A comparison has been made of the in-use bacterial load of two bar soaps with and without antibacterials and two liquid soaps in five different locations over a 1-week period. Of the 25 samples taken from each soap, 92 to 96% of samples from bar soaps were culture positive as compared to 8% of those from liquid soaps. Bacterial populations ranged from 0 to 3.8 log CFU per sample for bar soaps and from 0 to 2.0 log CFU per sample for liquid soaps. The mean bacterial populations per sample were 1.96 and 2.47 log CFU for the two bar soaps, and 0.08 and 0.12 log CFU for the two liquid soaps. The difference in bacterial population between bar soaps and liquid soaps was statistically significant (P = 0.005). Staphylococcus aureus was isolated on three occasions from bar soaps but not from liquid soaps. S. aureus was isolated twice from the exterior of the plastic dispensers of liquid soap but not from the soap itself. Gram-negative bacteria were cultured only from soaps containing antibacterials. Bacterial populations on bar soaps were not high compared with bacterial populations on hands, and the flora was continually changing without evidence of a carrier state.  相似文献

The applicability of biotechnological methods to metal recovery from non-sulfide industrial waste products (slag, galvanic sludge, filter-press residue, filter dust, and fly ash) was investigated. From some products, copper, chromium, zinc or vanadium were completely extracted by sulfuric acid produced by Thiobacillus thiooxidans. The efficiency of bacterial metal solubilization varied depending on the type of waste material and on the pulp density. Stepwise increase of pulp density promoted bacterial growth and activity, resulting in metal concentrations of 6.6 g Cu/l, 6.3 g V/l, 24.4 g Zn/l or 21 g Cr/l in the leaching medium. In some cases bacterial leaching was as effective as chemical leaching with sulfuric acid. The efficiency of both processes is considered. In principal, bacterial metal recovery from industrial waste products seems to be feasible and may contribute to an increase in future supplies of raw materials, as well as to detoxification of industrial waste products resulting in reduced environmental pollution problems.  相似文献

海洋动物是具有生物活性海洋天然产物的重要来源。海鞘中含有丰富的微生物类群,如细菌、放线菌、真菌和蓝细菌。越来越多的直接或间接证据表明,一些从海鞘中分离的天然产物并不是海鞘本身产生的,而是由其共生微生物产生的。本文对近些年来的海鞘天然产物的微生物来源的研究方法进行综述,包括可培养细菌的分离、不可培养细菌的粗提物检测、宏基因组学、全基因组测序等直接方法,以及化合物结构比对的间接方法。通过对海鞘-微生物共生体中天然产物生物合成来源的研究,不仅可以从根本上解决动物药源的问题,而且可为研究海鞘与微生物共生关系提供有力证据。  相似文献

Bacteriological surveillance is little applied in management of equine frozen semen but it is quite important to verify the microbial contamination in order to find out the chance of transmission of pathology to the mare in AI. Authors describe a qualitative and quantitative analysis for bacterial contamination on long time (3–17 years) equine frozen semen stored in liquid nitrogen. The semen checked, produced in Italy and in another Europe country, was cryopreserved in liquid nitrogen inside sealed plastic straws. One hundred and ten straws were checked out for pathogenic and no pathogenic bacteria, aerobes and anaerobes and fungi (moulds and yeasts). The Total Microbial Charge was quite variable with an average of about 1.4 × 105 CFU/ml. Mostly the microbial agents identified were fungi (17.5%), Enterobacter-coccus spp. (15%), Pseudomonas spp. (6.25%), Stenothophomonas maltophila (6.25%) and anaerobic bacteria like Propionibacterium granulosum (7.5%) and Clostridium spp. (3.75%). 3.75% were unidentified Gram-negative rod and cocci. Streptococcus spp., Staph. aureus, E. coli, Th. equigenitalis and Mycoplasma spp. were not detected. The most represented species were Enterobacter-coccus spp. (1.1 × 105 CFU/ml), St. maltophila (8 × 104 CFU/ml) and Pr. granulosum (7 × 104 CFU/ml) while yeast and even more moulds were little abundant (4.7 × 104 and 3.4 × 104 CFU/ml respectively). The knowledge of equine frozen semen microbial quality is essential to check out transmission of venereal disease and improve the quality of cryopreserved germplasm.  相似文献

Bipolaris sorokiniana causes spot blotch in wheat and barley. The pathogen produces toxin (BS-toxin), which is a sesquiterpenoid belonging to eremophilane family. Isolates of Trichoderma spp., Chaetomium globosum and Pseudomonas fluorescens were tested for detoxification of BS-toxin amended in semi-synthetic medium at different concentrations. All the antagonists showed mycelial growth in toxin amended medium but their growth was less in comparison to growth in normal medium. The growth of biocontrol agents decreased with increasing concentration of toxin. Two isolates of C. globosum (Cg1 and Cg2), T.viride (TV5-2) and Pseudomonas fluorescens produced 4.9, 2.9, 3.6 g mycelium and 5.5 × 105 cfu /ml, respectively exhibiting 50% or less reduction in growth in BS-toxin amended medium at 1,000 ppm concentration. The biocontrol agents also reduced the severity of toxin-induced symptoms and electrolyte leakage from the wheat leaf tissues. Among the microbes tested, maximum reduction in electrolyte leakage was observed in C. globosum (Cg2) treated toxin samples. The spectral analysis also showed a remarkable decrease in optical density of Cg2 treated toxin at 294 nm. High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) analysis showed almost complete degradation of BS-toxin in C. globosum (Cg2) treated samples.  相似文献

