in the digester influents.The biogas yield obtained from the co-fermentation of a 20:1 sewage sludge: intermediate leachate mixture was 1.30 m3 per kg of removed volatile solids (VS), while that from a 10:1 mixture was 1.24 m3 per kg of removed VS. These values exceeded the biogas yield for the sludge alone by 13% and 8%, respectively. The leachate addition influenced the proportion of methane to a minor extent. Increased methane yields of 16.9% and 6.2% per kg of removed VS were found for the two sewage sluge:intermediate leachate mixtures, respectively.  相似文献

AIMS: To predict the number of humans in the UK infected through consumption of root crops grown on agricultural land to which treated sewage sludge has been applied in accordance with the current regulations and guidance (Safe Sludge Matrix). METHODS AND RESULTS: Quantitative risk assessments based on the source, pathway, receptor approach are developed for seven pathogens, namely salmonellas, Listeria monocytogenes, campylobacters, Escherichia coli O157, Cryptosporidium parvum, Giardia, and enteroviruses. Using laboratory data for pathogen destruction by mesophilic anaerobic digestion, and not extrapolating experimental data for pathogen decay in soil to the full 30-month harvest interval specified by the Matrix, predicts 50 Giardia infections per year, but less than one infection per year for the other six pathogens. Assuming linear decay in the soil, a 12-month harvest interval eliminates the risks from all seven pathogens; the highest predicted being one infection of C. parvum in the UK every 45 years. Computer simulations show that a protective effect from binding of pathogens to particulate matter could potentially exaggerate the observed rate of decay in experimental systems. CONCLUSIONS: The results confirm, assuming pathogens behave according to our current understanding, that the risks to humans from consumption of vegetable crops are remote. Furthermore the harvest intervals stipulated by the Safe Sludge Matrix compensate for potential lapses in the operational efficiency of sludge treatment. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: The models demonstrate the huge potential impact of decay in the soil over the 12/30-month intervals specified by the Matrix, although lack of knowledge on the exact nature of soil decay processes is a source of uncertainty. The models enable the sensitivity of the predicted risks to changes in the operational efficiency of sewage sludge treatment to be assessed.  相似文献

Bacterial isolates from sludge samples collected at a local municipal sewage treatment plant were screened for bacteria producing polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA). Initially Sudan black B staining was performed to detect lipid cellular inclusions. Lipid-positive isolates were then grown in a nitrogen limitation E2 medium containing 2% (w/v) glucose to promote accumulation of PHA before the subsequent staining with Nile blue A. The positive isolates were quantified initially with a u.v. spectrophotometer, for a very large number of isolates (105) and among them high PHA-producing isolates (15) were selected and were confirmed by gas chromatographic analysis. The GC analysis showed the polymers produced by 13 of the selected isolates to be polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB), and the remaining two isolates produced polyhydroxybutyrate-co-hydroxyvalerate (PHB-co-HV) copolymer. The proportion of the PHA-positive bacterial isolates showed variability in the number of PHA accumulators during various months. The correlation of PHB production with the cell dry weight (CDW) was found to be statistically significant. The metabolism of PHB in these selected 15 isolates was studied using the Nile blue A staining, which showed an initial increase in the fluorescence followed by a decline, on further incubation. All the selected 15 isolates were classified to genus level by studying their morphological and biochemical characteristics. There were seven Bacillus species, three Pseudomonas species, two Alcaligenes species, two Aeromonas species, and one Chromobacterium species.  相似文献

Heavy metal could lead to serious environmental risk to the ecosystem, destroy human health via the food chain. The heavy metal removal from sludge is an emergent issue. In this work, rhamnolipid, an environment-friendly material, was used to enhance heavy metal extraction from the sludge. The results showed that Cu, Zn, Cr, Pb, Ni, and Mn maximum extraction efficiencies were 35.10 ± 2.31%, 45.33 ± 3.24%, 27.58 ± 3.35%, 24.12 ± 3.51%, 43.31 ± 2.53% and 22.10 ± 2.11%, respectively; most of exchangeable and reducible fractions, and partly oxidizable and residual fractions have been extracted by the rhamnolipid solution. After treatment, IR values of heavy metals increased in the treated sludge, the IR values for Cu, Zn, Cr, Pb, Ni, and Mn were 0.24 ± 0.01, 0.25 ± 0.03, 0.21 ± 0.02, 0.32 ± 0.03, 0.22 ± 0.021 and 0.41 ± 0.03, respectively. MF values indicated that heavy metal mobility order was Zn>Ni>Cu>Mn>Cr>Pb in the treated sludge. According to the two risk assessment methods (risk assessment code, RAC and potential ecological risk index, PERI), the risk assessment of heavy metal was investigated in the after treatment sludge, which indicated that rhamnolipid could extract the mobility of heavy metal and lead to no or low risk to the ecosystem. Therefore, rhamnolipid was utilized to enhance heavy metal extraction from dewatered sludge in this study, which is a promising technique for heavy metal extraction from the dewatered sludge.  相似文献