基于中国的水生生物区系特征,筛选出了33种水生生物的37个急性毒性数据和1个慢性毒性数据,涵盖了浮游植物类、鱼类、昆虫类、软体类和甲壳类。应用物种敏感度分布曲线法推导了适合中国淡水水体的苯的淡水水质基准,并对各类别生物的敏感性进行了分析。结果表明,中国淡水中苯的基准最大浓度为3.09mg.L-1,基准连续浓度为0.618mg.L-1,水中五大类生物对苯的敏感性顺序为:鱼类>甲壳类>昆虫类>软体类>浮游植物类。将中国各大水体中的苯浓度与推导出的基准值进行比较,结果发现,苯浓度尚未对中国水生态系统构成威胁,对水生生物的潜在风险不大。  相似文献

Microbes from two of the three domains of life, the Prokarya, and Eukarya, continue to serve as rich sources of structurally complex chemical scaffolds that have proven to be essential for the development of anticancer therapeutics. This review describes only a handful of exemplary natural products and their derivatives as well as those that have served as elegant blueprints for the development of novel synthetic structures that are either currently in use or in clinical or preclinical trials together with some of their earlier analogs in some cases whose failure to proceed aided in the derivation of later compounds. In every case, a microbe has been either identified as the producer of secondary metabolites or speculated to be involved in the production via symbiotic associations. Finally, rapidly evolving next-generation sequencing technologies have led to the increasing availability of microbial genomes. Relevant examples of genome mining and genetic manipulation are discussed, demonstrating that we have only barely scratched the surface with regards to harnessing the potential of microbes as sources of new pharmaceutical leads/agents or biological probes.  相似文献

Competition amongst microbes for space and nutrients in the marine environment is a powerful selective force which has led to the evolution of a variety of effective strategies for colonising and growing on surfaces. We are particularly interested in the chemical ecology of marine epibiotic bacteria which live on the surfaces of marine algae or invertebrates. Over 400 strains of surface-associated bacteria from various species of seaweed and invertebrate from Scottish coastal waters were isolated and 35% of them shown to produce antimicrobial compounds. This is a much higher proportion than free living marine isolates or soil bacteria. In addition, many strains which did not normally produce antibiotics could be induced to do so by exposing them to small amounts of live cells, supernatants from other bacterial cultures or other chemicals. Thus the number of strains able to produce antibiotics appears to be much higher than previously thought. Induction of antibiotic production was elicited by other marine epibionts and also by terrestrial human pathogens such as Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. An understanding of this type of chemical induction and the factors regulating non-constitutive secretion of antimicrobial compounds will allow more effective strategies for searching for new chemotherapeutic antibiotics to be designed.  相似文献

A mutant of the potent sterol degrader Mycobacteriun fortuitum (ATCC6842) has been isolated which is defective in its ability to degrade both the steroid nucleus and sterol side-chains that are branched at the 24-position. Bioconversions of phytosterol mixtures by this mutant resulted in the accumulation of the novel 24-oxo intermediates 9-hydroxy-27-nor-4-cholestene-3,24-dione (II) and 9-hydroxy-26,27-dinor-4-cholestene-3,24-dione (III). Under the same conditions, cholesterol is degraded mainly to 9-hydroxy-4-androstene-3,17-dione (I) by this organism.  相似文献

Microbial products trigger amino acid exudation from plant roots   总被引:16,自引:0,他引:16  
Plants naturally cycle amino acids across root cell plasma membranes, and any net efflux is termed exudation. The dominant ecological view is that microorganisms and roots passively compete for amino acids in the soil solution, yet the innate capacity of roots to recover amino acids present in ecologically relevant concentrations is unknown. We find that, in the absence of culturable microorganisms, the influx rates of 16 amino acids (each supplied at 2.5 microm) exceed efflux rates by 5% to 545% in roots of alfalfa (Medicago sativa), Medicago truncatula, maize (Zea mays), and wheat (Triticum aestivum). Several microbial products, which are produced by common soil microorganisms such as Pseudomonas bacteria and Fusarium fungi, significantly enhanced the net efflux (i.e. exudation) of amino acids from roots of these four plant species. In alfalfa, treating roots with 200 microm phenazine, 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol, or zearalenone increased total net efflux of 16 amino acids 200% to 2,600% in 3 h. Data from (15)N tests suggest that 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol blocks amino acid uptake, whereas zearalenone enhances efflux. Thus, amino acid exudation under normal conditions is a phenomenon that probably reflects both active manipulation and passive uptake by microorganisms, as well as diffusion and adsorption to soil, all of which help overcome the innate capacity of plant roots to reabsorb amino acids. The importance of identifying potential enhancers of root exudation lies in understanding that such compounds may represent regulatory linkages between the larger soil food web and the internal carbon metabolism of the plant.  相似文献
